Former SoBo champ Drew Herring will bid for USARacing Series crown Saturday at SoBo

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The series once named the Hooters Pro Cup Series will invade South Boston Speedway this weekend for the running of the Strutmasters.com 250, which will decide the USARacing Pro Cup Series Championship.

Also scheduled for action on Saturday, Oct. 31, will be the area’s best Limited Sportsman Division competitors in a 100-lap race. The first of the two races Saturday will get the green flag at 2 p.m.

Clay Rogers heads into the championship event for the USARacing Pro Cup Series with a 43-point advantage over J.P. Morgan. Drew Herring, the 2006 South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division champion, sits third in the point standings, 85 points out of the lead and eight ahead of fourth-place Brandon Ward and 10 points ahead of fifth-place Bobby Gill.

The other drivers in the top 10 include Jeff Agnew, John Gibson, Matt Lofton Lucas Ransone and Brett Butler.

There will be plenty of racing action to please the fans, but there will also be several other events taking place on Saturday, which is also Halloween. A Halloween Costume Contest, which will pay $500 to the winner, will be held as part of the Saturday festivities and fans will be able to head trackside prior to the racing action for a Fan Appreciation Session. The Halloween Costume Contest will begin at 1:15 p.m. and will be preceded by the Fan Appreciation Session, which will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Grandstand gates will open Saturday at 11 a.m. and hayrides for all ages will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Qualifying for the Limited Sportsman 100-lap race will be held on Saturday at noon, shortly after a practice session that will run from 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.

Practice and qualifying for the USARacing Pro Cup Series will be held on Friday, Oct. 30. Practice for the series will be held from noon until 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by qualifying time trials at 4:30 p.m.

Also scheduled on Friday will be the 2009 USARacing Pro Cup Series Pit Crew Competition, which will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstands will be open Friday to the public free of charge.

Advance tickets are on sale for the two feature races on Saturday, Oct. 31, and are priced at $15 each. The ticket price will increase to $20 on race day. Tickets can be ordered via telephone by contacting the track office at (434) 572-4947 or they can be purchased at the speedway office.
