(January 19, 2012) – Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) announced today that it has signed a multi-year agreement with Monster Energy Company as primary sponsor of the team’s No. 54 Monster Energy Camry in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Team owner Kyle Busch, the all-time race winning driver in the history of the NASCAR Nationwide Series, will share driving duties with his brother Kurt Busch, the 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion.

Kyle will drive the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway and the subsequent four races through California before splitting the balance of the season with Kurt. The team’s goal will be to capture an Owner’s Championship in its inaugural race season, similar to the Owner’s Championship accomplished by KBM in its first full season in the Camping World Truck Series in 2010.

The development of this duo as teammates fits perfectly for primary team sponsor Monster Energy, who foregoes traditional forms of advertising and instead seeks brand exposure through the use of Extreme Athletes. With Monster Energy looking for increased presence across the NASCAR fan base, the company identified the Busch brothers as the drivers that best fit its family of Monster Energy Team Athletes.

“Monster Energy has always stood for competing and winning no matter what the sport,” said Monster Energy Company President, Mark Hall. “To make this happen, we’ve always sought out the most determined, fearless and committed athletes for the Monster team. With the Busch brothers sharing the wheel of the Kyle Busch Motorsports Monster Energy Camry, we have every reason to believe we have drivers capable of running up front every weekend.”

Kyle Busch (L) and Kurt Busch (R) drivers of the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry For Kyle Busch Motosports In The NASCAR Nationwide Series For 2012

KBM team owner and driver Kyle Busch explained, “Since debuting in NASCAR, Kyle Busch Motorsports has had the goal to add a championship-caliber Nationwide Series team to our organization. With today’s announcement of Monster Energy as primary sponsor and my brother Kurt as the second driver, we’ve accomplished that goal. The Monster Energy team of athletes consists of champion performers united by a desire to be the best. Kurt and I share that same desire and will settle for nothing less than adding a NASCAR Championship to the long list of achievements for one of the strongest brands in the world.”

In 222 starts over nine seasons, Kyle has proven himself to be the winningest competitor in the history of the NASCAR Nationwide Series. In addition to his 51 career wins, Kyle has secured 120 top-five finishes, 149 top-10 finishes and 23 poles. In 2010, Kyle made Series history with a record 13-win race season. Past NASCAR Nationwide Series Championships for Kyle include a Driver’s Championship in 2009 and Owner’s Championships in both 2008 and 2010 — all with Kyle’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team owner Joe Gibbs Racing.

Kurt has 12 career starts, three poles and three wins in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with his last Series victory coming at Watkins Glen in 2011. Kurt will spend additional seat time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, beginning with the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway through a part-time commitment to Phoenix Racing and the No. 1 NASCAR Nationwide Series entry.

“Kyle has done an impressive job in building this race team and I’m proud to be a part of it,” Kurt said. “He won a Truck Series Owner’s Championship in his first year and his team has kept on winning ever since. Now, it’s moving into the Nationwide Series, where the bar will remain high. His expectations are the same as mine, and we know each other better than anyone. We’re driven to win, and with Monster Energy driving us, we’ll be a tough team to beat.”

To complement the driver lineup, and ensure a strong competitive advantage, KBM brings industry veteran and winning crew chief Mike Beam into the fold as the No. 54 Monster Energy Camry team leader. Beam is a long-time fixture in NASCAR who has accomplished career victories across all three major touring series. At an early age, Mike became a successful contributor towards a variety of competitive racing organizations including Petty Enterprises and Roush Fenway Racing.

Most recently Beam obtained the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner’s Championship. Through 48 career starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series as a crew chief, Beam has accomplished 10 wins, 32 top-five finishes, 37 top-10 finishes and eight poles. Mike is also a past Late Model Sportsman (now the NASCAR Nationwide Series) National Championship winner with driver Butch Lindley so working towards an Owner’s Championship with Kyle Busch Motorsports is very familiar territory.

“I am excited to join the KBM team and to have Monster Energy as our sponsor,” stated Beam. “Kyle and Kurt are two of the best drivers in NASCAR. To contend for the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner’s Championship with Monster Energy and to have all of the elements in place that make a great team, you can not help being excited to be a part of this.”

Kyle Busch Motorsports and Monster Energy, two of the fastest-growing brands in their respective industries, have positioned themselves together for great success in 2012.

About Kyle Busch Motorsports

Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) has quickly established itself as one of the most successful teams in all of NASCAR, capturing the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Owner’s Championship in its inaugural season and 16 Truck Series victories over its first two seasons. 2012 marks the team’s debut in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with team owner and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series star Kyle Busch sharing the driving duties behind the wheel of the No. 54 Monster Energy Camry with his brother Kurt, the 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. Veteran driver Jason Leffler joins the KBM driver lineup and will be the primary pilot of the No. 18 Tundra in the Truck Series.

KBM prepares a fleet of race-winning Toyotas out of its 77,000-square-foot facility in Mooresville, N.C. Pending LEED certification the facility’s state-of-the art equipment and innovative green initiatives make it unmatched among its peers.
FORD RACING NOTES AND QUOTES

Ford 300,

November 19, 2011

Homestead-Miami Speedway

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP?

“It is unbelievable. There are a lot of people that have worked really hard for this. My family has sacrificed a lot. Jack Roush and all these guys on our team, they were with us when we were struggling and they never gave up last year. Everybody at Ford Racing, Blackwell Angus Beef and Cargill, everybody has worked really hard and rallied together to be a team effort. Our cars back at the shop are phenomenal and all the guys that work hard there. Everybody at Roush Yates engines. It is a total team effort and it means the world to bring this championship to Jack and be a little bit of the history that he has in this sport. For Ford to get the manufacturers and Jack to get the owners it was for sure a huge team effort. Mike Kelley never let us down. He rallied us, even when we weren’t good and I would get a little mad out there on the race track he straightened me up and helped us keep digging.”

MIKE KELLEY, crew chief No. 6 Ford Mustang – WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE THE CREW CHIEF OF THE 2011 NATIONWIDE CHAMIPIONS?

“Just like Ricky said, it means a lot. I heard Carl say the other day that it isn’t about the trophy that you get but the journey you take to get there. I couldn’t say that anymore for working with Ricky the last 16 or 18 months together. We had tough times last year and it was documented very well. Anyone could have walked away. Jack could have turned his back on him, Ford could have and our guys could have. There were a lot of tough days and grim nights back at the shop. Nobody did though. I am so proud of my guys and Jack and Ford for sticking behind Ricky and seeing it through. To come through what we did all last year and during the off season we really put our heads down and we weren’t picked to be the favorite and that is probably what helped us the most. We were kind of overshadowed by the Elliott Sadler’s and the Allgaier’s and Sorensen’s and that kinda gave us a fight and desire back at the shop to make sure we came out strong. It was a total team effort. It wasn’t me. I have a great engineering staff and we moved our shop. Jack let us move down to the Cup shop in Concord and that was a big plus for us. The cars that we get are second to none out there and the engines are second to none. We never quit. We had bad days at the beginning of the year and we learned as a group on fuel mileage and strategy. I feel like we gave up a couple wins based on that. I am proud of the effort of this team during the hard times. We dug in there and finished off strong.”

JACK ROUSH, owner, No. 6 Ford Mustang – WE MADE HISTORY TONIGHT AS A TEAM WON THE DRIVER AND OWNERS CHAMPIONSHIP WITH TWO DIFFERENT PRIMARY DRIVERS. CONGRATULATIONS JACK.

“When Carl won his Nationwide championship in 2007 I didn’t win the owners championship and I didn’t know what I did wrong. I didn’t do anything more wrong than I did right this time. It is an honor given to team owners that is really at the mercy of the efforts of the crew chiefs and drivers and the crew. I am glad to be sharing the honors with Carl and with Ricky and with Mike Beam and Mike Kelley. One thing I want to say, and I have been doing this for my 24th year and this is my third Nationwide championship that I have helped a driver win, but Ricky sits here tonight because of the sacrifice and dedication of a great family.

Without his mother and father, I am looking at his mom across the room here, without their sacrifice and dedication and determination to see to it Ricky had everything he needed to develop into the driver he has become it wouldn’t happen. People like myself or Tony Stewart or other owners that have the race cars would never find a Ricky Stenhouse without the family doing all they have to do and the dark days before it really goes public. Mike Kelley did a great job this year, Mike Beam did a great job behind the scenes. Carl Edwards provided great leadership from a driver point of view. Trevor Bayne did a great job challenging Ricky in some ways and supporting him in others. It has been a great team effort that we are celebrating tonight but I am especially thankful and respectful of the sacrifice of the whole Stenhouse family that they made to get Ricky where he is.”

STENHOUSE CONTINUED – IS THE THE BIGGEST THING TO HAPPEN TO OLIVE BRANCH?

“I would say so. It is going to be cool. I plan on taking the trophy when I got to the Christmas parade as Grand Marshal December 3rd. It will be a good homecoming for sure. There are a lot of people back there that are really supportive of what we are doing. The whole school system and everybody down there. It is really cool to have a community behind you like that.”

YOU WERE IN THE TOP FIVE IN POINTS ALL YEAR BEFORE MOVING TO FIRST AND STAYING THERE. WAS THERE A MOMENTUM SHIFT AFTER YOU GOT TO FIRST?

“We look at it as one whole year. We got the lead a couple times and lost it but that last time we got it we were bound and determined not to give it back. We wanted to seal it up before coming to Homestead. We did the best job we could and it was just a whole year of total team effort and really working to not make mistake on pit road and not making mistakes as a driver and crew chief. I think at the end of the year we really limited our mistakes we made in our first half the year that gave those points leads back to other people. That was the main thing we focused on.”

WHAT WAS THE ONE BIGGEST LESSON YOU LEARNED FROM JACK DURING THE TROUBLES LAST YEAR?

“The one biggest thing I think I learned from everything Jack has done for me is that he cares about me as a person and really wanted me to succeed. If he didn’t care he wouldn’t put me in the body shop. That is one thing I learned from my dad. He was tough on my growing up but it was always for a reason. Jack has been an awesome team owner. He has done a lot of great things in NASCAR and I am glad to be a part of this one little thing. He has been doing it a long time. He has his ways of doing things and you have to look at the positives from it. I think that was the biggest thing I learned.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED – WHAT WAS IT YOU SAW IN RICKY THAT MADE YOU INSIST ON PUSHING HIM TO THE POINT TO SEE IF HE HAD WHAT IT TOOK?

“Ricky was extraordinarily talented. Every challenge we gave him with a new race track or problem with a car as we changed the car Ricky was bright and quick and talented in meeting those challenges. The thing that was always there when you would reach a situation when it was clear that you could go down this or that path and Mike Beam or Mike Kelley or myself decided to go down a certain path Ricky always went along with it. He never called his dad for support and said we were being to hard on him, he just went along with the program. That is what a rookie needs to do. He needs to go with the program with the people looking after him and our group had his interests in mind.

The other thing was that he was just driven to be competitive to the extent of self destruction to start with. It is much easier to temper that and deal with that that it is for someone that doesn’t want it as bad as those next to them. They couldn’t realize the ultimate prize. Ricky wanted it bad and he raised himself to be a race car driver. This was his opportunity and he tried to hang on to it too tight to start with and couldn’t realize the success there for him but very quickly we got over that.”

RICKY STENHOUSE CONTINUED – THIS IS THE FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP UNDER THE NEW FORMAT. YOU ARE THE CHAMPION WITH TWO WINS. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT BEING THE FIRST CHAMPION IN THIS NEW FORMAT?

“It means just as much. We race week in and week out with those guys. We gave them a run for their money here tonight. Ultimately my goal is to go out there and win the drivers and owners championship. We finished third in the owners championship so we ran really strong all year. We beat Carl, we beat Brad, we passed those guys and raced Kyle Busch. I think as a race team and me as a driver I felt like we are just as good as those guys. I think that racing up there and beating them definitely makes this championship worth it.”

YOU FINISHED STRONG.

“This race track is one of my favorites. I wish we came here twice at least. Last year was the first year here. I had a lot of fun and this is just my style of race track. You can drive it in hard, let it slide up to the wall and get back in the gas and really hang it out, it just reminds me a lot of sprint car racing. Last year, we finished fourth and ran really strong and this year we just came up one spot short and maybe one corner short, but, man, it was fun racing those guys. We were sideways, turning right, trying to keep it off the fence, getting into the fence every now and then, and to race up there with Carl, Brad, Denny, Clint Bowyer, Elliott Sadler, they’re some of the best in the business and to be up there racing with them is fun.”

AT WHAT POINT DID YOU KNOW THE TITLE WAS YOURS AND DID IT CHANGE YOUR PHILOSOPHY?

“We were going 100 percent there from the start. It’s tough to get me to back down any. I’m not good at riding around, so I’m not sure what lap it was, Mike Kelley came over and told me we were good to go, that we had won the championship, but we still stayed focused and I think I drove 110 percent after that, so that was the only thing that really changed.”

WAS THERE A TURNING POINT FOR YOU AND YOUR TEAM THIS SEASON?

“I can think of two. Early in the year when we led laps at Bristol, ran up there with Kyle and I was kind of playing around with him the whole time. Talking to Kyle after he was like, ‘Man, you had the best car.’ We made a mistake on fuel mileage and we made a mistake as a race team getting lined up and we got caught two laps down, so I think we rallied together and we worked on our fuel mileage with Ford and everybody at Roush Fenway and Roush Yates, worked on our fuel mileage, and we kind of got a direction there and that really helped us. And then Indy when we led 190 laps and we came up a couple spots short. That was pretty tough for us, but we were bound and determined to win some more races and really run up front and dig hard, and Mike was the one that kind of rallied everybody together and kept everybody digging.”

MIKE KELLEY CONTINUED –

“I kind of agree with him. Early on in the year we kind of made a few mistakes and left a lot of points on the table, a lot more than we ever thought, and I really feel if we would have been a little smarter, a little better earlier in the year, we’d have been right in the middle of that owner’s championship, and that was our goal from the beginning. But the thing that meant a lot to me is we sat down in January and we circled a bunch of dates on the calendar for Ricky’s experience level on the road course races, we kind of had a goal, we said we’d have to be 25 points in the lead coming into the last two road course race swing knowing that Elliott had a lot of experience and Ricky had never been to Watkins Glen.

We knew we’d take our lumps there, but if we could get out of there, we didn’t care if it was a one-point lead or a two-point lead, we would tell ourselves on the way home that we came out of there with the lead and now it was ours to hold on to the last 10 races of the year, kind of really laid into Ricky’s schedule – a bunch of short tracks thrown in there with some mile-and-a-halfs that the cars have been good on.

When we made it through those two road course races, I don’t know if it was six, seven, eight points or something, we came out of there with the lead and I remember looking at him on the plane and I told him, ‘Picture that we came in here five points behind and we actually came out six points ahead and we’ll look at it that way, instead of saying we lost 10 today.’ We got the guys rallied back at the shop and said, ‘We’ve only got to turn left from here on in and Ricky can do that as good as anybody out there.’ Lack of experience or not, he’s as talented as anyone I’ve ever seen behind the wheel.”

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. CONTINUED – AT THE START OF THE YEAR MANY PEOPLE DIDN’T HAVE YOU IN THEIR TOP FIVE. DID YOU USE THAT AS MOTIVATION?

“We definitely used that as motivation. We felt like at the end of last year, Mike Kelley and I were sitting down at the banquet watching Brad get the trophy, we told each other right there that as strong as we were running at the end of the year, running up in the top five with the Cup guys, that we were going for that championship and that was before they ever changed the point system. Obviously, they changed the point system and we still weren’t in sight to do that from the media’s perspective, but we felt like as a race team we could do that, I felt like as a driver I was just as good as anybody else out there, and if we put everything together, then we knew we had a shot at this championship. But it was just fun. You all have been doing this a long time and I’m just getting started, so it was good to come out here and get this championship.”

11th – Trevor Bayne

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. – No. 6 Blackwell Angus / Cargill Ford Mustang – CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY LANE INTERVIEW – WHAT ABOUT THE LAST TWO OR THREE
LAPS?

“We sure tried. That was all I had. I was really hoping for one more lap there, but Brad did a good job. It was fun racing Carl and those guys. I got a little loose there coming off four or I thought we could have got him, but the Blackwell Angus Beef and Cargill Mustang did its job at Ford Championship Weekend – Nationwide Insurance – this is a dream come true.”

WHAT A CINDERELLA STORY. WHAT MADE IT HAPPEN FOR YOU?

“I think first off is just relying on God. We were down in the dumps and we relied on Him and He pulled us through. That’s why we have to give him the praise for the nightsthat we’re on top. It was just a lot of hard work by all these guys – Jack Roush, Ford Racing, everybody at Blackwell Angus Beef and Cargill – this crew right here, they didn’t give up on me. They were with us all through last year and I’m just glad to be here.”

ONE HERO IS JEFF GORDON AND THE OTHER IS YOUR DAD. WHAT DOES THIS DAY MEAN TO YOU AND YOUR DAD?

“It means a lot. My family sacrificed everything they had. My sister didn’t quite get everything that she’s ever wanted. We were racing as much as we and to do that for them, he taught me hard work and to never give up. I wish my granddad was here. He helped us out a lot through the go-kart days and worked on our cars. We had a lot of fun doing that. I wish he was here, but this is an awesome night.”

TALK ABOUT YOUR NIGHT

“This is just awesome what this team has done, what Jack Roush has done and everybody at Ford Racing and Nationwide Insurance for giving us this great series to run in and all the fans that come out to watch every week. We really appreciate that, especially the ones that support us.”

HOW GOOD WAS THIS CAR TONIGHT?

“Man, this race car was awesome. It was a little tight at the beginning but we worked on it. We knocked the wall down in three and four but it seemed to maybe help it a little bit. Mike Kelly did an awesome job and we had awesome pit stops. Everybody on this Blackwell Angus Beef and Cargill Mustang worked their butts off. We had a late race charge there. I didn’t want to see that caution when we were leading but those always come out it seems like. That last restart I was giving it all I had. If I could have got a little better restart and not lost as much ground to Carl and Brad I think we could have had it. It was a great race, fun hopefully the fans enjoyed it. We do this for them.”

GO BACK A YEAR OR SO AGO AND JACK GIVES YOU A CALL TO DRIVE THE NATIONWIDE SERIES. YOU HAD PROBLEMS KEEPING THE CAR OFF THE WALL. HE PUT YOU TO WORK REBUILDING THE CARS. WHAT KIND OF LESSONS DID YOU LEARN FROM JACK ROUSH?

“The same lessons I learned from my Dad. He just helped me remember them. You have to work hard, stay focused and be patient and determined. Jack has his way of doing things and it has definitely worked out.”

JAMIE ALLISON, Director, Ford Racing –

“Wow. What a great moment. Unbelievable to have this championship. It is what we all race for and is a proud moment for Ford and Ford fans everywhere. We got one championship tonight and we have one more to go tomorrow.”

CARL EDWARDS – No. 60 Fastenal Ford Mustang – PIT ROAD INTERVIEW

“First, congrats to Ricky. That’s huge for Ricky to win the driver’s championship. I’m so proud of my guys. Fastenal, Ford, Valvoline, NextGen oil, Wiley X, all the fans that came out here. It’s a great weekend for Ford. I’m proud to be driving a Ford. I wanted to get Brad there at the end. We were racing hard and I got up on his bumper there and I was hoping he’d get loose, but I got tight. He did a really good job driving. It was just fun racing. This is really neat and Denny raced me so clean. That was a ton of fun.”

RICKY GOT YOU AS WELL.

“That was funny. I thought I finished second. Ricky got me too, but he deserves it. He’s a great guy and it was just a fun race. I’m excited for tomorrow. Tomorrow in that Aflac Ford is gonna be a blast.”

TAKE US THROUGH TONIGHT.

“First, congratulations to Ricky and all the Blackwell Angus Beef folks. Ricky has come so far and I think he’s gonna be a champion in a bunch of levels of this sport. That was huge and my guys have done a great job all year – eight wins and we’re so proud to have Fastenal on board. Ford has been great. It’s Ford Championship Weekend and we wrapped up the drivers and the owners and that was huge. Valvoline and NextGen, Wiley X and all
these fans that are here, this is cool. It did get pretty exciting there at the end. I had to remember, ‘Hey, don’t screw this up,’ and Brad started blocking a little bit and I thought, ‘Well, if he’s gonna block, I’m gonna bump him,’ and then I bumped him and it helped him and hurt me. I didn’t do a good job of that, but he did a great job racing. I thought everybody raced as aggressively as I’ve seen in a long time and everybody was real respectful. It was really fun.”

TREVOR BAYNE – No. 16 Ford Mustang Ford (Finished ) –

“Well, we had a really fast race car, we just had one run where we missed it a little bit. Everyone moved to my lane and we were so fast at the top but everyone saw that and they all moved up in front of me and I hadnowhere to gain on them. We were just average at the end there. We lost a right rear tire and it got us in the wall. I don’t know if it went down first or getting in the wall took it down. It is disappointing because I wanted to be out there with him doing so me burnouts. Next year hopefully we can be out there. I am really pumped for Ricky and Carl. To win championships is a big deal. It shows consistency and it shows you can be there all the time. They were fast. It is a tough series and for them to win is huge especially for Ricky. This is an awesome deal for him. I am really excited for him.

YOU’VE GOT THE 500, HE’S GOT THE NATIONWIDE TITLE. WHO HAS THE TRUMP CARD?

“I don’t know man. I don’t know if you can compare apples and oranges, that is kinda what that is. I am just excited for both of us to have seasons like this and I am really proud to be a part of this Roush Fenway group.”

CARL EDWARDS PRESS CONFERENCE –

“It was huge for us. That 18 team, they’ve been unbelievable and for us to have closed in all the points we did the last couple of months, I think it was 50 or so points – something like that – my guys are very excited about this. That was our mission tonight to be that 18 and to win this owner’s
championship. I just can’t say enough things about Jack Roush and Ford and everything they’ve done with this Nationwide program. Ricky Stenhouse and Trevor Bayne have been huge helps to me as a driver. They’ve obviously been amazing on the race track and I’m so happy for Ricky for his accomplishment and for us to have won that owner’s championship makes it really neat for all the guys back at the shop and it’s something they can be proud of, so that was good. The race was a blast. That was just really fun. There at the end I learned a little bit about the different lines on the restarts and things like that. Brad did a really good job. He blocked for everything he had. I bumped him, but not hard enough, and I got tight and then Ricky got by me. I thought Ricky might get him. I don’t know about you guys, but coming into turn three that last lap I thought, ‘Maybe these guys will bump into each other and we’ll still win this thing,’ so I don’t know if it looked that exciting from the grandstands or TV, but it was real exciting for me and that’s a good way to spend a Saturday night before tomorrow’s race. It was a blast.”

IS THIS BITTERSWEET FOR YOU AS A FULL-TIME NATIONWIDE DRIVER?

“Mike Beam and all the guys on this Fastenal team, I think it’s eight races we won this year, we got more poles than anyone, we led close to 2,000 laps. It’s been a blast. It’s really fun and I’m gonna miss it a lot. I’ll probably run some races. There’s no telling, I might run again full-time here in a year or two, who knows? I really do enjoy this and years like this are a lot of fun and it’s from a lot of hard work. We were not this fast a
year-and-a-half ago or so when we were really struggling. They had to really go to work on the engines and the cars and moving the shop, so
it’s been a lot of fun. It’s been something I think has helped me in huge ways to be in the place we’re in in the Cup Series.”

DID THIS FULFILL YOU HOPE FOR A PROPER PREPARATION FOR TOMORROW?

“Yes. This was very good practice for me. It was really good practice, especially there was one point where the 18 was in front of us and I had to really bear down and go for it there on those restarts. That was neat. We also made a lot of adjustments on the car. I got to feel adjustments and feel the track change a little bit as the sun went down, and I was reminded of all the things you have to be careful of not to mess up, so I think it’s great practice. I didn’t hurt myself or break an arm or anything, so that was good. I had a good time. I actually did think about, ‘If I win this thing should I do a backflip or not?’ That would be unreal.”

WHEN RICKY DIDN’T MAKE THE RACE AT NASHVILLE LAST YEAR DID YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS ABOUT HIS ABILITY OR HIS ABILITY TO SURVIVE WHATEVER JACK HAD IN STORE FOR HIM?

“I didn’t know if he’d be able to survive Jack. I mean, Jack was on Ricky. He was not building Ricky up. He was challenging Ricky everyday and I think Ricky has shown everyone, myself included, how good heis. There are guys, when I talk about Ricky with the Cup drivers, they know when he comes up there he’s gonna be a force to be reckoned with. There is no doubt that Ricky Stenhouse will win tons of Cup races and probably championships. He’s that good.”

CARL EDWARDS CONTINUED — HOW DOES A GUY GO FROM WHERE HE WAS 18 MONTHS AGO TO WHERE HE IS NOW?

“I think the cars are better, first of all, so he was not only being thrown to the wolves, I mean, Ricky is a sprint car driver and he was really thrown in this thing head first ata time when I don’t think I was winning any Nationwide races. If I was, it was by the smallest of margins and I’ve been doing this for five years or something when he came in, so the thing about Ricky though is I’ve never personally seen a bigger example of a guy who
just all he had to do was slow down a little bit and he’s as fast as anyone. I think two things coincided, Ricky learned to get the car set up like he wanted to run these long races, and the cars got a little better and however he hung onto his job was awesome and here he is. I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s always been a good, solid person through the whole thing. He’s just a good guy.”

DID YOU COME CLOSE TO GETTING CARRIED AWAY WITH BRAD?

“I thought about it a little bit, but we kept it clean. That was just good racing. It was really fun. That thing could have gone any number of ways, whether we had a restart or didn’t have a restart. He did his job and that was just a good race. He drove his heart out.”

DO YOU THINK GOING THROUGH THAT FIRE HELPED MAKE HIM INTO A CHAMPION?

“Right, all of us in this room, it’s not your successes that make you better, usually, those are nice, but it’s the tough times that make you strong and teach you the biggest lessons. Ricky, I can’t tell you. I wish I had some of those meetings on audio tape or video because he was getting it from all angles and he just kept getting better and kept working and turned this whole thing around. It’s amazing.”

THE RACE STARTS LATE TOMORROW. WHAT WILL YOU DO TOMORROW?

“I’ll do normal stuff tomorrow, nothing big. I’ll just have a regular day before the race. Bob and I will talk a little bit tonight like we
always do about what our plan is and there’s no change. We’ve got a lot of sponsor folks coming. Paul Amos from Aflac is gonna be here
and we’re excited to have him here. We’ve renewed our partnership for a multi-year deal, so that’s really exciting and a bunch of people from Ford are gonna be here, which is really neat. I think it’s cool that Edsel Ford himself has been here this weekend supporting everybody, but, for me, there’s nothing different – no big appearances or anything like that.”

WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO STOP NATIONWIDE FULL-TIME?

“Because it’s been so good for me I am a little bit nervous that it might throw me off a little bit, but I think a big test for me was this year at Sonoma. We had the road course race in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin and our car was no good in Friday’s practice and we made the call and Fastenal was okay with us not going to Elkhart Lake. I was really nervous that would throw me off. I’d been doing that for six years or something traveling that day and not practicing at Sonoma, but it turned out to be our best Sonoma Cup race that we ever had with me staying there and focusing on the Cup car. As much as I learn from running the Nationwide Series, I believe that sometimes, at this point in my career, it takes a little extra energy and it might be better to focus on my Cup car. But if it’s not working, I’ll be back here racing. I’ll find something to drive I hope.”

WERE YOU AT THE MEETING WHEN RICKY CAME IN HIS WORK GOGGLES?

“No, what’s the story there?”

HE SHOWED UP IN WORK GOGGLES TO WORK ON THE CARS.

“Jack’s boot camp. No, I hadn’t heard that story. All I heard for it seemed like months it was almost like Jack turned it into a game. I mean, you bring up Ricky and he’s like, ‘Yep, we’re running him into the ground. We’re not letting up on him.’ It was like Jack made it his mission that he was gonna go with Ricky to the end of the earth and it wasn’t gonna be fun for Ricky until he turned it around, so it worked out, I guess.”

DID HE EVER DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT WITH YOU?

“Yes. My dad came here tonight. He’s here. Jack and my dad are a lot alike. My dad, when I was a little kid, everything would be going well, the day would be going great, and he’d go, ‘I haven’t beaten you for a while have I?’ Just to remind me like, ‘Hey.’ I’ve been like, ‘Yeah, I’ve been pretty good. Everything is good. I’m gonna keep it that way.’ But Jack is the same way. He pulled me in after one wreck that I caused and he asked me to come in and have a meeting with him. I was under the impression this was gonna be a ‘don’t worry, everything is gonna be great, we’re working really hard and you’re a good driver’ meeting. And he sat me down and said, ‘I just want to make sure you feel bad enough about what you’ve done,’ and he proceeded to tell me all the things I screwed up. He’s not afraid to break you down real far and make you look at all the things you’re doing, and you have to be strong to put up with that and if you’re not, it’s been my observation that he doesn’t have much use for you. You’ve got to be able to take what he’s able to dish out.”

WHAT ABOUT TONIGHT?

“I think tonight was really good practice for tomorrow, but I’ve been doing this Saturday-Sunday thing long enough to know that it doesn’t all transfer. You can really feel like, ‘Oh, hey, I’ve got some things figured out,’ and all of a sudden the race will change, the track conditions will change just a little bit and those Cup cars, they’re so much faster down the straightaway and there’s a lot more accelerating and braking involved to get through the center of the corner that I always have to make sure to switch hats figuratively and make sure I’m driving a Cup car and not to rely
on what we’ve done on Saturday, so I’ve only learned a couple of things that I think will be helpful tomorrow.”

Carl Edwards on racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“I love racing the Nationwide cars at Homestead. This race is very special because it presents two great opportunities for our team. One, we can get our ninth victory of the season which would be the best season we have ever had in the Nationwide Series. Second, to win the Nationwide Owner’s Championship. We have battled back from a huge point’s deficit and we are virtually tied with the No. 18 team going into Homestead. We know they are going to be tough. We are going there to battle it out on the race track and it will be fun. It will also be a great warm-up for Sunday’s race. It will hopefully be a successful ending for an amazing season with Mike Beam and the entire Fastenal team.”

Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“We have had an amazing season so far and would like to top it off by winning the Owner’s Championship for Jack. We are bringing the same chassis that we won with at Charlotte. This race starts mid-afternoon and ends as the sun is going down so we will need to make the proper adjustments to keep our No. 60 Fastenal Mustang in front of the No. 18 car to be able to clinch the Owner’s Championship.”

FAST FACTS

- So far in 2011, Edwards has eight wins, 22 top-five, and 26 top-10 finishes.

- Edwards captured his 37th career Nationwide win at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

- Edwards has captured seven Coors Light pole awards so far in the 2011 Nationwide Series season.

- Only one point separates the points leading No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and the No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford in the NASCAR Nationwide Series owner’s standings.

- Only one finish guarantees the No. 18 a championship – a victory in Saturday’s Ford 300.

- Both teams have eight wins on the season, but the No. 60 has nine second-place finishes (the No. 18 has five) – giving the No. 60 the tie-breaker.

- The No. 60 would win the owner’s title by gaining one or more points on the No. 18 on Saturday.

- Edwards’ average finish is 5.7 at Homestead.

Carl Edwards on racing at Phoenix International Raceway:

“This Nationwide race is about two things. One, it is fun and I love racing at Phoenix. Two, is learning something for the Cup race. We have had a blast running these Mustangs this year. We have World Financial Group on the car that has been with us for some of the greatest moments in the sport. We are looking forward to having a fun day on Saturday that will prepare me for Sunday.”

Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Phoenix International Raceway:

“We are going into Phoenix with a lot of unknowns. Since the resurface, there is currently only one racing groove and we are uncertain of the tire wear. Luckily we get an extra day of practice which will allow us to dial in our No. 60 World Financial Group Ford. Carl has an excellent record at PIR so we are hoping to get this Mustang back in Victory Lane and gain on the owners championship.”

FORD RACING CLINCHES 2011 NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES MANUFACTURER’S CHAMPIONSHIP

JAMIE ALLISON, Director, Ford Racing —

“We’re thrilled to win the NASCAR Nationwide Manufacturers’ Championship. Not only is it our first since 2002, but, more importantly, it’s the first championship for Mustang in NASCAR. Mustang – as it has for 47 years – continues to be a force in all forms of racing. This has been a great year for
Ford and Roush Fenway in Nationwide, with Carl, Ricky and Trevor all providing some great moments and 13 victories. Now, it would be great
to add the driver’s championship by Ricky to this special year for Mustang and Ford.”

BORN TO RACE –

Mustang winning a championship in its first year of NASCAR competition won’t come as a surprise to Ford enthusiasts, who have known about the muscle car’s racing pedigree ever since it came off the assembly line for the first time in April of 1964. In fact, a little more than a month after its April 17 introduction, Mustang was on the race track as a pace car leading the 1964 Indianapolis 500. And before the year was out, it was a winner in competition, finishing first and second in class in the 1964 Tour de France international rally.

THE MOST SINCE –

In addition to helping deliver a manufacturer’s championship, Mustang has been to victory lane more than any other model in 2011. Mustang has 13 wins so far this season, which represents the highest single-season win total in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for Ford Racing since 2002 when it won 16 races.

FEELS LIKE THE THIRD TIME –

This marks the third time Ford has won the NASCAR Nationwide Series manufacturer’s title. The first time came in 1995 when Chad Little led the Ford contingent with six wins while Dale Jarrett and Mark Martin contributed three each. Kenny Wallace and Tim Fedewa also scored victories that year for Ford. The second title came courtesy of Greg Biffle, who won the driver’s championship and was a leader on the manufacturer side. Jeff Burton actually led the way with five wins that season while Biffle and Jason Keller registered four each, Scott Riggs two and Bobby Hamilton Jr. one.

Ford NASCAR Nationwide Manufacturer Championship Seasons: 1995, 2002, 2011

Ford NASCAR Nationwide Series Champions:

• Greg Biffle (2002)

• Carl Edwards (2007)

Ford Finishing Order:

1st – Trevor Bayne

3rd – Carl Edwards

6th – Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

29th – Joey Gase

33rd – Timmy Hill

35th – David Ragan

37th – Carl Long

38th – J.J. Yeley

40th – Tim Andrews

BAYNE WINS FIRST NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE

• Trevor Bayne registered his first NASCAR Nationwide Series win with today’s victory at Texas.

• The victory is the 13th for Mustang in its inaugural season by three different drivers (Edwards, Bayne and Stenhouse Jr.) and is the most among all manufacturers.

• The win is also the 299th all-time win for Roush Fenway Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Nationwide Series combined.

TREVOR BAYNE – No. 16 Ford. Drive One. Ford Mustang – VICTORY LANE INTERVIEW –

“This is just as surreal as the 500. That’s hard to say, but this has been so long. We’ve worked so hard to get our first Nationwide win and I wasn’t sure if it was ever gonna happen. I was thinking maybe the next Cup win would come first, but these guys worked their butts off to get us here and God pulled us through.

Man, this is crazy. It doesn’t seem real again, just like the 500. The fashion we were able to win that race, going up and racing against one of the best in motorsport in Carl Edwards, to pass him for the win and get Ford this manufacturer championship and put our effort into it is great. Everybody has won races and leading the points and we were ready to get our first win. I’m glad we could do it here.”

YOU DIDN’T HAVE A WINNING CAR UNTIL THE END.

“That was a last-minute save by Chad Norris. I didn’t think this car had it in it. I thought it might all week, but with about 14 to go I didn’t know if we’d be able to get up there and get the win, but he dialed it in and the pit crew did a great job getting me back out and this thing was a beast at the end.”

THIS PLACE MUST BE ON YOUR FAVORITE LIST.

“It is. It’s one of the toughest to drive and that’s why I’ve always wanted to get a win at a place like this. Daytona is great, but that’s restrictor plate racing. I hate to say it but a lot of people could be in victory lane there, but to win at a mile-and-a-half that has been one of my dreams
and Texas is by far one of the toughest places to drive, so I’m reallyexcited about this victory.”

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. – No. 6 Sam’s Club / Cargill Ford Mustang –

“That was good. It’s awesome to see Trevor win. I think that wraps up the manufacturer’s championship for Ford Racing, so that was one goal that
we wanted this year and we finally got that done. Our Sam’s Club Members Mark Angus Beef Mustang was really good at first and then it kind of backed up a little bit. We lost some track position and got a great restart there at the end. I thought we were gonna get home with a top five, but we’ll definitely take where we finished.”

WHAT ABOUT THE LAST FEW LAPS?

“That was fun. We were just a little bit too to keep in front of the 22 and run a couple more down, but it was awesome to see Trevor get a win this year in the Nationwide Series. This wraps up a Ford championship for manufacturers, so that’s awesome. It was a good day for the Sam’s Club Members Mark Angus Beef Ford.”

YOU ARE 17 POINTS AHEAD OF ELLIOTT NOW.

“That’s good. That’s better than where we were when we came in and that’sreally all we can ask for.”

CARL EDWARDS – No. 60 Fastenal Ford Mustang –

“He earned that one. He drove really well. That restart he did a really good job. I wasn’t worried about giving him the bottom because I thought I could hang on his door and beat him, but our Fastenal Mustang was really good for the majority of the day. At the end, once those guys got by they were
able to drive away. That’s better than finishing right on their bumper because it’s tough to lead that much and not win the thing, but Trevor is a great guy and he deserves to win. I’m happy for him and for Ford.”

DAVID RAGAN – No. 08 Texas Tech Ford Mustang –

“We were making a lot of progress. The car was driving as good as it had been all day, but my inexperience with these cars and a start-up team, we just didn’t start where we needed to. I’m proud of the guys. They were making some big adjustments and the car responded, but it just seemed it lost
a cylinder going into one and it was something internally in the engine. We’ll chalk it up as a learning experience. It was fun until she blew.”

CARL EDWARDS PRESS CONFERENCE –

“The restart I was really happy Trevor was behind me and then he wasn’t behind me anymore after that and I was really happy that he was able to hold off the 18. Our Fastenal Mustang was good all day. Towards the end we didn’t adjust our car as well, I don’t think, which is just as much my fault as anyone’s. We had such a dominant run all day. We were maybe a little lax on our last adjustment and Trevor got in there behind me. He pushed me out
in front of the 18 and I wasn’t really worried about him going to the bottom because I thought if he went to the bottom I could hold him off and run on his door and make it hard on him, but I was wrong. He drove right by and then Denny drove by and they just drove away from
us, which made me feel a little bit better that they drove away and I didn’t just give it up 100 percent on that pass. I’m just really glad
he was able to hold off Denny. We did close one point on those guys in the owner’s championship, which is important to us right now, so I
think it’s a two-point race there.”

WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION TO NASCAR PARKING KYLE BUSCH THE REST OF THIS WEEKEND?

“I didn’t hear anything that Mike Helton said, so I don’t know the exact reason or anything like that. I’ll just let Denny talk about that.”

WILL YOU THINK TWICE ABOUT DUMPING SOMEONE IN THE FUTURE?

“Like I said, I haven’t heard what Mike said yet and I haven’t had a chance to talk to him, so I don’t know yet.”

HOW BIG DO YOU THINK THIS IS FOR TREVOR TO WIN?

“I think it’s huge for Trevor. I’m happy to see him have success, as happy as I can be as a competitor of his. I think that Trevor has
been through a lot this year. I think he’s been through a lot that anybody in his position would consider that a big journey that he’s been on and to be as young as he is and to have so many changes in his life right now, and for him to handle everything as gracefully as he has, I think, says a lot about him. So it’s neat to see someone like that have some success. If it becomes a regular thing, I don’t know
if I would be as happy for him, but I am happy for him today.”

WHAT DID YOU LEARN TODAY FOR TOMORROW?

“I think the track was a little different than it was in practice with the Cup cars and as the race went on I learned where some of the grip was and where it wasn’t. I was fortunate enough to be able to start first a couple times and try the inside and outside. That was pretty interesting and overall the way that the track changed throughout the day. Even though the timing is a little different for tomorrow’s race, I still think I learned a
little bit about the way the track is gonna change.”

HOW WILL IT BE NOT HAVING KYLE IN THE RACE TOMORROW?

“How many points back is he (57). I thought he was closer than that, but, like I said, I’d like to talk to Helton about it and understand exactly what the reasoning was and I haven’t talked to Kyle personally or anything, so I still don’t know enough about the situation, but, from a competitive standpoint, that’s one less guy out there that’s chasing you down for the championship. From a pure competition standpoint, that is simpler for us now.”

DANICA FINISHED 11TH TODAY. DO YOU NOTICE THAT SHE’S LEARNING AND GETTING BETTER?

“I came around and only lapped her, I think, one time and it took me a long time to get by her and, finally, when I did get up right to the outside of her coming off the corner I thought she did a great job of giving me just the right amount of room. She’s definitely come a long way in my book. Of course, I knew that when I bumped her out of the way at Montreal, she went in the next corner and bumped me right back out of the way, so she’s a good racer.”

TREVOR BAYNE PRESS CONFERENCE – YOU LED THE FEWEST LAPS FOR A WINNER AT TMS (6).

“Normally, you don’t want a record for leading the least laps, but it’s okay when you have a win at the end of it, so I’ll take that. I think Chad will, too, and Jack and everybody else. We’re really excited with this win and the fashion we were able to do it there at the end, to race against Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin – two of the best drivers and two of the best cars in the series – and be able to get them there. Carl drove me really, really clean there at the end. I was expecting a bit more from him actually, but he did all he could to hold us off, I guess, and still was clean. That was
really fun at the end. I can’t describe how this feels to get a win in the Nationwide Series finally and to do it with these guys at a
track like Texas, it means a lot to me and it’s my brother’s birthday. I forgot to talk about that earlier, so happy birthday to my little
eight-year-old brother.”

JACK ROUSH, Owner –

“I couldn’t be prouder. Texas has been real good to us. We won with Jeff Burton here in the inaugural race back in the nineties. That was a wonderful event. The thought that I had when I watched the checkered flag fall and Trevor I said, ‘It’s great to be there for his first win,’ but then I remembered his dad said he had taken him racing since he was five years old and he’d run thousands of races and I bet you obviously remember your two wins from this year with NASCAR, but I bet you don’t know how many times you’ve won in your life, have you?”

TREVOR BAYNE CONTINUED –

“I don’t know. It’s somewhere over 400 or so with local events and all that, but I can promise you that these two are the most memorable.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED –

“That’s great. I’m really proud of Trevor and proud of Chad and proud of the job that Mike Beam and all the guys did to get the cars to have all that speed in them. Doug Yates and the guys did a great job with the engine and, of course, I’m especially happy to be here with Ford Motor Company to win, I think, the first manufacturer’s title in 10 years or so – since 2002.”

CHAD NORRIS, Crew Chief –

“We kind of struggled a little bit being tight in the center all day and we worked on the front end there a little bit and I knew it was gonna be a 20 or 30-lap run there, and our car was really good on about 20 laps. The caution that came out there with about seven to go really played in our hands. We tightened the thing up just a little bit, just so we could get going, and the thing really took off and he did a really nice job at the end of the race and just raced his butt off. I can’t be more proud for him and Jack and Ford Motor Company.”

TREVOR BAYNE CONTINUED – CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR YEAR AND WHAT DOES THIS DO FOR YOU AFTER A ROUGH WEEK LIKE YOU HAD AT TALLADEGA?

“I don’t know if you could script a story like the year I’ve had. It’s crazy to think only one year ago I was making my first Cup start and to come back here to Texas and get our first Nationwide win, this is a place I’m gonna love from now on. But this year has been a lot of ups and a lot of downs, but I think the people around me and myself, we’ve tried to stay right here the whole time. We’ve tried not to ride it to the top or ride it to the bottom and that’s been important for us – to be able to come back after bad things happen, just like after Talladega with all the negative things that were going on, that was fuel to our fire to be positive and to come out here and show everybody that we’re here to stay and that we can do this and that’s what Chad’s mindset was, that’s what my mindset was, Jack, and everybody around me. We try not to feed off the negative things and we know that we’re gonna be back to a positive day, so, with that said, when we do have good days we do ride that a little bit more. I’m pretty happy to be here and to be in the media center finally for a Nationwide win. It’s a dream come true.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED – DO YOU STILL USE THE AUDI WIND TUNNEL IN GERMANY?

“We’ve got a moving-ground plane wind tunnel in Concord and we haven’t been to the Audi wind tunnel in two or three years. It helped us a lot until we got the resource close by, but it’s certainlysomething we look forward to going back and establishing a baseline if
we lose our way.”

TREVOR BAYNE CONTINUED – WERE YOU THINKING ABOUT THIS WAS WHERE YOU GOT SICK LAST TIME OR MADE YOUR FIRST CUP START?

“Honestly, I didn’t really think about anything except coming here off the momentum we had at Charlotte. We’ve learned so much about our mile-and-a-halfs and the Roush Fenway cars have been so strong, and our Wood Brothers car has been the same way at the mile-and-a-halfs lately, so I was kind of feeding off that coming here, trying to do the same thing that Chad has been working on me to do. He’s had me watching different films and things to work on my driving style a little bit. That’s been important and it’s been applicable to a bunch of mile-and-a-halfs and been able to gain advantages and really work that, so it’s been important to learn at Charlotte and bring that here. Obviously, the sickness does come to mind a little bit when you think about Texas and my first Cup start comes to mind, but I would say more the first Cup start than anything.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED – HAVE YOU HAD TIME TO HEAR ABOUT THE PENALTIES TO KYLE BUSCH?

“I wasn’t at the truck race last night. I had an engagement that held me away from the race track, so I didn’t see it
first-hand. I became aware of it this morning and the buzz in the garage after I had done one interview already. I really wouldn’t care
to comment on what NASCAR has done. I think that anybody that wrecksone of these cars or creates a problem after a caution or after a
checkered flag really does so at their own peril, and I’m sure NASCAR will do something that’s reasonable in the broad scheme of things.”

TREVOR BAYNE CONTINUED – IS THIS THE FIRST TIME YOU’VE EVER WORN A COWBOY HAT?

“I’ve actually worn them before, probably like Halloween when I was five, and I wore one in this morning and they were making fun of it, so I think now I can actually wear it. I didn’t think it would ever look good with a race suit, but I think this one looks okay.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED –

“Actually, I heard when they presented him with his hat in the winner’s circle that he had planned to buy one if he could, if they were available, but this way he saved that investment.”

TREVOR BAYNE CONTINUED – CAN YOU TAKE US THROUGH THE FINAL RESTART?

“Going into the last restart, like Chad said, I knew that our car was gonna be really strong for a short run. We were able to gain three or
four spots every single restart all day, and I knew at the end there with us being in fourth position, that was about the number of cars we
could pass and we were just able to get a great restart, kind of like the one at Charlotte, where we were able to push Carl out front. And
once he got out front, we actually cleared the 18. Had I not cleared the 18, I don’t know that we could have won the race, but, fortunately, we had enough power to get by him and was able to get tothe bottom and get on Carl’s left-rear a little bit and get by him. these kind of restart races, these are the kind of wins you’ve always wanted.

As a driver, I remember at Myrtle Beach Speedway when I was probably 15 years old in the Hooters Pro Cup Series, there was a green-white-checker and I started fourth and ended up winning the race, kind of the same way, and that’s one that’s always stood out in my head, so that’s the driver I want everyone to know I can be – is a guy that can go get it done at the end. I’m glad that we were finally able to do that and I know that these guys have been pulling for me all along and it’s cool to finally see that pay off for them.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED – ANYMORE CLARITY ON WHAT RICKY AND TREVOR WILL BE DOING NEXT YEAR?

“Our programs are not firmed up. We’re working with sponsors to try to make the best offering that we can or the best
package that we can, but I really don’t have anything to announce on that. It was another win for the NextGen oil, Valvoline’s new oil,
and we’re real excited about that, too. They’ve got an added package for the oil that’s real attractive for us with the NextGen, but Goodyear had a great tire. We had a great engine. The engineering support from Ford was good and without having all those things behind us, we couldn’t have realized the success that we had today.”

TREVOR BAYNE CONTINUED – DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY TO YOUR FANS FROM A SOCIAL MEDIA STANDPOINT?

“Well, after Talladega I’m a little scared of Twitter. I got on there and saw what everybody was saying and kind of hurt my feeling a little bit, so I’ve been staying off a little bit. But I’m really excited to have the following that we do have. After Daytona it obviously skyrocketed from 6,000 to around 64,000 now on Facebook and everything, so I really do appreciate the true fansstanding behind me all the time. They’re always there to lift me up and encourage me and just keep me going, so it’s great to have any fans and the social media ones are just as important as the people
that are here, so it’s been cool to see that grow all year long through the ups and downs and seeing the support that unconditional. That means a lot to me.”

1st – Carl Edwards

3rd – Trevor Bayne

9th – Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

21st – Timmy Hill

26th – Joey Gase

CARL EDWARDS – No. 60 Fastenal Ford Mustang – VICTORY LANE INTERVIEW –

“Trevor was behind me, so that’s what got me the lead – Trevor’s push. That meant a lot. He could have gone three-wide, so this is huge. I hit the wall really hard and messed the right side of the car up, but it’s a big week for Ford. It’s 110th anniversary of Ford Racing.Henry Ford won a race 110 years ago. We’re leading the Nationwide points and the Cup points and we’re winning with these Ford Mustangs, so that’s huge. I’ve got to thank Fastenal, Valvoline Next-gen, Wiley X, and the fans. This is unbelievable. I thought Brad had it, and then I thought there at the end Kyle was gonna get me. He has an ability to turn it on at the end, and he raced me really clean and I appreciate that.”

TREVOR BAYNE – No. 16 Fastenal Ford Mustang – PIT ROAD INTERVIEW

“I was hoping for a 1-2-3 finish there, but we still got a first and a third, and I think Stenhouse ended up ninth, which isn’t too bad, but I was hoping we could get a win tonight. We had a really good car at the end. We battled being on the splitter too hard at the beginning
and finally got it dialed in right at the end when it counted. The pit crew did an awesome job today and kept us up there, so this is one of those races where we finally had a fast car and everything worked out together. There have been so many times this year where we’ve been really fast and little things have happened to take us out, but I was really happy to see Fastenal in victory lane and we got a good finish for them as well. Pushing Carl to the lead there at the end was kind of fun. I saw him slipping a little bit and then we got him by Kyle getting into turn one. Those guys turned up the wick the last few laps. You really see what these cars have in them when you see Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards battling for a win. They can really wheel these things, but I’m really happy with our finish and our Ford Mustang was pretty good tonight.”

TREVOR BAYNE PRESS CONFERENCE –

“It’s been a while since we’ve been in here, so we had to get a good run soon enough so I could come and see you guys. I was really happy with that run. I think that we’ve had some really good cars in the past few weeks, but we haven’t been able to show it by the finishes due to little things that have happened on the track or on pit road, but we’ve had speed and I was glad that we finally got to showcase that a little bit tonight with a finish. Chad Norris did a great job all night long. We spent the first part of therace really tight and on the splitter really hard and finally on the
last run when it counted he got me off the track and got it dialed in for us. I’m really happy with that for Fastenal and for Carl to get a win for Fastenal as well. I was able to push him out there to the lead a little bit on that last restart, which was pretty neat.” HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE DOES

THIS GIVE YOU FOR TOMORROW?

“It’s a lot. Track time is awesome too at these kind of places. With the new pavement, you don’t really think of this as being a bumpy race track
or having patches on it, but I learned a lot for tomorrow, I believe as far as the line and little things about the track and its characteristics and not overdriving the race car. We found a lot of speed in that tonight, which was really good, but that Wood Brothers 21 car has been fast all weekend, so that gives me enough confidence in itself – qualifying in the top 10, being really fast on the lap tracker today in all of practice, so I’m happy to get out there tomorrow in that ’63 paint scheme with Glenn Wood above the door. Having that above the door gives you some confidence, too. That’s pretty neat.”

WERE YOU THINKING ABOUT STAYING IN FRONT OF SADLER FOR RICKY’S SAKE IN THE TITLE CHASE?

“First of all, I was thinking top three. That was the first thing that crossed that my mind and I just wanted to finish as good as possible, and I knew we were better than Sadler so we could hold him off. You definitely have some more people in your ear when it’s a championship contender behind you when he’s battling your teammate. I knew Jack would be a little happier with me on Monday if we beat Sadler, so you race them all the same, but I think that was good to keep him in our rearview mirror for Stenhouse for the championship there at the end.”

HAVE YOU BEEN TOLD HOW MANY RACES IN THE 21 CAR NEXT YEAR?

“No. So far I think they have sold 12 to 13 races. How many of those I’ll be racing, I don’t know. Hopefully, all of them, but I think we’re just kind of waiting to see what happens on the Nationwide side first, too. Next year is kind of uncertain right now at this point with a lot at Roush Fenway
Racing. If you look at their Cup programs and their Nationwide programs, it’s just really tough right now for everybody. Hopefully, we can pick something up to be full-time Nationwide and then hopefully take on all 12 of those Cup races would be my plan – very similar to this year. But I would love to run for a championship next year in Nationwide. That’s my goal and, hopefully, Roush Fenway will be able to have the funds and partners to help me do that.”

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. – No. 6 Blackwell Angus / Cargill Ford Mustang –

“We were fast all night, that part was good. The car ran good and did everything we needed it to do and wanted it to do. We could lead
some. It was tough when you got behind to really pass and make up time, but if you could start up there, we were really fast. We took two with 25 to go and if the caution doesn’t come out we’re looking wonderful. We’re running second and running really fast times with Kyle, who has four. I’ve just got to get better at restarts. I’ve struggled with that all year and they’ve been getting better on the mile-and-a-halfs until tonight. I just kept spinning the tires and that’s what got us behind there at the end. The car drove the same as it did all night, I just lost way too much time on the restart.”

THIS CHAMPIONSHIP LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING DOWN TO THE LAST RACE. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT WHERE THINGS STAND NOW?

“It sure is. That two-car team is running good. What’s cool about it is when we battle on the race track we battle hard. He gives me plenty of room. I don’t question that at all, so it’s fun racing with him for this. We feel like we’ve got good tracks left. We felt like Charlotte was gonna be a good one for us and it really was. We were faster than the 2 car all night.

We could pass him and we could stay in front of him, so I think our cars are performing where they need to be, I’ve just got to get better
on our restarts. Charlotte always seems to be tough for us on restarts for some reason, but I think we’ve got the car to do it with our Mustang.”

IF YOU WIN THIS TITLE BY ONE POINT WILL YOU TAKE TREVOR BAYNE OUT TO DINNER OR SOMETHING? HE KEPT ELLIOTT BEHIND HIM AT THE FINISH.

“He did. I’ll definitely take him out to dinner, for sure.”

CARL EDWARDS PRESS CONFERENCE –

“The night started out pretty poorly due to my running into the wall, but I’d like to think those were all Fastenal parts on the car so they didn’t break. That was good. We fought back from that. Mike did a really good job of convincing me everything was gonna be okay, and it was. And then that last restart, if Trevor hadn’t given me that push down into turn one – if he hadn’t tucked in behind us and put us out there in front – I think we would have had a really hard time holding Kyle off on the top. It was just a really, really good team effort. The car was the best it had been all night at the end, and that’s what we need to win. I’m just really happy we got it done. We’ve got a lot of folks from Fastenal here. We’ve got a big photo shoot coming up on Monday and it’ll be a good time. I’m just glad we won this race.”

MIKE BEAM, Crew Chief – WHAT ABOUT THE JOB YOUR CREW DID TONIGHT?

“Those guys do a great job. We’ve been together a little over a year now and we won’t give up. Luckily, Carl is the same way and Jack is,
and once we saw the damage flattened the right side out, it hadn’t totally configurated the car to where we couldn’t work on it. We tried to seal up the crush panels, but luckily the toe wasn’t too bad. It kind of fixed what we were fighting, so we got lucky there. Carl just drove his guts out there and luckily we won the race.”

JACK ROUSH, Car Owner –

“I think I’m gonna lose my mind here. We put all the engineering in the cars, and we got all the manufacturing quality variance to make sure that we can make them the same and Carl wrecked his car today, and the car decided that it wouldn’t give up, so I’m gonna talk to that car. I may give that car a kiss tonight before I go to bed. That car had heart. It was bent and it was aerodynamically not sound and it was mechanically not intact, and it stood up under Carl and carried him to a victory. Mike thought about trying to repair the toe-in, but it seemed like it was running pretty
good. Mike and I agree that we think maybe the toe-in business we’ve got on our Goodyear tires maybe is not where we need to be now,
anyway, this was look as far as the alignment is concerned more like what we had five or 10 years ago. The car liked it and
congratulations.”

CARL EDWARDS CONTINUED – HOW DO YOU VIEW THIS STRING OF GOOD LUCK? AS THOUGH IT’S YOUR YEAR, OR THAT IT’S GOING TO END SOON?

“It’s like a roulette wheel, just because it goes one way one time doesn’t mean it’s gonna go the other way the next time. We’ve had our share of bad
luck over the years and I don’t think that this means anything for the future. I’m just grateful for the way things went tonight. They went really well in the Cup race last week and at the end of the day, if things would have gone normally, if Brad hadn’t got that flat tire and spun out down there and caused a caution, and if Trevor hadn’t been behind us on the restart – all those things – we wouldn’t have won the race. But all you can do in racing is put yourself in a position to win and if circumstances work out right, you can win. But, no, I don’t feel like I’m owed anything and I surely don’t take our good fortune for granted.”

COULD YOU TELL RIGHT AWAY THAT THE CAR WASN’T ACTING LIKE A CAR THAT HIT THE WALL SHOULD ACT?

“Yeah, I was pretty surprised at how fast it was after it hit the fence. I slowed down for a lap or two just to kind of make sure nothing was gonna fall off and we got back going and it was fast. It’s pretty impressive that we could run into the wall that hard and the car would still go. We came
down and put tires on it and fixed the body as best they could and it was screaming fast. Track position was really important, though, and it did take us pretty much the entire race to get back up there to the front. I had one bad restart where I got shuffled back, and, luckily, the restarts went well there at the end.”

MIKE BEAM CONTINUED – HOW WERE YOU ON FUEL IF YOU HADN’T GOTTEN THE LAST CAUTION?

“No, we wouldn’t have even been close. We would have had to stop with probably 10 to go. We were just gonna go as hard as we could. Nobody was gonna make it, so we were probably stop there and get two-and-a-half seconds of fuel or something like that. That was the plan. I know Jack and Scott Graves, our engineer, they pretty much had the same number, so we knew what we needed to do. We were three gallons short. We knew what we needed to do. There was no use in messing around with it and just go as hard as we could. Our pit crew is pretty awesome and Darren Beecher, our gas man, I really stress that if it comes down to two or three seconds what we’re gonna do and he practices that sometimes. It just worked out for us.”

MIKE BEAM CONTINUED — WILL YOU MEASURE THIS CAR WHEN IT GETS BACK TO THE SHOP AND IMPLEMENT IT?

“Yes, Monday’s car will be scrutinized as far as the toe-in and exactly if it knocked the housing back and exactly what it did do for Texas or Homestead. We were fortunate. We won Texas in the spring and this car here will go to Homestead, so we’ll definitely take the information and let Scott, our engineer, run it through the computer and calculate exactly what was going on there and see exactly what road we need to go down, especially with this tire here.”

CARL EDWARDS CONTINUED – WAS IT A CASE OF WHOEVER GOT IN FRONT ON THE LAST RESTART WAS GOING TO WIN?

“I don’t know I would have been able to get back around him. I did have a lot of speed in the car there, though, the previous run. I planned on having to pass him those last few laps. I did not plan on getting out front down into turn one, so my plan was to go on the attack and have to pass him and I felt like we had a shot at it, but you never know. It was very, very fortunate that we ended up in front. That made it a lot easier.”

WILL THIS HELP YOU IN TOMORROW’S RACE?

“I think the biggest thing running the Nationwide Series helps me with is there are a lot of mistakes you can make in a race car and tonight I made at least one or two. Running into walls usually doesn’t work out that well for you, so that was a good reminder for tomorrow. Sometimes I’ll speed on pit road or do something silly in the Nationwide race and sometimes it gets me a little focused for the Cup race. But the main reason I run the Nationwide Series is because Jack and everyone at Fastenal and Ford give me these cars that are a blast to drive. Mike is fun to work with. I’ve got a great group of guys and it’s just fun. It’s a great training ground for pit crew members and for sponsors like Fastenal that is gonna move up with us to the Cup Series next year, so, in general, it’s just a fun way to spend your Friday or Saturday and there’s no place I’d rather be right now.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED – KYLE SAID TOYOTA HAS A HORSEPOWER DEFICIENCY.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT?

“We’ve all got the same parameters. We’ve all got the same deck height. We’ve all got the same cam shaft dimensions and valve sizes. The Ford was disadvantaged in those things for years, until we got the FR9 going last year. So he certainly doesn’t have the advantage, or the Toyotas don’t have the
advantage that they had over the Fords before. It would be a travesty, I think, on top of all the money we’re spending on the 2013 car and the fuel injection and on top of the fueling apparatus we’ve got for the fuel cells and dump cans if we spent money building another engine that we don’t need. If Toyota got another engine, then Chevrolet would be due one and Dodge would be due one and Ford would have to do one as well. Right now, there’s no reason to change the engines. They’ve all got the same parameters and it’s a matter of what carburetor jets you put in it and how much ignition timing you put to it.”

“I sit in these race cars every week twice a week and been doing it for a long time and we do not have a horsepower advantage. Those are political statements that people make to try to get us back to where we were for years, just like Jack said, at a disadvantage. Right now, we have the same engine – as close as I’ve ever seen it from the driver’s seat. I still think there’s one manufacturer that has a little more engine than us in the Nationwide Series and maybe in the Cup Series, but from the Toyota side, they’re combining with TRD – the Gibbs folks are – to make their engines
better next year and there is no reason to give any on the parameters.I believe the engines are as close as they’ve been.”

Carl Edwards on racing at Kansas Speedway:

“I absolutely love Kansas Speedway. It’s not far from my hometown and I will have several of my family and friends there. It’s a track I really want to win at. Our Fastenal team has been on a roll and we are coming off a strong win at Dover. I love the mile and a half speedways. Kansas Speedway is exactly what this Fastenal team needs for the owners points. We have five races left and we want to gain as many points as possible and make it count. These last races are at very good tracks and we will make it exciting for the fans!”

Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Kansas Speedway:

“We are coming off a dominating win at Dover so we are going to carry that momentum to Kansas. Our mile-and-a-half program has been superb this year. Our goal is to stay up front, have fast pit-stops and get this No. 60 Fastenal Ford back to victory lane for the eighth time this season.”

FAST FACTS

- So far in 2011, Edwards has seven wins, 18 top-fives, and 22 top-10s.

“It is going to be fun. We will have so much pressure on the Cup side that is will be fun to go there and just run hard for the Nationwide win and blow a little steam off on Saturday. It will be fun to race during the day too. It should be a fun, slick race track and I like that. I am really looking forward to it.”

Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Chicagoland Speedway:

“We finished second their earlier this year so hopefully we can improve that position by one spot. We have been running really strong the past couple of weeks and our Fastenal team is performing well on pit road. We will keep making the needed adjustments during the race and hopefully get this Fastenal Ford back to victory lane and claim Carl’s first win at Chicago.”

Great Clips 300

September 3, 2011

Atlanta Motor Speedway

EDWARDS GIVES MUSTANG 10TH WIN OF 2011

• Carl Edwards won his sixth NASCAR Nationwide Series race of the season.

• The win was Mustang’s 10th of the season, more than any other car
make in 2011.

• Ricky Stenhouse maintained his points lead over second-place Elliott Sadler.

Ford Finishing Results:

1st – Carl Edwards

3rd – Ricky Stenhouse, Jr.

17th – Matt Carter

33rd – Trevor Bayne

35th – Clay Greenfield

36th – Timmy Hill

41st – Carl Long

TREVOR BAYNE – No. 16 Ford Drive One Mustang –

“That’s the best mile-and-a-half car we’ve ever had, I believe. We had a shot to winthis thing on a short run. I got a little bit free after about -25 laps and we were at a run that was gonna be 20 laps. It was gonna be perfect. We should have been around fifth and we came out 11th and
you just get back there where you shouldn’t be and get around some guys that are racing really hard and end up getting wrecked. That was a hard hit and I hate it for this Ford Mustang because I think it could have had confetti on it tonight, but I’m really proud of what my guys have done – Chad Norris and everybody for giving me a great car – so we’ll just take it to them at Richmond, I guess.”

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. – No. 6 Blackwell Angus Ford Mustang –

“Our Blackwell Angus Beef and Cargo Mustang was strong all night. We struggled there in the pits in the middle part of the race and were able to overcome it. We caught a right-front tire that almost gave us some trouble there. It almost went down, but I’ve just got to thank all the fans for coming out. We had a good crowd tonight, and Nationwide Insurance. I’m just glad to have this Blackwell Angus Beef and Cargo Mustang paint job back on this thing.”

CARL EDWARDS – No. 60 Fastenal Ford Mustang – VICTORY LANE INTERVIEW –

“I’ve got to say Happy Birthday to my grandma, Phyllis. They’re watching the race from Kirkwood, Missouri and we’re gonna take the trophy home to grandma. Thank you guys, I love you. I’ve got to thank Fastenal. This was a big week for Fastenal. We announced a big partnership for next year. That’s huge. I’ve got to thank Ford, Valvoline, the Nationwide Series, all the fans here, Wiley X and Aflac. We had a big day yesterday and I was inspired by the kids at the Aflac Cancer Center, so if you folks want to donate, Aflac will double your donation at Aflac.com/friends, so it’s a big weekend for us here. I can’t believe we got the pole and the win. What a heck of a race.”

YOU TRIED TO STAY POSITIVE AND KEEP YOUR TEAM IN IT EARLY ON

“I’ve got a great team. These are great guys. Man, everybody raced really well. That was as hard as we could race out there. Kyle and I, Kevin. I raced Kasey. That was a lot of fun. This track is as good as it gets. This is a blast. I can’t wait for tomorrow.”

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. PRESS CONFERENCE –

“The race itself was fun. This race track is a lot of fun. It’s old and it wears the tires out and it’s rough. That’s my kind of race track. I like to get up on the wheel and drive it hard and it worked out for us tonight. Our Blackwell Angus Beef and Cargo Mustang really ran well. We struggled in the pits and got behind and had to make some time up, but once we did we were okay. We caught a good break and caught the right-front
tire, it shredded but it didn’t blow, so we caught that. If we would have stayed out one more lap it probably would have blown the right-front and there at the end it was just fun racing with Kyle and Kevin. I wish we could have had a little more for Carl, but it was a good weekend for Roush Fenway. The last few laps there, the last run, I think we had a tire coming loose, so I kind of had to take it a little easy and made sure we finished and it was a good points night for us.”

DOES THIS TRACK REMIND YOU OF RUNNING YOUR SPRINT CAR AROUND THIS PART OF THE COUNTRY?

“Definitely. I think that’s one of the reasons why I like this place. You can move all over the race track. You’re sliding no matter what. There are other race tracks you can slide, but not everybody is sliding so it doesn’t pay off. When everybody starts slipping and sliding and you can turn right going through the corner most of the time it reminds me of any sprint car race track that I’ve run on. I think that’s where it helped us out here tonight.”

DID YOU FEEL PRESSURED KNOWING SADLER WAS STRUGGLING OR DID YOU JUST TACKLE THIS RACE AS YOU ALWAYS DO?

“When you have a good race car it’s really fun to drive and when you have an opening it’s tough not to take it as a race car driver. It seems like if you take that chance and kind of take control of it, you feel a little bit better instead of just riding. So I felt a little more in control making some of those moves, a few I probably shouldn’t have made, but they worked out.”

CARL EDWARDS PRESS CONFERENCE –

“The car was spectacular from the first lap on the race track the car was great. Mike and Scott and all the guys did a really great job with it. It’s amazing how these cars have progressed over the last year to year-and-a-half. They’re really fast. Trevor was fast. Ricky was fast. Our car was great. It was just a fun race. I love this race track. Whatever it is about this race track that makes it so much fun to drive we need to figure out if we can engineer that into some other race tracks. This is as good as it gets, so I’m excited for tomorrow. I’m really excited to go run 500 miles here.”

MIKE BEAM, Crew Chief – No. 60 Fastenal Ford Mustang –

“I thought we had a good strategy there and then we got penalized with the air hose, so we had to start at the rear. Then we wanted to go to lap 131 where we could go from there and then some of those guys started pitting, but we stuck to our plan and then the caution came out. It was
nerve-wracking there for a while, but, like Carl said, the car wasgreat and the engine ran great. It was just a lot of fun.”

JACK ROUSH, Car Owner – No. 60 Fastenal Ford Mustang –

“I welcome the opportunity to share the stage here, to be subordinated by my real fast teammates. To be in the company of fast drivers and fast crew
chiefs is a great honor for an owner like me. Mike is the unsung herohere. He’s kind of bucked the organization some and he’s provided leadership for this Nationwide team this year and he had really fast cars here and I know that he won an argument in the shop to get the car the way he wanted it here and we won’t talk about that, but Mike has really done a nice job this year. He has carried it to them and I’m real proud of Mike and I’m real proud of Carl.”

CARL EDWARDS CONTINUED – CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE BACK AND FORTH WITH KYLE AND KEVIN AND RICKY AND DO YOU ANTICIPATE THE SAME THING
TOMORROW?

“I think we’re gonna have just as good a racing tomorrow. I think the way the tire works with this track surface you can slide the cars, you can go in the corner and make a big mistake and get really sideways and you can save it. That was some door-to-door, hardcore racing out there. I don’t know what it looked like on the television or from the grandstands, but from the driver’s seat there was some really, really hard driving and I hope we get to see that tomorrow. We don’t race here enough. This place is a lot of fun. It’s really neat to race on a track like that.”

WERE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT BEING SHORT ON FUEL?

“I was concerned then because one time we were supposed to make it to the end and we were half-a-lap short and that one got us. I’m just giving him a hard time because it’s not a perfect science. Jack explained it to me, you know he’s a mathematician and there’s a lot that goes into it. It’s very difficult with this new fuel system to determine exactly how far you can make it and that’s why we came down that second-to-last time. We
went ahead and came for fuel just to make sure and, yeah, for a driver it’s important to really know. I don’t want him to lie to me because
I know they wanted me to go out there and race really hard on the restart, so they didn’t want to tell me we were short, they wanted to
tell me we were short 10 laps after the restart, but I said, ‘You’ve got to be honest with me. You’ve got to help me out here,’ so that
was why.”

MIKE SAYS.

“You’ve got to give us time to calculate it.”

CARL EDWARDS CONTINUED – KYLE SWEPT ACROSS YOU NOSE AT ONE POINT AND YOU OBJECTED TO THAT. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THAT INCIDENT?

“Yeah, that was almost really ugly. I wasn’t very happy about that. He apologized through his spotter and then he raced me really clean after
that, so that was just hard racing. It was getting really aggressive out there. Everybody was racing really hard and that was a case where
he started coming up and I almost hooked his right-rear. It was all I could do to kind of get out of the way and he stopped and then I ran
into his back bumper. I wasn’t very happy right then, but it was still early enough in the race that it didn’t tear anything up and
since he apologized I figured we’d have a good, clean race at the end. Fortunately, he wasn’t able to catch us those last few laps.”

MIKE BEAM CONTINUED – WERE YOU WORRIED AFTER THE PENALTY AND DID YOU CHANGE ANYTHING AFTER QUALIFYING?

“About the air hose, luckily there was like only 14 cars on the lead lap, so I knew that we had plenty of time to make it up if things went our way. You just don’t ever know, but when you get in the dirty air you don’t know how it’s gonna react, but, luckily, the car was pretty good in traffic and the lap times were real competitive, so I just knew that if we kept our heads straight that we could get back to the front, so that worked out well.

As far as after qualifying, we just did our normal deal, especially at a place like this. We didn’t run a lot in practice. We ran really
30 laps on the tires, but we just took a shot at it there. We figured the race track was gonna be loose at night and it worked out. We did tighten it up after qualifying a little bit and then we tightened it up during the race also.”

CARL EDWARDS CONTINUED – HOW NERVE-WRACKING IS IT TO BE BACK IN THE PACK AROUND CARS THAT AREN’T AS IN CONTROL AS YOURS?

“My car was really, really good and it was still a handful to drive, and there were some guys back there that their cars were not handling well. I
thought everybody was doing a pretty good job for as tough as this race track can be. It kind of takes the wind out of your sails to get a penalty like that. Most of them lately have been because I’ve been speeding on pit road. I thought when he said we had to do a stop-and-go that I had sped again. I figured Mike would be throwing stuff at me when I stopped there in front of the box, but, in a way, it was early enough in the race. We had a fast enough race car. I tried to just look at it as a challenge and something fun. I think sometimes everything happens for a reason. I thought that run, trying to come through the field, I learned a little bit more about my car than I had running up front, so, in the end, it may have helped me a little bit at the end. So I thought that was good.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED – DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR STEVE TURNER AND CAN YOU TALK ABOUT STENHOUSE HAVING A 13-POINT LEAD?

“Working backwards, this is the first race in the last three or maybe four that we’ve been able to pad or add some to our points lead. I was watching it slip away and I’m glad we stopped that. As far as the Turner organization is concerned, it’s always a risk when you’ve got a championship-contending car and another car that needs to race for its sponsor with great enthusiasm and with great effect, but when the cars come out of the same shop, if they’re done correctly, they’ll have about the same amount of speed in them and then it becomes a question
of whether the driver and the crew chief have made the same decisions on the car, either good or bad, to keep them the same. But it’s not a
surprise that team cars run that close together, but my advice is, and it’s just advice, is that the guys that are not in championship
contention should consider the needs of the car that is in championship contention to make sure you give them plenty of room.”

ARE YOU BACK FLYING 100 PERCENT NOW?

“Carl hasn’t been brave enough to fly with me yet. I’ve just had my medical for about 10 days, so people should leave me alone for a while and just let me do my own thing. I flew from Detroit to Charlotte the other day by myself in my premier jet and it was fun. It was the first time in a year I haven’t had an argument with another pilot in the airplane.”

HOW DOES MONTREAL COMPARE TO SONOMA AND WATKINS GLEN?

“If I were to place all the tracks on a scale, if we just talk about braking, right off the bat Montreal is twice as hard on the brakes as any of these other race tracks we go to. It has long straightaways, stop, right-left, long straightaway, stop, right-left, it’s a very taxing race track on
the brakes. It’s unlike any other track I’ve ever driven on, so that one is different. Sonoma is very slick, it’s a momentum race track.

It’s a finesse race track and this place is somewhere in between. Watkins Glen has some areas, like the esses, where you really have to finesse it through there, but then it has a couple of really hard braking zones that are tough, too. It’s fun to get to run these road courses. There’s a lot of driving going on. Even when you’re driving by yourself, you’re really driving hard and that’s fun. It’s neat to be a part of.”

Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve:

“Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a different type of road course compared to Watkins Glen where we raced last week. Montreal is twice as hard on the brakes as any of the road courses that we visit so we have concentrated on our braking system. Hopefully we can stay out of trouble and keep this Fastenal Ford up front.”

Carl Edwards on racing at Watkins Glen International:

“We had a very strong road course car at Watkins Glen last year, but we didn’t get the finish we wanted. I can’t wait to get back there and into my No. 60 Fastenal Mustang this weekend and tackle The Glen and its eleven turns and banking. It’s always challenging and I really like it a lot. The fans are great, the area is beautiful and the track is demanding. I’m looking forward to it and I plan on coming out of there with a very solid finish. A win there would be big.”

Crew chief Mike Beam on racing at Watkins Glen International:

“Watkins Glen is a track where we will focus on fuel mileage, brakes, and handling. Road courses are tough because there are only certain areas to pass and/or set up your competitors. We will try to keep our Fastenal Ford up front and avoid any trouble which is typical road course racing.”
