DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 25, 2012) — NASCAR drivers aren’t in the business of folding, so the year’s first NASCAR Foundation fundraiser might pose a challenge.

The NASCAR Foundation Chairwoman Betty Jane France and foundation board member Rusty Wallace will host NASCAR’s finest during the heart of Speedweeks for “High Speed Hold ’Em on the Halifax” on Feb. 22 from 7-10 p.m. at the new clubhouse of MG on the Halifax.

This unique event will pit drivers, celebrities, poker pros and one lucky fan against each other in a Pro-Am Texas Hold ’Em Style Poker Tournament with proceeds benefiting The NASCAR Foundation and Speediatrics. MG on the Halifax, the luxury waterfront community just minutes from Daytona International Speedway, is partnering with The NASCAR Foundation to host the inaugural “High Speed Hold ‘Em on the Halifax.”

“What a great night this is going to be … a lot of fun and all for some worthy causes,” said The NASCAR Foundation Chairwoman Betty Jane France. “The NASCAR Foundation, Speediatrics and poker – I love them all. People who know me can attest to that. This evening is going to be memorable and meaningful. I can’t wait.”

Founded by France in 1999, Speediatrics is a NASCAR-themed pediatrics unit and is the only one of its kind in Central Florida that cares for more than 2,000 children each year, including about 300 of those receiving care in the Pediatric ICU.

The event will be overseen by Honorary Tournament Director Annie Duke, Commissioner of the Epic Poker League and best-selling author of “Decide to Play Great Poker.”

“I am so pleased to play my part in this inaugural tournament to support The NASCAR Foundation’s Speediatrics Program,” Duke said. “I’m looking forward to throttling up the action with Betty Jane and Rusty as we raise funds for this great cause.”

In addition to Duke’s participation, each of the 22 tables at the event will seat at least one celebrity or professional poker player. The grand prize for the tournament is entry into an Epic Poker Pro/Am event valued at $1,500.

Devoted fans support The NASCAR Foundation throughout the year, and one fortunate fan can win a chance to go “All In” and play with the pros. For details, go to www.EventsatMGontheHalifax.com

The event also features a charity art auction and exclusive entertainment by singer/songwriter Eric Lee Beddingfield.

“MG on the Halifax is the perfect facility to host this special evening,” foundation board member and MG on the Halifax resident Rusty Wallace said. “It is in the neighborhood of the Speediatrics unit at Halifax Health Medical Center and it demonstrates their commitment to the community in a significant and exciting way.”

The Feb. 22 benefit marks the grand opening of MG’s new 11,000 square foot clubhouse and fitness center.

“We are honored to partner with The NASCAR Foundation to showcase what promises to be an unforgettable night in a week of big events for Daytona and the entire racing community,” said Brett Dill, president of the MG on the Halifax ownership group. “I can’t think of a better way to open our clubhouse than to help a center that provides for the care and comfort of young patients.”

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 18, 2011) – The NASCAR Foundation today helped kick off Homestead Hospital’s capital campaign to build and equip a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with a check presentation for $250,000. The presentation was officially made by The NASCAR Foundation Founder and Chairwoman, Betty Jane France, during a special ceremony hosted by NASCAR President Mike Helton at Homestead Hospital’s Speediatrics Unit.

Creating a Level II NICU is a top priority, as more than 150 babies born each year at Homestead Hospital need intensive care that currently is provided only at hospitals located more than 20 miles away. This distance between hospital and home creates hardships for families and interferes with the parental bonding that is so vital to a newborn’s health during the first weeks of life. A Level II NICU at Homestead Hospital will allow these babies and their families to stay close to home while receiving the care they need.

The NASCAR Foundation, through Betty Jane France and her Speediatrics unit, has played a crucial role in the success of Homestead Hospital’s pediatric programs. The unique unit is one of only two in the country founded by France and is the only Emergency Center in south Miami-Dade County dedicated to children. Brought to Homestead Hospital in 2002, more than 23,000 patient visits a year are handled in the Speediatrics Children’s Emergency Center.

“We are proud to make this donation to benefit Homestead Hospital’s capital campaign,” said France. “It really is an honor for the foundation and Speediatrics to be involved with Homestead Hospital. This is all about improving the quality of life for children who are patients at the facility. That’s a great goal to aspire to; this donation is a huge step in that direction.”

Part of the donation made by The NASCAR Foundation will be used to purchase Giraffe OmniBed Isolete Incubators, which are the most advanced and developmentally supportive microenvironments available today. The beds combine state of the art technology and thermal performance to create a healing environment for intensively ill newborns.

In addition, the ceremony honored Betty Jane France for her vision, work and dedication to Speediatrics at Homestead Hospital and Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., the first hospital to receive the racing-themed pediatric center. A portrait of Mrs. France was unveiled during the ceremony, which will be permanently on display in the Speediatrics unit.

(May 10, 2011) – On Friday, May 20 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Auto Club Speedway will host the second annual “Jaylen’s Car Wash” – all in an effort to make one little boy’s, and thousands of other children’s dreams, come true. And when we’re done washing your car on pit road, dry your car off by taking a lap around the same track NASCAR stars battle bumper-to-bumper and side-by-side.

For only $20 participants will receive a pit road car wash, a lap around the track and a NASCAR Unites wristband, (all proceeds to benefit Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and The NASCAR Foundation).

Five-year-old Jaylen is a LLUCH heart patient who has a dream of becoming a NASCAR driver when he grows up. Auto Club Speedway wanted to help with his dream and hosted “Jaylen’s Car Wash” last year with just that in mind. This year, the car wash is going nationwide.

“I think it’s cool that other race tracks are washing cars like we did last year,” said Jaylen. “I hope we can wash a zillion cars this time! That would be neat.”

Last year, more than 600 dirty cars showed up to take part in “Jaylen’s Car Wash” at Auto Club Speedway. This year, Auto Club Speedway is bringing more soap, more towels, more hoses and more volunteers in hopes that “a zillion” dirty cars stop by.

The car wash, a community project launched by Auto Club Speedway in support of NASCAR Day, will be replicated by almost 20 race tracks across the U.S. as part of the “NASCAR Unites” 2011 national platform. “NASCAR Unites,” is an industry initiative led by The NASCAR Foundation that creates an opportunity for NASCAR fans, drivers, teams, tracks, sponsors, employees and more to unite and make a difference in the lives of children across the nation. “NASCAR Unites” engages the sport in a collaborative effort to support children’s causes through volunteering, fundraising, sharing inspirational stories and unifying to make a difference.

In addition to the car wash, Auto Club Speedway is offering a special NASCAR Day ticket package to attend the Auto Club 400 in 2012. This package is only available on the day of Jaylen’s Car Wash for those that come through the car wash or by calling 800.944.RACE (7223). Those purchasing the $50 package (a $95 value) at the car wash will get an extra lap around the track for free as well as:

· A lower reserved seat to the Auto Club 400 (Upgrades available at additional cost)

· Pre-Race Pit Pass

· NASCAR Unites Bracelet

· NASCAR Day Charitable Donation ($5 of each package purchased will go to the NASCAR Foundation and LLUCH)

Every car washed will make a huge difference for those in need. Since 2008, Auto Club Speedway has raised over $176,000 for charity during its NASCAR Day efforts.

Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III accepted the award from Steve Gaffney, Director of Sports Marketing for Sprint.

“On behalf of the staff at DIS, I want to thank NASCAR and the NASCAR Foundation for this fantastic recognition,” Chitwood said. “The passion the staff has at Daytona for NASCAR racing is not just about the race itself, it’s about the community, the charitable involvement and this family that we’re all in. I couldn’t be more proud of what they do on a daily basis.”

Beginning this year, the NASCAR Foundation implemented a year-long fundraising and awareness contest among NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide tracks. Tracks were awarded points for funds raised and marketing activities that they engage in with the NASCAR Foundation with the top track being awarded the NASCAR Foundation Track of the Year Award.

One of the highlights of Daytona International Speedway’s work with the NASCAR Foundation in 2010 was serving as one of the NASCAR Day “Big Five” Service Projects. As part of the program, the “World Center of Racing” hosted 100 middle school students in the Nationwide Series garages where they learned around the education side of racing.

Aimed At Education And Helping Children Live Happier, Healthier Lives

The NASCAR Foundation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 10, 2010) – The NASCAR Foundation announced today five community service projects across the country as keystone events to take place on NASCAR Day on May 21, teaming with several official NASCAR partners and aimed at education and helping children live happier, healthier lives. “The Big Five” projects include: renovation and race theme decoration of a portion of the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Atlanta, Ga.; partnering with Bank of America for a racing-themed educational initiative at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.; working with Sprint, Inc. for a playground build at the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City, Mo.; A Place for Hope project outside Charlotte, N.C., and a youth initiative at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

NASCAR Day is an annual charitable celebration of the NASCAR spirit that enables fans and corporate partners to join together to make a difference in the lives of children. Since it began in 2004, NASCAR Day has raised nearly $8 million for charity.

This year marks the first time that the Foundation has taken on multiple national service projects of this magnitude to celebrate and create awareness for children’s causes through the NASCAR Day platform.

“We are very proud of this program and what it has been able to accomplish over the past several years,” said NASCAR president and NASCAR Foundation Board Member Mike Helton. “The contributions from our fans and partners to NASCAR Day make it possible for the Foundation to take on these multiple community service projects across the country. We hope that our fans will come out to support these efforts or find a way to volunteer in their own community to help celebrate NASCAR Day.”

Fans can help support these initiatives by making a $5 donation for the 2010 NASCAR Day collectible lapel pin or by registering to volunteer at one of the service projects. For more information visit WWW.NASCAR.COM/NASCARDay.

Details of “The Big Five” projects:

* Atlanta, Ga. – Aflac, NASCAR’s official partner, and The NASCAR Foundation have partnered on the project which will involve a room renovation at the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to help give it a fresh new face-lift with a racing theme. Recognized as one of the top childhood cancer centers in the country by U.S. News & World Report, the Aflac Cancer Center treats more than 370 new cancer patients each year and follows more than 2,500 patients with sickle cell disease, hemophilia and other blood disorders.

* Daytona Beach, Fla. – Bank of America, the Official Bank of NASCAR, and The NASCAR Foundation will work together in Daytona to raise awareness for the critical role math and science play in the sport of NASCAR by bringing more than 100 middle school students to Daytona International Speedway. The NASCAR Day event is part of the “Students at the Speedway” program, the bank’s signature program designed to showcase NASCAR as a strong career path for students who are eager to learn in the areas of math, science and technology.

* Fontana, Calif. – The NASCAR Foundation has partnered with Auto Club Speedway to host a youth initiative at the track on NASCAR Day.

* Kansas City, Mo. – With the help of Sprint, an official partner of NASCAR, and hundreds of volunteers, The NASCAR Foundation will build a brand new playground at the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City. The playground will be dedicated in memory of Tom Murphy, a former Sprint Executive and NASCAR Foundation Board Member who passed away last year. The Ronald McDonald House serves more than 6,000 families per year and is desperately in need of a playground facility.

* Charlotte, N.C. / Rock Hill, S.C. – A community service project at A Place for Hope. A Place for Hope (APFH) is committed to providing material resources, hands-on educational training and job development programs, and psychological hope for the residents of Blackmon Road. The Blackmon Road Community is one of the poorest communities in South Carolina. The residents of Blackmon Road live without indoor plumbing, bathrooms or showers, without trash pick-up, without paved roads, and without street lights.

In addition to the five service projects, the contributions raised through NASCAR Day will help a variety of other organizations with an emphasis on children’s health and education. Last year, NASCAR Day funds also supported charitable organizations and non-profit programming including gifts to Kyle and Pattie Petty’s Victory Junction camp in Randleman, N.C., the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma, the Speediatrics racing-themed pediatric units and others.

One lucky fan will also win the trip of a lifetime to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas that includes airfare, hotel and two tickets to the Awards Ceremony in December 2010 through the NASCAR Day Sweepstakes. To learn more visit WWW.NASCAR.COM/NASCARDay.

(March 5, 2010) – Representatives from The NASCAR Foundation, Sprint, Inc., Ronald McDonald House, Turner Construction and Kansas Speedway broke ground today for a brand new state-of-the-art playground at the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City.

The playground is one of five community service projects across the country being hosted by The NASCAR Foundation to help celebrate NASCAR Day and will be dedicated in honor of Tom Murphy, a former Sprint Executive and NASCAR Foundation Board Member.

“The legacy of Tom Murphy both at Sprint and within the larger Kansas City community is one of selfless dedication and commitment,” said Steve Gaffney, Sprint vice president of media and sponsorship. “It is fitting that this Ronald McDonald Playground is being built in Tom’s honor as it was one of the causes related to children and families that truly inspired Tom’s dedication to charitable service. Sprint is proud to support the Ronald McDonald House and this project that will bring smiles to the faces of kids and families for many years to come.”

Throughout his adult life, Murphy was a strong supporter of the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City and served on its board of directors. His wife, Jenny, was on hand to participate in the ceremony.

“The boys and I are thrilled that The NASCAR Foundation chose to honor Tom’s memory with this incredible playground at the Ronald McDonald House,” said Jenny Murphy. “Both NASCAR and Ronald McDonald House Charities were close to Tom’s heart. It would have meant a lot to him to see these two organizations working together to make this a special place for the children and families who stay here.”

The playground, which will be built over the course of five days, May 12-16, is made possible through a generous gift by Sprint, Inc. and The NASCAR Foundation. Local construction company, Turner Construction, has also donated all of its services to make the build possible.

Annually, the Ronald McDonald House and Family Room provide lodging to nearly 6,000 families and supports over 41,000 visits from family and friends of in-patients at Children’s Mercy Hospital. The playground will provide a place for children and their families to come, relax and rejuvenate their spirits.

“The playground is an incredible gift that thousands of families will have the opportunity to enjoy each and every year,” said Holly Buckendahl, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City. “At Ronald McDonald House Charities, our hope is that families experience a sense of normalcy, hope, and comfort while staying with us, despite being far from home during difficult and stressful times. The playground is vital in helping us provide a home away from home.”

Numerous volunteers will be needed to fill shifts each day of the project. For more information or to sign up to volunteer visit WWW.NASCAR.COM/NASCARDay and click on the Ronald McDonald House Charities

Kansas City project. Fans and community members can also support the project by donating $5 for a NASCAR Day pin at the Ronald McDonald House Charities Kansas City or by going online to the NASCAR Day website.
The build is one of five keystone events to take place on NASCAR Day aimed at helping children live happier, healthier lives. The “Big Five” projects include: renovation and race theme decoration of a portion of the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service in Atlanta, Ga,; partnering with Bank of America for a racing-themed educational initiative at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.; working with Sprint, Inc. for a playground build at the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City, Mo.; A Place for Hope project outside Charlotte, N.C., and a youth initiative at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

NASCAR Day, which will occur on May 21, is an annual charitable celebration of the NASCAR spirit that enables fans and corporate partners to join together to make a difference in the lives of children. Since it began in 2004, NASCAR Day has raised nearly $8 million for charity.

This year marks the first time that The NASCAR Foundation has taken on multiple national service projects of this magnitude to celebrate and create awareness for children’s causes through the NASCAR Day platform.

“This is a monumental year for NASCAR Day,” said NASCAR Foundation Executive Director Sandy Marshall. “Through the generous support of all our partners and fans we are able to host these five keystone events across the country – something we have never undertaken before on NASCAR Day. We hope that on NASCAR Day fans will participate in these events or get involved in community service projects in their own communities that will help children live happier, healthier lives.”
