Now, three weeks removed from an 8th place finish in Watkins Glen in the #13 GEICO Sprint Cup Series car, Papis is hoping to score another top finish as an encore. The 2004 Grand-Am champion knows his way around the 2.71-mile road course of Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and he hopes to give team owner James Finch his first win at the Montreal venue.
Phoenix Racing currently resides 13th in the owner standings and they are hoping that a strong effort from Papis will assist in their effort to reach the Top 10. At the very least, they hope to catch Rusty Wallace, whose team rests in the 12th position, just 58 points ahead of the #1 car.
Papis has spent extensive time at the Phoenix Racing shop this week in preparation for the NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge scheduled for August 30th.
“I’ve enjoyed being around the guys and I’m excited about their enthusiasm,” Papis said. “I’m looking forward to driving the #1 Miccosukee car again and trying to finish what we started in 2007. We want to win and that’s what we’re going there for. These guys have worked hard to get this car ready and I’ll do all I can to get them a great result.”
Papis will hit the track at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec, for the opening practice session at 9:00 AM (ET) on Saturday, August 29th. Qualifying will follow at 4:40 PM (ET).
The NAPA Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge is at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec, on Sunday, August 30th. The race will be telecast live on ESPN2 at 2:00 PM (ET), while the Motor Racing Network (MRN) will carry the live radio broadcast.
