Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Homestead-Miami Speedway – November 19, 2011

- Denny Hamlin (fifth) was the highest finishing Toyota driver in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

- Camry drivers Brian Scott (ninth) and Joey Logano (10th) also earned top-10 finishes in the 200-lap event.

- Other Toyota drivers in the field included Joe Nemechek (16th), Michael Annett (19th), Kevin Conway (26th), Kenny Wallace (33rd) and Steve Wallace (34th).

- Four Camry drivers finished among the top-10 in the unofficial NNS driver point standings — K. Wallace (seventh), Scott (eighth), Annett (ninth), and S. Wallace (10th).

- Camry drivers earned 10 wins and five pole positions during the 2011 season. Toyota has recorded 64 victories and 54 poles since joining the series in 2007.

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

How was your race?

“We struggled with our race car all day long and we had very limited practice time with the rain. Just didn’t have it today. It looked like all of the Roush cars were extremely strong. We just didn’t have the car that could hang with them in the end.”

How happy were you with your pit crew in tonight’s race?

“Yeah, this pit crew gave us a shot at it, no doubt about it. They were just an amazing pit crew. When you can gain us three spots and a clutch position like that, they deserve a lot of credit. They’re the ones who gave us a shot at it anyway.”

How are you feeling going into the Sprint Cup race on Sunday after two races so far this weekend?

“Good. I feel like we’re making strides. We just have got to keep digging. We’re a little off right now. As an organization I feel like we need to be better. Obviously, we’ve got a ways to go, but just have to thank everyone from Z- Line Designs for putting me in the car and obviously this whole 18 team for putting me in. Jim and Monica (Sexton, Z- Line Design owners) have done a lot for this program. FedEx, Toyota, Coca-Cola, Gillette and Wiley X. Couldn’t do it without everyone.”

Did you think you had a chance to beat the 60 car tonight to give Joe Gibbs Racing the owner’s championship?

“Carl (Edwards) had an extremely strong car. It looked like all of their cars were really good today. We just struggled with our Z-Line Designs Toyota. We felt like for the most part we had a fifth to seventh-place car for most of the day. It’s kind of where we ended up. The pit crew did an amazing job at least giving me a shot at it there at the end. We just couldn’t hang on. We just didn’t have the car for it today.”

Were you unhappy with the way your car handled during the race?

“I wish we had some more practice time. We were banking on that second practice. We just didn’t get enough track time with this car this weekend. We struggled. We struggled all day and just could not get the speed out of it that we needed. We ended up fifth.”

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 9th

Are you happy finishing the year with a top-10?

“I’ll take a top-10 to end the year. We fought hard ever since Daytona. We didn’t have the performance or the results that we wanted until about the middle of the year. This team — we flipped the switch. Kevin (Kidd, crew chief) and I really got on the same page and we started having good runs. We were a pretty good team the second half of the year. Definitely performed the last quarter of the year with some top-five finishes, and got a pole at Chicago. We’re going to focus really on the last part of the year and continue to build and do the things that we started doing at the middle of the year that will make us better to come back in 2012 and be even stronger.

I don’t see any reason why this team can’t make the progress through the off-season and come back with the yellow and black Dollar General car and have a team good enough to run for the championship. I feel like Kevin Kidd (crew chief) and I have a relationship that is on really good terms. We’re really communicating well. We’re going to continue to work through the off-season just as hard — if not harder — than we worked all year. Come back and be a really strong team.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 10th

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 97 AM / FM Energy Pellet & Wood Stoves Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 16th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 19th

How would you look back at the 2011 season?

“Someone asked me the grade that I’d give this season — and I’d probably say a C+ — just because we started off so slow and behind. We made up a lot of ground throughout the summer and fell back behind it, and then made more gains. We know there are places we can make a lot of improvement in our program — mile-and-a-half tracks especially. So, that’s something we’re really going to work on in the off-season and come back on board with Rusty Wallace Racing and the No. 62. Hopefully, some more partners will come on board and help Steven’s (Wallace) car a little bit and that way can have a strong two car effort after the off-season.”

KEVIN CONWAY, No. 87 Extenze Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 25th

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 Federated Auto Parts Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

Finishing Position: 33rd

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 34th

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Phoenix International Raceway – November 12, 2011

- Joey Logano (fourth) was the highest finishing Toyota driver in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Phoenix International Raceway.

- Camry drivers Ryan Truex (eighth) and Michael Annett (10th) also earned top-10 finishes in the 200 lap event.

- Truex was also the highest finishing rookie in the race.

- Other Toyota drivers in the field included Joe Nemechek (12th), Kenny Wallace (17th), Steve Wallace (29th), and Brian Scott (41st).

- Four Camry drivers are among the top-10 in the unofficial NNS driver point standings — K. Wallace (seventh), Annett (eighth), Scott (ninth) and S. Wallace (10th).

- Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 18 Camry team currently leads the unofficial NNS owner point standings by one point after 33 of 34 races.

JOEY LOGANO, No. 18 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 4th

How was your race car today?

“We had a fast car. We had a pretty good GameStop Toyota. We just didn’t take off during restarts. The first 10 laps we were just junk — and we’d lose all the track position we had — and then we’d get going and be fast. It just took us too long. Once we got going we were all about the same speed too anyway. That’s awesome for Sam (Hornish). He’s a great guy. Awesome to see him win. Much rather have the old GameStop Toyota in victory lane. I felt like I had a car that can do it. Just had to work on our front side speed.”

How much did the track change during the race?

“Not as much as I thought, but it did change some for sure. Actually, the top side over in (turns) three and four actually starting working it self in pretty good. Just hard to figure out what you think the track is going to go in a certain direction — you adjust to it towards that and then it doesn’t do that. Then it’s really just an educated guessing game out there. It just didn’t change as much as I thought it would.”

Did you take advantage of the apron?

“Yeah. That’s a good way to pass cars. It’s really weird though. You go down there and I swear it about knocks your helmet off. It’s such a hard hit when you go down there. It’s such a shorter distance. You can drive right underneath a car doing it that way. It’s kind of weird. I don’t know if they’ll change anything about that to stop us from doing that. That’s one way we were passing cars, for sure. It was really weird.”

Why were drivers using the apron?

“It’s such a shorter distance. It feels like you’re cutting a quarter-mile off the track doing it that way.”

Do you expect to see drivers using the apron Sunday?

“Probably be a little bit harder in a Cup car, but I think people will do it.”

Did you learn anything that will help you Sunday?

“I learned quite a bit. This is one of those races that you’re glad you’re running double duty.”

RYAN TRUEX, No. 20 Martin Truex Jr. Foundation Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 8th

How was your race?

“It was good. I think we had a better car than where we finished. We started off there and just dropped back a little bit. Our car was too loose at the start of the run. We knew that was going to happen on the green flag. The track was just notin good shape at all. Pretty much everyone on the outside went backwards. We just worked on it and got it pretty good there on the long run, we were just a little too loose on the start of a run to stay up there with those guys. After about five laps we’d get really good, but those five laps we’d lose spots just because we were so free. It was a good day I guess, can’t complain about an eight-place finish with all the wrecked cars we have out here, so I’m happy about it.”

Did you use the dog leg to get around the track?

“Yes, very useful. We weren’t sure about it coming here. You look at it and it looks like there was so much room. If those guys were racing in front of you and you drive way down there, you can just blow by all of them. I don’t know how NASCAR feels about it, but it’s a pretty good way to pass some cars.”

What do you think about your chance to be series ‘Rookie of the Year’ this year?

“I don’t know if this is enough to take the lead or win it or what. I gave it my best and we’ll see what happens.”

How does it feel to be ‘Rookie of the Race’ in your final event of the year?

“I wasn’t worried about it in the race, I knew we had a good car and I knew we had all six races I’ve been in this car. It was a crazy race to say the least. The way you could pass people in the dog leg and drive way down like that was wild. There were a few guys out there that tried to get respect and I guess I have to earn it being a rookie. It was a good race. I think we should have finished better, we probably adjusted out of it a little bit in the end. I had fun and hopefully we can get ‘Rookie of the Year’.

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 10th

How was your race?

“Eventful, we didn’t start off with a top-10 car. We were disappointed because we did have holes in practice, so I guess with the sun beating down on the track all day, we just kind of got behind a little bit and were really free for three-quarters of the race and then the last 50 laps we got the car happy enough to where I felt comfortable actually driving it hard. We were smart, we knew the car we had and we knew we couldn’t run up through the field. We let them make their mistakes and we’ll be ready to jump on it and we did and came out of Phoenix with a top-10.”

What did you think of the new track after racing on it?

“It’s pretty crazy. It’s just hard for the spotters to say ‘inside.’ Really, I did more just watching the mirror and trying to see how much track was between myself and the car in the inside because as far as he is inside, but he might be four car lengths down there. If they say ‘three-wide,’ you just really don’t know. I said to my spotter, ‘what they need to do is put a big patch of triangle grass out there to keep everybody from going down there’ just because this place is hard enough for spotters to spot where they do from the corner, they don’t need that added complication.”

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 AM / FM Energy Pellet & Wood Stoves Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 12th

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

How was your car in qualifying? “It’s good. We were a little bit tight in turn four and it cost us some speed. We fought that a little bit in practice. Overall, it’s a decent lap, just not quite enough for what we wanted to do.”

KASEY KAHNE, No. 4 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team Starting Position: 9th

How was your car in qualifying? “It was good. The guys did a good job. We’re just a little bit tight and I missed it a little bit, but we were really close and the car has felt great ever since we got here.”

What were you looking at on your car after your qualifying run? “I was looking all the skirts and kind of the travels and things to see where we were. Everything was really nice, we just needed a little bit more.”

How will you approach practice for Sunday’s race? “We’ll try to be as smart about it as we can when we practice compared to when we race and how we go into the night and how things change. We’re trying to be prepared and have some good adjustments in the car built in so we can keep up with the track on Sunday afternoon.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 M&M’s Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 17th

How was your qualifying lap? “The balance wasn’t bad on our M&M’s Camry. We just lacked a little bit of speed there on our lap. We were pretty happy with the car in race trim in practice earlier today, so we’ll work on it tomorrow morning in practice and hopefully have a good race car for Sunday.”

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing Starting Position: 19th

How was your qualifying lap? “We were about like practice, just too loose.”

What do you need to do to get ready for Sunday’s race? “Well, tomorrow will be a whole different story. You know, we take the tape off and have to be good for a tire run and fuel run instead of just one lap. Hopefully that will go better tomorrow in our NAPA Toyota.”

BRIAN VICKERS, No. 83 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team Starting Position: 20th

How was your qualifying effort? “It was good. I was tight coming back to the line in turn four. I think that’s where I lost most of my time. I felt really good about one and two, just got too tight on three and four. I was hoping for a little bit better lap.”

Do you like qualifying on Friday and having more practice on Saturday? “I like the schedule we have here. If we’re going to run three-day shows, I think we should do a practice and qualifying and then two more practices on Saturday and then race on Sunday. The two practices, and then qualify on Saturday and race Sunday, we should just do two-day shows. If you really want to save the sport, do two-day shows instead of three-day shows and I think in that scenario I think two practices, qualify and race is good, but this year they started doing some of the racks did two on Friday, qualify on Saturday and race Sunday and Saturday just seems like a waste just to come in for two laps. I’m pretty happy with the Red Bull Toyota. It was good in practice. I liked to have been a little bit better in qualifying trim, but that’s alright.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 Home Depot Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 25th

How was your car in qualifying? “We’re struggling for speed right now. Even race trim, the car just doesn’t have a whole bunch of speed in it right now, so trying to find something. Working on stuff here and there. Going to be practice tomorrow. Hopefully we find something there.”

What do you need to do to get ready for Sunday’s race? “Well, tomorrow will be a whole different story. You know, we take the tape off and have to be good for a tire run and fuel run instead of just one lap. Hopefully that will go better tomorrow in our NAPA Toyota.”

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Office Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 28th

How was your car in qualifying? “We’re just struggling for speed. We are half-a-second off pretty much all day and just still can’t find where the speed is at. I’m driving the car pretty aggressively — it just doesn’t have any speed at the moment. It’s pretty typical for us in qualifying here.”

BOBBY LABONTE, No. 47 Wounded Warrior Project Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty Racing Starting Position: 32nd

How was your qualifying lap? “We just kind of scratch our heads a little bit. It felt like it was going to be faster than that. We only made two qualifying runs during practice and the second one we made felt like it was going to be faster and never was and this one felt like it would be faster, too and wasn’t. I don’t know if we have something just not helping ourselves speed-wise or what. The car felt pretty good. I used a ton of throttle and no brake and free-rolled pretty good. I don’t know. I’m a little confused as to why we didn’t go any faster — at least a .10th or so.”

What do you need to do to prepare for Sunday’s race? “We just have a lot of things that we did this morning. We really concentrated on our race trim package a little bit and then we did our qualifying package. Tried three or four different big things and I think we have some ideas there that will be beneficial for us on Sunday.”

CASEY MEARS, No. 13 GEICO Toyota Camry, Germain Racing Starting Position: 33rd

How was your qualifying effort? “It was okay. It’s a new car for us, so it’s been a better weekend in general for us. Ended up a little bit tight right there in qualifying. Ended up just off the bottom, so we lost a good 10th just being off the bottom of the race track. It’s not bad. I’m looking forward to seeing what it has in race trim tomorrow.”

Did you damage the splitter? “No. I just wanted to see how hard the splitter hit and it didn’t hit that hard. Just too tight in general and we’ll just see where it goes from here.”

MICHAEL MCDOWELL, No. 66 HP Racing, LLC Toyota Camry, Gunselman Motorsports Starting Position: 35th

How was your qualifying effort? “It’s so fast around here at Texas Motor Speedway. Turn one and two is actually kind of shaded right now, which we weren’t expecting, so a lot of grip in the race track. The HP Racing Toyota Camry is pretty good. Just hit the splitter a little bit in three and four, but I had a pretty good lap going. I was feeling pretty good getting into three and just drove it in a bit too far, but thankful to get in the race and we’ll be out there on Sunday.”

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 AM/FM Energy Wood & Pellet Stoves Camry, NEMCO Motorsports Starting Position: 40th

How do you feel to be locked into the field? “Well, you know the crew chief is on the radio with me and talking and he’s like, ‘I’ll tell you if you’re locked in after your first lap,’ but he never said anything. That’s the time you’re going into turn one, so I just tried to get everything I could. He never said anything and just thank goodness I picked it up just a tick on my second lap and we’re in the show.”

How was your qualifying lap? “We were real happy with the lap that we got for our Extenze Toyota Camry. For a small team like NEMCO Motorsports to come out and put an effort out against the mega teams — for a small handful of guys, it’s a really solid lap for us and we’re excited about tomorrow. It will give us a good starting spot and locks us into the show.”

BOBBY LABONTE, No. 47 Scott Products Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty Racing Starting Position: 21st

How was your qualifying lap? “It’s kind of one of these things at Daytona and Talladega — it’s what these guys do to it to make the car go fast. I feel like what they did in preparation and getting it to this point was obviously the key and that made it be faster than some other guys. The race is a whole different strategy and a whole different thing, but hopefully it will be good.”

How do you think the rule changes will affect the racing? “I don’t know — at least we have cool weather this weekend so it probably won’t make that much of a difference. I think that as the race evolve and NASCAR makes a change, the teams are really smart and they always come up with a way to get better when they are presented with an issue like water pressure. It’s going to be hard to say because in a pack of 40 tomorrow will be different than what we practiced yesterday.”

MICHAEL WALTRIP, No. 15 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing Starting Position: 23rd

How did your car feel in qualifying? “It’s good. I can tell it’s got great power — it never really runs out of power, which when you qualify at 170-something and race at 200 (miles per hour), you better not run out of power at 170 or something or you’re going to be in trouble when they throw the green because of the increase in speed. You can really feel the engine wanting to keep going and it’s a great feeling. Looking forward to tomorrow.”

What does it mean to run the special paint scheme this weekend? “It’s just an honor to say congratulations to my brother and it’s an honor to have shared some of the memories that we have together. I’ve never taken anything for granted. I’ve always just been a really thankful person. He (Darrell Waltrip) is the reason why I got to race cars. Maybe I would have thought of it on my own — I don’t know, but ever since I’ve been on this earth he’s been racing a car, so when I was born he was 16 and that meant he wa s out and on. I’ve admired him. I looked up to him. I respected him and I always wanted to be like him. The cool thing was that some 40 years later he never has let me down and he’s always been that guy that I wanted to be like. It’s just fun to say thank you.”

KASEY KAHNE, No. 4 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team Starting Position: 26th

How was your car in qualifying? “It seemed alright. That was the first time we made a lap by ourselves. It feels so slow on this big of a race track. You just kind of go around. But I think that was a pretty good lap for a Toyota to this point. I think we are one of the better ones as far as just single lap speed. Feels good to have a good car. We were really good in the draft yesterday. I look forward to that tomorrow.”

What do you think about before the race Sunday? “Just how to make sure you do the best you can in keeping the cars hooked together. Just all the little things you learn throughout the year doing this type of racing. Just trying to do it right and not make mistakes or not put yourself in a bad spot to the best of your ability.” – more -

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 NEMCO Motorsports Camry, NEMCO Motorsports Starting Position: 27th

How do you feel about competing at Talladega? “I’ve got to thank all the guys on this NEMCO Motorsports Toyota Racing crew. This is the same car that we ran at Daytona — we started last in Daytona, drove up and took the lead, went back, came back to the front and on that last green-white- checkered, we got in a big sandwich there. Basically, we have a new body on our car. We haven’t been to the wind tunnel. Just tried to put it back like it was and we’re off a little bit from where it was, but we’ve had to work really hard and a lot of late nights getting this thing done. It’s fun coming here to Talladega. It’s a special place and I’ve got a lot of poles here. We just need some backing. If we can get some funding, we can get out here and compete with these guys. The way the plate rules are, I think it’s equal for anybody. You never know who is going to win and it’s like a chess match. Whoever can be in the right spot at the end is going to have a shot at winning. We’re doing all we can do.”

MICHAEL MCDOWELL, No. 66 HP Racing, LLC Toyota Camry, HP Racing Starting Position: 29th

BRIAN VICKERS, No. 83 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team Starting Position: 30th

How was your qualifying lap? “It was fine. It was just qualifying at Talladega and you just hold it wide open. Doing 200 miles-per-hour is always fun, but it was a decent lap. We were hoping to do better, but I think the wind has picked up a lot and I think that hurt us a lot.”

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Office Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 31st

How was your qualifying lap? “They restrict us down so slow and we have such a big blade on the back of these cars slowing us down and such a small restrictor plate that you do everything you can to just keep wheel out of the car, make sure you drive a straight line, use all the race track as possible on that first lap to try to gain speed and that’s all you can do. We’re running such a slow speed that there’s not much to it.”

Would you be in favor of larger restrictor plates? “We need to go a long way. I just feel like if you opened it up a little bit to where we could run 185 (miles per hour) by ourselves or somewhere in that range — you’re not going to be able to use the two-car draft. Then the peak speed won’t be as high because we won’t be in a pack. I’m in favor of opening them up. Make handling be more of a factor and get away from the two-car draft.”

Who will be your drafting partner on Sunday? “We’ve worked with the 39 (Ryan Newman) for the last three years or so on superspeedways and even before this pairing up started, we were always working together. It’s a good combination. It’s interesting that he’s got a faster car than what we have, but he’s not as fast pushing as what I am pushing him. There’s just something to that and we’ve scientifically figured it out.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 M&M’s Halloween Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 34th

How does the back-up car compare to your primary car? “The back-up car is just as good. It didn’t feel much different at all when we got out there. The first couple laps when we got out there, we got hooked up with Joey (Logano) there and he pushed at the exact same speed and got pushed at the exact same speed as the other car. The fast time in the other car came from a pack of cars where we sucked up on them and got a good run with them. Overall, we feel comfortable with this M&M’s Camry and it should be good for tomorrow. We will get teamed up with Joey and see how our day unfolds.”

Do you think about qualifying near Joey Logano so you can get hooked up early? “Not really — not at all. If Joey (Logano) ends up qualifying 12th and we end up 35th, it doesn’t really change anything. It’s just a matter of running at it the first little while in the race and then getting hooked up eventually. If we get separated a little we’re not worried about it. It’s the end of the race that you don’t want to get separated too much.”

Are Chase contenders more conservative in this race? “Typically, you want to get a good result out of here too. There are 22 or 25 cars that finish on the lead lap here so you certainly don’t want to be at the tail end of that. You still have to run hard and finish with a good top-10. I think if we can come out of here with a top-10, it would be like a win for us. Just to be able to move on.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 Home Depot Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 35th

Are you pleased to be starting near Kyle Busch? “We’ll be really close. We’ll work our way up there once the race starts. We didn’t expect to qualify very well and it is what it is here. It doesn’t really matter a whole lot where you qualify — we’ll just work our way up there and position ourselves and see how the race plays out at that point.”

What can you do to adjust on the cars during the race? “There is not actually too much that we can do. Maybe when you are pushing, you can try to make the car a little more stable or maybe some little things you can do to maybe get a little more speed in the car. For the most part we are just wide open and mainly just trying to find a way to work with the guy that you are working with and be able to work with Kyle (Busch) better. With the way we’re pushing and trying to find more speed doing different things with the driver in the car more than what you can do with the chassis of the car.”

DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing Starting Position: 36th

How was your car in qualifying? “It was okay. It’s really hard to tell anything. You’re out there by yourself and there is nothing exciting going on. I will try to have some meetings and stuff with the guys before the race and figure out some different scenarios that may happen during the course of the day and how we will react to them. Other than that, there is really not much else you can do.”

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 56 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing Starting Position: 37th

How do you think the rule changes will impact the race? “Honestly, I don’t think it’s going to be a whole lot different. We could push just as long yesterday as we could in the spring. I think NASCAR changed the rules to keep us from pushing as long, but we’ve worked on our cars since then so it kind of equaled out and I don’t think it will be a whole lot different.”

CASEY MEARS, No. 13 GEICO Toyota Camry, Germain Racing Starting Position: 42nd

How are you able to move up during the race at Talladega? “Depending on how well you can work with somebody — that really determines how you can do in the race. Not so much whether you have the fastest car, but who works well together and who can stay connected the most. It will be interesting to see how the first half of the race goes, but at the end if you have the right car then you can definitely get to the front. This is definitely one of those places where in five laps you can be leading this race if you get connected with the right guy. That’s the big thing tomorrow is to stay out of the mess and hopefully be connected to the right person and get to the front.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Charlotte Motor Speedway – October 14, 2011

- Kyle Busch (second) was the highest finishing Toyota driver in Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

- Busch’s finish marked his 12th top-five result at Charlotte in 17 career NNS starts at the speedway.

- Camry driver Brian Scott also earned a top-five result with a fifth-place finish in the 200-lap race — his second top-five finish this season in the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) No. 11 Camry.

- Camry drivers Steve Wallace (13th), Kenny Wallace (16th), Michael Annett (17th), Joey Logano (19th), Ryan Truex (34th), Kevin Conway (36th) and Joe Nemechek (37th) were also in the field at the mile-and-a-half oval.

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

How was your race car tonight?

“It was really good on long runs. Slow on short runs — didn’t have enough under the hood to keep up. Got out-motored on that last restart and finished second.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What did it mean to run strong at a mile-and-a-half track after struggling earlier this season?

“We were really excited to have the opportunity to be up there. Mile-and-a-half tracks have not been our greatest tracks this year, but we’ve come a long way. I’m really proud of this team — this Z-Line Designs team and everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing. You know, we had a shot at it there and if we did everything right tonight the one thing that we struggled with a little bit is still the restarts. I think it’s just a product of horsepower, or you know whatever. And, those guys have been really good all year in that category. Kyle (Busch) did a great job all night. I don’t think he got beat there from a talent standpoint, obviously. He drove a phenomenal race. Just for us to be up there and be close and be in the fray is great. It was
a good night for us. Unfortunately, we came up one short. But, I’m really proud of Kyle and what he did and proud of this race team.”

What seems to be so tough at these mile-and-a-half tracks?

“It seems like we just always finish third at these mile-and-a-half tracks. These Dodges and Fords just seem really strong and they’ve got some of their set-ups figured out. We’ve been working hard on our set-up to get it better. I think we showed tonight that we did. I think at one point we had all three of our Joe Gibbs (Racing) cars in the top-seven and they were all three running strong. We just didn’t need to see the caution. Once we got the thing wound up and got it going, we could run with anybody, but we needed that clean air at the end and the 60 (Carl Edwards) got in front of us – it takes so much to get by him, especially on cold tires like that. If we had 10 more laps, who knows, maybe Kyle (Busch) drove up there and gave him
a little more run for his money. Just not enough laps left to get it done.”

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Doosan Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

How was your race tonight?

“We started off really not where we wanted to, but we were able to hang out right near the top-10. The pit crew did a great job always moving us forward on spots. Kevin (Kidd, crew chief) did good adjustments and that just kept us in the hunt until we could get our car right. Towards the end of the race we had our car pretty good and we were able to gain some more positions and have some more good pit stops. We just kept working towards the front from about the middle of the race on and we made it count at the end when it mattered. That was great and we were able to bring home a top-five for Doosan and it was great to have them on the car. They are such a terrific partner at Joe Gibbs Racing and our Camry was just fast when it counted. That’s all that matters.”

How much momentum does your team have following this run?

“We’ve had some really good runs lately. We’ve ran up there the last — seems like five races. We haven’t really finished up there a couple times — Kansas comes to mind and Dover comes to mind. We’re capable of running up there and now we’re getting more finishes up there. We’ve got a lot of strength with this team and we’re going to end this year really strong and we’re going to go into next year representing Dollar General and try to win them a championship.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 13th

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 Thank You Fans! Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

Finishing Position: 16th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 17th

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 19th

How was your race car tonight and what happened when you hit the wall?

“We had a solid, strong top-five car. We could run third at times, fourth at times and we got up to second there for a little bit. Carl (Edwards) was really fast there at the end. I was doing everything I could to hold him off — I was doing anything. Since he got to the outside of me and the 6 (Ricky Stenhouse Jr.) was following him and he just went in right on my door — right on my door. I just lost control of it and spun it out — well, I didn’t spin it out — I just put it in the wall. Unfortunately — we were better than that. We were making progress because we haven’t been this good lately. We’ll take it.”

What happened between you and Kyle Busch on a mid-race restart?

“I was wanting a one-two finish there and was trying to get him. At times I was better than Kyle (Busch) and then Kyle got pretty good throughout the race and got his car a little bit better than mine. We were pretty close to each other all day. I think our 20 team has made progress over the last few weeks here and making our car better. Obviously, I don’t have the finish to show it today, but I think we ran definitely a lot better than what we have been so we’ll take that.”

Do you think Kyle Busch was mad at you from that restart?

“I don’t think Kyle (Busch) is mad at me. The only thing that bummed him out was that he was leading the race and the caution came out that cost him the win. I didn’t want to wreck my car so it hurt me worse even. It’s a bummer that we lost a win for Joe Gibbs Racing, but we’re doing all we can do. Just trying hard.”

RYAN TRUEX, No. 99 Toyota Camry, Pastrana-Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 34th

What happened that took you out of the race?

“I just blew a tire — out of nowhere with no warning or anything. We just blew a right front. I hate it for these guys. They worked so hard to get this car built and now it’s wrecked. Frustrating night. We had a motor problem right from the start of the race. We were down on power. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know if we broke a valve spring or what. We were way down on power so I would have to run the outside just to keep up with those guys. We were in for a long night either way and unfortunately we came up short.”

KEVIN CONWAY, No. 87 Extenze Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 36th

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 97 AM / FM Energy Pellet & Wood Stove Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 37th

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Chicagoland Speedway – September 17, 2011

- Brian Scott (third) was the highest finishing Toyota driver in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Chicagoland Speedway.

- Scott earned his first career pole and led the field two times for five laps en route to equaling his career best NNS
finish.

- Camry drivers Ryan Truex (13th), Michael Annett (16th), Kenny Wallace (17th), Steve Wallace (18th), Joey Logano (19th) and Kevin Conway (24th) were also in the field at Chicagoland.

- Five Camry drivers are currently in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings following 28 of 34 races in the 2011 season — K. Wallace (seventh), S. Wallace (eighth), Scott (ninth), Annett (10th), and Nemechek (14th).

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 3rd

How was your race?

“The time that a lot of guys took two tires and we took four really paid off in the long run. The way that the first couple cautions fell, I felt like the end of the race was going to be a long run race and it was. Kevin Kidd (crew chief) and all the guys on my Shore Lodge Toyota did an awesome job making adjustments — keeping us in it for the long haul. I think there at the end we were a little faster than Carl (Edwards), but he was a little better in the traffic, and we just got a little too loose. After some of the luck we’ve had and had a fifth-place run ruined at Montreal, to be able to finish third here is a pretty good day.”

What does this finish mean to your season?

“This just makes me more excited to hurry up and get the off weekend over with and get back to racing. We’ll go to Dover and hopefully have a good run — another track that I really like.”

How do you feel about today’s finish?

“I feel really good about our run. It’s good to be back in the media center to actually do one of these things — it’s been too long. It’s good to see your faces. We had a good day all day long. We got the pole, led the first lap, but the 22 (Brad Keselowski) was really strong. We knew we were going to have to battle him all day and we needed to get our car better to do that. Through series of good pit stops and good adjustments from Kevin Kidd (crew chief), we started getting our No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota where it needed to be and I think that the long runs towards the end of the race really played to our advantage and our favor and we were able to make up a lot of ground, pass a lot of cars and have a pretty good race with Carl (Edwards) there for second.”

What do you think is needed to continue to get good finishes like today?

“Just the consistency that we have in the team. To have a solid crew chief and the group of guys that we have on our team, and then to continue to put fast race cars on the race track. Racing with the Cup guys is the best experience that a Nationwide guy can get. You’re not going to get to that level unless you’re racing them. It took us a little bit to really hit on my feel for these new cars — going from the old Nationwide car and not having any Cup experience. But, we really have kind of started to find that and really dial in on it. Our performance has been a lot better than our finishes have shown lately. Today, I think it shows where our performance is capable of a team in a field full of a lot of Cup drivers. I’m proud of the effort and we just need to keep having runs like this to make it happen more often.”

RYAN TRUEX, No. 20 Martin Truex Jr. Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 13th

How was your race today?

“We had a top-10 car. We just spun at the beginning there — I spun there — and we had to make our way back. The same as last week, but at mile-and-a-half tracks it’s a lot harder to make spots up than on a short track. We just battled back and forth — tight and loose.”

What happened when you spun?

“I don’t know if the 88 (Aric Almirola) got loose under me or what. I got hit in the left rear. I don’t know if he got loose or got pushed up into me, or what.”

Does it mean anything to come back from the early spin to finish among the top-15?

“Not really. We had a better car than that. We should have finished at least top-10.”

How are things working with Joe Gibbs Racing?

“Everything is working right. They have fast cars every weekend. Need to just not start off these races with such bad luck.
Last week it was the ignition. This week we spun out.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Atlanta Motor Speedway – September 3, 2011

- Camry driver Kyle Busch (second) was the top finishing Toyota driver in Saturday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

-Busch’s finish was his fourth runner-up finish at the 1.5-mile oval and third consecutive second-place finish in the NNS at the Georgia speedway.

- Camry drivers Ryan Truex (11th), Brian Scott (12th), Steve Wallace (13th), Joe Nemechek (18th), Kenny Wallace (19th) and Michael Annett (20th) were also in the field.

- Five Camry drivers are currently in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings following 26 of 34 races in the 2011 season — K. Wallace (seventh), S. Wallace (eighth), Scott (ninth), Annett (10th) and Nemechek (14th).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

Did you have anything for Carl Edwards at the end of the race?

“No. That’s it. We were all kind of stuck on the bottom tonight. Wish we would have spread out and moved around and never did. Now can’t say enough about these guys from Joe Gibbs Racing, all the guys here on this Z-Line Designs Furniture Toyota Camry. Good car, jut not good enough. We knew that it would be a race against the Fords. They got great under the hoods. Just hated that we didn’t have enough under the hood to run with them a little bit better, but even in the long haul we got real loose an those guys seem to be better. We would equal out. Then I would be better. Then he would be better. It was all about how you could get to the bottom of the race track and how you could run the bottom. Overall, thank Z-Line,
NOS Energy Drink, Pizza Ranch, Toyota, everybody. Thanks again.”

Were you ‘dirt tracking’ around Atlanta?

“That’s all it is here anymore. I hated that the track didn’t spread out more. I thought that this place would get to its normal self and we would be able to run the middle, run the top, but it never did. We were all kind if stuck around the bottom, so anytime you could get within three or four car lengths of the guy in front of you, you kind of stalled out and couldn’t get by them unless they would slip on the bottom or get caught up in lap traffic or something. We had a great car. I can’t say enough about the guys from Joe Gibbs Racing. They did a great job here on this Z-Line Designs Furniture Camry. Just hate it that we didn’t have enough to go for the win and enough to race with the Fords there under the hood down the
straightaways, but we’ll take it and we’ll move on to the next one, where ever the heck it is.”

Why was the bottom groove the most popular tonight?

“It was really great race overall, but just kind of disappointed the race track didn’t spread out more. We didn’t run the middle, the top or nothing. It was all kind of fast guys around the bottom, so that was unfortunate. But can’t say enough about all my guys here on the JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) Z-Line Designs Furniture Camry. They did a great job for me and gave me everything we needed, but just not quite enough. I felt like we were running them down and getting there, but maybe he (Carl Edwards) was toying with us.”

Have the Roush Nationwide cars closed the gap on Joe Gibbs Racing?

“Yeah. We used to have an advantage through the corners with our cars and the setup with the old car. We didn’t have the advantage down the straightaway, so it equaled out. We were pretty good. Now, it seems like everybody is so equal through the corners that if you can get some straightaway speed that sort of accentuates your car and makes you look a little better. We don’t have straightaway speed right now. We’ve got to get to work on that and try to make it better.”

How do you feel about tonight’s race?

“I guess it was a good race. Certainly, the track didn’t widen out like we always, normally expect it to do here. There didn’t seem to be a very good middle or top side. Everybody was kind of fighting for the bottom and trying to run that yellow line around the race track. Hard to pass guys in that case when you try to get up behind them and you’re slipping and sliding already and such on edge that when you get three or four car lengths behind them and lose more down force, then you’re sliding even worse.

Certainly was an exciting race there for a little while on restarts. You would run back and forth and dive bomb guys and get on their outside, their inside and once it kind of single files out then it’s tough to go. You can see the cars that are free to start with kind of go to the front and then the guys that have better long run cars kind of come up through. I felt like we were one of the long run cars that certainly got better with laps. Just didn’t have enough on the front side. If we had enough on the front side and enough on the back side then we would have been the best car here. Z-Line Designs Camry just wasn’t quite what it needed to be, but was close and gave them a run for their money.”

Why did the race track not widen out?

“I don’t know. I tried it in practice today and both the Nationwide Series and the Cup car and both times I went to the top I was slower. I hate to say it, but I think we’re predicting the future for tomorrow and it’s going to be a crash fest to the bottom. It’s just too far around I guess and there’s not that much grip up there anymore that you can get that sort of advantage. All the cars are equal and run pretty well and fast around the bottom that there’s just not a good enough top side. The truck was the same way. I couldn’t get the truck to work around the top throughout the race either. Kind of disappointing, but it is what it is.”

RYAN TRUEX, No. 20 Schick Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 11th

How was your race tonight?

“It was long and hard. We started off really good for about 10 laps. I got us hung out on that first start and I got stuck in the middle and got freight-trained there. After that we were just loose. No matter what we did, we couldn’t fix it. At the end there we got lucky and we were able to put tires on and drive by a lot of those guys. I’m happy with the finish. I wish it could have been better, but I guess not bad for our first race.”

What does this opportunity with Joe Gibbs Racing mean to you?

“It means a lot. It’s a big deal for me. It’s Joe Gibbs Racing. To have six races with them is pretty awesome so I am just going to try to make the best of it.”

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Boise State Broncos Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 12th

How did your car handle in the race?

“We fought hard all day. We had two runs where we were just way too loose and we gave up a bunch of track position. Luckily, a caution fell when we needed it to and we got the lucky dog and we got back in the game. We still had tires left – - we put tires on and we had a restart and we started 13th and I thought we were going to be pretty good with 20 laps to go or whatever. The 31 (Justin Allgaier) and the 32 (Reed Sorenson) wrecked and they just got a little piece of it down the right side.

From that point on we were just too tight until the end of the race and we were hanging on just trying to get what we could get. Too fast to get up there and get a top-10, but all in all for a hard day here in Atlanta, we’ll take 12th and we’ll go on. Our Boise State Bronco isn’t torn up too bad and it’s a good car. It will live to race another day.”

What type of reaction did you get driving the Boise State car tonight?

“I got a whole lot of boos going around and a whole lot of people yelling, ‘Bulldogs,’ so I just pointed at my suit and yelled, ‘Broncos’ back. It’s all been fun and it’s all been in good fun. It’s been a lot of fun to have the Boise State Broncos on the car and it’s gotten reactions out of people — good, bad, indifferent, but it’s fun to see people care.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 13th

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 NEMCO Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 18th

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 G-Oil Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

Finishing Position: 19th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot / Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 20th

JOHN JACKSON, No. 72 crashclaims.US Toyota Camry

Finishing Position: 31st

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Bristol Motor Speedway – August 26, 2011

- Camry driver Kyle Busch won Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Tennessee’s Bristol Motor Speedway. Busch crossed the finish line .019 seconds ahead of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Joey Logano marking the closest finish in Bristol history.

- Busch’s win marked his 50th career NNS race win in 219 career starts — becoming the leader in all-time wins in the series.

- Tonight’s win marked the third consecutive NNS win for Busch at the half-mile bullring.

- Busch started tonight’s race from the pole and led a total of 186 (of 250 laps). Logano led once for 12 laps.

- Michael Annett (sixth) and Brian Scott (10th) also finished in the top-10 for Toyota

- Camry drivers Steve Wallace (14th), David Reutimann (20th), Joe Nemechek (21st), Kevin Conway (29th) and Kenny Wallace (36th) were also in the field.

- Five Camry drivers are currently in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings following 25 of 34 races in the 2011 season — K. Wallace (seventh), S. Wallace (eighth), Scott (ninth), Annett (10th) and Nemechek (14th).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 1st

What did you think of the battle with Joey Logano in the closing laps?

“I don’t know where he (Joey Logano) came from to be honest with you. I don’t know where Joey came from, but he had a rocket ship there at the end. I just kept getting a little bit looser and a little bit looser the more we ran there. Had to protect the bottom there a little bit there and we just kept rolling the bottom because he wanted it. I thought that maybe the top wasgoing to win the thing — just trying to pinch him down a little bit. He used me up right here through three and four. I’m sure the fans loved. I’m sure they wanted to see him win too, anybody but Kyle (Busch).”

How does it feel to win 50 Nationwide races?

“It’s awesome. We had Mark (Martin) with us there in Loudon (N.H.) and just a phenomenal way to be able to win 49 races and tie Mark Martin and then to come here and be able to beat his record at Bristol — one of my favorite places and one of the teams’ favorite places. Certainly, an awesome race tonight. We had a great race car. Clint (Bowyer) I thought was going to get us and he was going to be the one we would have to beat. Turned out I had to race Joey (Logano), my own teammate there. Those guys had a great race car — congratulations to the GameStop guys. They had a really nice car. Can’t say enough about Toyota, Nationwide Insurance for coming along in this series with us — Gillette, Marquis Jets and the fans.
We love to come out here — we love it and we love to get to victory lane powered by NOS and going to be here all weekend.”

What were you thinking on the final lap?

“I knew his spotter (Joey Logano’s) was going to tell him, ‘use him up through three and four.’ So I planned on it and I knew he was coming. I was just hoping that the top side with the momentum would help me drag race to the start-finish line and beat him. We beat him just by a little bit so a little bit is all that matters.”

Do they need to name a grandstand after you at Bristol?

“One of these days.”

Where does breaking Mark Martin’s record rank in your accomplishments?

“There’s an awful lot of accomplishments and it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where they fall. Certainly tonight’s a pretty big one. Just being able to race that hard and race against a teammate like that, knowing that he had just as good of stuff as I did. To barely beat him there at the end — if there was two more laps he probably would have got me. It was only 250 (laps) tonight so that was all we needed. Certainly, it was great to have Mark (Martin) with us in victory lane in Loudon (N.H.) and take some photos with him for tying him. Tonight was our night. Being able to beat him and get atop the all-time win list in the Nationwide Series was special for us as a team and for me as a driver and Samantha (Busch, wife) as well. This is cool and hopefully we can come back and perform again tomorrow night and do the same thing.”

Do you prefer a close battle or to run away with a win?

“I think blowing a field away provides more satisfaction because you know you just waxed their butts. For being as close as it was there with Joey (Logano) certainly we didn’t intend for it to be that close. Joey put on a nice run there at the end and came on us there a little bit to get right up to my bumper and then I wasn’t sure if I wanted to give him the inside or the outside. I kept getting a little too loose whenever I would go down to the bottom and try to run around the bottom of the race track there.

I don’t know if it was aero or him being so close to me or just me and the right rear just sliding out from under me. The middle was about the place that I could carry the most momentum and just carry the throttle and run down the straightaways a bit faster than he. I knew if it came down to a race where we were going to bang each other’s doors through three and four like it did, that getting back to the gas and just coming through turn four as hard as you could and making it back to the start-finish line, taking the momentum from the top side was going to be the way to do it.”

Was the racing between yourself and Joey Logano clean because you are teammates?

“Certainly it would have been a lot uglier had it not been a teammate. Who’s to say what would have happened, but depending on who you would have been racing with is how dirty it would have got. Certainly Joey (Logano) needed to do what he needed to do to try to win and all I can remember is going through one and two and down the backstretch and him easing up on my inside a little bit. All I can hear is Mark (Robertson), his spotter telling him right now, ‘Use him up, use him up.’ That’s all I could hear in my ears so I was planning for it the whole time and just knew if I could not let him run me too high and get me up in the trash then I could still try to turn and get back to the gas and get back to the start-finish line. I wasn’t sure how bad he was going to try to use me up, but just enough to where I would have done the same thing and he did what he needed to do and that was cool.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What does being a part of Kyle Busch’s 50th career NNS win mean to you?

“It’s exciting. We knew it would eventually come. It seemed like it was a tough one. To win and especially to win your 50th like that –one of the closest finishes as you mentioned is a big deal. Too close for me. The Z-Line car was good tonight and like Kyle (Busch) said, it was good right off the truck. We worked really hard on making it turn better and then we worked really hard on making it not turn so good all night long. Never really got it. It seemed like the more I worked on it, the worse it got. Kyle did a great job and I was surprised that Joey (Logano) — of course those guys, him and Adam (Stevens, crew chief) and the 20 team, they do a nice job every week. I knew if it went green he would start running us back down. I could see his lap times start picking up there. It was a fun race and it’s good to be a part of Kyle’s 50th win obviously.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

What did you think of that battle?

“So close. It’s all you can really say about that. We had a good GameStop Toyota. Kyle took off there better on tires. We were on old tires there. He was freeing up. I was catching him through the traffic and the last lap I had a good one and two, got underneath him and I did everything besides wreck him to try to pass him there and, man, it was just so close. It’s frustrating when you’re coming across the line and you’re looking at his nose compared to yours and you’re like, ‘Agh,’ like three inches. It’s frustrating, but what a day for JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing). A one-two finish coming across the line that close rubbing doors. It’s cool. I just wish I was the one celebrating on the front straightaway now.”

Did you know Kyle Busch has won the race?

“Yeah, I knew it. It was close, but I could tell. We gave it our best shot. I did everything I possibly can do. Looking back at it right now, I don’t know what else I could have done to try to pass him besides wrecking him and that ain’t the right thing to do when he’s your teammate.”

Did you know how small the margin was?

“I know. I know it was that much. I saw it. It’s a frustrating deal. It stinks to be that close and you don’t get the win. It’s two times this year. Dover and then here that we’ve been so close to win these things and we didn’t put it together. Just when he got those fresh tires there, he was able to get by me with new tires and did everything I can to keep up and once the tires kind of equaled out, I was catching him through the traffic and then I got under him a couple of times, couldn’t clear him and I knew I had one more shot there on the last lap. My one and two was really good. My car was really good through that corner. Three and four, I was never able to clear anybody. I just wasn’t as good in that end. I made sure I got to door-to-door with him and I was going to slide it down in there and do everything besides wrecking him and I went in there and slid him up the
race track, bounced off doors and all. It was fun.

It would be a- lot more fun if I was the one in victory lane. Either way, it’s really cool for JGR. A one-two finish that close, rubbing the doors across the line there — it’s really neat. Man, I wish I had a couple more. I don’t know if I could have gotten one more lap, but I think I maybe could have gotten him through one and two if I had another lap there. Good car. Guys did a good job today with things. We’ll take it. We’re building on it. We’re getting better with these cars, so it’s good.”

Did you think you could get by Kyle Busch on the final restart?

“On the restart and he (Kyle Busch) was looking up on the topside pretty early. I was like, ‘Man, he’s going to get by me here and this ain’t going to be pretty.’ I started holding him off and shoot, I got a two-car length lead on him and kind of maintained there for a little bit then he moved up and found some speed up there. He drove right by me. I saw that I was starting to maintain and then in traffic I started getting a couple cars here and there. I saw that wad of traffic coming there with about five or six to go and it was about four or five cars and I thought that if they could just hold him up enough.

A lot of times they hold up the leader and then the second-place guy usually gets it easier. That’s what happened, but our car was faster at the end for sure. Between both of that, we were definitely able to get close. I wish I had a couple more laps. I think he was still slowing up and if we kept running laps then he was going to keep getting slower and I was going to get by him eventually. Just came up a little bit short.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis – July 30, 2011

- Camry driver Joe Nemechek (seventh) was the top finishing Toyota driver in Saturday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

- Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Drew Herring (eighth) and Michael McDowell (10th) also finished in the top-10 for Toyota.

- Camry drivers Kenny Wallace (12th), Brian Scott (15th), Michael Annett (29th) and Steve Wallace (30th) were also in the field.

- Five Camry drivers are currently in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings following 21 of 34 races in the 2011 season — K. Wallace (seventh), S. Wallace (eighth), Scott (ninth), Annett (10th) and Nemechek (15th).

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 NEMCO Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position:7th

DREW HERRING, No. 20 SportClips Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position:8th

How was your race at Lucas Oil Raceway?

“Let’s just talk about this whole day. Man, we started out here — I’d never seen this race track. I grew up racing short tracks but that doesn’t mean anything. These guys did an amazing job all day long. We struggled in practice. We never really found the balance that was comfortable for me to make fast laps. We got racing and we were right where we ended up in practice — we just weren’t good. We were fighting really tight conditions in the center and really free on the exit. Adam (Stevens, crew chief) and the guys kept busting their tail and we kept our nose clean all night long. That’s the most important thing to do out here in this series. If you can stay clean and last to the end, you can get a solid finish and that’s what we did — just attrition. I just can’t thank SportClips, everybody at Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota — everybody for their hard work and giving me this opportunity. This has been a blast. I hope I get to do some more.”

What happened on the green-white-checkered finish?

“That’s just hard racing. Michael (McDowell) was getting pushed from behind and I think he got pushed into us and got us really loose. We all but wrecked, just bouncing around like a ping pong ball on the backstretch. Finally gathered it up and salvaged a good finish. This is just a long day. It’s very gratifying though to struggle like we did and have the guys continue to bust their tails. The guys in the pits did an amazing job with pit stops. All day we gained spots. I even got busted earlier with a speeding penalty and had to go to the rear and fought our way back. It was just a long day. I’m glad it ended up as good as it did.”

MICHAEL McDOWELL, No. 18 Muscle Milk Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position:10th

How did you get shuffled back on the final restart?

“That was just a result of a green-white-checkered and I got in the wrong lane. Drew (Herring) got a little sideways and just had to roll out of the gas and as soon as I did, I lost three or four spots. Really unfortunate for the Muscle Milk Toyota. We were pretty good tonight and ran in the top-five most of the night. Just didn’t get that last green-white-checkered — seems like the last few weekends that has been the case for me.”

Are you looking forward to running the 18 car over the coming two races?

“Get some momentum with these 18 guys — Jason Ratcliff (crew chief). Just want to thank everyone at Joe Gibbs Racing. It’s a great opportunity and very thankful for it.”

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 Federated Auto Parts Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

Finishing Position:12th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position:15th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot / Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position:29th

What happened on the race track?

“I was just trying to pass lap traffic there. I knew I had cars with newer tires behind me and we took two tires there. I was just trying to hang on and kept getting looser and looser as our run was going. I was trying to pass the cars probably quicker than I needed to. It was getting there towards the end of the race and couldn’t waste any time. I tried it and couldn’t handle it getting into the corner.”

What were you thinking when your teammate Steve Wallace was about to hit you?

“It was horrible, I was already trying to grab switches so we didn’t go a lap down and try to get it repaired. I just saw Steve (Wallace) — he checked up for the wreck and someone got into him. It’s a shame to tear up both Rusty Wallace Racing cars, they were both really good tonight. We ran top-10 all night and next weekend is Iowa and that’s the big one for us.”

What happened that took you out of the race?

“I got loose there underneath the 40 (Tim Andrews) — I think we were lapping him for about the 10th time tonight. We did take two tires and we didn’t have four — I knew the 18 (Michael McDowell) and the 22 (Brad Keselowski) were behind me on four and I didn’t want to waste any time. I got a couple car lengths on them after we battled for about 50 laps door to door. I was probably over aggressive on my part, but it’s just a shame to tear up a good race car — actually two Rusty Wallace Racing cars. I heard Steven (Wallace) I guess got jacked up from behind slowing up for the wreck when the guy behind him didn’t see it and tore us both up. Just a shame, but we have Iowa next weekend and that’s a big one for us.”

Were you upset with Tim Andrews after the accident?

“He (Tim Andrews) came over to the window and he said we ruined both our nights. I said, ‘But your night was ruined before the race even started because you were planning on running around 20 miles off the pace.’ I just don’t appreciate anyone coming up to my window like that. We can talk about it out here afterwards. I just wanted to make sure rightaway that he knew that wasn’t cool with me.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position:30th

What happened that took you out of the race?

“I don’t really know what happened. Our 5-Hour Energy Toyota — we kept working on it all night long and kept making it better and better. My spotter came over the radio and said there was a crash in front of you and by that time, me and James Buescher were racing hard. We raced about 15 or 20 laps and finally got underneath of him and got him cleared. He bumped me a little bit getting into turn three and at the same time my spotter said, ‘Check up, check up, check up.’ I got in the brakes and the care got sideways. It just slid all the way through the corner and there was nothing I could do except try to nail it to accelerate away from Michael (Annett). It was just one of those racing deals. I hate it for both of our cars. Both of our cars were running good and we were getting better. It’s just one of those things.”

What happened to take you out of the race?

“I’m not real sure what happened in front of me. Two cars got together, they got spun out and me and James Buescher were racing side-by-side for about 15 to 20 laps and I finally cleared him and then my spotter said check-up, check-up because the guys were crashing in front of me. By the time I got in the brakes, I got hit in the rear a little bit and shot me sideways getting into turn three. You’re on the brakes so hard at that point, right when I got hit, I got on the brakes. The car got sideways, I tried to get in the gas and tried to accelerate away from those guys. I had nowhere to go. We hate it for the Pilot guys and 5-Hour Energy guys — we had a good car tonight, so did Michael (Annett). It’s one of those racing
things. We’ll go to Iowa and give a run at it again, I guess.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Daytona International Speedway — July 1, 2011

- Camry driver Joey Logano won Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Daytona International Speedway.

- Logano led the final lap (of 100) at the 2.5-mile superspeedway with a push to the finish line from Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch.

- The win marks the ninth career NNS victory for Logano and the 61st triumph for Toyota since joining series competition in 2007. It also was Logano’s first Nationwide Series win of 2011.

- Busch (fourth), Michael Annett (sixth) and Kenny Wallace (seventh) also finished in the top-10 for Toyota.

- Camry drivers Steve Wallace (11th), Brian Scott (12th), Kevin Conway (25th) and Joe Nemechek (26th) were also in the field.

- Five Camry drivers are currently in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings following 17 of 35 races in the 2011 season — K. Wallace (seventh), S. Wallace (eighth), Scott (ninth), Annett (10th) and Joe Nemechek (25th).

Finishing Position: 1st

What happened on the final lap?

“It just feels good to be on this side of it. Usually, I’m in second — the last few times. This is Daytona — I’m pumped up right now. It’s so cool. Got to thank Kyle (Busch) obviously, for pushing me. It’s nice to be on the other side of the fence. Usually, I’m the ‘pusher’ and finish second every time. So, to be on the other side here and get the win — man, this is great. This is just cool. I was really pumped up. Man, appreciate all the guys at the shop. It was a good race there at the end. Coming down there at the end there, watching the mirror, I was like, ‘Man, I’ve never been in this position before. Usually, I’m the guy second.’ And, was watching Kyle in the mirror. And, saw him go high — had to block him high. I know he was really looking out for the other two car group coming up behind us there. Man, it just feels good here.”

Did you see what happened behind you at the finish?

“I saw parts of it. I know I saw Kyle (Busch) go high and I went to block high and he caught me in the right rear and we started catching it up towards the fence. But, it was just enough to get by on the start-finish line there. I don’t know if Kyle even hit the wall there or not. I hope it didn’t. If not, we have two good cars that aren’t tore up. Pretty pumped up.”

Can you describe what happened behind you at the finish (watching replay of finish)?

“It was a big junk behind us there. I didn’t realize it was that much wreck there. But, I caught the end of that replay there. I was listening to Kyle’s (Busch) spotter and I could here him coming — you know six back, three back, two back. And, I could hear him coming. Both the spotters did good — Mark Robertson (Logano) and Eddie D’Hondt (Busch) — did a great job working with us together. It took us awhile to find each other throughout the race. We were both on two different strategies and both trying to figure out some different things. Once we find each other it’s like this every time. We’ve been up towards the front with me and Kyle fighting each other. Hopefully, we can do the same thing tomorrow.”

What does it feel like to finally win at a superspeedway after finishing second so many times?

“It’s good to be on this side of it. They told me a stat here earlier this week and it said the last eight superspeedway races I finished second four times out of the eight. It’s nice to be on the other side of it and be in victory lane here. We’ve got Sport Clips on the car this week and it’s huge for them and huge for us and the 20 team. We needed it right now. Personally, I needed it a lot. This will really help me a lot. I want to thank GameStop. They are on our car a lot. Coca-Cola, Toyota and all of those guys for really helping us out. It’s a really big deal. It feels good. This is Daytona. This is awesome.”

How wild was the racing tonight?

“It was really wild, especially in the beginning of the race for no reason. Me and Kyle (Busch) really took a while to find each other again out there. I pushed some different cars here and there to try to find something. I knew once we found Kyle we could go, just like we have in the other superspeedway races this year. Once we find each other we go like hell. We really took our time and once we got each other we were on each other’s radio and got a system there. We did everything right and teammates is the name of the game at superspeedway races.”

Can you put into words what winning at Daytona means?

“I always said if you win a bicycle race here at Daytona it’s the coolest thing in the world, so you can image on how I feel right now. It would be really cool if it was one level up tomorrow, but right now man, I’m on such a high. This has to be up there as one of my coolest wins, if not the coolest. Daytona to me is the coolest place we go to.”

Do you think that things are headed in the right direction for you?

“For sure. Like I said earlier, last year when I’ve got a win and got some momentum on our side it really makes a difference. Hopefully this is doing the same thing. Like you said, I really needed it. I’ve been digging as hard as I possibly can. I’ve been confused. I don’t know what to do different, but the big thing is just having some momentum on your side and you’ll be amazed at what it can do. This is definitely a huge win for me for a lot of reasons. I’m pretty pumped up. Both spotters did a really good job today. It’s really hard when you get both cars out there and you’re trying to switch over radios and trying to get a program together on who is going to spot who and my spotter and Kyle’s spotter did a very good job. Not talking over each other and talking when they needed to and doing everything just right and it really paid off.”

ADAM STEVENS, crew chief, No. 20 Sport Clips Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What did you have to do to the race car tonight to get in victory lane?

“Really, it all goes back to qualifying. We broke a seal on the clutch on pit road. Just a freak thing — it just wore out. We were getting ready to roll out for qualifying and there was clutch fluid all under the car and we couldn’t get it in gear. We skipped a few races this year, so we’ re a go-or-go-home car and we have to qualify on time. We had to push him (Joey Logano), get him going and have him jam it in gear. And, we had one opportunity to do it. If we didn’t do it and we pushed him past the end of pit road we couldn’t touch the car or we would’ve failed our qualifying attempt and we wouldn’t have made the race. Once we got through that adversity we had to change the clutch, which is no big deal.

We had to go to the back for unapproved adjustment. With the cars back there we just couldn’t get with a car that could get us to the front and every time we started making some ground the caution would come out. Then we spun and had to bounce back from that, and then we had a loose wheel and had to bounce back from that. Then we were shy on fuel, but everybody was. It was just one of those days. These races, especially with the two-car draft, nobody knows what they have until just a few laps to go. And the trick is to have something to race with and to have a look at the front with a couple laps to go. That’s all driver and spotter at that point. If they can put you in that position then you have a chance to win.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 4th

What was it like to push your teammate Joey Logano to the win tonight?

“It was good. We worked together as teammates for a reason and that’s one of the reasons there. Joey (Logano) had an up and down day there for sure, and he came back and we got teamed up there and then we were just able to work with each other the rest of the race — probably about the last 35 laps or so. It was going to come down to the end there and once we got the lead I was like, ‘Alright, make sure we bring home a JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) win here.’ And then when those guys had a head of steam behind me I just tried to block them for Joey to try and make sure Joey won this thing. It was a good race and I’m glad to see a Toyota in victory lane. Glad to see Joey there. He helped us in Talladega so glad we could help him here.”

How was your race tonight?

“I was trying to help to make sure Joey (Logano) was going to win this thing and we got the lead there through (turn) one and two and I’m like, ‘Alright, man, this is his race so it’s going to be good.’ I knew those guys were going to have a run coming down off of turn four and I told Joey to keep it straight and just win this thing — meaning I’m going to block for him and try to get through those guys way. I didn’t care if I was going to wreck just as long as he was going to win so that’s cool.”

How was the racing tonight?

“A couple of people think they know what they’re doing, but not really. It gets a little loud and hairy sometimes, but that’s just a part of it. It was fun out there and I’m glad we came home like that. It should’ve been a one-two (finish), but those guys had such a head of steam that I just did all I could to make sure that the 20 car (Joey Logano) won. That’s all I was worried about.”

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot / Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 6th

Are you happy with your finish?

“I would’ve been a little bit happy if we were in victory lane. That’s definitely the closest I’ve been in my Nationwide career to actually see it and know that you’re in the right place. We did everything right and then Steve (Wallace) blew up off of (turn) two and I lost my pusher and I was just trying to tag on to one of the other groups that was flying by us. Speed is such a difference.

It’s not like you just pull inline, but we came across with another top-10 and just outside the top-five. That’s two in a row for us and three I think within the month, so we’re really happy with the way we’ve got momentum going. We knew if we could get through Road America with a good finish — we were hoping for a top-15 and to come out here and finish the race and we got two top-10s. So, we’re way ahead of schedule for where we wanted to be so far. I’m just real happy with the way the team has turned around.”

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 G-Oil Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

Finishing Position: 7th

Are you happy with your finish?

“It looks like I was the third best Toyota. I’m thrilled to death with a seventh-place finish. It was a great race. It’s just a crapshoot there at the end. My car was really strong. I was hooked up with Brian Scott pretty much half of the race. It was just all we had. It’s a deal where I’m real happy with my team, but I just don’t have a teammate. I’m the odd man out. I’m happy we got what we got and seventh was a good finish.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 11th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 12th

KEVIN CONWAY, No. 87 Extenze Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 25th

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 97 Extenze Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Michigan International Speedway — June 18, 2011

- Camry driver Kyle Busch (third) was the highest finishing Toyota in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS)
race at Michigan International Speedway.

- Joey Logano (sixth) also earned a top-10 finish for Toyota in the 250-mile event at the two-mile oval.
Steve Wallace (14th), Brian Scott (17th), David Reutimann (18th), Michael Annett (19th), Kenny Wallace (20th) and
Joe Nemechek (21st) were also in the field.

- Five Camry drivers are currently in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings following 12 of 35 races in the
2011 season — K. Wallace (seventh), S. Wallace (eighth), Scott (ninth), Annett (10th) and Joe Nemechek (20th).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Pizza Ranch Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 3rd

How was your race today?

“It was great racing there at the end with Paul (Menard). That was fun. We had a good time and put on a good show
hopefully. We were back and forth a little bit there — him on the bottom and me on the top. He got away from me and I
finally found something. You can change your line six inches up in the top lane and it’s all the difference. I found
something about six inches different, ran him back down and wasn’t sure if I could get back by him or not but we did right
there coming to the checkered.

It was fun, but the guys on this Pizza Ranch Camry they did a good job today — this
weekend and this year. They’ve really been trying to get our cars faster, getting more grip out of these things, building
more speed down the straightaways. We’re behind a little bit in everything, but a third-place run like that — the top two
dogs, they were gone. There wasn’t catching them. We came off with a good, solid run today and hoping that these guys can carry on that momentum next week into the road course.”

Did you have fun racing with Mark Martin and Paul Menard today?

“It was a good day for us for what we had. The Pizza Ranch Camry was decent, just not quite good enough to run with the top two guys there and fortunately we snuck out of third. We probably should’ve finished fourth, but we got a third there at the end with Paul (Menard). Early in the day, we were racing with Mark (Martin) and there at the end too with that final restart pushing him along, trying to get him out and see if we couldn’t get in front of Carl (Edwards) and single out and I could go after him and try to lead a lap.

But, didn’t quite get the opportunity for that. The Roush Ford was just too fast. Good job by those guys and Ricky (Stenhouse) here did a good job. I would’ve rather see you (Ricky Stenhouse) win. No offense to Carl (Edwards), but it’s good to see the young guys getting the opportunities to win some races. We’ll take our third and move on in a couple of weeks.”

Can you apply what you learned in today’s race to tomorrow’s NSCS race?

“Yeah, certainly you can. It’s definitely something that you can work towards at being able to change your line just a little bit each and every lap. Cup cars drive so much differently though, so I was trying to get used to the top and how you run around there today — kind of like California. That’s what helped me out there. I’d like to be able to take what I learned today and apply it for tomorrow and hopefully we can have a good solid day then too.”

Are you getting frustrated that you haven’t surpassed Mark Martin’s wins record?

“I made up a lot of ground awfully fast so you can look at it two ways. We certainly won a lot of races in three years so
maybe I shouldn’t be in this position so fast, but yet it is a little frustrating that we’re not able to get another win to tie and then another win to break. We’ve been close — seems like every week we’re a solid third, fourth, fifth-place car. It’s just trying to beat these other two guys that every week are the class of the field — the 60 (Carl Edwards) and the 6 (Ricky Stenhouse). It’s frustrating, yeah, because you lose to the same guys every week, but one of these days we should have our opportunity and hoping it’s sooner rather than later.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 6th

How was your race today?

“Our guys did a really good job I think. The pit crew was spectacular all day. They made good adjustments on our car to
make it better throughout the race. I thought we may have had something — those Fords are really fast. We were close there on that last restart and started on the bottom and it’s just one guy gets underneath you and one is on the outside. When two cars are door to door that third car is such a run and that’s what happened. I got shuffled back and shuffled back and never had any momentum. I went all the way back to 11th or 12th and I had to pass them back to get back to where we were. I had a good race with Mark (Martin) and Elliott (Sadler) there at the end. That was a lot of fun. I was coming along and saying ‘Did I get them? Did I get them?’ It was a lot of fun and a good job by the GameStop guys today. We just need to find some more speed in our car somewhere. Not sure where it’s at, but we need to find some more.”

How was your qualifying lap? “I just had a great Aaron’s Dream Machine and the difference is that the guys are just doing an incredible job in the shop and my guys here this weekend have done a great job. I missed it by a little bit and know where we missed it at — just unfortunately can’t get it back. Missed it by a little bit, but we’ve still got a great Aaron’s Dream Machine and I’m proud of my guys.”

What kept you from getting the pole? “It wiggled in the middle down there and that’s where we lost our time I think. I’m proud of my guys at Michael Waltrip Racing, Toyota and Toyota Racing Development. We have really good horsepower under the hood this weekend and my guys did a good job. I just let it wiggle and it cost us just enough.”

Are you happy with your race car for Sunday’s race? “Yeah, we feel like we’re pretty good and we fought a couple different things during practice. We ended up having a good Aaron’s Dream Machine at the end of practice when it counts. Really, really happy with the motor this week. The guys at Toyota Racing Development have done a great job. I’ve complained about motors the better part of the year and they’ve brought a really good piece here so I’m excited to race.”

What are your thoughts about tomorrow’s race? “I feel like we’re okay. I feel like we didn’t unload as well as we needed to, but the guys really did a good job of getting it closer and the car had a poll in it and the driver didn’t. I unfortunately screwed it up a little bit. Nothing would’ve made me happier than to knock him (Kurt Busch) off the pole, but we’re second so we’ll have to deal with that.”

How hard is to get three straight poles on tracks that aren’t similar? “Some guys are really good qualifiers and obviously they’re on to something. You’re right, it’s some pretty different race tracks that he’s (Kurt Busch) has been able to get on the pole at. I don’t know — he just has got it figured out right now I guess. It can go either way. Some guys get on a string and just qualify like crazy and looks like it’s his turn.”

Where did you lose the time that you needed to earn the pole? “About three-quarters of the way through the corner. I put too much wheel to it and let it get loose and bobbled it. I don’t know why I did that. I should’ve wound the wheel through there, right? That’s what’s common. I felt like I cost us and you feel like you cost yourself a poll especially when it’s that close. I’m disappointed — I mean I’m happy that we qualified, but we should’ve been better than that. We should’ve had enough there. And, there’s sometimes when you go out there and you leave it all on the race track and when you come in you’re like, ‘I don’t know what I could’ve done different to go any faster.’ This is just not one of those times, unfortunately.”

BRIAN VICKERS, No. 83 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team Starting Position: 4th

How was your qualifying lap? “Thank goodness the sun’s out. I don’t really see any clouds coming, which would definitely change things. The guys on the Red Bull crew did a good job. We tried a bunch of stuff yesterday — some worked, some didn’t — but we settled on a good package. Felt really good about one and two — incredible one and two. Felt good about three and four, just got a little tight off so I didn’t get all the throttle out of it I wanted, but still a good lap.”

Does the track feel the same to you after missing the races at Michigan last year? “Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been here — it’s been a year. I miss this place. I love Michigan. A beautiful state, especially in the summer — a little cold for me in the winter. It is a gorgeous place and this track is amazing. It’s a lot of fun. I really enjoy coming here. The Red Bull guys did a great job. We tried a lot of different stuff yesterday in practice and some worked and some didn’t but so far so good. Turn one and two was phenomenal, turn three and four was really good as well. I think I got most of it. I got a little tight off of (turn) four.”

KASEY KAHNE, No. 4 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team Starting Position: 8th

Are you happy with your race car this weekend? “Yeah, it felt pretty good. We were a little bit loose, but the car went around the track really nice. Just a little bit too loose in the back to go much faster. It was still a pretty good lap for us. Hopefully somewhere close to a top-10 or so.”

Will Kenny Francis be able to make it to the race tomorrow? “It’s a tough spot that he’s in and he’s with his family and things like that. They’ll do whatever is best there. It’s a family deal at this point. If he doesn’t come he’s got this whole group knows exactly how Kenny (Francis, crew chief) does things and we’ll do our best to make him happy. If he comes he comes. I know Red Bull has basically got everything ready for him to come if he wants to and if it works out for him, but it’s totally up to him. It’s up to how his situation is. Racing doesn’t mean a whole lot right now.”

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Office Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 10th

How was your qualifying lap? “It was good. We’re going to end up better than 29th or wherever we were actually going to go if it rained out so that part is an improvement. Our car had decent speed. It just hurts so bad the later you go in qualifying here so it’s a double-edged sword. You want a fast car, but if you do you’ve got to go towards the end. We made improvements on it. Our car was a little bit loose off of (turn) four, but for the most part I felt like our race runs were just a hair off and so we feel like we can fix that overnight.”

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing Starting Position: 11th

How was your qualifying run? “It was okay. Our NAPA Toyota was pretty good yesterday. We didn’t have a lot of speed in it though. We were good on the longer runs and good in race rim, but our qualifying run and our fast laps in practice weren’t real good. I think that was a good pickup for us. It was not going to be where we want it to be, but the guys did a good job changing the car and it’s definitely better just still lacking some speed.”

BOBBY LABONTE, No. 47 RainEater/Advance Auto Parts Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty Racing Starting Position: 16th

Are you happy with your qualifying lap? “It was way better than yesterday. We couldn’t get it tightened up enough yesterday to make a lap hardly so we had to go out early which might not have been all that bad. It’s still just a decent lap for us. I think we picked up a little bit in some areas obviously but we still need to work on it. The guys did a good job coming back from yesterday. That was the key for today. Kind of a slow day. This is all we’re going to do today so now we just have time to think about what we’re going to do for the race trim. We had a good practice yesterday for that part of it and we’ve just got to tweak on it obviously, but it was definitely better than our qualifying trim was.”

How was your qualifying lap? “It wasn’t too eventful. It was still a little bit too free. Yesterday we were like a ’10′ free and today we’re only like a ‘four’ free so it was better but for whatever reason with our package that we have this weekend we’re still too loose. A way better lap than we had yesterday so we got that out of the way. Our race trim seemed like we had a little bit different spring package and it was better and all of that stuff. All in all, it was a good lap for us.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Snickers Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 24th

How was your qualifying lap? “Our Snickers Camry was just a bit free. I knew that we might not have the best qualifying lap, but I feel pretty good about our car in race trim after practice yesterday. This is a place that’s wide and you can pass so we’ll try to work out way to the front. Our car seemed to be pretty good on long runs and this place usually has long green flag runs. I’m hoping that will help us tomorrow.”

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 NEMCO Motorsports Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports Starting Position: 29th

How was your qualifying lap? “I tell you what, unless you run right by the wall it’s pretty brutal. It definitely adds some character to the track. What’s tough about it is you’re compressing the front end, but the back end isn’t compressed and it just really wears the splitter bad. But I just got to thank my whole crew — we work really hard. Trying to get some good stuff going for us, but just happy to be here and happy to have a good run finally.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 Home Depot Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing Starting Position: 30th

MICHAEL MCDOWELL, No. 66 HP Racing LLC Toyota Camry, PRISM Motorsports Starting Position: 38th

CASEY MEARS, No. 13 GEICO Toyota Camry, Germain Racing Starting Position: 39th

MIKE SKINNER, No. 60 Big Red Toyota Camry, Germain Racing Starting Position: DNQ

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Dover International Speedway –May 14, 2011

- Camry driver Kyle Busch (second) was the highest finishing Toyota in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series
(NNS) race at Dover International Speedway.

- David Reutimann (fifth) and Kenny Wallace (seventh) also earned top-10 finishes for Toyota.

- Camry driver Joey Logano, who was running second, was involved in an accident on the final restart that ended the
race and he finished 13th.

- Camry drivers Steve Wallace (16th), Ryan Truex (18th), Joe Nemechek (19th), Michael Annett (20th) and Brian
Scott (30th) were also in the field.

- Six Camry drivers are currently in the top-20 in the unofficial NNS point standings following 11 of 35 races in the
2011 season — K. Wallace (seventh), Scott (eighth), S. Wallace (ninth), Nemechek (12th), Annett (13th) and Truex
(17th).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 MAC Tools Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

Did you see the accident on the final restart?

“I didn’t really want that kind of view. It’s going to take an awful lot of MAC Tools and Stanley Tools to beat the front
end out of this thing. Luckily, we just cut it off and start over. It was a long day for us. We didn’t quite have the car we needed today, unfortunately this weekend. We kept working on it, trying to make it the best we could. The nose damage we had from earlier in the race coming to pit road just killed it. The guys did a good job and we just salvaged along and somehow we ended up second.

We didn’t deserve to be second here, that’s for sure. Sometimes they get to you. I saw Joey (Logano) get out — I’m glad to see Joey is alright. I don’t know about Clint (Bowyer), but I hope he’s good, too. That was a wicked hit that Joey took in the turn four wall and then him getting climbed over. It’s good that the front bumpers and the front tires on these cars didn’t come through and hit Joey’s head — the seat or something like that — it could have been really bad. I’m just glad everyone is alright. We salvaged the day with our MAC Tools Camry. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our best, but maybe we can get the m in Charlotte.”

How wild was the race finish?

“It was definitely a wild one there at the end. We had a struggling day to begin with our MAC Tools Camry. We just
didn’t quite have the handle like we were looking for. Joey (Logano) seemed pretty good. There at the end, coming off
the corner, I don’t know if someone got into him or what, that’s kind of what it looked like. Joey took an awful hard hit
coming out of turn four on that wall. Then Clint (Bowyer) climbed over him. Luckily Clint’s bumper, tire or shrapnel
didn’t get into his head or something like that and cause some serious damage to him. It was a rough day.”

How much did the track change during the race?

“I think the biggest change we had was just knocking the nose in coming to pit road — that seemed to kill the handling of
our car. We did the best we could trying to get it loosened up and trying to get it where we could run with those guys and get some speed out of it, but we just did not. We didn’t get anywhere today. I hate it, but we came out with a second somehow — I don’t know how that ended up. We’ll take it and we’ll move on into our next race with our Z-Line Designs Camry in Charlotte.”

Did you think the late cautions helped you close in on the leaders?

“During the race there, throughout the beginning and the middle stages before we got our damage, we were probably a
third or fourth-place car. It was going to be hard to get a third. A good fourth-place car. When I got that damage, it put us back to about a seventh or eighth-place car, but we kept working on it and trying to see if we couldn’t get our track position back somehow. There with the late caution, it definitely helped us. We were going to finish sixth. I think that’s where we were in line. With those late cautions and with the wrecking going on, it brought us up to second-place — so we got a second out of the deal somehow. On those kinds of days, I guess you take them. It’s pretty cool to get a finish like that even though we didn’t’ deserve it.”

DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 64 5-Hour Energy Extra Strength Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 G-Oil Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

Finishing Position: 7th

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 13th

What happened at the end of the race?

“It just seemed like I either got tagged or I think just Carl (Edwards) coming up took the air off me enough to make me loose. I just think (watching a replay of the accident) — see I think he’s coming up the track. Those shark fins they got them — you get a car underneath you right about that point you feel the car starting to get loose. It’s unfortunate man. I felt like we had something to win this thing with the GameStop car. We had a good day, for sure. Just trying to get that little bit there at the end. Wish we didn’t tear up as many cars as we did.”

How are you feeling?

“I’m fine.”

Can you explain what you experienced at the end of the race?

“It just looks like Carl (Edwards) was underneath me and he was starting to chase it up the race track. And, it just looked like he was in that spot — that vulnerable spot — right where it seems like it takes the air off your car a little bit and pushes you around. It’s not his fault. It’s just part of us racing really hard hear at the end. I didn’t get spun out. It’s just part of it. It’s just the way these cars are when you get someone underneath you like that it pushes you around.”

Did you see what happened to Clint Bowyer?

“All I saw was the underside of him. I saw the underneath of it and I was like, ‘Holy cow.’ It seemed like I got loose and I
tried to catch it and overcorrected it into the fence. I come off the fence and the 33 (Clint Bowyer) ramped off my left rear, I think. He went for a heck of a ride. I’m glad to see Clint’s (Bowyer) okay.”

Did Carl Edwards say anything to you following the race?

“He just apologized. I don’t think he knew if he hit me or not either. I’m still not sure if he touched me or not. It was just
tough racing.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 16th

RYAN TRUEX, No. 99 Toyota Camry, Pastrana-Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 18th

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 19th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot / Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 20th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 30th

What happened on the race track to end your race?

“Got a little free on the restart and it got out from under me, I tried to save it without getting into the car on the outside of me and I just lost it. The worst deal is for everybody on the No. 11 team and everybody at Joe Gibbs Racing. We’ve had a rough year so far and we were looking to rebound here. A lot of the problems and bad luck we’ve had have not been our fault and now this was a driver’s self-induced problem that looks like it ruined our day and tore up a race car. I have to apologize to my guys and everybody at Joe Gibbs Racing.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Nashville Superspeedway — April 23, 2011

- Kyle Busch (second) was the highest-finishing Toyota driver in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Nationwide Series
(NNS) race at Nashville Superspeedway.

- Camry driver Joey Logano earned a fourth-place result in the 300-mile race at the 1.33-mile Tennessee race track.
Logano, who started from the pole, led five times for 30 laps and Busch led three times for 39 laps in the 225 lap race.
Other Camry drivers in the 43 car field included Kenny Wallace (12th), David Reutimann (14th), Ryan Truex (16th),
Steve Wallace (17th), Michael Annett (19th), Brian Scott (22nd) and Kevin Conway (24th).

- Four Toyota drivers are currently in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS points after eight of 35 races — Scott (eighth), K.
Wallace (ninth), Annett (10th) and S. Wallace (11th).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

What did you need to catch Carl Edwards at the end of the race?

“It was just a little bit of everything. We just missed a little bit of chassis, a little under the hood and a little aero probably, too. The guys have done a really nice job with this car and have gotten us to where we’ll be competitive each and every week. We’ve won a few and today we just weren’t the best car — the 60 (Carl Edwards) was definitely the best car. Congratulations to Carl. This Z-Line Designs Camry was good today, just not the best — we were pretty good.”

How was your race?

“It was a good day. The Z-Line Designs Camry was a second-best car. We knew that yesterday through practice. We saw it on the track. We worked our guts out to try to make some changes to it and the guys did a great job, they just didn’t quite have enough today. We saw that all throughout the race. I got out there and led a little bit, but knew I was only biding my time out there. We had some fun, but all in all, if you look back on the season so far, it’s been pretty good for us. Every time we’ve had a good run, we’ve been able to be in the top-three. Sometimes you have a bad run and you end up with a blown engine or a loose wheel or get spun out at Talladega. Today was a good day.”

How was the battle with Carl Edwards at the end of the race?

“It was a good race for us today. The Z-Line Designs Camry was fast, just not quite fast enough. We just kind of lacked a little bit in every area and could only muster a second-place today. We felt pretty good about where we were and how we ran. We could keep up with Carl (Edwards), but it seems like the old car to the new car — we’ve kind of flip-flopped a little bit. It seems like the 60 (Carl Edwards) is the car to beat every single week but all the Roush cars are pretty quick. We just need a little bit more with our Camrys and once we get that, we’ll be a force to be reckoned with once again.”

Did you think you had enough to challenge Carl Edwards for the win?

“We put on a little bit of a race there. Brad (Keselowski) was right behind us and kind of lurking in the distance there. It
was kind of cool to do that. Carl (Edwards) got a run on me, got to the bottom. I could keep the top lane momentum going a little bit, but I knew I couldn’t do it between turns three and four — I was just too tight down there. So, I let Carl go and him having the wrong trajectory into the corner, he kind of slipped up the track and I came back to his bottom — just a little crossover. I didn’t quite finish that pass.

He had a really fast car and we could keep up with him momentarily, just not for the whole run that we needed to. It was a good show right there. It was a little bit or racing back and forth. It was cool to see that there was a second lane here. I thought Goodyear brought a really good tire for us that laid rubber right out of the gate — the first laps on the race track. We could move it and spread the lane out a little bit. I felt like it was pretty good racing there. Spent most of my time on the high side in turns one and two.”

Does the wind affect you during a race like today?

“I think the biggest thing is blowing us into turn three a little bit. It kind of makes it a little more difficult to hit the bottom. Other than that, we’ve seen some really high winds at Texas at a place we go 190, close to 200 mph. That makes it a lot more interesting than here at Nashville.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 Harvest Investments Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 4th

How was your race?

“We were fourth, I felt like we were a third-place car — it just took us a while to get there. We just fought a lot of different things today. We gave my Cup guys a weekend off — they deserve it and they’re really good and we tried to put something together and we just tried to do different pit strategy to keep me out of the pits. We restarted the last restart eighth after we finally took four tires. I just felt like we were a third-place car and we needed a few more laps to run down the 22 (Brad Keselowski). Either way it’s a good weekend. We didn’t even plan on being here so the Harvest Investments was on the car. They let us race — it was still fun, just needed a little bit more speed to catch up with the 60 (Carl Edwards) and the 18 (Kyle Busch).”

How was your team able to pull out a top-five finish at Nashville?

“We were kind of nervous on what was going to happen with our Harvest Investments Camry. We started up front and
then on our first stop we lost a lot of time on pit road. We gave my normal guys a weekend off, my Cup guys do my
Nationwide stuff too. They took the weekend off so we just gave up a little bit too much time and we tried to do whatever we could do to stay out of the pits. One time we took no tires, just fuel only. I was able to hang in third, which was pretty cool. I just feel like we were a third-place car but we were a decent third-place car. The 60 (Carl Edwards) and 18 (Kyle Busch) were just so far out there. We finished fourth — it’s okay. The cool part is we didn’t even plan on being out here and we got a sponsor at the last minute. I think we’re still leading the owner’s points, so that’s pretty cool. We’ll see what happens from here.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Talladega Superspeedway –April 16, 2011

- Camry driver Kyle Busch won Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Alabama’s Talladega
Superspeedway.

- The victory was his fourth of the 2011 season, his 36th driving a Toyota, and his 47th career NNS win.

- Busch led a total of four laps en route to his first career NNS win at the 2.66-mile superspeedway.

- Busch is now two victories away from tying Mark Martin’s NNS record of 49 career wins.

- Camry drivers Joey Logano (second) and Joe Nemechek (third) also earned top-five finishes in the race.

- Brian Scott (11th), Michael Annett (19th), Kenny Wallace (25th), Steve Wallace (32nd) and Michael Waltrip (33rd)
were also in the 124-lap race.

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 1st

How did you win this race?

“I don’t know — look at the thing. I got hit like three times on the left side. I thought it was killed — I said it was killed.
These guys did a great job putting it back together with great leadership from Jason Ratcliff (crew chief). This Z-Line
Designs Camry doesn’t look the best, but it was certainly the best right there at the end, especially with the guy that was
pushing me — Joey (Logano) was a great teammate today. Can’t thank everybody from the whole JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing)
organization — the guys from GameStop, thank those guys. They deserve to win just as much as we do right here. This is a team win and it’s cool to get it here. Finally I won a Nationwide race here so now I completed the sweep at Talladega. NOS Energy Drink, Toyota — this Camry was pretty fast today in the draft and getting pushed with another Camry so it worked good there. Gillette, Nationwide Insurance, Marquis Jets — thank the fans — it’s cool to run the Nationwide Series and I love doing it and love winning too.”

How was your race car overall?

“We had a steady race car — the car was really good, it was just a matter of being in the right place at the right time and
getting the right push when it mattered most. Fortunately, we got it there with Joey (Logano). Getting hooked up with him, we were kind of working with some other people throughout the day just to see what we could figure out and what we could learn.

When it came down towards the end right there, it was really good for us to get teamed up and for us to try to keep getting in each other’s lane so we could get the push draft going as soon as we could after the restarts. This Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry was awesome today. I just can’t thank these guys at JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) enough. We had the wreck on the backstretch and I thought we were done. I said, ‘The only reason I’m going to stop is because you guys are before the garage area is.’ I stopped and these guys said we could fix it. They detailed it up for me and gave it a spit shine and threw some duct tape on it and let her eat. Fortunately it was still fast enough to where we could run up front like that.”

How much strategy is involved in a race like this?

“Not much. You’re pretty much — you’re playing your tire strategy off of how your car is driving. You’re playing your fuel
strategy off whether you can make it to the end or not or how far you are in a run. If you can go 10 or 20 laps or even 30 laps on a fuel run. Every time we came down, we pretty much took fuel only. There was a couple times that we took tires just because we knew that we were in a position to get tires and if we got them then we wouldn’t have to get them the next time. It got a little slick there at the end, that long 20 lap run of pushing each other like that.

I was getting a little sideways down the straight away and stuff, but we held it straight. Somehow we made it through some of the holes that were out there — it wasn’t much of a gap, but I shot it and it was either going to work or it wasn’t going to work and we’re going to wad some stuff up. My car was already torn up and I’m sure the rest of these guys don’t want to see it going by them, but we made it happen. Again, these guys did a great job working on it and getting it ready and preparing a good race car there about two-thirds of the way through.”

Are you thinking about the NNS race win record?

“All in all, the Mark Martin record — it’s two away, it’s three away from being in my own number. When and where that
happens, we’re not going to pick a date. It’s too hard to do that. We have Darlington coming up, we’ve got Dover, and
we’re not going to Richmond — Nashville next week. There’s definitely some good opportunity here to win three more races before June or right into June. If everything goes right then maybe we could do that. If it comes through this year, great. If not, then we’ll just wait and try to do it next year.”

How are the two team cars able to stick together so well?

“In a perfect world, you would have a team car with one built for the front and one built for the back. In a perfect world you would do that. I don’t know that you could ever really stay hooked up or do that. We were thinking that if Joey (Logano) can push me all day then I might as well tape the nose up and run a little warmer so we can get better slip-stream, but anytime I would have to get in the back we would be screwed for that.”

Was there a hole between Joe Nemechek and Mike Wallace at the end of the race?

“I don’t know — I saw daylight and I said that if I can see daylight then I’m shooting for it. If I would have steered to the top to go around, Joey (Logano) would have off-centered on me and probably would have spun me out. I knew this was it — the only opportunity I had here. If I get in and start bouncing off these guys, we’re all going to wreck. Fortunately, that didn’t happen because I know those guys probably would have gotten really, really mad at me. Somehow we made it through there and I didn’t think it was wide enough for a car to fit through, but I certainly made it wide enough for a car to fit through.

Trevor Bayne came over to me and he asked, ‘Was it wide enough for you to fit through?’ I said, ‘I don’t think so.’ He says, ‘Well, how the heck did you get through there?’ I just closed my eyes and held my foot to the floor and prayed for the best.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Were you surprised you won this race?

“It’s crazy — out of all the race tracks you go to, this place and Daytona — you spend so much time getting the bodies right, straight and you look at that thing and you can’t believe it can even run minimal speed. Great job by the guys on pit road. Came in there, three corners were knocked off of it, the crush panels were falling out of it — it was a mess. They did a great job of orchestrating the repairs to keep from losing a lap. Like Kyle (Busch) said, you have to have a teammate and thankfully Joey (Logano) was committed there at the end to stand behind us and push us. He felt comfortable there and that’s the only way we were going to win it.

Thanks to those guys and the 20 team for their hard work. If they didn’t have a fast race car then we wouldn’t have won it either. It was a total team effort. It’s the ugliest race car we’ve ever had in victory lane. To think you could do it at a restrictor plate race — maybe it’s a new car thing. Maybe we need to come down pit road next time on the first stop and knock all the fenders off of it and be done with it. Fun day.”

Does the two-car draft eliminate the need for aerodynamics?

“The aerodynamic part of it, I think there are parts of the car that if they get damaged you would suffer tremendously as far as the nose — if you get a hole in the nose then it’s going to slow the lead car down. We were fortunate that the back bumper — it tore the side up, it tore the left-rear quarter panel up, but the back bumper was in good shape. If it wouldn’t have been in good shape then Joey (Logano) wouldn’t have been able to push us. you have to have the back bumper in good shape and I think as long as the windshield forward is in decent shape, these things run and get hooked up to run pretty good together.

More so than the old car did. These cars are resilient. We’ve seen that. These guys hit the wall and knock them all to pieces and they keep running. I heard the 01 (Mike Wallace) flipped over, landed on his wheels and kept rolling. They’re crazy. I would say that because the two cars get together, you can have one that’s really damaged and you can continue to run up front like we did.”

What does it mean to be getting close to Mark Martin’s win record?

“To think you could even reach Mark Martin’s record and to be a part of that and nobody more deserving of that than Kyle
(Busch). He’s worked really hard for it and for us to be a part of that as his team is going to be fun. It’s going to happen — when is it going to happen and where is it going to happen, who knows. We’re just going to keep winning races like we’ve been doing and enjoying that.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

How was your car in today’s race?

“Our car was okay — we were second. I wish we could have got the checkered flag and maybe could have done something with Kyle (Busch) there. I was committed to pushing him and we were going to get all the way to the front one way or the other and then battle it out to the checkered flag. But the caution came out there at the end and all I know is I saw a car go upside down in my mirror. The GameStop car was good.

The guys did a good job. It looks like we were at Martinsville more than Talladega. We were beating the heck out of these poor cars. I got hit in the door, the A-post is falling apart, the bumper is falling off every car — it’s crazy out there, but we got a good finish out of it. Just I would rather be in victory lane. I think this is probably the third or fourth time I’ve pushed people to the win. I just need to be on the other side some day.”

JOE NEMECHEK, No. 87 NEMCO Motorsports Toyota Camry, NEMCO Motorsports

Finishing Position: 3rd

How was your race today?

“It was a great afternoon. How about that for a small team. We’re struggling trying to find sponsorship. I have to thank
Kevin Conway and all the Extenze brands for coming on board. This was a one-race deal with us. Have to thank
Nationwide Insurance. It was a cool race. We got a lap down early because I couldn’t find a drafting partner. Then got a
partner with Mike Wallace and we were fast.

We got up there and pushed him to the lead and I just wish it would have
finished under green because we had a run coming back on the inside. Brad Keselowski gave me a heck of a push there and we just missed it. It’s great to finally have a great run.”

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 11th

What did you think of today’s race?

“This two-car drafting is crazy. We worked at it all day and worked on the Shore Lodge Toyota all today. It was really
unstable at the start of the race when I was being pushed. I know I made a lot of friends today because I could push so well, but they just weren’t around at the end. I got caught up in a few things, but the guys killed it on pit road and fixed the car up.

They did a great job all day. I know they are working on the finishing order now, so we may get a top-10 out of this who
knows. I know I don’t have the same experience as a lot of the guys out here, but I learned a lot today from veteran guys like Kyle (Busch) and Michael (Waltrip). It was really helpful and should be information that will make me that much better when we go to Daytona in a few months. Now we will take this car back to the shop to get it ready for Daytona and keep moving forward.”

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 62 Pilot Travel Centers / Flying J Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 19th

KENNY WALLACE, No. 09 Family Farmers Toyota Camry, RAB Racing with Brack Maggard

Finishing Position: 25th

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 32nd

What happened that took you out of the race?

“I don’t really know what happened. I came off of turn two — me and Michael Annett did and the whole field crashed in
front of me. It’s just another product of this two-car, stupid-style racing. It’s not fun as a driver and really don’t know if
the fans like it. Just really hate it for 5-Hour Energy. Under a lot of pressure to get this season going strong and it’s just
been nothing but bad stuff this year. We need to get that monkey off our back. We’ve got fast race cars. We just have to go to Nashville next week and hopefully have a strong run there.”

MICHAEL WALTRIP, No. 99 Aaron’s Toyota Camry, Pastrana-Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 33rd

What caused you to wreck?

“I don’t know what actually caused me to hit the wall, but what happened was on the restart the 2 of Elliott Sadler decided he would mess around so that the 1 (Jamie McMurray) could get on his bumper – which is ridiculous because there’s too much traffic to do that. Just run a few laps and work it out. But, he didn’t go off on the start like he should’ve and it bunched everybody up. There’s 30 cars pushing forward – you can’t do that. He messed around so he could get the 1 to him and the 1 was just going and I don’t know – they all piled up. It was dumb.”
