The weekend’s results in both the Snowflake 100 pro late model race and the Snowball Derby super late model race weren’t what they had hoped for after qualifying second and fourth respectively, but according to Loden when he takes the time to reflect on his racing year it was nothing less than a successful one.

“It was another great year for me and this race team. We didn’t get the finishes to indicate how good of a car we had at Pensacola, but it was the best showing we’ve had as a team since our first Derby three years ago. Both cars qualified up front, we just had some bad luck with the blown motor that really threw us off track a bit and made a hard weekend with two cars even harder,” said Loden.

Beyond the two final non PASS South series events which included the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park and the above mentioned Snowball Derby; the R & L Motorsports team notched one win coming at South Boston Speedway on May 7th, three fast qualifier awards, seven top five finishes, and eight top ten finishes in thirteen PASS South series starts in 2011. Those combined stats placed Andy third in the final championship points standings for the second year in a row out of the 132 drivers who made a PASS South series start this season.

“I’m not afraid to say that the PASS South series without a doubt is the most competitive super late model series out there from coast to coast. There are plenty drivers I have seen out there that go out and win races at other tracks or other series, but then they come and race a PASS South race and they struggle to make the show,” added Andy. “That right there tells you how tough it is to race for a championship, and even though we ended up third we had a shot to win it all and that feels pretty good at the end of the day.”

“We were fortunate to win a race at South Boston and finish fifth in the biggest paying short track race in the country that had more cars attempt to make the show than any other race in the country. Those are just a couple of high points we can look back on as we head into the off season this winter and think about our 2012 plans. I just really want to take the time to thank my family, team members, sponsors, and fans for another great year of phenomenal support both on and off the race track,” continued the second year super late model driver, Loden.

The R & L Motorsports team will take the next several weeks to relax and recover with friends and family over the holidays before discussing 2012 plans. In the meantime stay tuned to www.andyloden.net for the latest news and information about Andy and the entire Monroe Roadways race team as they prepare for future events.

Stanley, NC 11/21/11- R & L Motorsports driver Andy Loden will pilot Robert Hamke’s #74 Hamke Racecars & Parts Chevy Impala in this weekend’s PASS South Mason-Dixon 200 at the Concord Speedway. The event will decide the 2011 PASS South series champion; a position Andy is just ten points out of behind fellow drivers Jay Fogleman and Ryan Blaney. The venture for Loden to pilot the famous chassis builder’s car comes on the heels of the Monroe Roadways team decision to race in both the Snowflake 100 pro late model race and the super late model Snowball Derby event at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway the following weekend in which the team will depart Sunday morning for following the 200 lap event at Concord Speedway.

QUOTES:

Taking the Helm:

-What’s it going to be like not driving the R & L Motorsports #29 Monroe Roadways super late model machine and driving for Hamke Chassis owner Robert Hamke this weekend?

“The initial reaction of climbing into another car will feel a bit weird I’m sure, but once I get use to it they all look the same from the inside looking out. What better scenario than climbing behind the wheel of your chassis (Hamke Chassis) builder’s house car that has won two races this season already, one of which beat our own #29 Monroe Roadways machine at South Boston in August.”

There’s only One First:

-How excited are you that the Mason-Dixon 200, originally scheduled elsewhere, is taking place at Concord Speedway the site of your first PASS South series super late model win?

“I was disappointed that we weren’t going back to Concord this year because of the fact that was our first super late model win. When they announced the move to Concord for the Mason Dixon mixed with our good run at Hickory to still have a chance at the championship I decided I would try my hardest to make something work to be able to race there and fortunately Robert Hamke stepped up this weekend. Even though I’ll be behind the wheel of a different car I know it will be a car good enough to win the race, and anytime you show up at the track with that feeling it gets you excited to race.”

All on the Line:

The 2011 PASS South series championship all comes down to this race, you are third in the championship standings just ten points out of first behind Jay Fogleman and Ryan Blaney; how do you approach this race and what’s it going to take to be the 2011 champion?

“I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but when it comes right down to it you have to race the race to win and not worry about what the other two guys do. My team really doesn’t get caught up in what we have to do to win the championship, they just show up and make the car better for me in practice and then I go out there and race the race to win. I am the underdog, so the pressure is on the two guys in front of me. The worst case scenario is I finish third in points exactly where I stand right now, and best case scenario I win the race and move two positions up in the championship standings and it’s a come-from-behind championship story you dream of as a kid.”

The 11th and final race for JEGS/CRA/GM will be the W&M Manufacturing / Pier-Mac 100 Plastics Presented by JEGS.com highlighted the Saturday portion of the three-day weekend under the lights in Eastern Indiana. Winchester was also the site of Finley’s hard crash back on August 20th during the Winchester 100 Presented by JEGS.com. So a return trip to the high-banks was in store for the Chad Finley Racing (CFR) Team and he was more than eager to return to the famed high-banks with hopes of earning a little redemption in the process.

After Qualifying 14th out of the 30-car field, Finley would have his work cut out for him and from the drop of the green flag, the DeWitt, Michigan driver wasted no time working his way to the front of the field. In just five laps, Finley had already cracked the top 10 and by lap 10 was up to seventh. By the 1/4 mark of the 100-lap main, Finley had worked his way into the top five and a lap later he would pass two more cars to appear on the podium in third.

Chad Finley

“I thought it would take us longer to get to the front then it did, but the car was so good on the low line that we just blasted up through there. It was pretty exciting getting up there so quickly.” Stated the Great Lakes State driver. Already sitting in third, Finley would bide his time and wait for the 3/4s mark of the race before pressing the issue. What wasn’t expected though was that the remainder of the event would go caution free.

Eventual race winner, Travis Braden and eventual runner-up finisher, Trent Snyder would build up a good lead on Finley and in the end, the DeWitt, Michigan driver would unfortunately run out of time in trying to reel in the two leaders and would stay in third although he did make up over half the distance he had trailed the two leaders at the lap 75 mark.

“The way the cautions kept flying early in the race, I thought we’d just ride for a bit. Wrong again on that one.” He laughed. “I was coming back up there, but the lapped traffic was racing each other so hard I really had to be cautious. There at the end it was better to ride those last 10 or 15 laps then to get caught up on what was going on in front me.”

“It was good to leave Winchester with another podium finish though.” He continued. “We worked on the car all weekend in race trim. Really just trying to fine tune it. We lacked a little bit of speed in qualifying, but (Crew Chief) Jimmy D. Smith and all the boys at CFR gave me another great racecar. We were really consistent this year and I’m proud of my team for that.”

Finley then added; “We just didn’t qualify as well as we needed to overall and that along with our bad luck is the only thing that stopped us from having a shot at the championship. I’m so proud of the effort from my team though, it felt good to run up front and have chances to win. We just came up a little bit short.”

Finley will finish third in the Final 2011 JEGS/CRA/GM points standings with five top five finishes including a season high of a second place showing coming twice with the most recent runner-up at Lucas Oil Raceway in Clermont, Indiana on October 2nd as well as at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan back on June 17th. His two other top five’s were third place finishes at Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio back on May 28th and his most recent podium showing at Owosso Speedway in Ovid, Michigan on September 3rd. Overall, he has racked up eight top 10 finishes in 10 starts.

The #42 Howe Racing Enterprises template ride with a Ford Fusion body and a crate engine from Phil Harper Motorsports carried sponsorship throughout the 2011 racing season from; AutoParts2020.com, as well as Rain Eater Wiper Blades, Auto Value / Bumper to Bumper Parts Stores & Certified Service Centers, the Airlift Company, Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, NorthsideTowing.net, Nalett Trucking, and M.P.H. Promotions.

The 2011 racing season is tentatively over for CFR. Although if enough funding is made available to the team, Finley and crew will make the trip down to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida on Thursday-Saturday, December 1-3rd for the Snowflake 100, which is part of the prestigious 44th annual Snowball Derby Weekend down in Western Florida.

“It would be awesome to go there. That race has been on our radar. If we could get a little bit of help I know we could go and be completive.” He offered. “We’ll have to see if we can find some help for that race. We have a lot to offer a marketing partner if we should get the chance.” He ended.

To learn more about Chad Finley Racing and to inquire about additional sponsorship opportunities within the organization for a possible trip down to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida for the Snowflake 100, which is part of the 44th annual Snowball Derby Weekend, as well as the upcoming 2012 racing season, log on to one of two websites: ww.chadfinleyracing.com and www.teamrensimotorsports.com

After years of driving on her home track in Pensacola and winning the prestigious 2009 Blizzard Series Championship, she only had one more aspiration – to become the Snowball Derby Champion.

Wheeling the No. 10 Panhandle Paving & Grading entry through 14 cautions and several lead changes, Long brought it home with expert driving & impressive pit strategy in a dramatic 5-lap green flag finish to take the checker under the lights Sunday night. Taking the Snowball Derby title makes Long only the second female ever (and youngest female) to add the prestigious title to her resume – joining Tammy Jo Kirk, 1994 winner.

Her strong qualifying run in the No. 10 Panhandle Paving & Grading entry of 16.420 seconds placed her 4th on the starting grid in her third appearance at the Snowball Derby. Plus, after a strong lead-lap finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway just two weeks prior, she was in positive spirits and ready to log the miles with trusted crew chief Kevin “Cowboy” Starland and a combination of her NASCAR and family-run Super Late Model Pensacola crew. Posting solid practice runs & a 12th place finish the day prior in the Snowflake 100 while working through tough wind conditions and cool temps, the Blizzard Series Champion was ready for the night’s challenging 300 lap race.

Competition between the top 10 competitors started on lap 1 at the 2pmCT start. In early jockeying for position, Long rallied between fourth and 1st position during the first 38 laps – trading track position with the No. 1 car of NASCAR Champion Mike Garvey until the day’s first of fourteen caution flags was thrown for a wreck in turn four. After relaying to the crew on needed adjustments, Long was able to keep a cool head and a top 10 spot in the field until the first pit of the day on lap 87 during the second caution. Rolling off p12 from the first pit after taking four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment, the team reconvened on pit and fuel strategy for the remaining 213 long laps – knowing the sun was quickly going behind the turn 4 stands.

Following an impressive front five for the next forty laps, to include race favorites Chase Elliott and Ross Kenseth, Long once again held her own to take down cars and laps one by one – gaining ground to p5 by lap 145. Knowing they had to stretch lap tires to at least lap 190 under green, Starland, Long and spotter Mike Herman, Jr. made the call to watch the race leaders and stay conservative in the pack middle. After four cautions within 30 laps and a massive wreck in turn 1 on lap 176 that resulted in a red flag for the field, the team knew it was time to come in on the next caution lap.

The veteran pit crew was able to push Long through a tricky, tight pit stall with cars directly in front and behind, to come out in first position on the restart at lap 192. Battling for 38 laps with the No. 25 of Ross Kenseth for the top position, Long narrowly escaped a scuffle between the 83 and 1 cars at lap 230 to field another caution of the day. On lap 247 Long restarted in fourth position and jockeyed to third by lap 275. Knowing the team desperately needed tires, as Long was digging hard to wheel through a field with fresh tires in the top 5 – they waited to see if another caution flag would be thrown.

Falling to p7 in the field, Long finally got her wish with six laps to go – coming in for fresh tires and a fuel cap off that helped her motor through the extra laps in the race. In a dramatic finish under Snowball Derby rules, five non-consecutive green flag laps must be driven for the checker. Long wheeled past the top six cars, taking them down one at a time & again narrowly escaping two crashes. Passing the No. 7 car of Landon Cassill to take the lead with two to go, and per her spotter, Mike Herman – “drive the two laps you’ve driven here a million times. This is your race!” Under the lights, she made history as she took the checkered flag – becoming the second female to ever win, and the youngest female in track history to take the title. She joins impressive ranks of winners, to include Steven Wallace and Kyle Busch.

Competing at some of the NCWTS schedule’s toughest speedways earlier in the season, Long has completed seven starts, with three top-20 finishes and top 20 qualifying grid starts at all races started. She hopes to race for a full Rookie season in 2011.

“What a night, what a weekend, what a year, ” said Long of her achievement. “This is what I’ve dreamed of ever since I became a racer. It is my family’s dream, and I couldn’t have done it with my dad, my mom and sisters, my aunts and uncles and grandparents – all of whom were supporting us in the paddock tonight. I’m speechless, and it’s the best Christmas present I could ever get. My nephew Gage was born today as well, so we are joking that if we weren’t a racing family before – wow – we really are now! After a long learning year in the Truck Series, it was awesome to come back to my home track and get this done. I can’t wait to see what’s next.”

“15-Year-Old Bests Pro Late Model Standouts With a Victory to Kick off His Snowball Derby Weekend”

PENSACOLA, FL (December 5, 2010) – At 15 years old, Chase Elliott proved that no obstacle would stand between him and the victory in the Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida Saturday night.

Elliott was the Snowflake standout after leading Saturday’s final practice session and laying down the second fastest lap (16.913 seconds) in qualifying time trials. It was only after qualifying that the No. 9 machine would really have to go to work.

During the post-qualifying technical inspection, officials found that the left front fender of the Elliott’s Pro Late Model did not meet requirements, nullifying Elliott’s second-fastest qualifying time.

“We actually qualified really well, so I was disappointed we didn’t get to start up front because we had a minor tech infraction,” said Elliott.

With his qualifying time thrown out Elliott lined up ninth for the first of two last chance race with some hesitation.

“There’s a lot of chances to tear your car up starting deep in the field like that, so even just go to the last chance race was something we were afraid of because we didn’t want to tear our car up.”

Despite his concerns, the No. 9 made the pass for the lead on lap nine of 25 and secured the 31st starting spot for the main event.

“Everything happens for a reason,” said Elliott. “We were meant to be thrown out and we were meant to come through and win it, I guess.”

When he took the grid for the Snowflake, Elliott knew he had the car, but it was just a matter of moving through the field in the 100 green-flag-lap race. With just two cautions and one red flag, the event was heavy with green flag action and Elliott took full advantage of it.

“I thought we’d have more caution laps than what it did, for sure,” said Elliott when asked about the green flag conditions. “We had some long green flag runs, but I thought even if there were a few more cautions we’d be alright.”

Just past the halfway point, at lap 54, Elliott moved into the top 10 and made his campaign for the lead. In 32 laps, Elliott had managed to pick off each of the nine cars in front of him and surge past the No. 18 machine of Bubba Pollard for the lead.

“I didn’t realize that Bubba (Pollard) was the leader until I asked,” commented Elliott about his pass for the lead. “It was pretty cool to find out he was the leader and I was just going to be happy with a top-10 after where we started.”

At lap 100, Elliott blazed the trail to the checkers for the field. When he made it to Victory Lane, the 15-year-old Dawsonville, Georgia native was sure to reflect on his hard fought battle.

“It means a lot,” said Elliot of his win. “This just shows how hard everybody works. We struggled, but we worked on it in practice and got it pretty close. We had a good qualifying effort, but had to start at the rear of the consi race and won that, then started at the back of the race and won that.”

Elliott’s racing weekend is not complete with his Snowflake 100 win, however. Elliott will start 10th for Sunday’s 43rd Annual Snowball Derby Super Late Model event at Five Flags Speedway. Cale Gale set fast time for the event on Friday evening. Thirty-seven cars will take the green flag on Sunday for the 43rd edition of the prestigious short track event.

Jimmy Weller (Photo Credit: 51 Sports)

PENSACOLA, FL (November 17, 2010) – There is nobody better to learn a craft from than the masters. Just playing on the same field, or racing on the same track, as the best athletes of a sport can only help to teach a young rising star the right way to get to the top of their game.

There is no place better in short track racing to run with the masters than at the Snowball Derby, held every December at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway. As the most prestigious Super Late Model race in the country, the Derby attracts the top drivers of the sport from places as diverse as Texas, Minnesota, North Carolina, Georgia, Iowa and just about everywhere in between.

So it’s no surprise that young Ohio native Jimmy Weller, who is on the fast track to success in the Super Late Model world after scoring a surprising PASS South victory at South Boston Speedway (VA) earlier this season, has declared his intent to race in the 43rd running of the Snowball Derby, scheduled for December 1st-5th at Five Flags.

“The only way to get better is to go and race with the best and that is what we are looking to do,” said Weller. “To go down and beat them would be awesome. You always look for the best and put the highest expectations on yourself. You never really do, but we want to go down there and run the best that we can.”

Weller is becoming a quick student of racing on asphalt after graduating from Dirt Modifieds and Sprint Cars a few years ago. Midway through the 2009 racing season, Weller gave up racing at tracks like Lake Erie Motor Speedway (PA), Motordrome Speedway (PA) and Holland Speedway (NY) and packed his bags for North Carolina. Since then, that is where he has been living and working towards his dream of moving up the racing ladder. Since that move, Weller has heard plenty of stories about Snowball Derby week at Five Flags and even got to experience the week last year as he entered the Saturday night Snowflake 100 during Derby week and finished a very respectable ninth in his debut at the track.

“You hear so much about it [Derby Week],” said Weller. “We ran the Snowflake last year. I enjoy the place and I’m looking forward to going back with a big motor.

“Back home, we hit a few tracks and that was it. Down here, we’re running with everyone and we’re running different tracks. We’re running with the best. We’re learning, we’ve had some success and it’s been fun. We’re having a good time. We would run about 12 different tracks up there, but these tracks here are so much different than the tracks up north. You learn a little more down here I think.”

The 43rd Annual Snowball Derby weekend kicks off on Wednesday, December 1st, with the Cat Country / WEAR TV3 Free Green Flag Party, where fans can meet their favorite drivers on the Five Flags asphalt. On-track action kicks off on Thursday, December 2nd, with practice for the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 cars, as well as features for the Five Flags Bomber and Sportsman divisions. Friday is qualifying day for the Snowball Derby cars, while the Pro Late Models will get more practice and the Super Stocks and Modified feature events.

The Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 will go green on Saturday, December 4th, along with last-chance qualifying races for the Snowball Derby. Then on Sunday, the green flag will wave for the 43rd Annual Snowball Derby.

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, FL (December 02, 2009) – Brandon Odom has not taken a green flag in a race car since The Alabama 200 on October 18 at South Alabama Speedway. Fortunately for himself and his fans, he will end that streak this weekend at Five Flags (FL) Speedway. The 17 year-old Florida driver will attempt to qualify for The Annual Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 – A major support event for The 42nd Annual Snowball Derby.

Over 70 cars are expected to battle for 36 time trial-earned starting spots, and Odom is a favorite to grab one of those spots. Although he missed one race, he was a regular competitor in the speedway’s Tom Thumb Pro Late Model Series this year. Adding to the advantage of seat time at the fast half-mile speed plant, Odom also racked up two wins for the season at Five Flags.

Brandon has yet a third weapon in his arsenal: A car that he absolutely loves to drive. He will be driving for Royce Johnston Motorsports this weekend – as he has many times before. The team has entered the same car that Brandon drove to an 18th-place finish in The Alabama 200. While an 18th-place finish is nothing for one of South Alabama Speedway’s most competitive drivers to brag about, the finish was not indicative of his performance; rather, it was brought on by mechanical failure. Despite his disappointing finish, Odom was ecstatic when he climbed from his car, and couldn’t wait to drive it again.

“It’s fast,” said Odom. “It’s really fast and handles too. This car is going to be awesome.”

That’s exactly what it will take to get into The Snowflake 100 field – a really fast car that handles perfectly. Drivers from all over the country will be looking to steal a starting spot from Brandon, but he says he’s ready for the challenge.

“I do think that we have a good enough car to make the field,” commented Odom. “I’m not sure if we’ll be the fastest thing out there and get the pole. I’d much rather have a good race car than a qualifying car and I think we have that.”

Although it may sound cliche, Odom knows that surviving attrition and being around at the end of the race is the first step to stepping into victory lane.

“The key to surviving the distance is to be aware and not put yourself in a position where it could end your night [in a crash],” he warned. “You know who you can race with and who you can’t. My plans are to just stay out of trouble and get to the front and be there at the end. We actually went to test at Five Flags during open practice a few weeks ago. The car was really good. I was very happy with it. I think we have a good chance of winning [The Snowflake 100]”

Snowball Derby weekend and all of it’s events are widely considered the crown jewel of stock car racing, and it has it’s own special meaning to Odom as well.

“Winning The Snowflake 100 at age 17 would be awesome,” exclaimed Odom. “There are a lot drivers who have been trying to win this race for years and to just win it on my second try would be great.”

The Brandon Odom Racing / Royce Johnston Motorsports Team is not only pursuing a win for their fans; they are also hoping to take a brand new sponsor to victory lane. GetMoreVacations.com has signed on to sponsor their Snowflake 100 effort.

“We are so excited they came on board with our team and we look forward to working with them in the future,” stated Odom.

The race teams have already arrived at Five Flags Speedway, and will spend all day Thursday and Friday practicing and testing. Qualifying for The Allen Turner Hyundai Snowflake 100 gets underway Saturday, December 05 at 2:00PM CT, and the race goes green that night at 7:00PM CT.

Cale Gale would like to find a way to Victory Lane at Five Flags Speedway to bring a happy ending to a lost racing season.

The Mobile driver is one of the NASCAR names racing this weekend at the Pensacola track. He’s entered in Saturday’s Allen Turner Snowflake 100 for pro late models and Sunday’s 42nd Snowball Derby, a 300-lap super late model race that pays $20,000 to the winner.

Among those entered in one or both races are Sprint Cup star and 2009 Nationwide Series champion Kyle Busch, Cup driver David Stremme, Nationwide drivers Steven Wallace and John Wes Townley, and James Buescher, Brian Ickler, Brian Scott, Ryan Sieg and Shane Sieg from NASCAR’s truck series.

Past winners of the Snowball Derby include such NASCAR notables as Wallace, Donnie Allison, Rich Bickle, Rick Crawford, Pete Hamilton, Ted Musgrave and Darrell Waltrip.

“It’s one of the most prestigious short-track races in the country,” Gale said. “It’s a great race to come run if you’re a short-track guy. Everybody races all year all over the country, then everybody brings their best stuff down here and sees what they’ve got.”

“This will be my first time running the Derby,” said Gresham. “We ran really well in the Snowflake 100 at Pensacola last year and turned in a strong seventh-place finish. Honestly, about the only thing that’s different between the two races is the increased horsepower in the Super Late Model car and the longer distance of the Derby. I know my Gresham Motorsports team has gone all out to give me the best opportunity to do well this weekend. Now it’s just up to me to do my best.”

The last time Gresham visited the Five Flags half-mile oval on September 25, the racing fates weren’t on his side as a Lap 1 crash eliminated him from the Blizzard 100.

“That was my first-ever attempt at a Super Late Model race and needless to say, it didn’t turn out too good for us,” said Gresham. “We took the green and everything felt good coming up off Turn 2. I ran up on the guy in front of me through Turns 3-4 before someone five or six cars in front of me got loose. The guy in front of me also got way loose and in an effort to miss him, I turned left down the banking. The car just got out from under me and I slid into the inside retaining wall pretty hard. The impact tore up the left front suspension pretty bad and we were done for the night.”

Max Gresham

While his initial Pensacola Super Late Model effort got short-circuited, the rest of Gresham’s 2009 season has been electric. The 16-year-old high school Junior student at Woodward Academy in College Park, GA won a pair of American Speed Association Southeast Asphalt Tour events early in the year and then followed it up with four solid showings in the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR Camping World Series East division. Gresham ran third at Iowa Speedway and notched an outside pole and eighth-place run at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to highlight the Gibbs’ association.

Last time out, the Griffin, GA teenager raced his way from a lap down to lead late and eventually finish second in the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park. The November 15 effort was later erased when a post-race technical violation dropped him to 38th in the final running order.

“We had a great effort there,” said Gresham. “We were good at the end of that race and I know that we will be good at the end of the race Sunday. With a little luck, we’re going to be up there racing for it at the end of the day. To win the Snowball Derby would really be something for me and my Gresham Motorsports team. If you win that race, you are the Top Dog for a whole year.”

The 42nd-Annual Snowball Derby Park will take the green flag at 10 a.m. Central Time on Thursday, December 4 with alternating rounds of Super and Late Model Stock Car practice. Friday’s action will be highlighted by qualifying for the Snowball Derby at 6 p.m. to be followed by feature event action in the Modified and Super Stock divisions. Saturday’s bill of events includes a last-chance race for the Snowball Derby, qualifying for the Snowflake 100, two last-chance races for the Snowflake 100, and the Snowflake 100 itself beginning at 7 p.m.

Sunday’s 42nd-Annual Snowball Derby will roll off at 2 p.m. Central Time Sunday. The event can be heard live on the Internet on www.Speed51.com.

“After Much Preparation, 14-Year-Old Racer Heads to Five Flags Speedway to See What the Snowflake 100 Holds for Him”

HIGH POINT, NC (December 1, 2009) – Ryan Blaney has been keeping his name in the news this season by grabbing the 2009 PASS South Super Late Model Rookie of the Year honors on the basis of 12 top-10 finishes in 13 races. His most recent outing produced an impressive sixth-place finish in the CRA Super Series North-South Shootout at Concord Speedway (NC). Now the young North Carolina racer is looking to make more headlines in the Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model race in December at Five Flags Speedway (FL), as part of the Snowball Derby weekend.

Although Blaney was crowned Rookie of the Year in the PASS South Series, he is not a rookie to Five Flags Speedway or the Snowflake 100. Blaney competed in the 2008 version of the event, where he finished 17th, and also took part in the final round of the 2009 Five Flags Speedway Pro Late Model season, bringing home a ninth-place finish.

“I wasn’t really that experienced when we went down there before,” said Blaney. “We really didn’t know that much about the cars, but I think that since I have a lot more experience now and we, as a team, have gotten a lot better, I think we can go down there and really be a contender for the victory. We have been down to Five Flags Speedway this year to race about a month ago, and the knowledge we gained on the track then will help us for the Snowflake 100.”

Having already been acquainted with the functioning style of the Snowflake last year, Blaney knows that first and foremost is the pressure to simply qualify for the race before turning the focus to the race.

“It definitely puts a little pressure on us,” said Blaney. “I’m not the strongest qualifier. I’ve had a couple of poles here and there, but we flex our muscles more during the race. We qualified pretty well there last time and I think we’ll be alright. If I’m just comfortable with it, I think we’ll be pretty good. We’ll work hard in practice and I’m confident we’ll make the show.”

Blaney’s confidence level goes beyond his ability as a driver as he puts a lot of faith in his team. After a full year of Late Model racing under his belt, Blaney is ready to etch his name in the record books as a winner in the Snowflake 100.

“If we could win the Snowflake 100, it would mean a lot. So many good guys are going down there like Kyle Busch, Bubba Pollard and Augie Grill. It would be awesome, especially to come to Five Flags and beat them at their own track where they’ve practiced and raced this whole year. It would mean a lot to me and it would be a great win for the team.”

Ryan Blaney will hit the track for the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, on December 5th.

Held in conjunction with the 42nd annual Snowball Derby, the Snowflake 100 is among the most prestigious pro-late model events of the entire season.

The partnership for the Snowflake 100 is a continuation of a multi-race sponsorship program RJM and Kleenoil entered into late summer 2009. In their first outing, Johns drove his #43 Kleenoil/PowerUp/BioMatrix Ford Fusion to a 9th place finish in the ASA late model series event at Nashville Superspeedway. The 2010 RJM/Kleenoil schedule of events will be announced shortly.

“I’m really excited about going back to Pensacola and running the Snowflake again,” said Johns. “We’ve had some really good cars there in the past, but it always seems like we’ve been in the wrong place at the wrong time and never gotten the finish we deserved. This is Kleenoil’s first trip to Pensacola and the Snowflake. I’m hoping they’re my good luck charm and we’ll go to victory lane together.”

“Ever since we got involved with Richard and the team they’ve been telling us about Pensacola and the Snowflake,” said Greg Smith of Kleenoil Filtration U.S.A. “We had a great first outing in Nashville, and we’re looking for another strong run in Pensacola. I’m excited about seeing first hand everything Richard and the team have been telling us about Pensacola and the Snowball/Snowflake weekend. I’m also looking forward to talking to some of the fellow racers about the Kleenoil system and how it can save them money in their everyday businesses.”

Kleenoil USA, Inc. manufactures and distributes the leading onboard oil recycling system. The Kleenoil bypass recycling system is available for a wide spectrum of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic and fuel systems under the Kleenoil brand name. Power Up Lubricants is a unique boundary lubricant consisting of additives for engine oil (NNL 690), gear oil (NNL 690G), hydraulic and transmission fluids (Hydra-Maxx), diesel fuel (Gen 49D), gasoline (LHP 454) and grease (Thixogrease). Bio-Matrix, is a natural oil, fuel and chemical absorbent.

Panama City, FL 11/27/09- The 2009 season has been a season of new experiences for Ryan Crane as he made the transition to the ARCA series on a limited basis piloting cars for fellow Panama City, Florida resident James Finch. Since having only raced a handful of late model races this season and a new Hamke racecar added to his fleet, Crane will spend the upcoming days testing extensively around the half mile track. With the help of long time Derby sponsor Comfort Inn on Pensacola Beach once again this year along with new sponsor Can Am Sypder-ATV signed on board as a last minute deal, the Ryan Crane Racing team is almost a shoe-in to pick up right where they left off.

                            SLM 42nd Annual Snowball Derby 300-December 6, 2009

Venue: Five Flags Speedway–Pensacola , Florida

Track Size: ½ mile (.500)

Series: N/A

Standings: N/A

QUOTES

-Once again this year longtime Snowball Derby weekend sponsor Comfort Inn on Pensacola Beach has come on board plus you just signed on Can Am Sypder-ATV as a last minute deal, what does it mean for companies like these to be involved with a race team such as yours?

“First off I want to thank Comfort Inn for their continued support even in a tough economical year and with Can Am coming on board here in the last day or two I’ve really been lucky. It really shows how great both companies are and their involvement this year means more than ever. Whenever local companies get involved it not only goes a long way for my team, but when it’s a local company involved you can easily help them achieve the return on investment. Just like this year we always try to refer other teams and fans to them (Comfort Inn-Pensacola Beach) and then Tuesday night before the Derby I am speaking at the local Rotary club meeting in downtown Pensacola . In addition to that we’ll have a Can Am Spyder on display the entire Derby weekend. Things like these are what make sponsorship work not just putting a name on the car.”

-Explain what the Snowball Derby means to you and your family each year and take us through your 2009 season that has lead up to the Derby weekend?

“The snowball derby is the last race of the season for my family owned team. We try to make the most of it since it is our last one of the year and the Five Flags venue is the closest track to our home in Panama City . I’ve had a fair amount of success at Five Flags Speedway and hope to continue with a win at the Snowball Derby. The 2009 season was a short season for me since I have ran a select amount of races and had a short tenure in the ARCA RE/MAX series. Not racing as many venues in 2009 forces me to put great effort into the Snowball Derby to make up ground on what I missed during the regular season.”

-What is your fondest Derby weekend memory thus far since you’ve competed?

“Without question, winning the 2007 Allen Turner Snowflake 100 would be the fondest memory of the Snowball Derby weekend of my racing career so far. I have won lots of races but none come as close to coming from the last chance race to win the trophy of the 100 lap main event. Hopefully this year will be my year to notch the Snowball Derby off my list of races to win.

-You won the Snowflake 100 pro late model race in 2007 and over the last few years we typically see you with both the pro and super late models come Derby weekend, will that be the same case this year and what does it take to make both cars successful on an already stressful weekend of racing?

“This year we’ll again be fielding entries for both the Snowball and Snowflake races. I have both car configurations and it makes perfect sense to enter both events with full intentions on taking home the trophies for both races. Both cars have their own identities and drive completely different. The most effective way to prepare the cars is to focus on each one entirely on different days to ensure both cars are at their greatest potential of winning their respective races.”

“Georgia Racer Prepares to run both Snowflake 100 and Snowball Derby in December”

CONCORD, NC (November 23, 2009) – Tyler Millwood, who competed in the final round of 2009 Blizzard Series competition only two months ago, is gearing up to hit the track for not only next weekend’s Snowflake 100 at Five Flags Speedway but also the prestigious Snowball Derby at the Pensacola, Florida, track as well.

In preparation for running two of the biggest races of the Late Model season, Millwood and his team are checking over their cars one last time before heading south to the Florida Panhandle.

“We are mainly just going over the cars over and over again,” said Millwood. “We’re just checking them out and making sure everything is right and tight. We’re making sure every part is just as it should be so we don’t have any unexpected problems. We’ve got to do a little bit of body work after the World Crown but other than that we’re just checking everything out and making sure everything is good, nutting and bolting the cars.”

Millwood pulled double duty in both the Snowflake 100 and the Snowball Derby last year, so he knows what kind of stress is added by having to stay focused on two cars and two different races.

“It’s really not really too much extra mental stress,” explained Millwood. “But it is a lot more physical stress than anything because you’ve got to get in one car and get out of the other and continue switching back and forth all weekend. You’ve got two cars to get through tech, and qualify and then race. It’s just a lot of work to stay on top of. I wouldn’t say I’m worried about it, but there is definitely a lot physical work to be done once we get there.”

By running both events, Millwood and his team are relaying the message that they’re serious and are competing to win on one of the legendary race weekend in all of short track racing.

“It would mean a lot to me to win the Snowflake,” commented Millwood. “But to win the Snowball would be unimaginable because you’ve got all of the nation’s best racers there competing. Just to make the race is wonderful but to win it would be a dream come true.”

With his prior knowledge and experience, Millwood has formulated a strategy to bring home strong finishes in each race.

“We’re just going to go down there in a few weeks and do our best to stay on top of stuff and hope we’ve done everything right in preparing. And we’ll practice hard and work to make sure we get in both races and try to keep our noses clean and bring back two good finishes.”

Long, who is a Pensacola native, knows her way around the track as she has won both the Blizzard Super Late Model Championship as well as the Pro Late Model Championship in the past two years.

2008 was the first year Long competed in both events and she now knows what it takes to find success in each.

“Last year was my first year running the Super [Late Model] race,” explained Long. “So running both of them last year for the first time was a lot of stress on me. Fortunately, I knew that I was already in the Snowflake last year so the main stress was on getting into the Derby. I think this year it’s going to be the same because I’m already in the Derby. Of course, I want to be on the pole and I want to be up there to get out of all the trouble that seems to happen further back. So getting a good spot in the Derby is just going to be my main priority, to get out front in qualifying and stay out front. But we’ve also got to stay focused and definitely work hard to make it in the Snowflake because we don’t have a guaranteed spot in that one this year.”

This year, Long knows that she’s going to have to keep her mind set on both races as she will have the opportunity that some Derby drivers won’t have to gauge track conditions for Sunday by racing on Saturday night.

“The Super [Late Model] and the Pro [Late Model] are a little bit different,” explained Long. “But the racing is the same and I’ll get more experience on what the track’s going to be like on Sunday by paying attention on Saturday night and planning ahead for the Derby, in the Snowflake.”

There is no doubt that if teenage phenom Long were to find her way to victory lane on Snowball Derby weekend her extensive local fan base would make it a night to remember in the young girl’s life.

“It would really be awesome,” said Long. “It would be a big dream come true definitely for me. Being from down here and growing up watching these races and now seeing the support that people give me in the stands would be amazing. Plus, there are guys out there that have been running the Derby for ten to fifteen years and for it to be my second year and win it, that would be really big.”

Stay tuned to JohannaLong.com for updates on Johanna’s progress through the big weekend, December 3rd – 6th.

“Racer Encourages Other Drivers, Teams and Fans to Visit One of America’s Favorite Restaurants While in Town”

CONCORD, NC (November 20, 2009) – A successful and winning weekend for any racecar driver normally means having a strong engine, a good car and the right set up underneath it. But equally important is a strong, knowledgeable and happy crew. And what is one thing that keeps a crew happy? Keeping them fed with good food all weekend long so they can stay focused.

The Stroupe Brothers Racing crew knows that food gets no better than what is found at Chili’s Grill and Bar Restaurant.

That is why Washington-driver Zach Niessner and the Stroupe Brothers Racing team have teamed with Chili’s Grill and Bar Restaurants of Pensacola as a primary sponsor for this year’s running of the Snowflake 100 on December 2-5 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL, part of the Snowball Derby weekend.

“I’m excited to be associated with Chili’s for the Snowball weekend,” said Niessner, who will drive the #2 Chili’s Grill and Bar/2 Dudes Designs Chevrolet in his third Snowflake 100. “Having their help over the weekend will make things a lot better for me and for the entire team. When you are hard at work at the track for hours and hours, the last thing you are thinking about is eating. But when it comes time to leave the track, the first thing you think about it going somewhere together and getting a good meal. And at Chili’s, there are no bad meals. So to have them come on board with us for the weekend will be huge. Hopefully, we can pay them back with spreading the word about the restaurant and getting them into victory lane on Saturday night.”

Snowball Derby fans and teams can find four local Chili’s restaurants to dine at while in town for the Snowball Derby weekend, including 4781 Bayou Blvd in Pensacola, 4480 Mobile Hwy in Pensacola, 529 W. Nine Mile Road in Pensacola or 4701 Highway 90 in Pace.

Chili’s is one of the most recognized restaurants in the entire county, with over 1,400 casual dining establishments, mostly located in the United States and Canada. Chili’s has restaurants in all 50 states and 24 international locations.

Chili’s is best known for their American food menu that has a Tex-Mex influence. The restaurant has everything from their famous “Big Mouth Burgers” to fajitas and quesadillas, baby back ribs and steaks to seafood and Buffalo wings. The menu also contains a large number of appetizers, including the ever-popular homemade salsa, as well as several mouth-watering desserts. Chili’s also offers a full bar that serves a variety of alcoholic drinks.

“There is something for everyone at Chili’s, but my favorites are definitely the burgers, the steaks or the quesadillas,” added Niessner. “But really, there isn’t anything on the menu that isn’t good. That is why we are going to encourage everyone we know to go to Chili’s and eat either before or after the races. When you come into a town that you don’t really know for a weekend like we do so often, you always try and figure out where to go eat. But almost everyone has been to a Chili’s somewhere before, so when you see a Chili’s Restaurant, you know what you are going to get. You don’t have to worry about the quality of the food, because you know you are going to go there and get a good meal and get it at a great price.

“On top of everything else, people in the racing community have always liked to support the sponsors that support local racing. So we are going to do our best to hand out some coupons and get people into the restaurant. They are supporting short track racing, so race fans need to support them. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.”

Like many drivers, Niessner’s career started in Go-Karts. Zach competed in the NASCAR ranks around the Pacific Northwest and became the youngest driver to qualify for a NASCAR Elite Northwest Series race. Niessner also ran the ASA National Tour, moved to Indianapolis, signed with SS Racing and ran a part-time schedule as a teammate to three-time ASA National Champion Butch Miller. In 2004, Niessner started his own Zach Niessner Racing. An ASA pole at USA International Speedway and pole and third-place finish in the NASCAR Southwest Series event at Irwindale led up to a race win at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, where Zach came in and beat the regulars of the NASCAR Southeast Series, picking up the legendary guitar that goes with winning at the famed high-banked half-mile.

Niessner has had an up and down history at the Snowflake 100. In 2005, Niessner qualified third for the event while racing for SS Racing and ran in the top-five all night long before falling victim to a mid-race accident. In 2008, Niessner ran the event for 5K Motorsports and found himself as high as third late in the race before having to pit under green for tires. He finished 14th.

Niessner will also have sponsorship from Victory Circle Communications, 2 Dudes Designs, Short Track Enterprises and The Decal Source for his Snowflake run.

“I’ve got a lot of great sponsors that are going to help us out. Victory Circle Communications and their association with Racing Radios is an easy fit with me, because I’ve always run Racing Radios in the past. They do such great work. And The Decal Source has made this #2 look really good. I’m pretty sure the car even won the best appearing car award its first time out at the PASS South event in Hickory.

“This year, I feel like we will have the best shot to win. I’m with the best team I’ve been with yet. And I’ve got some of my closest friends who have been working with me for years in racing here to help me. I feel like I have more freedom to do what I want to do and that will mean things should go much better. The competition is always tough, but we’ll do alright.”

When not behind the wheel, Niessner co-owns and runs Short Track Enterprises, in Ellensburg, Washington. STE is a one-stop shop for all a driver’s and team’s racing needs in the Pacific Northwest. Headed by racers Travis Bennett and Niessner, STE performs a variety of services for racers who are in need of a little “help,” from car setup to full vehicle maintenance and preparation. STE can build a new car from the ground up, help get the correct setup for a specific track, repair a wrecked car and fabricate any parts that will help give an added advantage. With knowledge that spans decades and plenty of wins and championships between the owners, STE is becoming the source for running up front and winning in the Northwest and beyond. STE can be found on the web at www.shorttrackenterprises.com.
