Brett Hudson Motorsports (BHM)

SALEM, Indiana (September 14, 2011) – - Part-time ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards driver Brett Hudson has endured some new tracks during the course of the 2011 season. From Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway to the even one of the smallest tracks on the circuit, Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, Hudson has been able to boost his ARCA resume. This weekend though, he will return to familiar turf when the series tackles Salem (Ind.) Speedway for the running of the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic by Federated Car Care.

In what is expected to be his final start of the year behind the wheel of the No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Hudson is still thriving on an incredible rebound from his most recent outing at Lucas Oil Raceway where he delivered his second top-10 finish of the season – finishing 10th after starting 20th.

If there is a track that Hudson is more familiar with on the ARCA tour, Salem Speedway is the place. The Owensboro, Kentucky native has competed at the half-mile oval nine times in the ARCA Racing Series alone. That’s not to mention his success and experience in a Street Stock at the bull-ring.

Saturday’s next-to-last short track race of the season offers an opportunity for Hudson to shine under the lights with a familiar face calling the shots. John Hayden, a former competitor in ARCA will resume the crew chief role on the team’s Brett Hudson Motorsports entry. Hayden, also a native of Kentucky was the mastermind behind 2010 ARCA Racing Series champion Patrick Sheltra’s first career win in 2008.

“I definitely think we have a winning combination,” offered Hudson who will make his 26th career ARCA start Saturday night. I can’t say enough about John (Hayden). He has really picked this team up and become a great asset to our organization. It stinks that we cannot run more races, but that’s the sponsorship fight that we’ve been tackling for years.

Thankfully though, we have a lot of great local support who help make this race possible. We had a good car in the race in the spring but we didn’t get the finish we wanted. It was typical Salem. One race you’re going to have a good effort, the next you could be in the fence. It’s just the nature of the beast.”

Not only does the team carry the spirit of the “Bluegrass” state, but the local Federated Auto Parts store in Owensboro, Kentucky brings nearly 150 fans and employees to the annual Salem fall tradition.

Brett Hudson

“It’s awesome not only for the city of Owensboro but great for the track when all those Federated Auto Parts employees who help support the race make the couple hour trip to support their favorite drivers. I’m hoping everyone can put on a great show for them.”

The team’s heart remains heavy as their thoughts and prayers continue to be with Harlie Bryant who is battling brain cancer. Since Talladega, the BHM team has decked out their car with support logos and apparel which has not only lifted the spirits of those surrounding the family, but created a drum line of support that appears endless.

“No doubt, it’s been a trying year not only for Harlie but her family as well,” sounded Hudson. “They are going to try and be at the race this weekend, but she has some treatment this week and her presence will just determine on how she is feeling. Whether she is at the track with us or cheering us on from home, we’re not only racing for ourselves, but we’re fighting to win for Harlie too!”

Additionally, the team’s thoughts and get well wishes are with several team members of the BHM family. Steve Ash, who normally serves as the fuel man for Hudson recently had surgery and will be unable to participate in Saturday night’s activities. Also, team member Ryan Koger was recently released from the hospital after suffering severe burns on his foot.

Not exactly knowing what 2012 consists of for Hudson and his family-owned organization at this point, Hudson plans to give it all or nothing and hopefully conclude 2011 in style.

“We’re definitely going to do everything we can to test and race at Daytona,” Hudson explained. “Of course a lot of it will depend on sponsorship and what not. We’re used to that though. The good thing is we have some time to put it all together, so I’m optimistic. I feel like Daytona bit us in February, so I’m seeking a little redemption, especially after proving how strong our superspeedway program is with our fourth at Talladega.”

In addition to Hudson Performance Drivelines, D-N-J Auto Parts, Double H Hydraulics, G&A Trucking and Warricktubing.com will join the team as associate marketing partners in the 17th of 19 ARCA races this season.

In 25 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starts, Hudson has produced three top-fives including a career best of fourth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2007 and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (April 2011) and 13 top-10 finishes overall. Hudson has one career ARCA pole also coming at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2005 driving the No. 62 Hudson Machine Shop Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic by Federated Car Care (200 laps / 111 miles) is the 17th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 87th ARCA event held at Salem (Ind.) Speedway is a one-day show. Practice begins Saturday, September 17 with an hour and a half practice session planned from 1:05 p.m. – 2:35 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. The field will take the green flag later in the evening at approximately 7:15 p.m. The event will not be televised but race coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,329th race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com. All times are local.

Hudson, the short track ace was able to do that optimism into results in the 12th race of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season and fourth of the year for the part-time competitor.

Invading LOR with a slick looking No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Dodge Charger paint scheme, Hudson was not only vying to send a message out to competitors but his biggest fan too. Back in Kentucky, five-year old Harlie Bryant is suffering from Brain Cancer.

The family-owned team has spread awareness and support about the family through their stock car. After a stout fourth place finish at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Hudson returned to racing this weekend with the same mentality he had then.

“We’re racing for Harlie,” he said. “Of course, we’re here to have fun and impress, but our mission is to drive support to Harlie and her family. We could all learn from her misfortune. She is definitely someone who makes a difference in your life. While it’s sad that she cannot be here with us, I’m glad she is able to watch the race from home.”

Before Hudson could set his sights on his Lucas Oil Raceway debut, the Kentuckian with the help of crew chief John Hayden had to dial in their No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Dodge Charger. The lone practice session of the day in humid and steamy conditions saw Hudson only able to muster 26th fastest time overall. Extremely disappointed with the results, the Brett Hudson Motorsports (BHM) team threw everything including the kitchen sink at their Chrysler nameplate – just hoping to qualify for ARCA’s return visit to the Indiana-short track in two and a half decades.

Having to qualify on-time and with a stout field entered, Hudson admitted he was nervous but confident in the changes his team made. In time trials, the 23-year old circled the track in 23.096 seconds at 106.928 miles per hour, a massive pickup from the team’s quickest practice lap. The improved effort landed him 20th in the starting grid.

From the drop of the green, Hudson had to fight hard for every spot on the track. With the most competitive field on deck this season, Hudson quickly realized that no one was willing to give an inch, so patience would be the key to success under the lights.

Through the first 15 laps, Hudson made a solid climb in the leaderboard settling in the 18th position. By lap 30, the No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Dodge Charger continued to lock the 18th position. Battling grip around the .686-mile paved oval, Hayden informed his driver that changes would be made to their Dodge Charger during the first round of pit stops.

When the first yellow flag waived approaching lap 40 Hayden brought his driver to pit road for routine service with Hudson returning to the track in the 19th position. Unfortunately, during the heavy green-flag run, the leaders who were setting a torrid pace put the BHM team one lap in the arrears.

Having to fight several cars to become in position for the lucky dog, Hudson battled nine-time champion Frank Kimmel, female competitor Kenzie Ruston, J.R. Heffner and Spencer Gallagher.

Kimmel received the lucky dog when the caution flag waived on lap 60, thus allowing another opportunity for the No. 94 to head to pit road for some more adjustments. Lining up the first car one lap down, the team needed a quick caution that would propel them back to lead lap status. When Sean Corr battled mechanical woes on lap 69, the yellow waived thus allowing Hudson to retain his lost lap back.

Having to start at the tail end of the longest line, Hudson didn’t mind as he knew that he still had plenty of time to climb back to the front. Restarting 18th, Hudson had to use the give and take method in order to move forward.

What Hudson wasn’t expecting was on lap 99, the No. 63 of Milka Duno tapped the No. 94 exiting turn four sending the driver for an innocent spin. Completely baffled by the contact, the short track star re-fired his machine and drove away from the scene but once again falling one lap down as the leaders passed him during the incident.

Restarting the race in the 19th position and the first car one lap down, Hudson’s day almost abruptly ended when his car broke loose and nearly creamed the turn two wall shortly after the restart. Hudson’s luck would turn around again when he received the lucky dog again on lap 120 when the No. 5 went for a spin.

Maintaining a lead lap status for a majority of the second-half, Hudson kept himself out of trouble and crept his way through the standings sitting in the 15th position with 25 laps to go.

With the leaders once again closing on the back of the lead lap group, Hudson gave way allowing leaders James Buescher, Ty Dillon and Ryan Blaney to pass by.

Brett Hudson

Catching cars on his same lap that included Max Gresham and Kimmel, Hudson boldly made a move to soar from 12th to 10th within the final 10 laps which is where he took the checkered flag.

“We had to work hard for this one,” Hudson said. “I kept thinking about Harlie during portions of the race, knowing that she would be happy with a good finish. I have no clue what the No. 63 was thinking, she just drilled me. Thankfully, we were able to get that lap back and it all worked out. I have to thank John (Hayden) and all the guys on the BHM team for working with me all day long and making this car the best when we really needed it.”

In addition to Hudson Performance Drivelines, D-N-J Auto Parts, Double H Hydraulics, G&A Trucking and Warricktubing.com joined the team as associate marketing partners in the 12th of 19 ARCA races this season.

In 25 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starts, Hudson has produced three top-fives including a career best of fourth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2007 and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (April 2011) and 12 top-10 finishes overall. Hudson has one career ARCA pole also coming at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2005 driving the No. 62 Hudson Machine Shop Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Next up for the ARCA Racing Series is a return to trip to the “Tricky Triangle” at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway for the running of the Pennsylvania 125. The 50-lap shootout is set for Saturday, August 6 with live coverage on the SPEED channel beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Superspeedway, Brett Hudson and his Brett Hudson Motorsports (BHM) team charged into Salem (Ind.) Speedway this past weekend hoping for a similar performance in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200.

Armed with crew chief John Hayden, a former winner at Salem (Ind.) Speedway, the BHM team unloaded their No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Chevrolet focused on the lone practice session of the weekend on Saturday afternoon.

By the conclusion of practice, Hudson had maneuvered his Chevrolet bow-tie to the eighth fastest lap overall, a little over four-tenths of a second slower than session leader Tom Hessert. The Owensboro, Kentucky native consulted with Hayden and the two put a conservative setup underneath their machine – hoping to start near the front in the first short track race of the season.

In Menards Pole qualifying presented by Ansell, Hudson’s lap of 17.915 seconds or 111.527 miles per hour ranked the team 10th fastest overall and the outside of row number five.

Mother Nature drenched the track Sunday morning forcing ARCA officials to tediously dry the race track right up until race time. The field would rev their engines at 2:15 p.m. and assist in the track drying process by running 20 green flag laps at caution speed.

By lap 21 the field was under normal racing conditions with Hudson quickly moving forward and sitting comfortably inside the top-10.

When the second caution flag of the event occurred on lap 52, Hudson brought his automobile to the attention of his team where Hayden made an adjustment to counteract a tight No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Chevrolet.

Restarting 12th, Hudson once again quickly charged back into the top-10 but when Dakoda Armstrong lost control of his No. 22 Dodge Charger on lap 69, Armstrong’s machine landed directly in the path of Hudson. The two connected with Hudson able to leave the accident scene with significant damage to their race car.

Damage control by the BHM team found a broken a-frame which would keep the Salem Speedway ace from continuing on in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200. Hudson would retire from the event and settle for 20th completing 75 of the race’s 206 laps.

Hudson would have to shake off the bad luck and prepare to drive his No. 00 Hudson Performance Drivelines street stock immediately following the ARCA event. After winning his heat race on Saturday, Hudson started second in the 50-lap event.

Despite a gallant effort to capture another win at the half-mile oval, Hudson would have to settle for third closing another weekend of racing at the Southern Indiana race track. Hayden also participated in the Frank Kimmel street stock event and finished fifth after starting 10th.

“Our car was pretty good in the ARCA race,” Hudson explained. “We just made a change to the car and it was responding well to the change and then the No. 22 lost it and I had nowhere to go. It stinks, because I think we could have had another top-five easily. We’ll pick up the pieces and see if we can make it to Toledo.”

For the second consecutive race, the Hudson Motorsports team brought awareness to a big fan of theirs, Harlie Bryant. Recently diagnosed with brain cancer, Bryant is scheduled for surgery on May 12th and attended Sunday’s Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 as a special guest of the BHM team.

Bryant participated in the driver autograph session, received a special goody package from Salem Speedway and even gave the command to fire engines on Sunday afternoon.

“I wish we could have done more but it was such a joy to see Harlie enjoying herself,” offered Hudson. “Everyone ate her up. She was so cute. We were hoping to take her to victory lane but we’ll try again down the road. We’re continuing to offer our thoughts and prayers to the family and absolutely hoping for the best.”

In addition to Hudson Performance Drivelines, Double H Hydraulics, Race Engines Plus (REP), G&A Trucking, Gene Patient Fabrication (GPF) and Warricktubing.com all joined the team as associate marketing partners in the third of 19 ARCA races this season.

In 24 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starts, Hudson has produced three top-fives including a career best of fourth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2007 and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (April 2011) and 11 top-10 finishes overall. Hudson has one career ARCA pole also coming at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2005 driving the No. 62 Hudson Machine Shop Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Superspeedway, Owensboro, Kentucky native Brett Hudson returns to normal territory this weekend as the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards makes their yearly spring trip to Salem (Ind.) Speedway for the running of the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200.

This weekend will be extremely busy for Hudson. In addition to running the third ARCA race of the season, the late model ace will also compete in the Frank Kimmel Street Stock event set to compete before ARCA’s grueling 200-lap battle on Sunday afternoon. Hudson is a two-time Street Stock winner at Salem (Ind.) Speedway, including the 2010 Firecracker 200 and Halloween 200.

Not only will Hudson have to battle against some of his most fierce rivals in his No. 00 Hudson Motorsports Chevrolet Street Stock, but John Hayden, Hudson’s crew chief is also entered in the Street Stock event offering a unique situation for the BHM team this weekend.

“I’m ready to roll,” said Hudson. “We should have two fast cars this weekend. I’ve always been a fan of the street stock races at Salem and I’m glad to be ARCA Racing at Salem too. Racing against John is either going to be a real good thing or a real bad thing,” Hudson laughed. “Hopefully we’ll be chasing each other on the track and deciding the win for ourselves and not ending up on the sidelines because of something happening on the track.”

No matter what the finish, Hudson will have little time to reflect as the ARCA Racing Series stars will take center stage at the historic half-mile oval a short time later. Hudson returns to ARCA competition at the Southern Indiana track for the first time since 2009 where Hudson maneuvered a ninth place finish.

In fact, Hudson has produced five of his 11 top-10 finishes at Salem Speedway including a matching career-best finish of fourth in 2007.

“Most of the time, Salem is about luck. You can have a rocket there but if you get entangled in someone else’s mess, your day can be done in an instant. We’ve worked hard to make sure we can come to Salem this weekend and stay away from any disaster and maybe just maybe put ourselves in victory lane. It sure would be a great way to build on Talladega.”

For the second consecutive race, the Hudson Motorsports team will bring awareness to a big fan of theirs, Harlie Bryant. Recently diagnosed with brain cancer, Bryant is scheduled for surgery on May 12th. After racing for many thoughts and prayers at Talladega two weeks ago, Harlie and her family will attend the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 and be apart of the pre-race festivities on Sunday.”

“It will be such a joy to have Harlie and her family at Salem this weekend,” continued Hudson. “She is such an adorable little girl. There are no words to describe what she is going through; let alone her family. All we can do is make them feel welcome this weekend and hope we can ease their mind with what’s going on with a great run on Sunday afternoon. It sure would be great to take Harlie to victory lane!”

In addition to Hudson Performance Drivelines, Double H Hydraulics, Race Engines Plus (REP), G&A Trucking, Gene Patient Fabrication (GPF) and Warricktubing.com join the team as associate marketing partners in the third of 19 ARCA races this season.

In 23 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starts, Hudson has produced three top-fives including a career best of fourth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2007 and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (April 2011) and 11 top-10 finishes overall. Hudson has one career ARCA pole also coming at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2005 driving the No. 62 Hudson Machine Shop Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available for this weekend’s activities. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Lisa Hudson of Brett Hudson Motorsports at 270.929.2160 or hudson00@adelphia.net.

Superspeedway; you do now. On Saturday morning, Hudson driving the No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Dodge Charger finished a stellar fourth in his Talladega debut.

The finish was very satisfying for the Brett Hudson Motorsports (BHM) team after their first go-around with a restrictor plate race in the season-opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway ended just four laps into the 80-lap event when a deflated tire caused Hudson to lose control and pound the wall in turn three.

Armed with crew chief John Hayden, who many in the garage consider one of the best when it comes to restrictor plate racing – the team ultimately felt they had an advantage over the rest of their competition.

In the three hour practice session Thursday, Hudson, an avid late model driver negotiated the 21st fastest practice time. With practice over, Hudson and the team went into strategy mode for qualifying – hoping to put their No. 94 Dodge Charger as close to the front as possible.

In time trials, Hudson produced the 18th fastest time, respectable for any rookie at Talladega. On Friday morning, the team timed in third fastest overall in drafting practice – just to test the waters with their competition. Unfortunately, an hour before the race was to start, Mother Nature soaked the 2.66-mile track ultimately forcing officials to postpone the race until Saturday morning.

With weather conditions improved considerably, Hudson strapped himself into his machine ready to do battle at one of the fastest race tracks in the United States.

From the drop of the green flag, Hudson easily proved that he had a fast car. Able to maneuver from the top to the bottom, the No. 94 machine had climbed into the 15th position by lap six and by lap 15 had inched his climb to 11th.

Hudson, with guidance from spotter Mike Velotta and coaching from Hayden danced around solidly in the top-12 before trekking his way to the front just after half-way.

By lap 45 the BHM had climbed to ninth and intense racing over the next 40 circuits would keep Hudson pinned between fifth and eighth but on the final restart of the event, Hudson who was running fifth at the time began to mount his charge and found himself in contention for the win on the last lap but had to fend off a hungry pack of hounds which included the No. 17 of Chris Buescher, the No. 52 of Tom Hessert and the No. 19 of Brian Rose.

Hudson masterfully protected his line and took the checkered flag fourth earning his third career top-five finish in ARCA and 11th top-10 overall. It was his first top-five effort on a speedway.

“I don’t know what to really say,” said a jubilant Hudson. “I mean this is great. Man, we worked hard. We didn’t have a lot of sponsorship to come here but we did because we wanted to prove that Daytona was bad luck and we have a team that is capable of running well. Man, this just feels so good. I have to thank John (Hayden), Jared (Bartlett, car chief), Gene (Patient of Gene Patient Fabrication), Mike (Velotta), my parents and everyone on the BHM team for their faith and belief in me. This is just awesome.”

Not only did Hudson want to run well for his team and sponsors but the team was in Talladega in support of Harlie Bryant. A short time ago, Bryant, a six year old from Hudson’s hometown in Owensboro, Kentucky was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and is scheduled for surgery on May 12th.

“This finish is for Harlie!,” encouraged Hudson. “We’re thinking about her every hour. She’s such a courageous and delightful little girl. She’s going to be in our thoughts and prayers for sure. I’m hoping that everyone will go to her “Hope for Harlie” Facebook page and show their support.”

Hudson Motorsports would like to thank their sponsors who made Talladega possible: to Hudson Performance Drivelines, Double H Hydraulics, Race Engines Plus (REP), G&A Trucking, Gene Patient Fabrication (GPF) and Warricktubing.com.

Next up for the ARCA Racing Series and Brett Hudson Motorsports is the first of two trips to Salem (Ind.) Speedway of the running of the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 on Sunday, May 1. With the jump to 15th in the ARCA point standings, the team returns to Hudson’s favorite short track hoping for another good run that could lead to an increased presence in 2011.

International Speedway.

Hudson, 23 will attempt to make his 22nd career ARCA start at “The World Center of Racing” but his first ever at a superspeedway. In fact, the famed street-stock driver hasn’t participated in an ARCA race over a mile-long since 2008. So, when the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona revs up this Saturday on SPEED, Hudson will be looking to make up for lost time.

With the help of veteran ARCA crew chief John Hayden, car chief Jared Bartlett, Joey Arrington and Tony Cola from Arrington Engines, Gene Patient of Gene Patient Fabrication and a host of volunteers, Hudson’s dream of competing on a restrictor plate track will come to life. The Brett Hudson Motorsports (BHM) team returns to the 2.5-mile monster on a waive of momentum after solid testing results last month proved that the team’s No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Dodge Charger will be competitive.

While Hudson would like to think he has a shot at winning the biggest race of the season, the Bluegrass native is staying realistic and is just hoping to leave the track with a strong finish and security that he still can pedal to the front.

“This is a dream come true,” said Hudson, who carries a career-best finish of fourth at Salem (Ind.) Speedway in 2007. “We’ve been trying hard for so many years to make this dream a reality and with the help of so many people; we’re finally going to be able to make it happen.”

With the recent re-pavement of the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Hudson won’t know what to expect compared to the old bumpy and decisive DIS, but he admits he has more than just the anticipation of new asphalt to worry about.

“I really don’t have a whole lot of drafting experience, so I’m optimistic to see how much everyone is going to work with me during the race,” Hudson explained. “The good thing is that our team has a lot of experience and I’ll have a great set of eyes from above in the spotter’s stand, so hopefully when it’s time to go, I’ll be ready and have a buddy or two.”

He continued, “Our biggest goal right now is to qualify strong, keep our No. 94 Hudson Performance Drivelines Dodge Charger on the yellow line and have a shot when that white flag is drawn.”

When asked what his 2011 racing season will consist of, Hudson replied with, “hopefully more than the past couple of years. It’s hard not to be able to race on a more consistent basis, but this is a family-owned team, so with sponsorship still being tough these days, we’re watching and saving our pennies. Hopefully if we leave Daytona clean, we’ll go to Talladega in April. If not, we’ll just see where we land.”

In addition to Hudson Performance Drivelines, Arrington Engines, G&A Trucking, Gene Patient Fabrication (GPF) and Warricktubing.com join the team as associate marketing partners in Saturday’s season-opener.

Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available for this weekend’s activities. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Lisa Hudson of Brett Hudson Motorsports at 270.929.2160 or hudson00@adelphia.net.

The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona (80 laps / 200 miles) is the first of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 48th ARCA race held at Daytona is a three-day show. Practice begins Thursday, February 10 with a four hour practice session planned from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for Friday, February 11 slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. A forty-five minute final practice session is etched in on Saturday, February 12th from 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. The event will take the green flag later that day shortly after 4:30 p.m. The race will be televised live on SPEED with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring and radio broadcast through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.

For Owensboro, Kentucky native Brett Hudson that statement could not have been more farther than the truth.

Last week, Brett Hudson and his Brett Hudson Motorsports (BHM) team participated in a three-day open test at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. After two and a half-days of testing, the team loaded up their hauler to make the trek back to Bluegrass State satisfied after Hudson impressed in his first superspeedway test session.

Under the leadership of former ARCA driver turned crew chief John Hayden, BHM unloaded Tuesday morning looking to get a good feeling on their No. 36b Dodge Charger. Utilizing some assistance from the 2008 ARCA Racing Series champion team of Allgaier Motorsports, it wasn’t hard to figure out that Hudson will be a sleeper heading into the season opener next month at Daytona.

Tuesday morning, the avid racecar driver posted the 12th fastest time. In the afternoon session, the team landed 21st out of 40 competitors who took to the daring restrictor plate track. Solid results in day one had the family-owned operation looking forward to day two.

Wednesday morning continued of single-car runs with Hudson in his Chrysler nameplate 19th on the sheets after 42 cars took their tango with the legendary race track. In the afternoon, ARCA Racing Series official opted to open the track to drafting with BHM taking a soft approach and keeping their focus on single-car runs but not ruling out dabbling a little in the drafting department.

Racing inches apart is nothing new to Hudson, but racing inches apart, three, four and sometimes five-wide at nearly 200 miles per hour is a whole new ball game for the 23-year old. Wrestling very little in the draft, Hudson was able to thrust his Dodge Charger into the 13th position after nailing a time of 48.834 seconds amounting to a speed of 184.298 miles per hour.

“Drafting was pretty cool,” explained Hudson, who plans to make his ARCA Racing Series debut from Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway next month. “We have to concentrate on qualifying runs, because more than likely we’ll have to qualify on time. However, we knew we could not leave the track without doing some type of drafting. We wanted to make sure the car would “suck up” to the other cars. It’s a good piece, that’s for sure.”

Before loading up and heading home, the team elected to spend Thursday morning doing a couple more single-car runs. During the three-hour session, Hudson maneuvered his No. 36 Brett Hudson Motorsports Dodge Charger around the track in 49.804 seconds at 180.708 miles per hour, landing just outside the top-10 in 11th, his highest position on the sheets.

Pleased with their results, the team opted out of the Thursday afternoon session and began their 13 hour ride home to Kentucky planning to piece together a game plan that would ensure Hudson the opportunity to cross off an item on his bucket list, racing at the “World Center of Racing.”

“Overall, we’re very satisfied with the way the test went,” said Hudson, who has 21 ARCA Racing Series starts to his credits. “We came to Daytona with really no big expectations in mind except to get a good feeling for the car and keep making improvements. We did that and more.”

He added, “I have to thank John (Hayden, crew chief), Jared (Bartlett, car chief) and the entire BHM team for helping out at the test. John (Hayden) loves this restrictor plate racing and always has a great setup. I’m looking forward to coming back in less than a month and giving everyone else something to talk about.”

The Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona is the first of 19 races on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The first of two restrictor plate races this season is set for Saturday, February 12, 2011 slated for 4:00 p.m. live on SPEED.

Patrick Sheltra

ROCKINGHAM, North Carolina (October 8, 2009) – - After finishing second in the Carolina 200 this past April, ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) veteran Patrick Sheltra returns to Rockingham Speedway this weekend looking to improve on the outing and end his season on a high note in Sunday’s ARCA RE/MAX American 200.

The run in April was impressive to say the least. From practicing fifth to qualifying a career best third and then to lead laps and finish a close second to eventual winner Sean Caisse, Sheltra sees Sunday’s season finale as a chance of picking up right where he left off.

There will however be one noticeable change for the Sheltra Motorsports team. Well, two if you put color into the mix. Sheltra’s No. 60 will sport the Toyota Camry model for the second time this year and Sheltra will sport a camouflage pink Buffalo Wings & Rings ride in their effort to promote Breast Cancer Awareness through the Kimmie Cares group.

“It’s a big weekend for us,” said Sheltra of Sunday’s race. “I’m glad to be back at “The Rock” and to drive a Pink racecar is unique and definitely something new for my career but it’s for a great cause so I’m all for it.”

The loss of a loved one to Breast Cancer hits close to home especially within the Sheltra Motorsports and Buffalo Wings & Rings tier as fellow team member and Buffalo Wings & Rings franchisee owner Leonard Ranieri tragically lost his wife, Eliza Ranieri last October to the disease. The team is racing in her honor this weekend at Rockingham Speedway.

“This is a special weekend for Leonard,” added Sheltra, who will make his third career start at Rockingham Speedway this weekend. “We’ve been working on this project since July and I think we’ve put together something that we’re all proud of all the way around. I’m racing for many reasons this weekend but I’m hoping that we can pull off a win for Leonard and Eliza on Sunday.”

The team’s car comes from Germain Racing through the Hattori Racing Enterprises outfit which saw success with April Rockingham winner Sean Caisse at the helm. The Whitesville, Kentucky operation purchased the car earlier in the season and ran the Japanese automaker at Michigan International Speedway in June but succumbed to engine failure while running in the top-five.

Sheltra said, “The car we finished second with at Rockingham in April was caught up in a wreck this year and it just wasn’t feasible to put it back together for this race when we knew that this Toyota Camry has the capabilities of taking our team back to victory lane.”

The 23-year old rising phenom added, “We’re hoping for a much better outing this weekend with our Toyota. The Germain Racing bunch has absolutely went out of their way to help us prepare this car for this weekend’s race and to see us return to victory lane. Mike (Abner, Germain Racing) will be on hand to assist us this weekend again with the car, so hopefully we can pick up right where we left off in April.”

Occupying the eighth position in the ARCA RE/MAX Series point standings with just one race remaining, Sheltra knows that his season has seen its highs and lows but he is focusing on trying to maneuver his family-owned team into the fifth position, which is just 110 points behind his current position.

“Realistically, we still have a shot at fifth,” said Sheltra. “We cannot afford to have anything go wrong this weekend. I need to be smart behind the wheel and stay out of trouble during the race and be there for the final 50 laps. That’s my goal. Hopefully if all the cards play out we can be sitting in a better position than when we started when the checkered flag falls.”

Following Sunday’s season finale, Sheltra will auction off the uniform donated by Awesome Racewear with the proceeds going to Kimmie Cares in Eliza Ranieri’s honor.

In his final NASCAR Nationwide Series race of the year at Homestead-Miami Speedway next month, Sheltra is gunning to donate $25,000 dollars to Kimmie Cares between the “Together We Can Make A Difference” bracelets and the uniform auction.

Entering Rockingham, Sheltra has 66 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated 10 top-fives and posted 22 top-10 finishes. A third place qualifying effort at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra’s best time trials efforts to date. He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 109 laps.

The ARCA RE/MAX American 200 (200 laps / 200 miles) is the 21st of 21 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The fourth ARCA race held at Rockingham is a two-day show. Practice begins Saturday, October 10 with an hour and a half practice session planned from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. The event will take the green flag on Sunday, October 11 shortly after 1:00 p.m. The race will be tape-delayed on SPEED. The event will be aired at 10:00 p.m. Sunday night. Live flag-to-flag weekend coverage will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.

Gunning to keep their top-10 finish streak alive in all of the intermediate tracks this season, Sheltra and his John Hayden led team zeroed in on practice Thursday to dial in the team’s No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger.

During the delayed two-hour session, Sheltra maneuvered the ninth fastest lap by putting together a lap of 32.595 seconds at 165.670 miles per hour.

“Our Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink car is really good,” said Sheltra after practice. “This is the same car that we raced with at Chicagoland and we went back to the shop and made some changes. It’s clear that the changes worked. I’m looking forward to the rest of the day.”

With heavy showers and thunderstorms rolling into the Kansas City area the night before, ARCA officials were forced to rethink their race day scheduled which included practice, qualifying and the 20th race of the season. Track conditions would force ARCA officials to drop qualifying which would line Sheltra ninth on the starting grid. It would mark the third consecutive race that the Indiantown, Florida native would start inside the top-10 at Kansas Speedway.

From the drop of the green flag, Sheltra was quickly on the move. A quick caution would halt “Mr. Showtime’s” start and keep his No. 60 neon and camouflaged machine at bay.

On the restart, Sheltra picked up where he left off by picking up several more positions and climb into the top-five before the race would take a dramatic turn for the Sheltra Motorsports team.

On lap 21, Sheltra was battling the No. 25 of Jesse Smith for position when the No. 60 turned sideways in two turn directly in the path of Brian Ickler. The No. 52 of Ickler made contact with the rear of Sheltra’s machine crippling the sheet metal of the Grace Sheltra owned automobile.

To add insult to injury on his trip back to pit road, the right front-tire blew out on the No. 60 machine causing major damage to the sheet metal on the right side of the Buffalo Wings & Rings Racing machine.

Several trips to pit road for damage control allowed Sheltra to remain on the lead lap but clearly had to manhandle a mangled Dodge Charger for the remainder of the event.

On the restart, Sheltra fiercely began marching through the field and had moved into the top-15 where he remained for much of the event and was sitting in the 12th position when the final caution waived inside the final 10 laps of the event.

With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Sheltra came down to pit road for four tires hoping to have the rubber to propel Sheltra into the top-10.

On the green-white-checkered, Sheltra’s machine stumbled costing the 23-year old phenom valuable time on closing in on his competition. Unable to communicate with his crew because of a radio issue, Sheltra was incapable of informing Hayden or his team of the restart issue.

Sheltra’s machine came back to life but it was too little, too late as he was only able to pass the No. 19 of Alli Owens to move into the 11th position.

Patrick Sheltra

“It was an eventful day for sure,” said Sheltra. “I learned a valuable lesson with a loose racecar. She just came around on me; definitely an aero-loose deal there. The guys did a magnificent job getting the car back together as best as they could. It was still really fast. The car tightened up near the end of the race and I felt like our best shot at a top-10 was coming in for tires near the end. Unfortunately, the car didn’t take off on the start; we think we had a pick-up problem with the damage from earlier in the race because we had plenty of gas left off. Still, all things considered; it was a decent day.”

He added, “I just want to thank Buffalo Wings & Rings and MC2 Energy Drink for their support of our race team at Kansas. I thought we were going to have a really good day but we made the best of what could have been a really bad day.”

With his finish, Sheltra closed in on seventh place competitor Bryan Silas in the ARCA RE/MAX Series championship standings just 15 markers behind the fellow Floridian. Just 110 points keep Sheltra from moving into fifth place competitor Craig Goess Jr.

Leaving Kansas, Sheltra has 66 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009).

Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is the season finale at Rockingham Speedway with the ARCA RE/MAX American 200. The final race of the year is set for Sunday, October 11 scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. In April, Sheltra backed up his first career victory at Salem Speedway with a second place finish at “The Rock” the very next week.

Kansas Speedway, Kansas City, Kansas

Race Information: Event: Kansas Lottery 150, Thursday, October 1 at 4:00 p.m. Local Time Track: Kansas Speedway Qualifying: Thursday, October 1 at 1:00 p.m. Local Time Track Length: 1.5-mile paved-oval.

Salem Speedway Recap: After marching to his first career victory at Salem Speedway in April, the Sheltra Motorsports team returned to the legendary short track hoping for the Salem sweep. After qualifying 10th, Sheltra was running in the top-10 when a night of problems began to unravel which included a flat tire and contact with the turn four wall. The team finished 16th.

Last Time Out: In last year’s ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Kansas Speedway, Sheltra finished eighth after qualifying eighth. The event was the team’s first race under the Dodge Charger banner. The effort was one of nine top-10 finishes for the Whitesville, Kentucky based operation last year. A year earlier, Sheltra finished 12th after notching his first career top-10 qualifying run driving the No. 60 Brady Ranch / FloraGanics Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.

Double Duty Weekend Ahead: Sheltra Motorsports officials announced earlier this week that Patrick Sheltra will reunite with MacDonald Motorsports and pilot the No. 81 Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger in Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway. Sheltra drove for the long-time NASCAR team at Daytona International Speedway in July.

Welcome Aboard: Sheltra Motorsports welcomes MC2 Energy Drink on-board as an associate marketing partner for Thursday’s Kansas Lottery 150 at Kansas Speedway. Available in Berry Blue and Cherry Red, MC2 Energy Drink is formulated to taste good, quench your thirst and provide that boost of energy you can drink and enjoy. MC2 Energy Drink will also back Sheltra for Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series event.

Big Weekend Ahead For The Buffalo: Buffalo Wings & Rings, the team’s primary marketing partner will adorn the hood on both the No. 60 Dodge Charger for the ARCA RE/MAX Series event and the No. 81 Dodge Charger for the NASCAR Nationwide Series event this weekend at Kansas Speedway. It marks the first time that the Cincinnati, Ohio based company will accessorize the hood in both series.

Double Take: Patrick Sheltra’s Dodge Chargers will look identical this weekend at the Kansas Speedway. Sheltra’s No. 60 and No. 81 machines will boast the team’s familiar and popular half-neon and half-camouflage wrap. The only major difference between the two schemes will be the number layout.

Another Announcement This Week: The Sheltra Motorsports team will make another announcement this week pertaining to the Month of October and the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series finale at Rockingham Speedway next weekend on Thursday.

The Coach Still Coaching: 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) champion Ted Musgrave will return to Kansas Speedway this weekend as the driving coach for the 23-year old phenom. Musgrave is familiar with Kansas Speedway after running eight NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events with a best finish of second in 2001. Musgrave is serving as Sheltra’s driving coach for the remainder of the ARCA RE/MAX Series season and for Sheltra’s upcoming NASCAR Nationwide Series races.

Points Check: After round 19 on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule, Patrick Sheltra sits seventh in the championship standings accumulating 3770 points. Just 105 points separate Sheltra from the fifth position. Car owner Grace Sheltra remains solidly in the top-10 in the car owner standings.

Patrick Sheltra ARCA Career At-A-Glance: Entering Kansas, Sheltra has 65 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009).

Watcha Haulin?: Crew Chief John Hayden has elected to use Sheltra Motorsports Chassis No. 13 this weekend at Kansas Speedway. This is the same piece the team raced to a sixth and ninth place finish at Kentucky Speedway and a ninth place at Chicagoland Speedway this year. This car has also had track time at Michigan International Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway and Chicagoland Speedway last season. The former Penske Racing ride has five top-10 finishes including a best of sixth at Michigan (2008) and Kentucky (2009) in six starts. It will be run for just the seventh time in Sheltra’s career. Chassis number 16 will serve as the team’s back-up automobile. That former Richard Childress Racing entry is a new addition to the team’s fleet. The Whitesville, Kentucky based team tested this Dodge Charger at Michigan International Speedway in May. It has yet to see any ARCA race competition.

You Can Be Apart Of The Ultimate Hunting Experience: Sheltra Motorsports wants to give a race fan an ultimate opportunity to join Patrick Sheltra or Sheltra Motorsports dirt driver Shannon Babb a chance at a paramount moment to hunt with either driver at Patrick Sheltra’s hunting ranch in Dryden, Texas. The best part, all expenses paid! Race fans will have the entire ARCA season to enter the contest with the winner being announced in the ARCA RE/MAX Series finale at Rockingham Speedway in October.
Sheltra Motorsports, Kansas Speedway Pre-Race Quotes:

Patrick Sheltra, driver of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger:

On Salem Speedway: “Obviously we had high hopes for Salem. We had a bad fast hot rod but found ourselves in some entanglements during the race that cost us a good finish. We persevered through the obstacles and still walked away with a decent finish.”

On Kansas Speedway: “I like Kansas Speedway. It was a track that I picked up on right away. We had a real good car and a great run last year so I’m hoping we’re able to back it up on Thursday. We made some changes to our Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger since we last ran it at Chicagoland Speedway so I’m hoping we took a step in the right direction.”

On Pulling Double Duty: “It’s a big weekend for me obviously. The amount of support I’ve received has been overwhelming and I think with a little luck and a little smarts we should have a good Nationwide run on Saturday. I’m extremely thankful to Buffalo Wings & Rings and MC2 Energy Drink for their support and being on the Nationwide car.”

On The Addition Of MC2 Energy Drink: “MC2 Energy Drink is no stranger to the racing scene but we want to align MC2 Energy Drink with a good home. We started talking with them last year at Homestead but now to have the opportunity to represent them is a big honor. I’m hoping we can give them and all of their customers two great runs this weekend.”

Sheltra Motorsports, Kansas Speedway Pre-Race Quotes:

Grace Sheltra, owner of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger:

On Salem Speedway: “Even though we weren’t able to complete the Salem sweep, everyone knew that we had a fast car at Salem Speedway. You never know what to expect in racing and we found ourselves in trouble after making a great charge to get back into the top-10. We can’t dwell on what happened we just have to concentrate on these next two races.”

On Kansas Speedway: “Kansas Speedway is a nice racetrack. It’s a lot like Chicagoland Speedway or Kentucky Speedway but it carries its own tune. Patrick obviously has run very well there in the past and I know that the team is bringing him a fast car. Hopefully if we can have some luck, we’ll have our best mile-and-a-half finish on Thursday.”

On Patrick Competing In The ARCA And NASCAR Nationwide Event: “He is stoked about this weekend. This is a race he’s been waiting to get for a while. He knows what it takes to run good at Kansas and I’m pretty sure we can have a top-20 run on Saturday. There is a lot of people here to support him this week and I think he’ll meet the challenges just fine.”

From the Kansas Lottery 150 it will be onto the task of making his fourth career NASCAR Nationwide Series start a successful one for MacDonald Motorsports in Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300.

But before the Indiantown, Florida native can draw all of his attention towards the second-tier NASCAR series; he is focused on his primary job behind the wheel of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings-MC2 Energy Drink Dodge Charger.

The final mile-and-a-half track of the season was particularly kind to the 23-year old phenom in 2008 and he’s hoping for a similar performance on Thursday afternoon. Last April, Sheltra Motorsports debuted their Dodge Charger program by qualifying a speedway best of eighth before thrusting their Grace Sheltra owned machine into the lead before settling for eighth. This year with success on the cookie-cutter type track, Sheltra is aiming high and gunning for his fifth top-five run of the year.

“I’m a fan of the mile-and-a-half tracks,” Sheltra said. “We’ve run okay on them this year but we’re plenty capable of finishing inside the top-five. We’re bringing the same car we finished ninth with at Chicagoland and we’ve even made some more changes to the body to make it even better, so I’m ready for a good race.”

The team elected not to participate in the open-test at the 1.5-mile speed plant but Sheltra isn’t concerned about that fact. Instead, he’s driven on notching his ninth top-10 run of the year in his third Kansas ARCA start.

“I feel like we’ve improved a little on our intermediate program from 2008,” continued Sheltra. “This year, we’ve finished in the top-10 in all three mile-and-a-half tracks so we’re aiming towards our fourth straight top-10. I feel like if we can keep our car in clean air and adjust on it during the race; we’ll be in good shape.”

MC2 Energy Drink, who’s enjoyed a wealth of success with their products has leaped aboard the Sheltra Motorsports train for this weekend’s activities with Sheltra ready to deliver.

Patrick Sheltra

“We’re looking forward to carrying the MC2 logo this weekend,” sounded Sheltra. “We’ve been talking to Ron (Serota, President) for almost a year now and we’re just proud that we could finally make them a part of our organization.”

Sitting 105 markers out of the fifth position in the ARCA RE/MAX Series championship chase, Sheltra is determined to propel his third year team into the top-five when the checkered flag waives at Rockingham Speedway next weekend.

“While our goal all year was to be in the hunt for the championship, I would be happy with finishing in the top-five. My guys have worked hard despite some bad luck but we’re ready to the end the year on a high note with two good runs and a fifth place finish in the championship race,” Sheltra concluded.

Crew Chief John Hayden has elected to use Sheltra Motorsports Chassis No.
Armed with the same Dodge Charger that Sheltra catapulted to his first career ARCA victory in April, the Sheltra Motorsports had high hopes entering the 19th race of the season.

In practice, Sheltra quickly put his Grace Sheltra owned machine in the top-10. Teetering between sixth and 10th for much of the session, the team led by veteran crew chief and former ARCA driver John Hayden tackled with shock, carburetors and minor chassis adjustments. When the cross flags were thrown in the hour and a half session, Sheltra landed 10th overall.

“The car is real good,” said the 23-year old phenom. “I know the guys are real excited to be here and believe me I am too. We worked on making our Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger better.”

In qualifying, Sheltra mounted a lap of 17.588 seconds at 113.600 miles per hour. The run placed the Sheltra Motorsports team ironically 10th on the starting grid.

“It was decent,” said Sheltra, who picked up a little over three-tenths of a second from his fastest practice lap. “I strongly believe that the car is good in race trim and that’s when it counts the most.”

At the start of the Fall classic, Sheltra immediately bolted solidly into the top-10 and had moved into the eighth position by lap five and picked up an additional spot a few laps later to settle in seventh.

Chasing down the fifth and sixth place cars, Sheltra was biding his time but as he caught his competition the two cars ahead got together and with little reaction time for Sheltra – he made contact with the No. 81; the altercation caused some damage to the fender of Sheltra’s Buffalo Wings & Rings Racing machine.

A caution flew a few laps later with Sheltra reporting normal car conditions and he was just “riding.” Little was said about the incident with his colleagues.

On the restart, Sheltra went backwards in a hurry. Flabbergasted about the direction of the car, Sheltra radioed his team that something was “bad wrong”. During the time, Sheltra lost a lap to the leaders but managed to stay from going two laps down when a yellow flag waived with the leader directly behind Sheltra.

Hayden called his driver to pit road after Sheltra reported a possible broken shock. Sheltra brought his machine to the attention of his team where they diagnosed the problem to be with an actual tire and toe-in problem and nothing to do with shocks. Four tires, damage control and a splash of gas later, Sheltra was good to go.

Back to racing, Sheltra put on a show and tried to retain his lost lap back but as he made the charge through the field, Sheltra found himself in a gutsy three-wide battle with the car in the middle drifting up into Sheltra with the No. 60 making solid impact with the turn four wall.

Sheltra regained control of his machine but the damage was enough to diminish the momentum and ultimately saw Sheltra go into the wall several laps later thanks to a cut tire.

Upon further review of the damage, the Sheltra Motorsports crew determined that the lower right control arm was bent in the contact and instead of taking the chance of destroying the car even further, the team efficiently made the repairs to the control arm and toe under green flag conditions. Sheltra would return to the track several laps later and take advantage of an attrition filled race to climb back up from 23rd to claim 16th.

I didn’t think that would hurt us too bad. The car was still acting fine until the tire really started to disaggregate.”

He added, “The guys did a great job repairing our Buffalo Wings & Rings car and then we got shoved into the wall and then our night was never the same. We needed to finish the race to keep us in the hunt for finishing fifth in the championship chase and despite a not so good run that finish is still within reach. We’ll move on from here and head to Kansas.”

Sheltra slipped back to eighth in the ARCA RE/MAX Series point’s standings with just two races remaining. A mere 105 points keeps the veteran ARCA driver from the fifth position controlled by Craig Goess Jr.

Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is their final intermediate track of the season from Kansas Speedway. The Kansas Lottery 150 is set for Thursday, October 1. Last year at the 1.5-mile speed plant, Sheltra Motorsports debuted their Dodge program in fashion with Sheltra qualifying a speedway-best of eighth and leading his first ever ARCA RE/MAX Series laps before capturing his second top-10 finish of the 2008 season.

After surviving and recovering from a vicious incident in the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway, Sheltra returned to the seat at the very next race at Salem Speedway and stormed to his first career victory in his third year of competition.

And with the ARCA RE/MAX Series returning to the half-mile short track for it’s annual fall retreat, Sheltra is aiming high and preparing to conquer the Salem sweep and put his No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger back in victory circle.

“Salem Speedway was always one of my favorite race tracks but after the win at Salem, it will forevermore be a place that I will never forget. While it’s great going back to the track this weekend knowing that I’m the most recent winner; I’m focused on proving that we can win again – and I think we can do it easily on Saturday night.”

Oddly enough, you would think that the Whitesville, Kentucky team would want to race the same Dodge Charger that propelled the team to stardom but the John Hayden led organization hasn’t raced the car since the second event of the season despite utilizing the machine as a back-up car for several races this year.

Patrick Sheltra

“For most of the year, we’ve tucked this car way in a corner,” added Sheltra. “This car is so special to this team; we did not want to take any unnecessary risks of ruining it. I know that we have a great setup that should allow us to be just as fast if not faster than we were here in April this weekend.”

The 23-year old continued, “Salem was our first race with Buffalo Wings & Rings and we were able to celebrate with them in one of the greatest places in racing, victory lane. Since then, we’ve been honored to hoist their logo and make all the wonderful people there apart of our family all year. The support we’ll have from them this weekend will be tremendous and I hope we’re able to complete the Salem sweep Saturday night.”

The Indiantown, Florida native will make his sixth career Salem Speedway start Saturday night and look for not only his second victory but look to tie his record for the number of top-10 finishes in a single season. With three races left including Saturday night’s anticipated thriller – Sheltra should easily match that record and then some.

“Always improving your record is good but that’s not primarily our focus. Right now, we want to win Salem. I want to win again for a bunch of reasons. I know John (Hayden, crew chief) and the guys are pumped up about going back – so I’m just ready to get the party started again.”

After finishing seventh in last weekend’s Road Course event at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Sheltra has moved back into the seventh position in the ARCA RE/MAX Series championship standings and still has an arms reach of claiming fifth. With just three events remaining, 135 points separate Sheltra from marching into the top-five. “It’s not going to be a easy but we are definitely capable of finishing strong at Salem, Kansas and Rockingham and if we give nothing less than 150 percent we should be able to walk away from another year of ARCA racing with our best point’s finish ever,” concluded Sheltra.

Crew Chief John Hayden has elected to bring Sheltra Motorsports Chassis No. 5 this weekend at Salem Speedway. This is the same piece the team roared to victory lane at Salem in April. It’s also the same automobile the team finished 11th with last Spring. The former Joe Gibbs Racing chassis will be run for ninth time in Sheltra’s career. Chassis No. 4 will serve as the team’s back-up automobile. This is the same piece the team competed with at Berlin Raceway and Toledo Speedway this year. It’s also responsible for Sheltra’s first career top-five run, a fourth at Berlin Raceway in 2007.

Entering Salem, Sheltra has 64 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009).

The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic (200 laps/111 miles) is the 19th of 21 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The 83rd ARCA race held at Salem is a one-day show. Practice begins Saturday, September 19 with an hour and a half practice session planned from 1:05 p.m. – 2:35 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is set for later in the day slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. The event will take the green flag shortly after 7:15 p.m. Saturday night. The race will be broadcasted live through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.

MILLVILLE, New Jersey (September 10, 2009) – - With the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series (ARS) season zeroing in on the finish line, veteran driver Patrick Sheltra wants to end the season on a high note which includes a solid performance in Sunday’s South Jersey Building Trades 150 at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP).

The 23-year old phenom is known for his late model skills on the dirt and has spent the last three years becoming a vigorous and aggressive contender on the asphalt but this weekend Sheltra will return to a road course for just the second time in his career.

His first tango last year with NJMP wasn’t one that could be overlooked. After experience problems in practice with the fuel pick-up, Sheltra battled back with his first real laps on the 2.25-mile road course with a solid 21st place qualifying run. During the rain-shortened event the Indiantown, Florida native used patience and skills he learned from the Skip Barber Racing school that propelled the up and comer with a noteworthy 11th place finish in the Loud Energy 150.

This year the popular driver returns to the New Jersey temple looking to improve on the finish and award his Sheltra Motorsports team with their eighth top-10 run of the year.

Patrick Sheltra

“Actually, I’m pretty stoked about going to New Jersey this weekend,” said Sheltra, the driver of the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. “Last year was my first real experience on a road course and I liked it. I still have a lot to learn though but testing last month and with the help of my driver coach Ted Musgrave, I’m feeling pretty good about the weekend.”

Indeed, Sheltra did tackle the Millville, New Jersey race course a few days after competing in an ARCA event at Pocono Raceway. Sheltra and his John Hayden led team spent eight hours adjusting the setup of their road course car while also throwing different techniques at their setup hoping to give their pilot that extra push.

“The test went real good,” Sheltra added. “As a driver I was like two seconds faster than I was last year and our times would have put us in the top-10 in qualifying, so overall I was pretty satisfied with the way the day went.”

He added, “I’m leaning on Ted (Musgrave) to help me stay on the track and correct me on the things I should not be doing. I’m glad he’s here for sure. He’s not too shabby of a road course racer himself so I feel he puts this team at an extra advantage this weekend. I cannot knock my guys on the team though. I have to give them credit. This is a car we built from the ground up last year and it’s been fast. I know we have a job to do on Sunday, but I’m looking forward to having a little fun too.”

For the second consecutive year, Sheltra Motorsports welcomes the Toad Fish Bar & Grill as supporter of the Whitesville, Kentucky based team for Sunday’s race.

“We’re appreciative of the Toad Fish Bar & Grill support of our race team again this weekend at New Jersey, Sheltra added. “They have been a big supporter of this race team since we came to New Jersey last year and we’re looking forward to spending an evening with them and the team on Saturday night.”

With just four races remaining, Sheltra idles in the eighth position in the ARCA RE/MAX Series point standings but realistically has a shot at finishing in the fifth position. Clearly he had made that his priority for his season-ending goals.

“We would like to be running for that championship but the cards have been dealt and we’re focused on running these next four races like we did at the beginning at the year where everyone was pointing to our team as one of the teams to beat. I know we can do it; we’ve just had more than our fair share of bad luck.”

Entering New Jersey, Sheltra has 63 ARCA RE/MAX Series starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem Speedway (April 2009). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated 10 top-fives and posted 21 top-10 finishes. A third place qualifying effort at Rockingham Speedway (April 2009) is Sheltra’s best time trials efforts to date. He has controlled the ARCA field five times for 109 laps.

The South Jersey Building Trades 150 (150 miles / 67 laps) is the 18th of 21 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. The second ARCA event held at the New Jersey Motorsports Park is a two-day show. Practice begins Saturday, September 12 with a one hour practice session planned from 12:20 p.m. – 1:20 p.m. A final “happy hour” session has been etched in for 1:50 p.m. – 2:50 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. The field will take the green flag on Sunday, September 13 shortly after 1:00 p.m. The event will not be televised but broadcast coverage will be available live through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local.

Sloppy weather in the DuQuoin, Illinois area created a challenge for the teams Monday morning forcing ARS to adjust their schedule by pushing practice, qualifying and the race ahead by a half-hour.

When practice finally rolled on, Sheltra quickly went to a familiar place on the dirt; first. Sheltra retained the top spot for a majority of the session before other competitors took their turn at the top of the leader board. Adjustments by the Sheltra Motorsports team tried to improve the handling of the Dodge Charger with Sheltra shoving himself back in the top-five but with an early draw in qualifying; the team halted their session early with the No. 60 sliding back in the rundown to 13th overall.

Drawing first in qualifying can pose a disadvantage to any team no matter what the track but the Whitesville, Kentucky team was poised to make the best of the situation. During his one lap run, Sheltra ran a time of 35.107 seconds at 102.544 miles per hour; the effort was Sheltra’s best lap of the one day show thus far.

“The track is really free,” said the 23-year old phenom, who qualified 10th. “It’s going to be an interesting race because of the track conditions. You’re going to see a lot of the cars on the edge but I think that can be an advantage for us.”

At the start of the Southern Illinois 100, Sheltra did not waste any time moving forward in the competitive field. By the completion of lap two, Sheltra had easily moved into the seventh position.

Trapped behind the No. 39 of Kelly Kovski, Sheltra was mining his matters but trying to setup his fellow dirt racing colleague to move into the first half-dozen. The patience paid off with Sheltra finally making the pass around Kovski before being halted with a caution two laps later.

During the caution, Sheltra reported to crew chief John Hayden that his car “was good but a little snug.” Hayden acknowledged his drivers response while also asking for the water temperature. Sheltra responded with “220.”

On the restart, the dirt late model ace made quick work of the No. 36 of Robb Brent solidly moving into the top-five while closing in on the fourth position of Josh Richards when Sheltra immediately keyed the radio and reported a major climb in his water temperature.

The temperature had climbed to 270 with the veteran ARS driver ready to make an unscheduled stop to pit road. The caution flag waived though for Sheltra’s stopped machine in turn three with Sheltra refiring his Grace Sheltra owned automobile and catching up to the tail end of the field.

Hayden brought his driver down to pit road for removal of tape and a hook-up to the cool-down system. Quick work by the team kept the Buffalo Wings & Rings Racing team on the lead lap.

Sheltra restarted deep in the pack but charged through the field before another yellow flag waived allowing the team to make another trip to pit road. Another hook-up to the cool down system brought the temperature down. The team released their driver back to competition planning to bring him back in the next caution lap but Sheltra reported over the radio that the motor was skipping.

The return trip to pit road proved to be the final resting place for the No. 60 Buffalo Wings & Rings Dodge Charger where the mechanical failure left the team with a disappointing 31st place finish.

I’m disappointed and frustrated to say the least. I want to thank my guys for giving me a fast car; it’s just a shame that we couldn’t make it to the end.”

Sheltra added, “I also want to continue to thank Buffalo Wings & Rings, Ferguson Pipe and all of our marketing partners for continuing to stand behind our team in this funk. We’ll refocus and move on to the final four races where it will be all about winning for the Sheltra Motorsports team.”

Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is a return trip to New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) for the running of The South Jersey Building Trades 150. The 18th event of the season is set for Sunday, September 13 set to roll off at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. Last year, Sheltra finished 11th in his inaugural road course debut after starting 21st.
