Newberry and crew knew going into race weekend this was a tough track, but they were up for the challenge, and looking to gain experience and finish the race. The rookie worked with veteran crew chief Eddie Pardue throughout practice fighting a loose truck, the same condition as his teammates. After logging some laps and getting a good feel for his Silverado, Newberry finished practice in the 15th position, lining him up to qualify 24th.
