Chase racing means never having to say you’re sorry

Sure, Newman dive-bombed Sunoco Rookie of the Year front-runner Kyle Larson on the final lap of Sunday’s Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, but there were extenuating circumstances. For Newman, that one move, made in the final two corners of the final lap of the final race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup’s Eliminator Round, defined an entire season.
