2011 NSCS No 17 Wiley X Ford Fusion Side View

Wiley X® Eyewear’s successful NASCAR sponsorship program has switched into high gear with today’s announcement of the No.17 Ford Fusion “Wiley X Sunglass Machine.” This car will be driven by perennial crowd favorite Matt Kenseth for Roush Fenway Racing and will make its nationwide debut May 7th at the Showtime Southern 500 at South Carolina’s famous Darlington Raceway. Kenseth will also drive this specially decked-out car May 15th as he tries to win the Fed Ex 400 benefiting Autism Speaks at Dover International Speedway in Delaware.

“We’re ecstatic to be the primary sponsor on Matt Kenseth’s No. 17 Ford Fusion for not one, but, two races in the month of May,” said President of Sales and Co-Owner, Myles J. Freeman. “To think that Wiley X will be exploited on the national stage is a tribute to how far we’ve come and a sincere show of support for our massive dealer network and our Armed Forces who make us proud around the globe. To them, we are forever grateful.”

Large Wiley X Eyewear logos will be featured prominently on this Ford Fusion racer, perfectly complimenting the vehicle’s black/red/white color scheme. The words “Wiley X Sunglass Machine” are emblazoned in large letters across the rear of the car — a view Kenseth hopes to show T.V. cameras and competitors as he fights for the checkered flag at these two events.

“Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is happy to begin offering a series of collectible gaming chips,” said Pete Bradley, vice president and general manager of Casino Operations. “The initial Miles the Monster® casino chip is the first in this series, which will be offered at each of the spring and fall motorsports weekends at Dover International Speedway.”

The $5 chips can only be purchased at the casino table games area of Dover Downs Hotel & Casino, and only 5,000 chips are being produced. (June 10, 2010) – In the almost 25 years of its existence, no track on the NASCAR circuit has been more successful for Roush Fenway Racing than Michigan International Speedway (MIS). The organization’s 11 Cup wins at the two-mile moderate-banked D-shaped superspeedway located in the Irish Hills of Michigan are the most in the team’s rich racing history. All in all, Roush Fenway has collected 20 wins, 72 top-fives, 117 top-10s and six poles, while leading almost 3,000 laps in combined NASCAR competition at MIS.

The success if fitting for team owner Jack Roush, who’s Livonia based Roush Industries is located just down the road from the speedway.

“All of our wins at MIS have been special,” said Roush. “It is in front of our home crowd. It’s in front of our Roush Industries associates, Ford Motor Co., Chrysler and GM. It is good to race in front of the home crowd where all of our friends and people we like to have supporting us are paying attention.

“Detroit is still the motor city – despite rumors otherwise,” added Roush.

“Michigan International Speedway has been one of the best race tracks and I certainly enjoy racing there because it is where I call home. I am really excited about going to MIS. I fly one of my World War II airplanes there at least twice a month. I have watched the reconstruction of the hospitality area on the inside of the track. It is going to be great to get out there and see what it looks like on the ground.”

Roush’s racing team needed just three years after its inception in 1988 to break into the win column at Michigan, with Mark Martin taking the checkered flag in the No. 6 Ford in August of 1990. Martin would be the first of nine different drivers to win for Roush Fenway in NASCAR action at MIS, and the first of five drivers to win in the Cup series for Roush Fenway at Michigan; three of which will drive for the organization this weekend (Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards). The victory would also be the first of 20 for Roush at the track he affectionately calls ‘home.’

The wins for Roush at MIS break down to 11 in the Sprint Cup Series, four in the Nationwide Series and five in the trucks. In fact, Roush Fenway will not field a truck in this week’s race at MIS, but has won the last three races in the series at MIS, with Colin Braun doing the honors in the No. 6 Ford last season for Roush’s 20th NASCAR win at the track (the win was coincidentally the 50th for Roush Fenway overall in the truck series).

Roush would like nothing more than to see his team break back into the win column this weekend at MIS.

“I hope we will be able to break through at MIS and win again,” said Roush. “I would love to get Ford’s 12th win there (as a car owner). Hopefully we could win twice there this year.

Roush Fenway Racing is NASCAR’s largest team operating eight motorsports teams. Four in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with drivers Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and David Ragan; and four in the Nationwide Series with Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Colin Braun, Brian Ickler, and Paul Menard. For more information on any of the Roush Fenway Racing teams, log onto www.RoushFenway.com. Become a fan of Roush Fenway Racing on Facebook by going to http://www.facebook.com/roushfenway.

NOTES:

· This Week’s BB&T Chevrolet at Dover International Speedway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 284 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. Built new for 2009, this Chevrolet debuted at Atlanta earlier this month, where Bowyer recorded a 29th-place finish.

· Dover Facts … In seven NSCS starts at Dover International Speedway, Bowyer boasts three top-10 finishes. His best showing at the one-mile oval is an eighth-place finish, which he has accomplished three times. Additionally, the 30-year-old driver has led four laps of competition, has an average starting position of 21.7, an average finish of 14.3 and has completed 99.3 percent of the laps contested (2,780 of 2,800).

· Loop Data Says … Bowyer’s average running position of 14.113 ranks him 11th best at Dover. His Driver Rating of 90.2 ranks him 10th best among the 55 drivers who have competed at the “Monster Mile” over the last four years.

· Rearview Mirror … Bowyer was plagued with handling issues for most of last Sunday afternoon’s SYLVANIA 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but his team’s never-quit attitude afforded the Emporia, Kan., native a 10th-place finish.

· Get to the Points … Bowyer’s 10th-place finish at NHMS allowed him to maintain the 15th position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings. Out of the Chase field, the race for 13th place is on. Bowyer trails the current position holder, Kyle Busch, by 157 markers.

· Through 27 Races … Over the season’s first 27 races, Bowyer has accumulated four top-five and 12 top-10 finishes, an average start of 18.4 and an average finish of 15.9. The two-time NSCS winner has led 40 laps of competition and has completed 7,303 of the 7,636 (95.5 percent) laps contested thus far.

· RCR at Dover … RCR has earned four wins at Dover International Speedway, the latest coming in September 2006 when Jeff Burton drove the No. 31 Chevy to Victory Lane in the Dover 400. The other three wins came with Dale Earnhardt, who won both events at the Monster Mile in 1989 and the spring race in 1993. Additionally, RCR has earned one pole, 20 top-five and 41 top-10 finishes in 111 combined starts at the high-banked one-mile oval. Childress, a former driver in NASCAR’s top division, contributed three of those top 10s from 1976-1980. Last fall, all three RCR-prepared entries finished in the top 10. Kevin Harvick, Bowyer and Burton finished sixth, eighth and ninth, respectively in the Sept., 21, 2008 Sprint Cup Series race at the Dover facility.

· The Collective RCR … In 27 races this season, RCR’s four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entries have notched nine top-five and 26 top-10 finishes. The No. 29 team kicked off the 2009 season with a win in the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona. RCR-prepared cars have also completed 29,639 laps with four different drivers including Burton, Bowyer, Harvick and Casey Mears. RCR teams have led 188 laps and all four teams have earned just over of $15.3 million combined purse money in 2009.

· Former Winner … While Bowyer has not yet won at Dover in NSCS competition, he has visited Victory Lane once before. Driving the No. 2 AC Delco Chevrolet in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Bowyer won the Dover 200 from the 16th starting position on September 23, 2006.

Double Duty … In addition to his driving duties in Sunday’s AAA 400, Bowyer, the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series champion, will drive the No. 29 Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express Chevrolet in Saturday’s Dover 200. Live coverage of the event begins Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will be televised live on ESPN2 and broadcast worldwide on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

Dover Rewind … Bowyer finished 11th when the series last competed at Dover in May.

Testing, Testing … Bowyer and the No. 33 team spent Tuesday, Sept. 22 and Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Daytona International Speedway testing tires on behalf of Goodyear.

CLINT BOWYER QUOTES:

Is Dover a very demanding race track?

“It’s a long race, but 400 miles at any track is a long time. You get off the corner with a lot of speed and you have to yank on the wheel and make things happen pretty quickly because the corners are tight and you’re going pretty fast. It’s just one of the tracks that I enjoy. I like that type of race track and you have to get comfortable and get suited in and you’re good to go.”

Dover seems like a track that fits your driving style. Is it a race track where you’re able to control your own destiny a little more than some of the other tracks the Sprint Cup Series visits?

“Dover is one of those tracks where you want to win at. At some of these mile-and-a-half tracks, you’re only as good as the equipment and you really don’t have much of a say so. At places like Bristol, Dover, Daytona and Talladega, you have to make things happen. If the car isn’t handing, you can pick up your end of the deal and make something happen. I won the Nationwide race at Dover a couple of years ago, and I want to get a Sprint Cup win as well.”

(Aug. 10, 2009) — Ryan Newman overcame carbon monoxide fumes, a faulty alternator, a double battery change, a spinout and no air conditioning to finish 21st in Monday’s rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup road race at Watkins Glen International.

Oh yes, due to the alternator’s failure to fully charge the car’s batteries, Newman could only run at 75 percent capacity for the majority of the 90-lap race at the 2.45-mile road circuit.

To maintain a workable battery voltage, Newman was forced to shut off electrical power inside his U.S. Army/Haas Automation Chevrolet Impala SS, including the four fans that cool the brakes plus the car’s air conditioning system.

The lack of inside air ventilation created a carbon monoxide issue for Newman, who received oxygen following the race from the track’s medical staff.

“It was just too much to overcome,” stated crew chief Tony Gibson. “We were handicapped from the beginning and had to fight through these problems. We couldn’t run at full speed until late in the race. We made the best out of what we could. Our crew did a fantastic job when they swapped the two batteries.”

“Ryan was a trooper,” added Gibson. “He was hurting, but he fought hard right to the end. Our Soldiers do this every day and I know they would have been proud of their U.S. Army driver today.”

The race victory went to Newman’s teammate and owner — Tony Stewart, who captured his third win of the season and 36th of his career with a 2.969-second margin of victory over Marcos Ambrose.

Regarding the point standings with four races remaining before the 10-race, 12-driver Chase begins, Newman is in ninth place while Stewart continues to lead the pack. Newman is 100 points inside the Chase cutline.

“We need to keep our heads up and continue to charge,” said Gibson. “We’ve been battlers all year and nothing will change.”

The next stop for the No. 39 Stewart-Haas Team will be Sunday (Aug. 16) at Michigan International Speedway.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Point Standings:
1. Tony Stewart, 3383 points
2. Jimmie Johnson, 3123
(May 12, 2009) – Each of Jeff Gordon’s three All-Star wins has been memorable for different reasons. While a fourth victory for the Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) driver would make history, his strongest challenge may just come from within.

Entering Saturday night’s non-points event at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports current driver lineup has won eight of the last 14 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Races. Gordon’s three wins occurred in 1995, 1997 and 2001 – all championship seasons
for the four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. Teammates Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin have captured two apiece while Dale Earnhardt, Jr., won this event in 2000.

“I think the All-Star race is a spectacular event and everybody in it is a proven winner,” said Gordon, who is tied with the late Dale Earnhardt for most victories in this annual event. “The competition is going to be incredibly fierce, and you must push yourself and the car. The pit crew will be asked to ‘step up’ and the crew chief will be forced to make some big decisions regarding pit strategy.

“The whole team will lay it all out there on the line and, the fact we’ve won it three times, it means a lot. It’s a big event to win.”

In 1995 in only his second start in NASCAR’s All-Star event, the driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet dominated the event by winning all three segments. Two years later, Gordon captured his second victory in a car that became extinct only days later.

“The Jurassic Park car, ‘T-Rex,’ was just an effort by Hendrick Motorsports to build a better, faster car,” said Gordon. “It was built primarily for one race – the all-star race in 1997. At the same time, though, we felt some of the ideas – if they worked – could be adapted to future cars.

“We didn’t know we were going to be as strong as we were, win the race and get the attention of NASCAR quite the way we did. We were within the rules, but they didn’t like some of the things we did with the car and wanted to make some rule changes. I think that’s something that everybody at Hendrick Motorsports can be proud of. “

Gordon’s third victory in the All-Star event occurred in 2001, and it was definitely a victory by an organization – not just one team.

“I thought we were going to win the race that night – the race home,” said Gordon. “First turn, first lap, and we’re wrecking.

“But since it was caused by rain on the track, NASCAR allowed us to use our backups. I’ll never forget the sight of walking into the garage area and seeing all the HMS teams helping us prepare our backup car. And then to go out and win the event after that was just incredible.”

And the fourth victory for Gordon? Could anything be more memorable than a four way battle amongst your teammates?
