“George Returns to the Dirt this Labor Day”

George, in the No.31 Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Development Chevrolet Impala, heads to the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds this weekend for the second and final dirt race of the 2010 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards season on Labor Day in the heat and dust at the Southern Illinois 100.
“I’m enthralled to get back on dirt with the ARCA Racing Series,” said George, who has one pervious career start at DuQuoin. “My team of RCR guys has worked hard to get that (dirt) car ready again, and we learned some stuff set -up wise from my end at Springfield. We are looking to run up front and have a strong finish on Labor Day.”
The RCR Development driver is ninth in the ARCA Racing Series driver point standings as he heads to DuQuoin with 3255 points. George qualified a solid 11th and finished 23rd in only his second career start on dirt in the 2009 edition. With just six laps remaining, George fell victim to tight racing and was involved in an incident after running within the top-10 for the majority of the race.
The New York, N.Y. native will make his final appearance in Illinois of the season. It all started last month on the dirt in Springfield before moving to Chicagoland Speedway and returning for the Southern Illinois 100, all of which have consecutively been run in Illinois.
The one-mile clay oval of DuQuoin State Fairgrounds also marks the second dirt track visit for the ARCA Racing Series, both dirt tracks located in Illinois. George competed on dirt just weeks ago at Springfield.
Spinning during his qualifying lap, George started the race in the 29th position. His 15th-place finish at the Illinois State Fairgrounds was not fitting to the competitive George. The 29-year old driver is ready to take another shot at the dirt and dust and make a make a fresh start on the dirt at DuQuoin this weekend.
The Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care gets underway Monday, September 6, at 1:00 p.m. CDT. The ARCA Racing Network will cover all the on-track activity for the ARCA Racing Series with live streaming audio and scoring at ARCAracing.com.
