Grimes, Iowa (November 25, 2009) – During Champions Week in Concord, NC, Brett Moffitt celebrated a spectacular first year of NASCAR racing, which began while Moffitt was just sixteen years old. The 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series East season-ending banquet was held last week in the Embassy Suites Hotel Concord Convention Center, near the NASCAR Research & Development Center, the future NASCAR Hall of Fame complex, and also in close proximity to Charlotte, NC, the home base of many of the NASCAR race teams.

During Saturday night’s NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards Gala, Moffitt, a rookie and a serious contender for the 2009 NCWSE championship, graced the awards stage twice. After being presented with the trophy and points fund check for finishing third in the overall season points standings, Moffitt was called back to the stage to receive the prestigious Most Improved Driver of the 2009 Season award.

Moffitt and his Andy Santerre Motorsports team ended the season on a high note, finishing in second place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and winning the final 2009 event on the Monster Mile at Dover in a dominating fashion. Dover was also Santerre’s last event as a team owner. With this win, Moffitt and team scored their second victory of the season. Moffitt and the ASM Team gave notice of their strength during the first race of the 2009 season at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, when the rookie won the pole in his series debut. Moffitt went on to score six top fives and nine top tens, finishing the season a mere sixty points behind series veteran, Eddie McDonald, and only ninety-four points behind fellow rookie competitor and Michael Waltrip development driver, Ryan Truex. Only two other rookie drivers cracked the top ten in 2009; Alan Tardiff finished seventh, while Alex Kennedy took the tenth spot.

Moffitt also managed to embed his name in the NASCAR history book, first becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a pole at the season opener, then becoming the youngest driver in NASCAR history to win a race during the fourth event of 2009 at South Boston Speedway, and finally, becoming the youngest driver in history to lead the points in a NASCAR series, which he accomplished with a third place finish during NCWSE event number five at Watkins Glen International. These three records had previously been held by another up and coming young NASCAR driver, Joey Logano. When asked if he had it in for Logano, the rookie Moffitt replied, “Not really. I am just trying to make a mark for myself, hoping to attract some attention and gain some support, so I can continue to climb the ladder in the world of professional stock car racing.”

Earlier in the championship week, Moffitt and his father, Dick, took advantage of their stay in the hub of NASCAR racing by visiting several ARCA teams and two prominent NASCAR Sprint, Nationwide, and Camping World series team owners, in preparation for the 2010 racing season. Moffitt’s 2009 mentor, Andy Santerre, himself a multiple series champion and one of the most highly-regarded NCWSE owners, has since sold his team and is moving on to other opportunities. Santerre commented, “What I want people to remember about Brett and his 2009 season is that he started the season as a sixteen year old rookie, competing in only his second year in stock cars on asphalt.

He raced against NASCAR veterans, as well as several rookies who all had a lot more seat time in the NASCAR type of cars than he did. On top of that, our team was one of the most underfunded teams in the NCWSE. Brett is one of the most talented drivers competing in the NCWSE today. He raced and made decisions on the race track at a maturity level well beyond his age and experience. Race after race, he used a calm demeanor to face whatever situation he was put into. He completed races and brought an unscathed car back to the garage on all four wheels, with all four fenders on it. He was a quick study, he is humble, and he was one of the most pleasurable drivers I have ever had the opportunity to work with. I sincerely hope someone will pick him up and keep him racing. He definitely has the talent to compete in NASCAR’s big league someday.”

When asked about his son’s plans for 2010, Brett’s father, Dick, commented, “We hope our first race will be the Toyota All-Star Event on January 29thand 30th at Irwindale Speedway. Brett is qualified, and we are talking to some teams. All we need is for the right deal to fall into place.” Regarding the balance of the 2010 season, talks with potential teams are ongoing. With the right package in place, Moffitt would like to compete for the championship in the NASCAR Camping World Series East, and when scheduling permits, he would also like to compete in as many races as he can with the ARCA RE/MAX Series. This could include as many as twelve or thirteen events, based on the tracks on which he can compete while he is still seventeen, plus the remaining events that are scheduled after his eighteenth birthday. Of course, Moffitt’s 2010 schedule is contingent on the right sponsorship/partnership package. Based on his accomplishments, and with the ability Moffitt has demonstrated, the right deal is certainly just around the corner.

In his short racing career, Moffitt won the coveted WKA Triple Crown at the age of thirteen and a Golden Driller at the Tulsa Shoot-Out in only his third year racing in karts. In 2007, at the age of fourteen, he drove his first race car, competing in an IMCA SportMod. Moffitt raced in seventy-six events and captured twenty-six feature wins, including the 2007 Harris Clash Championship, where he became the youngest driver in the history of Knoxville Raceway (Iowa) to win a feature event. Moffitt was also the All-Iowa SportMod State Champion in 2007. At fifteen, Moffitt competed for the first time on asphalt as a regular in the ASA Late Model Series North, where he finished second in the series point standings and was crowned its 2008 Rookie of the Year. Also in 2008, Moffitt set several track records while competing with ASALMS and became the youngest driver in its history to qualify for the prestigious Slinger Nationals, a record previously held by a then seventeen year old Matt Kenseth.

In his first race in a Super Late Model during the 2008 season-ending 39th Annual Oktoberfest, Moffitt set two quick times, and event officials awarded Brett Moffitt the Al Schilling “Young Gun Award” for his accomplishments during the 2008 Oktoberfest Race Weekend. At sixteen, and in the fourth different kind of race car in as many years, Moffitt’s accomplishments speak for themselves. While competing in the NCWSE, in only his second year behind the wheel of a stock car on asphalt, his final race of the 2009 season was his first-ever ARCA RE/MAX Series race at the Rockingham Speedway, and the result was a very respectable tenth place run. Brett Moffitt continues to showcase his drive, desire, talent, and ability to become a professional stock car driver. Certainly, the deal and the help Moffitt is looking for is just around the corner.

Stay tuned! Without a doubt, there is more to come in 2010!

(Oct. 20, 2009) – Joe Gibbs Racing’s latest young talent, Matt DiBenedetto, will make his
debut in in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this Saturday when he pilots the No. 20 Pizza Ranch Toyota at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Pizza Ranch announced this week that they have signed on to sponsor four NASCAR Nationwide Series races with Joe Gibbs Racing and DiBenedetto beginning this week with the race in Memphis. In addition, Pizza Ranch and DiBenedetto will team up at three Nationwide races in 2010 including Milwaukee, WI (6/19/10); St. Louis, MO (7/17/10) and at Newton, IA (7/31/10).

DiBenedetto has made quite the impression on the racing community since signing with Joe Gibbs Racing’s driver development program prior to the 2009 NASCAR season. It took just two races in NASCAR’s Camping World Series East to find victory lane, winning at Tri-County Raceway on April 25. In June, he made his first appearance ever on a road course at Watkins Glen and showed no signs of intimidation, winning the pole and finishing fifth. Then, on June 26 he went to New Hampshire and led off a weekend that proved to a be a JGR sweep in Loudoun by winning the Camping World Series East race on Friday (teammate Kyle Busch would win the Nationwide Series race on Saturday and Joey Logano captured the Sprint Cup Series win on Sunday).

Proving adept once again on a road course, he captured his second pole of the season at Lime Rock and was dominating the race before being wrecked late while in lapped traffic. In all DiBenedetto made seven starts in the Series with two wins, three poles, four top-fives and five top-ten finishes. Even more amazing is that despite starting just seven of the 11 point races, he completed the season as the Wix Filter Lap Leader for the Series.

“Matt has done a great job with every opportunity we’ve provided thus far and we’re excited to see what he can do in the Nationwide Series,” said J.D. Gibbs, president of JGR. “He is an exciting young talent that brings a lot of skill to the track, but he also has a great personality. We really believe he has a bright future in the sport and will represent Pizza Ranch well.”

Matt DiBenedetto

Matt DiBenedetto – No. 20 Pizza Ranch NASCAR Nationwide Series Toyota Camry at Memphis

How excited are you to be making your first start in the Nationwide Series?

“I’m really excited. To have an organization like Joe Gibbs Racing give me an opportunity like this is awesome. Hopefully driving in top notch equipment like this will make the learning curve a lot easier on me.”

What are your goals for the race?

“I don’t want to go in with too high of expectations, but I’m looking for a solid race and a good clean race. Hopefully I can go out and earn the respect of the other drivers and get a good finish.”

Do you know anything about the track in Memphis?

“I’ve never been on it, but I’m trying to learn as much as I can about it. Sounds like a typical short track and shouldn’t be a huge change from what I’m used to.

What does it mean to you to have a sponsor like Pizza Ranch come on board to sponsor this race and several races next year with you?

“It’s really remarkable. I’m just a rookie and to have a company like Pizza Ranch come on board with me is amazing. I’m glad to be able to have the opportunity to represent them and hopefully we’ll give them a great race.”

The Car

Chassis No. 2095: Was built earlier this year and has raced just one previous time in Milwaukee. JGR’s newest generation short track car, Brad Coleman qualified the car on the outside pole in Milwaukee and was running up front until it suffered fender damage in a racing incident and was forced to settle for a 24th place finish. Chassis 2097 will serve as the backup. It has also raced one time with Denny Hamlin capturing the pole at Richmond and leading a number of laps before suffering damage late in the race.

Pizza Ranch has focused its brand around providing a legendary experience through quality food and service.
No. 3 RCR 40th Anniversary Chevrolet Silverado

Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event: Heluva Good! 200 – September 19, 2009

Venue: New Hampshire Motor Speedway – Loudon, N.H.

· This Week’s RCR 40th Anniversary Chevrolet Silverado at New Hampshire Motor Speedway … Austin Dillon will pilot Chassis No. 021 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stable in this weekend’s Heluva Good! 200. This Chevrolet Silverado was purchased from Kevin Harvick Inc. earlier this season, and Dillon finished 12th with it in his NCWTS debut two weeks ago at Iowa Speedway. Last year, this former No. 2 KHI entry ran in five NCTWS races, earning one pole, two top-10 and four top-20 finishes. This chassis currently holds the Martinsville Speedway track qualifying record, set by Jack Sprague with a fast lap of 19.65 seconds last March.

· Truck Series Debut Recap … Dillon qualified ninth in his NCWTS debut at Iowa Speedway on September 5. On lap 74, Dillon spun out, but recovered to finish 12th.

o History of the No. 3 Truck … The 19-year-old Dillon is the third driver to compete in RCR’s No. 3 entry, joining Mike Skinner, who drove the GM Goodwrench-sponsored entry from1995 to 1996, and Jay Sauter, who took the reigns in 1997 and drove the No. 3 truck until Childress ended his involvement in the series in 1999 to pursue racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

o Family Values … Dillon is a third-generation NASCAR driver. His grandfather, Richard Childress, made 285 Sprint Cup Series starts between 1969 and 1981, earning six top-five and 76 top-10 finishes. Austin’s father, Mike Dillon, drove from 1995 to 2001 in each of NASCAR’s top-three series, including three starts in the NCWTS from 1997 to 1998.

· Dillon Familiar with the No. 3 … In addition to his NCWTS start in the No. 3 at Iowa Speedway on Labor Day Weekend, Dillon has raced the No. 3 Chevrolet in 15 NASCAR Camping World Series East starts, earning one win, seven top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. He also has driven Team Dillon Racing’s No. 3 Asphalt and Dirt Late Models since 2005.

· Repeat Performance … This weekend’s race marks the third time Dillon will compete at the 1.058-mile NHMS. He raced in both NCWSE events last year, scoring the pole for the June Heluva Good! 125 on his way to a fourth-place finish. In September 2008, Dillon started 15th and finished fifth in the Heluva Good! Fall 125, which helped him capture the title of NCWSE Rookie of the Year.

· Oh, Brother … Dillon’s younger brother, Ty, is also competing at NHMS this weekend. On Friday, the 17 year-old will make his third career start in the NASCAR Camping World Series East in the Heluva Good! Fall 125, driving the No. 3 Mom n’ Pops Country Ham Chevrolet in the Heluva Good! Fall 125.

· Multitasking … While pursuing his racing career, Dillon is not ignoring his academic growth. He is currently enrolled as a freshman at High Point University, where he is studying at the Nido R. Quebin School of Communications. Earlier this season, the University sponsored Dillon in a NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Iowa Speedway.

· RCR’s 130-plus Truck Series Starts … This weekend marks the 131st start by an RCR entry in a NCWTS event. In all, RCR-prepared trucks have earned 20 wins, including the inaugural race with Skinner at Phoenix International Raceway in 1995. Along with Skinner, drivers including Mike Dillon, Bill Cooper, Dave Marcis, Jay Sauter and Jim Sauter have recorded 59 top-five and 85 top-10 finishes for the organization. Skinner captured the inaugural NCWTS championship title for RCR in 1995.

· Race Broadcast Information … The Heluva Good! 200 will be televised live on Saturday, September 19 on SPEED beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will also be broadcast on the Performance Racing Network and Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Qualifying will begin the same day at 10:05 a.m. EDT.

· Mark Your Calendars … In honor of its 40th anniversary, RCR will host a Fan Day at the Welcome, N.C. complex on Thursday, October 22 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. EDT. Activities include driver and pit crew autograph sessions, self-guided tours of RCR’s Sprint Cup and Nationwide shops as well as ECR’s engine shop, radio remotes, musical entertainment, pit crew competition, viewing of the DALE movie, question-and-answer session with team owner Richard Childress and much more. General admission to RCR’s Fan Day is just $5, which will benefit the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma.

AUSTIN DILLON Quotes:

How do you feel about making another start in the NCWTS?

“I’m really excited about New Hampshire. I’ve been there in a (NASCAR) Camping World Series East car before, so I have some experience. The truck series usually puts on a wild race, so it should be a lot of fun. I think we’ll have a good truck. It’ll be fun to drive the (No.) 3 truck again and to see what the fans in New Hampshire think about it. We were able to run it in the East series there, and it’s a lot of fun and an honor to drive that number. I think we should be pretty decent.”

What’s the biggest difference between the NASCAR Nationwide Series cars and the NCWTS trucks?

“The biggest difference between the two is definitely the splitter. You have to work around the splitter the entire time in practice, just making sure nothing’s hitting or dragging. Racing-wise, the difference is, once you get around cars, the aero is twice as important because you’ve got such a big side board with the right side door. When you get close to people and the air gets taken off the truck, it goes really fast, so you’ve got to be careful when you’re racing in tight quarters. You can take the air off other people and it’ll turn you around.”

Do you think the trucks make for wilder racing than the Nationwide Series cars?

“You’re still fighting for every position each lap in both series, and you’re running as hard as you can. At New Hampshire, like I said with the air and the trucks, when they get really close and someone tries to pass there, you get really loose when you’re on the inside of someone. That’s the biggest thing. Someone will drive off into the corner a little too hot and end up wrecking entering the corner.

Ryan Gifford

No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet

Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event: Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades 125 – September 4, 2009

Venue: Iowa Speedway – Newton, Iowa

This Week’s No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet at Iowa Speedway … Richard Childress Racing developmental driver Ryan Gifford will pilot Chassis No. 166 from the Richard Childress Racing stable in this weekend’s Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades 125 NASCAR Camping World Series West event at Iowa Speedway. Formerly a No. 07 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racer, this car has been reworked by the RCR Nationwide shop for Gifford.

Fourth Start … This weekend’s Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades 125 will mark Gifford’s fourth career start in a NCWS event, and his first start in the series’ West division. Earlier this year, Gifford qualified 14th in his NCWSE debut at Tri-County Motor Speedway in Hudson, N.C. After working his way into the top 10, Gifford was spun out by another driver as the field attempted a green-white-checkered flag finish in the Tri-County 150 on April 25 and was credited with a 17th-place finish. At South Boston (Va.) Speedway, Gifford qualified 10th on his way to a runner-up finish in the Camping World 150 on May 30 in just his sixth-career start on an asphalt track. Most recently, Gifford posted a fourth-place finish in the Heluva Good! 125 NCWSE race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Big Time … When Gifford takes to the .875-mile Iowa Speedway track, it will mark just the second time the 20-year-old driver will be competing on a track larger than a half-mile in length (New Hampshire Motor Speedway was the first).

Test … Gifford tested at the “Little Rock” Speedway at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway two weeks ago in preparation for this weekend’s race at Iowa.

Season So Far … Gifford is running a combination of dirt track, asphalt Late Model and NCWS events this season for Team Dillon Racing (owned by RCR vice president of competition, Mike Dillon) and Richard Childress Racing. Some highlights of the year to date include; a visit to the Alltel DIRTCar Nationals at Volusia (Fla.) Speedway, where Gifford posted five top-five feature finishes in seven nights of racing; a sixth-place finish in his first-career start on asphalt at Tri-County Motor Speedway on April 22; a 10th-place result in the FASTRAK Late Model Challenge race at The Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway; a second-place finish in the Camping World 150 at South Boston Speedway and a fourth-place finish in the NCWSE event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in June.

Race Broadcast Information … The Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades 125 will be contested Friday, September 4, at 8 p.m. Central Daylight Time. The event is scheduled to air on a tape-delayed basis on SPEED, Thursday, September 10, at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (Check your local listings to confirm date and time).

Ryan Gifford Quotes:

You’ve never competed at Iowa Speedway, but you did go watch your teammate, Austin Dillon, race there in the NASCAR Nationwide Series a few weeks ago. What did you learn about the track from observing the other drivers?

“The guy that’s going to be successful is the one who can get his car to work the bottom groove and can get over the bumps in (Turns) 1 and 2 the best. If you can do that and not get loose, you’re going to be fast.”

This is the second time you’re racing on a track over a half-mile in length. Is there anything that’s going to be different at Iowa that you think will give you an advantage over what you dealt with at New Hampshire Motor Speedway earlier this season? “The biggest difference that’s going to help me, I think, is that the practice sessions are broken up more. At New Hampshire, you practiced for 90 minutes at one time, so you didn’t have a lot of time to debrief with your crew chief and decide on changes. At Iowa, you’ll get to practice, then come in and get out of the car and think about it and talk it over with your crew before you decide on what changes to make and go back out there. I think that’s going to make a huge difference.”

You didn’t really know what to expect at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, with it being the biggest track you’ve competed on. You came out of there with a top-five finish. How much of a confidence boost was that for you?

“It gave me a lot of confidence. To finish second at South Boston (Speedway) and then back that up with a top-five at New Hampshire (Motor Speedway) was huge. I always want to go the next step and get better, so now I’m looking to win, but I’d be happy if we can put up another top five. If we keep getting the top five’s, we’ll get our fair share of wins.”

Crew Chief Wayne Orme Quotes:

Given that Gifford has a second-place and fourth-place finish in his past two NCWS starts, what would you consider a success this weekend at Iowa? “I honestly think we can pull off a top-three finish, but we’d be happy with a top five.”

Since he’d never competed on a track that large, how impressed were you with Gifford’s fourth-place run at New Hampshire earlier this season?

“I was very impressed. From the time he rolled off the truck until he qualified, he picked up a second-and-a-half per lap, and that was just him learning and gaining confidence. He struggled a little bit with having to shift from second to third (gear), because he’d never had to do that. In his other cars, he only has to shift from third to fourth and you don’t shift at all in a dirt car. He’d lose three or four spots on every restart because of the shifting, so for him to come out of there with a top five was that much more impressive.”

How much will the break between practice sessions help Gifford and yourself in getting the car where he likes it?

“Oh, it’s going to help a ton. He’ll be able to relax, get out and talk about it and we can hopefully make some good changes. At New Hampshire, we had one long practice session and I didn’t really want to make any changes during it. He was learning the car and adapting his driving style to how the car handled, so I didn’t want to mess that up. At Iowa, he’ll be able to go out and run, then we’ll come in and put stickers (new tires) on it and he’ll make a mock qualifying run. Then we can think it through and talk it over and hopefully make some smart changes before the next practice.”

From the beginning of the season until now, what is the biggest area of improvement you’ve seen in Gifford?

“(He’s really improved) in the input he gives me. His verbiage on what the car’s doing has gotten much better. As he’s raced this year, he’s learned what effect the changes are going to have on his car, and he’s gotten smarter about knowing that while a change we make could help him in the short run, he needs to think about how that change is going to affect him long-term. He used to just know how to drive the snot out of the car and whatever we ended up with is what we ended up with. He’s gotten a lot better and learned a lot more about what the car needs for him to be successful.”

“We were fast, sideways and backwards, so I guess we had everything covered” said Gresham. “It wasn’t the finish we wanted or expected, but I learned a lot and got a lot of experience. That’s what this Joe Gibbs Racing Driver Development Program is all about. I know what I learned at Adirondack will help me down the road, so while I wanted to finish better, I’m not disappointed with our finish either.”

Gresham, just 16 and a star in the American Speed Association Southeast Asphalt Tour ranks with two wins this season, was making his second start in the potent JGR Toyota Camry after wheeling his way to a fifth-place finish in his NCWSE debut at South Boston (VA) Speedway in May.

“We were fast in practice, but we didn’t make a mock qualifying run and I kind of lost it thanks to the combination of new tires and changing track conditions,” said Gresham. “We wound up starting 14th, which isn’t where we wanted to start and not an indication as to just how good our car was.”

Gresham and his Gresham & Associates sponsored red and black Camry spent the early laps of the 150-circuit event on the New Bremen, NY half-mile oval trying to work his way into the Top-10. By Lap 50, the Woodward Academy high school junior had done just that when the tricky Adirondack track jumped up and bit him.

“We were coming through the pack pretty good when I hooked the left-front tire in the grass in Turn 2 and lost the car,” said Gresham of his Lap 51 spin. “We were about 10th at the time and I wound up losing a lap. We made a pit stop and the crew made some adjustments that made us the fastest car on the track – about a tenth of a second a lap faster than the leader and almost three-tenths quicker than the rest of the field. The guys really put a lot of time into the car and made it very fast. We had a Top-5 car and they sure didn’t deserve a 16th-place finish.”

Despite the less than expected result, Gresham was still positive about the experience and was looking forward to his next turn behind the wheel of the JGR Driver Development ride.

“I can’t complain,” said Gresham. “We had a really fast car. I had a lot of fun passing a lot of cars. I’m new to this kind of car and series, so it was a real challenge. I’m learning and I can’t wait to get another chance when we go to Iowa Speedway next month. The Gibbs guys have pretty much won every time they’ve gone there, so they have a great set-up for the car. I know we’re going to be fast and maybe I can get my first NASCAR Camping World Series East win there.”

Gresham will return to ASA Southeast Tour action this weekend with a 100-lap headline event at Anderson (SC) Speedway. The green flag on the 3/8-mile oval is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Gresham will next hit the NASCAR Camping World Series trail Friday, September 4 at Iowa Speedway. The 125-lap event on the 7/8-mile oval will roll off at 8 p.m. Central Time.

U.S. Cellular 250

August 1, 2009

Notes of Interest:

· Ickler makes debut in No. 32 Dollar General Toyota! Although he practiced the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota at O’Reilly Raceway Park, this weekend marks Brian Ickler’s first of two starts for Braun Racing. Ickler joins Brian Vickers, David Reutimann, Reed Sorenson and Jacques Villeneuve to round out the talented cast of drivers in the No. 32 Camry.

· Ickler Previous Winner at Iowa Speedway! While most Nationwide Series (NNS) drivers will see Iowa Speedway for the first time this weekend, Ickler is no stranger to the 0.875-mile track. He has made two previous starts in the NASCAR Camping World East Series (NCWSE), winning the 2008 East/West Showdown and finishing second to Kyle Busch in this season’s event. His qualifying statistics aren’t too shabby either. He started the 2008 event from the fifth spot and this season’s Showdown from the outside pole position.

· Second Career NNS Start for Ickler: He made his NNS debut at Phoenix International Raceway (November, 2008). This season, Ickler has also spent time behind the wheel of the No. 51 and No. 15 Toyota Tundras in the Camping World Truck Series.

· Owner AND Driver: This 23-year-old knows what it’s like to work hard and drive hard. After finding success in the Camping World West Series, Ickler moved from San Diego to Mooresville, N.C., where he set up shop and started his own NCWSE team, Ickler Motorsports. In 2008, he boasted three wins, three top-five and five top-10 finishes and claimed two pole positions. He also led an impressive 452 laps.

Ickler on driving Braun Racing’s No. 32 Dollar General Toyota:

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to drive for an organization like Braun Racing. The No. 32 team is very competitive, week in and week out. I was able to spend time with [crew chief] Trent Owens and the team last weekend at O’Reilly Raceway Park. I think that will definitely work to our advantage this weekend. As a driver, it was hard to get the taste of being behind the wheel and then watch the race. I am really looking forward to being able to race the Dollar General Toyota at Iowa Speedway.”

Ickler on racing at Iowa Speedway:

“I love racing at Iowa Speedway. It is a lot of fun – a fast, short-track. I think the racing this weekend is going to be great! I’ve been fortunate to have raced in the Camping World Series here and am excited to have the opportunity to race in the inaugural Nationwide Series race. I think the fans are going to get quite a show on Saturday. As for our team, I think with the combination of the Dollar General team and their strong Toyotas and my track experience, we have a really good chance at celebrating in victory lane.”

Equipment Information

The No. 32 Dollar General team will compete with chassis #024 in this weekend’s U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway.
This is the same chassis that the No. 32 team ran this season at Kentucky Speedway with Burney Lamar. He qualified the Dollar General Toyota in the 18th position and finished eighth.

TY DILLON Quote:

“I’m pretty excited about this weekend. I tested a late model at Adirondack this season and got a feel for the track. It’s pretty unique. We’ll try and use what I learned in that test to our advantage in the No. 3 Chevy this weekend. It’s only my second race in this series, so we’re hoping to have a solid run and gain more experience in these style cars.”

(July 23, 2009) - Richard Childress Racing development driver Austin Dillon, an incoming freshman at High Point University who will be studying at the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication, is already on track to showing his school spirit. Dillon will drive the No. 2 High Point University Chevrolet Impala SS for Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race held at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, August 1.

Dillon, a native of Lewisville, N.C., is the grandson of Richard Childress – President and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. His father, Mike Dillon, is RCR’s vice president of competition and owner of Team Dillon Racing, where the 19-year old soon-to-be HPU Panther began his racing career.

“It’s really cool to be able to carry the colors of High Point University,” says Austin Dillon. “I’m not necessarily a typical ‘student-athlete,’ but it’s an honor to show off my Panther pride this way even before I take my first collegiate class.”

Dillon’s racing career started in 2005 and has included several wins and many top-10 finishes in a number of different series. He finished second in the 2008 NASCAR Camping World Series East and won rookie of the year honors. Dillon will attempt to make his fifth career NNS start at Iowa Speedway next weekend.

“The High Point University family is extremely proud of Austin and his accomplishments; he is a dedicated and skilled young man,” says Chris Dudley, vice president for administration at HPU. “It takes an incredible young person to manage the demands of racing and the rigorous academic schedule at HPU. We support him in this endeavor, and we look forward to welcoming him to HPU this fall.”

Austin Dillon

Dillon has visited Iowa Speedway twice this season in preparation for the upcoming Nationwide Series race. In May, he started seventh and finished 16th after his left-front tire went flat in the opening laps of the NCWSE race. Just three weeks ago, Dillon rallied from last place to finish second in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) RE/MAX Series race.

“Iowa is a really fun place to race at,” says Dillon. “This will be the fifth time I’ve raced there and that experience has built my confidence in understanding my way around the track. I’ll apply what I’ve learned so far to this race and, hopefully, we’ll have a solid run.”

Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event: Heluva Good! Summer 125 – June 26, 2009

Venue: New Hampshire Motor Speedway – Loudon, N.H.

· This Week’s No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet at New Hampshire Motor Speedway … Richard Childress Racing developmental driver Ryan Gifford will pilot Chassis No. 167 from the Richard Childress Racing stable in this weekend’s Heluva Good! Summer 125 NASCAR Camping World Series East event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Kevin Harvick drove this car to the Winner’s Circle in Sprint Cup Series competition in April 2006 at Phoenix International Raceway and again at Richmond International Raceway in September of the same year.

· Third Time’s a Charm … This weekend’s Heluva Good! Summer 125 will mark Gifford’s third-career start in a NCWSE event.

· Big Time … When Gifford takes to the 1.058-mile track surface at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, it will mark the first time the 20-year-old driver will be competing on a track larger than a half-mile in length. At the same time, it will be the eighth time he will race on an asphalt surface.

· Season So Far … Gifford is running a combination of dirt track, asphalt Late Model and NCWSE events this season for Team Dillon Racing (owned by RCR vice president of competition, Mike Dillon) and Richard Childress Racing. Some of the highlights of the year to date include; a visit to the Alltel DIRTCar Nationals at Volusia (Fla.) Speedway, where Gifford posted five top-five feature finishes in seven nights of racing; a sixth-place finish In his first career start on asphalt at Tri-County Motor Speedway on April 22; and a 10th-place result in the FASTRAK Late Model Challenge race at The Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May22.

· Race Broadcast Information … The Heluva Good! Summer 125 will air on SPEED on a tape-delayed basis Thursday, July 9 at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

Ryan Gifford Quotes:

You’ve never competed on a track this large, have you?

“This is my first mile track, so I’m really excited. It’s the first time I’ve been on anything bigger than a half-mile, really. I’m ready to go out and learn and see what I can do. I’ve run a lot on my (video) simulator and played a lot of video games. I think that stuffs help, in a way, just to get accustomed to where you need to run on the track. I just want to go out there and try and get a top-five finish. If we can get our fair share of top fives, then we should eventually get our fair share of wins. It’s going to be twice as big as what I’m used to but I think it will be alright. It’s just another race track. I’ve just got to get out there and do it.”

You haven’t tested at any one-mile tracks, so what have you been doing to prepare?

“I’ve been watching tapes. I have some in-car footage from Clint (Bowyer) at Loudon in the Nationwide (Series) car, so I think it will be really close to what he was doing. I’ve watched and studied it to really get an idea of what’s going on there.”

There’s a lot of good competition that shows up to this event. Being relatively new to the series, is that intimidating at all?

“You’ve always got to respect your competitors, but I think we’ve got just as good a chance as anyone. I think our cars are just as good. I just have to adapt to the track and the high speeds and do what I have to do. There are some good guys there. There are some of the guys we race with on the short tracks that run a lot better there. Eddie McDonald won both races there last year, I think. He’s got it figured out there but I think we can do well. I just have to get focused and make everything come together.”

Was it a big confidence booster to post a second-place finish in just your second NCWSE start?

“It gave me tons of confidence. Like I keep saying, that finish was like a win to me. I always want to go the next step and get better, so now I’m looking to win. I’ve got a second, so now I want to win, but I realize a top five is a much more realistic goal.”

Crew Chief Wayne Orme Quotes:

You’re taking a young driver to a track he’s never visited. What are your expectations and what do you hope to achieve this weekend?

“The biggest thing is for him to get experience. If we come out of there with the car in one piece, it’s a good day. If we come out of there with a top five, it’s a huge win. The bottom line is for him to get experience and get exposure to these bigger race tracks. My biggest concern is the speed. He’s never gone that fast before in a race but I don’t think it will be a problem. He’s not afraid of speed at all, it’s just that it’s a tricky little race track and always has been. Fortunately for us, Mike Dillon is going to come up and spot for us and that’s a huge asset. He does a great job with Clint (Bowyer) and we’re looking forward to everyone going up there and having a calm, peaceful weekend and getting Ryan some track time.”

As a veteran in this sport, what do you see in Ryan that makes you think he can be successful at this level?

“He has a great deal of car control. His input and the quality of his feedback on what the car’s doing, for somebody that has done this for such a limited time, especially on asphalt, helps me by making my playbook a lot smaller. As a crew chief, your playbook is huge to start off with and, with bad input, the playbook isn’t worth anything. He gives such good input back at such a young age, it makes things a lot more simple.”

Is the quality of his feedback and his feel for the car something that you can teach or does it come naturally to drivers?

“That’s natural. I think you can teach it but I’ve worked with some guys who have been doing this for quite awhile and the actual input on what they feel and what they want out of the car is natural. It’s exciting. He’s been given a great opportunity with RCR and TDR. As someone who’s been doing this for 15 years, I have to say that with his overall ability with the race car and his personality, I can’t personally ask for anything better. If he can keep doing what he’s doing, I think the sky’s the limit for him.”
