(Nov. 21, 2011) — NASCAR’s future was front and center Monday night as four champions in two national series were crowned.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., 24 and Austin Dillon, 21, officially were proclaimed champions of the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, respectively, on the Americana Ballroom stage at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel.

Both were honored with their first NASCAR national series titles. Each became champion in the season following a rookie-of-the-year performance. Dillon becomes the youngest champion in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ 17-year history. Both champions won twice during the 2011 season.

Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 60 Ford Mustang won the NASCAR Nationwide Series Owner Championship, as driver Carl Edwards won eight times. The title is the second in the series for Jack Roush, his previous owner championship coming in 2002. It also marked the first time that the same owner claimed both the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver and owner titles with different teams.

Kevin Harvick Inc. claimed its third NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Owner Championship. DeLana Harvick’s No. 2 Chevrolet Silverado posted seven victories with three different drivers in adding to KHI’s owner titles from 2007 and 2009.

Timmy Hill, an 18-year-old Maryland competitor, won NASCAR Nationwide Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors by a single point, tying the series’ closest decision for that award. Dillon’s Richard Childress Racing teammate Joey Coulter, 21, won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award, the second time the same organization claimed both championship and rookie laurels.

Elliott Sadler, Justin Allgaier, Aric Almirola and Reed Sorenson finished second through fifth in the championship standings and were honored along with Stenhouse in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Johnny Sauter, James Buescher, Ron Hornaday Jr. and Timothy Peters were second through fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series final points and joined Dillon on stage.

After a fan vote on NASCAR.com, in which more than 215,000 combined votes were cast, each series’ Most Popular Driver was revealed. Sadler and Dillon were chosen by the fans in the NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, respectively. Each was honored for the first time.

SPEED’s Rick Allen and Krista Voda hosted the event, which will air on Dec. 2 from 7-9 p.m. ET on SPEED, prior to the live telecast of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony from Las Vegas.

As it was the entire season, the race proved to be a battle for Blake Koch with fellow rookie contender, Timmy Hill. Blake’s Daystar.com No. 81 team ran tooth-and-nail with Hill’s No. 15 all race, but came up two spots short in the Rookie of the Year chase.

“My team was behind me 100% all season long. I’m so grateful to have worked with them and for my sponsor, Daystar Television Network,” said Blake Koch. “We came up just short but I would have never dreamed to be in that situation at my home race track in front of all my friends and family.”

Driving the Bullet Liner / Foametix No. 82 Dodge, Reed Sorenson finished off his 2nd best season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with a 25th place finish at Homestead. The result gave Sorenson a top-5 finish in the season long driver’s standings and a place in the Nationwide Series banquet Monday night in Miami, Florida. Reed will be recognized for another great season in which he racked up one win, seven top-5’s, and 18 top-10’s.

Blake Koch finished his season 18th in the point’s standings, even while not racing in two races earlier in the year. The MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 remains 25th in the owner’s points, meaning they will be locked into the first 5 races of 2012.

With a long off-season starting today, MacDonald Motorsports prepares to be even stronger in 2012. A lot of opportunities for drivers at MacDonald Motorsports are available in 2012 while the team plans to make the necessary adjustments to become a top-10 team. We would like to thank all of our sponsors this season for everything they did and their partnership with our team.

FORD RACING NOTES AND QUOTES

Ford 300,

November 19, 2011

Homestead-Miami Speedway

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. POST RACE PRESS CONFERENCE

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP?

“It is unbelievable. There are a lot of people that have worked really hard for this. My family has sacrificed a lot. Jack Roush and all these guys on our team, they were with us when we were struggling and they never gave up last year. Everybody at Ford Racing, Blackwell Angus Beef and Cargill, everybody has worked really hard and rallied together to be a team effort. Our cars back at the shop are phenomenal and all the guys that work hard there. Everybody at Roush Yates engines. It is a total team effort and it means the world to bring this championship to Jack and be a little bit of the history that he has in this sport. For Ford to get the manufacturers and Jack to get the owners it was for sure a huge team effort. Mike Kelley never let us down. He rallied us, even when we weren’t good and I would get a little mad out there on the race track he straightened me up and helped us keep digging.”

MIKE KELLEY, crew chief No. 6 Ford Mustang – WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE THE CREW CHIEF OF THE 2011 NATIONWIDE CHAMIPIONS?

“Just like Ricky said, it means a lot. I heard Carl say the other day that it isn’t about the trophy that you get but the journey you take to get there. I couldn’t say that anymore for working with Ricky the last 16 or 18 months together. We had tough times last year and it was documented very well. Anyone could have walked away. Jack could have turned his back on him, Ford could have and our guys could have. There were a lot of tough days and grim nights back at the shop. Nobody did though. I am so proud of my guys and Jack and Ford for sticking behind Ricky and seeing it through. To come through what we did all last year and during the off season we really put our heads down and we weren’t picked to be the favorite and that is probably what helped us the most. We were kind of overshadowed by the Elliott Sadler’s and the Allgaier’s and Sorensen’s and that kinda gave us a fight and desire back at the shop to make sure we came out strong. It was a total team effort. It wasn’t me. I have a great engineering staff and we moved our shop. Jack let us move down to the Cup shop in Concord and that was a big plus for us. The cars that we get are second to none out there and the engines are second to none. We never quit. We had bad days at the beginning of the year and we learned as a group on fuel mileage and strategy. I feel like we gave up a couple wins based on that. I am proud of the effort of this team during the hard times. We dug in there and finished off strong.”

JACK ROUSH, owner, No. 6 Ford Mustang – WE MADE HISTORY TONIGHT AS A TEAM WON THE DRIVER AND OWNERS CHAMPIONSHIP WITH TWO DIFFERENT PRIMARY DRIVERS. CONGRATULATIONS JACK.

“When Carl won his Nationwide championship in 2007 I didn’t win the owners championship and I didn’t know what I did wrong. I didn’t do anything more wrong than I did right this time. It is an honor given to team owners that is really at the mercy of the efforts of the crew chiefs and drivers and the crew. I am glad to be sharing the honors with Carl and with Ricky and with Mike Beam and Mike Kelley. One thing I want to say, and I have been doing this for my 24th year and this is my third Nationwide championship that I have helped a driver win, but Ricky sits here tonight because of the sacrifice and dedication of a great family.

Without his mother and father, I am looking at his mom across the room here, without their sacrifice and dedication and determination to see to it Ricky had everything he needed to develop into the driver he has become it wouldn’t happen. People like myself or Tony Stewart or other owners that have the race cars would never find a Ricky Stenhouse without the family doing all they have to do and the dark days before it really goes public. Mike Kelley did a great job this year, Mike Beam did a great job behind the scenes. Carl Edwards provided great leadership from a driver point of view. Trevor Bayne did a great job challenging Ricky in some ways and supporting him in others. It has been a great team effort that we are celebrating tonight but I am especially thankful and respectful of the sacrifice of the whole Stenhouse family that they made to get Ricky where he is.”

STENHOUSE CONTINUED – IS THE THE BIGGEST THING TO HAPPEN TO OLIVE BRANCH?

“I would say so. It is going to be cool. I plan on taking the trophy when I got to the Christmas parade as Grand Marshal December 3rd. It will be a good homecoming for sure. There are a lot of people back there that are really supportive of what we are doing. The whole school system and everybody down there. It is really cool to have a community behind you like that.”

YOU WERE IN THE TOP FIVE IN POINTS ALL YEAR BEFORE MOVING TO FIRST AND STAYING THERE. WAS THERE A MOMENTUM SHIFT AFTER YOU GOT TO FIRST?

“We look at it as one whole year. We got the lead a couple times and lost it but that last time we got it we were bound and determined not to give it back. We wanted to seal it up before coming to Homestead. We did the best job we could and it was just a whole year of total team effort and really working to not make mistake on pit road and not making mistakes as a driver and crew chief. I think at the end of the year we really limited our mistakes we made in our first half the year that gave those points leads back to other people. That was the main thing we focused on.”

WHAT WAS THE ONE BIGGEST LESSON YOU LEARNED FROM JACK DURING THE TROUBLES LAST YEAR?

“The one biggest thing I think I learned from everything Jack has done for me is that he cares about me as a person and really wanted me to succeed. If he didn’t care he wouldn’t put me in the body shop. That is one thing I learned from my dad. He was tough on my growing up but it was always for a reason. Jack has been an awesome team owner. He has done a lot of great things in NASCAR and I am glad to be a part of this one little thing. He has been doing it a long time. He has his ways of doing things and you have to look at the positives from it. I think that was the biggest thing I learned.”

JACK ROUSH CONTINUED – WHAT WAS IT YOU SAW IN RICKY THAT MADE YOU INSIST ON PUSHING HIM TO THE POINT TO SEE IF HE HAD WHAT IT TOOK?

“Ricky was extraordinarily talented. Every challenge we gave him with a new race track or problem with a car as we changed the car Ricky was bright and quick and talented in meeting those challenges. The thing that was always there when you would reach a situation when it was clear that you could go down this or that path and Mike Beam or Mike Kelley or myself decided to go down a certain path Ricky always went along with it. He never called his dad for support and said we were being to hard on him, he just went along with the program. That is what a rookie needs to do. He needs to go with the program with the people looking after him and our group had his interests in mind.

The other thing was that he was just driven to be competitive to the extent of self destruction to start with. It is much easier to temper that and deal with that that it is for someone that doesn’t want it as bad as those next to them. They couldn’t realize the ultimate prize. Ricky wanted it bad and he raised himself to be a race car driver. This was his opportunity and he tried to hang on to it too tight to start with and couldn’t realize the success there for him but very quickly we got over that.”

RICKY STENHOUSE CONTINUED – THIS IS THE FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP UNDER THE NEW FORMAT. YOU ARE THE CHAMPION WITH TWO WINS. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT BEING THE FIRST CHAMPION IN THIS NEW FORMAT?

“It means just as much. We race week in and week out with those guys. We gave them a run for their money here tonight. Ultimately my goal is to go out there and win the drivers and owners championship. We finished third in the owners championship so we ran really strong all year. We beat Carl, we beat Brad, we passed those guys and raced Kyle Busch. I think as a race team and me as a driver I felt like we are just as good as those guys. I think that racing up there and beating them definitely makes this championship worth it.”

YOU FINISHED STRONG.

“This race track is one of my favorites. I wish we came here twice at least. Last year was the first year here. I had a lot of fun and this is just my style of race track. You can drive it in hard, let it slide up to the wall and get back in the gas and really hang it out, it just reminds me a lot of sprint car racing. Last year, we finished fourth and ran really strong and this year we just came up one spot short and maybe one corner short, but, man, it was fun racing those guys. We were sideways, turning right, trying to keep it off the fence, getting into the fence every now and then, and to race up there with Carl, Brad, Denny, Clint Bowyer, Elliott Sadler, they’re some of the best in the business and to be up there racing with them is fun.”

AT WHAT POINT DID YOU KNOW THE TITLE WAS YOURS AND DID IT CHANGE YOUR PHILOSOPHY?

“We were going 100 percent there from the start. It’s tough to get me to back down any. I’m not good at riding around, so I’m not sure what lap it was, Mike Kelley came over and told me we were good to go, that we had won the championship, but we still stayed focused and I think I drove 110 percent after that, so that was the only thing that really changed.”

WAS THERE A TURNING POINT FOR YOU AND YOUR TEAM THIS SEASON?

“I can think of two. Early in the year when we led laps at Bristol, ran up there with Kyle and I was kind of playing around with him the whole time. Talking to Kyle after he was like, ‘Man, you had the best car.’ We made a mistake on fuel mileage and we made a mistake as a race team getting lined up and we got caught two laps down, so I think we rallied together and we worked on our fuel mileage with Ford and everybody at Roush Fenway and Roush Yates, worked on our fuel mileage, and we kind of got a direction there and that really helped us. And then Indy when we led 190 laps and we came up a couple spots short. That was pretty tough for us, but we were bound and determined to win some more races and really run up front and dig hard, and Mike was the one that kind of rallied everybody together and kept everybody digging.”

MIKE KELLEY CONTINUED –

“I kind of agree with him. Early on in the year we kind of made a few mistakes and left a lot of points on the table, a lot more than we ever thought, and I really feel if we would have been a little smarter, a little better earlier in the year, we’d have been right in the middle of that owner’s championship, and that was our goal from the beginning. But the thing that meant a lot to me is we sat down in January and we circled a bunch of dates on the calendar for Ricky’s experience level on the road course races, we kind of had a goal, we said we’d have to be 25 points in the lead coming into the last two road course race swing knowing that Elliott had a lot of experience and Ricky had never been to Watkins Glen.

We knew we’d take our lumps there, but if we could get out of there, we didn’t care if it was a one-point lead or a two-point lead, we would tell ourselves on the way home that we came out of there with the lead and now it was ours to hold on to the last 10 races of the year, kind of really laid into Ricky’s schedule – a bunch of short tracks thrown in there with some mile-and-a-halfs that the cars have been good on.

When we made it through those two road course races, I don’t know if it was six, seven, eight points or something, we came out of there with the lead and I remember looking at him on the plane and I told him, ‘Picture that we came in here five points behind and we actually came out six points ahead and we’ll look at it that way, instead of saying we lost 10 today.’ We got the guys rallied back at the shop and said, ‘We’ve only got to turn left from here on in and Ricky can do that as good as anybody out there.’ Lack of experience or not, he’s as talented as anyone I’ve ever seen behind the wheel.”

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. CONTINUED – AT THE START OF THE YEAR MANY PEOPLE DIDN’T HAVE YOU IN THEIR TOP FIVE. DID YOU USE THAT AS MOTIVATION?

“We definitely used that as motivation. We felt like at the end of last year, Mike Kelley and I were sitting down at the banquet watching Brad get the trophy, we told each other right there that as strong as we were running at the end of the year, running up in the top five with the Cup guys, that we were going for that championship and that was before they ever changed the point system. Obviously, they changed the point system and we still weren’t in sight to do that from the media’s perspective, but we felt like as a race team we could do that, I felt like as a driver I was just as good as anybody else out there, and if we put everything together, then we knew we had a shot at this championship. But it was just fun. You all have been doing this a long time and I’m just getting started, so it was good to come out here and get this championship.”

HAVE YOU GOTTEN OUT OF YOUR RACE CAR WHAT YOU WANTED TODAY? “I think so. We started off way on the tight side and ended up way on the loose side so I was like ‘Hey, let’s shoot for the middle’ and I think we got a good lap in with our Shell/Pennzoil Dodge. We’ve had some poles this year. I don’t know what that run will get us, but it’s just neat to know that you’re in contention on Fridays or Saturdays when it’s qualifying day because you’ve got Penske horsepower and you’ve got a group of guys that are committed.”

YOU AND BRAD KESELOWSKI ARE CURRENTLY AT THE TOP OF THE BOARD. “We ran the same speed which means we did our job. That’s all we could get out of our Penske Dodges. It’s been a great season for us in qualifying. I don’t know if that’ll be pole material, but our Shell/Pennzoil guys have been working hard. We just feel real proud of the way we’ve qualified this year and put ourselves in Chase contention. We’ll see what we can give ‘em tomorrow in the afternoon race. With the season ending, it’s tough to see it go.”

HOW BIG WOULD WINNING THIS RACE BE GOING INTO THE OFF SEASON? “We’ve been hot, we’ve been cold; I guess it’s our description through the Chase as well as leading up to the Chase. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us win if we can get it all put together right. Last week, we had a winning car and we threw it away with fuel mileage.”

WERE YOUR SURPRISED AT HOW MUCH THE TRACK CHANGED? “It always picks up a little bit. I’m just hoping that the rest of the guys have to battle the sun because we were in full sun. We’ll see. We’re happy with that lap and if we end up tenth, that’ll be perfect.”

BRAD KESELOWSKI (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger) Qualified 5th
YOU HAD A NICE QUALIFYING RUN DESPITE A LITTLE SLIP UP DURING YOUR LAP? “Yeah, you’re going to slip up a bit if you have the car right and you’re pushing it hard enough. It’s amazing that Kurt and I both started off bad, but we kept working on our cars and it looks like we’ve made some headway. I’m not sure a 39.40 (second) lap is good or bad, but so far it looks OK. Kurt and I have been on top of each other for time. We’ll just have to see how it plays out for the race. I’m really proud of where we’re at with our team.”

HOW MUCH DID THAT QUICK CLOUD COVER HELP YOUR LAP? “Probably a little bit. I’m not sure if I had it or the next guy had it, but clouds never hurt.”

WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND FROM PRACTICE TO QUALIFYING THAT HELPED YOUR LAP? “We threw everything at it. We were not very good at all in practice. It’s kind of been the story of our season of late. We’ve been qualifying much better than we’ve been racing. Hopefully, this weekend it changes. I think that we made some big gains in practice that should apply to our race setup.”

REED SORENSON (No. 7 SPEED Energy/MAPEI Dodge Charger R/T) DNQ
“We picked up three tenths so yeah, that’s good for us. It’s been tough. We’ll see if it makes it. It’ll be close.”

YOU PRACTICE IN THE MORNING, QUALIFY IN THE AFTERNOON AND WILL RACE INTO THE EVENING TOMORROW. IS IT A GUESS TO FIND THE RIGHT SETUP? “I think so. The Nationwide race I think starts at 4:30 and it’s quite a bit of change. It usually starts out really free and then the track changes a little bit once it gets dark.”

WILL YOU RUN SOME RACES FOR ROBBY GORDON NEXT SEASON? “Yeah, maybe. I don’t think he knows what he’s doing yet. He’s doing the Baja this weekend and he asked me to come out here and do it. I’ve been trying to help him when I can. His guys are actually in Mexico all week, the ones that work on this car. They’ve been real busy too, so hopefully it will make the race.”

No. 30 ‘Bienvenidos a NASCAR’ Chevrolet News and Notes

Turner Motorsports welcomes Nelson Piquet Jr. … Turner Motorsports is pleased to welcome NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) standout Nelson Piquet Jr. to the seat of the No. 30 Chevrolet for this weekend’s Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Piquet Jr. made his NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) debut at Watkins Glen International in 2010. In his lone NNS start, the Brazil native brought home a seventh-place finish after qualifying in the 10th position.

NCWTS notes… As Piquet Jr. prepares for his first NNS race of 2011, the 26-year-old is wrapping up his rookie pursuit for the NCWTS championship. Over the course of 24 starts this season, he has captured five top-five and nine top-10 finishes, leading 52 laps along the way. He sits 10th in the championship point standings and is just five markers down in the fierce battle for the series’ Rookie of the Year honors.

Calling the shots… This weekend, Piquet Jr. will work with veteran crew chief Stewart Cooper. Cooper has worked with several drivers in 2011 including Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, Boris Said, James Buescher and Ricky Carmichael.

This week’s Impala… The No. 30 team will round out the 2011 season this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway hitting the track with chassis TMS-310. This chassis made its debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where Kahne drove it to a fifth-place finish after starting in the seventh spot. Buescher also piloted TMS-310 two weeks ago at Texas Motor Speedway, finishing in the 17th spot.

Bienvenidos a NASCAR… In support of NASCAR’s ‘Bienvenidos a NASCAR’ program, Piquet Jr.’s No. 30 Chevrolet will sport a special program decal this weekend. In addition to decals on entries in all three of NASCAR’s top series, the program will provide bilingual brand ambassadors, virtual garage tours and guidebooks of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage. There will be a Spanish language broadcast available via scanner (via ESPN Deportes), as well as ‘Bienvenidos a NASCAR’ ticket packages though Homestead-Miami Speedway and a Chino y Nacho pre-race concert on Sunday, Nov. 20th at 12 p.m. at the Coca-Cola Stage.

Turner Motorsports: A look back… In 33 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 21 top-five and 62 top-10 finishes. Mark Martin kicked off the season capturing the team’s first-ever NASCAR win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March. It was Justin Allgaier’s turn in June when he nabbed his second-career win at Chicagoland Speedway and Reed Sorenson rounded the month out winning his first NNS race with the organization at Road America. Both of Turner Motorsports’ championship-contending drivers are inside the top-10 in the driver point standings with Allgaier in third and Jason Leffler in sixth.

In 24 NCWTS races in 2011, Turner Motorsports’ entries have earned 13 top-five and 31 top-10 finishes. The organization has earned five pole awards with Buescher earning three, and Carmichael and Steve Arpin capturing one each. Buescher is currently sitting third in the championship point standings, 28 markers out of the lead.

Nelson Piquet Jr. on racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to get in the Nationwide car for Turner Motorsports this weekend. I have never done double duty before, so I am really looking forward to it. It is going to be a lot of seat time, more then I have ever done before in one weekend. I want to thank Steve Turner for giving me the opportunity to get in one of his cars, and I am looking forward to bringing home a solid finish in the No. 30 machine.”

The end of an era… In this weekend’s 2011 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Jason Leffler will make his final start behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine. Leffler has piloted this car for the last six seasons, making headlines for the world’s largest haircare brand with his famous faux-hawk hairdo. Leffler will continue to represent Great Clips in select projects, with his long-time sponsor serving as his primary sponsor in his quest for victory in the 2012 Chili Bowl Nationals in January.

Sixth in the standings…. Leffler has secured sixth-place in the 2011 driver championship point standings after a season that has included two top-fives and 12 top-10 finishes with nine laps led. He has an average starting position of 13.0 and an average finishing position of 13.9.
Leffler a solid contender at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS)… In eight NNS starts at the 1.5-mile oval, Leffler has captured three top-10′s as well as a pair of fourth-place finishes (2003 and 2008). He has an average start of 17.9 and an average finish of 13.5.

Turner Motorsports: A look back… In 33 Nationwide Series events in 2011, Turner Motorsports-prepared entries have notched three wins, 21 top-five and 62 top-10 finishes. The organization has earned five pole awards with James Buescher earning three, and Ricky Carmichael and Steve Arpin capturing one each. Buescher is currently sitting third in the championship point standings, 28 markers out of the lead.

Happy 10-Year Anniversary, Great Clips… This season marks Great Clips’ 10-year anniversary as a primary sponsor in the NNS. The Minneapolis-based Great Clips, Inc., which is currently the longest-running primary sponsor in the series, came onto the scene in 2001 as a primary sponsor of Akins Motorsports No. 38 entry, then driven by Christian Elder.

“I really only have one goal going into this weekend and that is taking this 38 team and Great Clips back into victory lane. It’s been an up and down season but I know we have it in us to go out there and get the win. I can’t say enough about this team! These are some of the hardest working guys in the garage and I couldn’t ask for a better team to have behind me. I also want to thank Great Clips for their years of support. It has been a privilege representing them both on and off the track for the last six years. They are an amazing company to work with and I have enjoyed working with not just the corporate staff in Minneapolis, but the thousands of Great Clips franchisees, managers and stylists around the country as well. I look forward to continuing my relationship with Great Clips with events like the Chili Bowl Nationals in January.”

A fifth place finish in the driver’s standings will mark Reed’s second best season of his career. In 2005, Sorenson finished the season 4th in the standings with two wins driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. This season, Reed has driven 29 races for Turner Motorsports and now four races with MacDonald Motorsports. This year, Sorenson added a win to his resume at Road America as well as seven top-5’s, and 18 top-10’s.

Reed at Homestead….. In four previous NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at the 1.5 mile progressively banked oval in South Florida, Reed Sorenson’s best finish was a 4th. This came in 2004 in only his 5th ever start in the series driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. Reed will be looking better that finish this Saturday in his Bullet Liner/Foametix No. 82 Dodge.

Reed Sorenson

Meet Reed at Fan-Fest….. Fans will have the chance to meet Reed on Thursday, November 17th at Homestead in the NASCAR Championship Drive Fan-Fest events. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a 20 minute, on-stage Question and Answer session with the drivers. Then at 5:20, fans will have the chance to meet and get autographs from the participating drivers until 6:00 p.m.

Rough weekend at Phoenix….. The Phoenix race was definitely one that Reed and the Bullet Liner/Foametix No. 82 team would like to forget. After getting damage early on in the race, Reed was back on the track before getting a flat right front tire and slamming into the outside wall. Reed was un-injured in the accident but the same couldn’t be said for the MacDonald Motorsports No. 82.

Wypall 200 at Phoenix International Raceway

November 12, 2011

Race Highlights:

* Brian Scott and the Shore Lodge Team tested all day on Thursday at the newly configured Phoenix International Raceway in preparation for Saturday’s event. On Friday in the final NASCAR Nationwide Series practice, the team was top five on the speed chart and had one of the most consistent cars on the track.

* Scott went out 43rd in qualifying, but the No. 11 Shore Lodge Toyota was extremely loose on his attempt. His lap time earned him the 24th starting spot for the 200-lap race.

Brian Scott

* Despite the starting spot, Scott and the Shore Lodge Team were extremely optimistic about the race. Unfortunately they never had the opportunity to race. On the green-flag lap, Scott was hooked in the left rear and sent spinning into the wall. Scott took the mandatory trip to the care center and was treated and released without injury. The No. 11 Toyota however was beyond repair and the team was unable to get it back on the track. Scott was scored in the 41st position.

* Scott sits ninth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver standings with one race remaining on the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule. He is six points behind Michael Annett in eighth place. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has a 41 point lead in the standings over Elliott Sadler in second heading into the season finale.

Next Up: Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Reed Sorenson drove The Bullet Liner/Foametix No. 82 Dodge to a solid 16th place result. Blake Koch netted a 22nd place finish in his Daystar.com No. 81 Chevy earning him Rookie of the Race and a tie with Timmy Hill for Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year.

Starting 22nd, Reed Sorenson ran as high as 14th in the Bullet Liner/Foametix No. 82 during the course of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at TMS. Running 21st with 50 laps to go, Reed and the MacDonald Motorsports team scratched and clawed their way to an impressive 16th place finish.

Blake Koch had his best qualifying result of the year with an outstanding effort to put him 13th on the starting grid. During the course of the race, the Daystar.com No. 81 seemed to have a motor problem developing. The car just wasn’t putting out the power that the team was hoping for but the team pushed hard to the finish. The 22nd place result was enough to earn Blake another Sunoco Rookie of the Race award. This puts him into a tie with Timmy Hill for Rookie of the Year with just two races remaining.

“I’m so pumped heading in these final two races being tied with Timmy,” explained Blake Koch. “I know our Daystar team can pull this off if we can keep running the way we have been the last few races.”

Reed Sorenson remains fifth in the NNS driver’s standings but just five points behind Justin Allgaier and Aric Almirola, who are tied third. Blake Koch stays solidly in 18th, while the MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 remains 25th in the owner’s standings.

Burtin Polymer Laboratories (BPL) has announced that they will be the primary sponsor on Reed Sorenson’s No. 82 Dodge for the remainder of the season, starting last Saturday at Texas. MacDonald Motorsports and Sorenson and very happy to represent BPL in these final races while growing exposure for their great products, The Bullet Liner and Foametix Spray Foam Solution.

Next week, Blake Koch will be in his normal Daystar.com No. 81 Dodge, while Reed Sorenson will be in The Bullet Liner/Foametix No. 82 Dodge. The Wypall 200 at Phoenix International Raceway can be seen live this Saturday at 3:30 pm on ESPN2.

“It was a pretty good lap for the Miller Lite Dodge. I’ve never been a good qualifier here, but I think we may get a top 10 or top 15 out of that run. We picked up about three tenths from practice and the car seems very balanced. I’ve think that we have something to work with for Sunday.”

IS THE TENDANCY TO TRY AND MAKE UP THE 27-POINT DEFICIT IN ONE RACE? “Sure it is. It’s hard to gain a lot of points in one race, so you have to be patient. You can’t win the championship in one race, but you sure can lose it.”

KURT BUSCH (No. 22 AAA Dodge Charger R/T) Qualified 14th
“I think that we have a fast AAA Dodge for Sunday. We were just a touch loose and I was late getting back to the throttle.”

REED SORENSON (No. 7 SPEED/MAPEI Energy Dodge Charger R/T) DNQ
“It’s been a handful all day with this SPEED Energy Dodge. The car has been really loose. We made big, big changes that made the car better. It’s almost like we needed to start like that to be where we are at for qualifying. We’ve just been too loose. We can’t get any grip in the back of the car. The front of the car seems to be OK. We just haven’t found that total balance yet.”

A lot of preparation went on in the shop the past few weeks to be ready for the final 3-race stretch. This week, the haulers will be staying out west and travelling straight from Texas to Phoenix while a few of the crew members will be flying out early to Phoenix to prepare for the race. With the Rookie of the Year on the line, the Daystar.com team is going to put as much into these final weeks as possible to win.

Blake Koch on Texas….. “Man I’m just so excited to get back in my race car this weekend,” said Blake. “Texas is an awesome track that we ran strong at earlier this year and I think we will be even better this time. Everyone from Daystar is going to be at the track too so I want to put in a good run for them.”

Reed in the No. 82 for final 3 races….. Now sitting 5th in points, Sorenson has secured a ride in the MacDonald Motorsports No. 82 Dodge for the remainder of the season. The team however is searching for more sponsorship on the racecar. Any interested parties should contact MacDonald Motorsports.

Reed @ Texas….. Since 2004, Reed Sorenson has made 7 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts and 9 Sprint Cup Series starts at Texas. In his 7 NNS starts at the fast 1.5 mile track, Reed has 4 top-10’s and 3 top-5 finishes. MacDonald Motorsports is really excited to have Reed on board this weekend and are hoping for Reed to add another top-10 to his Texas resume.

Home race for DAYSTAR….. Being based in nearby Bedford, TX, Daystar Television Network will have a large presence at the racetrack this weekend. The Lamb family, founders of Daystar, will be on hand at the track cheering on their driver and team. Blake will be a very busy man this weekend as well. Interviews and speaking engagements will fill his schedule in the home town of his primary sponsor. Daystar does an excellent job of using NASCAR to bring more and more people to the lord and Blake helps them out in any way that he can.

Rookie of the year….. Three drivers now sit within two points with 3 races remaining in the season. If Blake can manage to win Rookie of the Race as he did earlier this year at Texas, it will bring him to a tie with Timmy Hill. Last race Blake was able to beat both Hill and Ryan Truex to move within one point of Hill. Let’s hope the Daystar.com No. 81 team can keep that momentum up this week and bring home another Rookie of the Race award.

Follow Blake on Social Media….. Keep up with everything that Blake is doing by following him on Facebook and Twitter. Facebook at www.facebook.com/BlakeKRacing and twitter @BlakeKochRacing.

Vote for Blake for NNS Most Popular Driver….. Remember to vote every day for Blake Koch for NASCAR Nationwide Series Most Popular Driver. The link to vote is http://nationwide.nascar.com/news/110705/2011-mpd-nationwide/index.html.

(MOORESVILLE, NC) October 27, 2011 – MacDonald Motorsports is proud to announce that Reed Sorenson will remain in the No. 82 Dodge Challenger for the final 3 races of the NASCAR Nationwide Series season. After leaving Turner Motorsports three weeks ago, Sorenson joined MacDonald Motorsports at Kansas and also the following week at Charlotte. The team however is seeking out more sponsorship to help finish off the season.

“I’m really happy to have Reed in the No. 82 for the final 3 races,” explained Randy MacDonald. “He’s a great racer and I want to try and help him finish the season out. If we can get some more sponsorship on the car for these last few races it would be a big help though.”

Following Reed’s arrival at MacDonald Motorsports 3 weeks ago, the media was buzzing in his garage stall. A top-5 driver in points changing teams with 5 races remaining in the season in virtually unheard of. MacDonald Motorsports jumped at the chance of having a top driver in their car and helping Reed finish of his season on the right foot.

Two weeks ago at NASCAR’s home track in Charlotte, NC, Sorenson drove the Crusader Staffing/THINK PINK No. 82 Dodge. The car was very quick in practice and he finished the final session 11th on the board out of 50 cars. Sorenson followed that up by earning the team their best starting position of the season with a 15th place qualifying result. He was strong in the race as well, running much of the time inside the top-15.

Reed has had a stellar season thus far with 1 win, 7 top-5’s, and 18 top-10s. He currently sits 5th in the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series standings. Over his 8 year career in NASCAR, Sorenson has racked up 5 Sprint Cup Series top-5’s, 4 Nationwide Series wins, and 38 Nationwide Series top-5 finishes.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for Sorenson and the MacDonald Motorsports No. 82 for the final three races of the year. The next event takes place November 5th at Texas Motor Speedway while the following two take place in Phoenix, AZ and Homestead, FL. Interested parties can contact MacDonald Motorsports at any time for more information.

About MacDonald Motorsports

The MacDonald family name has been in the racing circles since owner, Randy MacDonald, started his own driving career in the 1980’s. The provisions made by Randy’s father, Merril “Doc” MacDonald, and mother Pat helped Randy start racing professionally and establish his own company. Randy’s father Doc helped him create business relationships and carry out other important functions of the team until finishing his own race in March of 2007. Despite his death, Doc’s impact on the team will not end, as MacDonald Motorsports continues on in his honor and memory.
