(Nov. 9, 2010)- Eddie Sharp Racing announced plans for the 2011 season on the NASCAR Race Hub on SPEED Tuesday night. The team will field the No. 46 Toyota Tundra for Craig Goess to run full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS).

“I am proud to announce that Eddie Sharp Racing will be running full-time next season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series,” said team owner Eddie Sharp. “Our team is ready to run full-time at the next level, and I am proud to have Craig Goess piloting our truck.”

Goess debuted in the NCWTS at Talladega Superspeedway in October with an impressive 10th-place finish. The Greenville, N.C., native is slated to run in the NCWTS event at Homestead Miami Speedway on Nov. 19, 2010 to better prepare for next year.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to compete next season in the NCWTS,” said Goess. “I think that running two events this season is really going to help us in the off season preparing for next year. After our 10th-place finish at Talladega, I feel like we have the perfect opportunity to get our feet wet and compete at the front of the series next year.”

The 2011 season will be Goess’ fourth year working the ESR. Goess debuted with the team in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2008. In 2009, Goess moved to the ARCA Racing Series, where he competed for the full season and finished fifth in the points in his rookie season. Goess continued to make waves in the ARCA Racing Series in 2010, as Goess competed in one of the most highly-contested championship chases in series history. With one win, three pole awards, 10 top-five and 15 top-10 finishes in 20 races, Goess finished second in the year-end points standings.

ESR proved to be a front-runner in the ARCA Racing Series over the past four years, fielding cars for drivers such as 2009 series champion Justin Lofton, Scott Speed, Michael McDowell, Nelson Piquet Jr., Brandon McReynolds, Ken Butler III, Josh Wise and other notable drivers. The team looks to continue its dominance in the NASCAR ranks.

About Eddie Sharp Racing

Eddie Sharp set up shop in 2005 in Denver, N.C. after several years of transforming young, talented drivers into ARCA championship contenders. Today, Eddie Sharp Racing has evolved into the rite of passage for any serious upcoming driver with an ambition for professional stock car racing. Located in Denver, North Carolina just north of Charlotte, Eddie Sharp Racing occupies a top-notch facility that closely resembles a five-star NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team, both inside and out. The two ESR buildings contain two teams where on any given day, championship contending cars are assembled, engines tuned and teams strategize to score the next race day victory.

Kansas Speedway

Race: Kansas Lottery 150

ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards: 19 of 20

Track: Kansas Speedway

Date: September 30, 2010

Craig Goess and the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Eddie Sharp Racing team enjoyed a weekend off from the ARCA Racing Series schedule. The series returns to the track this Thursday, and the No. 81 team is rested and prepared for the final two events of the 2010 season. With a full weekend of ARCA Racing Series, NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series action at Kansas Speedway, the ESR team looks to continue its trek to the ARCA Racing Series championship.

Craig Goess Fast Facts:

Last Race: Salem: Goess earned his third-career Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell at Salem Speedway two weeks ago. His fast lap of 17.523 seconds (114.022 mph) was good enough to land him on the pole for the start of the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic.

The green flag waved, and Goess led 34 laps before pulling into the pits for a problem with the throttle linkage. The No. 81 ESR team worked hard to quickly get the car back on the track, but the early, unscheduled stop put the No. 81 12 laps down. Goess was able to regain one lap and finished in the 13th position, 11 laps down from the winner.

1.5-mile Tracks: Goess has momentum on his side around the 1.5-mile tracks in the ARCA Racing Series circuit. This season, the series competed at the 1.5-mile ovals of Texas Motor Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway, and Goess collected top-five finishes at both (2nd, 5th). The trend reaches back to Goess’ rookie season in 2009, where he also collected four top-10 finishes at Kentucky Speedway (7th, 4th), Chicago (8th) and Kansas (10th).

Goess in the Sunflower State: Goess competed at Kansas Speedway only once in the ARCA Racing Series. In 2009, Goess started from the sixth position and fought a loose racecar around the 1.5-mile track. The No. 81 ended up 10th at the event.

Companion Races: Goess and the ARCA Racing Series will be a part of a busy weekend at Kansas Speedway. With the ARCA Racing Series event on Thursday at the track, the NASCAR Nationwide (NNS) and Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) will come into town for events beginning on Friday. The ARCA Racing Series competed in eight companion race weekends this season with the NSCS, NNS or the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. In the eight companion races, Goess has one win, four top-fives and seven top-10s.

In the Points: Goess fell to the third position in the ARCA Racing Series points standings. The tight point battle continues to get tighter as ARCA officials levied a penalty after the Salem Speedway race against then-leader Tom Hessert for post-race inspection infractions. With penalties included, the official point standings places Patrick Sheltra in the lead, followed by Hessert in the second position, 15 points back. Goess is in third place, 20 points behind the leader. With two races remaining in the season, Goess looks to capture his first ARCA Racing Series championship.

ESR Success at Kansas: Over the past three years, ESR found success at the Kansas City track. In 2009, then-ESR driver Justin Lofton won the pole award and finished second in the event on his way to capture the 2009 ARCA Racing Series championship.

The 2008 season also brought success for the team at Kansas as then-ESR teammates dominated the weekend; Ken Butler III won the pole award, and Scott Speed collected the win. Butler still holds the ARCA Racing Series qualifying record at Kansas with a lap of 30.799 mph (175.330 mph). Speed holds the race record at the track with a speed of 124.855 mph.

Craig Goess

SPEED Broadcast: The Kansas Lottery 150 will be the ninth of 10 races on the ARCA Racing Series schedule to be broadcast on SPEED Channel. The live race coverage begins at 4 p.m. CDT (5 p.m. EST). Live streaming audio will be also featured on the ARCA Racing Network at www.arcaracing.com with scoring and timing at 4 p.m. CDT.

Goess on running at Kansas Speedway: “I like the bigger tracks. Kansas Speedway is an amazing facility. We’re lucky to get to race there with some of the other series that go there. Our intermediate package has been really good, so it’s kind of like the Chicago race. We ran well there, and we ran well at Michigan and Pocono. We should do really well at Kansas. With two races left, the No. 81 team is going to give it everything that we have. We are still in the chase for the championship, and we’re looking forward to regaining those points that we lost at Salem last race.”

KB3 is excited to get back behind the wheel with Kids Embrace as he has watched his brother Brett race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this year with RWR.

“I have watched my brother Brett this entire season and I am excited to finally get behind the wheel once again. I have raced a few times in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and it was a blast. The series is very competitive and I look forward to driving the KIDSEmbrace™ Chevy among some of the best in the business at Chicagoland Speedway,” stated KB3.

Not in the customary cars and trucks going 180mph but rather a race for the cure for Crohn’s & Colitis.

RWR drivers, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Brett Butler, Ken Butler III, Mike Guerity and Timmy Hill will be at Freedom Park in Charlotte, North Carolina for the Charlotte Take Steps Walk!

Take Steps is CCFA’s national evening walk and celebration and the nation’s largest event dedicated to finding cures for digestive diseases. It is a casual 2-3 mile stroll to raise money for crucial research, bringing us closer to a future free from Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Over 1.4 million American adults and children are affected by these digestive diseases, including RWR crew chief Kevin Heins’ wife, Margaret, who has Crohn’s. While many suffer in silence, Take Steps brings together this community in a fun and energetic atmosphere, encouraging them to make noise and be heard.

“This is important to RWR,” stated Marketing V.P. Dave Mitchell. “Crohns & Colitis has an effect on us at our foundation. Not only does Kevin’s wife suffer from the disease, but so does a family member of one of our sponsors, KIDSEmbrace.

RWR will not only have five drivers in the walk, but the #6 KIDSEmbrace truck will be on display as well.

“We want NASCAR fans to join us in our race to raise money for the cure. Come walk arm and arm with the drivers and if you can’t make it to the event, please donate to the cure for our organization at www.wareracing.net.”

As at Pocono, the Racing for Wildlife 200 at Michigan International Speedway saw just two caution periods Friday. Pocono’s 200-miler was green for 68 of 80 laps; Michigan experienced an even higher rate of full racing, with 87 of 100 laps under the green flag.

The two cautions Friday were for a cut right front tire on Josh Richards’ No. 99 Ford, and for a spin from Chase Mattioli’s No. 17 Ford. The limited caution periods resulted in green flag pit stops at both events, once viewed as a rarity in the ARCA Racing Series.

“I think people are using their heads more, and it’s just better equipment than they’ve had in the past. Everybody’s racing smarter,” said Mikey Kile, winner of the Racing for Wildlife 200. “The ARCA Series has come a long way. The more races we have like this, the better the series is going to be, from an overall racing standpoint. Only two cautions today? It’s a major step forward for the series, for drivers and everybody.”

The low caution count is in a sharp contrast and shows a marked improvement when compared to earlier superspeedway races this season. The season opener at Daytona slowed for 36 laps on six cautions, while Texas was yellow eight times for 43 laps. Improvement began in late April, when the Talladega event produced just four cautions for 26 laps.

In 28 previous races at Michigan International Speedway, only two races had seen the yellow flag just twice.

Sealed with a Kiss: The Victory Lane celebration for Mikey Kile’s first career ARCA Racing Series Presented by RE/MAX and Menards win was filled with some very traditional elements: high-fives, a Gatorade bath, and the “Big Bill Kiss.”

Bill Venturini Sr., the team patriarch and a two-time ARCA Racing Series champion, planted a big, wet smack on Kile after he exited the No. 25 Sears Auto Center / DieHard Toyota. A national viewing audience witnessed the emotional embrace on SPEED, and “Big Bill” explained it soon after.

“Just like Andy Granatelli at Indy,” said the senior Venturini, “I kiss every one of my drivers who wins. Just like Andy Granatelli kissed Mario Andretti at Indy!”

Granatelli made his reputation as a car owner at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, winning two Indy 500s – with Mario Andretti in 1969 and Gordon Johncock in 1973. When Andretti won – the driver’s only Indy 500 victory – Granatelli planted a big kiss on his cheek, much to photographers’ delight.

Kile Not a Full Rookie: Although 2010 marks Mikey Kile’s first season as a full-time driver in the ARCA Racing Series, the Louisiana native is not eligible for the RE/MAX Rookie of the Year title.

In Chevrolets fielded by Brad Keselowski Racing, Kile made 8 ARCA Racing Series starts in 2009, one more than the maximum allowed in a season while retaining rookie eligibility. One of those 8 starts in 2009 was at Michigan, where Kile finished sixth.

Another First-Time Winner: Mikey Kile’s first career ARCA Racing Series victory marked the seventh different winner in eight ARCA Racing Series events this year, and the sixth different first-time winner in 2010. 2010 winners include Bobby Gerhart (Daytona), Justin Marks (Palm Beach), Steve Arpin (Salem and Texas), Dakoda Armstrong (Talladega), Chris Buescher (Toledo), Craig Goess (Pocono), and Kile (Michigan). Marks, Arpin, Armstrong, Buescher, Goess and Kile were all first-time winners.

Large numbers of different winners are not uncommon in the ARCA Racing Series, nor are large numbers of first-time winners in a given season.

In 2007, 15 different drivers posted ARCA Racing Series victories in 22 total events, 10 of whom were first-time series winners, including James Buescher (USA International Speedway), Chad McCumbee (Nashville and Pocono), Scott Lagasse Jr. (Kansas), Billy Leslie (Winchester), Erik Darnell (Kentucky and Michigan), Ken Butler III (Toledo), Michael McDowell (Kentucky, Pocono, Chicagoland, and Toledo), Jeremy Clements (Nashville), Bryan Clauson (Gateway), and Michael Annett (Talladega).

Pole Award Sees Early Variety: Just as Victory Lane has welcomed seven different winners in eight ARCA Racing Series races this season, the Menards Pole Award Presented by Ansell has also been awarded to a variety of drivers.

In eight races in 2010, pole qualifying has taken place seven times, with the only outlier being for a weather cancellation at Texas in April. Seven different drivers have won in the seven qualifying sessions, with five of those drivers achieving their first career pole.

Casey Roderick (Palm Beach), Max Gresham (Salem), Dakoda Armstrong (Talladega), Mikey Kile (Pocono), and Craig Goess (Michigan) each became first-time top qualifiers, with James Buescher (Daytona) and Chris Buescher (Toledo) having each taken a second career pole this season.

Youth is served, as well. The two Bueschers, Roderick, Gresham, and Armstrong – five drivers in all – were all born in the 1990s.

Consistency Builds Champions: Patrick Sheltra has not been one of the seven winners in eight events in 2010. However, the Indiantown, Fla. driver has managed to earn top-10 finishes in every race so far this season. Sheltra, whose one career victory came at Salem in 2009, is leading the championship standings by 35 points over Justin Marks. Frank Kimmel (fifth in points), Tom Hessert (sixth), Tim George Jr. (ninth), and Robb Brent (10th) are also looking for their first win in 2010. Despite being 11th in championship points, second-year driver Joey Coulter could be considered a strong candidate to become the next first-time winner on tour, having earned runner-up runs at Toledo and Michigan already this season.

The ARCA Racing Series Presented by RE/MAX and Menards features 20 events at 17 tracks on its 2010 schedule. The series has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 racetracks in 28 states since its inception. The series tests the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, annually visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as left- and right-turn street and road courses.

Founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in two professional touring series and local weekly events.

ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards: 8 of 20

Track: Michigan International Speedway

Date: June 11, 2010

Craig Goess and the Eddie Sharp Racing No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Toyota will take the track in the Racing For Wildlife 200 at Michigan International Speedway on Friday, June 11, 2010. Coming off his first ARCA Racing Series victory at Pocono Raceway, Goess hopes to keep the momentum from the win going as the team rolls into the Irish Hills of Brooklyn, Mich., this weekend.

Pocono Victory – The No. 81 ESR Greenville Toyota of N.C. team had a good feeling going into last week’s race at Pocono. As excitement built throughout the weekend, so did the momentum towards victory. Lining up third, Goess did not waste any time moving to the front of the pack. Behind leader Mikey Kile for much of the race, Goess’ determination to bring home the win outweighed anything else. Strategic calls from crew chief Johnny Allen and clean pit stops from the No. 81 team helped Goess gain the lead on lap 68. He held the lead until the checkered flag on lap 80.

Added to Team Record Books: Goess’ victory at Pocono served as the fifth ESR driver to steer a car to victory lane in the ARCA Racing Series. In the 17th team win, Goess added his name to the ESR record books. Justin Lofton, now racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, won the 2009 ARCA Racing Series championship and swept up seven wins over 2008 and 2009. Scott Speed, current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, won four races in 2008. Michael McDowell, driving this season in NSCS and the NASCAR Nationwide Series, won four races in 2007. Ken Butler III won the first race for ESR at Toledo Speedway in 2007.

Testing at MIS: Goess topped the charts two weeks ago at the morning session of the ARCA Racing Series open test at Michigan International Speedway. He led the field of 28 participating cars, turning the 2-mile track in 39.475 seconds (182.394 mph). After the afternoon session, Goess finished the day with the third-quickest overall time behind Mikey Kile and current ARCA point leader Patrick Sheltra.

Success at Michigan: In Goess’ only start at Michigan, he finished in the 10th position. ESR has also found success at MIS over the years. In 2008, ESR drivers stole the show as Scott Speed won the pole and Lofton won the race, capturing the race record for ARCA at MIS with a average lap speed of 150.596 mph. In 2009, Lofton earned the pole award.

Guest on Pit Pass USA: Goess is a guest on Pit Pass USA with Larry Henry on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 8 p.m. Henry is the Public Address announcer at MIS and serves in other announcing capacities in various sports. The show will be broadcast on the PowerUp Motorsports Channel at www.powerupchannel.com.

In the Points: The win at Pocono moved Goess up two spots in the ARCA Racing Series point standings to the fifth position. He is now 40 points behind Steve Arpin in the fourth position and 140 points out of first place.

SPEED Broadcast: The Racing for Wildlife 200 will be the fifth of 10 races on the ARCA Racing Series schedule to be broadcast on the SPEED Channel. The live race coverage begins at 5 p.m. EST. Live streaming audio will be also featured on the ARCA Racing Network at www.arcaracing.com with scoring and timing at 5 p.m. EST.

Goess on Michigan:

“We had a really great test at Michigan a few weeks ago. The car that we will be running is a great car. We ran it at Texas back in April where we led a lot of laps, and it felt really good there. We have a few new things that we want to try that we ran out of time to try out during the test, so we know what we need to work on there. If we can get the car to where we know it can be, hopefully we will be back in victory lane again on Friday night.”

Growing up, Brett and his brother Ken had dogs of their own. “Having a dog in the family provides numerous benefits,” explained Ken, “reports have shown that children with dogs in their lives while growing up are prone to be more emotionally and physically healthy”. Brett’s love of dogs has continued throughout the years.

After visiting ‘kill facilities’, or animal shelters that euthanize unwanted or deemed ‘unadoptable’ dogs many times due to bad behavior, Brett wanted to help them. By rehabilitating misbehaved canines, he could spare their lives and find them homes. ”These dogs don’t understand they’re doing wrong because they were never taught,” explained Brett, “if someone just took the time to train them they could make some home and family a very happy one”.

In order to become more skilled in the obedience training field, Brett sought council from expert Andy Hanellin, founder of Dog’s by Andy in North Carolina. There he learned tricks of the trade, from breed knowledge, canine care, kennel management and basic and advanced obedience training. “What was great about learning from Andy was that he taught me not just what to do to train a dog, but why do it” adds Brett.

Brett returned to Atlanta and opened up Alpha Dog Training with Ken in the summer of 2009, where they offer a three-week boot camp for dogs. In the boot camp, canines are taught commands like heel, sit, stay, down, come and place, in any language including French, Belgian, Dutch, or German. Alpha Dog Training’s goal is to reach basic obedience where the owner has 100% control of the dog. They also train canines in narcotics to have the ability to recognize and find illegal drugs.

Brett’s humanitarian efforts are well aligned with his racing sponsor Fuel Doctor USA, a fellow champion of the environment. Fuel Doctor’s FD-47 helps to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted from a consumer’s automobile, providing cleaner and safer air for humans and animals. “We’re really behind Brett’s commitment to providing canines with a second chance,” voiced Fuel Doctor USA CEO, Mark Soffa, “he’s trying to create a better life for animals and so are we.”

With an abundance of canines trained already for clients like Michael Waltrip, Kelly Picklet and Big Boi from the music group Outkast, Alpha Dog Training is sure to be a top dog competitor just like Brett is on the track. Brett just returned from the Dover 200 and is looking forward to the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, May 21st at 7:30pm followed by WinStar World Casino 400k at the Texas Motor Speedway on June 4th, 2010. (November 23, 2009) – Ken Butler III and the No. 23 Aaron’s Outdoors Mossy Oak team rounded out the final NASCAR Nationwide Series race of the 2009 season Saturday afternoon at Homestead-Miami Speedway. In his first career start at the 1.5-mile oval, Butler held his own against a tough field of competitors, including many stars from the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, for 200 laps to finish 27th in the Ford 300.

Ken Butler III came into Homestead-Miami Speedway hoping to bring home a solid finish in his final race with long-time sponsor Aaron’s. After posting the 28th-fastest time out of the more than 50 drivers who participated in qualifying Saturday morning, the entire Aaron’s team was poised for a solid run.

“The car felt pretty good,” said Butler. “The guys worked hard on the car after practice last night and we were able to pick up some speed this morning. I am happy with that lap; I think we have a great car for the race.”

From the onset of racing action, Butler reported to his Aaron’s team that the car was free getting into the corners and tight center off. The team used an early caution to bring the Aaron’s Dream Machine down pit road on lap 24 for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment and rejoined the field in 27th position.

The Aaron’s Outdoors Mossy Oak team used the next series of cautions during the first half of the Ford 300 to help adjust the tight condition Butler was fighting in his No. 23 Chevrolet. By the midpoint of the race he was running 27th, one lap down to the leaders.
As the sun began to set, the handling on the Aaron’s Dream Machine began to improve as track conditions changed. Butler had to make a green-flag pit stop on lap 147 for four tires and fuel and returned to the to the track in 27th position, running lap times as fast as the top ten, but plagued two laps behind the leaders.

Butler remained fast for the final 53 laps of the race but could never get the track position to make up a lap to the leaders. When the checkered flag waved to mark the close of the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, Butler crossed the finish line with his Aaron’s Dream Machine in 27th position.

“We didn’t get the finish I was hoping for today but 2009 has been a great year for me,” said Butler. “I have gained some great experience and learned a lot as a driver. I now know that I can compete with the top drivers in the world. It’s just a matter of getting the right car to compete in each week.

“I want to thank everyone at R3 Motorsports for everything they have done this season,” continued Butler. “The team kept getting better all year long. I also want to give major thanks to Aaron’s for all their support throughout the years. They have been a great sponsor. As we look for a new team and sponsor this off-season I can only hope to find another company as great to work with as Aaron’s has been.”

Kyle Busch clinched his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship with a victory in the Ford 300. Carl Edwards, Jeff Burton, Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.

Now that he’s completed his rookie season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Butler will get a well-deserved break before turning his attention to finding a new ride for 2010. With Aaron’s not returning as a sponsor, Butler is currently seeking sponsorship to continue his climb through the NASCAR ranks.

RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE HISTORY

· DID YOU KNOW? The most recent Raybestos® Rookie to win a Nationwide Series race is Juan Pablo Montoya. Montoya captured the 2007 Corona Mexico 200 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez (Mexico City, Mexico), crossing the finish line .750 seconds ahead of Denny Hamlin (101 races).

· DID YOU KNOW? The most recent Raybestos® Rookie to win a pole position in the Nationwide Series is Justin Allgaier. Allgaier captured the top starting spot for the 2009 Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 at Memphis (Millington, Tenn.) Motorsports Park (three races).

· Landon Cassill won the 2008 Raybestos® Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Cassill finished the season with one pole and five top-10 finishes in 19 starts. He grabbed the top starting spot for the Camping World RV Sales 200 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (race No. 18). His best finishes were sixth-place efforts at Gateway (Madison, Ill.) International Raceway and Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.

· The most recent streak for at least two Raybestos® Rookies to rank inside the top-10 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship standings is 21 consecutive races (2007 race at Kentucky Speedway, race No. 16, through 2008 Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, race No. 1).

· Roush Fenway Racing has won THREE OF THE LAST FOUR Raybestos® Rookie of the Year titles in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and FOUR since 2001.

2007: David Ragan

2006: Danny O’Quinn Jr.

2005: Carl Edwards

2001: Greg Biffle

Danny O’Quinn Jr. narrowly edged John Andretti to win the 2006 Raybestos® Rookie of the Year title in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. O’Quinn Jr. finished one point higher than Andretti in the final standings, the closet margin in NASCAR national series history. He also became the second driver in series history to win the award without completing the full schedule.

Kyle Busch posted a record-setting year on his way to the 2004 Raybestos® Rookie of the Year title. In 34 starts, Busch won five times, captured five poles and scored 16 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes. His second-place finish in the Nationwide Series championship standings is a record for a Raybestos® Rookie. Other Raybestos® Rookie records Busch owns or shares: most starts (34), most wins (tied with Greg Biffle), most top fives (tied with Greg Biffle), most top 10s, most money won ($2,027,050), most championship points (4,943), most laps led (1,108) and most races led (21).

David Stremme holds the record for fewest starts by a driver to win Raybestos® Rookie of the Year. In 2003, he started just 18 of the 34 races and was the top rookie finisher in 16 of those starts. Stremme scored three top-three finishes and had more top-10 finishes (seven) than any other first-year driver. He led six races for a total of 86 laps.

David Green was the first Raybestos® Rookie to win a Nationwide Series race, at Lanier, Ga., in 1991. Green captured the Nestle 200 by 1.58-seconds over Jeff Gordon, a fellow Raybestos® Rookie. A third Raybestos® Rookie, Todd Bodine, placed eighth in the race.

Dennis Setzer was the first Raybestos® Rookie to win TWO or more races in a season. In 1994, he won the Ford Credit 300 at South Boston (Va.) Speedway and The Pantry 300 at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Steve Park was the first Raybestos® Rookie to win THREE or more races in a season. In 1997, he won the BellSouth Mobility/Opryland 300 at Nashville (Tenn.) Speedway, the Detroit Gasket 200 at Michigan International Speedway and the Autolite Platinum 250 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

Kenny Wallace was the first Raybestos® Rookie to win a pole in the Nationwide Series. Wallace grabbed the top starting spot for the 1989 Goody’s 300 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, the first race in the history of the Raybestos® Rookie of the Year program.

(November 16, 2009) – Ken Butler III had a strong run at Phoenix International Raceway until he lost power in the motor of his Aaron’s Outdoors Mossy Oak Chevrolet on lap 87. The motor problem forced Butler behind the wall and ultimately ended his day with a 32nd-place finish in the Able Body Labor 200 Saturday afternoon.

The Aaron’s team was poised for a solid weekend after posting the 22nd-fastest time during final practice Friday afternoon, but the Aaron’s Dream Machine was too loose during qualifying and posted the 39th-fastest time Saturday morning.

When the race started Butler quickly proved how fast his Aaron’s Dream Machine really was. Only eight laps into the 200-lap contest the first caution came out and he had already moved the Aaron’s Dream Machine into 32nd position. Butler radioed to his crew that the car was loose on entry and tight on exit. Crew chief Jeff Kirkendall decided not to pit so they would not lose track position.

The race restarted on lap 12 and continued for a long green flag run. During that run Butler radioed to his team that the car was tight center off and loose on throttle. Despite handling problems, the Aaron’s Dream Machine was fast on long runs and Bulter continued his climb through the field, making it to the top-20 by lap 77.

The second caution of the afternoon flew on lap 77 in the middle of green-flag pit stops. The Aaron’s team had not made their stop yet and was able to come in for service during the yellow on lap 80. Kirkendall called the Aaron’s Dream Machine in for four tires, fuel, and a track bar adjustment and sent Butler back out for the restart on lap 83 in 19th place.

The Aaron’s crew pushes the No. 23 back to the garage to make repairs.

On lap 87 Butler radioed to his crew that he heard a small pop going into turn one. He lost power in the motor of the Aaron’s Dream Machine and was forced to the garage on lap 87, 113 laps from the end of the race. The engine problem relegated Ken Butler III and the Aaron’s team to a 32nd- place finish.

“We just can’t catch a break,” said Butler. “I am disappointed that we didn’t get to finish this race. It took a little while for the Aaron’s Outdoors Mossy Oak Chevrolet to get going but it was a really good car, especially on long runs. The guys did a great job in the pits. I can’t wait to get back on track next weekend and finish the season with Aaron’s and all the guys on a good note.”

Carl Edwards grabbed his fifth NASCAR Nationwide Series victory followed by Kevin Harvick, Reed Sorenson, Clint Bowyer and Brad Keselowski rounding out the top five.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will close out the 2009 season at Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend. Live race coverage begins on ESPN2 at 4:00 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on MRN Radio at 4:00 p.m. EST.

“We had a pretty decent car. We were good on long runs. We were 18th I think which would have been our best position so far during the race. We just have no luck. I think it broke the camshaft. It’s just a shame for the Aaron’s guys. This was one of the best race cars I’ve had and especially here in Phoenix it’s so tough it made my job a little easier. The guys work hard and they gave me a good race car today. It was fun. I got to race pretty good. It’s just a shame.”

No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger

JUSTIN ALLGAIER IN THE No. 12 VERIZON WIRELESS DODGE WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TODAY’S RACE AT PHOENIX.

NOTES:

- Allgaier posted a 16th-place finish on the lead lap. He earned Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the second time in the last three races and the 11th time this season.

- UNOFFICIALLY Allgaier is sixth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship standings, 14 behind fifth-place Mike Bliss and 86 ahead of seventh-place Steve Wallace.

- UNOFFICIALLY Michael Annett is 10th in the standings, 41 points ahead of 11th-place Kenny Wallace and 44 ahead of 12th-place Tony Raines.

Justin Allgaier

ALLGAIER: YOU CLAWED YOUR WAY BACK FROM A LAP DOWN TO FINISH ON THE LEAD LAP.

“Yeah we did. It’s unfortunate we got ourselves back on the lead lap and then got taken out for no apparent reason. It’s just really frustrating when you drive so hard and you do everything you can do it’s just really frustrating. The Verizon Wireless guys did a great job all day long in and out of the pits. We worked really hard to try to make this car better. We just struggled. I don’t know what the deal was but we just struggled all day long and never really could get the car to handle well. I don’t know what it was.

It’s unfortunate. I think we lost fifth in points but I think we padded our Raybestos Rookie of the Year so that’s a definite plus. We’re going to give it 110 percent. We did that today and hopefully the points that we did lose today, I don’t know how many eight spots are worth in points, but the points that we did lose hopefully we can overcome those next weekend at Homestead and get fifth back.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

“I just went down in the corner and was going to let him have the bottom and got drove into. I don’t know why. I mean Jason [Leffler] and I have been good friends for a long time. It’s really a shame because stuff like that shouldn’t happen.”

Brendan Gaughan

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 5 HOUR ENERGY ES CHEVROLET:

“Today was embarrassing. This was one of the two most embarrassing runs we’ve had this year. We’ve been good, we’ve had medium runs, bad runs, good runs but this was as embarrassing as Richmond. I don’t know what else to say. We had a chance still to make a race out of the Raybestos Rookie gig and to come through under pressure like this is just embarrassing.”

WAS THE CAR TIGHT OR LOOSE?

“There wasn’t a thing to describe it. It was so tight all day and then we kept trying to loosen it up and all we did was bring the rear out of the track.”

Michael Annett

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 PILOT TRAVEL CENTERS/GERMAIN.COM TOYOTA:

“We’ve got to be better on the first run of the race. We keep putting ourself a lap down early and then you’re fighting back the whole time and just waiting for good luck. And then on the pit stops there we took off and a lug nut fell off and when I went to put it in reverse it broke off reverse and so then couldn’t get it back. It was stuck so we put on the lug nuts and that’s a penalty for pitting outside the box. They had already thrown the green by the time that piece I had broken off had fallen out of all the other gears and we were finally able to move again.

They threw the green and we went a lap down and at the point we were two down at the back. Still didn’t have the car where we wanted it. I think we had one piece of good luck all day by getting the wave around deal. That put us two laps down but at least we were racing with the 34 [Tony Raines]. We finished ahead of the 34 and the 96 [Michael McDowell] and Kenny [Wallace] just got 10 points on us. As long as we keep being right there with them and we go to Homestead and run like we normally do on the mile-and-a-halfs we’ll get 10th in points and that’s our goal right now.”

RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE HISTORY

· DID YOU KNOW? The most recent Raybestos® Rookie to win a Nationwide Series race is Juan Pablo Montoya. Montoya captured the 2007 Corona Mexico 200 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez (Mexico City, Mexico), crossing the finish line .750 seconds ahead of Denny Hamlin (100 races).

· DID YOU KNOW? The most recent Raybestos® Rookie to win a pole position in the Nationwide Series is Justin Allgaier. Allgaier captured the top starting spot for the 2009 Kroger On Track For The Cure 250 at Memphis (Millington, Tenn.) Motorsports Park (two races).

DOLLAR GENERAL 300 NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE

AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 16, 2009,

ERIK DARNELL, No. 6 NORTHERN TOOL + EQUIPMENT FORD:

“I guess the 38 just lost it underneath us. Looked like he bottomed out and, you know, got loose and then come up the track and we were on the outside of him at that point. Just kind of a racing deal, kind of frustrating. I didn’t really know what happened. I knew the 38 was underneath us and then going into one I knew the 5 was down on the bottom and I thought he might have crowded him a little bit but after seeing the replay it looked like the 5 backed off, the 38 bottomed out and just kind of lost it and unfortunately we were on the outside of him. Just a tough break for our whole Northern Tool + Equipment team. The guys did a really good job in practice putting a good car underneath us.

We qualified well and I feel like with our first couple of pit stops we were heading in the right direction with adjustments and thought we were going to get a pretty good finish out of it but to get taken out that early, it stinks. It seemed to be pretty wild out there. Where we were at before that pit stop it was kind of calm down there back where we were at. We were just kind of single-file riding around biding out time. We knew we had to make some pit stops to make some adjustments. I guess some guys were racing pretty hard and we saw it when we got going with that double-file restart. These tires here are so hard. Unfortunately you get one of these things sideways out here it’s hard to save it and that’s what happened. We just got caught up in somebody else’s mess.”

JUSTIN ALLGAIER IN THE No. 12 VERIZON WIRELESS DODGE WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TONIGHT’S RACE AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY.

Allgaier scored a 12th-place finish and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the tenth time this season and for the second time in the last three races.

ALLGAIER: YOU HAD AN UP AND DOWN NIGHT.

“We did. Unfortunately we had a tire go flat on us there with about three to go. We thought we could have held off the 29 and maybe finish ninth but just wasn’t meant to be. These Verizon Wireless guys did such a great job. We felt like we had a good car we just didn’t get exactly where we needed to be at there at the end. It’s a good points day. I think that probably gives us more points for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year battle and definitely moves us farther ahead of the 66 in points so that’s a big plus. Can’t say enough about these guys. They did a great job all day.”

YOU QUALIFIED THIRD AND RAN WELL IN THE RACE TONIGHT. IT SEEMED LIKE YOU WERE FAST ALL WEEKEND.

“I tell ya, the guys back at the shop have been working their butts off to try to build new racecars. The engine shop has been giving us great engines and that’s all the kind of stuff that you’ve got to do. We’ve got to build a better program for next year even more so and I think getting some information with a teammate next year is going to be a big help. We’ve got a lot of good things going on and I think we’ve learned a lot over the course of the last couple of races this season. I’m definitely glad that we’re able to do what we do.”

HAS YOUR INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM IMPROVED THIS SEASON?

“I think our program period is getting better but I think where you’re seeing it the most is the mile-and-a-half program just because this is the majority of our racetracks and I think you can prove it a little bit better here. I think we’re getting better everywhere and I’m looking forward to next week. I think we’ll have a good car going into Memphis then we get to go test the COT car I guess on Talladega weekend. There’s a lot going on. We’ve got an exciting couple of weeks coming up and I think that we’ve got a real shot at staying fifth in points and really going for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year battle.”

THE RACE TONIGHT LOOKED INTENSE AT TIMES WITH TWO AND THREE-WIDE RACING.

“It was really weird. You’d start after a restart and everybody seemed to get in line right away and nobody was really being all that crazy and then you’d run about 10, 15 laps and everybody just lost their brains. We caught a bunch of cars and passed some guys because they were getting two-wide. They were probably faster than we are but we caught ‘em and passed ‘em because they were trying to race each other.

Tonight was a big night for patience trying to do everything we could do and I think it turned out well in the long run. I mean you can’t ever predict a flat tire but it happens and just glad that we finished. The last two laps were scary as all get out trying to get down in the corner. To lose the spots that we did is disappointing but at the end of the day it is what it is and we’ll go on next week to Memphis.”

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 LUMBER LIQUIDATORS TOYOTA:

“We were really good on the first 10, 15 laps and then we needed a better car for the long runs. We had a bunch of them which normally here you think a caution is going to breed another caution and it really didn’t. I think there was a 30-lap run there at the end and a couple 50-lap runs. I think we’ll take this car to Texas and we know exactly what we need to do make it better for a long run which was something that we couldn’t take out of it on a pit stop. We did the best with what we had and we’ll go on and get a top-10 hopefully get a Raybestos Rookie of the Race next weekend.”

HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM GETTING BETTER THIS SEASON?

“At Kansas we ran really well we just didn’t have the finish to show it. We ran in the top-10 for most of the day. One thing we’ve prided ourselves on was having long-run cars and tonight when we needed it it was completely opposite. Like I said we know what we need to do to fix it, just couldn’t do it under a pit stop.”

YOU AND ALLGAIER RACED HARD IN THE CLOSING LAPS OF THE RACE.

“I’ve raced clean with Justin all year. He got by me and I tried to move up a groove and get momentum to get back by him and the 29 and I killed the wall coming off of four, just killed the car for the rest of the race. I think we lost two more spots because of it.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 USFIDELIS CHEVROLET:

“Earl Barban was spotting for me tonight. That’s Jimmie Johnson’s spotter and used to be Rusty’s spotter back in the day. I tell you what, that man has got some talent. We missed that first wreck but when we went through the grass, unfortunately, right where I went through the grass is one of those big drainage grates. It popped the USfidelis car up and it made the boys have to do some damage control on the right side. Just missing a wreck, I mean, nothing you could do there, just racing. Then that one wreck off of Turn 2 man Earl started screaming where to go and this and that and I think I might have closed my eyes and just listened to what he said. And then the 6 come just diving in front of me.

I’m like ‘Oh my God, this is going to hurt’ and somehow I missed him. We brought it home in one piece. This is our first Kevin Harvick car. In the rookie battle, I think Michael Annett did another great job tonight. Michael Annett has really been on fire lately. I saw the 12 fade in the end but it’s almost too little too late in the Raybestos program for us. We need either two wins in the last couple of races this season to make a strong run. I’m proud of Michael. He’s done a great job especially with limited funds at the end of this year. We’ll head on to Memphis.”

TONIGHT IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW ROTTEN YOUR LUCK HAS BEEN THIS SEASON.

“We’ve got good racecars. Rusty Wallace is giving us very good race cars. It’s almost the story of my career the last couple of years. I always believe that you make your own luck and I must be doing something wrong. The guys work hard, the fab shop works hard, everybody works hard and we go to miss a wreck and we pile through a grate, you know, nobody’s fault. You go to California and you get wrecked not on your own and running up front. We’ve had some tough deals but Dale [Ferguson, crew chief] and all the boys are working hard. Not body is quitting over here.”
