But NASCAR Senior Vice President for Racing Operations Steve O’Donnell said Thursday that improvements are needed at the track.

“Obviously we need SAFER barriers at that facility,” he said, referred to the impact-absorbing wall system at NASCAR tracks that Mobile lacks.

Other infrastructure improvements are also needed for the track to be able to handle a NASCAR race, but he said NASCAR wouldn’t go into those until the SAFER barrier system is in place.

The Truck Series started out on short tracks and would like to race at more short tracks in the future but O’Donnell acknowledged that the expense of making improvements like SAFER barriers makes it difficult.

SAFER barriers are not a problem for the ARCA Series, which will race in Mobile in March.

The series released its 2012 television schedule, among other announcements.

Officials from ARCA and SPEED jointly announced the 2012 SPEED television schedule for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, comprised of 10 events to be televised live or same-day delayed on the popular network. SPEED in-race analyst Phil Parsons, host for this evening’s banquet, was on hand for the announcement.

SPEED will kick off its live flag-to-flag ARCA coverage at Daytona International Speedway with the 49th running of the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at 4 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, February 18.

In addition to Daytona, other events scheduled for live and/or same-day coverage in 2012 include Talladega Superspeedway on May 4, Toledo Speedway on May 20, events at Pocono Raceway on June 9 and August 4, Michigan International Speedway on June 15, Iowa Speedway on July 13, Chicagoland Speedway on July 21, and the season finale at Kansas Speedway on October 19. The late July race at Lucas Oil Raceway will also be televised; series and track officials have not yet determined the race’s exact date.

ARCA’s relationship with SPEED dates back to April 20, 1997, when the network (then Speedvision) covered the ARCA race at Salem (Ind.) Speedway. Since then, SPEED has aired a total of 188 ARCA races, making the 2012 opener at Daytona the 189th.

Before the SPEED announcement, Drager opened the afternoon by providing a short “state of ARCA” address, recognizing series presenting sponsor Menards, and unveiling the logo for ARCA’s 60th Anniversary Season celebration. Drager then introduced Rick Crawford of Mobile International Speedway, which will host the ARCA Racing Series for the first time on March 10. Crawford announced that infield camping for ARCA’s first visit to Mobile has already sold out.

Also speaking was Bob Sargent of Track Enterprises; Sargent’s company will promote the June 2 race at Elko Speedway.

The press conference also served as a weekend welcome to series champion Ty Dillon, who spoke briefly after Drager.

Key series marketing partners and Menards vendor program participants Ansell, Herr’s, and Messina Wildlife Management were recognized. Several teams, including ThorSport Racing, Team BCR Racing, Andy Belmont Racing, and Venturini Motorsports, took the podium to announce new drivers and sponsors for 2012.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards featured 19 events at 16 tracks on its 2011 schedule. The series has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. In 2011, the series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course.

The 2012 ARCA Racing Series schedule is currently available at ARCARacing.com.

Founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in two professional touring series and local weekly events.

- The average start of a winner in the NCWTS at HMS is 6.8

- Don’t forget to vote for Jason White as the NCWTS 2011 Most Popular Driver. You can vote once per day. Voting ends on November 17, 2011. To vote please visit: http://www.nascar.com/news/110705/2011-mpd-truck/index.html

In Good Company: White will make his 129th NCWTS start in this weekend’s Ford 200 at HMS. However, the series veteran is still looking for his first elusive NASCAR win. White would like to join an impressive list of drivers that got their first NCWTS win at Homestead; Dave Rezendes (1996), Kenny Irwin Jr. (1997), Rick Crawford (1998), Mike Wallace (1999), Ted Musgrave (2001).

Homestead Fast Facts: White has led one lap en route to one top-20 finish in three starts at HMS. The Richmond, VA native has an average start of 19.0 coupled with an average finish of 20.07 and has completed 99.5 percent of laps attempted (405 of 407). White’s best start at the 1.5-mile oval is 10th (2009) and his best finish is 16th (2009).

Whatcha Haulin?: White will pilot “JDM07″ from the Joe Denette Motorsports stables in Friday night’s season finale at HMS. This is the same GunBroker.com Chevrolet that White piloted in Pocono (August), Chicago (September) and most recently at Kentucky Speedway (October).

Get to the Point: Following a 12th-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway for White and Joe Denette Motorsports, the No. 23 GunBroker.com team is 18th in the 2011 NCWTS owner point standings. White is 16th in the 2011 NCWTS driver point standings.

White’s 2011 Season Stats:

Starts: 24

Top-5: 2

Top-10: 4

Top-15: 11

Top-20: 15

Best Start: 9th (Kentucky / Nashville, July)

Best Finish: 5th, (Kentucky, July & Talladega, October)

Laps Led: 50

“The mindset for me this weekend is one more, one more shot at a win. This is the last race of the season and I would like nothing more to go out on top and bring home my first NASCAR win; for myself, for my longtime sponsor, GunBroker.com and for my owner, Joe Denette. It’s been an up and down year, we have learned a lot and had some good runs, but at the end of the day, we haven’t won and to me that is how you judge the success of a season. We have been in contention a few times but something has always happened and we haven’t been able to capitalize. I want nothing more than to go to victory lane Friday night.”

“Homestead allows for great side by side racing because of it having so many grooves. As the track has aged, it’s been losing grip which makes the racing that much more exciting.”

The ARCA Mobile 200 will see the national championship stock car tour contest a 200-lap race on the half-mile, semi-banked paved oval on Saturday, March 10. Since the series’ inception in 1953, the series has raced at over 200 different tracks but this will be the first at Mobile International Speedway.

“The 2012 season is ARCA’s 60th, and Mobile will be the first short track on the schedule following the season opener at Daytona in February,” said ARCA president Ron Drager. “ARCA Racing Series short track racing has proven to be highly competitive and entertaining regardless of the venue, and we look forward to bringing our superspeedway-style full-size stock car racing with live pit stops to Mobile in a long distance event.”

Although the event marks ARCA’s first appearance at Mobile, ARCA Racing Series history in Alabama reaches back to 1961 when, on November 5, Ernie Derr won a 250-lap race at Birmingham. ARCA race events at the Fairgrounds in Montgomery in 1962, at Huntsville Speedway in 1963 and 1965, and a long tenure at Talladega Superspeedway (1969-present) have kept ARCA’s presence in Alabama alive over the decades.

“Having the ARCA Racing Series come to Mobile International Speedway is a real honor for me and our track,” said Rick Crawford, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series veteran and the speedway’s manager and promoter. “In the Truck Series we spent many weekends around the country sharing track facilities with the ARCA Racing Series and these guys put on a heck of a show. I can’t wait to see them on my home track. The effort to bring the ARCA Racing Series to Mobile is a team effort, and wouldn’t be possible without the Mobile Convention and Visitors Bureau, Mobile Sports Authority, and our elected officials.”

Opened in 1964, Mobile International Speedway is Alabama’s fastest half mile and is currently host to the Sunoco Gulf Coast Championship Series and Miller Lite Late Model Series, along with a regular schedule of Saturday night racing. Lee and Ida Fields purchased the track in 1972 and for almost 40 years the duo produced “The Fastest Fun Around.” In 2011, the track embarked on a new era of track management when Mobile native, multi-time track champion, and all-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts leader Rick Crawford returned to Mobile to become the track’s manager and promoter.

Mobile International Speedway has a long history with numerous racing legends, having attracted Alabama Gang racers Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, and Red Farmer. Notably, Farmer won his 500th feature race at the track. More recently, ARCA Racing Series and NASCAR contenders like Grant Enfinger and Cale Gale have cut their teeth on the half-mile oval in various forms of racing.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. The series tests the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, annually visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course.

Nashville’s loss might be Alabama’s gain.

When Nashville Superspeedway informed NASCAR this week that it would no longer host any NASCAR Nationwide or Truck Series races it blew a big hole in the 2012 NASCAR schedule.

Rick Crawford, who took over operations at Mobile International Speedway this year, is hoping to step in to fill one of those slots by bringing the Truck Series to South Alabama.

“Absolutely, there’s nothing I would like more than to have the trucks at my home track,” said Crawford, who drove a Ford in the Truck Series for years.

Rick Crawford gives a trophy to Kyle Benjamin, a recent late model race winner at Mobile International Speedway. Crawford said he’d likely have to make some improvements to the track, including possibly doubling its seating capacity.

Mobile seats about 9,000 in the grandstands and can hold more in the infield. That’s smaller than the typical venue the trucks race at today, but most venues have acres of empty seats for a series that started out in the 1990s racing at much smaller tracks.

After a strong 2010 campaign, Tagsby Racing will reunite with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series veteran Rick Crawford and sponsor SUPERSEAL Construction Products in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona International Speedway on February 18th.

Crew Chief Travis Sharpe will once again call the shots for Crawford as he looks to take the No. 73 Chevrolet Silverado to victory lane. Tagsby Racing teamed with Crawford, Sharpe and Superseal three times in 2010 producing a top 10 finish (8th) at Chicagoland Speedway.

The 2011 opening race at Daytona marks the 12th consecutive time that Crawford has raced at the World Center of Speed.
SUPERSEAL Construction Products is the North American market leader in dimpled membranes for dampproofing and waterproofing systems for construction applications. Featuring air gap technology, as well as internal and external moisture control that will last the life of the structure. SUPERSEAL’s high performance air gap products are quickly becoming the dominant leader for most types of construction projects that require dampproofing or waterproofing protection.

TAGSBY RACING: Tagsby Racing is an Ardmore, Oklahoma based team which has competed in over 80 Camping World Truck Series races. Owners Ron Crosby and Joey Sonntag are looking forward to an active and successful season in 2011.

Looking for a little less talk and a lot more action Crawford reteams with Tagsby Racing and crew chief Travis Sharpe for the Smith’s Food and Drug Store 350.

When Crawford climbs behind the wheel of his SUPERSEAL Chevy this weekend, he will add another notch to his Camping World Truck Series starts extending his record to 328 starts. If Las Vegas is the “Entertainment Capital of the World” then Crawford would be Mr. Entertainment at Las Vegas Motorspeedway. Crawford is the only NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver to compete in every race at Vegas where he’s completed more laps and has more top 10s than any other driver. Along with primary sponsorship from SUPERSEAL Crawford will carry South Point Hotel Casino & Spa as an associate sponsor this weekend.

Crawford: “Everybody knows that Las Vegas is one of my favorite cities and I’m ready to get down to business. SUPERSEAL and Tagsby have put together a really nice truck for this weekend. Travis (Sharpe) and I really started to gel in Chicago and we’ve been talking a lot getting ready for Las Vegas. We’re taking the same truck we had in Chicago and he’s been tweaking on it. From staying with the Gaughan’s at the Southpoint to turning laps at Las Vegas Motorspeedway I like everything about Las Vegas and I can’t wait to get there.”

SUPERSEAL Construction Products is the North American market leader in dimpled membranes for dampproofing and waterproofing systems for construction applications. Featuring air gap technology, SUPERSEAL developed the ultimate home waterproofing system that will not only control both internal and external moisture but will also last the life of the structure. SUPERSEAL’s high performance air gap products are quickly becoming the dominant leader for most types of construction projects that require dampproofing or waterproofing protection.

SOUTH POINT HOTEL, CASINO and SPA: Owned and operated by Michael Gaughan, the South Point is located on the South end of Las Vegas Boulevard features a 4,400 seat equestrian center, 25 stories of hotels rooms, gaming, 16 screen theater, 64 lanes of bowling and Gaughan’s world renowned restaurant, Michaels.

TAGSBY RACING: A friendship turned business relationship between Ron Crosby and Joey Sonntag grew in to a Tagsby Racing. The Oklahoma based team has competed in over 70 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and is ramping up for an active second half of the 2010 season.

Making his first start for Tagsby Racing in a Superseal sponsored Chevy Crawford started 21st and charged his way to an 8th place finish. The run to the front earned Crawford, crew chief Travis Sharpe and their Tagsby Racing team the O’Reilly Auto Parts Position Improvement Award.

Every time Crawford slides behinds the wheel of a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series truck he sets a record and after 327 career starts, Crawford left Kansas Speedway in April looking for a ride for the first time in his Truck Series career. Without a ride, Crawford has been mentoring new drivers in the Truck Series and working on getting back in the drivers seat. If absence makes the heart grow fonder, an 11-race absence from the Truck Series had Crawford ready to don a gas soaked fire suit and walk through hell to get to his next ride.

With sponsorship from Superseal Construction Products and a truck from Oklahoma based Tagsby Racing Crawford was reteamed with crew chief Travis Sharpe for the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 at Chicagoland Speedway. With a new team and a new truck the team spent the practice sessions working the bugs out of their Chevy Silverado and preparing for the race. With a concentration on the race setup the team had little time to work on qualifying and Crawford time his Chevy into the 21st position.

With the drop of the green flag Crawford and his Supereseal Silverado were marching to the front and before the halfway point Crawford was in the top 10. Crawford’s Chevy was good on the short run and then tightened up on the long run, the longer the run the tighter the Silverado. With each stop crew chief Travis Sharpe and the Tagsby Team improved the handling of Crawford’s Chevy. The team improved the length of a good handling truck but the Superseal Chevy continued to get tight on the long runs. A late caution played into the team’s hands and a 3-lap shootout was just what Crawford needed. With a cool set of tires Crawford charged his Superseal Chevy from 12th to 8th in the final laps.

Rick Crawford: “You don’t know how much you miss something until you don’t have it anymore. I really appreciate Superseal and Tagsby giving me the opportunity to drive their truck. Travis Sharpe is the best kept secret in the Truck Series garage. I’ve driven 2 of his trucks with 2 different teams and both were fun to drive. Our Chevy Silverado was good on the short run and got tighter as the run went on. I’d love to take what we learned tonight and run this Chevy again in Kentucky.”

Crawford continues to work on a full time ride in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Event: EnjoyIllinois.com 225 (Round 17 of 25)

Series: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

Location: Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. (1.5-mile oval)

Start / Finish: 4th / 1st (Running, completed 154 of 154 laps)

Winner: Kyle Busch of Kyle Busch Motorsports in a green-white-checker finish (Toyota)

Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 Traxxas Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports, continued his winning ways on Friday night by claiming victory in the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill.

Coming off of an historic run last week at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in which Busch became the first driver to sweep all three NASCAR touring series races in one weekend – the Camping World Truck Series race on Wednesday night, the Nationwide Series race on Friday night and the Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday night at the .533-mile oval – the driver of the No. 18 Traxxas Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports didn’t disappoint by driving into Chicagoland’s victory lane for the second consecutive year in the Truck race.

It was Busch’s fourth straight NASCAR win, his fourth Truck Series victory this season, and his second Truck Series win at Chicago. Busch is undefeated at Chicago in the Truck Series.

“I can’t thank Traxxas enough,” said Busch, who now has 79 victories in NASCAR’s top three divisions (Sprint Cup –19, Nationwide – 40, Camping World Truck – 20). “The fastest name in radio control to get with the fastest driver, I guess, tonight, is pretty cool to come to victory lane with these guys the first time out. I can’t wait for the next two that we’ve got at Talladega and Homestead. It’s going to be fun, man. This Toyota Tundra was awesome. It was fun to drive and it was challenging. Todd (Bodine) ran me down and was probably going to pass me there, but I got a run on the outside and I think he slipped a little bit. It’s always fun to race these trucks. Marquis Jets, Gillette, all of the guys on this team, Flexco, they do an awesome job for us. NOS Energy Drink and M&M’s, as well. We’re really proud of everybody here.”

Although Busch dominated the race and led all but 33 of the 154 laps at Chicagoland, the victory wasn’t as easy as it might have seemed for him and his No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports team. The Las Vegas native had to battle through traffic on two consecutive restarts and he had to withstand a late-race challenge by point leader Todd Bodine in the closing laps. But in the end, Busch’s No. 18 Traxxas Toyota Tundra was too strong.

After leading 121 laps, Kyle Busch celebrates in victory lane at Chicagoland Speedway. - Photo Credit: Streeter Lecka / Getty Images for NASCAR

“It was really fun out there tonight,” Busch said. “This Traxxas Toyota Tundra was awesome. It was so fun racing Todd (Bodine) like that. He had enough to hang with us, he just didn’t have enough to get by us. It was awesome to race with those guys. Eric (Phillips, crew chief) and Rick Ren (director of competition) did a great job for us tonight, as well. It’s just really fun to drive these trucks. I love coming to Chicago. It’s kind of like a second home for me. I look forward to coming back here next year.”

After starting fourth on Friday night, Busch wasted no time making his way to the front of the field as he was at the point by lap 13.

The first hiccup of the night for Busch came at lap 81 when he brought his No. 18 Traxxas Toyota to the attention of his crew under caution for four tires, an air pressure adjustment and fuel. Unfortunately, Busch lost five spots on pit road due to a problem with the gas can connecting with the fuel tank.

But restarting sixth didn’t concern Busch as he survived one more caution period before retaking the lead on lap 98.

Busch maintained the top spot until the caution flag came out once again at lap 126. The leaders all decided to pit under caution and while Busch and his No. 18 Traxxas Toyota team opted to take four fresh tires and fuel, five trucks that left pit road before Busch opted for either no tires or only two tires to gain track position. Busch restarted sixth on lap 127, but didn’t stay there for long as he gained three spots in just one lap. And, by the time he crossed the start-finish line on the one lap later, the Traxxas Toyota had retaken the lead.

The Las Vegas native would have one more challenge when a late-race caution forced the race into overtime and a green-white-checker finish. On lap 152, Busch restarted on the outside and held off a challenge by point leader and runner-up finisher Bodine, beating him to the checkered flag by .186 of a second.

“We had issues with the fuel hookup trying to get in there on that second stop, but the guys did a nice job there on pit road. They had good stops tonight,” Busch said. “I was concerned (when the last caution came out). I remember last year. It was really tough to get away from side-by-side. This year, I got clear on him (Bodine) just going down the front straightaway, getting into turn one, there. From there on out, I was worried that he would get a draft on me. These trucks, man, they draft so easily. That’s how I ran him down and got to him the first time. He just didn’t quite have enough to pass us. He had enough to hang with us all night and it was fun, man. Really cool to be out here. I’ve got to thank the fans, thank Camping World and, of course, I don’t have my Electric sunglasses on but I’d like to thank those guys, too. We’re going for five in Kentucky next week, so watch out.”

While Busch is not running the full Camping World Truck Series schedule, the No. 18 Toyota is competing for the owner’s title and maintained the second position in the standings, just 48 points behind the first-place No. 30 truck of Germain Racing.

Johnny Sauter finished third behind Busch and Bodine, while Ron Hornaday Jr., and Justin Lofton took spots four and five. The rest of the top-10 consisted of Aric Almirola, Matt Crafton, Rick Crawford, rookie Austin Dillon and David Starr.

The race featured five caution periods for 21 laps, with 10 drivers failing to finish the 154-lap race which was extended four laps past its scheduled distance due to a green-white-checkered finish.

The next event on the Camping World Truck Series schedule is the Sept. 3 Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. The race starts at 8 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by SPEED beginning with its pre-race show at 7:30 p.m.

Rick Crawford and SUPERSEAL Construction Products are teaming up again for this weekends Enjoyillinois.com 225 at Chicagoland Speedway. Crawford will be behind the wheel of the #73 SUPERSEAL Chevrolet Silverado supplied by Ron Crosby and Joey Sontag’s Tagsby Racing. After a successful pairing in Kansas earlier this year, Travis Sharpe will return to the top of the pit box for Crawford at Chicago.

When Crawford takes the green flag in Chicago he will extend his Camping World Truck Series starts to a series record of 328. This will be Crawford’s first start in a Chevrolet and the firs time he has driven anything other than a Ford in NASCAR competition. In the Series only outing at Chicagoland last season, Crawford qualified 5th and recorded a 4th place finish.

“The last time Rick was in our truck, we received more exposure in one race than we had all season. Not only is he a great spokesman for SUPERSEAL, he can get the job done on the track.” Said Ted Hubert, President of SUPERSEAL Construction Products. “Along with his driving duties we’ve asked Rick to help mentor along our late model driver, Brian Johnson, Jr. With Rick’s guidance we hope to have Brian in more NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races by the end of the season.”

Crawford stated: “I am excited about getting behind the wheel again and I appreciate SUPERSEAL making it possible. Mr. Hubert has been working hard to get SUPERSEAL into the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and this weekend is another step forward. I enjoyed working with Travis (Sharpe) at Kansas and I’m glad we’ll be together again at Chicago. Having made my way to NASCAR through late model racing I’m looking forward to helping Brian (Johnson, Jr.) make the next step up in his career. Its hard to believe that my SUPERSEAL truck will be wearing a bow tie instead of a blue oval this weekend but everything seems to be changing.”

SUPERSEAL Construction Products is the North American market leader in dimpled membranes for dampproofing and waterproofing systems for construction applications. Featuring air gap technology, internal and external moisture but will also last the life of the structure. SUPERSEAL’s high performance air gap products are quickly becoming the dominant leader for most types of construction projects that require dampproofing or waterproofing protection.

TAGSBY RACING: A friendship turned business relationship between Ron Crosby and Joey Sontag grew into Tagsby Racing. The Oklahoma based team has competed in over 70 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races and is ramping up for an active second half of the 2010 Season.
