No. 32 Dollar General Chevy

Nashville Superspeedway

Nashville 300

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

· Sorenson Survives Talladega – Even though he wheeled a limping car to the checkered flag, Reed Sorenson and the No. 32 Dollar General team survived their second of three restrictor-plate races of the season with a ninth-place finish, the second consecutive top-10 for the team. Sorenson also led six laps during the event and moved solidly into fourth-place in the driver’s point standings, only 19 points behind Turner Motorsports teammate Jason Leffler.

· Sorenson at Nashville Superspeedway – Nashville is a very special place for Sorenson as it is the site of his first Nationwide Series (NNS) win which came back in 2005 during his track debut after starting from the pole position. In his six NNS starts at the 1.25-mile superspeedway, Sorenson owns three top-fives, four top-10s, one pole and 241 laps led with an average starting spot of 12.2 and an average finishing position of 9.2. Sorenson has also completed 1348 of the 1350 laps he’s attempted for a 99.9% completion rate.

· Home Track Advantage - This weekend’s Nashville 300 will be raced in the backyard of No. 32 team sponsor, Dollar General which is located just 30 miles away in nearby Goodlettsville, Tenn. On Thursday, Sorenson and fellow Turner Motorsports teammates will spend a few hours at the headquarters, visiting and spending time with employees.

· Dollar General Partners with Autism Speaks - Throughout the month of April, Dollar General is offering customers the opportunity to make donations to Autism Speaks during check-out to honor Autism Awareness month. In the first eight days of their efforts, customers contributed $496,000, which is more than was contributed throughout the entire month-long campaign last year. The Autism Speaks logo will appear on Dollar General’s NASCAR Nationwide Series No. 32 car, driven by Reed Sorenson, throughout the month of April to raise awareness for the campaign.

· Filling Up the Stands - Because the race is being run in Dollar General’s backyard, close to 1000 employees and their families will be filling the stands of Nashville Superspeedway for Saturday’s race to cheer on Sorenson and the No. 32 Dollar General team.

· Got My First Real Six String… In hopes of bringing home the custom Gibson guitar trophy on Friday night, Sorenson and his Turner Motorsports teammates will take a private tour of the Gibson Guitar Factory in Nashville on Thursday afternoon. The home of Gibson electric guitars, ‘Gibson USA’ was built in ‘Music City’ in 1974.

· This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-122 in the Nashville 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. This is the same chassis he drove to a seventh-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway just two weeks ago.

Reed Sorenson

Sorenson on a big week in Nashville:

“This is a really big week for me and this entire race team. I’m looking forward to spending the time at Dollar General headquarters because it’s nice to spend time with the employees and thank them all personally for the support they give us every week. I’m really excited to see all of them up in the stands too, cheering on this No. 32 team. I’m excited about coming back to Nashville Superspeedway as it’s the place I got my first career win. We have some really solid stats there and I’d love to get back to victory lane, especially in Dollar General’s backyard. That would truly be an awesome day.”

(November 22, 2010) – The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) traveled to Homestead, Florida this weekend for the final race of the 2010 season. Reed Sorenson and the No. 32 Dollar General team entered the weekend with high hopes for a solid finish to the year. Sorenson battled a loose-handling condition throughout the course of the 200-lap race which was plagued with 11 cautions. With hard work and perseverance, the Dollar General team brought home a 14th-place finish in the season finale and finished sixth in the NNS owner points standings.

As the sun began to lower in the Florida sky, Sorenson climbed behind the wheel of his Dollar General Toyota and prepared to start the Ford 300 from the 21st position. Within a few laps, he radioed to crew chief, Trent Owens, that the car was extremely loose. As he dove inside of the No. 6 car on lap nine, the back end of the No. 32 Camry slid sideways, evidence that he had his hands full.

“Nice save!” Owens complimented his driver. On lap 11, the first caution of the afternoon occurred. Running in the 19th spot, Sorenson took the pause in green-flag racing to report on the car’s handling.

“We are wrecking-loose right now,” he said. “I’m doing everything I can.”

“We can see it from here,” replied Owens. “Hang in there for now and we’ll get you in for adjustments on the next caution.”

Sorenson restarted the Dollar General machine from the 17th position on lap 15. He overtook the 16th spot before the next yellow flag of the day was displayed on lap 21. As the field slowed behind the pace car, he updated Owens on the car’s balance.

“We’re loose getting off of the corners,” he reported. “It’s good getting into the turns, though.”

Owens called his driver to pit road for service on lap 24. The Dollar General team quickly changed four tires, made air pressure adjustments, went two rounds down on the track bar and packed the car with fuel. With some teams choosing to take two tires or no tires on pit road, Sorenson restarted from the 18th position on lap 28.

As soon as green-flag racing resumed, Sorenson found himself engaged in a three-wide battle for position. On lap 30, a multi-car crash on the backstretch slowed the field once again. He radioed Owens that another car had made contact with the right front of the Dollar General Toyota during the last run. Owens asked spotter, Tony Hirschman, to survey the damage.

“The right front looks like it may have been kicked,” Hirschman replied. “It looks ok from here, though. Nothing is touching or rubbing the tire.”

he race resumed on lap 36 with the No. 32 restarting from the 16th position. Sorenson continued to report a loose-handling condition as he circled the track. When the yellow flag flew on lap 41 for an accident in turn two, the Dollar General Toyota was in the 15th position.

“We’re still way too loose,” Sorenson reported. “I don’t think the track bar helped it. It feels like it made it roll over more.”

“10-4,” replied Owens before instructing the Dollar General crew on what adjustments he wanted made during the next pit stop.

Sorenson drove to pit road on lap 42 for fuel and adjustments. The No. 32 crew went one round up on the track bar, made wedge adjustments on both the left and ride side and packed the car with fuel. He lined the No. 32 up in the 29th position for the restart on lap 46.

“We’re still pretty loose,” Sorenson radioed to Owens. “I just can’t get into the corner. I have to get off the gas really early just to keep from spinning.”

He continued to chip away at the field, slowly moving forward. By the time the next caution occurred on lap 60, Sorenson had driven up to the 22nd position. Owens decided to sacrifice track position and ordered his driver to pit road for more adjustments. The Dollar General crew changed four tires with air pressure adjustments, put two spring rubbers into the left rear spring and filled the car with fuel before returning him to the race track to restart from the 21st spot on lap 66.

In only a few laps, Sorenson moved inside the top-15 and was running solid lap times around the 1.5-mile track. Despite reporting that the handling was still “snappy loose,” he overtook the 14th position before NASCAR displayed the yellow flag on lap 92 for debris on the race track.

“The chassis definitely feels tighter now,” Sorenson told Owens. “The car is still pretty twitchy all the way through the corners. I just can’t turn the wheel on entry.”

Owens called Sorenson to pit road on lap 93 for service. The No. 32 crew quickly changed four tires, put more wedge into the left rear and packed the car with fuel. Their fast work gained Sorenson three positions on pit road and he lined up 11th for the restart on lap 97.

Sorenson quickly began to make his way through the field, moving inside of the top-10. The field slowed again on lap 101 for debris. He reported to Owens that the car’s handling was still twitchy but was getting a lot better. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 105 with the Dollar General Camry in the seventh position.

During the longest green-flag run of the race, Sorenson reported that he was experiencing a tight-handling condition in the exit of turn four and that he was still struggling with the entries. He had slipped back to the 11th spot when an accident in turn four brought out the next yellow flag of the evening.

Owens called Sorenson to pit road for service and adjustments on lap 136. The Dollar General crew put on four sticker tires with air pressure adjustments, put another round of wedge into the right rear and topped the car off with fuel. Another great stop by the No. 32 crew gained Sorenson four positions on pit road, putting him in the seventh spot for the restart on lap 139.

Still battling with the loose-handling car, Sorenson fell to the 11th spot before the night’s next caution.

“I’m just so loose on entry,” Sorenson radioed to Owens.

“I can see it,” replied Owens. “You’re getting run over in the corners. I want you to come in for fuel and we’ll close the right rear shock. It’s too early to take tires. We’re going to keep dropping back if we don’t work on it.”

Sorenson drove to pit road on lap 150 and the No. 32 crew quickly serviced the car per Owens’ orders. The race resumed on lap 157 with the Dollar General Camry restarting from the 17th spot.

An accident in turn three halted the green-flag racing on lap 162. The following lap, Owens quickly called Sorenson to pit road. “Let’s put four cold tires on and get a couple more spring rubbers in there.”

Restarting from the 24th position on lap 167, Sorenson immediately went to work to move back through the field. He was driving the Dollar General machine in the 17th position when the final caution of the night was displayed for an accident on the backstretch on lap 173. The race restarted on lap 178 with the No. 32 in the 14th spot.

Reed Sorenson

In the closing laps, Sorenson slipped back to 17th but then battled back to take the final checkered flag of the 2010 season in the 14th position. The Dollar General team closed the season with 12 top-five and 28 top-10 finishes and took sixth-place honors in the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series owner points standings.

“Trent Owens and the Dollar General team did a great job tonight,” said Sorenson following the race. “They worked hard to adjust on the car all night and the over the wall guys were on their game, gaining spots on almost every pit stop. It has been a great year with this team and I know we are all very excited to get back on track at Daytona in February. I want to thank everyone for their hard work all year and Dollar General for all of their support. I look forward to representing them again and running for the 2011 driver championship!”

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series will return to action in February, 2011 at Daytona International Speedway. Next year, teams will compete in all 34 races with the series’ “new car.”

(eighth), Leffler (ninth), Wallace (10th), Gaughan (11th), Sorenson (12th), Annett (13th) and Scott (14th).

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 1st

Can you describe what it means to you to earn your second win and owner’s championship this weekend at Homestead?

“You don’t right now. You just come out here and enjoy it. All of these guys from Joe Gibbs Racing, everybody from Z-Line Designs — Jim and Monica (Sexton, Z-Line Design owners) are here to help us celebrate. This Toyota was fast, man. I just can’t thank these guys enough. They do a great job at Joe Gibbs Racing — the chassis shop, the body shop, everybody. They put it all together for us in these last three seasons. It’s a shame to see this car go, but we’ve got a new priority here next year. It will be fun. It will be a new challenge for us. I can’t thank NOS Energy Drink enough, Combos, M&M’s, Interstate Batteries, Nationwide Insurance for a great series. This has been so much fun. It’s been cool to come out here and enjoy and celebrate with all of these guys. They deserve to celebrate as much as anybody. I can’t thank the fans enough of course.”

What happened on the last pass for the lead?

“It was a battle. Kevin (Harvick) was a great race tonight and he had a great race car. I just can’t thank these guys at Joe Gibbs Racing enough — the engine shop, the chassis, bodies, everybody that builds these race cars. All of the guys that are standing here behind me that come out here and pit these things. They do a wonderful job and they deserve to celebrate and they deserve to celebrate long and hard for this one. Being the owner’s champion is really special to us. That’s what we set out to do at the beginning of the year. A great race out there. (Kevin) Harvick was strong and I just got a good restart there on that last one. I had to work for it, it wasn’t easy. I started getting tight there at the end of the race, but I had just enough there to beat him out.”

Would you have thought you would win 13 races in 2010 at the beginning of this year?

“I would’ve said I wish. I thought eight or nine (wins) is doable, but 13 that’s really hard to do. I couldn’t do it without all of these guys. I’m going to be selfish and say that I wish we had 15, you know, because I feel that we could’ve won that many this year. We’ve had a few taken away from us, but it wasn’t due to lack of effort. These guys gave it their all. Now we can go to the banquet on Monday night and have a really good party with all of us on stage too.”

Do you think you win tomorrow’s Cup race and sweep all three races this weekend?

“The Cup car is pretty good. I like it. Dave (Rogers, crew chief) has done a really nice job. It’s just going to be all about
patience and coming through the heat of the day. We’re going to have a lot of sun out there tomorrow and it’s going to be hot and it’s going to be slick so you’ve got to have a car that definitely handles well at the beginning of the run, but one that definitely handles well at the end of the run as well.”

J.D. GIBBS, president, Joe Gibbs Racing

How much does it mean to your organization to win another owner’s championship?

“It’s a huge deal for us. You kind of look back, and we started it in the first year with Bobby Labonte. All we learned over the years was what not to do and what to do. Watching Kyle (Busch) and Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and those guys coming together, and Brad (Coleman) in there as well, it’s just a blessing for us.”

JOE GIBBS, team owner, Joe Gibbs Racing

How exciting is this for your organization to win its third straight owner’s championship?

“We’re thrilled. I think that’s been well documented. Our struggles the first years in Nationwide Series and how hard it was for us. I really appreciate Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief), the team here, Brad (Coleman) — Safeway Driving Schools. I also want to say thanks to Combos, Interstate Batteries and NOS. It’s really hard to put together a team like that to allow us to race in the Nationwide Series. But with Kyle (Busch), we really appreciate it. We’re thrilled to be a part of it. J.D. (Gibbs, Joe Gibbs Racing president) works mostly on the Nationwide side, and I take the credit for it. In any case, it’s a thrill for us and I appreciate it. One thing I left out front, too, is Toyota. I really want to make sure that the championship there and what they’ve done for us, we couldn’t be up here if it wasn’t for Toyota. I really appreciate them.”

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

How exciting is it for your team to win another owner’s championship and end the season with a win?

“It was obviously a tremendous blessing for us to have the opportunity to be close to winning another owner’s championship with Kyle (Busch) and Brad (Coleman) this year in the car, both of them did an outstanding job. Last week, we felt like we had a pretty good — as far as the point’s lead goes last week — we had some trouble at Phoenix, kind of like we did last year. So it’s very gratifying to come into Homestead and have the kind of run that we had tonight. We were able to close the deal. The guys again did a great job on pit road. The guys, the mechanics that turned the wrench on this car, they did a great job preparing it at the shop. Lot of effort went into this car this week, lot of studying, lot of notes, and it paid off for us in the end.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop / MASTIFF Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 7th

How was your race today?

“We ran eighth or ninth all day. The car went from too loose and can’t drive the thing to being so tight that you can’t go
anywhere. We were at both ends of the spectrum today and didn’t go anywhere. It’s disappointing to end the season that way.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 Aspen Dental Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 8th

JASON LEFFLER, No. 10 ABF U-Pack Moving Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 10th

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Diamond Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 12th

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 14th

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 15th

DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 11 Rexall / Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 16th

COLE WHITT, No. 84 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team

Finishing Position: 17th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 09 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, RAB Racing

Finishing Position: 18th

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 Germain.com Toyota Camry, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 24th

KASEY KAHNE, No. 38 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 38th

What happened to take you out of the race?

“It looks like (Justin) Allgaier just lost it to me. I’ve been in a couple of his wrecks this year as far as the Nationwide side goes. I passed the 99 (Martin Truex Jr.) on entry and I was passing the 22 (Brad Keselowski) and I was on the inside so I went left. I wish I would’ve went right — I probably could’ve missed it. It was just a bad decision or the track was kind of blocked out. Our Great Clips car was fast and I think we were going forward. It’s just kind of discouraging that our race is over.”

KEVIN LEPAGE, No. 56 Sunshine Plumbing / Mitchell Swaback Charities Toyota Camry, Mac Hill Motorsports

November 20, 2010

Notes of Interest:

· Reed Sorenson returns to Homestead-Miami Speedway with the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) for the first time since 2006! In his three previous starts at the 1.5-mile speedway, he has one top-five finish. Both his best start of seventh and his best finish of fourth came in his NNS debut at the track on November 20, 2004 – six years ago from this Saturday’s date!

· Sorenson and Turner Motorsports teammate, Jason Leffler, to participate in the NASCAR Championship Drive! Sorenson and Leffler will participate in driver Q&A and sign autographs for fans on Thursday, November 18 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. ET. The two-day fan festival will take place in Miami’s South Beach. Included in the festivities will be a grand-arrival parade of NASCAR race team “haulers” convoying on Miami Beach to kick off the free two-day fan fest and concert. The award-winning Zac Brown Band will perform on Miami Beach at Lummus Park (between 7th and 9th streets) at 7:00 p.m.

· Turner Motorsports 2011 plans announced… Recently, Turner Motorsports announced that its driver line-up for the 2011 season will include the return of a number of familiar faces such as Kasey Kahne, Reed Sorenson, Jason Leffler, James Buescher, Ricky Carmichael and USAC superstar, Brad Sweet. The team has also added NASCAR Nationwide Series standout, Justin Allgaier, to their stable of drivers. Turner Motorsports will continue their relationship with General Motors and the Chevrolet brand and has created alliances with Hendrick Motorsports, who will provide engine support for both its NNS and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) programs, Kevin Harvick Inc. for body and aero support, and Earnhardt Technology Group for drive train and suspension technology assistance. The team will field three full-time entries in both the NCWTS and NNS.

· Chassis #45 heads to the Sunshine State! The Dollar General team will unload chassis #045 this weekend at Homestead. This chassis was last raced at Iowa Speedway in July, where Sorenson fell victim to a blown right front tire that ended the Dollar General team’s day early. The car previously saw track time this season at Nashville Superspeedway in June, 2010, where he finished seventh. The car made its debut in the previous visit to Nashville (April, 2010) where he drove it to a second-place finish! Sorenson has been the only driver to pilot chassis #45.

· The No. 32 Dollar General team is currently SIXTH in the NNS owner’s point standings while driver, Reed Sorenson, sits 12th in the driver championship point standings with only 27 starts!

“Homestead is a lot of fun to race at. Honestly though, heading into this weekend I’m already thinking about Daytona and the 2011 season. Everyone at Turner Motorsports has set their goals high and we are already starting to work towards them — building a fleet of the series’ ‘new cars.’ When we hit the track in 2011, we will all be ready for a great year and I am personally looking forward to battling for the driver championship.”

Sorenson on heading to Homestead with the Dollar General team for the first time:

“This will be my first time at Homestead with the Dollar General team. We’ve been a competitive team this year, getting consistent top-five and top-10 finishes. We just keep missing that win. I think we are really clicking as a team. We have good momentum going into Homestead with five consecutive top-10’s behind us. I think this weekend we’ll have another solid performance and hopefully, end the year with a win!”

(November 15, 2010) – Reed Sorenson and the Dollar General team traveled to Avondale, Ariz. for their second visit of 2010 at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR). Confident that he had a car capable of winning Saturday’s WYPALL 200, Sorenson’s charge to the front was slowed in the final laps when the power steering locked up. Despite having to strong-arm the car around the one-mile track, he brought home a fifth-place finish in the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota.

On Saturday afternoon, Sorenson climbed behind the wheel of his Dollar General Toyota and prepared for 200 laps of exciting racing at PIR. Starting from the 14th position when the green flag dropped, he immediately went to work, advancing the No. 32 inside the top-10 by lap 19. On lap 22, the first caution of the afternoon occurred. Running in the 10th spot, Sorenson took the pause in green-flag racing to report on the car’s handling to his crew chief, Trent Owens.

“The left front is popping over a lot more than during yesterday’s practice,” Sorenson said. “I don’t have much front grip right now, either.”

Owens called his driver to pit road for service on lap 24. The Dollar General team quickly changed four tires, made air pressure adjustments, went one-half round down on the track bar and packed the car with fuel. Their fast service gained Sorenson a position on pit road; however, with five teams opting not to come to pit road, Sorenson restarted from the 14th position on lap 30.

In only a few laps, Sorenson was back inside the top-10 and running the fastest lap times around the one-mile track. He continued to climb through the field, overtaking the sixth position by lap 39. As he circled the track, he updated Owens on the car’s balance on lap 53.

“We lose front grip as we go,” Sorenson said. He then asked, “Did you put a spring rubber in the left rear?”

“Yes,” confirmed Owens. “Not during the pit stop, but this morning before qualifying.”

“I think that might be why the left side feels a little funny,” Sorenson said. “It feels like it’s lifting the car a bit. That track bar adjustment helped the back of the car. It feels better now.”

The second yellow flag of the afternoon was displayed by NASCAR for debris on the race track on lap 62.

“We’re a little tight in the center and free on exit,” Sorenson reported to the team. “Also, we might have some trash on the grill. We’re spitting a little water.”

“10-4,” replied Owens before instructing the Dollar General crew on what adjustments he wanted made during the next pit stop.

Sorenson brought the No. 32 Toyota to pit road on lap 64. The No. 32 crew quickly changed four tires, made a track bar adjustment, removed the spring rubber from the left rear spring and packed the car with fuel. Sorenson lined the No. 32 up in the eighth position for the restart when green-flag racing resumed on lap 69.

“The balance in the front feels better,” he said. “We just need a little more rear grip.”

Sorenson continued to turn some of the fastest laps on the track, moving up to the seventh position on lap 69.

An accident in turn two on lap 117 brought out the next caution of the day.

“We’re good,” Sorenson told Owens. “We just need more rear grip.”

Owens asked if it was a right rear slide or if the entire rear of the car was off-balance.

“The right rear is sliding,” replied Sorenson. “The front felt good until the very end of the run, then it started to go away.”

Owens called his driver to pit road on lap 118 for service and adjustments. The Dollar General crew quickly changed four tires with an air pressure adjustment to the right rear, went one-half round down on the track bar and filled the car with Sunoco fuel. Sorenson returned to the track and restarted from the eighth spot on lap 122.

Sorenson immediately reported to Owens that the car’s handling had changed drastically. “It feels like a completely different car right now. We’re dumping over on the right rear and have a bad chatter into turn one.”

When the final caution of the day was displayed on lap 139 for debris, Owens continued to coach his driver, who had slipped back to the 10th spot on the last run.

“Nothing we adjusted on the car would have changed the handling that much,” he told Sorenson. “I don’t think we should sacrifice the track position right now and come to pit road.”

The race returned to green-flag conditions on lap 144 with the Dollar General Toyota in the 10th position. Despite reporting that he was still wrestling with no front or rear grip, Sorenson drove up to the seventh position by lap 161. He overtook the fifth spot and was gaining on the fourth-place car when he reported that the power steering had locked up with 10 laps remaining in the race. Sorenson continued to wrestle the car around the track and when the checkered flag flew, the Dollar General Toyota was in the fifth position. He climbed from the car, rubbing his right arm and exclaimed he was glad he only had to drive it without the power steering for 10 laps!

Reed Sorenson

“The Dollar General Toyota was really fast today,” said Sorenson following the race. “The sun out here is pretty brutal and the track was slick. We were able to adjust the car well, but we think we had a problem with the last set of tires we put on the car. The handling changed a lot in that last run. We just did the best we could from there. We got up to fifth and were gaining on the No. 22 when the power steering went out.

That was not fun, I can tell you that! It was hard to run fast laps like that. I was able to maintain where we were, but it hurt us there at the end. Other than that, the Dollar General team did great. It was a great day for us with another top-five finish. We are getting close to getting the car where we can win a race; we just didn’t get up to the front fast enough today. All in all it was a great day for the Dollar General Camry!”

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series teams will make its final stop of the 2010 season next weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Saturday afternoon race will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN2 and on MRN Radio affiliates. LIVE coverage begins at 4:00 p.m. EST with the green flag scheduled to drop at 4:30 p.m.

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Phoenix International Raceway – November 13, 2010

- Joey Logano (third) was the highest finishing Camry driver in Saturday’s 200-lap NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS)
race at Phoenix International Raceway.

- Logano started from the pole position and led the first 23 (of 200) laps in the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) No. 20 GameStop
Camry.

- Reed Sorenson (fifth) and Steve Wallace (10th) also earned top-10 results for Toyota at the one-mile track.
Other Toyota drivers in the field included Brian Scott (11th), Cole Whitt (15th), Kyle Busch (16th), Michael Annett
(18th), Ricky Carmichael (21st), James Buescher (22nd), Ryan Truex (23rd), Brendan Gaughan (27th), Jason Leffler
(33rd) and Martin Truex Jr. (34th).

- Eight Toyota drivers are in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS driver points following Phoenix — Busch (third), Logano
(seventh), Wallace (ninth), Leffler (10th), Gaughan (11th), Sorenson (12th), Annett (13th) and Scott (14th).

- The JGR No. 18 Camry, primarily driven by Busch, currently leads the unofficial NNS owner’s point standings — holding
a 41-point lead with one race remaining in the 2010 season.

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 3rd

How was your race?

“It was so-so, I guess. You know at the beginning of the race we were okay. We led some laps from the take off but we weren’t — I knew Carl (Edwards) was definitely faster than the 12 (Justin Allgaier) at the beginning of the race. We made little adjustments here and there. We got the balance better but I didn’t feel like we got any faster. I don’t know. We had a decent run in the GameStop Toyota, just thought we were going to be better than that after practice. Carl (Edwards) had his car hooked up today, we had nothing for him. I don’t think anyone had anything for him, he was pretty fast.”

Where did you lose ground on Carl Edwards?

“Everywhere, he basically had that thing hooked up pretty good. Down there in (turns) one and two you’re tight in the center and loose off the corner. He (Carl Edwards) looked like he was a little bit better than me in the center and off the corner he was every bit as good as I was. He just had that little bit there in the center and in (turns) three and four he just carried more speed all the way through the corner. Just a little bit faster than us. One to go, we’re going to go to Homestead and win.”

Are you satisfied with a third-place finish at Phoenix?

“We worked on our car and got it better on the short run but not as fast as the 60, Carl (Edwards) was just really fast. We did everything we could to get ourselves better, but didn’t have the speed that we needed to. We were a little bit short, I don’t know. I go into this place, one of my favorite race tracks and you expect to be up there with a shot to win. We were close, we just needed a little more speed. The last 15 laps we were as fast as he was. Overall, we had the pole today, I thought we were going to have a shot at winning it but came up a little bit short. We’ll go to Homestead and try to get one more win there.”

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 5th

Did the sun play a role in today’s race?

“It just made it slick. The sun out here is pretty brutal, it gets the track hot and slick. We had more of a difference between sets of tires than really the track changing — that’s what we were dealing with.”

Was it hard to maneuver your car after the power steering went out?

“It wasn’t fun, I don’t want to do it again, I can tell you that. We were actually catching the 22 (Brad Keselowski) and were pretty fast. I went left and the car just went straight, I couldn’t turn the wheel and it was the power steering. To finish a race like that, it wasn’t very fun. It was hard to run fast laps like that. I was able to kind of maintain on the guys behind us, but it kind of hurt us there at the end. Other than that, the Dollar General team did great. It was a great day for us with another top – five. We were getting close to getting the car where we can win a race, we just didn’t get up there fast enough. All in all it was a great day for the Dollar General Camry.”

STEVE WALLACE, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing
Finishing Position: 10th

BRIAN SCOTT, No. 09 Shore Lodge Toyota Camry, RAB Racing

Finishing Position: 11th

COLE WHITT, No. 84 Red Bull Toyota Camry, Red Bull Racing Team

Finishing Position: 15th

How was your first Nationwide Series race?

“I think it work out pretty good. We come here to run top-15, and we ended up 15th. It was good. It’s what we wanted. We obviously didn’t get the qualifying run we wanted and that made it tough for us to come forward. The pit crew was on all day. We really made up some spots here on pit road. We made some up on the track, too. We raced with some big names and I think we learned a lot. And, if I just get some more chances I think I can really run good in the series. I think everything went pretty good.”

How much did you learn in today’s race?

“I learned a lot lap-by-lap. It was so hard to — I just kept making mistakes because it was my first time out there. I’d make a mistake. Every time was different. We had a couple of short runs and then the long run at the end that we didn’t expect. Our car just got away from us and I kind of drove it pretty hard and maybe wore out the tires too much. A little bit of everything. I think we had a really good car and if we could have had a pit stop there at the end I think we could have come back and got close to the top-10. All in all it was a good day.”

Did anything surprise you today?

“A lot. Like I said, it’s just a big learning curve. Once I kind of started figuring it out it was time to learn something new. It was trying to learn something to use it later in the race and it really didn’t work because later in the race is different than the beginning. I need some seat time to figure it out, but I think I can.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 NOS Energy Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 16th

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 NOS Energy Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What type of tire problem did you have late in the race?

“We must have run over something. It was after the last caution. Before that I thought we were making good gains on the car. It was getting closer to the 60 (Carl Edwards). We still didn’t have what we needed to race the 60, but after 40 laps on some of the previous runs our lap times — we were able to close in on him just a little bit. It would have been nice to see what would have happened there if we didn’t have that problem. But, we must have run over something and then whatever we ran over must have knocked a belt off the rear end and the rear end got hot. So, that didn’t help us any either.”

What do you think of today’s results make the owner’s point standings closer?

“It’s going to make it exciting. You hate that it comes down to something like that. We got one more race to go and all we got to do is be one point ahead.”

MICHAEL ANNETT, No. 15 Pilot Flying J Coffee Toyota Camry, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 18th

RICKY CARMICHAEL, No. 10 Monster Energy Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 21st

JAMES BUESCHER, No. 11 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 22nd

RYAN TRUEX, No. 99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota Camry, Diamond Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 23rd

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 Alliance Parts Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finishing Position: 27th

JASON LEFFLER, No. 38 Great Clips Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finishing Position: 33rd

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 00 Travis Pastrana Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing

Finishing Position: 34th

What happened to take your car out of the race?

“I’m not real sure what happened there — something broke on the race car. Just a tough day, we had a decent car throughout practice and made some changes last night and just went the wrong way with the car. The car got really, really tight and we were falling back then we got run into and got our fender bent — that made it worse. I’m not sure what happened right there with the spin and the wreck. The car just spun out and out of the blue. I’d been really tight and it just spun out, I’m not sure what happened. We’ll look into it but it’s a tough day for all these guys, it’s very frustrating. We’ve had some really good runs in this car this year and today we were just way off. It was a rather frustrating day.”

Notes of Interest:

· Reed Sorenson is set to make his seventh NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR). In his six previous starts, he has started in the top-10 three times. He has two top-five and four top-10 finishes, with his best finish of second coming in April, 2006. He has an average starting position of 10.5 and an average finishing position of 10.7 at the one-mile track.

· By the numbers at PIR! Sorenson ranks in the top-10 in several Loop Data categories. These categories include: Average Running Position (10th), Fastest Drivers Early in a Run (9th), Laps in the Top-15 (9th), Passes in Turn Three (6th) and Quality Passes (7th).

· Turner Motorsports 2011 plans announced… Last weekend, Turner Motorsports announced that its driver line-up for the 2011 season will include the return of a number of familiar faces such as Kasey Kahne, Reed Sorenson, Jason Leffler, James Buescher, Ricky Carmichael and USAC superstar, Brad Sweet. The team has also added NASCAR Nationwide Series standout, Justin Allgaier, to their stable of drivers. Turner Motorsports will continue their relationship with General Motors and the Chevrolet brand and has created alliances with Hendrick Motorsports, who will provide engine support for both its NNS and NCWTS programs, Kevin Harvick Inc. for body and aero support, and Earnhardt Technology Group for drive train and suspension technology assistance. The team will field three full-time entries in both the NCWTS and NNS.

· Chassis #43 celebrates its one year birthday at PIR! The Dollar General team will unload chassis #043 this weekend at Phoenix. The car made its track debut in November, 2009 at PIR where Sorenson started ninth and finished third. This chassis was last raced at Gateway International Raceway in July, where it finished second. It previously saw track time this season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in June (eighth), Richmond in April (eighth) and Phoenix in April (12th).
“Phoenix is a lot of fun to race at. It’s fast and flat, and there is usually a lot of excitement when an accident happens. It definitely keeps a driver on his toes. I think the key to running well here begins with starting as close to the front as possible.”

Sorenson on returning to Phoenix with the Dollar General team:

“The Dollar General team and I had a really good run here last fall. We ran the same car then that we’re bringing this weekend. That race, it handled nearly perfect. With two races left in the season, I think we are really clicking as a team. We have a lot of momentum going into Phoenix and I think this weekend we’ll have another solid performance and hopefully, bring home a win!”

Sorenson on returning to Turner Motorsports for 2011:

“Last week we announced that I’ll be returning to Turner Motorsports next year. I’m really excited to be back and can’t wait to run for the 2011 Nationwide Series Driver Championship. With the tools that Mr. Turner has put into place for next year, I think all of the Turner teams will be really strong and able to contend for the win every week. The Nationwide Series is going to be a lot of fun to drive in next year. I think the level of competition will be very high and you should see a lot of exciting races.”

He has twice scored his best finish of third at the 1.5-mile track: first in his NNS debut in Ft. Worth on April 16, 2005 and second, when the NNS last visited the speedway in April, 2010.

The announcement will include driver and sponsor line-up as well as manufacturer and engine supplier details. The press conference will take place in the Victory Theater at the TMS Media Center.

· Chassis #40 returns to Texas! The Dollar General team will unload chassis #040 this weekend at TMS. This chassis was last seen on track at Dover International Speedway (September, 2010), where Sorenson drove it to a fourth-place finish.
“Texas Motor Speedway is a wide track with multiple grooves that allows you to move your car around to find where it works the best. The biggest thing at Texas is to still be there at the end of the race. It’s a fast track and the racing is bumper-to-bumper, so staying out of trouble is the key. You can be sure that the racing will get dicey in the final laps as everyone who stayed clean all race, tries to get the win.”

Sorenson on returning to Texas with the Dollar General team:

“As we’re winding down the season, I think as a team, we are working well together. Our communication is good and our pit crew is consistent. I’m looking forward to heading back to Texas with these guys. We had a solid Nationwide Series car there in April and we’re bringing that same one back this weekend. We’ve had a lot of success with this particular car. It has become ‘old reliable’ in our stable of Dollar General Toyotas so hopefully we can put it into Victory Lane this weekend before these cars become obsolete next year as we start racing the ‘New Car’ full-time.”

(October 25, 2010) – The NASCAR Nationwide Series traveled to Gateway International Raceway (GIR) this weekend for the series’ historic final visit to the Madison, Ill. track. With a proven track record at the 1.25-mile raceway, Reed Sorenson and the No. 32 team were confident as they entered the weekend. While the third-fastest car on the speed charts in final practice, the No. 32 Toyota made contact with the outside wall in turn three and the team was forced to unload the back up. Sorenson and the Dollar General team fought relentlessly throughout the afternoon, battling in the closing laps for the win before taking the checkered flag in the sixth position.

Unable to make any laps before Friday’s final practice session was over, the team headed into Saturday’s qualifying not knowing what to expect. Sorenson turned a solid qualifying lap, reporting to crew chief, Trent Owens, that the car’s handling was just a little tight. The 33.557-second lap placed him in the 10th position to start the 5-Hour Energy 250. When the green flag dropped on the Saturday afternoon event at GIR, Sorenson quickly moved forward through the field. By lap five, he was running in the fifth position. As he circled the track, he was able to give Owens feedback on the car’s handling.

“The front end is hitting both springs too hard,” Sorenson commented over the radio. “I’m bouncing all over the place. It feels like the car is sitting up too high and has no front grip.”

As the green-flag racing continued, he continued to battle for position, slipping back to the 10th spot by lap 31.

“It feels like the left front is hitting a little harder than the right front,” Sorenson updated Owens. “The car’s balance is tightening up. It gets a lot tighter as we go.”

On lap 37, Owens told his driver that they were looking to pit on lap 57.

“Ok,” replied Sorenson. “It’s going to be close. We might blow the right front tire before then.”

The first caution of the day came on lap 47, giving the No. 32 team the opportunity they needed to come to pit road. On lap 48, Owens called his driver in and ordered a number of adjustments by the Dollar General crew. The team quickly changed four tires, made air pressure and wedge adjustments, removed two spring rubbers from the left front and put one spring rubber into the right rear in an effort to improve the car’s handling.

Packed with fuel, Sorenson returned to the race track and lined the Dollar General Toyota up in the 21st position for the restart on lap 52. He quickly drove into the top-15 by lap 56 but reported to Owens that the car’s handling remained tight and that the front end was continuing to bounce.

“We started out about 20% better than the first run, but it went back to as bad as it was before,” Sorenson told the team on lap 61. Despite the challenges, he advanced up to the 12th spot.

“I can get through turns one and two ok, but three and four feel pretty rough,” he told Owens. “Do we have any other ideas for adjustments?”

“I’m working on that now,” Owens reassured him.

An accident in turn two brought out the next yellow flag on lap 75, providing the Dollar General team the needed opportunity to return to pit road for additional adjustments. Owens called for a four-tire stop, a spring rubber to be removed from the left rear and track bar and wedge adjustments. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 80 with the No. 32 Camry in the 16th position. Sorenson drove inside the top-10 before the caution flag was displayed only three laps later when the No. 62 made contact with the outside wall between turns three and four.

“That was a lot better that time,” he told Owens. “We just need more.”

Owens called him back to pit road when it opened on lap 83. As Sorenson drove the Dollar General Toyota to his pit stall, they discussed the option of taking tires or just making adjustments.

“Leave this set of tires on the car,” Owens ordered the crew. “I want one round of wedge out of the left rear and adjust the right front shock.”

When the race resumed on lap 87, the Dollar General Toyota was in the 25th position. Sorenson quickly drove up through the field and was running inside the top-15 by lap 94. Contact with another car sent the No. 88 spinning through turns three and four and brought out the fourth caution of the afternoon.

On lap 96, Owens called his driver to pit road for service. The Dollar General crew quickly changed four tires, made an air pressure adjustment, went two rounds up on the track bar, put a spring rubber into the right rear and packed the car with fuel before sending the Camry back to the track to restart from the 20th spot on lap 101.

Sorenson quickly went to work, picking off positions and overtaking 13th before a multicar crash left the front stretch littered with wreckage. NASCAR officials halted the field with the red flag as crews worked to clean up the debris.

“The car doesn’t feel like it sits any higher now than the primary car did,” Sorenson told the team as he sat parked on the track. “Now it just feels like it is hitting the springs hard.”

In just over 20 minutes, NASCAR displayed the yellow flag and the cars began to circle the track once again. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 108 with the Dollar General Toyota restarting in the 13th position. Sorenson picked off positions, one by one, moving inside the top-10 by lap 112 and up to the sixth spot by lap 138. Throughout the green-flag run, it was discovered that Sorenson was unable to be heard by the team over the radio. He was forced to communicate using hand signals for the remainder of the race.

On lap 144, the leaders began to come to pit road for green-flag stops. On a slightly different pit cycle, Sorenson took over the lead on lap 157. He remained there until coming to pit road for fresh tires and adjustments on lap 161. The Dollar General team quickly changed the four tires, added fuel, made a track bar adjustment and put another spring rubber into the right rear. As the field cycled through the green-flag stops, the Dollar General Toyota was running in the fifth position on lap 191 when the caution flag was displayed once again.

With no remaining sets of fresh tires, Owens told his driver that they would not be pitting. The leaders came to pit road, putting the Dollar General Toyota at the front of the field for the restart on lap 197. In a final, mad dash for the checkered flag, Sorenson battled fiercely to retain the lead. Racing fender to fender with teammate, Jason Leffler, and other drivers with fresher tires, Sorenson wrestled his way around the track, almost wrecking in the turns. Shuffled back, he took the checkered flag in the sixth position.

Reed Sorenson

“I really thought we had a chance there,” Sorenson said as he caught his breath after the race. “This back-up car didn’t see the track until our qualifying lap this morning. After qualifying 10th, I thought we’d be good but we fought a bad front-end bounce and a tight condition all race. The Dollar General guys never gave up and made a ton of adjustments every time we had the chance to get to pit road. I couldn’t talk to the team at least the last 50 laps or so because something was wrong with my radio. Those last four laps I just drove it as hard as I could, but I couldn’t be as aggressive as I needed to be to hold the lead because of our older tires. It was a long and challenging day but everyone on this team fought hard for this top-10.”

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series teams will enjoy a weekend off before travelling to Texas Motor Speedway in two weeks. The O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge will be broadcast LIVE on Saturday, November 6th on ESPN2 and on MRN Radio affiliates. LIVE coverage begins at 12:00 p.m. EST with the green flag scheduled to drop at 1:00 p.m.

Notes of Interest:

Where it all began…Reed Sorenson returns to the site of his debut with the No. 32 Dollar General team…Gateway International Raceway (GIR)! Last season, he joined forces with crew chief, Trent Owens, and the Dollar General team to start second and finish second at GIR in his first appearance behind the wheel of the No. 32 Toyota Camry. The team returned in July (2010) and earned another runner-up finish after starting from the 13th position.

A two-time NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) winner at GIR, Sorenson knows how to get around the1.25-mile track! Sorenson has six previous NNS starts at GIR. He has two wins (2005 & 2007), five top-five finishes and a whopping 155 laps led. His qualifying record isn’t too shabby either. He has started on the outside pole four times! In 2009, Sorenson tied for the pole position and track record. The honors, however, were awarded to the No. 88 team which was higher in owner’s points.

By the Numbers at Gateway! Sorenson ranks in the top-10 in several of NASCAR’s Loop Data categories. These categories include: Average Running Position (7th), Closers (2nd), Driver Rating (4th), Fastest Drivers Early in a Run (5th), Fastest Drivers Late in a Run (5th), Fastest Laps Run (2nd), Fastest on Restarts (4th), Green Flag Passes (2nd), Green Flag Speed (4th), Laps in Top-15 (2nd), Laps Led (2nd), Passes on Frontstretch (3rd), Passes on Backstretch (3rd), Passes in Turns 1 and 2 (2nd), Turn 3 (6th), Turn 4 (1st), Quality Passes (5th) and Speed in Traffic (2nd).

The Dollar General team heads to the Madison, IL-based track with chassis #043. This weekend, the Dollar General team heads to Gateway with chassis #43. This chassis was last seen on track at GIR in July, when Sorenson started 13th and finished second. It previously saw track time at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in June, when the Dollar General team brought home an eighth-place finish. The car made its track debut in November, 2009 at Phoenix International Raceway. Sorenson has been the only driver to pilot chassis #43.

Braun Racing acquired by Turner Motorsports… Recently, it was announced that Turner Motorsports acquired select assets of Braun Racing. The team will continue to operate as Braun Racing for the remainder of the 2010 season. Plans for Turner Motorsports in 2011 include fielding three entries in both the Camping World Truck Series and the Nationwide Series. The NNS driver lineup will be announced in October.

The Dollar General team rolls into Charlotte SIXTH in the Nationwide Series Championship Owner’s Points.

Sorenson on driving at Gateway International Raceway:

“I grew up racing on short tracks and although Gateway isn’t necessarily a short track, it’s a fast track for as flat as it is. Gateway just seemed to fit my driving style the first time I raced there in 2005 and it’s been good to me since. You definitely have to use some finesse when you are driving this track. You can’t overdrive it. You’re out of the gas for a long time. I tend to like tracks where you have to get your braking right on entry, where you have to brake hard and have your car free enough to come off the corners as well.”

Sorenson on racing at Gateway for the last time:

“When we left Gateway in July with another second-place finish, we were already counting down the races until we came back. The win here keeps getting away and this Dollar General team is hungry to get it. At the time, it wasn’t announced yet that this was the last year NASCAR would be racing at Gateway. It’s unfortunate because this is a fun track to race at. It will definitely be a bittersweet weekend and will be sad to see the haulers load up and pull out for the last time. The fans have always been very supportive here. Thank you to all of them who came out to see us race all these years.”

CONCORD, N.C. (October 18, 2010) – It was a different look this weekend for Reed Sorenson and the Dollar General Toyota at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS). Trading in its traditional black and yellow colors, the No. 32 Camry sported a special pink paint scheme to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Also highlighting Friday night’s spectacle under the lights was the fourth and final appearance of the Nationwide Series “new car.” Sorenson powered the No. 32 Toyota to a seventh-place finish, his 18th top-10 in 23 starts with the Dollar General team.

Armed only with the data from the “new car’s” performance at Daytona International Speedway in July, Michigan International Speedway in August and Richmond International Raceway in September, the Dollar General team was confident as they unloaded the No. 32 Toyota on Wednesday morning. As Sorenson turned laps around the 1.5-mile track during the Wednesday and Thursday practice sessions, the team continued to make adjustments on the car, learning with each change, how the new car would react. Sorenson turned a solid qualifying lap on Friday afternoon, reporting to crew chief, Trent Owens, that the car’s handling was just a little loose. The 29.953-second lap placed him in the seventh position to start the Dollar General 300.

When the green flag dropped on the Friday night event at CMS, Sorenson found himself in the slower of the two lanes of cars. When first yellow flag of the night was displayed on lap two for an accident in turn four, he found himself in the 10th position.

“We got hung up in that bottom line on the start,” Sorenson commented over the radio.

“10-4,” replied crew chief, Trent Owens. “You should have a better line for this restart.”

Green-flag racing resumed on lap six and as cars continued to battle for territory on the race track, Sorenson fought to maintain the 10th spot. A multi-car accident in turn two brought out the second caution of the race. AS the field slowed behind the pace car, he took the opportunity to update Owens on the car’s handling.

“We’re a little free,” he said. “It feels like it did during practice.”

The No. 32 car restarted from the 10th position on lap 16. By lap 37, Sorenson had climbed up to the eighth spot; however, he informed Owens that the car’s balance was still too loose.

“We are still sliding a good bit,” he said. “The back does get a lot better as we go, but overall we are just way too loose.”

On lap 52, the leaders began to come to pit road for green-flag stops. Sorenson followed suit and came to pit road for fresh tires and adjustments on lap 55. The Dollar General team quickly changed the four tires, added fuel, went a half of a round down on the track bar and made air pressure adjustments. As the field cycled through the green-flag stops, the Dollar General Toyota was running in the 11th position on lap 64 when the caution flag was displayed once again.

“We’re not any tighter,” Sorenson told his crew chief. “The back end is all over the place. I think we need to put the track bar back in and try something different.”

“10-4,” replied Owens. “We’ll work on a plan for our next stop.”

Because the cars that did not complete green-flag pit stops came in for service during the caution, Sorenson lined the Dollar General Toyota up in the eighth position for the restart on lap 71.

Sorenson quickly overtook the seventh spot but the green-flag run was short lived. On lap 72, an accident in turn two slowed the field for the fourth time. Racing resumed on lap 77 and the No. 32 Camry moved into the sixth position on the following lap.

The green-flag run was interrupted a short time later, when NASCAR officials displayed the yellow flag on lap 81 for debris on the race track.

“Darn!” exclaimed Sorenson. “We needed that to stay green. We actually had some momentum there. The car seemed a little tighter that time.”

“I agree,” Owens said. “We’re going to stay out here.”

When the race returned to green-flag conditions on lap 86, the Dollar General Toyota was in the sixth position.

Sorenson drove up to the fifth spot, but then began to slide backwards through the field. On lap 92, the Dollar General car was in the tenth position. Sorenson keyed the radio and updated his team on the car’s condition.

“The rear is as bad as the front now,” he said. “We’re sliding all over the place. I don’t have enough rear grip to go any faster. I don’t want to push it and end up backing into the wall.”

“10-4,” replied Owens. “We’re going to get you in here soon.”

While Sorenson was running in the ninth position, Owens called him to pit road for service on lap 120. The Dollar General team leapt off pit wall and changed four tires, made air pressure and wedge adjustments and packed the car with fuel. As the field cycled through the green-flag stops, the Dollar General Toyota was running in the 11th position by lap 142. As he continued to circle the track, Sorenson updated the team on the car’s handling following the changes.

“We’re still sliding sideways,” he said. “I’m really, really loose.”

On lap 155, the sixth yellow flag of the night was displayed, providing the Dollar General team the needed opportunity to return to pit road for additional adjustments. Owens called for more wedge to be put into the rear of the car, air pressure adjustments and a spring rubber to be put into the left rear.

“There are only 15 cars on the lead lap,” Owens reminded his crew. “Let’s be sure to get all the adjustments in.”

Sorenson drove the Dollar General Toyota to pit road on lap 157 for service. The Dollar General crew quickly changed four tires, made the adjustments and packed the Camry with fuel. Sorenson returned the No. 32 car to the track and lined up in the 12th spot for the lap 161 restart.

Sorenson powered the Dollar General Toyota up to the eighth spot by lap 170. As green-flag racing continued, he slipped back to the 10th spot once again. An accident on the frontstretch brought out the next caution of the night, gathering the field behind the pace car on lap 182. He took the break in racing to update Owens on the results of the previous adjustments.

“We start out ok and then get looser as we go,” he said.

Owens prepared the team for their final pit stop, instructing them to change four tires, make a track bar adjustment and to adjust the rear shock. He called his driver to pit road on lap 183 and the Dollar General crew quickly serviced the No. 32 Camry. Because three teams chose to remain on the track, Sorenson restarted from the 13th position on lap 187.

With cars racing three-wide around the speedway, it did not take long for the caution to be displayed again on lap 188, this time for an accident on the backstretch. Sorenson restarted from the 13th position on lap 193. In the final shootout, he got up on the wheel and drove the Dollar General Toyota up to the seventh position before the checkered flag flew. The finish marked Sorenson’s 18th top-10 finish and the 25th for the Dollar General team in 2010.

“The Dollar General car was really good in that last run. We battled a consistently loose-handling car for the majority of the race. Trent [Owens, crew chief] and the team worked really hard to make adjustments but no matter what we did, it wouldn’t tighten up. The last run we were able to really power forward and get a solid top-10 finish. This was a great weekend for Dollar General. Not only was it their title race, but we had a lot of fun sporting the pink paint scheme in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. I want to thank them for their continued support of not only our team, but their involvement as a race title sponsor.”

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series teams travel to Gateway International Raceway next weekend for the final NASCAR race at the Madison, IL-based track. The 5-Hour Energy 250 will be broadcast LIVE Saturday afternoon on ESPN2 and on MRN Radio affiliates. LIVE coverage begins at 3:00 p.m. EST with the green flag scheduled to drop at 3:30 p.m.

Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Charlotte Motor Speedway – October 15, 2010

Charlotte Motor Speedway.

- Camry drivers Joey Logano (fourth), Kyle Busch (sixth) and Reed Sorenson (seventh) also earned top-10 finishes at the 1.5- mile oval.

- Seven Toyota drivers are in the top-15 in the unofficial NNS driver points following Charlotte — Busch (third), Logano
(seventh), Leffler (ninth), Wallace (10th), Gaughan (11th), Annett (12th) and Sorenson (13th).

MARTIN TRUEX JR., No. 00 Out! Pet Care Toyota Camry, Diamond-Waltrip Racing

Finished: 2nd

Did you have a car to beat Brad Keselowski toward the end of the race?

“He was a little bit better than us obviously there at the end on the long runs. Had a good race – had a lot of fun racing with him. I have to thank Out! Pet Care and everybody at DWR (Diamond-Waltrip Racing) for letting me run this Toyota. I have never been so disappointed to run second. It looked like if those last couple cautions hadn’t come out, we were going to be in good shape. Just a little too tight after that last run there. It’s a shame because on the green flag runs we were really fast and really just called off the adjustments and then we got too tight later. These guys did a great job – they’re a part time Camping World East team that won the championship so to run like this with them again for the second time is awesome and they do an awesome job. I can’t thank them enough. Just wish we could have done one stop better.”

Is this finish a confidence-booster for you?

“We come do this Nationwide deal for fun and running good is obviously a bonus. We’ve run good enough in the Cup car to run second a few times and it just didn’t work out for us. We ran second here in the All-Star Race here in the Cup car. I don’t know if it’s a confidence booster as much as it is about having fun and coming here to get a trophy. It’s been a while since I’ve won a race, to be honest. I feel like I’ve got a good opportunity to do that with this team this year in the 00 and the 99. I got two more races running it to do that and we’ll see what happens.”

What was your opinion of the new Nationwide Series car?

“I think the car is awesome. Honestly, I think they should adapt some of the rules to the Cup cars. I think the racing is great. Not having bump stops is a huge plus for the teams I think as far as saving a bit of money and making things a little less complicated and making the racing better. I think that’s something they could look at. Obviously our noses will be more towards that style next year in the Cup cars, which I think will be good. Overall I think the cars are awesome.

Obviously with looking at the qualifying times and how tight the field is, it definitely tightened the field up from what it was with the other cars when they would come here, which is a good thing. Obviously with all the Cup teams building new cars every two or three months, there’s a lot of cars and chassis’ out there for the smaller buck teams to be able to get and it really helps them be competitive with the body rules and the aero rules where everybody has to fit that template. It’s a big, big deal I think for the series and a big shot in the arm in a good way. I think it’s going to help the series coming down the road.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 20 GameStop / Guitar Hero Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finished: 4th

How did your final adjustments help your car toward the end of the race?

“We were hoping to make the car better and we just weren’t good enough. There were times we shined and times we got out front. I looked at us as a third-place car for most of the race. The two cars that weren’t leading the race the whole night ended up winning this thing. That’s crazy – they did a good job adjusting on the race car and got their stuff faster. We just kind of maintained all night and it was all about restarts. If you started on the bottom then you were pretty much screwed and it was hard to get back up there and have a decent run.

If you started on the top then you were able to get a couple spots. I figure if you started fourth then that was like starting second – that’s what I was figuring there. Either way, we’re better than what we were in Michigan with these new Nationwide cars and we got our GameStop Toyota a little bit better now. We’ll go back to work and we still have a little ways to go. We’re getting these things better and we’re getting closer now.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finished: 6th

JASON RATCLIFF, crew chief, No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

What did you battle with the race car at the end of the race?

“We started good and led a lot of laps, but as the track changed and it started cooling off we were keeping up with it decent and then it just really got away from us in a hurry. We tried to make some adjustments and the adjustments didn’t react like we had hoped they would. It’s just part of learning this car. We made adjustments that we would have made with the other car that would have been the direction to go. With this car, it just wasn’t right. Either it wasn’t enough or it was the wrong adjustment – one or the other. We’re learning and I thought to start the race, it’s the best we had been with the new car. At the end of the race, we were back to where we were. It’s a building process and we’ll be better next time.”

REED SORENSON, No. 32 Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

Finished: 7th

What is your assessment of the new Nationwide Series car?

“It was okay. It was about the same assessment as I had in Michigan, but they seem to be okay. They seem to be fun to race. We can run as much side-by-side racing as the old car, so it seems okay.”

How was your car tonight?

“We were loose. We were never tight. I think you can make it either way, just like the old car. You can make yourself where you’re tight and the other way around. It’s going to be a learning curve track to track, that’s the biggest thing. Trying to figure out what they’ll do. A lot of the places we will go next year are going to be new places with this car since we only ran four races with it this year. It will be interesting next year and we still have a lot to learn.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Toyota Camry, Rusty Wallace Racing

Finished: 11th

How has your team adjusted to these new cars?

“We just need to get more time with the engineers with these cars and get the information. We are trying our best. The hard part is finding the time with the manpower. Every little bit we get shows and we’ve come since Daytona to Michigan to Richmond, we have come a long way. We had the chance at a top-10 tonight, but we ended up 11th. We just want to be better. For what we have at the moment, we’re pretty darn happy. We came from a lap down and green flag stops. It was a good night.”

How was your car tonight?

“It was pretty good. We were just a little too tight at some points with a little bit of a loose swing in it when you tried to pin to the bottom. Looking around, a lot of guys looked like that. Our Toyota is about the same as everybody else’s. We just need to get the front end to turn a little bit better without losing our rear grip.”

DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 11 Rexall / Dollar General Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

JAMES BUESCHER, No. 10 AccuDoc Solutions Toyota Camry, Braun Racing

(October 11, 2010) – Reed Sorenson and the Dollar General team unloaded with confidence at Auto Club Speedway this weekend. Starting from the 12th position, Sorenson wrestled with an increasingly tight-handling car and drove the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota to a 10th-place finish in the CampingWorld.com 300.

When the green flag dropped on Saturday afternoon at Auto Club Speedway, Sorenson immediately went to work to storm inside the top-10. He quickly overtook positions, one-by-one, and was running in the eighth spot by lap 16. He was tight on the rear bumper of the No. 99 car and took over the seventh position on lap 22.

On lap 31, Sorenson reported that the Dollar General Toyota could use a little more front grip, but that the back of the car was well-balanced. Crew chief, Trent Owens, informed his driver that they would make adjustments when they came to pit road in nine laps.

On lap 39, the leaders began to come to pit road for green-flag stops. Sorenson followed suit and came to pit road for fresh tires and the adjustments on lap 40. The Dollar General team quickly changed the four tires, added fuel and made air pressure adjustments. As the field cycled through the green-flag stops, the Dollar General Toyota was running in the seventh position again on lap 42.

The first caution came out on lap 46 for debris on the race track. Sorenson took the opportunity to update Owens on the car’s balance.

“I just about spun off of [turn] two,” Sorenson said. “It’s really slick over there! When I was behind the No. 12 car, I was sliding around a good bit, but I think that was because we were on old tires.”

Sorenson restarted the No. 32 Camry from the seventh spot when the race resumed on lap 51. Positions were shuffled during the restart and he was quickly engaged in a side-by-side battle for the ninth position, rubbing fenders around the two-mile track.

“We’re getting tighter a lot faster in this run,” Sorenson informed Owens. “I don’t know if it’s the track or the fender that’s causing the change.”

“Probably a little of both,” replied Owens. “We’ll get them both fixed on your next pit stop.”

Settled into the eighth spot, Sorenson continued to circle the track, waiting for the opportunity to return to pit road for adjustments.

NASCAR officials displayed the yellow flag on lap 79 when fluid was reported on the track. As the field slowed behind the pace car, Sorenson updated Owens on the changed handling of the car.

“We need more front grip,” he said. “I still wouldn’t take anything out of the back. The water temperature is running about 240 and the oil is about 270. Are those temps ok?”

“They’re ok, but we’ll pull a strip of tape off of the bottom grill,” Owens replied.

“Sounds good,” Sorenson said. “Can we make a bigger adjustment now because of that?”

“I already have an air pressure adjustment coming in your right front tire and we’re going to get your fender pulled back out,” Owens told him. “You should be fine.”

As the lengthy caution continued, pit road remained closed, forcing the concern of running out of fuel.

“How are we with fuel?” asked Sorenson.

“We’re good until at least lap 86, but save what you can,” Owens answered his driver.

Pit road was opened on lap 87 and Sorenson brought the Dollar General Toyota in for service. The No. 32 crew changed four tire tires, made an air pressure adjustment, removed a strip of tape off of the lower front grill, removed a windshield tear-off and packed the car with fuel. The Dollar General Camry was quickly returned to the track and restarted from the sixth position on lap 91.

Within two laps Sorenson told Owens that the car’s handling was greatly affected by the adjustments.

“We are too tight,” he said. “Definitely, too tight!”

The Dollar General Toyota climbed to the fourth position, but as the run progressed, slipped back to the eighth spot by the time the third yellow flag of the day was displayed for debris on lap 102. Owens called for a four-tire change, two rounds up on the track bar, the removal of another windshield tear-off and fuel when the No. 32 came to pit road on lap 103. When green-flag racing resumed on lap 107, Sorenson was in the ninth position.

On lap 114, Sorenson told Owens that the car’s balance was still tight and that he was experiencing a vibration when he entered the corners.

Owens replied, “10-4. How bad is the vibration? If you think you need to come in, we’re ready for you.”

Sorenson continued to power around the race track, maintaining the ninth spot and hoping for the opportunity to return to pit road one more time before the race’s conclusion. On lap 126, a multi-car accident in turn one brought out the yellow flag again.

Owens instructed the team to change four tires, make an air pressure change, add tape to the bottom front grill and top off the gas tank with three seconds of fuel. On lap 127, Sorenson brought the Dollar General Toyota to pit road for service and adjustments. The race resumed on lap 134 with the No. 32 in the tenth position.

“We are still very tight,” Sorenson told Owens after the race restarted.

“10-4,” Owens replied. “Just get the most you can and we’ll take a closer look at the car when the race is over.”

Reed Sorenson

The closing laps were littered with cautions. During the green-flag racing, Sorenson fought hard for position and took the checkered flag in the 10th spot. The finish marked the 24th top-10 for the No. 32 Dollar General team this season.

“The Dollar General car started out pretty good, but the handling went to the tight-side and we just couldn’t seem to find the right adjustment. I think the tape back on the grill would have helped us out after that last pit stop, but the patch fell off sometime during that last run. It wasn’t the prettiest top-10 finish, but we’ll take it and worry about focusing on Charlotte and the ‘new car’ now.”

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series teams will have a short trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway next weekend. The Dollar General 300 will be broadcast LIVE Friday night on ESPN2 and on PRN Radio affiliates. LIVE coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. EST with the green flag scheduled to drop at 8:00 p.m.
