Any fun off-season things that you would like to share with us?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: Very quiet Christmas and New Year’s. I was with Bodine on his wedding, so I can’t say quiet New Year’s. Great Christmas with the kids, grandkids, a lot of fun. Pretty exciting first seeing Bodine get married. He told a story when he went to put the ring on her finger and it didn’t fit. He said, do I really have to marry her now? Is that an omen? Beautiful wedding, though.

Q. I’m hoping we’ll get a story out of this, but can you go back a little bit, your history with Dave Fuge, whatever it might be? Have you worked together? I’m sure you’ve raced around each other, two old-school guys getting together for this 2010 season, what are you looking forward to?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: Well, when I first started racing, used to go to Mesa Marin, and when we saved enough money — our local track was Saugus, and we’d have to travel a couple hours to Bakersfield. And Dave Fuge, to go up there, you’ve got to beat one of his cars. It was Fuge Race Cars, and he was one of the best. And when he started his truck team he designed his own chassis, did his own bodies, him and Mark Smith paired up and they were a battling team. They’ve won two championships with two different drivers. I got an opportunity to drive his truck to help Mike Bliss win the championship down at Homestead and we ended up winning the race and Mike won the championship. Dave and I kind of go way back. We’ve never had a run-in, so that’s a plus. Rick Ren and I had a run-in before, and he became a great crew chief, too.

We’re in a box at KHI. Kevin knows what he wants on his trucks, he knows what he wants for a body, he knows what wind tunnel numbers he wants. Our hands are tied. When we leave the shop, what it is is what we’ve got. We can change a spring here, and we can change a little bit of tow and stuff like that. It’s back to calling great races and driving as hard as we can up to me and Dave. When we leave the shop, both trucks are going to be exactly the same, the Nationwide and truck teams, and we’re just going to keep everything on the same page, so it’s going to be easy for Dave Fuge and myself.

Q. A year ago Rick Crawford was in here and he was really passionate, almost tearful, talking about the challenges that are ahead for the Camping World Series. Are a lot of those challenges still there? Most people argue that the trucks put on the best races. What more can you do to kind of move your way up the ladder there?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: We sat in here last year at the same time talking about that, and we didn’t think we were going to have a full field. I think there was one or maybe two races we didn’t have 36 trucks. We came down here, and I think we sent two of them home. That just says a lot for the Truck Series. People get in their trucks, put a quick sponsor together to come down here for Daytona. I know there’s new teams out there. I know of seven new teams that are starting, seven new trucks, not teams. So I don’t know. NASCAR, we’re going to Pocono, we’re doing the things we need to do. Do we need to go back to shorter tracks? I don’t know. When Kevin hired me, he said he had to hire an extra body guy. We need to stay on these big racetracks. When we said we were going to Daytona, I didn’t get a chance — I came down here, but I didn’t get a chance to race the first race at Daytona. I thought NASCAR was nuts.

But the second year I got to drive Ricky Hendrick’s truck down here. I think I ran 10, 15 laps, got out and praised NASCAR how good these trucks run at a super speedway.

The venues and tracks we’re going to this year, the new teams coming in, some of the new sponsors, you’ll see some neat colors on my truck this year I’m looking forward to. It’s truck racing. We just got done doing a great commercial. NASCAR is definitely behind the Truck Series 125 percent. I’m looking forward to 2010. I think we’ve got some great things coming.

Q. Is it fair to say there’s more optimism this year than there was a year ago?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: I think so.

Q. Glass half full now rather than half empty?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: You know, I don’t know where these sponsors are coming from, but it seems like people are still getting last minute sponsors coming aboard and all that stuff, but they’re still dedicated to do it themselves. They’re still coming to a lot of these racetracks. I know a lot of these guys are dedicated. I know another new team, one of Crawford’s trucks, we’re going to see when we go down there. It’s going to be pretty awesome.

Q. Can you talk a little bit about what it’s going to be like not to hear Rick Ren’s voice in your ear during the race, and how do you think he’s going to help Kyle, but then again, is he going to be giving Kyle maybe some inside information on you that might help Kyle?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: Well, I guess you haven’t really listened to our conversation, Rick Ren and mine. I said, Rick, are you listening to me? He says, hold on, I’ve got to write these notes down. He’s always been a big note taker. To get answers it’s always been Rick Carelli. Rick called some great races with the pit stops the way they were, it threw us all up for a curving at the beginning of the year, and I think Rick and I learned that. NASCAR has changed some of the rules back this year.

Rick and I have won a lot of races together, and like I said, ten years ago with Rick Ren coming over, it probably wouldn’t have worked. I was so hardheaded and he was hardheaded. I think the gel factor of Rick and I understanding what Kevin and Delana has given us to work with, it’s not going to miss a beat. I know that he’s going to do a great job for Kyle. He’s definitely an organizer, he definitely keeps a lot of paperwork.

We came down here for the first Daytona test, and if you’ve ever seen the front of a hauler, how all the chairs are out there, I asked him a question, and he said, hold on a minute, and he started taking his notebook out. And by the time we were done, I had to get up because he had no more room for all his notes. So he can never give you an answer until he gets the right answer. That’s what I’ll miss about Rick. He really studies things and all that stuff. When we leave the shop, we’re usually the best. We try to change things at the track, we try get better.

The last five races we tried things for this year that didn’t work, and we put them right back to what we knew from the first race.
If we do that — we’re building all brand new Trucks the last two races, one was our 2010 KHI trucks and Kevin sold every other truck but the two we’ve got and I’m tested those last week.

Just talked to Dave Fuge today, our truck for Daytona just got off the plate. It’s in the paint shop right now, and our second truck will be done, and the third truck don’t get here until next Wednesday. They’re going to be struggling to get the 2 truck done, but they built those two trucks within a week time period to go to Phoenix and Homestead for Kevin. I have no doubt they can’t built four more trucks before Daytona.

Q. Kind of in that same vein, do you view this as a challenge, the change in crew chiefs, and since Rick did go over to Kyle Busch, would beating Kyle be any sweeter since he’s got the guy who left you running his organization?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: No, beating Kyle by himself is a task. He’s a hard racer every lap, and I don’t think — whatever they bring, Rick is just going to bring organization. That’s what he’s going to bring to the table. He’s very sharp. He puts some good people together. We’ve kept 90 percent of our people together, and we’re pretty happy with that.

I can go back to the day of Dale Earnhardt when he won the championship with three different crew chiefs in the same year. It’s just how people put together and it’s just Kevin and Delana put people in the right places. Rick Ren would even sit here and say the same thing. I’m sure they’re not going to miss a beat and I know we’re not going to miss a beat. This is just making us stronger and it’s going to make us try that much harder. And without stirring anything up, Rick Ren left on good terms in my eyes. And nobody understands how far Rick Ren had to drive. He was at Bill Davis’ and he was at KHI for the last six years, and to drive an hour and 15, hour and 20 minutes each way for that many years, you know, he is getting older in his age, and he said he fell asleep a couple times at the wheel, and he thought twice about what he was going to do in his life, and he got a good opportunity to go to Busch’s and more power to him, and all the success he can have, but hopefully I can try to stop that.

Q. You’ve obviously had a great career. What would it mean for you to win here at Daytona, and also, have you had a chance to talk to Jack, and have you got a dig in on him yet after passing him for the championship?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: Well, if you guys listen, I called him out. I said, all right, Jack, I’ve got four, you can come back and try to get four. I keep digging at Jack all I can. He definitely needs to be in a truck. He’s a great competitor. I think when I passed him on the winds, he got kind of upset. So when I got him on championships, he’s going to have to come back. To win four, you guys are making it really huge. I’m just out there doing my job, and to look back what you guys talk about and what you guys write, that’s pretty cool. I didn’t know he was in the era with Richard Petty or Bobby Allison and stuff like that. That says a lot.
I don’t look at it that way. I just go out there and hopefully I can win five, hopefully I can win six. I’m not done. As long as Kevin and Delana keeps having me and they keep building trucks, we’re going to keep racing.

Q. How about winning here at Daytona?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: This is big. My dream was to come to Daytona to win a race at Daytona. I don’t care if it’s on a bicycle. I’m going to still try to win a race here. I learned a bunch, Dave Fuge brought a bunch of stuff with Ernie Cope and all that stuff.
Our best truck we’ve had for a super speedway is a backup after we found the wind tunnel loads, after we went down the straight line and did some straight line testing, and we’re going off that. We’ve got a couple trucks that we wind tunnelled and learned a bunch. So I’m looking forward to it.

Bodine might be pushing me around here at Daytona this year.

Q. As far as champions go, it’s always said that they dig deal deeper. Do you feel you have a deeper reservoir of talent and energy, or is it more like hard work and some good luck on your part and the team’s part, also?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: I’d rather be lucky than good any day. But I’ve got to still be good, because these young kids want my job really bad. A lot of people are coming up to Kevin and saying, hey, I’m better than that old guy, let me have a shot. I’ve got to keep winning races, keep doing what I do, and Kevin and Delana believe in me 120 percent. He’s got my favorite truck he’s stole again, so that’s two trucks he stole from me. He’s putting in his barn.

To this day I makes me feel good to go over to DEI and see the first championship truck I drove in ’96 for Dale and Teresa. Now some day I get to go to Kevin and Delana when they ever build a museum and see one of the first trucks that I ever won a championship for them.
Heck, when I retire, I want to sit on that front doorstep and show my grandkids everything I’ve won. I’m not done winning races. I want to win a lot more, and it just makes me drive that much harder. We won six races last year, I’ve got to win eight this year and maybe ten, and we’re going to do whatever we can to win another championship.

Q. Do you think Kyle Busch will be looked on differently by the drivers in the Truck Series now that he’s putting money in it and being an owner than they have say in the last few seasons?

RON HORNADAY, JR.: I don’t know how to answer that. He’s still Kyle Busch. I really admire how he came about starting his team, how he went to Kevin, Kevin started his team, and what Kevin wasted money on and what he shouldn’t have wasted money on, how he built things. I think he probably saved a bunch of money going in there and building a shop, and that’s why it’s taken a little longer, because he’s adding things or not adding things, and he changed his mind in the middle of the deal. He’s one of the kids you can say that you know a good rookie when you see him on a racetrack, and Kyle is going to be a good rookie owner because he’s already asked questions. He didn’t learn by mistakes. He came up to Kevin.

We knew what was going on before Rick Ren did because Kyle asked if he could take Rick from him and stuff like that. I hope there isn’t any hard feelings of Rick leaving and vice versa, and I don’t think we’re going to miss a beat. Hopefully we need another successful team. We’re losing one of the best teams out there, Jack Roush, and I think Kyle is going to step right in their place and put some great trucks out there and have more competitive racing.

DENISE MALOOF: Ron, thank you very much. We’ll see you very soon.

(Jan. 11, 2009) – In his first time out in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, Joey Logano took home the championship trophy. Last year, he nearly did it again.

Logano hopes the third time is the charm in his quest to become a two-time winner. Logano, who was in Lake Placid, N.Y., over the weekend for the Fifth Annual Lucas Oil Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge presented by Whelen Engineering – which he won – confirmed that he will enter the “Daytona 500 of short-track racing” at the Toyota Speedway in Irwindale (Calif.) on Jan. 29-30.

“I’m really excited to have an opportunity to get back out to the Toyota Speedway for the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown,” Logano said. “I had a lot of fun last year and we are going try and get the trophy back this year.”

Logano, the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year winner, will carry the trademark orange of his Sprint Cup Series sponsor Home Depot in the event. But the car will have distinct NASCAR Camping World Series roots – he will drive for series veteran Mike Olsen.

Logano appreciates the importance of the series, which thrust him into the national spotlight. He won the Showdown as a 17-year-old in the Fall of 2007 to cap off his NASCAR Camping World Series East championship season.

When he was looking for a car owner to field him a car capable of winning the race, he turned to Olsen, a two-time NASCAR Camping World Series East champion as a driver who has transitioned to being a car owner in the series.

In addition, Logano will run his first race with his new NASCAR Nationwide Series crew chief, Kevin Kidd, atop the pit box.
“We are really excited to have The Home Depot on board with us for the weekend,” Logano said. “Mike Olson from Fadden Racing stepped up and is going to provide us a solid car for the weekend. We have Kevin Kidd coming out with us to call the race so we feel like we have a pretty good shot.”

Logano set the series mark for youngest pole winner and race winner during his NASCAR Camping World Series East championship season. While both records have since been eclipsed by Brett Moffitt, Logano has gone on to become the youngest winner in NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series history.

Last year, he returned to Irwindale with Joe Gibbs Racing. Logano looked like he was on his way to a second win before losing the lead on a late-race restart. His bid for a last-corner, last-lap pass of race leader Peyton Sellers resulted in him making contact with Sellers. Sellers spun and Logano crossed the finish line first. However, a subsequent penalty on Logano for the move meant Matt Kobyluck became the first two-time winner of the all-star event.

The seventh running of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown will be highlighted by the 225-lap Camping World Series all-star race. Each race winner during the 2009 Camping World Series East and West seasons is eligible for a protected starting spot, as are the 2009 champions from each of NASCAR’s six regional touring series and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion.
Logano will face some of the best short-track drivers in North America. Early commitments include Camping World Series champions Ryan Truex (East) and Jason Bowles (West), two-time Showdown winner Matt Kobyluck, Sean Caisse, Eric Holmes, Jim Inglebright, David Mayhew, Eddie MacDonald, Steve Park and Greg Pursley.

In addition to eligible 2009 race winners and series champions, the starting lineup will be determined through time trials, limited provisionals for Camping World Series regulars, and the last-chance “Open” race that provides drivers one final chance to make the grid.

The 2010 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown schedule also includes 100-lap Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model and 75-lap Late Model races. Both nights of racing will air live on SPEED.

Headlining the 12-race calendar is a NASCAR Camping World Series East race on Saturday, August 28. The event marks a return of NASCAR to the track which originally opened with a NASCAR Late Model Sportsman (now Nationwide) race in 1967.

Also joining to the Gresham Motorsports Park mix of 2010 events will be two USARacing Pro Cup races. The former Hooters Pro Cup division – a staple at GMP for years when the track was known as Peach State Speedway – will take to the Gresham Motorsports Park high banks Saturday, March 27 and Saturday, October 23.

Not to be overlooked, GMP’s signature event – The World Crown 300 – will return again in 2010 with a new format. The 27th-Annual race will be contested November 11-14 and will feature more bang for the buck with the return of the Super Late Model division as the featured attraction in the 300-lap headline event.

The Pro Late Models will again be a part of the World Crown 300 schedule events competing in a 150-lap main event on Saturday, November 13. That race – which will also have a Truck division feature – is expected to draw a top field of cars including four-time and defending World Crown 300 champion Paul Kelley.

Super and Pro Late Model teams planning on participating in the 2010 World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park are encouraged to enter now as the order for transporter parking, technical inspection, tire selection and qualifying position will be determined by the date which their entry form is received.

Meanwhile, the 2010 World Crown 300 will also feature a full program of Outlaw Late Models and Renegade Street Stocks on Thursday, November 11. The INEX/600 Racing Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Cars will return the Gresham Motorsports Park quarter-mile oval on Friday, November 12 while the Super Late Models will hit the half-mile with pole qualifying for Sunday’s World Crown 300 classic that evening as well.

The rest of the 2010 Gresham Motorsports Park will feature a mix of Super and Pro Late Model spectaculars. The Super Late Models will make their first 2010 GMP appearance on Saturday, March 13. Additional GMP Super Late Model/local division events are scheduled for June 19, July 17, and September 18.

The Pro Late Model division cars will be featured at GMP four times in 2010. The first event is set for Saturday, April 17 with additional Pro Late Model dates scheduled for May 15, August 14, and October 9.

An open test for all Super, Pro and Outlaw Late Models, Trucks, Renegades, USAR Pro Cup and NASCAR Camping World Series East competitors will be held on Saturday, February 28.

Vehicle rules for the 2010 Super and Pro Late Model, Renegade, Truck and Iceman Late Model divisions have been posted on www.GreshamMotorsportsPark.com.

Please note that approved head and neck restraint systems are mandatory for all divisions.

The 2010 Gresham Motorsports Park schedule of events for other forms of motorsports such as Drifting and Motorcycle spectaculars will be announced at a later date.

Competing in his Rookie season in 2009, Goess finished fifth in points with 2 top-5s and 12 top-10s. During the 21-race season, Goess raced to a career-best third place finish at Pocono Raceway.

“We’re excited to have Craig back for another season,” said Sharp. “He’s a great, talented young man and the first driver to start a domino effect for ESR to build upon last season’s championship run and compete for a championship in the 2010 season.”

A Woodbury, N.J. native and current Greenville, N.C. resident, Goess previously competed nationwide in various levels of racing. The 28-year-old earned more than 200 feature wins at 24 tracks in the Semi-Pro and Pro divisions. From 2005-2007, Goess won 40 out of 48 entered events, claiming three National Pro Division Championships since 2001.

Moving further up the ranks in his career, Goess competed in the NASCAR Camping World Series East Division in 2008 running the No. 2 Greenville Toyota for ESR. In only 12 starts, Goess earned 1 top-5 and 3 top-10s, finishing 16th in points.

“I hope to get some wins under my belt in ARCA this year and look forward to working with ESR again,” said Goess. “They’re a great organization to race for and hopefully we can build momentum from last year into 2010.”

Eddie Sharp set up shop in Denver, N.C., located just outside of Charlotte. Since beginning in 2005, ESR has become the “team to beat” after winning the ARCA Championship with current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Justin Lofton in 2009. With a facility that closely resembles a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team, the ESR facilities contain room for four top-caliber racing teams.

In 2009, the four man driving team of ESR collaboratively scored a championship, 5th, 7th and 11th in season-ending standings. The entire ESR program, known as Team ESR to its employees, is dedicated and passionate for winning in ARCA and advancing its drivers further in their career to eventually run in NASCAR.

“Camping World Series East Runner-Up Looking For First Win In Irwindale”

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 7, 2009) – Following the best season of his NASCAR Camping World Series East career, Eddie MacDonald will look to carry his momentum to the postseason NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, Jan. 29-30, in Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.).

MacDonald, from Rowley, Mass., finished the 2009 campaign just 34 points behind Camping World Series East Champion Ryan Truex in the final standings. A win in the September race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway – which clinched MacDonald a starting spot in the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown – highlighted a season in which he registered a series-high 10 top-10 finishes, and earned the first two Coors Light Pole Awards of his career.

The runner-up finish was his best in the nine years in the series.

“We had hoped for more wins this year, but we were just trying to get more consistent,” MacDonald said. “I was real happy with how everything went in 2009. It was a great season.”

The seventh running of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, which brings together the top racers from across North America for the ”Daytona 500 of short-track racing,” will be highlighted by the 225-lap Camping World Series all-star race. Each race winner during the 2009 Camping World Series East and West seasons is eligible for a protected starting spot, as are the 2009 champions from each of NASCAR’s six regional touring series and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion.

MacDonald joins Camping World Series champions Ryan Truex (East) and Jason Bowles (West), as well as two-time Showdown winner Matt Kobyluck, Camping World Series East driver Steve Park and Greg Pursley from the Camping World Series West as early confirmed participants in the all-star race.

MacDonald has participated in five of the first six NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdowns, with two top 10s, including a best finish of fifth in 2007.

“There’s no other racing going on for us anywhere, so it’s kind of nice to break up the middle of the winter by going out there,” said MacDonald, who has failed to finish the race three times, including last year when he was caught up in an accident and finished 27th. “We’ve got to find a way to get through the first segment and be fast for the last 50 laps and trying to get a win rather than be in the infield.”

MacDonald hasn’t had all bad luck there, but his team is looking forward to the 2010 edition as an opportunity to get a better handle on the track.

“It’s a fun track, it’s just a little different for to get a consistent set-up, for us anyway,” MacDonald said. “We’ve got a couple different ideas we’re really looking forward to trying, so hopefully we’ll unload off the trailer and be fast enough to just fine tune on it, and have a good race.”

“We had great practices,” said Gresham, who timed in second in the Friday morning test session leading up to qualifying later that day. “The guys were really excited and everyone was looking forward to the race. Then the bottom kind of fell out of things.”

Gresham’s dreams of winning the 42nd-annual event began to go south in qualifying Friday evening when cold conditions and a loose racecar knocked him from the ranks of contender for the win to a spot in the last-chance qualifying race.

“Qualifying was a big disappointment,” said Gresham, who timed in 39th in the massive 58-car field that tried to make the race. “We were second in the first practice Friday and really confident in getting into the show and running well in the race. Then we went out for qualifying and everything kind of went south.”

Gresham and his team regrouped Saturday morning and were poised to make a run at one of the final four Snowball Derby starting positions awarded in the 50-lap Last Chance event. Unfortunately, the Griffin, GA teenager wasn’t on the gas long after the drop of the green flag as his window net came down on the second circuit.

“That was the first time that ever happened to me and it really dumbfounded me,” Gresham stated. “I held it up for a lap or two and then we got a caution. I tried to put it back up and I was really close a couple of times. I thought I had it once, but then I hit a bump on the track and it knocked it loose again. There was nothing I could do by come into the pits to get it hooked back up.”

That’s where things took a terminal turn for Gresham.

“As I was leaving the pits, the rear end came out of the car,” Gresham stated. “I don’t think I left real hard. It just spit right out in pieces on pit road. That ended it for us. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be for me to make my first Snowball Derby this year.”

While his initial Pensacola Derby weekend didn’t turn out to be what he had hoped, Gresham’s 2009 racing season was anything but a disappointment. Two American Speed Association Southeast Asphalt Tour event wins early in the year and four solid showings in the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR Camping World Series East division highlighted the campaign for the young driver.

“We had a great season, regardless of what happened here this weekend,” said Gresham. “We ran third at Iowa Speedway and notched an outside pole and eighth-place run at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the Gibbs car and our Gresham Motorsports team won early in the year. We added a couple of people to our team this year that really helped us. They had a big influence and overall, I think we had a great year. We were blessed to have the success we had with both the Gibbs car and our own effort. I can’t wait to get going again next season.”

“This will be my first time running the Derby,” said Gresham. “We ran really well in the Snowflake 100 at Pensacola last year and turned in a strong seventh-place finish. Honestly, about the only thing that’s different between the two races is the increased horsepower in the Super Late Model car and the longer distance of the Derby. I know my Gresham Motorsports team has gone all out to give me the best opportunity to do well this weekend. Now it’s just up to me to do my best.”

The last time Gresham visited the Five Flags half-mile oval on September 25, the racing fates weren’t on his side as a Lap 1 crash eliminated him from the Blizzard 100.

“That was my first-ever attempt at a Super Late Model race and needless to say, it didn’t turn out too good for us,” said Gresham. “We took the green and everything felt good coming up off Turn 2. I ran up on the guy in front of me through Turns 3-4 before someone five or six cars in front of me got loose. The guy in front of me also got way loose and in an effort to miss him, I turned left down the banking. The car just got out from under me and I slid into the inside retaining wall pretty hard. The impact tore up the left front suspension pretty bad and we were done for the night.”

Max Gresham

While his initial Pensacola Super Late Model effort got short-circuited, the rest of Gresham’s 2009 season has been electric. The 16-year-old high school Junior student at Woodward Academy in College Park, GA won a pair of American Speed Association Southeast Asphalt Tour events early in the year and then followed it up with four solid showings in the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR Camping World Series East division. Gresham ran third at Iowa Speedway and notched an outside pole and eighth-place run at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to highlight the Gibbs’ association.

Last time out, the Griffin, GA teenager raced his way from a lap down to lead late and eventually finish second in the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park. The November 15 effort was later erased when a post-race technical violation dropped him to 38th in the final running order.

“We had a great effort there,” said Gresham. “We were good at the end of that race and I know that we will be good at the end of the race Sunday. With a little luck, we’re going to be up there racing for it at the end of the day. To win the Snowball Derby would really be something for me and my Gresham Motorsports team. If you win that race, you are the Top Dog for a whole year.”

The 42nd-Annual Snowball Derby Park will take the green flag at 10 a.m. Central Time on Thursday, December 4 with alternating rounds of Super and Late Model Stock Car practice. Friday’s action will be highlighted by qualifying for the Snowball Derby at 6 p.m. to be followed by feature event action in the Modified and Super Stock divisions. Saturday’s bill of events includes a last-chance race for the Snowball Derby, qualifying for the Snowflake 100, two last-chance races for the Snowflake 100, and the Snowflake 100 itself beginning at 7 p.m.

Sunday’s 42nd-Annual Snowball Derby will roll off at 2 p.m. Central Time Sunday. The event can be heard live on the Internet on www.Speed51.com.

(Nov. 26, 2009) – In 2009, Matt Kobyluck became the first driver to earn multiple NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown victories. This coming January, he will look to add to that total.

Kobyluck, a long-time competitor and past champion in the NASCAR Camping World Series East that hails from Uncasville, Conn., has declared his intentions to return to Toyota Speedway at Irwindale (Calif.) on Jan. 29-30 with hopes of earning a third NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown trophy.

“We’re going to go out there and try to knock off another one,” Kobyluck said. “It’s such a great event, and such a great feeling to get a big win like that. You’re competing against the best talent there is out there.”

The seventh running of the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, which brings together the top racers from across North America for the ”Daytona 500 of short-track racing,” will be highlighted by the 225-lap Camping World Series all-star race. Each race winner during the 2009 Camping World Series season is eligible for a protected starting spot, as are the 2009 champions from each of NASCAR’s six regional touring series and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion.

Kobyluck has been arguably the best driver in the six-year history of the event. The 2008 Camping World Series East champion earned his first NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown victory in 2006 after finishing as the event’s runner-up the two previous seasons. His second triumph – this past January – came after a last-lap incident between race leaders Joey Logano and Peyton Sellers that resulted in Kobyluck going to Victory Lane.

“Toyota, Irwindale and NASCAR all put on a great program to go compete at, and SPEED does a great job televising it for us,” Kobyluck said. “It’s a great event to be involved with, and we look forward to going out there again with Mohegan Sun as our primary sponsor and try to pull off another win.”

Grimes, Iowa (November 25, 2009) – During Champions Week in Concord, NC, Brett Moffitt celebrated a spectacular first year of NASCAR racing, which began while Moffitt was just sixteen years old. The 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series East season-ending banquet was held last week in the Embassy Suites Hotel Concord Convention Center, near the NASCAR Research & Development Center, the future NASCAR Hall of Fame complex, and also in close proximity to Charlotte, NC, the home base of many of the NASCAR race teams.

During Saturday night’s NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards Gala, Moffitt, a rookie and a serious contender for the 2009 NCWSE championship, graced the awards stage twice. After being presented with the trophy and points fund check for finishing third in the overall season points standings, Moffitt was called back to the stage to receive the prestigious Most Improved Driver of the 2009 Season award.

Moffitt and his Andy Santerre Motorsports team ended the season on a high note, finishing in second place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and winning the final 2009 event on the Monster Mile at Dover in a dominating fashion. Dover was also Santerre’s last event as a team owner. With this win, Moffitt and team scored their second victory of the season. Moffitt and the ASM Team gave notice of their strength during the first race of the 2009 season at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, when the rookie won the pole in his series debut. Moffitt went on to score six top fives and nine top tens, finishing the season a mere sixty points behind series veteran, Eddie McDonald, and only ninety-four points behind fellow rookie competitor and Michael Waltrip development driver, Ryan Truex. Only two other rookie drivers cracked the top ten in 2009; Alan Tardiff finished seventh, while Alex Kennedy took the tenth spot.

Moffitt also managed to embed his name in the NASCAR history book, first becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a pole at the season opener, then becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a race during the fourth event of 2009 at South Boston Speedway, and finally, becoming the youngest driver in history to lead the points in a NASCAR series, which he accomplished with a third place finish during NCWSE event number five at Watkins Glen International. These three records had previously been held by another up and coming young NASCAR driver, Joey Logano. When asked if he had it in for Logano, the rookie Moffitt replied, “Not really. I am just trying to make a mark for myself, hoping to attract some attention and gain some support, so I can continue to climb the ladder in the world of professional stock car racing.”

Earlier in the championship week, Moffitt and his father, Dick, took advantage of their stay in the hub of NASCAR racing by visiting several ARCA teams and two prominent NASCAR Sprint, Nationwide, and Camping World series team owners, in preparation for the 2010 racing season. Moffitt’s 2009 mentor, Andy Santerre, himself a multiple series champion and one of the most highly-regarded NCWSE owners, has since sold his team and is moving on to other opportunities. Santerre commented, “What I want people to remember about Brett and his 2009 season is that he started the season as a sixteen year old rookie, competing in only his second year in stock cars on asphalt.

He raced against NASCAR veterans, as well as several rookies who all had a lot more seat time in the NASCAR type of cars than he did. On top of that, our team was one of the most underfunded teams in the NCWSE. Brett is one of the most talented drivers competing in the NCWSE today. He raced and made decisions on the race track at a maturity level well beyond his age and experience. Race after race, he used a calm demeanor to face whatever situation he was put into. He completed races and brought an unscathed car back to the garage on all four wheels, with all four fenders on it. He was a quick study, he is humble, and he was one of the most pleasurable drivers I have ever had the opportunity to work with. I sincerely hope someone will pick him up and keep him racing. He definitely has the talent to compete in NASCAR’s big league someday.”

When asked about his son’s plans for 2010, Brett’s father, Dick, commented, “We hope our first race will be the Toyota All-Star Event on January 29thand 30th at Irwindale Speedway. Brett is qualified, and we are talking to some teams. All we need is for the right deal to fall into place.” Regarding the balance of the 2010 season, talks with potential teams are ongoing. With the right package in place, Moffitt would like to compete for the championship in the NASCAR Camping World Series East, and when scheduling permits, he would also like to compete in as many races as he can with the ARCA RE/MAX Series. This could include as many as twelve or thirteen events, based on the tracks on which he can compete while he is still seventeen, plus the remaining events that are scheduled after his eighteenth birthday. Of course, Moffitt’s 2010 schedule is contingent on the right sponsorship/partnership package. Based on his accomplishments, and with the ability Moffitt has demonstrated, the right deal is certainly just around the corner.

In his short racing career, Moffitt won the coveted WKA Triple Crown at the age of thirteen and a Golden Driller at the Tulsa Shoot-Out in only his third year racing in karts. In 2007, at the age of fourteen, he drove his first race car, competing in an IMCA SportMod. Moffitt raced in seventy-six events and captured twenty-six feature wins, including the 2007 Harris Clash Championship, where he became the youngest driver in the history of Knoxville Raceway (Iowa) to win a feature event. Moffitt was also the All-Iowa SportMod State Champion in 2007. At fifteen, Moffitt competed for the first time on asphalt as a regular in the ASA Late Model Series North, where he finished second in the series point standings and was crowned its 2008 Rookie of the Year. Also in 2008, Moffitt set several track records while competing with ASALMS and became the youngest driver in its history to qualify for the prestigious Slinger Nationals, a record previously held by a then seventeen year old Matt Kenseth.

In his first race in a Super Late Model during the 2008 season-ending 39th Annual Oktoberfest, Moffitt set two quick times, and event officials awarded Brett Moffitt the Al Schilling “Young Gun Award” for his accomplishments during the 2008 Oktoberfest Race Weekend. At sixteen, and in the fourth different kind of race car in as many years, Moffitt’s accomplishments speak for themselves. While competing in the NCWSE, in only his second year behind the wheel of a stock car on asphalt, his final race of the 2009 season was his first-ever ARCA RE/MAX Series race at the Rockingham Speedway, and the result was a very respectable tenth place run. Brett Moffitt continues to showcase his drive, desire, talent, and ability to become a professional stock car driver. Certainly, the deal and the help Moffitt is looking for is just around the corner.

Stay tuned! Without a doubt, there is more to come in 2010!

Truex, a development driver for Michael Waltrip Racing, registered three wins and eight top 10s during the 2009 Camping World Series East season. He became just the second driver in series history, along with Joey Logano, to win the title and Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the same season.

Logano followed up his 2007 championship season by winning the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, something Truex hopes to replicate.

“I’ve never raced at Irwindale before, so that adds another level of excitement for me,” Truex said. “Everyone talks about how great the track is, so I can’t wait to get the NAPA Auto Parts Camry out there and see what we can do.”

The No. 00 Toyota will have a new look for the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown as team owner Michael Waltrip wanted to do something special for the event. The all-white car Truex ran during the 2009 season will be transformed to blue for Irwindale, with a paint scheme that NAPA and MWR are currently designing.

Truex, from Mayetta, N.J., plans to return to the Camping World Series East in 2010 to defend his title. MWR also intends to enter him in select NASCAR Nationwide Series races during the second half of the 2010 season. Truex does not turn 18 until next March.

In addition to eligible 2009 race winners and series champions, the starting lineup for the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown will be determined through time trials, limited provisionals for Camping World Series regulars, and the last-chance “Open” race that provides drivers one final chance to make the grid.

The 2010 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown schedule also includes 100-lap Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model and 75-lap Late Model races. Both nights of racing will air on SPEED.

According to Gresham Motorsports Park General Manager, the Camping World Series East race will mark the return of NASCAR to the historic half-mile Georgia oval on Saturday, August 28, 2010.

“This is a great day for us,” said Elliott. “Gresham Motorsports Park opened as Jefco Speedway in 1967 and the first event was a NASCAR Sportsman (now Nationwide) race won by ‘Tiger’ Tom Pistone. Later, NASCAR greats Cale Yarborough and Bobby Isacc won what are now NASCAR Sprint Cup races here. To say we are elated to have a NASCAR event back on our schedule is an understatement.”

The previous incarnation of the NASCAR Camping World Series East division actually has competed at GMP. On July 24, 1968, Tiny Lund won a NASCAR Grand Touring Series at the then named Jefco Speedway. Lund would win another Grand Touring event – the Bulldog 400 – at Jefco on March 16, 1969.

In 2009, the NASCAR Camping World Series East contested 11 races including events at Watkins Glen International, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Dover International Speedway and Iowa Speedway.

The GMP NASCAR event is just one of 12 high-profile oval track races the former Peach State Speedway will stage in 2010. Purchased by the Gresham family in January, the track was closed all season as the facility was leveled and replaced with a state-of-the-art facility. In addition to the complete makeover that included all new racing surfaces and lighting, a drive-thru Infield Tech Center, new grandstands, rest rooms and concession facilities were also constructed. The track is also one of the most technologically advanced in the country featuring 7-loop data/scoring capacity and wireless, remote control solar powered track safety lighting.

The announcement of the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series East race was made at the 26th-Annual World Crown 300 this weekend – the inaugural event at the new Gresham Motorsports Park track.

(Nov. 14, 2009) – NASCAR has announced the 2010 schedule for the NASCAR Camping World Series East that include a total of 10 events across eight states.

“The NASCAR Camping World Series continues to visit key markets and top race tracks up and down the East Coast,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR Managing Director of Racing Operations. “The diverse schedule should provide for an exciting season of racing and an excellent opportunity for NASCAR’s rising stars to gain experience.”

The 2010 season will be highlighted by three companion events with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. New Hampshire Motor Speedway will have its traditional events on June 25 and Sept. 17 in Loudon, N.H., while the champion will once again be crowned at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Sept. 24.

New to the Camping World Series East schedule in 2010 will be the high-banked half mile of Gresham Motorsports Park. The Jefferson, Ga., track is on the schedule for Aug. 28.

A pair of familiar venues will also return to the Camping World Series East schedule in 2010. Historic Martinsville (Va.) Speedway played host to the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Series East – then known as the Busch and Busch North Series – for combination races in 1989 and 1990, and a return engagement is slated for June 6. And after a five-year absence, Lee USA Speedway will welcome back the East for a date on July 30. The .375-mile oval was the site of 16 Camping World Series East from 1992-2004.

The Camping World Series East and West will converge on Iowa Speedway for the fourth year in a row for the prestigious combination race on May 23 in Newton, Iowa. The first three editions of the event have attracted also NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standouts Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne and Kyle Busch.

Other 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series East schedule highlights include:

· The 24th season of the Camping World Series East will commence at Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway on March 27, two weeks earlier than last year. It will mark the fifth season in a row the half-mile track has played host to the East.

· April 3 will see South Boston (Va.) Speedway bring the Camping World Series East in for a doubleheader with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. The venerable .4-mile oval has held East races since 2007. This will be the earliest that South Boston has been on the calendar.

· The 1.53-mile road course at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., will return to the schedule on June 6 for the 18th time since 1993. The race had been run in mid-August the two previous seasons.

· The Martinsville and Lime Rock races will be doubleheaders with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

The schedule announcement was made from the site of the NASCAR Touring Series Awards Gala in Concord, N.C., where Camping World Series titlists Ryan Truex (East) and Jason Bowles (West) and the rest of the touring series champions will be honored Saturday night. Fans can watch the live online stream at www.nascarhometracks.com at 7 p.m. ET.

“This year’s World Crown 300 is going to be an interesting experience for us,” said Gresham. “We’ll be racing on an all-new track, one that is owned by my grandfather. It’s my name on the racetrack too, so you know I want to do well. We want to do that at every race, but given the circumstances, this is one event that we are extremely focused on. That’s the way we approach every race. I don’t think there is any extra pressure. It’s the World Crown 300 – just trying to win that race is enough to keep our team digging hard.”

Gresham has had an impressive 2010 season.

Last week, Gresham qualified fourth in his second-ever Super Late Model event – the CRA North / South 125 Shootout at Concord (NC) Motorsports Park. He eventually finished 14th after losing power steering in his No. 7-11 Gresham Motorsports entry halfway through the race.

Now, Gresham will face one of his biggest challenges of the season in the World Crown 300 this weekend.

“We had a really good car last year,” said Gresham, who finished ninth in the 2009 WC 300 classic. “We were allowed eight tires for the race and we tried a different pit strategy. We saved a set of right-side tires for the end of the race and the cautions didn’t fall the way we wanted them to, so we never got to use them. That kind of hurt us, but we still had one of the fastest cars at the end of the race and that gives us a lot of confidence coming into this year’s World Crown 300.”

As for this year’s race, Gresham has his sights set high.

“Of course, winning the World Crown 300 would be extremely special,” said Gresham. “Knowing all the time and effort that everyone – my grandfather, dad, and the staff of the speedway – have put into that place to turn it into something special would make winning there even sweeter. It would be really sweet for my team too. It would be great to win the first-ever race at Gresham Motorsports Park for a lot of reasons.”

The 26th-Annual World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park will take the green flag Friday, November 13, with the first-ever appearance of the INEX/600 Racing Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Cars taking to the freshly minted GMP quarter- and half-mile ovals.

Saturday’s action will feature racing in four divisions – Iceman Late Models, Mini-Stocks, Renegades and Trucks – as well as Late Model Monolith Companies Pole Award qualifying to see who will lead the field to the start of Sunday’s World Crown 300.

Sunday’s race will roll off at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.

No. 3 Realtree Outfitters Chevrolet Silverado

Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event: Mountain Dew 250 powered by Fred’s – October 31, 2009

Venue: Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway

· This Weekend’s Realtree Outfitters Chevrolet Silverado at Talladega Superspeedway … Austin Dillon will pilot Chassis No. 019 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stable in this weekend’s Mountain Dew 250 powered by Fred’s. This Chevrolet was purchased from Kevin Harvick, Inc. earlier this season. In 2008, KHI’s Ron Hornaday drove this former No. 33 Silverado at Daytona International Speedway. He started fifth and was running second when the o-ring on the oil pump broke, resulting in a 25th-place finish. Since then, this chassis was used as a back-up race truck.

· First Timer … The Lewisville, N.C., native will not only make his restrictor plate debut when he takes the green flag for Saturday’s 150-mile race at Talladega, he will also become the first driver to start a restrictor-plate Truck Series race for RCR. Childress ended his truck series program in 1999 to purse racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, one year before the inaugural NCWTS restrictor-plate race occurred at Daytona International Speedway in February 2000.

· Dillon’s Third Truck Race … In two previous truck series starts, Dillon has earned 12th- and 15th-place finishes at Iowa Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway, respectively. He boasts a 6.5 average start and has completed 399 of 400 laps contested.

· Family Values … Dillon is a third-generation NASCAR driver. His grandfather, Richard Childress, made 285 Sprint Cup Series starts between 1969 and 1981, earning six top-five and 76 top-10 finishes. Austin’s father, Mike Dillon, drove from 1995 to 2001 in each of NASCAR’s top-three series, including three starts in the NCWTS from 1997 to 1998.

· Back to Where it All Started … Dillon’s grandfather, Richard Childress made his debut at Talladega in 1969. Forty years later, his Welcome, N.C.,-based organization has earned 12 championships among NASCAR’s top-three series, seven in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (Dale Earnhardt – 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1994), five in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (Kevin Harvick – 2001, Harvick and Johnny Sauter – 2003, Harvick – 2006, Jeff Burton and Scott Wimmer – 2007, and Clint Bowyer – 2008) and one in the NCWTS (Mike Skinner- 1995). Childress is the first owner to win championships in all three divisions.

· Multitasking … While pursuing his racing career, the 19-year-old Dillon is currently enrolled as a freshman at High Point University, where he is studying at the Nido R. Quebin School of Communications. Earlier this season, the university sponsored Dillon in a NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Iowa Speedway.

· Dillon Familiar with the No. 3 … Over the past two seasons, Dillon has raced the No. 3 Chevrolet in 15 NASCAR Camping World Series East starts, earning one win, seven top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. Additionally, Dillon has driven Team Dillon Racing’s No. 3 Asphalt and Dirt Late Models since 2005.

· History of the No. 3 Truck … The 19-year-old driver is the third driver to compete in RCR’s No. 3 entry, joining Mike Skinner, who drove the GM Goodwrench-sponsored entry from 1995 to 1996, and Jay Sauter, who took the reigns in 1997 and drove the No. 3 truck until 1999.

· RCR’s Truck History … This weekend marks the 132nd start by an RCR entry in a NCWTS event. In all, RCR-prepared trucks have earned 20 wins, including the series’ inaugural race in 1995 with Skinner at Phoenix International Speedway. Along with Skinner, drivers including Mike Dillon, Bill Cooper, Dave Marcis, Jay Sauter and Jim Sauter have recorded 59 top-five and 85 top-10 finishes for the organization. Skinner captured the inaugural NCWTS championship title for RCR in 1995.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

What does it mean to be racing at Talladega?

“I’m really excited about this weekend. It is going to be one of the biggest thrills I’ve experienced, so far, in my career. I’ll be in the No. 3 truck and that number means a lot to the great fans that show up to Talladega each year. I’m also excited to get the chance to run where my grandfather started his entire racing career 40 years ago which, in itself, is something special for my entire family to be a part of together.”

What are your goals this weekend?

“Talladega is a big intimidating track, but we’re looking to go out there and be aggressive in single car runs during practice. We’re not sure how much drafting we’ll be doing because we don’t have a back-up Realtree Outfitters Chevrolet with us. We want to show off the Earnhardt-Childress Engines for sure and start towards the front. Once the race begins, I’m going to learn all I can about drafting, but at the same time, I want to be competitive.”

DAN DEERINGHOFF (Crew Chief) Quote:

What are your goals this weekend?

“Talladega is a place where you have to have a car that goes fast. You don’t worry too much about handling because the track is so smooth. With it being Austin’s first time on a superspeedway, we’re going to use a lot of the time during practice to get him settled into the track and have him ride around alone. If we draft, it won’t be for too long, because the last thing we want to do it get caught in someone else’s mistake before we even get to take the green flag. Our first goal is to make it to the end of the race and, if we have a competitive car, finish strong.”
