ICKLER A SEASONED VETERAN AT IOWA SPEEDWAY

Brian Ickler, set to make his second start of 2011 in Kyle Busch Motorsports’ (KBM) No. 18 Tundra, is a seasoned veteran when it comes to racing at Iowa Speedway. Saturday’s Coca-Cola 200 will be Ickler’s ninth career start at the 7/8-mile tri-oval. His resume includes two previous NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) starts, two each in the K&N Pro Series East and West, one in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and one in the ARCA Racing Series. The 25-year-old won the 2008 U.S. Cellular 200 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race and has collected five career top-10 finishes at the asphalt track. The California native has already visited Iowa Speedway once this season, practicing the No. 60 NNS car that Carl Edwards finished second with in the Iowa John Deere Dealers 250.

“Iowa Speedway is a very unique track; they did a great job designing it. It definitely has a short track feel, but it is round and big and you have to stay on the throttle to keep your momentum going — like you do on the mile-and-a-half tracks. The track has changed since the first time I raced there in 2007; the bump in turns 1 and 2 is getting worse and you have to be really good to get through there.”

BRIAN ICKLER ON EXPECTATIONS FOR COCA-COLA 200

“I’ve raced at Iowa several times and have a win there in the East Series. I have a good feel for what I need to go fast and have been very competitive no matter what series I’ve raced there. A little over a month ago, I was able to practice Carl Edward’s Nationwide car. I’ve been on the track already this year and that track time should help this weekend. We had a fast truck last year but got caught up in an accident and didn’t end up with the result we were capable of. I’m confident that Eric (Phillips) and the guys will provide me with a fast Toyota Tundra again this year. If we can avoid trouble, I think you’ll see us running up front and be in the mix at the end of the race.”

ERIC PHILLIPS ON PRIMARY TRUCK SELECTION

“This will be our third race with KBM-7. It was a brand new truck in February when we won at Phoenix and we also finished second with it at Martinsville. Iowa has a lot more banking then those two tracks, so our setup for this weekend is quite a bit different. We ran well last year with Brian at Iowa and two years ago I ran well there with Mike Skinner. I think we’ll have a good truck and we’re looking forward to having a strong finish with Brian.”

ERIC PHILLIPS ON BRIAN’S COMFORT LEVEL AT IOWA

“You definitely can tell that Brian is very comfortable at Iowa. Last year at the beginning of practice, we were a little bit off the pace and he knew exactly what he needed to make the truck go faster. We made a few changes and quickly got to where we needed to be. In comparison, at Texas a few weeks ago it took us a lot longer to get the truck where he wanted it because he didn’t have a lot of track time and wasn’t able to provide us with the same type of quality feedback.”

“I’m really just looking to get the money off my back,” said Gresham. “We had such a great first half of the season and the last two months have just been one piece of bad luck after another for me. We’ve run great only to have bad luck at the end of the race. It’s been a real buzz kill on my season. At this point, I’m just looking to get rid of the bad luck and have a good finish.”

The 2010 season has been feast or famine for Gresham, a 17-year-old senior student at Woodward Academy in College Park. GA. Gresham scored victories in two of the first NASCAR K&N Pro Series events this season and then won the Tim Richmond Memorial 200 ARCA race at Mansfield (OH) Speedway.

Since then, Gresham has suffered through several misfortunes – including having his engine expire while leading and coming to the white flag in the NASCAR K&N event at Dover International Speedway two weeks ago.

This weekend, Gresham hopes to break the spell of bad luck wheeling his No. 71 Gresham Motorsports Toyota in the ARCA event at ‘The Rock.’

“I had the opportunity to go to Rockingham and test recently and it was quite an experience just to walk into such a historic place,” Gresham stated. “For the most part, the test went well. We were at a little disadvantage because of my inexperience, but my Gresham Motorsports guys worked hard and we got better as the test went on. Since then, the guys have gone back to the pull-down rig and they’ve gotten the car better. I’m confident we’ll have a good run this weekend. It would be good to get a solid top-10 over even a top-five without getting crashed or having something break at the end of the race.”

The American 200 ARCA race at Rockingham will get underway with an open practice session on Thursday, October 7. Qualifying is set for 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time Friday.

Saturday’s American 200 will be preceded by a UARA Late Model Stock Car race on the Rockingham one-mile oval at 11 a.m. Gresham and his Gresham Motorsports Toyota will take the green flag in the American 200 at Rockingham at 1:30 p.m.

“Goess looks to contend for ARCA Racing Series Championship this weekend”

Craig Goess

Entering his second season in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards, Craig Goess looked to utilize his experience from his rookie season to contend for the series championship.

Last season, Goess had the opportunity to watch first-hand how to win a championship. His Eddie Sharp Racing teammate Justin Lofton topped the points at the end of the 2009 ARCA Racing Series season to win the championship. Goess also was able to learn in his first season in the series. The Greenville, N.C., driver finished his rookie season fifth in the point standings, posting 12 top-10 finishes in 21 races.

This season, however, Goess had one goal in mind–to win. As the 2010 season comes to a close, Goess and the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. team hope to accomplish the ultimate goal of winning the ARCA Racing Series championship.

The 2010 Season

When asked to sum up the season in one word, Goess replied without haste: Perseverance.

“There is no other word to describe the mentality of our team,” explained Goess. “This team pulled together this season, and we have continually improved together. We experienced the ups and the downs, but we have one goal in mind and that is to push toward the championship. It has been really great to see everyone at Eddie Sharp Racing create such a great team atmosphere.”

The season began with a rocky start on the high-banks of Daytona International Speedway. Battling problems during qualifying and the event, Goess found bad luck early and finished in the 34th position at the superspeedway. “To start the season like we did at Daytona was tough,” said Goess. “I think, however, it was a big boost to what we were going to have to overcome in order to get better. At tracks like Daytona or Talladega, you never know what is going to happen. We seemed to learn that early.”

Goess and the No. 81 team then headed to Palm Beach International Raceway, the first of two road courses on the schedule. “Road courses are in no way my specialty,” explained Goess. An early incident relegated the No. 81 to a 13th place finish.

From there, Goess and the No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. team hit an early stride and collected three top-five finishes in three races. The team finished second at the short track of Salem Speedway, second at the 1.5-mile track at Texas Motor Speedway and fourth at Talladega Superspeedway after replacing an engine early in the weekend.

The team hit a snag at Toledo Speedway with an incident at the halfway point and ended the weekend with a 14th-place finish. “It was an unfortunate finish at Toledo, but I think the weekend allowed the team to regroup and light a fire under us.”

First Win

As the ESR team headed to the “Tricky Triangle” of Pocono Raceway, Goess was hungry for a win. Excitement built throughout the weekend as the No. 81 showed speed, and the No. 81 crew knew the Toyota could contend for the victory. Lining up third, Goess did not waste any time moving to the front of the pack. Behind leader Mikey Kile for much of the race, Goess’ determination to bring home the win outweighed anything else. Strategic calls from crew chief Johnny Allen and clean pit stops from the No. 81 team helped Goess gain the lead on lap 68. He held the lead until the checkered flag on lap 80.

Goess collected his first win of his ARCA Racing Series career. “My favorite memory of the year has to be the win at Pocono,” said Goess. “It was a great feeling to work so hard and get my first career win in the ARCA Racing Series.”

First Pole Award

A week after winning his first ARCA Racing Series race at Pocono Raceway, Goess continued to make a statement as he claimed his first career pole at Michigan International Speedway. He came out on top of practice early in the day and then claimed the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell with a lap of 38.490 seconds (187.062 mph). When the green flag dropped on the Racing for Wildlife 200, Goess showed speed and led 74 of the 100 laps. In a stroke of bad luck, the caution flag came out when the No. 81 was on pit road, putting Goess a lap down and ending the team’s good day. Goess, a lap down but among the leaders, finished sixth.

“It was great to earn my first pole award right after our first win,” said Goess. “It was, however, probably my most disappointing moment of the season. We had a really, really fast car, and when the green flag waved at MIS, we were set to win that race. The thing about racing is that you never really know what is going to happen.”

Halfway Point: Consistency

Including his win at Pocono and sixth-place finish at Michigan, Goess continued to rack up 10 top-10 finishes in 11 races. He finished eighth at Iowa Speedway, second at Mansfield Speedway and third at the second race of the season at Pocono Raceway. “Throughout the middle of the season, we really hit a stride. I think that we gained our footing and really took everything on a race-by-race basis.”

The team traveled to the Illinois State Fairgrounds for the first of two dirt track races, where he remained without incident and finished 11th in his third-career dirt track event. “We have been making progress in all aspects of our program,” said Goess. “I think that you can see that with our improvements in the finishes on the dirt tracks.”

Goess collected his second pole of the season at Chicagoland Speedway, where he finished fifth. At the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, Goess earned his highest finish of seventh at a dirt track. Goess grabbed another top-five finish at Toledo Speedway before earning his third pole award at the high-banked short track at Salem Speedway. He finished 13th after Goess was forced to pit so the team could fix a broken throttle cable.

In the 19th race of the season at Kansas Speedway, Goess knew that every point and every lap would count in the chase for the championship. Quick pit stops from the No. 81 crew and smart strategy from crew chief Allen aided in Goess’ trek to the front of the pack late in the race. He crossed the finish line third, which puts him 10 points out of the championship with one race to go.

“Overall, this season has been a great experience for everyone on the team,” stated Goess. “There were ups and downs, but I think that our team has shown perseverance and the hunger to win. We keep each other in check and know that it takes hard work and will power to get there. I know at the end of the season, we will be proud of everything we have accomplished.”

Rockingham Speedway

Goess competed twice at Rockingham Speedway in the ARCA Racing Series. In 2009, Goess entered “The Rock” as a rookie, looking to take on the historic track for the first time. He finished sixth in the race and was thrilled for his first top-10 finish in the series. The team returned for the last race of the season and collected a 17th-place finish after battling handling problems. The finish was good enough for Goess to earn a top-five finish in the ARCA Racing Series points standings for his first season.

This season, Goess hopes to improve on his previous finishes at Rockingham and earn his spot amongst the ARCA Racing Series champions. “Ending the season at Rockingham is something special for the entire series,” said Goess. “There is so much history at the track, and it’s a great feeling to have the fans at the Rock cheering on the end of the championship chase. We’re looking to win at the track, and we are going to do everything we can in the final race of the season to get to our goal of winning the championship. That would be the ideal end of this great season.”

The race at Rockingham Speedway is also the only event of the 2010 ARCA Racing Series season in the state of North Carolina-home of Eddie Sharp Racing and Goess. “It’s special to have the final race of the season in our home state, especially with such anticipation for an exciting points finish,” said Goess. “It’s always nice to have the opportunity to have family and friends at the event, and I think that’s the best way to end the season.”

End of the season

As the season comes to a close, the competition is fierce for the chase to championship. The top-three of Patrick Sheltra, Tom Hessert and Craig Goess continue to exchange positions in the standings as they battle to the finale at Rockingham. Going into the event at Rockingham, Sheltra leads Goess by 10 points and leads Hessert by 20 points.

“It is going to be an exciting race no matter what,” said Goess. “We are just going to continue doing what we have done all season long. I know that there is going to be a pressure surrounding the entire race, but the No. 81 team has a lot of confidence in me, and I have a lot of confidence in them. All season long we have continued to improve, and at the end of the race Saturday, I hope that our hard work pays off.”

When the checkered flag waves on the 2010 season, Goess hopes to add another word to sum up the season: Champion.

· This Week’s Dodge … Robb Brent will pilot chassis No. 001 from the Allgaier Motorsports stable this weekend at Toledo Speedway. This Dodge Charger made its first start of the 2010 season at Iowa Speedway in July, where Brent started 20th and finished 23rd. It most recently raced at Mansfield Motorsports Park the very next week, where the 23-year-old driver started 12th and finished 14th.

· Allgaier Motorsports at Toledo … Springfield, Ill.-based Allgaier Motorsports made their debut at Toledo Speedway in 2003, with driver Justin Allgaier. In 13 ARCA Series starts, the team has accumulated one win, six top-five and eight top-10 finishes. Allgaier Motorsports entries have led a total of 77 laps at the half-mile oval; and have accumulated an average starting position of 15.38 and an average finishing position of 10.8.

· Brent at Toledo … Brent has made seven starts at Toledo Speedway since 2006. His average starting position is 17.9, and average finishing position is 23.7, due in part to a pair of transmission failures and two accidents in his first four starts. Since 2009, Brent has made three starts for Allgaier Motorsports, recording top-15 finishes in each outing.

· Last Time Out … Brent started 18th and finished a disappointing 22nd in his Allgaier Motorsports Dodge at the Du Quoin State Fair dirt mile last Monday. Brent looked to be strong during the one-hour practice but after making heavy contact with the outside wall with 10 minutes left in practice, the crew was forced to unload their backup car. Early in the race, the team diagnosed a carburetor issue, which forced a lengthy pit stop and resulted in a loss of three laps to the leaders, two of which Brent was able to make up before the checkered flag waved.

· Round Two at Toledo … The ARCA Racing Series visited Toledo Speedway early in the season, where Allgaier Motorsports and Brent finished a solid 13th after being involved in a pair of incidents.

· After 16 of 20 Races … With 16 of the 20 races complete so far this season, Allgaier Motorsports have accumulated one win, three top-five and six top-10 finishes, an average starting position of 17.2 and an average finishing position of 14.4 with 23-year-old Brent. Allgaier Motorsports Dodge Chargers have completed 1,662 of 1,952 laps contested (85.1 percent) to date.

· Points … With only four races remaining in the 2010 ARCA Racing Series season, Allgaier Motorsports’ driver Brent is currently 10th in driver points, 125 markers behind ninth-place driver Tim George Jr., and 435 behind fifth-place driver Mikey Kile.

· Meet the Driver … Fans can meet Brent when he participates in an ARCA Series driver autograph session on the frontstretch of Toledo Speedway from 12:00 – 1:15 PM on Sunday, September 12.

· Most Popular Driver … Visit ARCANation.com and vote for Brent as the 2010 National Speed Sport News Most Popular Driver.

· The Action … Toledo Speedway will host the next stop on the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards schedule with live timing and scoring and live audio coverage on www.arcaracing.com on Saturday, September 11 for both practice and qualifying beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT and the 200-lap, 100-mile race will begin on Sunday, September 12 at 2 p.m. EDT.

Quotes …

Owner Michael Allgaier on Toledo:

“Toledo brings back a lot of memories for me as a car owner because just two years ago not only did we win the race with Justin (Allgaier), but we won the Championship. I know this team is capable of running up front and with Dave (Leiner, crew chief) and Robb’s (Brent, driver) chemistry I hope they will be able to show just how good this team is.”

Crew Chief Dave Leiner, II on Toledo:

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Toledo this weekend. I feel we were robbed of a good finish in May due to circumstances that were out of our control. The Allgaier Motorsports short track program is strong and I feel we’ll be able to show that this weekend.”

“Even though I’m from Michigan, Toledo Speedway is one of the closest tracks to my hometown. I’m excited to run the Orchard Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram No. 36 in front of my friends and family. We run well here but the finishes don’t always show it due to typical short track racing. Hopefully we can stay out of trouble and put on a good show.”

With high expectations, reality showed them that there was a lot of work to do, when they took to the track for the open test session Friday before the one day race event began Saturday. When the team began the lone practice session on Saturday, they returned to form, staying in the top-5 during the entire session, finishing as the 2nd quickest. Hessert qualified 3rd with a time of 17.232, right behind teammate Dakoda Armstrong at 17.189.

Hessert lost a couple of spots when the green flag flew, falling back to 6th, but quickly got back to third, where he ran through the first 50 laps of the 200 lap event. He told crew chief John Monsam, “The car is really good. It is a little loose up off (the corner).” During the first caution on lap 54, Monsam told Hessert to stay out. As the laps continued to progress without a caution, Hessert began falling back through the field, to 12th by lap 96.

Hessert was getting more and more frustrated with his Dodge, as he continued to express displeasure about his race car over the radio. On lap 125, as the Hoosier tires gave up more and more grip, Hessert lost a lap. Fortunately for the #77, the caution flag came out on lap 145, giving the team an opportunity to pit for 4 tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. As the “lucky dog”, Hessert got his lap back to rejoin the other 10 cars on the lead lap.

Tom used the “lucky dog” to his advantage as he started picking off positions one-by-one. By lap 184, he had made it to 6th, where he was battling with teammate Armstrong for 5th. Five laps later, they were fighting for 4th. On lap 195, Hessert took over the 4th spot, where he would finish when the checkered flag flew.

The 4th place finish kept Hessert 4th in ARCA Racing Series championship points, and tightened up the battle for the top spot. Hessert is just 55 points behind the leader. After bringing his Dodge to the front stretch after the race, Hessert told the radio audience, listening live through arcaracing.com, “We had a good qualifying run and were good in the first part of the race. We didn’t expect the race to go green so long in the middle part of the race. Our tires gave up so much grip. We lost a lap and fortunately got the “lucky dog” and had a great finish. We had a solid run today. I am very proud of the whole team. We had a really good day.”

Next up for the Cunningham Motorsports teams is the annual trip to New Jersey Motorsports Park, in Millville, New Jersey for the Garden State ARCA 150 presented by American Red Cross. This trip will mark the third time that the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Mendards has raced at the track.

It will also be the third time that Hessert has raced on the track that he refers to as his “home track.” In his previous starts at the track he finished 8th in 2009, 19th in 2008 and has qualified 11th both times. The Cherry Hill, New Jersey native is excited about racing so close to home, in front of friends and family. “I always enjoy racing close to home so that many of my friends and family can come to the racetrack. It is nice to have that extra support from them,” said Hessert.

Tim George Jr.

Mooresville, N.C. (August 5, 2010)- Tim George Jr. is set to for battle in this Saturday’s ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards short-track event at Berlin Raceway located outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The 200-lap event at the .44-mile racing facility will be George’s second career-start at the Marne raceway.

This weekend’s event at Berlin Raceway brings the return of the excitement of short-track racing. The last time the New York, N.Y. native visited a track under a mile in length, the RCR team brought home a fourth-place finish at Mansfield Motorsports Park. Looking for a repeat performance, the team will roll out the same chassis, No. 152, for the weekend that garnered the July finish.

George, who sits eighth in ARCA Racing series points, revels in his short-track glory.

“I’m looking forward to going back to short-track racing again in the ARCA Racing Series,” said George. “Our last run on a short track was great for us in the RCR Development Chevrolet. Berlin is the shortest track we run, and is very unique having only three walls.”

George is 315 points away from catching Justin Marks for the ARCA Racing Series point lead.

While George has had one prior career-start at the shortest track on the ARCA schedule, his bout of bad luck has overshadowed the overall performance. In last year’s summer event, the 29-year old started 18th but, after a well-fought effort, a mid-race accident resulted in a 25th-place finish.

George will be meeting fans and signing autographs prior to the 200-lap event. He will sign autographs from 6:15-6:45 p.m. at Berlin Raceway on Saturday, July 7.

The ARCA Racing Network will cover all the on-track activity for the ARCA Racing Series from Marne, Michigan. Listen to live streaming audio and scoring of practice, qualifying at ARCAracing.com inside the ARCA Nation and live audio coverage presented by the BAS Racing Network. ARCA Racing Series track activity at Berlin starts on Saturday with practice from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell (All positions / 2 laps) starts at 5 p.m. The engines fire up for the ARCA 200 (200 laps / 88 miles) at 8:30 p.m. LIVE updates on Tim George Jr. all weekend by following @TimGeorgeJr on Twitter and TimGeorgeJrRacing on Facebook.

(July 30, 2010)- Frank Kimmel came to Pocono Raceway carrying momentum from his season-best finish last race at Mansfield Motorsports Park. That momentum certainly isn’t slowing down as Kimmel won his 42nd-career Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell this afternoon. He also took one step closer to the history books as he now stands only one pole away from tying the record for most ARCA Racing Series poles of all-time.

As the 36th car to make his qualifying run, Kimmel knew what he had to do to put his Ansell/Menards Ford on the pole. Pacing the 2.5-mile triangle-shaped tack in a time of of 54.108 seconds (166.334 mph), Kimmel put his No. 44 on top of the leader board with a lap over one-tenth of a second faster than second place, Mikey Kile.

“I am really excited for the entire team and for our sponsors Ansell and Menards,” said the nine-time ARCA Racing Series champion, Frank Kimmel. “It’s been a long time since we have been on the pole and the car was worthy of doing it. It was really fast all day, and it was just up to me to do my job and get the best lap I could. Thank goodness it was good enough; I think we will have a great racecar and we will race them real hard. Hopefully we will come out of here with a win too.”

Kimmel’s 42nd-career pole marks his first pole award since August of 2008 when he won the pole at the Illinois State Fairground’s dirt track in Springfield. It is also his first superspeedway pole since 2006 when he claimed the top-spot at Pocono Raceway.

Sitting on the pole at Pocono Raceway has proved to be lucky for Kimmel. The last two times he started from the top-spot he went on to claim the win. Kimmel looks to keep that streak alive in Saturday afternoon’s Weis Markets 125.

Starting alongside Kimmel on the front row for the Weis Markets 125 is Mikey Kile. Craig Goess, Brandon McReynolds and Donny Lia round out the top-five.

The green flag will drop for the Weis Markets 125 Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. EST with live television coverage on SPEED and live audio available on ARCARacing.com.

Weis Markets 125 Fast Facts

ARCA Racing Series Race No. 11, Weis Markets 125,

Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, Long Pond, Pennsylvania

Race Information: Event: Weis Markets 125, Saturday, July 31 at 3:00 p.m. Local Time Track: Pocono (Pa.) Raceway Qualifying: Friday, July 30, at 1:40 p.m. Local Time; Track Length: 2.5-mile paved-triangle.

Last Time Out; Mansfield Motorsports Park: For the second consecutive ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards race, Patrick Sheltra and his Jon Wolfe led-Sheltra Motorsports were bitten by bad luck as rear-end gremlins bit the Mooresville, North Carolina operation 92 laps into the 200-lap Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA 200 at Mansfield Motorsports Park. Sheltra had to settle for a 21st, place finish tying his inaugural Mansfield performance in 2009.

Returning Back To The Long Pond: The Indiantown, Florida native will make his ninth start at the popular triangle race course and aim for his third top-five finish this weekend. In his previous eight efforts, Sheltra has acquired a track best of third last June while mounting a strong fourth place outing in his recent trip to Long Pond in June. Qualifying though has not been a downfall for the popular driver as Sheltra has nailed six top-15 qualifying runs including a track best of sixth in the spring race of this year.

Moving Forward Again: For the seventh time in his ARCA career, 24-year old Patrick Sheltra will pilot a Toyota Camry in Saturday’s contest. Sheltra competed under the Japanese banner at Texas Motor Speedway in April where Sheltra revived himself from being collected in an early race incident to score a solid seventh place finish. Sheltra also piloted a Toyota Camry to two of his five top-five finishes of the year seven weeks ago at Pocono and a week later at Michigan International Speedway with a third-place outing. Additionally, the team ran a Camry at Iowa Speedway earlier this month before engine failure while locked in the top-10 resulted in a disappointing finish. Last season under the guidance of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship organization Germain Racing, Sheltra hoisted a Camry at Michigan International Speedway and at the season-finale at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway.

Tricky Triangle Fast Fact: Did you know that when Sheltra made his first career ARCA Racing Series start at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, he piloted the No. 99 FloraGanics / Brady Ranch Dodge Charger for renowned racing competitor Ken Schrader. Sheltra started 21st but finished 22nd after being swept into an incident just seven laps from the finish in June of 2006. From there, Sheltra has been able to rebound and post seven consecutive top-15 starting positions and five top-12 finishes including a track best of third last June (2009) in eight additional starts.

Jarrett Back On The Horn: Veteran spotter and former ARCA Racing Series driver Jason Jarrett will spot for Sheltra in Saturday’s Weis Markets 125. Jarrett, the son of two-time Daytona 500 champion and former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Dale Jarrett spotted for Sheltra in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in 2007. Jarrett also guided Sheltra to a stout fifth place run in the season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, a seventh place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in April and most recently a season-best second place finish a week later at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Jarrett, a two-time ARCA winner has 10 prior starts at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway with a career track best finish of second, twice in 2002 driving for ML Motorsports. Before concentrating on the No. 60 machine of Sheltra for race number 11, Jarrett will spot in the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Pocono for Germain Racing.

Mad Dash With The Gas: For the first time in Sheltra’s ARCA Racing Series Pocono (Pa.) Raceway history, the traditional summer event at the 2.5-mile triangle will not be a 200-mile, 80 lap event. With the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) making their first ever appearance to the Pocono mountains, track and series officials opted to shorten the race length and distance in order to give the fans a double-header feature. The teams will now compete for 50 laps or 125 miles following the conclusion of the Pocono Mountains 125 for the NCWTS.

Summer Stretch Kicks Off In Full Gear: After a leisure starting scheduling for the 2010 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards season, Sheltra and his competitors are gearing up for a grueling stretch of 10 races in 11 weeks which begins this weekend at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway. The teams will now battle a mixture of speedways, short tracks, two dirt tracks and one road course with all the roads leading to the American 200 at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway for the running of the ARCA Racing Series season finale on Saturday, October 9.

Closing In On A Record: While eclipsing his fifth top-five finish of the year at Michigan International Speedway last month, Patrick Sheltra holds a new record for the number of finishes inside the top-five for a full-season. In his previous three full-time seasons, Sheltra has posted a season high of four top-five finishes including in 2009. Sheltra personal best of nine top-10 finishes in 2008 is on the verge of being collapsed with Sheltra aiming for nine top-10s in 11 events in 2010. Sheltra is expected to set a new personal season stat record with 10 races remaining this year.

Point’s Check: 10 races down, 10 to go, Sheltra with the guidance of crew chief Jon Wolfe sits fourth in the ARCA Racing Series championship standings accumulating 2345 points and 125 markers behind current leader Justin Marks. The 24-year old Sheltra also controls the fourth position in the ARS car owner standings. After the most recent ARCA event at Mansfield Motorsports Park, Sheltra slipped to fourth in the championship chase after holding the top-spot for three consecutive races (Toledo, Michigan and Pocono) in a row after also sharing the top-spot with Parker Kligerman for one race (Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway) in 2009.

Nice Stats: By posting his eighth top-10 finish of the season at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) on June 11, Sheltra remains the only ARCA Racing Series driver to finish inside the top-10 in eight of the 10 races thus far in 2010. Sheltra kicked off his strongest start to an ARCA season with a fifth place performance at Daytona, a 10th place performance at Palm Beach, a fourth place run at Salem Speedway, a seventh place outing at Texas Motor Speedway, his season-best second at ‘Dega, an eighth at Toledo Speedway, a fourth place run at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway and most recently a third place outing in the Racing for Wildlife 200 at MIS for round number eight.

Patrick Sheltra ARCA Career At-A-Glance: Entering Pocono, Sheltra has 77 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem (Ind.) Speedway (April 2009). During his ARCA tenure, Sheltra has accumulated 15 top-fives and posted 30 top-10 finishes. A third place qualifying effort at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway (April 2009) and Michigan International Speedway (June 2010) is Sheltra’s best time trials effort to date. He has controlled the ARCA field six times for 148 laps.

Sheltra Motorsports, Pocono Raceway Pre-Race Quotes: Patrick Sheltra, driver / owner of the No. 60 Recycling Services / Ferguson Pipe Toyota Camry

On Mansfield Motorsports Park: “Mansfield has not been good to me the last two years. I can’t control that, I guess it’s just one of those tracks you just can’t ever seem to have any luck. The car was good and we were making some serious progress but as quick as I thought it was going to be a good night, it went the other way just as fast.”

On Pocono Raceway: “Pocono is such a great place to race. It’s one of those race tracks that’s not easy to drive but is a lot of fun. We had a super car there in June and I think we’ll have a stout hotrod this weekend. I have a gut feeling that this could be our weekend.”

On The Recent Bad Luck: “Everyone is going to have their problems throughout the year. Unfortunately, our setbacks have occurred in two straight races and we took a dive in points. We’re still focused as ever and committed to winning this championship. We’ll rebound and be better than ever.”

On The Shorter (50 Laps) At Pocono: “Really, it stinks. I don’t think 80 laps is enough and now we’re being cut to 50 laps. I’m all for bringing the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to a new venue, especially Pocono but it’s disappointing because I think you’ll see a different type of race than what we had in June because of the distance.”

On Points: “We’re down but no way near out. We still have a long way to go this year. 10 races left and anything can really happen. It’s been proven that one bad race can literally mean the difference of leading to sliding back down the pylon. No doubt that this championship race won’t be easy but I have a feeling it’s really going to boil down to luck and consistency.”

Sheltra Motorsports, Pocono Raceway Pre-Race Quotes: Jon Wolfe, crew chief of the No. 60 Recycling Services / Ferguson Pipe Toyota Camry

On Returning To Pocono Raceway This Weekend: “We had a great run earlier this year at Pocono and really felt like we had a shot to win. A flat tire got us behind and came up just short of a great comeback. We are taking the same Toyota that we ran in the first race, so we’re definitely pumped for this one.”

On Rebounding From Iowa Speedway and Mansfield Motorsports Park: “As racers we learn to deal with ups and downs, we keep our focus and forge ahead. We still have a mission to accomplish and we’ll continue to work hard towards reaching our goals.”

On Attacking A 50-Lap Race At Pocono Raceway: “I think the two things to focus on are one you will not have many opportunities to tune your car on pit stops, so it better be right from the start. Second, Patrick (Sheltra) will have to run hard from the drop of the green flag, no playing safe till the end.”

On Any Potential Track Changes From The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Event Run Before The Weis Markets 125: “The track surface will be a little different for a few laps at the start of our race, but once we lay down some Hoosier rubber the cars will react the same.”

On The Grueling Stretch Of 10 Races In 11 Weeks: “Our guys have been digging hard to prep cars for this stretch, the biggest hurdle is the fact that we will run such a diverse range of tracks over the next few months. We have to have four different types of cars prepared plus back ups for each style track. But also some of the more important preparation is mental, keeping our minds in focus and our families taken care of as they deal with us being gone for most of the time.”

Striving for the best finishes possible in all situations, Marks scored his fourth consecutive top-10 finish last weekend at Mansfield despite suffering from a cut right front tire on two separate occasions. After starting in the seventh position, Justin remained well within reach of the race leaders before an incident on lap 36 with Mikey Kile cut down his right front tire and forced him to pit and lose one lap. Though he continued to run lap times as fast, if not faster, than the leaders all night, another right front tire issue hindered him from gaining his laps back, relegating him to 10th place at the drop of the checkered flag.

Switching back to a Toyota Camry this weekend after utilizing the Dodge Charger at Mansfield Motorsports Park, Justin Marks holds a 50-point lead over second place Craig Goess in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards championship point standings. Nine-time ARCA Racing Series Champion Frank Kimmel lingers in third place, just 85 markers behind the Rocklin, California native.

The last outing proved to be a challenge for the Minnesota-based team, as they searched for the right setup in their Toyota Camry and mustered up a seventh place finish at the end of the day. Taking what they learned from previous runs, along with data from testing since the last event, the Mike Chaffee-lead team believes they’ll have a car to contend with this Saturday afternoon. In 2009, Win-Tron posted two top-fives with the No. 32 machine, including a second place finish with driver Matt Merrell behind the controls.

Coverage for this weekend’s events at Pocono begins with live practice coverage on ARCARacing.com through live timing and scoring, beginning at 10:15 am EST followed by qualifying beginning at 1:40 pm. SPEED Channel coverage of the Weis Markets 125 begins at 3:00 PM EST on Saturday, July 31st. You can also follow LIVE updates on Win-Tron Racing and Justin Marks all weekend by following @WinTronRacing on Twitter.

Justin will also be making off-track appearances near the Tricky Triangle this weekend, including an autograph session at PNC Field in Moosic, PA prior to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees game against the Norfolk Tides on Friday, beginning at 6:00 PM. The championship points leader will also participate in a Tweet-up at 11:00 am Saturday in the FanZone at Pocono Raceway, interacting with fans and media.

Raceway, he left the Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 200 with the ARCA championship point’s lead intact. Returning to Long Pond, Pennsylvania just seven weeks later, two mechanical hiccups have slipped the Indiantown, Florida native to fourth in the overall chase. Despite the unexpected setbacks Sheltra is poised to make a dent in Saturday’s Weis Markets 125 and re-ignite his Sheltra Motorsports team’s championship drive with 10 races remaining on the 2010 calendar.

Armed with the same No. 60 Recycling Services / Ferguson Pipe Toyota Camry that Sheltra boasted a impressive fourth place finish in the 50th ARCA race held at the racetrack on June 5 that optimizes a road course feel instead of an oval, Sheltra is banking on the team’s success in June to return in a double-header feature that will follow upon the completion of the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Pocono Mountains 125.

“It’s good to be going back to Pocono,” said Sheltra, who make his ninth career start at Pocono this weekend. “We had a super good Toyota Camry the last time we were here and I feel like with what we learned in the race and what additional information we acquired back at the shop, we should be able to put our year back on track and hopefully be fighting for our first win of the season.”

An engine failure at Iowa Speedway (July 10) and a rear-end failure in the most recent ARCA Racing Series event at Mansfield Motorsports Park (July 17) has obviously left Sheltra bruised, but the confident driver is vowing to keep his team’s morale high and not let the magic his team embraced in the first eighth races of the year completely disappear.

“I have a great team behind me and I cannot do it without all of them,” sounded Sheltra, who made his debut at the track nicknamed “The Tricky Triangle” in 2006 driving for the renowned Ken Schrader.

“We showed from the moment we unloaded at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February that we were here to beaten and were not going to go down without a fight. Yeah, the last two races have hurt us, but the circumstances were really out of our hands. You cannot predict what happened to us in the last two races, sometimes that’s just how the cookie crumbles. We’re definitely down but no way out. We’re remaining confident and have re-focused our efforts on the second half of the ARCA season were we plan to be making similar statements that we made in the first half. No question tough, we’re also hoping to raise the bar just a little bit more on the performance end that will enable us to grab that coveted championship at Rockingham in October.”

Traditionally, the summer trip for the ARCA Racing Series at Pocono presents an 80-lap contest but with the addition of the NCWTS to the track’s Saturday lineup, the ARCA race has been shortened to just 50 laps or 125 miles setting the stage for a fierce sprint at being crowned the winner of round 11 in 2010.

“It’s a short race,” offered Sheltra. “It’s going to be over quick. You cannot afford to have any errors anywhere. You have to be on your game as well as on your toes and stay out of any carnage and just hope that you won’t have any other downfalls fall your way. I’m used to short races on the dirt, so who knows, this just might play into our favor.”

Locked 125 markers behind point’s leader Justin Marks, Sheltra was quick to mention that there is still a long way to go this season. “We crossed the half-way mark of the year at Mansfield. We have a very diverse schedule coming up. From the big track of Pocono to our shortest track to Berlin (Mi.) Raceway to the road course at New Jersey Motorsports Park and even the two dirt races, anything could and probably will happen. Realistically, this championship is still up for grabs; we just want to have a shot at it.”

Sheltra Motorsports is led by veteran crew chief Jon Wolfe.

Cost-effective marketing partnerships are still available for the remainder of the 2010 ARCA Racing Series season. For additional information, please contact brandon@patricksheltra.com or marketing@patricksheltra.com.

Entering Pocono, Sheltra has 77 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards starts to his credit with one career victory at Salem (Ind.) Speedway (April 2009).

The Weis Markets 125 (50 laps / 125 miles) is the 11th of 20 events on the 2010 ARCA Racing Series schedule. The 51st ARCA race at Pocono Raceway is a two-day show. Practice begins Friday, July 30 with an hour and forty minute practice session planned from 10:15 a.m. – 11:55 a.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is set for later in the day slated to begin at 1:40 p.m. The event will take the green flag on Saturday, July 31 shortly after 3:00 p.m. The event will be televised live on SPEED with additional weekend (practice / qualifying) and race coverage broadcasted live through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com. All times are local.

(July 27, 2010) – Nine-time ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards champion Frank Kimmel knows what it takes to get around Pocono Raceway. As one of only three returning Pocono winners entered in Saturday’s race and coming off his best finish of the season at Mansfield Motorsports Park, Kimmel rolls into the “Tricky Triangle” looking to earn his fourth-career victory at the 2.5-mile track.

Kimmel comes to Pocono Raceway with a lot of confidence as his Ansell/Menards team has been on a roll. In the past eight events, Kimmel and team have jumped from 11th to third in the ARCA Racing Series championship standings, while earning seven top-10 and four top-five finishes.

In the June event at Pocono Raceway, Kimmel was certainly one of the cars to beat, qualifying on the outside front row and posting his best qualifying position since September 2008. Unfortunately luck was not on the side of the Ansell/Menards team as poor fuel mileage caught them one lap down on two separate occasions, before scavenging a fifth-place finish.

Kimmel and team are determined not to let fuel mileage keep them from victory lane again and come into the Weis Markets 125 with high expectations.

Frank Kimmel

“Our run at Pocono in June gives us a lot of confidence,” said Kimmel. “I thought our car was really good. Unfortunately, we had some pretty bad fuel mileage, but we’ve worked on that. Nick at Roush/Yates Engines has worked really hard at getting our fuel mileage up. We did much better at Michigan, so I think that we will be good at Pocono too. If the car runs that good, I think we should have an even better finish.”

Kimmel will hit the track for practice and Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell on Friday, July 30, with live coverage of the Weis Markets 125 airing on SPEED at 3:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, July 31. ARCARacing.com will host live audio coverage and live timing and scoring presented by ARCA Nation.

Frank Kimmel and the No. 44 Ansell/Menards Fast Facts

Pocono History: Kimmel is the active wins leader in the ARCA Racing Series at Pocono Raceway. After capturing his first victory at the 2.5-mile track in 1999, Kimmel went on to record two more victories in 2005 and 2006. In addition, Kimmel has earned three poles, 18 top-five finishes and 24 top-10 finishes at the “Tricky Triangle.”

In The Points: Kimmel’s continued his climb in the standings, after scoring a season-best third-place finish at Mansfield Speedway. The finish moved him up one position in the champion standings. Kimmel now sits in third place, only 85 markers behind the leader.

Did You Know: Frank is not the only champion driver in the Kimmel household, his son; Frank Kimmel II is currently leading the Super Stock points at Salem Speedway and has won championships at Salem Speedway the past two years in a row.

Chasing the Record Books: If you look at the ARCA Racing Series record books, there are not many lists that do not include the name Frank Kimmel. This season, Kimmel looks to break his own record of nine championships and win a record-setting 10th ARCA Racing Series Championship. His sights are also set on breaking the all-time ARCA win record. With 74 career ARCA victories, Frank is six wins shy of breaking the record held by Iggy Katona.

Follow Frank Kimmel: Want to know what happens when Kimmel is not behind the wheel of his Ansell/Menards Ford Fusion?
Chassis Info

No. 44 Ansell / Menards Ford Fusion: Chassis No. 320. Crew Chief, Bill Kimmel Jr., has chosen to run chassis No. 320, “Carrie” at Pocono Raceway. Kimmel used this chassis to qualify on the outside front row en route to a fifth-place finish.

Hessert and the #77 Cherry Hill Classic Cars Dodge head back to Pocono Raceway for the second visit of the 2010 season hoping to complete what they couldn’t finish in June. Early in the June race, Hessert had a throttle sticking and as a result of the necessary repairs fell down a couple of laps. After the carburetor change, the Cunningham Motorsports car raced well, finishing 19th.

When the #77 Dodge takes to the 2.5 mile track for the Weis Markets 125, the team looks to re-assert themselves as contenders for the championship. In the last 2 outings for the team, Tom posted his first ARCA Series victory at Iowa Speedway and a disappointing 8th place finish at Mansfield Motorsports Park, where Hessert thought he could make it two in a row. Going into the 50 lap event, Hessert finds himself tied for fourth in points, with Patrick Sheltra, 125 points out of first.

Tom Quotes

The ARCA Racing Series has 10 races coming up in the next 11 weeks. How are you planning for that?

“Hydration is the main key-just like most races. The heat doesn’t affect me a lot as long as I am well hydrated. We will have some hot races in August that will test all of my team.”

You have raced 5 previous times at Pocono Raceway, with 2 top-10 finishes. What are your thoughts about returning?

“I am really looking forward to returning to Pocono. We had such a good car in June at Pocono, but had to come down pit road a few extra times, which dropped our finishing spot. We had a top-3 car, but finished 19th, due to our problems. We are bringing the car that I won with at Iowa Speedway. I can’t wait to run this car.”

Twitter—Follow Cunningham Motorsports on their official Twitter page–@cunningham_race.

Racing Events–On-track activity begins Friday, July 30, with live timing and scoring and live audio coverage of practice from 10:15-11:55 am EST and qualifying at 1:40 pm EST available at www.ARCARacing.com.
Ready to take on the second half of the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/Max and Menards 2010 season, Armstrong and the#22 Ferrellgas team have 2 consecutive top-5 finishes in their last 2 outings, a fourth place at Iowa Speedway and the fifth spot at Mansfield Motorsports. The Weis Markets 125 will be Armstrong’s third race at the Pocono Raceway. In June, Armstrong finished 8th and had an 11th place finish in 2009.

Dakoda Quotes

The ARCA Racing Series has 10 races coming up in the next 11 weeks. How are you planning for that?

“Since I graduated from high school in June, where I was participating in training with our track team, I am no longer working out. I am going to start on a personal training program. With that many races in that short period of time, the variety of different tracks and the extreme heat that we have been experiencing, I am sure I will benefit from working out.”

You have been to Pocono Raceway 2 previous times, with an 8th place finish in June and an eleventh in 2009. What are your thoughts about returning?

“I love the track—it is a lot of fun. We are bringing a different car to Pocono than we had in June. It is the car that Parker (Kligerman) drove here last year. Since this race is only a 50 lap race, qualifying and starting up front will be key. We are expecting to run better than in June and are excited to be able to make up some points.”

Through practice, qualifying, and early in the race, the Miami Springs, FL native stayed at the top of the board and looked poised for another great finish in the Tim Richmond Memorial 200. Unfortunately Coulter and his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Rip It Energy Fuel Chevrolet were sent spinning in turn three by a lap down car, taking him from contention and ending his night early.

“When the 2010 schedule (ARCA) came out, I was so happy to see Mansfield (Motorsports Park) back on the list,” said Coulter. “It is a true racers track, and it provides some of the best action for not only the fans, but us drivers to. We had a great car all weekend and looked to improve on last years finish. Harold (Holly) and my team have worked their butts off providing me with quality equipment each week.”

Mansfield, being one of the rare “one-day shows” during the 2010 ARCA Racing Series, saw a jam packed day of racing Saturday, July 17, 2010. The day started with the series only practice session early in the afternoon. Coulter Motorsports crew chief Harold Holly used the session for minor changes to the car, as Coulter would spend the entire session jostling between first and second. As practice drew to a close, Coulter and his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Rip It Energy Fuel Chevrolet would post the second fastest time at 16.653 seconds at 108.089 MPH.

Menards Pole Qualifying quickly followed practice, and Coulter would take his time on the .5-mile oval 20 out of 32 cars present. He would turn a quick time of 16.512 seconds at a speed of 109.012 MPH, placing him second for the start of the Tim Richmond Memorial 200.

As night settled over the 32 car ARCA field, the green flag was waved and another short track battle was underway. Coulter would quickly lock on to the leaders bumper as the two would pull away from the rest of the field. They would stay bumper-to-bumper, occasionally working side by side through the coming laps and ensuing cautions. Coulter continued to lay down some of the fastest lap times as they worked their way in and out of lap down traffic.

It was this same lap down traffic that would tragically take Coulter from contention and end his night prematurely on lap 61 while in the second position. After being held up for several laps, Coulter ducked low entering turn three, and having almost completed the pass got chopped from the car above. Coulter would wind up spinning up the track collecting the car before hitting the wall. After coming to a stop and re-firing the car, another car would run into Coulter and his parked car.

Coulter Motorsports crew members worked feverishly to repair the extensive damage to the car, trying to get Coulter back out on track. They managed to get him out once before more hidden damage was found. Unfortunately, as team finished all the repairs, the checkered flag waved over the field ending the nights race. Coulter and his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Rip It Energy Fuel Chevrolet would be placed in the 22 spot, completing 81 of 200 laps.

“It is extremely unfortunate our night was ruined by another competitor who was multiple laps down,” exclaimed Coulter. “We had an amazing racecar all day long and I was just pacing myself to be there at the end. I believe in bad luck and stupidity, and I believe we were the victim of the latter tonight.”

The ARCA Racing Series returns to action in two weeks with the Weis Markets 125 at Pocono Raceway. On-track activity begins on Friday, July 30, with live timing and scoring and live audio coverage of practice and Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell available at ARCARacing.com. The 50-lap, 125-mile race goes green at 3 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, July 31, with live television coverage provided by SPEED.
