This was Townley’s career first start at HMS and the solid performance was the 19-year-old rookie’s third consecutive top-25 finish.

Townley was the 48th of 52 drivers to make a qualifying attempt Saturday morning. The Zaxby’s Ford lapped the 1.5-mile south Florida track in 32.798 seconds (164.644 mph), posting the 25th best time of the session and locking the Raybestos Rookie into the field.

Rolling off the starting grid on the inside of row 13, Townley raced competitively inside the top-25 for the opening 80 laps. When the fourth caution flag was waved for debris on lap 81, Townley brought his No. 09 machine down pit road for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco fuel and a chassis adjustment. Townley would exit the pits in the 24th position but would be summoned back down pit road one lap later for a missing lug nut on the left rear tire. When racing resumed on lap 84 Townley was scored in the 33rd position.

Catching up was the name of the game over the next 75 laps. Running 29th, a long green-flag run would came into play for the Zaxby’s Racing crew as they held off bringing the No. 09 machine down pit road with the leaders on lap 145 for green-flag pit stops. When the field cycled through, Townley was sitting in the 25th position, one of the only cars on the track that had not come down pit road for fuel.

However, with laps winding down and fuel running low Townley was about to bring his yellow and blue machine down pit road for the evening’s final stop when the sixth caution flag was displayed for an incident in turn-4. This welcoming opportunity for relief allowed the Zaxby’s team to gain back one of their two laps they had lost early on in the event.

John Wes Townley

Following a phenomenal stop for four tires and fuel the No. 09 pit crew would gain Townley one position on the race track. When racing resumed on lap 162 the Zaxby’s Ford would be scored in the 24th position only one lap down.

Over the next 38 circuits Townley would battle other cars on his lap for a coveted top-25 position. It wasn’t until the closing five laps that Townley leaped up one more spot to bring home a 24th-place finish in the 35th and final race of the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. Kyle Busch would go on to win the Ford 300 and the championship.

This was the final race for John Wes Townley behind the wheel of the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford Fusion for RAB Racing. In his first full-time season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Townley amassed six top-20 and 12 top-25 finishes and on the strength of the 19-year-old rookie’s efforts he finished 23rd in the overall driver point standings and seventh in the Raybestos Rookie of the year battle. Townley will move to Richard Childress Racing for the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.

The performance was the 19-year-old rookie’s best start and finish at the 1-mile tri-oval and his 11th top-25 finish in 25 starts of 2009. Additionally, the Watkinsville, GA native closed the gap on a top-30 position in the 2009 championship owner point standings. The No. 09 entry remains 32nd in point’s just 419 markers outside the top-30.

In Saturday morning’s time trials Townley toured the “Valley of the Sun” in 27.653 seconds (130.185 mph) locking the No.09 machine into the field with a 27th-place starting position. The effort transcended his best starting position at PIR in three attempts by five spots.

When the green flag fell over the 43-car field signaling the start of the 200-mile event, Townley “set sail” into the top-20, but was sitting in the 25th-position when the afternoon’s first caution flag was waved on lap nine. A chassis adjustment, four Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel were in order for the rookie as he made his way down pit road. When racing resumed on lap 12, the No. 09 machine was scored 31st on the leader board.

Townley maintained his position in the top-30 throughout a long green-flag run. Two caution flags for debris allowed the Zaxby’s Racing team to bring the yellow and blue machine down pit road for adjustments. At the day’s half-way point Townley was scored in the 25th position two laps down.

The rookie teetered between the 25th and 26th positions over the next 50 circuits. The long green-flag run forced the No. 09 machine to go another lap down to race leader, Carl Edwards. However, when the fifth caution flag slowed down the field on lap 153, Townley took the opportunity to stay out and take the wave around allowing the Zaxby’s Ford to gain back one of three laps. When racing resumed on lap 156 the Zaxby’s Ford was sitting in the 23rd-position.

Racing just two other cars on his lap, Townley would battle over the closing 44 laps to bring home a 23rd-place finish and Carl Edwards would go on to win the Able Body Labor 200.

Up next is the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Ford 300 is the 35th and final race on the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule and John Wes Townley hopes to make his career first start on the 1.5-mile oval. All the action from Homestead begins at 4:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

The solid effort was Townley’s best finish at the 1.5-mile speedway and his sixth top-20 in 24 starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Additionally, the Watkinsville, GA native gained one position in the 2009 driver point standings and also gained ground on a coveted top-30 spot in the championship owner point standings. The No. 09 entry currently sits 32nd in points just 422 markers outside the top-30.

In Friday evening’s qualifying session, Townley toured “The Great American Speedway” in 29.636 seconds (182.211 mph), turning the 27th best time of the session. The effort bested the Watkinsville, GA native’s top starting position at TMS by two positions.

Although, the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford was scheduled to line-up on the inside of the 14th row for the start of the 300-mile event, the yellow and blue Zaxby’s machine was sent to the rear of the 43-car field and even held in the garage for the opening laps as a result of a NASCAR penalty. When the No. 09 machine finally got out onto the quad-oval, Townley was scored four laps down in the 43rd position.

John Wes Townley

A long initial green flag run and patient approach had Townley scored in the 34th position by lap 33. As the leaders began making the long trip down pit road at lap 54 for scheduled stops, Townley was able to stay out on the racing surface. A welcome opportunity for relief came at lap 62, when the afternoon’s first yellow flag was thrown for debris. Brad Parrott used this opportunity to bring the Zaxby’s machine down pit road for service. Four fresh Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel would set Townley up for the next stint. When racing resumed on lap 64 Townley was scored 29th, only two laps down.

Townley would eventually climb towards the top of the leader board over the next 40 laps but another long green flag run would leave the Zaxby’s Ford three laps down running in the 27th position at the halfway point due to the blistering pace set by leader, Kyle Busch.

In the closing 100 laps, Brad Parrott worked on making chassis adjustments to tighten up the Zaxby’s machine for Townley. The 19-year-old rookie would go on to finish his second race at Texas Motor Speedway in the 18th-postion, three laps down to race winner Kyle Busch.

With only two races left in the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season, John Wes Townley and the Zaxby’s Racing team head to Phoenix International Raceway for the Able Body Labor 200 on Saturday, November 14th. Townley has two starts at the 1-mile tri-oval with his best start of 32nd and best finish of 36th coming in the spring 2009 Bashas’ Supermarkets 200.

Raybestos Rookie John Wes Townley made his debut at the .750-mile oval but due to an expired engine on lap seven of the 254-lap contest the No. 09 Zaxby’s Racing team was left with a 40th place finish in the 32nd event on the 2009 schedule.

The Watkinsville, GA native’s weekend started out on a high note when he posted laps of 31st and 22nd, respectively, on the speed charts in two practice sessions on Friday. In time trials on Saturday the 19-year-old rookie toured the famed short track in 23.210 seconds (116.329 mph) which was good enough to lock the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford into the show with a 20th place starting position for Saturday afternoon’s main event.

John Wes Townley

When the green flag dropped Saturday afternoon, Townley made a charge to the front of the 43-car field and was up to the 17th position on lap seven when the yellow and blue machine began dropping fluid on the race track at the start-finish line. By the exit of turn one, the No. 09 machine was in the middle of a six car pile-up bringing out the afternoon’s first caution and ending the rookie’s debut at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Townley would be scored 40th, 247 laps down to race winner, Brad Keselowski. The unfortunate finish left Townley 24th in the 2009 driver point standings and 32nd in the owner point standings with 2,142 points; 428 markers out of 31st and 486 points outside the top-30.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will take a week off before heading to Texas Motor Speedway for the O’Reilly Challenge on November 7th. Townley has one prior start at the 1.5-mile quad-oval starting 29th and finishing 36th in the April 2009 O’Reilly 300.

Townley was a victim of circumstance but the incident relegated the 19-year-old rookie to a 28th place finish in the 300-mile event.

Despite being multiple laps down to the leader, Townley was able to leave NASCAR’s “home track” still holding down the 32nd spot in the overall owner point standings. With just four races left on the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule, Townley has 2,099 points; 389 markers behind 31st and 435 points outside the top-30.

Following an 18th place mark on the scoreboard during final practice Thursday evening, Townley toured the 1.5-mile in 29.868 seconds (180.796 mph) during time trials on Friday afternoon. The lap was fast enough to lock the Watkinsville, GA native into the field with a 27th place starting position for the 200-lap event.

The 43 car field took the green flag under threatening skies and cold temperatures for the 31st time in 2009. John Wes Townley fell back early on due to very tight conditions on his No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford but a welcoming sign for relief came on lap 14 when the evening’s first caution flag was displayed on lap 14 for a three car incident on the front stretch. Crew Chief Brad Parrott called the rookie down pit road for four tires, fuel and a major chassis adjustment. When racing resumed on lap 21 Townley was scored in the 32nd position.

A long green flag run resulted in Townley losing one lap to race leader Kyle Busch by lap 40, however smart driving by Townley kept him out of trouble on lap 64 when David Gilliland in the No. 1 machine went four wide in turn 1 ultimately causing a three car incident bringing out the evenings second caution. Townley would bring his No. 09 machine back down pit road for four tires and fuel along with an air pressure and chassis adjustment to aid in the handling of his machine. Townley would be scored 30th on lap 67 when racing resumed.

John Wes Townley

However, just three laps later Townley would become a victim of circumstance when the “big one” transpired in turn 2. The multi-car incident involved six cars including the No. 09 machine.

Although the damage was minimal, Brad Parrott would bring the yellow and blue machine down pit road four times over the next 25 laps to repair the right front fender. By lap 95 Townley was scored 29th, 21 laps down to the leader.

Townley would hang tough over the closing 100 laps but due to being multiple laps down could only gain one more position to race winner Kyle Busch. Townley would take the checkered flag in the 28th, 21 laps down.

Next up for John Wes Townley and the No. 09 Zaxby’s Racing team is Memphis Motorsports Park where the rookie plans to make his career first start at the .750-mile oval in the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 on Saturday, October 24th.

The 2-mile oval produces top speeds and high drama which was no different this Saturday for the Zaxby’s team as they rallied from diversity to finish 17th in the Copart 300.

The top-20 effort was Townley’s fifth top-20 finish of the 2009 season and third top-20 in four races for the 19-year-old rookie driver. The hard fought finish moved the Watkinsville, GA native up two positions to 27th in the driver point standings and one spot in the 2009 owner point standings to 32nd; 377 markers behind 31st and 379 points outside the top-30.

In qualifying on Saturday morning, Townley wheeled his Zaxby’s Ford Fusion around the 2-mile D-shaped oval in 40.900 seconds (176.039 mph) locking the team into the field with a 23rd-place starting position for the 30th event on the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule.

When the green flag dropped Saturday afternoon, the rookie maintained his ground in the top-25 for the first 125 laps running as high as 16th and as low as 26th fighting tight conditions on late entry. Crew chief Brad Parrott brought the yellow and blue Zaxby’s Ford down pit road three times during six yellow flags for four tires and fuel and to make minor adjustments on the chassis.

However, running 17th on lap 126 John Wes Townley and the No. 38 machine of Jason Leffler made contact in Turn 2 bringing out the seventh caution. Townley would suffer from left side damage and made the long trip down pit road for repairs.

John Wes Townley

The Zaxby’s team changed four tires; beat out the front fender and the left quarter panel and also made a chassis adjustment. When green flag racing resumed on lap 128 Townley was scored in the 31st position the first car one lap down.

Fortunately, for the Zaxby’s team another caution flag would be displayed just four laps later and the No. 09 machine would be awarded the “Lucky Dog” putting John Wes Townley back on the lead lap. Townley would restart 29th with just 15 laps to go in the 150-lap event.

Marching his way up the leaderboard Townley was up to the 21st position with just five laps remaining and clinched four more positions during a green-white-checker finish to bring home a 17th-place finish to race winner, Joey Logano in the race extended 152-lap event.

Next up for RAB Racing is the Dollar General 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Townley has one start at the 1.5-mile quad oval finishing 27th in the 2008 Dollar General 300.

Although the ill-timed finished took the 19-year-old Watkinsville, GA native out of contention for another top-20 finish, the No. 09 team was able to gain ground in the 2009 owner point standings. Townley and the No. 09 Zaxby’s team currently sit 33rd in the standings with 1,908 points; just 48 markers behind 32nd and 478 points outside the top-30.

In time trials Saturday morning Townley lapped the 1.5-mile oval in 31.640 seconds (170.670 mph) posting the 16th-fastest qualifying time of the 51 drivers entered for the 43-car field; lining up the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford on the outside of row eight for Saturday’s 200-lap event.

The 43-car field took the green flag in front of an estimated crowd of 81,000 under sunny skies and cold temperatures. The goal for the Zaxby’s team this week after coming off a fourth top-20 finish the week before at Dover was to be competitive and finish the race. However, Townley’s work would be cut out for him as he radioed in to the crew early on that his No. 09 Zaxby’s machine was fighting tight handling conditions.

Following the first caution of the afternoon for an accident involving the 81 machine of Patrick Sheltra a long green flag run would come into play. Townley settled in to the top-20 by lap 12 and was scored one of 28 cars one lap down by lap 30 and only one of 18 cars on the lead lap when the leaders began hitting pit road at lap 55.

John Wes Townley

However, on lap 59, running 14th, the right rear tire would expire on the No. 09 machine destroying the right rear quarter panel and bringing out the second caution of the afternoon. Townley was able to keep the yellow and blue Zaxby’s Ford off the wall and drive the machine to pit road for four tires. It was then that Townley radioed in to the crew that he didn’t have any brakes, forcing crew chief Brad Parrott to bring the bruised machine back to the garage to repair the damage and brakes.

Townley returned to the racing surface at lap 89, 30 laps down to the race leader in the 33rd position. The No. 09 would stay out on the track for 50 more laps and gain two more positions before parking the machine on lap 139 due to handling problems and suspension.

Townley would be scored 100 laps down in the 31st-positon and Joey Logano would go on to win his fourth NNS race of 2009.

Up next for John Wes Townley and RAB Racing is the Copart 300 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana California. Townley has one previous start on the 2-mile D-shaped oval starting 14th and finishing 22nd in the 2009 Stater Bros. 300 in February.

The stop, The Monster Mile at Dover International Speedway. After being out of the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford for three weeks Townley got back behind the wheel at what he calls his “favorite track” on the circuit and proved that theory by bringing home an 18th place finish in the Dover 200 on Saturday.

The solid effort was Townley’s best finish at the 1-mile oval and his fourth top-20 finish in 20 starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Additionally, the Watkinsville, GA native closed the gap on 32nd in the 2009 championship owner point standings. The No. 09 entry remains 33rd with 1,838 points; just 57 markers behind 32nd and 434 points outside the top-30.

John Wes Townley

Townley started off the weekend by gracing the top of the speed charts in 8th during the morning practice session on Friday. With confidence in his Zaxby’s Ford, the 19-year-old rookie was able to back up those speeds with a lap time of 23.931 seconds (150.432 mph) on Saturday morning, locking the No. 09 team into the field with an 8th place starting position; a career best start for the team.

As clouds rolled in, the cars rolled off the starting grid for the 200 lap event at the Monster Mile. Townley easily settled into the top-15 during the opening laps of the race and ran competitively inside the top-20 for the first 100-laps of the caution free event. Due to the long green-flag run there were only 11 cars on the lead lap and Townley was scored 2 laps down to race leader, Kyle Busch when the first caution flag was displayed on lap 110 for debris.

Brad Parrott brought the yellow and blue Zaxby’s Ford Fusion down pit road for the second time on lap 112 for four Goodyear Eagles including an air pressure adjustment and fuel. The solid stop would line the No. 09 machine up on row 10 in the 20th position for the final 85 laps.

A strong chassis and smart driving would keep the No. 09 machine inside the top-20 for the rest of the afternoon. Crew chief Brad Parrott and the Zaxby’s team worked throughout the remainder of the race to gain the two laps they lost early on but were unsuccessful due long green flag racing. However, Townley was able to gain two positions in the closing 10 laps to finish 18th, two laps down to race winner Clint Bowyer.

Up next for the No. 09 Zaxby’s team is Kansas Speedway for the Kansas Lottery 300 on Saturday, October 3rd. Townley has one prior start at the 1.5-mile oval finishing 15th in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series Kansas Lottery $150 Grad.

Travis Kvapil and the No. 09 Zaxby’s team overcame a 35th-place qualifying effort and on-track adversity to bring home a respectable 20th-place finish in the Virginia 529 College Savings 300; posting RAB Racing’s 5th top-20 finish of the 2009 season.

Rolling off the starting grid from row 18, the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford wasted no time moving through traffic and was scored in the 23rd position by lap 10 of the 250-lap event. Kvapil commented early on that the car was free in the center and needed more rear grip. When the evening’s second caution flag was displayed for an incident in turn-2, Brad Parrott called the No. 09 machine down pit road for 4 tires, fuel, a track bar and air pressure adjustment. When the field went back to green on lap 45, Kvapil was scored in the 21st position.

Over the next 15 laps, Kvapil would lose five positions and commented that the car was free. At lap 62, Kvapil came over the radio to say the right rear tire was flat, ultimately forcing the team to pit under green-flag conditions to change right side tires only. The unfortunate situation left the No. 09 machine two laps down in the 32nd position.

Kvapil would slowly make his way back up the scoreboard during a long green flag run and was sitting in the 26th position when the third caution flag was waved for debris. Pit strategy would play a very important role in getting Kvapil track position as Parrott decided to keep the yellow and blue machine out on the track. The Zaxby’s Ford was scored 25th only one lap down to race leader Kyle Busch when racing resumed on lap 130.

Fortunately for the Zaxby’s team a caution flag was displayed just six laps later for an incident in turn-4. Parrott was able to bring the No. 09 machine down pit road for the team’s final stop. Four tires, fuel and a spring rubber out of the right rear were in order. An above average pit stop allowed Kvapil to exit the pit stall in the 23rd position. Green-flag action resumed at lap 141.

Kvapil continued to hold his own in the 22nd position but due to a long green flag run on the .750-mile short track he lost another lap to VA native Denny Hamlin on lap 186. When the evening’s fifth and final caution flag was displayed at lap 226 for debris Parrott opted to stay out again to gain back one of the two laps Kvapil had lost.

With 20 laps to go Kvapil restarted 20th one lap down. However, with the leaders on new tires and a 20-lap stint to the end Kvapil would settle for a 20th-place finish two laps down to race winner Carl Edwards.

The solid effort was Kvapil’s eighth top-20 finish in 11 starts at Richmond International Raceway. Additionally, Kvapil’s efforts moved the No. 09 entry up to 33rd in the 2009 championship owner point standings with 1,729 points; just 102 markers behind 32nd and 529 points outside the top-30.

Up next for RAB Racing is the Dover 200 from Dover International Speedway. John Wes Townley will be back behind the wheel of the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford Fusion for what he calls his favorite track on the circuit. Townley, a 2009 Raybestos Rookie, has two starts on the 1-mile oval.

Kvapil will be making his 5th career NASCAR Nationwide Series start this weekend at Richmond International Raceway. Although this will be Kvapil’s first NNS start at the .750-mile oval, he is no stranger to the track. With 11 previous starts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and IROC Series, Kvapil sat on the pole in the NCWTS and posted a best finish of 9th in 2003.

“I really like Richmond,” said Kvapil. “It is a fun race track with multiple grooves and it allows for a lot of side-by-side racing and a good show for the fans.”

“My goal for this weekend is first and foremost a good qualifying lap,” continued Kvapil. “The No. 09 entry is not locked into the show but I feel like I have plenty of experience at Richmond to know what I need in the car. I have confidence in the RAB Racing team and at the end of the day, I will be happy with a top-15 finish.”

This is not the first time Kvapil has sported the yellow and blue paint scheme for Zaxby’s; John Wes Townley and Travis Kvapil shared a seat in the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford F-150 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2008 for Roush Fenway Racing.

“I was fortunate enough to drive a hand-full of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races for Zaxby’s in 2008 and they even sponsored me in a Sprint Cup Series race,” stated Kvapil. “They are great friends of mine and I am very excited about the opportunity to work with them again and truly honored that they have confidence in me to run the Zaxby’s Ford this weekend at Richmond.”

Flag-to-flag coverage of the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2 Friday, September 11th. Practice for the event is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and qualifying is slated for 4:05 p.m. on Friday, September 11th.

The No. 09 entry remains 34th in the 2009 championship owner point standings with 1513 points; 452 points outside the top-30.

During Friday afternoon’s time trials, the 19-year-old rookie toured the .533-mile oval in 16.169 seconds (118.672 mph) locking the Raybestos Rookie contender into the field with a 21st place starting position.

Townley lined up on the inside of row 11 for the 250-lap event and remained just outside of the top-20 for the opening 30 laps. While the leaders stayed on the track, crew chief Brad Parrott brought the No. 09 machine down pit road under caution for fuel and a chassis adjustment to aid in the handling of a loose race car. Townley restarted 25th when the field when back to green on lap 35.

Just four laps later the evening’s third caution flag was displayed for an accident in turn-3. While the leaders hit pit road Townley was able to stay out on the track and would restart 18th on lap 47.

The No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford would remain in the 18th position over the next seven laps until the fourth caution flag was displayed for a multi car accident involving the leaders on lap 54. Unfortunately, Townley would run over debris on the front stretch puncturing the left rear tire and would be forced to bring the yellow and blue machine down pit road for four tires and fuel.

The multi-car incident would bring out the red flag for over 15 minutes and the No. 09 machine would be penalized for pulling up to pit and pitting too early. When green flag racing resumed on lap 58 the Zaxby’s machine would restart 30th one lap down.

Townley would remain just inside the top-30 over the next 50 circuits until the 19-year-old rookie tagged the wall on lap 112. The No. 09 machine would suffer from right side damage and front end damage. Parrott would bring the Zaxby’s Ford down pit road four times over the next 29 laps to fix the front end alignment on the machine.

However, on lap 150 Townley would lose control of the ill handling race car once again and this time be forced to bring the yellow and blue machine behind pit wall. Townley would be scored with a 33rd-place finish, 121 laps down to race winner David Ragan.

Up next for Zaxby’s Racing is the Napa Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge from Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal Canada. Boris Said will be back behind the wheel of the No. 09 machine as he makes his third career NASCAR Nationwide Series start at the 2.71-mile road course. Said’s best start in Montreal is 4th (2007) and his best finish is 5th (2008).

Townley will be back behind the wheel of the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford in two weeks at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The Watkinsville, GA native will make his debut at his home track on Saturday, September 5th in the Degree V12 300.

Townley and the No. 09 Zaxby’s Racing team suffered from a mechanical failure early on, but a never never-quit attitude paid off with a 29th-place finish on Saturday.

On Thursday 50 teams took to the track for a six hour practice session before the official track schedule began on Friday. Townley was one of only a handful of driver’s that have ever toured the .875-mile oval. The Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender ran lap times competitively in the top-20 for most of the afternoon. However, just halfway through the session Townley was involved in an incident coming out of turn-4 with the No. 77 machine of Peyton Sellers. Both teams would be forced to pull out their back-up cars.

With just one hour remaining in the six hour practice session, Townley would get back out on the track and post his fastest lap of the afternoon 23.845 seconds (134.972 mph) placing the rookie 16th fastest on the board.

Due to such a hefty practice on Thursday the No. 09 team would only participate in the first of two practice sessions on Friday posting the 21st fastest time overall and the sixth fastest time of the 20 go-or-go home cars.

In time trials on Saturday, the Watkinsville, GA native was the 33rd of 50 cars to take time. His fast lap of 23.731 seconds (132.738 mph) was good enough to lock the No. 09 machine into the field with a 30th-place starting position.

When the 43-car field took the green flag in the third Dash-4-Cash event of the season Townley was sitting comfortably inside row 15. Just four laps into the 250-lap event he experienced a trackbar mount break which caused the right rear tire to expire, ultimately sending the No. 09 machine into the turn-2 wall. The Zaxby’s crew would spend just over 40 laps in the garage fixing the carnage on the machine.

John Wes Townley

Townley would return to the track in the 43rd position on lap 45. Due to being so many laps down crew chief Brad Parrott opted to make this a “no-pressure test” for the rookie. He focused on hitting his marks and making consistent lap times on the track and the Zaxby’s Racing team worked on solid pit stops off the track.

Townley plotted his way up the scoreboard over the next 200 laps and was shown 29th on the scoreboard when the checkered flag was displayed on lap 250. Brad Keselowski would make the winning pass against Kyle Busch to bring home his second NNS victory of 2009.

Due to the efforts of the 19-year-old rookie the Zaxby’s Racing team gained one position from 35th to 34th in the season long point standings with 1,309 points; just 334 outside the top-30.

Next up for RAB Racing is the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International on August 8th. Townley will step aside as Boris Said will take the wheel on the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford Fusion.

Said, who has six NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at The Glen including one top-5, two top-10’s and one pole to his credit will be making his debut for RAB Racing at the 2.45-mile road course.

Said, who has six NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at The Glen including one top-5, two top-10’s and one pole to his credit will be making his debut for RAB Racing at the 2.45-mile road course filling in for rookie John Wes Townley.

“I’m really excited to drive a Ford for RAB Racing at Watkins Glen,” stated Said. “I’m really fond of Zaxby’s and I love their chicken! I’ve eaten enough of their new chicken parmesan sandwiches to feed a small army. But, when it comes down to it, I really like driving these cars on road courses and we will get some good things going at Watkins Glen.”

Boris Said, who has been touted a perennial “road course ringer”, has helped other notable drivers such as Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kevin Harvick.

John Wes Townley, a 2009 Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, has one start on a road course to his resume; finishing 18th in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Loud Energy Drink 150 at New Jersey Motorsports Park in 2008. The Watkinsville, GA native currently has three top-20 and seven top-25 finishes in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and sits 25th in the driver point standings and 34th in the 2009 championship owner point standings; 271 points outside the top-30.

“I haven’t raced on a road course since September of 2008,” stated Townley. “Even then that was my first attempt at a road course and to be quite honest I struggled. At this stage in the game we are outside of the top-30 in points and required to qualify in the field on time and more than anything every point counts to get us out of this hole. I know that Boris will help this team not only excel at a solid qualifying effort he will also be very competitive all weekend, and therefore I am willing to step aside.”

In preparation for the Zippo 200 RAB Racing will attend a test at Road Atlanta on Tuesday, July 21st with both Said and Townley. While at the 2.54-mile road course Said will help Townley with road course racing technique in a two-seater car.

“This test is not just about Boris testing the car for Watkins Glen. It is a learning experience for me as well,” Townley said. “Boris is such a talented, accomplished and respected driver in the series but his road course racing resume speaks for itself.”

Although Townley will not be behind the wheel of the Zaxby’s Ford Fusion, the Watkinsville GA native will be in attendance during the August 8th race weekend at Watkins Glen International. The 19-year-old rookie will spend valuable time with Said at the track taking in everything and learning as much as he can.

Flag-to-flag coverage of the Zippo 200 at The Glen is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 Saturday August 8th. Practice for the event is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET and 5:30 p.m. ET on Friday, August 7th. Qualifying is slated for 10:10 a.m. ET on Saturday, August 8th.

Townley will be back behind the wheel of the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford Fusion the following weekend at Michigan International Speedway for the Michigan 250 on August 15th.

The top-25 finish was the Raybestos Rookies sixth of the season.

Due to Townley’s efforts the Zaxby’s Racing team advanced one position from 35th to 34th in the season long championship point standings with 1,111 points; 286 points outside the top-30.

Threatening skies cleared out for the 49 cars attempting to make Friday night’s main event. Townley was the 40th car to take time and his quick lap of 31.035 seconds (173.997 mph) was good enough to lock the Watkinsville, GA native into the field with a 22nd place starting position.

Rolling off the starting grid on the outside of row 11, Townley raced comfortably inside the top-25 for the opening laps of the 300-mile event.

Long periods of green flag action came into play including a round of green flag pit stops. It wasn’t until lap 93 that the 43 car field was slowed down due to debris. The yellow and blue Zaxby’s Ford Fusion was scored in the 24th position two laps down.

John Wes Townley

A majority of the field hit pit road during the caution period but crew chief Brad Parrott made the call to leave the No. 09 machine out on the track. When racing resumed on lap 97 Townley was scored 21st only one lap down to race leader Kyle Busch.

With more than 63 laps on his tires and inside his fuel window Townley was forced to pit on lap 119 under green. Parrott rolled the dice once again and only called for two right side tires and fuel. The Zaxby’s Ford was down and away and sitting in the 27th position following the stop.

Green flag conditions continued for another 66 laps as the leaders began pitting on lap 150. Townley was up to the 22nd position but down on fuel by lap 180 and was going to be forced to pit again on lap 186 under green. However, at lap 185 the second and final caution flag of the evening was displayed for debris.

The gamble paid off and Townley was able to bring his No. 09 machine down pit road under caution for four fresh Goodyear tires and a splash of Sunoco fuel. When the field returned to green on lap 191 Townley was scored in the 21st position which is where he remained over the closing nine laps.

Joey Logano would go on to win his first race at Chicagoland Speedway and Busch, Vickers, Leffler, and Harvick would round out the top-5.

Next up for the Townley and the Zaxby’s Racing team is the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 at Gateway International Raceway beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET live on ESPN2.
