Last weekend, South Boston Speedway officials placed a $500 bounty on Philip Morris if anyone could snap the dominance the multi-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion has had over his stiff competition thus far this season.
Despite the $500 bounty, Morris rolled to a seventh consecutive triumph on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval and now has a week off before returning to action for the running of the Italian Delight Family Restaurant Twin Late Model 75 race program on Saturday, May 28.
When Morris and the other NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division champions hit the asphalt for racing action on May 28, the bounty on Morris will now be up to $1,000.
Any driver who can score a victory over Morris on May 28 can collect the bounty, plus the normal first-place prize money. Morris must still be competing at the end of the race for a driver to claim the bounty and Morris himself can also claim the bounty if he elects to start from the rear of the field and attempt to work his way to the front to score a seventh consecutive win.
The twin 75-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division will be the featured attractions of the Italian Delight Family Restaurant Twin Late Model 75 race program, which will feature five action-packed events. The first race of the evening will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
Other races slated on May 28 include events for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Legendary Flathead Series.
On the strength of his seventh consecutive victory last weekend, Morris now owns a 79-point advantage over second-place Justin Johnson, the two-time defending NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division champion at America’s Hometown Track.
Josh Oakley is third in the standings and trails Johnson by only four points. Frank Deiny, Jr. is fourth and is 12 points behind Oakley.
A victory by Brian Pembleton, coupled with a sixth-place finish by defending champion Justin Snow, last week in the Limited Sportsman Division has vaulted Pembelton into the lead in the standings. Pembelton’s lead, however, is only three points over Snow and six points over third-place Danny Willis Jr., who finished second last weekend.
Joe Allred rolled to a pair of Budweiser Pure Stock Division victories last weekend and now owns a 12-point lead over Trey Crews in the title chase. Randy Hupp is third and is only seven points behind Crews.
Pit registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on May 28. Practice for all divisions will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children under the age of six will be admitted free with a paid adult.
