Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Dover International Speedway – September 25, 2010

- Kyle Busch made NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) history when he won Saturday’s race at Delaware’s Dover International Speedway by becoming the all-time single-season race winner with 11 total victories.

- Busch led a race-high 192 (of 200) laps en route to his 30th NNS win behind the wheel of a Camry and 41st of his career.

- Busch has earned the most victories in a Toyota with 60 total Toyota wins in 229 starts (15 NSCS wins, 30 NNS wins and 15 NCWTS wins).

- Joey Logano started from the pole and led once for three laps at the one-mile oval, before finishing second to his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammate, Busch.

- Camry drivers Reed Sorenson (fourth), Trevor Bayne (sixth) and Jason Leffler (eighth) also had top-10 finishes at Dover.
Other Toyota drivers in the field included Steve Wallace (12th), Brian Scott (13th), Michael Annett (15th), Brendan Gaughan (16th) and Josh Wise (39th).

- Nine Toyota drivers are in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS driver points following Dover – Busch (third), Bayne (seventh),
Wallace (eighth), Leffler (ninth), Logano (10th), Gaughan (11th), Annett (12th), Sorenson (13th) and Scott (14th).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finished: 1st

How strong was your race car today?

“I can’t say enough about the guys on this team – Joe Gibbs Racing guys do a phenomenal job. NOS Energy Drink, Z-Line
Designs, this Camry was flawless and really, really good. Unfortunately there at the end, I don’t know what happened, I don’t know if we had a wheel loose or what was going on. It started vibrating and shaking real bad. I wasn’t imagining things, it did happen.

That was worrying me quite a bit. I have to thank Gillette and Nationwide Insurance, of course Combo’s, Marquis Jets and all the guys that have made this thing possible. It’s really fun to come out here and love running these cars and winning with Jason Ratcliff and all these boys.”

What does it mean to break the single season win record in the Nationwide Series?

“It’s pretty spectacular to be associated with these guys and have these guys win with me. Leo’s (Thorson, car chief) here, it’s his first time in victory lane. I told him if I ever break 10 wins, you’re coming to victory lane. Sure enough, we did today and it’s cool to get a guy like that who for some reason just doesn’t like to come celebrate and says, ‘That’s what we’re here to do, we’re here to win races and not to celebrate’ Tonight we’re going to celebrate.”

Do you feel this win today will help you possibly win tomorrow’s Sprint Cup race?

“I’m certainly hoping that it pays due tomorrow too with our Interstate Batteries Camry. It was pretty good in practice.
Unfortunately, we’re kind of battling back and forth between tight and loose a little bit. Dave (Rogers, crew chief) and I were really communicating well on talking about things and really trying to strategize what we’re going to do. Learned quite a bit here today with this thing so I’ll take that knowledge and go back to Dave with it and talk to him tonight to see what we can work on to try to make sure that thing gets to victory lane.”

Did you consider pitting at the end of the race for the vibration?

“There was, for a second. I was like, ‘Man, what’s more important, this win right here for number 11 or a Cup championship.’ If it was a left-rear wheel and it would have fell off going into the corner, you would have one wail of a hit. These guys do a great job and they gave me awesome pit stops today so I can’t imagine that’s what it was. It would have been fun to come out here and race Joey (Logano) like that and to put on a good show in front of the fans and have him close in at the end. I know everybody was probably hoping he could have got me, but we stayed there today.”

Where does this record stack up to your other records in the series?

“It’s very cool and very fitting to come out here and beat one of the greats in Sam Ard and be able to put my win up there as number 11 – the most of all-time in a season. We still have more races to go. I’m looking forward to more wins, hopefully. This is the first time that we got one of the guys on our team to victory lane – he’s got superstitions or something. I told him that win number 11 he had to come to victory lane so he’s here today.”

How does this record compare to the sweep at Bristol Motor Speedway?

“It’s all good. You can’t really compare all of them. The first win I ever had in the Cup Series is big. The first win in Nationwide that I ever had is always cool. Every win that you get is always something else that you can just rack up and keep putting up on the shelf and keep adding your name to the record books with. For me, it’s all about going out there and trying to do it week in and week out and next week’s another week.”

Are you ever amazed at all the accomplishments you have at the age of 25?

“Not really. For myself, I like to go out there and come to think I could win every weekend. There’s those weekends that you don’t win and you’re a little disappointed and something didn’t go your way or you made a mistake or things happen on pit road. For where I am and where this team is this year and what we’ve been able to accomplish, I’m very fortunate to be where I’m at and couldn’t be happier for myself, for Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and all the guys at Joe Gibbs Racing that has been a part of this and has made this happen.”

What does it mean to break the record held by Sam Ard?

“It’s very special. Sam (Ard) is a great individual and was a great driver in his time. For myself to come out and be able to compete at that level and get as many wins in a season is hard enough to do. For where Sam Ard was in his day and for where we are today, I feel like a lot has changed in this sport and of course, it’s always challenging to go out there and get a win on a given weekend. For us to win 11 this year is very, very special to me and that’s why I say it should be so special to Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and all these guys on the team because they were all a part of it.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What does this day mean to you?

“This has been one day that we’ve been waiting for. Everybody’s worked extremely hard. There are so many people, I can’t thank them all. It would take me all night. Great group at Joe Gibbs Racing, the 18 team – the road crew, the pit crew, the engine shop, just everybody has a part of this and these 11 wins that we’ve been able to accomplish so far. I know it’s a huge accomplishment for Kyle (Busch). I’m really thankful to be a part of that. Great car today. We worked on it in practice and we felt like, looking back at our notes from last year, we knew what direction we needed to go, where we needed to end practice to be good for the day.

The car took off really good and I think that was our strong suit, that we were really good in the first 20 laps of a run. Once you get the first 20 laps under your belt, then the guys may close in on you, but not enough to get up there and pass you. Great job on pit road, we made some adjustments. We had a scare there on the last stop, after the big caution that threw debris all over the race track, we felt like we needed to pit and make sure that we didn’t have a flat. We had a right-rear tire on the wall and we were fixing to put on the car and all of the sudden we noticed that it had a slow leak in it. We had to regroup really quick and put a set of scuffs on the right side and adjust some air pressures, trying to figure out what that was going to do to the car. It worked out, great day, again great day by Kyle and great accomplishment for all of us.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finished: 2nd

Did it take some time for your car to come around in the race?

“It took us a while, as usual, to take off on the restart. I don’t know why, the last few races we just don’t take off on restarts good.

We give them a big lead and we try to make that up and that makes it impossible. I think everyone saw in the last few laps there, we were coming. We had a shot at it, just a little too late, again. It kind of stinks, but the guys did a good job adjusting the car and I think we were a third-place car most of the race and we got up to second and maybe a first-place car there at the end. Good pit stops that kept us up there when we needed it. We’re second and that stinks, but it’s better than third. We’ll move on with it.”

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finished: 4th

How was your race today?

“It was a pretty smooth day. We had a fast car, we qualified good and ran really good all day — real consistent. We had the same problem all day and the first stop we weren’t able to do what we wanted to do and then after that we got it better and just needed a whole other step. Everybody on the Dollar General team did a great job, the pit crew did great and a nice top-five finish for us. We were just loose all day. We got it better, but we needed another step to what we did. We did everything we could and just needed a longer race.”

How did your race car perform on the long runs in the race?

“I liked my car a lot on long runs. I felt like that first long run, we passed the 22 (Brad Keselowski) and my car felt really good at that point. I was kind of hoping that we would be able to stick with them a little bit better on the get-go and I knew we had a good enough car at the end. We’ll just get a little bit better and come back.”

TREVOR BAYNE, No. 99 Out! Pet Care Toyota Camry, Diamond-Waltrip Racing

Finished: 6th

JASON LEFFLER, No. 38 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finished: 8th

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finished: 12th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 BigSpot.com Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finished: 13th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry, Germain Racing

Finished: 15th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 Snap On Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finished: 16th

JOSH WISE, No. 10 Iron Horse Jeans Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finished: 39th

Series points leader and 2006 champ Todd Bodine will continue his march toward the 2010 title in the No. 30 Valvoline Tundra when the field takes the green flag at 9:30 p.m.

Heading into race No. 20 of the 25-race NCWTS schedule, Bodine has a 257-point advantage over Aric Almirola. Last week at Loudon, N.H., Bodine managed a ninth-place finish, one spot behind Almirola.

With team ownership based in Naples, Germain Racing also has its No. 9 and No. 77 Tundras on the entry list for the Smith’s Food and Drug Stores 350. Justin Hobgood will handle the No. 9 machine and Jason Bowles will pilot the No. 77.

Meanwhile, in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series action at Dover, Del., Casey Mears again will be among the go-or-go-home qualifiers for Sunday’s AAA 400. Qualifying is set for 3 p.m. today, and the race will be run at 1 p.m. Sunday.

After starting 18th on the 43-car grid last week at Loudon, Mears finished 38th, completing 93 laps in the Geico Camry. A vibration was blamed for ending Mears’ day prematurely.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series teams also are at Dover this weekend, which means Germain’s Michael Annett will be involved with his No. 15 Germain.com Camry. Race time is 3 p.m. Saturday. Annett holds the 12th-place spot in the series standings. The Nationwide drivers were idle last week.

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Bristol Motor Speedway – August 20, 2010

- Kyle Busch tied the record for most series victories in a single season, winning his 10th NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS)
race of the season Friday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. Busch previously tied Sam Ard (1983) for the record in 2008.
The win marks the 50th NNS victory for Toyota since joining the series in 2007, and the first at the half-mile oval.

- Jason Leffler (second), Trevor Bayne (sixth), Reed Sorenson (eighth) and Joey Logano (10th) also earned top-10 finishes for Toyota. Camry drivers Michael Annett (18th), Brendan Gaughan (21st), Brian Scott (25th), Steve Wallace (30th) and Kasey Kahne (37th) were also in the field.

- Toyota drivers Busch (third), Wallace (seventh), Bayne (eighth), Leffler (ninth), Gaughan (10th), Logano (11th), Annett (12th), Scott (13th) and Sorenson (14th) are in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings after 24 of 35 races.

Finishing Position: 1st

How was your race tonight?

“It was a pretty good race for us. We had trouble in practice trying to get the car exactly the way I wanted it. We were close, but Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) worked really hard with the guys to try and make sure that we had a winning car here tonight. We were swinging things at it all day. We came up with a good combination there for the race. It was a little too loose all night, but I kept trying to move my line around and try to find something that would work for me and I was able to do that a little bit. Had good pit stops and just being able to keep our track position all night really helped us so we didn’t have to pass too much. Just getting up there at the end and being able to set sail when it mattered most and get to victory lane.

What happened with Brad Keselowski during the race?

“I raced and raced and raced him (Brad Keselowski) and I don’t know for 12, 15 laps and my Z-Line Camry was pretty awesome tonight. The guys did a great job. It was loose, but it was good. I thought I had him cleared on the back and I moved up in front of him and instead of him doing an Earnhardt crossover move he decided that he would just run into the back of me and put me in the fence. So, that’s Brad Keselowski. So, you know, I went down into the next corner and dumped him. He does it to everybody else.

Why can’t I do it to him? So, whatever. It don’t matter. Jim and Monica (Sexton) are awesome. I can’t thank Z-Line Designs enough. Toyota, NOS Energy Drink, Marquis Jets, Gillette and Nationwide Insurance for supporting the series. It’s fun to come over here and race and I enjoy it, and of course it’s cool to put this 18 car in victory lane.”

How do continue to win races after having frustrating nights?

“You just keep working. Yeah, you can be frustrated all day long. You can be mad at yourself all day long, but you just keep digging, you keep your focus forward and you keep working as hard as you can, and that’s all that I could do. I tried and tried and tried lap after lap to stay clean with Brad (Keselowski) and I finally had him almost cleared — yeah I slid up in front of him — that’s a slide job and then he ran into the back of me and put me in the wall. So, I said forget it man, you play that game and I’ll play it back. So, I dumped him.”

Kyle Busch poses for the crowd at Bristol Motor Speedway after winning the Food City 250, his 10th victory of the season. - Photo Credit: Todd Warshaw / Getty Images

Are you excited to tie your record for 10 Nationwide Series wins in a season?

“That’s pretty cool. I forgot all about that. It didn’t matter to me. What’s more special is this car and this is (chassis) 61. This car has won now that a half-mile, a three-quarter mile, a mile, a mile and a third, mile and a half — I don’t think there are any mile and three quarters, but it’s won at a two-mile race track as well. So, it’s won everywhere. This baby, it’s an awesome race car.”

How good does it feel to win this race?

“It’s pretty awesome — to be with this race team. These guys will stick behind me through anything. So, do what you want. We were having fun and this Z-Line Designs Camry was awesome tonight. I can’t thank the guys enough. Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and all of the guys here at JGR (Joe Gibbs Racing) that did a great job for me. It was fun. It was really, really loose tonight. I was barely hanging on, but we were able to prevail, get out front and win this thing.”

How important is getting the 11th win and breaking the record for wins in a single season?

“It’s pretty awesome. To me, it’s cool to have the opportunity. We’ve got, I don’t know, eight, nine, 10 more races left or whatever it is to get the opportunity to do it. Hopefully luck can fall our way and we can get number 11. Number 11 is going to be pretty special because for one, it’s never been done before. For two, it brings one of our crew members that has never been to victory lane before to victory lane.

I’ve mentioned it before, Leo Thorsen, the car chief on our car for some reason just doesn’t like coming to victory lane, but I told him on win number 11 when I break the record for most wins and you’re a part of it, I said, ‘You’re coming to victory lane and getting your picture taken and hanging it up on the wall for your kids to see he was a part of it.’ Kevin Grubb, the engine tuner, he was with Sam (Ard) back when Sam won 10 so it’s pretty cool to have him here now. Three seasons he’s been able to do it.”

What would it mean to win all three races at Bristol this weekend?

“I just hope that I have a good enough race car to do it. I feel like we worked really hard today — Dave (Rogers) and myself. We didn’t quite find the things that I wanted in the car, but we kind of heard over the radio a lot of people scanning that were saying the same things that I was. I couldn’t quite get the car to react the way that I wanted it to from when I won here in the past, but hopefully that’s just a tendency of this tire and everybody is kind of fighting that.

It’s going to be difficult, but coming down to decision time at the end of the race, if you’ve got an opportunity to do it and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity as we’ve seen. I haven’t been able to get it done yet. I’ve been close a few times, but it seems like the last one is always the hardest one to get. You never know what happens.

It’s 500 laps of racing at Bristol under the lights so we could have something bad happen early on and be done right there.
If we can get to the end of the race and have a shot, I wouldn’t want anything other than that and to take that Doublemint Camry to victory lane would be pretty special. To do the triple here at Bristol, where no one has ever done it ever in NASCAR I think would be cool too.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What are some of the things you encountered on pit road tonight?

“We spent a lot of time adjusting on this car today in practice and threw a lot of things at it. These guys worked their tales off. Never really could find what we needed to get the car right and made a few changes before the race and we jumped the fence obviously a little bit. Got it a little too free. First pit stop, tightened it up a little bit and it looked like it was exactly what we needed. The car just seemed to get better, the lap times got better the longer you went and then in the last pit stop, made no adjustments.

Just put a set of tires on it and I don’t know if it was track conditions or just that set of tires, but that thing got free again. Thankfully, it was a long run. I was hoping that typically when you have cautions here and the tires cycle every time you restart the car is a little bit tighter so I was hoping for a few cautions there to see if the cycles would tighten the car up and it worked out. Kyle (Busch) did a great job, obviously.

This place — you’ve got to be fast, but you’ve got to come through lapped traffic here. I was amazed at how he came
through lapped traffic tonight. The win was neat, but to watch him come through five, six cars it’s just incredible. Great job by him and great job by these guys and to finally get a win here at Bristol — this place, I’m not going to say it has haunted us — but we just haven’t been able to close the deal here. We’ve had some really good cars in the past and to finally get that is great, and for it to be the 10th one of the season is even more special.”

Jason Leffler

JASON LEFFLER, No. 10 Fraternal Order of Eagles Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

How was your run tonight?

“It was really strong. My car was really good off the trailer. Eddie Pardue (crew chief) and everybody at Braun Racing did a great job. The FOE (Fraternal Order of Eagles) was good. First lap on the track I knew we were going to have a good day. We just fine- tuned it and qualified top-10 — sixth there — and ran pretty good. Pit stops were a little bit slow — I shouldn’t say they were slow — we lost a few spots there. Track position was really important here at Bristol, but on the long run my car really hauled butt. That was good. And then the last couple of restarts worked out really well for me where I was able to restart on the outside line which helped a lot. It’s easy to get pinched down here, but the racing is great here at Bristol.”

What was the key to your second-place finish tonight?

“The restarts worked out. We got on the outside line there the last couple of restarts. The FOE (Fraternal Order of Eagles) Camry was really fast all day so it was good to come home second. I just cut it a little short there. The 18 (Kyle Busch) and the 20 (Joey Logano) are really fast cars and trying to keep up with them, but it was fun racing. A lot of fun all night. I’ve got to thank all of the fans for coming out. This is a great place and we’ll build upon this and get a couple more finishes and maybe get a win sometime this year.”

Are you going to try to pitch to change your number from 38 to 10 full-time since you had better luck?

“We were talking about that — the 38 has some bad luck whether Kasey (Kahne) drives it or I drive it, it seems like something happens. Every time I get in this 10 car we run good, we run top-five. I don’t know. We need to do something there. For us, we just change the number. I keep the same crew and everything so you can’t really blame the crew for the bad luck. It’s got to be in the number.”

Trevor Bayne

TREVOR BAYNE, No. 99 Out! Pet Care Toyota Camry, Diamond-Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 6th

Are you happy with a sixth-place finish at your home track?

“Not bad. We finally got a good finish at Bristol. We got a sixth-place finish. This team has so much momentum. When we finish sixth now we feel like it’s a 15th back in the day. We’re like, ‘Man, we’re so ready to get into the top-three or victory lane.’ It was an awesome Out! Pet Care Toyota today. A little bit tight and that’s what we fought all day. It seemed like we dropped back quite a bit, but we got through the field at the end and got a sixth-place finish.”

Reed Sorenson

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 8th

How was your race tonight?

“We were average all night. We weren’t that great and I thought the middle of the race was probably our best and then there at the end we got a couple things of damage that hurt us a little bit so it was okay overall. It was a decent top-10. We just need to figure out how to get a little bit better.”

Finishing Position: 37th

What happened to take you out of the race?

“I was on the outside and had no more room and I guess the 12 (Justin Allgaier) didn’t know I was there or he got pushed up — I don’t know, I haven’t seen it. I was just kind of there and once he put me in the wall I was up on the wall and slid down the front straight away until it came to a stop. I just stayed there for a little bit. It’s kind of like spinning out, but you’re on your side. We were fast.

The Great Clips Toyota was really good. It’s disappointing because we’ve always had real fast cars here.”

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Watkins Glen International – August 7, 2010

- Marcos Ambrose earned his third consecutive victory at Watkins Glen in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Nationwide Series
(NNS) race.

- Ambrose started on the pole and led twice for 60 (of 82) laps at the 2.45-mile upstate New York road course.
Joey Logano (second) and Kyle Busch (fifth) also earned top-five finishes for Toyota.

- Camry drivers led all 82 laps in 200.9-mile race — Busch (14 laps) and Logano (eight laps) also led laps for Toyota.
Jacques Villeneuve (eighth), Steve Wallace (ninth), Tayler Malsam (12th), Brian Scott (13th), Michael Annett (19th), Trevor Bayne (29th), Brendan Gaughan (30th) and Jason Leffler (35th) were also in the field for Toyota.

- Toyota drivers Busch (third), Wallace (seventh), Bayne (eighth), Gaughan (ninth), Leffler (10th), Annett (11th), Scott (12th), Logano (13th) and Reed Sorenson (15th) are in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings after 22 of 35 races.

Finishing Position: 1st

What does this win mean to you?

“It’s just a huge win for us. Frank Kerr (crew chief) has been so good to my career and I have to thank him so much for every opportunity he gets me to victory lane. Scott Zipadelli helped too this weekend, he’s had a tough chart but he’s awesome too. What a great day for our guys. I’m saying goodbye to JTG Daugherty Racing at the end of the year and it’s just nice to get some wins for them. I’m hoping I can do it in the Cup Series tomorrow but this feels really sweet.”

How did you pass Kyle Busch on lap 40?

“He’s hard to pass and whenever you’re going to do it you’ve got to do it in style. I couldn’t pass him (Kyle Busch) on straight-line speed. He just had too much top end on us so I just waited for some lapped traffic to try to get around him and get some momentum on him and just out-foxed him there coming across the top of the hill. If I had to try to do that 100 times again I probably wouldn’t do it because it was just one of those moments that just came together. He got boxed on the outside. The lapped car didn’t quite know where to go and baulked his run and I just took advantage. It was pretty awesome. I passed him last year and I’m sure he’s no more pleased this year.”

Why have you been so successful at Watkins Glen?

“I’ve got no idea — just growing up road racing, especially these heavy cars. I seem to feel comfortable with them sliding around on these road courses. Just got a great crew, a great setup and we managed to make the most of it. This win, this year was probably our most dominate and I’m just really proud. We’ve been through a tough patch here at JTG (Daugherty). It hasn’t been the year that we all wanted. I’m just glad to get into victory lane to make it feel right.”

How do you translate this win into another win in tomorrow’s Cup race?

“We have learned some definitely. We had a great handling race car today. We took on the very best teams and we dominated and we’ve got a good understanding of what we need to do. Converting that to a Cup car is a little more tricky with the way that the bump stops work and so forth. We’ll be thinking tonight about what we need for tomorrow. We didn’t quite qualify where we wanted to in the Cup Series car. Right now, I’m just going to enjoy the moment and enjoy today. It’s been a great rollercoaster ride for us. It’s the most satisfying win I’ve ever had. It’s just a great day for us.”

Why was this the most satisfying victory for you?

“We’ve been through so much together. The last few weeks have been really challenging for us. My future is not certain in NASCAR and just to come out like we did today with the passion, even though we’ve been through a lot of trials and tribulations this year. It just feels really satisfying. I feel good for everybody on this table and that I was able to get them back to victory lane.

We’ve got a job to do tomorrow to try and get them there in the Cup Series. It’s just really satisfying to think that we’ve come this far and we can leave as good friends at the end of this season and as winners. That’s what is so important. I’ve won championships and I felt good winning championships, but today for me just feels like it’s right. It’s the most perfect day I’ve ever had.”

FRANK KERR, crew chief, No. 47 Kwik Fill /Red Apple/ Zippo Toyota Camry, JTG-Daugherty Racing

How special is this win for you?

“We really needed this. Like Marcos (Ambrose) said, we’ve had a tough year. We have a great team and we just come to the race track that’s probably his best race track and we had a good car and worked on it pretty hard and made some changes the other day to give him what he wanted. Now we’ll go out and do it tomorrow I hope.”

Did Marcos Ambrose make you nervous at all during today’s race?

“We had a little motor mount or something going wrong. The shifter was moving around there, I’m not sure what was going on there. We had a great car all weekend from when we unloaded and put a lot of effort in it. Marcos Ambrose did a heck of a job today.”

TAD GESCHICKTER, co-owner, JTG-Daugherty Racing

How special is this win for you?

“This one is special. Marcos (Ambrose) and Jodi and Brad (Daugherty) started this journey a few years ago and I guess everyone knows by now that the ride is going to end here in November. He’s (Marcos Ambrose) has become a great friend. I believe he’s one of the greatest race car drivers out there. It’s just fun to win together and go off on a good note. Thank you Marcos. Thank you Quik Fill and Zippo. Thank you TRD (Toyota Racing Development) — great power, great car. It was just a great day so it felt good.”

BRAD DAUGHERTY, co-owner, JTG-Daugherty Racing

How special is this win for you?

“It really is. This race team has really worked extremely hard this year. We haven’t had the results that we want, because we always want to be in victory lane every weekend. I’m really proud of Marcos (Ambrose) and Frankie (Kerr, crew chief) and our whole team. Guys have really put in a lot of effort and time and a lot of sweat, a little bit of blood and a little bit of tears to getting here and it makes it that much sweeter. We’re really thankful though to Zippo and TRD (Toyota Racing Development). Great race cars that they’ve been giving us — great power so we’re really blessed. Like Tad (Geschickter) says, the ride is going to come to an end and our relationship racing-wise is going to end here very soon. Marcos is a friend and we’re very, very proud to have him drive our race car.

He’s done a great job for us and we look forward to maybe getting another one tomorrow.”

Joey Logano - Photo Credit: Sam Greenwood / Getty Images for NASCAR

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

What was the battle for second like with Kevin Harvick right on your rear bumper?

“I’m glad we ran each other clean, that was cool. I went over and thanked (Kevin Harvick). There was a couple times when he probably could have got me at the end when we caught that lap car and I lost a ton of momentum right there trying to get around it and he was there. Either way we had a good car, the GameStop Toyota was good. We had nothing for the 47 (Marcos Ambrose) — he’s the man.

He’s pretty good here. It seemed like we started to race good and then we put a bad set of tires on or something there on our second run and we really dropped off to fourth or fifth-place. We changed tires and had the speed again, I just had to get the track position back and we were able to do that. I’m happy with a second-place (finish). This is the first time I’ve been happy with a second-place but when I come to a road course like this, that’s definitely the first time I’ve been excited.”

What did you learn from Marcos Ambrose in today’s race?

“A lot. You follow someone like that and you can learn a lot. Any of these guys, when you come to a place like this you follow them and really learn a lot. I could see where I was getting beat. I get beat a lot in (turn) two in the beginning of the race and I felt like by the end I was maintaining — maybe still losing a little bit but I felt like I was closer. That was somewhere that I’m struggling a lot in the Cup car.

Marcos (Ambrose) was pretty good through the bus stop to start. Just watching the line, the curbs he hits, when he hits them, the speed he carries — I definitely learned a lot. I picked up the most through there and was able to be pretty good by the end of the race there. We were good about everywhere except for the Carousel. I got my butt handed to me every time I went through there by everybody. That’s our biggest problem that we have to work on.”

Kyle Busch No.18 Combos Toyota Camry - Joe Gibbs Racing

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Combos Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

Did you think you had a race-winning car today?

“We had a really good car. The Combos Camry was fast. Marcos (Ambrose) got by me in traffic a little bit there and I tried keeping up with him and I was just getting too tight. We wanted to make an adjustment and we did that, but we overstepped it. We went too far. I just got so loose at the end of the race I couldn’t get into the corners or off the corners. I didn’t have the side bite to lean against through the corner. Overall, a good day. It was a good performance. It keeps us up there in the owner’s points and we’ll take it on to next week.

Did the adjustments on the final pit stop hurt your car?

“We made some adjustments there on the last stop, and unfortunately, we jumped it. We went too far. We just wanted to make it turn a little bit better. I felt like he (Marcos Ambrose) was beating me through the Carousel. We raised the track bar and just killed our side bite.

I just slid backward from there. Just way too loose at the end of the race. But the guys on this Combos Camry gave me a great racecar to probably win the race. I made a mistake in lapped traffic and he (Ambrose) got by us, but after that we still felt like we had a good car to try to race with him and beat him, but we overstepped the adjustment.”

Jacques Villeneuve (Photo Credit: Jason Smith / Getty Images for NASCAR)

JACQUES VILLENEUVE, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 8th

“Today was really fun. We tried a different pit strategy, and it didn’t quite work out which made our day challenging. We had a loose car during qualifying and we thought it would tighten up during the race, but unfortunately it did not. I feel we had a car that was better than eighth place, but due to some brake issues I had to be conservative during the race, and we lost a lot of time trying to overtake cars. I’d like to thank Braun Racing and Dollar General for giving me the opportunity to race at Watkins Glen. I’m looking forward to being back in the car at Montreal in just a few weeks.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 9th

Finishing Position: 12th

How was your race today?

“Today went great for us. We were tight in the beginning, but Stewart loosened me up and we were good from there on. We stayed out of trouble and got a good finish for it. I was able to learn a lot at a track I had never been to, and bring home a good finish for Iron Horse Jeans. I’m really proud of all the guys, we had great stops all night, which really helped us a lot.”

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 AccuDoc Solutions Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Pet Care Toyota Camry, Diamond-Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 29th

What happened to take you out of the race?

“The track closed off. The 38 (Jason Leffler) bounced off the guardrail and got us. I saw the 16 (Colin Braun) spinning forever and I tried to check up and there cars all behind us so I veered to the left and as soon as I did the 38 bounced off the guardrail and caught us in the left rear, spun us around, put us in the guardrail.

No where for any body to go. I told somebody earlier that I could’ve let go of the steering wheel and had about the same chance of getting through the crash because there was no way you could do anything to get through it no matter what you did. I hate it for this Out! Pet Care Toyota, but we’ll see if we can get back out on the track.”

Brendan Gaughan - Photo Credit: Sam Greenwood / Getty Images for NASCAR

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 South Point Casino & Hotel Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 30th

What happened to take you out of the race?

“We were back in the top-20, going to start going forward and got on the very bottom where I figured out Camry would be safe. I’m like, ‘Alright, on the bottom will be okay.’ I saw everybody spin and I saw the commotion happen. I got stopped and in this sport spotters are a big deal, man. I got just pounded from behind, pushed way into it and put Boris (Said) up on my hood.

I think somebody hit Tony Raines even harder and put him into me. The Toyota Camry was still running, but I guess we locked the oil line off of it. It’s a points thing. I see the 99 (Carl Edwards) here and the 38 (Jason Leffler). That’s all top-10 in points, man. I’ve got to
get out there and get some laps and stay there.”

Jason Leffler

JASON LEFFLER, No. 38 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 35th

What happened to take you out of the race?

“I got wide off of turn one there and the 16 (Colin Braun) car just didn’t let me back in. I was almost out of pavement and eased over and he was still there and clipped me in the right-front and that sent me into the wall. You don’t do that because you’re going to take out a bunch of cars and he did.

It’s part of it, but I feel bad for everybody else involved. I’ll take the blame because I was off the track, but you’ve got to let somebody in especially 20 laps into the race. It’s a give and take, you know. It’s not the last lap so it’s a shame. I feel bad for everybody else and my team and everybody. I’m a little disappointed. I’ve been in a lot of wrecks it seems like with him this year. It gets a little disappointing after a while.”

(July 21, 2010) – With his homecoming to Iowa Speedway just one week away, NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Michael Annett is gearing up for two consecutive weeks of short track racing. This week the Nationwide Series circuit will compete on O’Reilly Raceway Park’s .686 mile oval before its second ever appearance on Iowa Speedway’s .875 track.

Sitting just miles from historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, O’Reilly Raceway Park will host the Nationwide Series Kroger 200 benefiting Riley Hospital for Children on Saturday, making it a two-in-a-row combination weekend for the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series after both series competed at Gateway International Raceway last week.

Entering his 20th race of the 2010 season, Annett stands 13th in the Nationwide Series championship point standings with only 115 points separating him from the top-10. With one race before his return to his home track, Iowa Speedway, and a steady trio of respectable finishes (12th at Daytona International Speedway, 14th at Chicagoland Speedway, 11th at Gateway International Raceway), Annett hopes to tighten his gap between the top-10 point race with his run at O’Reilly Raceway Park on Saturday.

As this weekend’s race falls third in a four week stretch of races in the Midwest, not only does Des Moines, Iowa native Annett enjoy visiting America’s Heartland, but so does mechanic and front tire carrier of the No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry, Ben Runge, who hails from Crawfordsville, Indiana. Considering O’Reilly Raceway Park his home track on the Nationwide Series circuit, Runge, who has been working in motorsports for over 14 years, takes pride in being part of Germain Racing’s No. 15 Germain.com team as they compete in the Hoosier State.

In his third career start at O’Reilly Raceway Park, Annett will hit the track in his No. 15 Germain.com Toyota for practice on Saturday from 10-11:15 a.m. Final practice runs from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. and airs on ESPN 2 at 12:30 p.m. Qualifying for the 200 lap race kicks off at 5:10 p.m. with a live broadcast on ESPN 2 beginning at 5 p.m. Watch and listen live to the Kroger 200 benefiting Riley Hospital for Children at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN and MRN Radio. All times are ET.

(July 3, 2010) – At the halfway mark in his second
full-season in NASCAR’s second tiered Nationwide Series, Michael Annett
currently stands 12th in the points race after the Subway Jalapeno 250
powered by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway. In the historic
first race in the Nationwide Series new car, Annett qualified 17th and
scored a 12th place finish after recovering from an early race spin.

Under the lights at the World Center of Racing, Annett pushed his way from
his 17th place start into the top-10 by lap 14. Running in the seventh
position, the former Daytona winner in the ARCA Racing Series got loose
off of the exit of turn four on lap 32, bringing out the second caution of
the event. Fortunately, no damage was caused to the No. 15 Germain.com
Toyota Camry.

Coming to pit road twice under yellow, the No. 15 took four tires, fuel
and put in a new right rear window to replace one that was blown out
during the spin. Restarting 33rd on lap 36, Annett didn’t lose his
determination and again shuffled his way through the pack and back into
the top-20 by lap 42. Moving up 20 spots from his restart by lap 61, he
continued to rebound and gain track position, although he was fighting a
loose handling condition.

The caution was again displayed on lap 69 for debris, allowing Annett to
come to pit road for service to his No. 15 Toyota Camry. He restarted 14th
for a 25 lap shootout.

Still reporting the car being extremely loose, Annett held steady in the
top-20 until relief came on lap 95, bringing out the final caution of the
night. With a four tire change, air pressure adjustment and wedge
adjustment, Annett was back on the track and ready to race for the green,
white, checkered finish to the Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola.

The No. 15 Germain.com Camry restarted 20th and crossed the finish line
recording a 12th place finish, his second consecutive 12th place finish on
Daytona’s legendary 2.5 mile tri-oval. His finish moved him two places
in Nationwide Series championship point standings to 12th, 117 points
outside of the top-10.

“I think every team out there wasn’t sure what to expect in the first
Nationwide Series new car race. We were good in single car runs and in the
draft during practice, so I felt good leading into Friday’s race,”
said Annett, “We had a good race car and we were really good through
turns one and two. I’m glad we were able to salvage a respectable finish
after that early spin and bring home a 12th place finish in our No. 15
Germain.com Camry. I’m so proud of all the guys for their hard work on
getting this new car ready. They’ve put a lot into this. I’m looking
forward to getting back behind the wheel of the new No. 15 Toyota at
Michigan.”

The second of four Nationwide Series new car races on the schedule for
2010 will be at Michigan International Raceway on August 14. In addition
to Daytona and Michigan, the Nationwide Series events at Richmond
International Raceway on September 10 and Charlotte
Motor Speedway on October 15 will be Nationwide Series new car points
races before the new car’s full integration into the series in 2011.

Next up on the Nationwide Series schedule is the Dollar General 300
powered by Coca-Cola. Live race coverage from the Windy City can be seen
and heard on ESPN and MRN Radio beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Daytona International Speedway – July 2, 2010

- Joey Logano (second) was the highest finishing Toyota driver in Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race
at Daytona International Speedway — the debut of the new Nationwide Series car.

- Camry driver Kyle Busch also earned a top-10 finish with a seventh-place result at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.

- Michael Annett (12th), Jason Leffler (14th), Steve Wallace (15th), Tayler Malsam (18th), Reed Sorenson (22nd), Trevor
Bayne (27th), Brendan Gaughan (29th), Brian Scott (30th) and Kevin Lepage (39th) were also in the field for Toyota.

- Camry drivers Busch (fourth), Logano (seventh), Wallace (eighth), Gaughan (ninth), Leffler (10th), Bayne (11th), Annett
(12th) and Scott (14th) are in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS point standings after 17 of 35 races.

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 SportClips Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

What happened on the final restart?

“I just wanted to win real bad. It seems like every time I come to restrictor-plate race tracks like this I push someone to a win. I just can’t get anyone to push me yet. I’m sure the fans are pretty pumped up about getting (Dale Earnhardt) Jr. back up in victory lane like that. Man, I wanted to be in victory lane. It was a good run, but it’s not a win.”

How was your race?

“We had a good car. I knew it was going to be a good car before the race started. I just wanted to win. I felt like me and Kyle (Busch) were able to work good together and I feel like maybe if a few of us pushed to the lead maybe I would’ve been able to do something to beat him. Kyle (Busch) and I kind of had a good plan going and then the caution came out. He pitted and kind of left me out there alone. So I restarted third and I was able to push the 3 (Dale Earnhardt Jr.) ahead quite a bit on the restart.

I go, ‘This is going to be good and when the 6 (Ricky Stenhouse Jr.) comes to me I’m going to maybe be able to make a run on the 3 and pass him.’ I did exactly that. The 6 got to me and I said, ‘Alright, here we go.’ He got right on me and I started looking high just so he knew I was going to go out there and he started peaking back to the bottom and I thought he was going to fill the hole on me so I went back to the bottom and settled for second. I’m sure I gained a lot of fans by pushing the 3 to victory lane so I’ve got that part going for me, but I’d much rather be in victory lane.”

Did you second guess yourself when you thought about pulling out to pass Dale Earnhardt Jr.?

“I want to win races. I’ll do whatever it takes to win a race. I was going to race him clean, I was going to do whatever it took. I guess I would’ve bummed out some (Dale) Earnhardt fans if I beat him, but I guess I gained a lot by doing what I did. I wanted to win — that was option number one for me.”

Did it ever cross your mind how unpopular a victory it might have been if you beat the 3 car?

“Yeah, but it’s Daytona and there’s nothing cooler than winning at this race track. It never crossed my mind that no one would like me because I won the race. I was all about winning it. I was going to do whatever I had to do to win a race. I wasn’t going to wreck him by no means, but I would’ve done whatever I can do to cleanly win the race and I didn’t make it.”

What are you impressions of the new car on the race track?

“I didn’t think they were that bad at all. I thought they were pretty good. When we came here for the test a few months ago everyone was pretty sideways and we were all chasing the car a lot, and I think all of these teams did a good job going back cutting up what they need to — new front ends or whatever they did to really make these things work better. When we unloaded here on Wednesday I said, ‘Man, it’s not too bad.

A little adjustment here or a little thing there and I feel like my car is one of the best ones out here.’ They definitely driver more like the Cup car which is good for me and I think is good for guys like Ricky (Stenhouse Jr.) that are trying to get there someday. I think that’s a cool part. Definitely the horsepower is still down so that makes you feel like they drive a lot better than the Cup car. But, I’m definitely able to transfer things from what I learned tonight into tomorrow which is cool. I haven’t been able to do that in a long time with Nationwide and Cup. I think that’s fun.”

Did you notice anything with the patch on turn 2?

“I didn’t notice anything. To be honest with you, I didn’t even know something was wrong last night when they fixed the patch out there. I didn’t see anything wrong with anything out there. It’s typical bumpy sliding around, hard to get your car to handle, but that’s Daytona and that’s really fun. I’m going to have my hands full tomorrow. I’m sure I’m going to get out of that race and thank God I’m still alive, I hope.

It’s crazy out there with the Sprint Cup cars. Everyone is definitely hanging on. You even saw today in the Nationwide race, and you’ve got to remember — I think they’re two seconds slower or something like that and you saw how much the field was breaking apart. Tomorrow, you’re going to see that plus some tomorrow trying to find clean air. The leaders had good enough cars that they were able to stay behind each other, but that was only four cars that were good enough to do that and the rest of them had to find clean air or do something like break apart.

I can’t tell you how many times I broke away from a pack racing with a car and then once it finally single-filed out me by myself with clean air I was able to run down the next pack in front of me — just because I had clean air — and that’s how big it is here. That’s going to be that times 10 tomorrow.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 NOS Loaded Cherry Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 7th

What are your impressions of the new Nationwide Series car?

“It was alright. It was a fine race. It was fun. They’re a bit of a handful. We learned a lot about it anyway right now.”

Did you notice any problem in turn two where they patched the track?

“No. We’re still dragging through there which is going to tear it up again anyway.”

Did you have to stop at the end of the race for tires?

“We didn’t have to — we just did because we thought the best way to beat the 3 (Dale Earnhardt Jr.). But, if I would have restarted behind him I probably could have had him. We thought tires were going to work, but everybody that’s back there in the back of the pack like that are in way.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 NOS Loaded Cherry Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What are your impressions of the new Nationwide Series car and why did you stop for tires late in the race?

“I felt like we learned a lot. I’m really proud of the guys back at the shop. They did a great job building these race cars and all the work that our engineers and road guys — they put a lot of effort into this thing at the test and I felt like we came back really strong. We had cars that ran up front all night. There at the end — it was just everybody was just lined up. You couldn’t get any track position and there wasn’t enough cars to bunch up and start passing again. We felt like we needed to come down and get tires and give it a shot. A lot of cars came with us. We needed more cars to come with us. It got all bunched up there at the end.

It was just a road block and we couldn’t get back to the front. All in all, I was really happy with our performance. Really
excited the way the car performed and nothing crazy happened. We’re looking forward to going to Michigan with it.”

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 12th

Finishing Position: 18th

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 22nd

How was your race tonight?

“Well, we definitely had our share of bad luck this weekend at Daytona. Having to go to a back-up Dollar General Toyota cost us a lot of practice time yesterday. Fortunately, Nationwide qualifying didn’t rain out and we were able to run two laps today. We were bottoming out really bad, so bad that we made repairs to the car and started from the back of the field.

Trent (Owens, crew chief) and the guys did a great job adjusting on the car and with our pit stops. We were really good in the final runs. We were running 13th when the right front tire just exploded. We almost had a good finish despite everything, but the tire pretty much ended that. Still, we learned a lot here this week and will be a lot further along when we race these new cars at Michigan.”

TREVOR BAYNE, No. 99 OUT! Pet Care Toyota Camry, Diamond-Waltrip Racing

(June 29, 2010) – The NASCAR Nationwide Series new
car will make its debut this weekend at legendary Daytona International
Speedway in Friday’s Subway Jalapeno 250 powered by Coca-Cola. Michael
Annett, a former winner at Daytona in the ARCA Racing Series, will pilot
the No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry for the inaugural Nationwide Series
new car race, one of four on the Nationwide Series schedule for 2010.

In addition to this week’s Subway Jalapeno 250, the Nationwide Series
events at Michigan International Speedway on August 14, Richmond
International Speedway on September 10 and Charlotte Motor Speedway on
October 15 will all be Nationwide Series new car points races before the
new car’s full integration into the series in 2011.

In preparation for Friday’s race, the No. 15 Germain Racing team
participated in NASCAR’s two day test of the new car at Daytona
International Speedway on Tuesday, May 18th and Wednesday, May 19th. Of
the 24 cars that completed the test, Annett was third fastest in the
Tuesday morning session, 12th in the Tuesday afternoon session and sixth
in the Wednesday morning session.

In response to the successful new car test in May, Annett said,
“Overall, we had a productive test at Daytona back in May. We learned a
lot about the new car, and it was really fun to drive. I’m excited about
the new car bringing more tightened competition among all of the teams in
the Nationwide Series. One of the best features about the new car is its
look. Each manufacturer’s model has created a signature look, so the
Toyota Camry now has its own identity. On the competition side, we
unloaded a really comfortable and fast race car.”

Statistically, Annett has shown great success on superspeedways with two
wins tallied in the ARCA Racing Series at Daytona International Speedway
(2008) and Talladega Superspeedway (2007). In five career qualifying
attempts at Daytona, Annett has started third (ARCA, 2008), fourth (ARCA,
2009), 18th (Nationwide Series, 2009), ninth (Nationwide Series, 2009) and
18th (Nationwide Series, 2010). He heads to Daytona on the heels of a 12th
place finish in his most recent run on the 2.5 mile tri-oval in
February’s Drive4COPD 300.

“Daytona has always been one of my favorite tracks, so I’m looking
forward to the first race in the new car being on a superspeedway. We’ll
be racing the new car on a variety of tracks this season, but Daytona will
be our only superspeedway run,” said Annett. “Not only have I run well
at Daytona, but I enjoy everything about racing there. I’m really
excited to get back on the track this week in the new No. 15 Toyota
Camry.”

An additional day of practice from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesday will enable teams
to have more time on the track in the Nationwide Series new cars to
prepare for Friday’s race. Practice on Thursday begins at 2 p.m. and
final practice gets underway at 5:30 p.m. Nationwide Series qualifying
starts at 1:05 p.m. on Friday, and engines fire up for the Subway Jalapeno
250 powered by Coca-Cola at 8 p.m. Watch and listen live on ESPN and MRN
Radio beginning at 7:30 p.m. All times are ET.

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Road America – June 19, 2010

- Brendan Gaughan (third) was the highest-finishing Toyota driver in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race
at Road America for his best finish of the season.

- Brad Coleman (sixth), Jason Leffler (eighth), Steve Wallace (ninth) and Trevor Bayne (10th) also finished among the top-
10 for Toyota at the four-mile road course in Elkhart Lake, Wis.

- Camry drivers Brian Scott (13th), Patrick Long (14th), Tayler Malsam (15th), Michael Annett (24th), Jacques Villeneuve
(25th) and Matt DiBenedetto (29th) were also in the field.

- Four Toyota drivers led laps in the 50-lap, 200-mile event — Coleman (seven), Leffler (three), Villeneuve (three and Long
(two).

- Gaughan climbed two spots to the seventh in the unofficial NNS point standings following Road America, highest among
the Toyota drivers running the full schedule. Kyle Busch (fourth), Wallace (eighth), Leffler (ninth), Joey Logano (10th),
Bayne (11th) Scott (12th) and Annett (14th) are also in the top-15 in points after 15 of 35 races.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 South Point Casino & Hotel Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing
Finishing Position: 3rd

How was your race today?

“It was a great race. I love this race track. I remember coming here when I was about 16, 17 years old, trying to learn at the Skip Barber school and doing that stuff. Everything I remember about this place, man, ‘Canada Corner’ is just fast and let it roll it up the hill. We race against such good race car drivers. I got to race against Ron Fellows and Jacques Villeneuve at the end, and remember I’m older than the 19-year-olds that we’re racing against, so to me, racing against Jacques Villeneuve and Ron Fellows on a road course, I was having the time of my life. Wished I could’ve got him — had to restart on the outside that last time. I held on about as long as I could and then he had the preferred line going into (turn) three and I was able to hold on for third. I’ll take that right now. It’s a great points day. RWR (Rusty Wallace Racing) had two Toyotas in the top-10. Steven (Wallace) I heard finished ninth. (RWR) is starting to turn it on.”

How were your brakes today?

“This is a heavy-brake track, but we have great equipment. We have great guys at the shop that put our pieces together and we have good quality equipment. They lived all day for me, I never had a problem. Maybe every once in a while, you hit them rumble strips so hard that it knocks the pucks back, and you gotta give a tip to get the brakes back there. Other than that, my brakes were perfect.”

Do you think Road America is a proper track for NASCAR?

“This is a professional road course right here, guys. There’s no making a different course out of it, short-cutting it, making it shorter. This is a man’s man road course. The ‘Kink’ takes some (guts) getting through there. This is a fun race track, man. I would love to see the Cup guys here. There is no way NASCAR says no. There had to be 90,000 people here. If that doesn’t tell you — a Nationwide race just drew 90,000 people — that’s a great show.”

BRAD COLEMAN, No. 18 SafeWay Driving Centers Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 6th

JASON LEFFLER, No. 38 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 8th

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 9th

How was your race today?

“We had a pretty decent 5-Hour Energy Camry today. We kept adjusting on it throughout the day and got it pretty good by the end. We were trying to play out a little bit different fuel strategy and unfortunately, there were just too many caution laps at the end of the race. We kept digging though and managed to get another top-10 out of it.”

TREVOR BAYNE, No. 99 OUT! Pet Care Toyota Camry, Diamond-Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 10th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 11 BigSpot.com Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 13th

PATRICK LONG, No. 90 System High Corporation Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 14th

TAYLER MALSAM, No. 10 Braun Racing Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 15th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 24th

JACQUES VILLENEUVE, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 25th

How was your race today?

“It was actually a lot more fun than expected. The cars drove really well around the course and it was a fun race. It was
obviously a lot different than the last time I was here, but it was fun out there today.”

Did brakes play an issue late in the race?

“The brakes were actually better at the end of the race. I don’t know if the temperature cooled down a bit, but I could drive a lot harder at the end of the race. The car felt really good there. It’s too bad. It’s really annoying to work so hard all weekend and not have the result. The crew worked hard and my Dollar General car was amazing all weekend. It’s just tough when you do two races and a year. You have to make the most of them.”

How did you complete the three-wide pass for the lead?

“That was fun. That’s one place I knew I was braking later than the 60 (Carl Edwards). I had seen it all race and I was close enough. It was three-wide and I knew it was going to be tight, but you have to take your chances when they’re available. He was quicker than us all through the race so I had to take my chance when I could. I was battling the front brakes all race. Then at the end, after the last restart, the car was really, really quick, but then we had electrical problems.”

MATT DiBENEDETTO, No. 20 Pizza Ranch Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 29th

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Homestead-Miami Speedway – November 21, 2009

- Camry driver Kyle Busch earned the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) championship when he took the green flag on
Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The championship marks the first NNS driver’s title for Toyota and the first
NASCAR championship for the 24-year old Las Vegas-native.

- Busch won his ninth NNS race of 2009 and 15th for Toyota this season when he took the checkered flag at Homestead-Miami
Speedway. Busch also become the first driver since 1983 (Sam Ard) to win both the season-finale and the championship in the
series.

- Camry drivers Joey Logano (fourth), Denny Hamlin (fifth), David Reutimann (sixth) and Scott Speed (ninth) also earned top-10
finishes.

- Jason Leffler (18th), Michael Annett (21st), Justin Marks (32nd) and Chase Miller (37th) were also in the field.

- This season, Camry drivers had 15 victories, 68 top-fives, 127 top-10 finishes, and have led 3,854 laps.

What are you thinking after winning the race and the championship?

“It’s been a while since that’s been done. I don’t mean to be selfish, but that’s the way for these guys to go out. They deserve it. This whole team and all these guys that work so hard on this Z-Line Designs Camry. I can’t thank Toyota enough, I can’t thank Z-Line, NOS Energy Drink, the Nationwide Series, thank all the fans – not just here in Homestead, but across NASCAR’s nation here. Of course Jim (Sexton, president and CEO of Z-Line Designs) and Monica (Sexton) are here to help us celebrate tonight and Marquis
Jets, Gillette and everybody that’s been on board and a part of our program this year. This is huge. My mom and dad are here tonight, my brother came up to me before the race knowing that all we had to do was take the green flag – this is cool. I wish I could have been with Kurt (Busch) in 2004 winning the championship. This one here means a whole lot for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and
everybody at JGR – all the guys that work so hard at building these things, not just in the Nationwide shop, but in the Cup shop, the
fab shop, everybody. Joe and J.D. Gibbs and everybody is here – Norm Miller from Interstate Batteries, it’s just great.”

What were your thoughts with Carl Edwards coming on fresh tires on the last lap?

“It was a little nerving, I knew Carl (Edwards) would be coming with fresh tires – he was really fast. I was hoping Jeff Burton could
hold him up long enough to help burn his tires off a little bit before he got free and chased me down. I was just trying to hit my marks every single time. I finally found something, I couldn’t find it all race long and in the broadcast I said I couldn’t find anything.
Finally, with about 40 (laps) to go I found something there and kept running in that lane.

It prevailed and it paid off for us. I was able to keep my momentum going and keep those guys behind me. He bonsaied me there and I wasn’t quite sure if we were going to connect there. What a close race that might have been for the fans to watch and everybody – I’m sure it was exciting on TV knowing Carl (Edwards) and what he did at Kansas last year. Glad he missed us and we were able to come out on top.”

<img src="http://www.catchfence.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/2009-Homestead-Nov-NNS-Kyle-Busch-drives-with-championship-flag_thumb.jpg" alt="After receiving the checkered flag for winning Saturday's NASCAR Nationwide Ford 300, Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota, celebrates by waving the championship flag in the car around Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla. (Photo Credit: Jason Smith / Getty Images for NASCAR)

How was tonight’s race for you?

“It was a tough race for sure. We weren’t the best car here for a long time. All the guys made some great race calls, Jason (Ratcliff,
crew chief) and everybody else. That’s why we’re a championship team and that’s why we made it here tonight is because these guys can fight through stuff and we made some adjustments to the car that really brought it to life and I was able to pass those guys on that restart and get up towards the front and lead those laps. When that last caution came out, I knew Carl (Edwards) was going to try to do the same thing that I just did. I was worried that he was going to get back to us.”

Does this championship make running races in all three series worth it?

“It is, it’s definitely worth it. I love being able to race as many vehicles as I can and this championship right here defines all that and
being able to race as many vehicles as I can race and still be able to produce – I feel like a lot of these tracks I’m good at. About every track I’m good at. There’s not really a track that I’m super at and then a track that I’m not that good at. I’m just good at all of them. Being able to do that and work with these guys and make our cars better.”

Where does this rank in your career accomplishments?

“This is the biggest one – this is it. It hasn’t sunk in yet and it probably won’t for a couple of days. Carl (Edwards) told me before the race, ‘When I won the championship it didn’t mean that much to me the day of, but once it got to the following season and you were called champ or reigning champ or whatever, it really means a lot and really hits home.’ Thank Nationwide for the series and for
helping support the series and all they’ve done for us. It’s a great year and it’s a tribute to all these guys. Everybody at JGR (Joe
Gibbs Racing) and all these guys on this team – everybody at the fab shop, the engine shop, chassis shop. These cars are phenomenal and it takes a lot of work in order to get these done. We’ve had a really strong season and those guys behind us had a really strong season as well – it wasn’t that we just barely lucked into this thing. We won it and we won it in good style.”

What does it mean that the last series champion to win the final race was Sam Ard?

“That brings a smile to my face, just the relationship that I’ve had with Sam (Ard) and what I’ve been able to talk to him so far.

That’s the history of this sport – that’s what those guys are all about. Sam (Ard) and I have some records together and I’ve broken some of his and I’ve broken other people’s records, but none of them mean as much as being able to win a race at the season finale and really solidify your championship and put icing on the cake.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

How does it feel to be a championship crew chief?

“Incredible. When you stop and think about it, it becomes a little bit emotional. To think about what we’re able to do – the blessings
that we’ve been blessed with all season long. Kyle (Busch) and this whole team, what we’ve been able to accomplish as a group. I
don’t know, I don’t have the words for it right now. It’s just awesome to be able to put those goals up there in front of us and go out there and achieve them. We did everything we set out to do and then even more than we expected. I don’t know if we can ever have another season like this, but we’re going to try.”

What can you say about the records that Kyle Busch has broken this season?

“He’s (Kyle Busch) incredible. He deserves every record he broke and his name deserves to by it. We’re just glad that we could be a
part of it. This group of guys, I’ve been working with this group for more than four years now and they just never quit. They just keep on, keep on, keep on. We kind of challenge each other. Kyle (Busch) challenges us when we finish second and then we challenge him in situations like tonight where we make a decent call and get him out front and then he’s got to step up on the wheel and show what he’s all about.”

JOE GIBBS, team owner, Joe Gibbs Racing

What does it mean to win the Nationwide championship?

“I think these are things that — the great things in life are the memories that you have and that you don’t forget, and I remember
standing out one time after a Super Bowl, and I turned to Charles Manning, and he said to me, the thrill was getting here, everything
that you had to do to get here, all the times you’ve fought, and you have a wreck, you have this, you have that, things that happen. The thing I told Kyle before we started, to me what impresses me is this car ran great all year. I mean, super all year, and we went all the way to the last race before we could win the championship. So it shows you how hard this is.”

J.D. GIBBS, president, Joe Gibbs Racing

What does this championship mean for your team?

“This is such a big deal for us and these are so hard to come by. I think Nationwide, Cup – it’s just a blessing for us. To watch Kyle
(Busch) and the way he worked through the season and worked with Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and all the guys coming together -
that’s a big deal. For us, we’ll celebrate this and this one is going to last quite a while.”

What has Kyle Busch learned about winning championships?

“What he’s kind of learned over here, we’ve taken a lot of seconds, a lot of thirds – they’re not fun to take. On the Cup side, that’s
taking your fifths, your 10ths, and you just learn that when you’re running for a championship there’s certain things that are required
there.”

Finishing Position: 4th

How was tonight’s race for you?

“It was a rough one. We weren’t good enough to win by no means. We got out in the lead for a little bit, but I knew we weren’t good enough to be up there. We finished fourth and that’s where we ran. I think that’s where we should have run. I felt like there at the end when the leaders pitted and we stayed out, I said, ‘We ain’t going to win the way we are so let’s go for the gold and try something different.’ That didn’t work for us so then we got the last caution and we tried to go for the gold again and get some new tires. My race car just wasn’t fast enough, we were digging hard. Everyone did a great job, just missed it by a little bit. Carl (Edwards) and Kyle (Busch) were really the best cars, 29 (Jeff Burton) was really good too. We’ll take it. We ran fourth, we finished fourth so it is what it is.”

Denny Hamlin

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 GodSpeaks.com Toyota Camry, CJM Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

How good was your race car tonight?

“We just had a crack in the header right there when we were trying to get our lap back and it just wore through and killed our
horsepower. All in all it is still a great day for us. I felt like we had something for those guys but that horsepower loss that we had
through the exhaust it really hurt us there towards the end.”

What happened when you got into the back of Brad Keselowski?

“Yeah, the sun was real bad at that point and I really couldn’t see a whole lot. I think the fans right there, they got their money’s worth today.”

What was your plan at the beginning of the race?

“I was just trying to worry him (Brad Keselowski) to death and force him into a mistake and that’s what he did. As soon as I got
behind him he drove in really, really deep and I said, ‘He’ll never make the corner.’ And he ended up getting into the wall. To me it’s
a victory for all of the guys who he’s taken out over the last 10 weeks. There’s a lot of guys — I was out there and a lot of guys took swipes at him and missed today so to be honest with you I’m surprised he was even able to drive it in.”

Are you disappointed with the penalty that NASCAR gave you?

“No, not at all. That’s the thing, if you do something obvious and blatant which I did you would expect a penalty and I’ll be honest
with you I thought it was going to be two laps. So one lap I wasn’t feeling too bad about. I knew we could come back from it and our car was still in one piece. That’s the thing, I wouldn’t try to cause harm to anyone and I knew spinning him (Brad Keselowski) at the point that I was that he wasn’t going to get hurt and his car wasn’t going to get hurt. I just wanted to make his day a little bit tougher.”

How did your car handle during the race?

“It was a long day. We fought and we fought to try to get it and those long green-flag runs just really hurt us to getting the track
position that we needed. Luckily we had a caution at the end that helped with that and we just had too many issues. That mechanical failure with the headers that cracked just killed our horsepower. So when we needed all of the horsepower that we needed at the end it just couldn’t keep up with those guys.”

“We were free on starts. The top seemed to tighten it up a little bit but I got over the bumps and it just stepped out from underneath me. I tried saving it and did everything I could possibly do and ended up not being able to save it and unfortunately we took out some other guys and ruined their day. I really hate it for the Verizon Wireless guys. We had a decent car. We were coming back through. We got the lucky dog, felt like we were in good shape and unfortunately our day is short. We got really good up on the top groove.”

WHAT HAPPENENED?

“Just a frustrating day. We felt like the Verizon Wireless Dodge was pretty good. Got a little bit loose after I got over the bumps and did everything I could to save it and chased it three or four different times back and forth and finally just couldn’t hold onto it anymore and come down in front of the rest of the field and that’s what happens. I hate it for those guys. We ruined their day and made their day short and hurt our chances for fifth in points so not the day we wanted for sure. I’m all right and we’ll come back the next two races and hopefully we’ll have the good luck that we needed today and we can get fifth back and still win the Raybestos Rookie of the Year championship.”

HOW DID YOU GET MIXED UP IN THAT?

“Just bad timing: wrong place, wrong time. It’s unfortunate. We worked hard on our car today and just have to think Brian and Bob Keselowski for giving me an opportunity to drive their car. Unfortunately today was not our day. The 12 got loose there and started coming down the hill. I tried to go to the top and he rolled back and got into him.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN IN THE No. 62 LOAN STAR TITLE LOANS CHEVROLET WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TODAY’S RACE AT TEXAS.

NOTES:

Gaughan posted a 16th-place finish and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the second consecutive race and for the eighth time this season.

John Wes Townley posted an 18th-place finish, his best effort in the last six races.

“With only three or four guys in the race that are running for Raybestos Rookie that only gains me a one or two points. It’s not enough. We had a good enough race car to be top-10 and really make a dent in the rookie points. That kid in the 1, I know he’s going to be a Raybestos Rookie next year but somebody is going to have to sit him down. I’ve heard a lot of people have tried to talk to him and teach him respect but he doesn’t have much. I was driving the car, my own fault, but I got right-sided pretty hard and it looked like we broke a track bar mount or something.

Just had to fudge it around and came home at least with what we did. We saved some points. We’ll get out of here and get to Phoenix and get that W I talked about.”

IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE.

“Oh it could have been a way worse day but it could have been way better. At the worst we were running sixth, seventh place. We should have been about a seventh-place race car. That gives us 13 or 14 Raybestos Rookie points and that cuts that lead right in half again. It wasn’t what we talked about where I get those wins to win this thing but at least it would have been a good championship points day and good Raybestos Rookie points day. Now it’s just mediocre.”

John Wes Townley

JOHN WES TOWNLEY, No. 09 ZAXBY’S FORD: YOU HAD A RESPECTBLE DAY.

“That was pretty good. We had that little penalty to start off with, kind of hurt us and we were three laps down at the end of the race. We got a top-20 finish and we’re excited about it. We’re not happy about what happened but we can’t dwell on it. We want to go on to the next week at Phoenix. We’ll get that Zaxby’s Ford out there and see what we can do.”

WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE PENALTY?

“I think there was a track bar adjustment or a minor adjustment that was unapproved by NASCAR. Unfortunately that resulted in how we did and we got those laps down because we got held up on pit road.”

YOU REBOUNDED AND CAME AWAY WITH SOLID FINISH.

“We got lucky there on one of those first cautions. We got two of our laps back. Everybody else pitted and the caution came out like two laps afterward and we got some of our laps back so that helped us out a lot.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

“Just battling for the lucky dog and we got a good run up on top around the 66 and he got loose down here and slid up in front of us. We had a really good run and we was to his quarter panel and he got loose again and I nailed the brake and he as going so slow at that point we got into the back of him that he just clipped us as we were trying to get around. We started off a little tight and that got us a lap down and put us in the situation to battle back.

There was one run where we were really good and then on a restart we were trying to get everything we could and I smacked the wall off two and put us about two pit stops behind. That was my fault. They’ve pretty much got a whole new race car when something like that happens and they battled back and got it to where it was good right when that happened. We were going to get around the 66 and hopefully get a caution and be back on the lead lap and kind of what we’ve been doing these last few races, be there at the end. We were counting on it. The track was greasy all day. There was one run there where I said it was the loosest car I’ve had all year. I imagine the 66 was fighting the same thing. It was just unfortunate the way we came together.”
