“I am excited to be able to climb into Stacy’s No. 60 SafeAuto truck and put a good run together for Stacy, the guys and all of their partners,” said Whitt. “They have a great program and a fast truck. I am just so thankful for the opportunity.”
Stacy Compton, Owner of Turn One Racing, is equally excited. “Cole Whitt is the future of NASCAR,” he said. “We are really excited to have him drive for us at Homestead. He has a lot of natural talent, a true desire to win, and a great understanding of race cars and the changes that need to be made to make them go fast.”
Going fast is something Whitt has known since he began racing BMX bikes at just five years old. Whitt won races in the novice class and won his first national race by age six, before turning his sights to winning in go-karts. At age eight, Whitt transitioned into a go-kart where he began racing across the nation, racking up wins and national titles along the way. Whitt earned eight IKF Grand National Titles, two WKA Grand National Titles, eight Regional Championships, and California State Championships, before moving on to another form of open-wheel racing; 410 Sprints and Midgets.
“Cole has been impressive in everything he has ever raced,” explained Compton. “He and his family are dedicated to his racing career, and even partially uprooted to Indiana when Cole was racing Sprint Cars. He’s won races and championships in almost everything he has ever raced. The kid is just impressive.”
The 19 year-old California native, who is a development driver for the Red Bull Racing Team, drove for that team this earlier this year in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East where he finished fourth in the championship point standings after scoring two starts from the pole position, and six top-five and seven top-10 finishes in only 10 starts.
Whitt looks to have another impressive run on Friday night when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series takes the green flag for the final time in the 2010 season at 8 p.m. ET. Pre-race coverage of the Ford 200 will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET on SPEED with live radio broadcasts coming to you from Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio (Channel 128).
