“This is a great opportunity for Turn One Racing,” said Team Owner, Stacy Compton. “It has always been our objective to grow the team and this is just the next step in that plan. We have a great group of partners behind us and feel like we are taking all the right steps to build a very competitive Sprint Cup team.”

Compton’s team has purchased cars from Richard Childress Racing and plans are in the works to race eight to ten events in their freshman year. The team will attempt the remaining races, excluding the 200-lap Daytona 500. “We have partnered with one of our long-time supporters to run a handful of races this year. We’re also working on additional sponsorship that would enable us to run more races throughout the year.”

The team is also in the process of putting together a full season program for the No. 60 truck. The driver, crew chief, and sponsor lineup for both teams will be announced at a later date.

About Turn One Racing: Turn One Racing was founded in 2006 by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran Stacy Compton. Turn One Racing was designed to develop and promote young drivers of exceptional talent in the late model divisions across the Southeast. In 2009, Turn One Racing expanded its involvement in motorsports by purchasing the assets of the highly successful NASCAR Camping World Car Series team of Wyler Racing, which had accomplished three wins, 20 top-five, and 35 top-10 finishes in 90 starts. Up until recently, Turn One Racing operated as Wyler Racing, where they garnered two top-five, 15 top-10 finishes and 54 starts. Since rebranding as Turn One Racing, the team has captured two pole positions, two additional top-five’s, and 14 top-10 finishes in 47 starts. The company is based outside “Race City USA” in China Grove, North Carolina.

“Blaney will run a combined NASCAR Nationwide and K&N Series schedule”

Tommy Baldwin Racing Thumbnail Logo

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (January 18, 2012) – Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) signed Ryan Blaney to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS). The 18-year-old will get behind the wheel of the No. 36 SealWrap Repair Tape Chevrolet and compete in six events throughout the season with his debut set for April 27 at Richmond International Raceway. Blaney will also run six NASCAR K&N Pro Series (NKNPS) races in his family-owned DB Racing No. 10 SealWrap Repair Tape / Heavy Duty Industrial Services machine, beginning at Bristol Motor Speedway March 17, and Trent Owen will return as crew chief for the NKNPS car.

Blaney, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) and TBR driver Dave Blaney, made a combined three starts last season in the NKNPS East and West, winning in his third start and capturing his first NASCAR victory at Phoenix International Raceway. Blaney also won the 2011 PASS South Championship and found success in the ARCA Racing Series where he finished in the top-10 in his two starts.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to run a mix of K&N and Nationwide races this season,” Blaney commented. “We were really competitive in the K&N Series last year, and I think we will be even more competitive this year. Hopefully, we will have an opportunity to win all six races. We will have good equipment racing with TBR. It will be great to race with and learn from the Nationwide guys. To be able to race on bigger tracks will be a good learning experience too. I’m grateful that SealWrap is supporting my progression in NASCAR and really excited to work with them throughout the season.”

This season will mark TBR’s fourth season of competition. TBR began as a part-time one-car NSCS team in 2009 and developed into a top-35 team by 2011. In 2012, TBR plans to compete with two NSCS teams. The part time NNS team will expand on TBR’s driver development program in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The team would like to increase the number of races in both the NSCS and NNS schedules, barring more sponsorship opportunities.

“We are really looking forward to restarting our Nationwide program as we have had much success in the past in that series,” explained Tommy Baldwin. “Watching Ryan the last few years, we are excited to get to the track and see him perform. As we look to the future, this Nationwide program is a stepping-stone for the Cup program, and we are excited to start with Ryan.”

Blaney will join his dad, Dave Blaney, with TBR this season. The elder Blaney drove the No. 36 Tommy Baldwin Racing Chevrolet last season where he locked the team in to the top-35 in NSCS points and captured a third-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway.

“I’m proud that Ryan is making the next step in his racing career,” Dave Blaney said. “I think it is a great opportunity for him to run with TBR and still run some races in the K&N Series. He has learned very quickly in every series he has driven, so I am anticipating what competing in the Nationwide series brings. Thanks to SealWrap and Heavy Duty who have stepped up their programs as Ryan has moved through the ranks. It’s really refreshing to build a relationship with companies at this level and be able to grow together.”

SealWrap Repair Tape, a self-fusing rubber tape, partnered with Blaney in 2010 in the NKNPS. SealWrap Repair Tape uses a stretch-and-wrap technology that makes repairing irregular forms and shapes easy. There are no bonding agents, adhesives or glues to make it work. SealWrap fuses to itself and creates an air and watertight seal.

“Everyone at SealWrap is extremely excited to be involved with such a professional organization as Tommy Baldwin Racing,” said Don Lux, SealWrap National Sales Manager. “We have been and will continue to support Ryan Blaney in his racing career, and this sponsorship opportunity is a perfect way for us to continue doing that. Nationwide and K&N fans are our customers. They are hard working, do-it-yourselfers who use our SealWrap product around the house and on their cars and trucks. We here are SealWrap are passionate about our product and passionate about racing!”

About Tommy Baldwin Racing:

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Crew Chief Tommy Baldwin formed Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) in 2009. Baldwin utilized a declining economy to open a NSCS team with a stringent budget. The team worked to build to full-time competition, and by the 2011 season, the team’s third season, TBR competed in every race and locked the No. 36 Chevrolet in the top-35 in NSCS Owner Points. Dave Blaney drove the No. 36 Chevrolet to TBR’s highest finish of third in the October 2011 event at Talladega Superspeedway. TBR also fielded a second car for select races in the past two seasons with multiple drivers.

Based in Mooresville, N.C., TBR will compete in the NSCS in 2012 with NASCAR veterans David Reutimann and Dave Blaney. The team will also compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with Ryan Blaney.

“It was a pretty solid night for the Alliance Truck Parts Dodge Challenger. We just didn’t have the short run that we needed late in the race to crack into the top five. We had our ups and downs all night. We felt that we had really good long-run speed in the car to compete all night. We just got down to the end of the race and it became a short-run race with all the cautions. We made a small change and it wasn’t enough to get us where we needed to be. We got stuck on the inside on that last restart; it slowed us down a bit. We were good. We just needed more short-run speed.”

HAS THE LAST FOUR RACES GIVEN YOU GUYS A GOOD BUILDING BLOCK HEADING INTO THE 2012 SEASON?

“I think so. It’s not easy when you’re not running a full-time season, but we certainly didn’t waste any of the opportunities that we had all year. We raced to some top 10s, won at Phoenix and had another top 10 tonight. We need to continue to work on our short run speed. I think everyone on this team gained a lot of valuable experience and that can only be a positive thing heading into next year. Our race changes have been improving. Our team has become stronger in the pits. Everything that we’ve done the last four races has helped make us a team to contend with next season.”

TRAVIS GEISLER (Director of Competition, Penske Racing)

“A great night. The last couple of weeks have been really good. To get Sam (Hornish) in victory lane with his Alliance Truck Parts Dodge last weekend at Phoenix and Brad (Keselowski) tonight in his Discount Tire Dodge is awesome. This is pretty sweet. It’s always great to go out on a high note. Our Nationwide program did a great job all year with six wins and six poles. To come here and beat Carl Edwards is a real testament to everyone that touches these Dodge Challengers. This is why we go racing to be able to share in great moments like this. It certainly makes the off-season a lot shorter.”

(November 15, 2011) – Mike Wallace and the No. 01 IHateStevenSinger.com Chevrolet team of JD Motorsports are rolling to Homestead-Miami Speedway with high hopes to keep capitalize off recent momentum.

With this being the finale for the NASCAR Nationwide Series, he and the entire team would like have a repeat of last week’s finish at Phoenix International Raceway of 16thplace. Their number of top-20 finishes this season has been a tribute to what a single-car team can, indeed, achieve in the sport with hard work, dedication and good driving.

To make the weekend even better, Wallace will have his whole family down in the Sunshine State of Florida to take part in the racing activities. With him will be the 2011 ASA West Series and Late Model champion at Lebanon I-44 Speedway in Chrissy Wallace. She’s going to be on hand to seek out driving opportunities for the 2012 season.

As for the JD Motorsports team, they’re confident they can have a great run this weekend to close out the season on high note as they start to focus on 2012.

Mike Wallace Notes:

· * This will be the St. Louis natives 416th career NNS start and 34thof the season. During the 2011 campaign, he and the team have earned one top-five (Road America) and two top-10 finishes (RA and Dover) while also earning 16 top-20 finishes.

· * For the season, Wallace has completed a commendable 5,663 of 6,197 laps (91.4 percent) contested during the campaign. He’s also led six races for 12 laps.

· * In 10 previous starts at Homestead, the four-time NNS winner has led two events.

· * He’s completed 1,986 of 2003 laps (99.2 percent) of laps contested

· * His best start was 16th in 2009 and finish was 12th in 2005; he has three top-15 finishes, as well.

· * Wallace comes into the race with a fairly solid lock on 13th in the Driver’s Standings.

Watch Wallace: There will be one practice session Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 10:20 a.m., followed by the Final Practice from 12:30 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. on ESPN2. Qualifying takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday with race action on ESPN2 at4:30 p.m.

Mike Wallace Quotes: “Another NASCAR season comes to an end this weekend in Homestead. You know, you wonder if you’re going to make it through a season when we get to Daytona in February. Then, you sit here in November and ask yourself where the time went.”

“This team of JD Motorsports has worked and fought for every single decent finish we’ve had this year. A single-car team like ours is up against those other guys with the Cup backing and being fully funded. That’s why we deserve every good finish we have earned this year.”

“The people on this team never quit or give up. This weekend, we’re going to Homestead with that same determination we’ve put forth every weekend we’ve raced this year. This is a great group of people and our sponsors have been great to work with, too.”

“We’ll line ‘em up, drop the green and give our go right to the end this weekend. It’s going to be great to have the whole family there, too, and we’re hoping to make some great contacts for Chrissy so she can race in a NASCAR series, as well, next year.”

“Championships are very special and winning the 2010 Nationwide Series title will definitely go down as one of the highlights of my racing career. It was the culmination of a dream. The fact that it was the first NASCAR championship for Penske Racing just adds another layer to it. I think we’ve built a very formidable Nationwide Series team at Penske Racing over the last couple of years. I think we showed that last weekend at Phoenix where Sam and I ran one-two. It’s a series that really means a lot to me. That’s why I will always race, though maybe not full-time, in the Nationwide Series and I was proud to represent it as its champion this year. Congratulations to the new champion this season, whoever it ends up being.”

Crew chief Todd Gordon on his first season at Penske Racing

“After taking over a program that, from the outside had a lot of continuity, but internally had a lot of new faces, including myself, we have seasoned into a team that is capable of winning every week and we have developed the chemistry necessary to compete for an owners championship. Five DNF’s in the first 14 events put us out of contention for this year, but the focus all of the Discount Tire/Ruby Tuesday guys have kept since then has shown the strength of this group and potential going forward. We want to end the season on a positive note and Homestead would be a good place to do that. I really look forward to getting to another intermediate banked track that is similar in ways to a group of tracks(Chicago, Kansas, Kentucky) that we have had a lot of success on this year. The progressive banking should lead to great racing.”

A fifth place finish in the driver’s standings will mark Reed’s second best season of his career. In 2005, Sorenson finished the season 4th in the standings with two wins driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. This season, Reed has driven 29 races for Turner Motorsports and now four races with MacDonald Motorsports. This year, Sorenson added a win to his resume at Road America as well as seven top-5’s, and 18 top-10’s.

Reed at Homestead….. In four previous NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at the 1.5 mile progressively banked oval in South Florida, Reed Sorenson’s best finish was a 4th. This came in 2004 in only his 5th ever start in the series driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. Reed will be looking better that finish this Saturday in his Bullet Liner/Foametix No. 82 Dodge.

Reed Sorenson

Meet Reed at Fan-Fest….. Fans will have the chance to meet Reed on Thursday, November 17th at Homestead in the NASCAR Championship Drive Fan-Fest events. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a 20 minute, on-stage Question and Answer session with the drivers. Then at 5:20, fans will have the chance to meet and get autographs from the participating drivers until 6:00 p.m.

Rough weekend at Phoenix….. The Phoenix race was definitely one that Reed and the Bullet Liner/Foametix No. 82 team would like to forget. After getting damage early on in the race, Reed was back on the track before getting a flat right front tire and slamming into the outside wall. Reed was un-injured in the accident but the same couldn’t be said for the MacDonald Motorsports No. 82.

No. 4 Monster Energy Chevrolet Silverado

Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event / Date: Ford 200 – Nov. 18, 2011

Venue: Homestead-Miami Speedway – Homestead, Fla.

This Week’s Monster Energy Chevrolet Impala … Ricky Carmichael will pilot chassis TMS-021 from the Turner Motorsports (TMS) NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) stable in Friday night’s Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Built new for 2011, this truck saw action most recently at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where, despite being collected in an early-race incident, Carmichael finished 12th. This truck also saw action this season at Charlotte Motor Speedway (St. 17, Fn. 12), Texas Motor Speedway in June (St. 9, Fn. 6), Kentucky Speedway in July (St. 14, Fn. 16), Michigan International Speedway (St. 7, Fn. 12) Chicagoland Speedway (St. 4, Fn.25) and Atlanta Motor Speedway (St. 1 Fn. 8).

Phoenix Facts … Carmichael participated in last weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race where he and his Doug George-led Monster Energy Team turned in a gritty 15th-place performance in the WYPALL 200 Powered by Kimberly-Clark Professional at Phoenix International Raceway. It was Carmichael’s fourth and final NASCAR Nationwide Series start of 2011 but perhaps, his most determined. The ever-resolute competitor battled through miscues on pit road, handling issues and late-race contact with another racer to muster a respectable top-15 showing behind the wheel of the No. 34 Monster Energy Chevrolet Impala.

In a Nutshell … The 2011 season marks Carmichael’s second year competing on a full-time basis and third overall in the NCWTS. Since making his series debut 67 races ago, he has gone on to earn four top-five and 18 top-10 finishes. Over those same 67 races, the motocross legend has logged a 14.8 average start, a 16.9 average finish, led 40 laps, completed 90.3 percent of the laps run and earned just over of $862,000 in purse money. In Nationwide Series competition, he’s made eight starts spanning the last two years and logged a career-best ninth-place finish earlier this season at Road America.

2011 Totals … In 24 NCWTS races this season, Carmichael has notched one pole, one top-five and seven top-10 finishes. The 15-time AMA National Champion has led 39 laps this season, recorded a 16.3 average start and a 17.2 average finish. He has completed 3,254 of 3,719 total laps (87.5 percent) and finished on the lead lap 13 times.

Nationwide Notes … In 33 NASCAR Nationwide Series races in 2011, TMS-fielded teams have notched three wins, 21 top-five and 62 top-10 finishes. TMS’s No. 32 Dollar General team picked up one spot in owner’s points and now sits sixth after Ron Hornaday Jr., finished 13th last weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. Justin Allgaier, driver of the No. 31 Brandt Chevrolet, was ninth in the final rundown after Phoenix and maintained third in the driver point standings. While Jason Leffler was credited with 26th at Phoenix, the Long Beach, Calif., native still held on to sixth in points heading into the final race of the year.

RC Live … On Thursday, Nov. 17, Carmichael will appear at the NASCAR Championship Drive at Lummus Park located along Ocean Drive, between 7th and 9th Streets, in Miami Beach. The Clearwater Fla., native will be on hand from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. for a question and answer session and to sign autographs for race fans.

Turner Truck Totals … In 23 NCWTS races in 2011, TMS entries have earned 13 top-five and 31 top-10 finishes. James Buescher leads the way with 19 top 10s and is third in points – 28 behind leader Austin Dillon. Buescher has only finished outside the top 10 four times in the 23 NCWTS races in which he has competed this season. Carmichael has logged one top five and seven top 10s and is 15th in the standings. Blake Feese finished fourth and Ryan Newman was fifth in Atlanta. Mark Martin finished seventh in the No. 32 machine at Pocono while Brad Sweet drove the same truck for the first eight races of the year, logging a pair of top-10 results.

Get to the Point(s) … Carmichael jumped from 16th to 15th in points following his eighth-place finish two weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway. Buescher is third in the standings. While Feese has made just nine starts in 2011, he is 26th in points. The No. 32 machine is also assured a spot on Friday night’s starting grid by virtue of being 20th in the NCWTS owner point standings.

Welcome Aboard … Turner Motorsports and Monster Energy are pleased to feature CVS / pharmacy on the lower-rear quarter panels of the No. 4 entry this weekend in Homestead. CVS/pharmacy, the retail division of CVS Caremark Corporation, is America’s leading retail pharmacy with more than 7,200 CVS/pharmacy and Longs Drug stores. CVS/pharmacy is committed to improving the lives of those we serve by making innovative and high-quality health and pharmacy services safe, affordable and easy to access, both in its stores and online at CVS.com.

After three years racing in the Camping World Truck Series, where do you think you are on the learning curve and have you met your expectations?

“I think I’m getting closer to where I need to be with my learning curve. I’m getting more comfortable when I get out on the race track so I can focus more on actually racing and getting the vehicle to where it’s handling better. As far as my own expectations go, there have been times where I’ve over-exceeded my expectations and times when I’ve under under-performed. I’m not a great guy to ask about judging myself. I think if you take everything into account and you know everything about my program, I’ve done pretty well, all things considered. I think I’ve done a pretty good job at holding my own against guys who have been racing on four wheels for a long time. I’m somewhat happy but, me being the competitive person that I am, I expect more and want more.”

What have been the biggest challenges?

“The biggest challenge I face every single week is my lack of experience when we don’t unload that fast and being able to explain what the vehicle is doing so I can give good feedback about what to change so we can get faster. I need to be better when it comes to taking some of the guesswork away from the crew chief. My lack of seat-time has hindered me a little bit when it comes to restarts closer to the end of races and knowing all the tricks of the trade. I think my lack of experience is pretty obvious when I’m racing guys like Hornaday (Ron Hornaday Jr.) and some of the other guys who have been doing this for years and years. That’s really when I get taken to school.”

Can you put 2011 into perspective?

“I expected to have a better season than we did. My goals at the beginning of the season were to be inside the top five in points and no worse than being in the top 10. I think, given the amount of experience I have, being inside the top five would have almost been the equivalent of winning the championship. It’s definitely been a let down from that perspective. At the same time, we made some strides as a team that shouldn’t be overlooked. We won the pole at Atlanta and ran up front all day at both restrictor-plate races. We also led some laps and that was a big deal for me, personally. I definitely feel like I’ve made some accomplishments this year but the point thing is definitely a letdown. I’m not one to make excuses so all I can do is put my best foot forward and work hard to be better next year.”

All of Blake’s friends and family will be on hand this weekend to cheer Blake on in his quest to become 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year.

Blake Koch on Homestead….. “This is going to be one of the biggest races of my career and I’m so glad my family will be there to cheer me on. My crew chief, John Monsam, has been making my Daystar.com No. 81 faster and faster each week and we’ve got to keep that going at Homestead. Winning Rookie of the Year would be a dream come true and I’m going to do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal.”

Can Blake Win Roty?….. Even after beating Timmy Hill five races in a row, Blake now finds himself trailing Ryan Truex by three points heading into the season finale. The 8th place finish by Truex earned him three bonus points for finishing in the top-10, putting him three ahead of Koch and Hill. There is a lot that goes into the voting process for winning the Rookie of the Year title so anything still can happen at Homestead. Even if Blake does not end up actually winning the prestigious award, it was still a banner year for both Blake and the MacDonald Motorsports team. Both turned a lot of heads throughout the season and should be very proud of their efforts.

Blake matched his best qualifying result of his career by gridding 13th for second consecutive week. Koch was equally as strong during the race, running in the top-20 all day long and recording his career best finish on an oval with a 14th place result.

Blake Appearance at Fan-Fest….. Fans will have the chance to meet Blake on Thursday, November 17th at Homestead in the NASCAR Championship Drive Fan-Fest events. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a 20 minute, on-stage Question and Answer session with the drivers. Then at 5:20, fans will have the chance to meet and get autographs from the participating drivers until 6:00 p.m.

Top-10 Finish for Menard and the No. 27 Peak/Menards Team at Phoenix

Richard Childress Racing’s Paul Menard recorded his best finish at Phoenix International Raceway with his ninth-place result in Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 500. Despite a light rain that blanketed the Avondale, Ariz. area in the morning hours, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series was able to start the 312-lap event on schedule with the No. 27 Peak/Menards Chevrolet in the 11th position as the 43-car field took the green flag. Menard climbed as high as eighth before settling just outside the top 10 in the 11th position. During the lap-40 competition caution period mandated by NASCAR, he reported to crew chief Slugger Labbe the bright yellow machine was a little tight. Menard hit pit road for four Goodyear tires, a full tank of Sunoco fuel, chassis and air pressure adjustments on lap 41. With many teams opting to take only two tires, the No. 27 team restarted mid-pack in 19th on lap 45. The Eau Claire, Wis., native remained in the top 20, reporting his Chevrolet Impala started out extremely free, but was more balanced at the end of green-flag runs. The No. 27 Chevrolet was entering pit road for service on lap 159 under green-flag conditions when the yellow flag was again displayed. Menard bypassed his pit stall in hopes of staying ahead of the leader, but was trapped one lap down. He returned to pit road for air pressure and track bar adjustments. The Peak/Menards Chevrolet restarted in the 24th position when the field returned to green-flag racing on lap 164 and was scored the first car one lap down to the leader. When the yellow flag was displayed five laps later, the 31-year-old driver was the recipient of the “Lucky Dog” award and returned to the lead lap. Menard climbed back into the top 20 following a spotless lap-179 pit stop while under caution, restarting in the 18th position on lap 182. Labbe’s two-tire call during a lap-221 visit to pit road launched the No. 27 machine from the 18th position to second for the lap-225 restart. For the remainder of the event, Menard continued to battle a loose-off condition, but maintained position in the top 10, taking the checkered flag in ninth and scoring his eighth top-10 of the 2011 season.

Start – 11 Finish – 9 Laps Led – 0 Points – 18

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:

“This Peak/Menards team did a great job all weekend. The car just got better and better on Friday, and we thought we had a shot at the pole position after final practice. The track was very different on Saturday. It slowed down a lot and we were really loose. We had no idea what to expect during the race, especially with the rain that rolled through here (Phoenix International Raceway). This is our first top 10 on a flat track as a team, so that was a solid accomplishment for us. We typically struggle on tracks like this, so to hit on something and have a solid weekend at Phoenix is very important. We’ll carry that with us into next season.”

Harvick and the No. 29 Budweiser Team Forced to Settle for Top 20 at Phoenix

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet team were forced to settle for a 19th-place result in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway after late-race pit strategy didn’t play out in their favor. Harvick started the race from 27th position and quickly raced his way into the top 20 by the time the competition caution that was issued by NASCAR was thrown at lap 40. Harvick reported to his team the car was “tight in the middle and loose off,” so crew chief Gil Martin called for a two-tire stop at lap 42. Harvick restarted in the 14th position when the field took the green flag at lap 45 but the tight-handling condition persisted. Harvick climbed as high as the 11th position before reporting a vibration on lap 138. He brought the No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet to pit road under green-flag conditions five laps later for a four-tire stop but the vibration continued to worsen. The team checked all the tires following the pit stop and determined that the vibration must have come from the brakes as a number of teams were reporting brake issues. Martin noted that the team planned to remove tape on the next trip to pit road to help cool off the brakes. Harvick was running in the 26th position when the caution flag waved on lap 158 and was caught a lap down as many of the leaders had yet to make pit stops. The No. 29 team elected to take the wave-around pass to get back on the lead lap, restarting 22nd on lap 163. Harvick made it up to the 15th position, but lost one spot as he continued to wrestle the tight-handling machine around the one-mile Avondale, Ariz. facility. The No. 29 team elected to pit early for their final stop of the race for four tires and fuel at lap 272 to try to help the handling of the Budweiser Chevrolet . As green-flag stops cycled through, many of the leaders pitted late and took two tires or just fuel only on their final stops, dropping Harvick back several spots as the No. 29 team had spent more time on pit road for their four-tire stop, costing them considerable track position. Harvick took the checkered flag in 19th position, one lap down to the leader.

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:

“It was a tough day for the No. 29 Budweiser Chevrolet team. We didn’t quite know what to expect with the new surface and the weather this weekend. We took some gambles today and it didn’t work out in the end. We’ll head to Homestead next weekend and try to end the season on a better note.”

Top-Five Finish at Phoenix for Caterpillar Global Mining Racing Team

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Caterpillar Global Mining Race team continued their late-season run of strong finishes with a fourth-place showing in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. The No. 31 Cat Global Mining Chevrolet Impala was quickest in Friday’s first practice session which made them the 46th and final car to qualify Saturday morning. Burton’s run of 26.608 seconds at an average speed of 135.298 mph on the reconfigured one-mile oval was good enough for the 14th starting spot in Sunday’s 500k event. Two cautions in the first six laps and a NASCAR-mandated competition caution on lap 40 kept the leaderboard mostly in check. Burton made a steady march toward the top 10, which he achieved on lap 86. The 21-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner moved into sixth place on lap 112, but 25 laps later told crew chief Luke Lambert he felt a vibration. Burton made a green-flag stop on lap 151 for fresh tires, where it was determined immediately afterward the vibration was caused by one of the rear tires had spun on the wheel, moving the wheel weights and throwing the tire out of balance. Burton was furthered hampered by a caution just eight laps after his green-flag stop. However, he received the “Lucky Dog” to get back on the lead lap and again made his charge toward the front. The Cat Global Mining Chevy was in the 10th position on lap 210 and after a strong pit stop on lap 221 picked up two more positions. Burton was sixth on lap 242 and maintained that spot until grabbing the fourth position shortly before the green flag waved.

Start – 14 Finish – 4 Laps Led – 0 Points – 22

JEFF BURTON QUOTES:

“We got really tight there at the end and he (Tony Stewart) had a lot of momentum. I didn’t slam into him or anything, but I wasn’t going to give him the spot. He earned it and he got it. The Caterpillar Global Mining Chevrolet was good, really, all day. I’m real proud of everybody. When things are tough, you find out what people are made of. My group has just kept digging and kept their heads up. Nobody has quit on this team, not once. I’m real proud of that.”

“We have always worked hard and we didn’t get in this hole because of one person. We were just looking at things wrong. We’ve started changing how we are looking at things. I’ve gotten a little more involved in trying to understand exactly what is in the cars because that is really a departure for me not to be involved. So, I’ve become a little more involved. But that hasn’t had much to do with it other than me understanding what is in the car. I think that does matter. So, just a lot of work, a lot of effort and just everybody hitting the right buttons right now.”

Bowyer Scores 15th Top-10 Finish of 2011 season with 10th-Place Result at Phoenix

Clint Bowyer and the No. 33 Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevrolet team, sporting a special USO “Send Cheer” paint scheme to honor military families whose loved ones are serving our country, scored their 15th top-10 finish of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season by bringing home a hard-fought 10th-place effort in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. The 32-year-old Bowyer, starting in the 28th position after a lackluster qualifying performance on Saturday, began the 312-lap event by steadily moving his Chevrolet Impala through the field from the drop of the green flag. The Emporia Kan., native found himself in 21st-place by lap 15 and advanced five more positions before the mandatory competition caution on lap 40. Under the ensuing caution period, crew chief Shane Wilson decided to take four fresh Goodyear tires and Sunoco E15 fuel instead of only two tires like most other teams regulating Bowyer to the 22nd position for the restart. Over the next 110 laps, the Richard Childress Racing driver fought hard and worked his way up to the 18th position. On a routine four-tire pit stop under green-flag conditions on lap 160, the caution flag was displayed for an accident while the No. 33 Chevrolet was being serviced on pit road, trapping the five-time Sprint Cup Series race winner one lap down to the leader. Bowyer restarted in the 25th position while competing with other drivers for the “lucky dog” free pass. Finally after 58 laps and three caution-flag periods, Bowyer was awarded the “lucky dog” and was scored on the lead lap. By lap 230, the yellow and blue machine was back in the top 20 and entered the top 15 at lap 270. On the final green-flag pit stop of the day on lap 290, Wilson played pit strategy and instructed the “Helping Hands” pit crew to change left-side tires on the No. 33 Chevrolet. The remainder of the event ran under green-flag conditions with Bowyer entering the top 15 on lap 293 and then the top 10 with 10 laps to go. The RCR driver continued to post some of the fastest lap times in the entire 43-car field over the final 10 circuits to secure the 10th-place finish. Bowyer remains 13th in NSCS driver championship point standings with one race remaining in the 2011 season.

Start – 28 Finish – 10 Laps Led – 0 Points – 13

CLINT BOWYER QUOTE:

“I think we definitely had a top-five car today if we wouldn’t have gotten stuck one lap down halfway through the race. It was a solid race and feels good to at least bring home a top-10 finish for Cheerios and the USO.”

(November 13, 2011) – Ryan Blaney started fourth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (NKNPSW) race Saturday night at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR). He fell back to 11th in the first half of the 125-mile event and struggled with a tight-handling No. 11 Accell Construction / Heavy Duty / Ruston Transport Chevrolet. The crew made significant changes to the DB Racing car during the five-minute break, and Blaney quickly drove to the lead for 44 of the final 45 laps. He took the checkered flag for his first NASCAR victory in his third start.

Blaney, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Dave Blaney, started fourth in the Casino Arizona 125 and fell back to fifth by lap four. He radioed that the No. 11 Accell Construction/Heavy Duty/Ruston Transport Chevrolet was extremely tight through the center of the corner. By the third yellow flag on lap 38, Blaney held onto the fifth position, but continued to have issues with a tight racecar. Crew Chief Trent Owens reassured the 17-year-old driver that they would make big changes to the car during the team’s pit stop.

Blaney continued to struggle and fell back to 11th when a multi-car incident brought out the yellow flag on lap 65. At lap 67, NASCAR Officials called the five-minute break for teams to work on their cars. Blaney reiterated that the car was tight and chattering in the corner. Owens called for trackbar, wedge, stagger and air pressure adjustments.

The field went back to green flag racing on lap 67 with Blaney in the 11th position. Just one lap later, the NASCAR rookie drove into the ninth position, and by the next caution on lap 71, he sat in the seventh position. The young driver confirmed that the car was much better and really fast in the first few laps of a run. A four-car incident in turn one brought out the red flag on lap 78, and Blaney moved up to fourth.

The green flag was displayed on lap 80 with Blaney in the fourth position. He drove into third by turn one with the leaders racing side-by-side in front of him. The High Point, N.C., native drove deep into turn three and passed both cars on the inside to take the lead when the field logged the next lap. Blaney held the lead for the next 21 laps. Alex Bowman drove past the No. 11 Accell Construction/Heavy Duty/Ruston Transport Chevrolet during the lap-103 restart, but Blaney regained the lead the next lap.

Blaney extended his lead by 2.4 seconds and crossed the finish line for his first NASCAR win in just his third start. In his previous NASCAR starts, Blaney tallied an eighth- and 10th-place finish in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East races at Richmond International Raceway and Iowa Speedway, respectively.

“The first half of the race wasn’t very good for us,” explained Blaney. We were really tight, and we were lucky to stay in 11th. We came in and Trent made some amazing changes to the car. We darted right up to the lead there in 15 laps. After we got the lead, I knew we had them. We were riding around there and maintaining quick speed.

“It was a really exciting night,” the Casino Arizona 125 winner continued. “This is definitely the biggest win of my career so far. It is fun to coming to the West races. I always like to come to the K&N races because they teach me a lot, especially racing with Greg Pursley and Bowman. They are a lot of fun to race with. It is nice to run on NASCAR tracks and get a little experience. It was special to have most of my family was here, especially my dad, and we had a lot of people from Accell Construction and Heavy Duty, so that was really cool to be able to celebrate my first NASCAR win with them in victory lane.”

Blaney will compete for the point championship in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) November 26th at Concord Speedway in North Carolina. He is six points behind the point leader Jay Fogleman going into the final race of the season.
