T3R Racing

ROCKINGHAM, North Carolina (November 8, 2011) – - It wasn’t a matter of if, but when. Finally, all the ingredients came together for Stuart, Florida native Bryan Silas as he stormed to his first career CARS Pro Cup Series (formally known as the USARacing Pro Cup Series) victory Saturday afternoon at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway.

In racing, it’s often said that winning isn’t easy. For Silas and his T3R team, that couldn’t have been farther from the truth. The weekend started off on a soggy note as persistent rain showers eventually forced the cancellation of all track activity on Friday.

With Friday washed out, Saturday would be a full deck. From the moment that the ARCA Racing Series veteran hit the pavement – it was evident that he was to be considered a factor.

In his sixth start of the season and fifth CARS start at the historic one-mile oval, Silas, in his No. 11 Richmond County Hospice / Rockingham Speedway Ford Fusion, qualified on the outside pole, a career-best for the rising star, driving the same car he made his debut in for this series five years ago.

When the green flag was thrown the battle was on. Driver strategy and tire conversation would ultimately play out to be a deciding factor in the overall outcome of the final race of the season. While Silas remained hovering solidly inside the top-five, the team led by crew chief Cal Boprey elected to make a gutsy call approaching lap 80.

While the leaders took tires and fuel, Boprey elected to keep his driver on the same tires he started the event on, sending Silas’s blue oval back out onto the race course with a fuel-only pit stop.

Hoping for a caution shortly after racing resumed, the team knew that having fresh rubber would be pivotal towards a strong finish. However, the plan nearly backfired on them as the racing turned into a long green flag run which allowed leader Jeff Agnew to strike within 1,000 feet of putting the Floridian a lap down before the yellow flag waived – yielding an immediate sense of relief from both the driver and team.

There wasn’t any time to rejoice though – as the T3R crew had to quickly prepare for their pilot to bring his Ford Fusion down pit road for some much needed tires and a full tank of gas to enable Silas to throttle hard to the end.

Restarting in 10th, Silas’s lap times were nearly two seconds quicker than the leaders and as the race came to a close, the eyes of the spotters and fans were glued on the No. 11 Richmond County Hospice / Rockingham Speedway Ford Fusion as he sliced and diced his way through the pack before finding himself on the back bumper of leader Agnew.

Without any resistance from the eventual champion, Silas was able to burst into the top-spot for the final 15 laps where he captured his first ever checkered flag in a National Touring Series.

<img src="http://www.catchfence.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/SilasVL.jpg" alt="Bryan Silas, driver of the No. 11 Richmond County Hospice / Rockingham Speedway Ford Fusion in CARS Pro Cup Series competition celebrates in victory lane at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway on Saturday, November 5.

“I don’t know what to say,” said Silas, whose entire family including his mom and dad, wife Misty and son Landon were in attendance to witness the spectacle. “I was a little worried there when we were on the older tires that we weren’t going to get the caution we needed. It was really close, I thought we were done. Then, it came and we were back in the race. Once again tires proved to be critical to success at “The Rock.”

He added, “This win is extra special to me, since my mentor Andy (Hillenburg), who is the president and promoter of Rockingham Speedway, was there. We couldn’t believe we were standing in victory lane. It felt great! I want to thank my team, my family and all those who have supported me and my racing career throughout the years. This win is for them.”

Silas’s first career triumph occurred in his 26th career CARS Pro Cup Series start. In six races this season, he recorded one win, three top-fives and five top-10 finishes.

While a 2012 racing schedule hasn’t been finalized for Bryan Silas, he made it crystal clear exiting “The Rock” that he will be back for more CARS Pro Cup Series competition next year.

“This series is such a blast to compete in,” Silas sounded. “It really is a stepping stone for someone moving up from a lower division of racing. The competition often resembles that of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) which proves to be a great stomping ground for any driver wishing to make that climb up to the big leagues. Whatever develops for next year, we’re going to make sure we come back and race in CARS, because the series means that much to me.”

The T3R team will now shift their concentration back to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) where Silas will return to the No. 09 Ford F-150 for the running of the Ford 200, the 25th and final race of their season at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway on Friday, November 18. Silas has made five starts already this year, most recently at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in October.

Speedway

Rockingham, N.C. (November 5, 2011) – Corey Lajoie surged past Paddy Rodenbeck on lap 71 and withstood a furious charge during a green-white-checkered finish to take the UARA-Stars portion of the American 200, while Bryan Silas rallied late in the running of the CARS Pro Cup race to take the victory at Rockingham Speedway.

This marks the second time that Lajoie has won in UARA action at Rockingham and the second time that he passed Rodenbeck late in the running to seal the victory.

“That’s twice he’s beat us late here,” said Rodenbeck, who led 67 of the 78 laps on the day. “This place owes us one.”

While Rodenbeck had a dominant car, Lajoie picked his spot to get around the No. 82.

“Rodenbeck was a lot better than I was in three and four but I was really good in one and two,” said Lajoie. “He was really going and I thought it was going to go green the rest of the way, so I decided it was time to go and pressed the throttle down a little harder. I could tell he was getting loose. I ended up catching him when he missed a corner and I drove right around him. After the last caution, he caught up to me in three and four, we both drove up the hill, but I was able to hold him off and get the win.

“I just drove it in there until I saw Elvis.”

Rounding out the top-five behind Lajoie and Rodenbeck were Kyle Grissom, George Miedecke (2011 UARA Rookie of the Year) and Ryan Heavner.

Despite a blown engine on the race’s seventh lap and a 16th-place finish, Brennan Poole, who won the Carolina 200 in May, was crowned the 2011 series champion.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t race 75 laps today; this place is so much fun to run.” said Poole. “Our engine had been down on power all weekend. Having that happen, I’m glad we locked the championship up last week at Concord.”

Silas, who started second in the race, used a bold pit call to claim victory in the Pro Cup 150-lapper, the first of his career.

“On lap 80, everyone else put on sticker tires,” Silas said. “We put on scuffs and had a fresh set for the last run.”

Silas used the fresh tires to run down and overtake the leaders over the last 25 laps.

“I have turned a lot of laps at this track and what I have learned is that you have to race the race track and not the other competitors here,” said Silas, who also has starts in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards and the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals at Rockingham Speedway. “This Pro Cup Series is a tough series with a bunch of guys who can win week in and week out and it means a lot to get that win.”

Jeff Agnew, who claimed the CARS Pro Cup Series championship, finished second. Brad Rogers, who started the race second in points, nine points in arrears of Agnew, finished 15th after a lap 85 crash. After starting on the pole, Rogers had dominated the first half of the race but ended up mid-pack after pick stops. He was moving back to the front before tangling with the No. 14 car of Blake Jones.

“We came down here to run and try to win the race,” Agnew said. “Him (Rogers) falling out, I really hate that. I wish we could have had a little better car at the beginning to run with him.

“We just had different strategies, Rogers wanted to get out there and lead all the laps. We played it to be there at the end. I really truly hate that this happened to him, he deserved this championship as much as we did, but I’m tickled to death we got it.”

The championship is the second of Agnew’s career. He won the 1998 the Hooters Pro Cup championship with the same team.

Rounding out the top-five in the Pro Cup portion of the American 200 were Caleb Holman, Tyler Young and Ryan Heavner.

“Great race day at the Rock,” said Speedway President Andy Hillenburg. “From all the staff here at the track, I want to send a big thank you to all the race fans who came out today to support us and we’ll see you back in a few weeks.”

Next up at Rockingham Speedway is the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals (FKSSN) Polar Bear 150 on Nov. 26, 2011.

NASCAR returns to Rockingham on April 15, 2012 for the Camping World Truck Series Good Sam Club Roadside Assistance 200.

Agnew, of Floyd, Va., qualified fifth but worked his way through the pack to pass pole sitter Caleb Holman for the lead on lap 75, shortly before a one-hour rain delay.

Agnew was fifth after pitting for fuel on lap 83 but quickly made his way through the field again to shoot past Charlotte, N.C., driver J.P. Morgan, and Agnew stayed ahead the rest of the way in a race that was delayed five times by cautions.

Morgan finished second, with Brad Rogers of Mooresville, N.C., Tyler Young of Midland, TX, Matt Lofton of Roxboro, N.C., and Holman of Abingdon, Va., rounding out the top five finishers.

Agnew’s margin of victory was 1.522 seconds in a race that lasted two hours and 26 minutes and featured five lead changes among four drivers, including Agnew, Morgan, Young and Holman, who qualified on the pole with a time of 15.842 sec.

USA RACING PRO CUP SERIES NOTES AND QUOTES

FOR THE STRUTMASTERS.COM 300 QUALIFYING

AT SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2010.

Caleb Holman won Saturday’s Strutmasters.com 300, crossing the finish line 2.634 second ahead of second-place Stephen Nasse.

NOTES:

- Holman scored his FOURTH win of the 2010 season and his FIFTH in 58 USA Racing Pro Cup Series starts. He claimed his seventh top-five and ninth top-10 in 2010.

- Unofficially Holman placed second in the series championship standings, 49 points behind champion Clay Rogers.

- Holman led three times for a race-high 235 laps in today’s 300-lap event. He led 663 laps in 14 races this season and has led 1,402 in his career.

- Holman won the pole and collected a $2,000 bonus as part of the WIX Filters Challenge.

- A native of Abingdon, Va., Holman won for the first time in three starts at South Boston Speedway and scored his first top five.

- Stephen Nasse scored his best finish in 12 career USA Racing Pro Cup Series starts and grabbed his third top-five of the season.

STEPHEN NASSE, No. 51 ALL AMERICAN CONCRETE FORD:

“The 75 has just a great racecar and I just didn’t have enough to keep up with him. We’ve had a lot of bad luck this season and this is a good turnaround for us. Second-place isn’t bad and I’ll take that any day. It’s better than being wrecked and in the fence like we were last time. It feels great to have this. This is my best finish so far. I’m definitely happy with this finish.”

CALEB HOLMAN, No. 75 FOOD COUNTRY USA / AARINGTON ENGINES DODGE:

“It was really good for maybe 50 laps. Over 50 laps that one time seemed to hurt us and we could really make it fire on a restart. We could make it go and we got a really good restart that last time there and a lapped car got between ‘em. I didn’t want to get too good of a restart because if I do second-place gets by the lapped car, too. We weren’t really wanting to do that. That worked out really, really good.”

HOW BIG IS THIS WIN FOR YOU?

“It’s always a big deal to win the last race of the year because those bragging rights last all winter. You can go all winter and just keep thinking about that win. Those long, cold days in the shop you can think about that last sunny day you had at the racetrack.”

YOU BEAT CLAY ROGERS TODAY. HOW IMPORTANT IS THAT GOING INTO 2011?

“It solidified that we were at least number two. I think us and [Jeff] Agnew and him were the top cars. We beat him straight-up at New Smyrna and he’s just whipped us ever since. And this is his [Rogers 1st place] kind of racetrack. New Smyrna was definitely our forte so to come here and do it is definitely a big deal for our race team.”

COMMENT ON THE LATE PIT STOP THAT KEPT YOU OUT FRONT.

“The boys did a heck of a job. They’ve been doing that all year. They’re out practicing a couple times a week.”

ON HIS PIT SELECTION.

“We got the pole and got the first pit stall and we just have to pull out to get gone and what was really funny about that was they were going ‘Go, go and go hard’ and I’m like this is all I’ve got. I’m second gear wide open and nothing happening. It just seemed like I was sitting still. Before the race I dumped the water out of my coolshirt cooler across pit road. The crew chief fussed at me and I was like it’s not a big deal. He said ‘You know what you’re slipping in? The water you dumped out [smiles]. But it worked out okay. Pit stop selection was big, pit stops were big. My guys have done that all year.”

COMMENT ON THE THREE-WIDE PASS BY CLAY ROGERS AROUND YOU AND LAPPED CAR.

“It’s a battle of wills, too. It’s easy t o get discouraged when something like that happens. In a 300-lap race you think you can coast around a little while and bide your time. You used to be able to do that. These tires are so good as far as holding up, they don’t wear out. I was going as hard as I could go for 300 laps, just as hard as I could go. If you could save your tires and do that kind of thing it’d be a little different story. But it’s tough when that happens and you sitting here thinking ‘Man we’ve got the best car and this guy just passed us’ but we got back again on pit road. The gas stop got us back out again. It goes back to the pit crew again.&nbs p; They’re awesome. I kind of felt like our car dropped off after about 50 laps. If we had a long run continuously it would hurt us but then we’d slow down, the tires would cool off and we’d fire back. It would go again. If we just had to go straight up, no cautions, about 50 laps we fell off and that’s why Clay was able to catch us there to get by us in lapped traffic. If I’d have been by myself it wouldn’t be no issue.

I didn’t want to see that last caution ‘cause we had a nice lead and we were pretty much holding our own but then I knew we could go. These cars do weird things on a restart. When you ride around under caution a few laps, mayb e leave the brake fans on, just the littlest thing affects ‘em. You go over in that corner and it don’t do the same thing that’s been expecting all and ours did that. Ours did the right stuff on the restarts. As quick as they threw the green we could go and that restart worked out real well getting the lapped car between us.”

YOU DID ALL YOU COULD TODAY TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

“We lost the points at Bristol, the second race of the championship series. We should have won that race, had the same deal we did here with leading the most laps. We blew a tire with like 40 laps to go. The way I figured it up is Clay had to beat us by 64 points to erase what happened to us at Bristol. That’s not saying they don’t deserve it if they didn’t but in my mind 64 points is what we lost at Bristol. He [Rogers] didn’t have any bad luck and that’s kudos to them ‘cause they did all the things right. The tire thing was just a luck issue. It wasn’t anything that we could’ve done or not done. It doesn’t bother me so bad knowing we did all we could do.”

Frank

SOUTH BOSTON, Virginia (November 3, 2010) – - USARacing Pro Cup Series driver A.J. Frank enters Saturday’s season finale at South Boston (Va.) Speedway looking to end a strong 2010 season with a magical touch by notching his first career victory in the USARacing Pro Cup Series Championship 300 presented by Strutmasters.com.

Frank, driver of the No. 56 Speedco / Lucas Oil / 3 Wide Apparel / Coastal Medical Chevrolet Impala enters SoBo (South Boston) on the heels of a third place performance in the most recent event at Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway where an ailing motor could not seize a strong night for the Mac Hill Motorsports team.

With luck back on their side following an off-canter finish at the Historic North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway last month, Frank sets his sight on Saturday’s contest hoping to glue his Chevrolet bowtie to the top-spot and award his mainly
all-volunteer crew with a well-deserved victory lane soaking at one of the most legendary tracks left on the short track stomping grounds.

“It would really mean the world to me to end the season with a win at South Boston,” said A.J. Frank, a native of Blufton, South Carolina. “I cannot continue to thank the Mac Hill Motorsports crew for their efforts not only this week but all year long. We’ve had some bumps but I believe that has made our team stronger and we’ve shown that on the race track. We’ve been so close to victory lane a couple times this year. This is the weekend to seal the deal and deliver.”

Not only is Frank leaning on South Boston (Va.) Speedway to guide him to victory lane but also the opportunity to surge in the USAR standings. Currently, Frank sits fifth in the standings, just 10 markers behind fourth place competitor J.P. Morgan. USAR veteran Jeff Agnew is just 49 points ahead of Frank in third. Mathematically, Frank still has a shot at the USAR championship, currently retained by Clay Rogers, but Frank and his Mac Hill team are reaching for that third spot. Car owner John “Jack” McNelly currently sits third in the USAR car owner standings, just 93 credits behind James Mosley Jr., owner of the No. 16 entry for Rogers.

“It’s my goal to finish inside the top-five and keep Jack as high up in the owner standings as I possibly can,” Frank sounded. “We’ve really had a good year overall and a solid end to a season can help set the foundation for next season. I think we’ll have a good weekend.”

A factor towards that good weekend comes with the massive amount of experience that Frank hoists at South Boston (Va.) Speedway. Frank will make his 10th career SOBO start this weekend while aiming for his third top-five and sixth top-10 finish overall.

“I’ve always liked South Boston,” added Frank. “It’s a driver’s race track. It’s a tough little track. You have to be able to keep the fenders on the car and emotions in-check. You also have to count on your team for flawless stops on pit road as track position can be difficult there. It should be a great race for the fans.”

Entering South Boston, Frank has 77 career USAR starts. During his tenure, he has captured 25 top-fives and 44 top-10 finishes, including eight top-fives in the 10 USAR races run this season.

The USARacing Pro Cup Series Championship 300 presented by Strutmasters.com. 300 is the 11th and final race on the 2010 USARacing Pro Cup Series schedule. Practice is set for race day, Saturday, November 6th set to begin at 8:15 a.m. and conclude at 9:00 a.m. A final 45 minute practice session has been etched in from 9:50 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. Qualifying is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. with an on-track autograph session tentatively planned to begin at 12:40 p.m. The green flag will waive shortly after 2:00 p.m. Eastern.
Rogers enters the November 6 USARacing Pro Cup Series season finale at South Boston (Va.) Speedway with a 79-point lead over Caleb Holman. Rogers enters the final race of the season fresh off a victory October 9 in the Keith Whitaker Chevrolet 250 at Greenville-Pickens (S.C) Speedway, his first in the Championship Series.

Rogers returns to a track where a scored a dominating victory June 12 in the Strutmasters.com 250 at the .400-mile Virginia speedway. Rogers has a firm grasp his second consecutive series title and fourth overall, tying him Bobby Gill for most in series history. The Mooresville, N.C. resident led 118 of the 250 laps earlier this season at South Boston and took the checkered flag 2.708 seconds ahead of second-place Matt Lofton.

Holman scored a fifth-place finish at Greenville-Pickens, his sixth top-five in 2010 and third of the 2010 Championship series. He scored a 15th-place finish earlier this season at South Boston after parking his car early due to mechanical issues.

Jeff Agnew is currently third in points. Agnew, a Floyd, Va. native, got his first win in two years at Concord (N.C.) Speedway and went on to win the Brushy Mountain 250 from the pole at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway. He won his first pole of the 2010 season in June at South Boston Speedway in June.

Rounding out the top 5 in points are J.P Morgan and A.J. Frank respectively. Morgan has led 158 laps in three Championship Series races while Frank has finished in the top-five in two of the three Championship Series.

Leading Raybestos® Rookie Logan Ruffin has claimed five top-five finishes so far this season and has led 184 laps. He scored a season-best fourth-place finish at South Boston.

The Strutmasters.com 300 at South Boston Speedway will crown the 2010 USARacing Pro Cup Series Champion on Saturday, Nov. 6. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m. for an exciting 300-lap race.

(October 3, 2010) – Jeff Agnew finished the Brushy Mountain 250 Sunday afternoon at Historic North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway exactly where he started: first.

Agnew rallied from a lap down and survived a green-white-checkered dash to score his second victory of the 2010 USARacing Pro Cup Series season, beating Clay Rogers to the finish line .775 seconds – about three car lengths.

The win was also a big payday for the Floyd, Va., native. He captured the WIX Filters Challenge, a $7,000 bonus for winning from the pole, pushing his total earnings for the event to $13,000. Agnew said the victory was “as good as any of ‘em” in his career and riding the elevator to victory lane accomplished longtime career goal.

“We’ve come here in a late model and finished second two or three times and I’ve always wanted to ride the elevator,” Agnew said. To finally get it in this series coming back here after its been shut down for so long, it’s just a wonderful feeling.”

That wasn’t the case when he fell a lap down just past the 100-lap mark.

“I thought we were sunked and flunked and everything else,” Agnew said. “I thought it was over. When the caution come out there a little bit later and we got to put our tires back on and we come back and passed everybody I was like, well, now we’ve got a shot because we’ve got a good enough car. We just about had to do that. We were making some adjustments there on that fuel stop at first that we really needed to make, which that probably allowed the car to be as good as it was at the end of the race. Sometimes a blind hawk will find an acorn every once in a while and we found one today [smiles].”

Unlike his driver, crew chief Doug Weddle, wasn’t anxious because he knew he could make up the lost distance.

“No, I didn’t think I was sunk because I kept telling myself when we get new tires on we’re going to drive right back by ‘em,” Weddle. “When that leader goes by you it’s a heartbreaking feeling but it worked out. We knew that new tires were going to be really important and we tried to keep that in mind. When that first caution fell it was within two laps of being within our fuel window and we made a call to go with fuel and try to keep two new sets of tires for the end. And gosh, man, it almost bit us.”

Agnew was comfortably ahead of Rogers on lap 244 when J.P. Morgan spun, bringing out final caution of the day and setting up a three-lap dash to the finish.

“We were out there 10, 12 car lengths, whatever it was, ahead and you never want to see a caution,” Agnew said. “But we knew it was coming because it’s just the way it works for us. You really got to pay attention on the restarts here after a few laps because you spin your tires so bad. I didn’t spin my tires too bad and I got a little bit of a cushion there and just able to hold on to it until the end.”

Agnew collected his second victory of the 2010 season and his 16th in 222 career starts. He grabbed his sixth top-10 in 11 starts this season and claimed his first pole. He led five times for 104 of the event’s 250 laps, the first time this season Agnew has led the most laps in a race.

Rogers placed second, his 11th top-five in 12 starts this season. Rounding out the top-five: Lucas Ransone, Caleb Holman and Stephen Nasse.

USARACING PRO CUP SERIES NOTES AND QUOTES

FOR THE BRUSHY MOUNTAIN 250

AT HISTORIC NORTH WILKESBORO SPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 3, 2010

JEFF AGNEW WON TODAY’S BRUSHY MOUNTAIN 250 PRO CUP SERIES RACE AT HISTOIC NORTH WILKESBORO SPEEDWAY.

NOTES:

- Agnew held of series point leader Clay Rogers in a green-white-checkered finish to win today’s race, the first-ever at Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway.

- DID YOU KNOW? Agnew rallied from a lap down just past the 100-lap mark to win the 250-lap race.

- Agnew won the pole earning, collected a $13,000 bonus from WIX Filters.

JEFF AGNEW, No. 73 TEAM 7 MOTORSPORTS / AMERICA’S QUICK LUBE FORD: YOU HAVE WON A LOT OF RACE IN YOUR CAREER. WHERE DOES THIS STACK UP?

“As good as any of ‘em that we’ve ever won. To win here at Wilkesboro, we’ve come here in a late model and finished second two or three times and I’ve always wanted to ride the elevator. To finally get it in this series coming back here after its been shut down for so long, it’s just a wonderful feeling.”

DID YOU THINK YOU WERE SUNK WHEN YOU WENT A LAP DOWN?

“I thought we were sunked and flunked and everything else. I thought it was over.

WAS YOUR CAR REMARKABLY BETTER AFTER YOU CAME IN AND PUT TIRES ON?

“Oh yeah. It was a lot better at the end of the race than it was at the first of the race and that’s due to those adjustments that we made. Hey, what can I say? It worked out for us this time. Next time it probably won’t.”

WHAT DID YOU THINK WHEN THAT LAST CAUTION CAME OUT? WERE YOU THINKING OH MAN, I DIDN’T NEED TO SEE THAT CAUTION.

“Oh definitely. We were out there 10, 12 car lengths, whatever it was, ahead and you never want to see a caution. But we knew it was coming because it’s just the way it works for us. You really got to pay attention on the restarts here after a few laps because you spin your tires so bad. I didn’t spin my tires too bad and I got a little bit of a cushion there and just able to hold on to it until the end.”

DO YOU THINK YOUR FELLOW PRO CUP SERIES COMPETITORS LIKED RACING HERE AT NORTH WILKESBORO?

“I think they do, definitely. If there get it to where their cars are hooked up pretty good they’ll love coming here and race.”

DID YOU HAVE ANY IDEA THE CAR WAS GOING TO BE THIS STRONG HERE THIS WEEKEND?

“I didn’t think we could win the pole but I thought we had a decent car the whole time our test and down here this weekend. I thought we’ve had a god car and just fortunate enough that it was better than everybody else’s today I guess [smiles].

THIS WAS YOUR SECOND WIN OF THE 2010 SEASON.” DO YOU THINK YOU CAN WIN ANOTHER RACE BEFORE THE SEASON IS OVER?

“If they let us we’ll get ‘em all [laughs].”

DOUG WEDDLE, CREW CHIEF, No. 73 TEAM 7 MOTORSPORTS / AMERICA’S QUICK LUBE FORD:

“We knew that new tires were going to be really important and we tried to keep that in mind. When that first caution fell it was within two laps of being within our fuel window and we made a call to go with fuel and try to keep two new sets of tires for the end. And gosh, man, it almost bit us.”

DID YOU THINK YOU WERE SUNK WHEN YOU WENT A LAP DOWN?

“No I didn’t think I was sunk because I kept telling myself when we get new tires on we’re going to drive right back by ‘em. When that leader goes by you it’s a heartbreaking feeling but it worked out.”

(Oct. 2, 2010) — Jeff Agnew claimed his second pole of the season Saturday during qualifying at Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway for Sunday’s USAR Pro Cup Series Brushy Mountain 250.

Agnew, a Floyd Va., native, posted the fifth quickest speed in Saturday’s two practice sessions. However, the late qualifying draw of 14th proved advantageous to the veteran who claimed the pole with a 20.271-second, 110.966-mph lap. Currently, Agnew is fifth in driver points, 93 points behind standings leader Clay Rogers.

Brandon Ward, of Winston Salem, N.C., earned the other front row starting position with a 20.321-second, 110.723-mph lap. It was the first time Ward had cracked the top 5 Saturday, as he recorded the sixth and 15th fastest times during practice.

Rogers will start third. The Mooresville, N.C., driver recorded a 20.731-second, 110.451-mph lap. Entering the event, Rogers possesses a 34-point advantage over Caleb Holman, who qualified fourth with a 20.472-second, 109.906-mph lap. That lap on the 0.625-mile track was his best of the day.

Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year contender Stephen Nasse, of Pinellas Park, Fla., rounded out the top 5 with a qualifying lap of 20.522 seconds, 109.356 mph.

The Brushy Mountain 250 will be the second race in Sunday’s “Triple Header” at Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway. Racing begins Sunday at 12:30 p.m. with a 50-lap Street Stock race. The Brushy Mountain 250 is slated to receive the green flag at 2 p.m. A 100-lap Modified race will conclude the racing weekend.

(September 18, 2010) – Eleven USARacing Pro Cup Series drivers participated in a test session today at Historic North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway in preparation for the October 3 Brushy Mountain 250.

While all the teams were busy learning how to mange tire wear on the .625-mile speedway, two drivers were particularly attentive to every detail: Clay Rogers and Logan Ruffin. Rogers leads Caleb Holman by 34 points in the battle for the series championship. Ruffin, meanwhile, is leading the battle for Raybestos® Rookie of the Year – and seeking respect from his fellow competitors.

Another series title would be Rogers’ fourth and tie him with Bobby Gill for most championship in Pro Cup Series history.

“For me it would be big,” Rogers said. “It’d be my fourth championship and that would tie me with Bobby Gill with four championships and that’s a pretty elite group to be in with guys like him. Nobody’s got five so I’m happy with four,” Rogers said with a smile.

Not smiling is second-place Holman, who knows the only way to win the championship is to beat Rogers – and that means winning races.

“If we don’t win he’s going to,” Holman said. “That’s the bottom line, that’s all there is to it. This is his kind of racetrack and we’ve just got to beat him. We’re going to have to outrun Clay and he’s probably going to finish second if we wins. I feel like we’re probably the best two in the series right now as far as race teams. If we don’t win I feel like he’s going to be right there and at least finish top two or three. That’s what it’s going to take.”

After a half-day of track time, Rogers had a clear understanding of what it was going to take to be successful at Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway.

“It’s all going to be about tire conservation,” Rogers said. “You’re going to see a lot of people sitting back and riding. It’ll be similar to our races that we have at Myrtle Beach. In our case we’ll have to go hard for the first few laps and try to get bonus points for leading a lap and then after that we go into conservation mode and start backing out early and not spinning the tires up off. Right now everybody is looking for speed but consistency is what it’s going to be all about. Whoever is going to have the fresher tires at the end of the race is going to be the one to beat.”

While Rogers and Holman are locked in a battle for the series crown, Logan Ruffin is trying to earn respect, win races and take home the Raybestos® Rookie of the Year award.

“I’ve been fighting that since I was 13 years old my first time that I ran late models,” the 16-year driver said. “If you can race around the guys that have been doing it for years and years, don’t wreck ‘em and rough ‘em up, drive with ‘em and be clean, be smooth, finish the races and if you finish well then you start catching their attention to say this is a kind that we can go race with. And that’s been my goal since I started running the late model or even the Pro Cup cars. Guys like Jeff Agnew, J.P. Morgan, Clay Rogers and Benny Gordon, you have to gain their respect. These are all guys who have been doing this for a long time, much longer than I have, and I’ve had to go out and prove that I’m not going to come up behind you and just wreck you. I’m going to race you clean, I’m going to do the best I can.”

Ruffin said that capturing top rookie honors in the series was a primary objective for the team since the start of the 2010 season.

“That was our goal going into the season and that’s what my team owner Steve Turner told me, that his goal this season was for us so we’re going to try to get it,” Ruffin said. “It would mean a lot. This is the first time in a long time that I’ve run a whole season of something in the same series. Like my last years in late model everybody was telling me that ‘We don’t want you to go out and run for a championship. We want you to go run the biggest, fastest racetracks that you can and get as much experience as you can.’ So I went from running an ASA car to a PASS car to a CRA car to running a local track car once in a while. But this is the first time that I’ve been in something racing for points. I think it’d be really neat to go out and be able to say that we finished this whole season and we won the championship or Raybestos® Rookie of the Year or both.”

(September 4, 2010)- As the USARacing Pro Cup Series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway for the American Freedom Spectacular, Saturday, September 11, for the second Championship race all bets are off as two drivers are tied for first place.

For the first time since August 2008, the USAR Pro Cup Series drivers took to the .533-mile high-banked oval on August 31 for an open test. Reigning Bristol winner, Caleb Holman and reigning Series Champion, Clay Rogers were both in attendance for last Monday’s test session where both hoped gain ground on their Championship dreams.

Clay Rogers, who is currently tied for first place with Caleb Holman, won all but three of the regular USARacing 2010 Season races. Rogers, of Mooresville N.C., won at Bristol in 2005 but he knows the track has challenges.

“This car on the racetrack with the banking here, we’re not use to having this at most places we go to,” said Rogers.

Caleb Holman, who is currently tied for first place with Rogers, finished second in the Championship opener at Concord Speedway. At Langley Speedway, Holman, of Abingdon, Va., claimed his third win of the regular season.

Holman was the only driver to upset Rogers’ sweep of the regular 2010 USARacing Pro Cup Series season. He is the current defending race winner (August 2008) at Bristol Motor Speedway.

J.P. Morgan finished strong at Concord Speedway, scoring his third top 5 of the season and moving into third, just behind Rogers and Holman. Morgan, of Ether, N.C., agrees with Rogers that Bristol Motor Speedway presents unique challenges for the USARacing Pro Cup Series drivers.

“This race track carries a lot more speed then any other race track we go to,” said Morgan. “You can’t see where you’re going when your going into the corners, your just listening to your spotters and hoping that they’re not going to say someone spun out.”

Sitting fourth in the Championship standings, Jeff Agnew heads to Bristol Motor Speedway coming off his first win since 2008 at Concord Speedway. Agnew, of Floyd, Va., battled point leaders, Rogers and Holman throughout the 250-lap feature, before taking the lead on Lap 204.

On September 11, Agnew will make his sixth start at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile”. The driver of the No. 73 Team 7 Motorsports Ford looks to better his second-place finish, which he logged in August 2005.

John Gibson, rounds out the top five in Championship points. Gibson, of Springfield, Mo., finished sixth at Concord Speedway. He has one start at Bristol Motor Speedway in August 2008, finishing ninth.

Logan Ruffin, leader of Raybestos Rookie of the Year points, is making his debut at Bristol Motor Speedway in a Pro Cup car. Ruffin, of Memphis, Tenn., started once before at the track in an American Speed Association (ASA) car.

“I’ve been here once before in an ASA car so I’m just having to relearn the race track a little bit and I’m having a ball doing it,” said Ruffin.

At Concord Speedway, Ruffin finished 12th after a late race mechanical problem. The finish put him right outside of the top 5 in sixth in Championship points but he still leads 157 points in the Rookie standings.

Chase Elliott and Stephan Nasse will make their first starts at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 11. Elliott, of Dawsonville, Ga. and Nasse, of Pinellas Park, Fla., have only logged laps during the open test at the speedway. Both drivers agreed they learned a lot during the test.

“I’ve never been to Bristol and so far I’ve had a great experience here. You can look at the track and see the line everyone’s run,” said Nasse.

The American Freedom Spectacular on September 11, 2010 marks the return of the USARacing Pro Cup Series to Bristol Motor Speedway after a two-year break. Before the Pro Cup cars hit the track the Frank Kimmel Street Stock series will race at 3:15 p.m. The green flag is scheduled to drop at 5:30 p.m. for the 200-lap Pro Cup race.

(August 29, 2010) – This past weekend at Concord Speedway was the first championship race for the USARacing Pro Cup Series, where Caleb Holman and Henderson Motorsports came home with the pole, a second place finish and a tie in the point’s battle with Clay Rogers.

Race day started off great being the fastest in both practices and clinching the pole with a lap time of 16.836. Holman then went on to dominate the first half of the race up until lap 127 when the first caution of the night came out.

He then brought the Food Country Chevrolet down pit road for gas and an adjustment. Holman would restart in the fourth position. Then when the next caution came out he came back down pit road for tires.

Again he restarted fourth. The battle for the top spot was heating up as the top runners, Rogers, Agnew, Morgan and Holman approached lap 200.

Holman was then attempting to make the pass for the lead from Rogers coming off turn four, when Agnew dove to the inside and made it three wide down the front straightaway to take over the top spot. Holman then proceeded to make his way around Rogers and settled in the second spot for the night, unable to catch Agnew who had pulled out to a straightaway lead.

“It all came down to getting by Clay down there,” said Holman. “I figured he would be really good when I got to him. I could get under him. I just couldn’t quite make the pass. I got down here and got on the rumble strip and the car took off. I had to let off and both him and I ran up the track.”

Up next on the grid for the second race of the championship series is the American Freedom Spectacular at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 11th where Caleb Holman is looking to defend his win from 2008.
