· Gaughan’s love of road racing led him to team with veteran Andy Lally for last year’s Grand-Am event at Montreal, in which the duo scored a runner-up GT class finish. With his affinity for road racing thus strengthened, Gaughan heads to Watkins Glen sporting one top-five and two top-ten finishes in the last three Nationwide Series road course events. His best career road course finish (third) came in this year’s first road race at Road America.
· Through RWR’s affiliation with Joe Gibbs Racing, Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Sprint Cup Series pit crew will be servicing Gaughan’s No. 62 during the race on Saturday. This is in an effort to provide the No. 11 team with additional experience performing “reverse” pit stops, which are exclusive on the schedule to Watkins Glen and Road America.
· Gaughan’s sixth-place finish two weeks ago at Indianapolis marked his seventh top-ten of 2010, putting him just one shy of the eight top-tens he tallied in all of 2009.
· The primary car for Gaughan this weekend is RWR-027, which has two straight top-ten finishes with Gaughan aboard (Ninth—Montreal 2009, Third—Road America 2010). The “27 car” was the outside pole-winner at Montreal in 2008 with Italian “Mad” Max Papis at the controls. Gaughan’s backup is RWR-023, which he last raced at Watkins Glen in 2009. The “23 car” also ran at The Glen with Papis in 2008, where it scored an 11th-place finish.
