The three-day session, which runs from Friday, December 16 to Sunday, December 18th, has become a prelude for the season opening Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 Saturday, February 18th.

In preparation for the first battle of 2012, Coulter Motorsports will partake in all three days of the test, running their synonymous No. 16, along with their No. 61 and 61B. Tapping their extensive driver pool, the team will have Matt Lofton (No. 16), Joey Coulter (No. 61) and TJ Duke (No. 61B) on hand at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. Led by 2010 ARCA championship crew chief Jon Wolfe, Coulter Motorsports plans to log laps in both single-car runs as well as the traditional “drafting” practice.

“It’s great to get back behind the wheel of the No. 16, especially at a place so iconic and steeped with history, as Daytona,” said Lofton. “I’m really looking forward to the test and getting a chance to work with not only Jon (Wolfe), but my teammates Joey (Coulter) and TJ (Duke). Anytime you can pull information from teammates and use it collectively, I feel you are really placing yourself a step ahead.”

“Daytona (International Speedway) is such an expansive place, one in which I haven’t logged any laps yet and I am really looking forward to this test with Coulter Motorsports,” commented Duke. “I was fortunate enough to run select NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series races last year and I know joining forces with such a great team for this test, will only help boost my learning curve.”

“Even though Homestead (Miami Speedway) was only a few weeks ago, I feel like I have been out of a racecar for months,” said Coulter. “It’s really exciting to be linked back with Coulter Motorsports for the ARCA test and I look forward to logging more laps and gathering as much data as possible.”

“Riggs Racing Patriarch is Retiring, So Plenty of Choices Are Ahead of Him”

HAMPSTEAD, NH (November 2, 2010) – In the past few weeks, Andy Seuss has put a lid on his 2010 racing season. Those have been a busy few weeks too. Seuss won the pole and then narrowly missed claiming the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship in that season finale at Charlotte Motor Speedway (NC). He then ended his “Northern” swing of the season by finishing fifth in the Modified Racing Series portion of Oktoberfest at Lee USA Speedway (NH).

Now it’s time to look ahead to the 2011 season and at this point, Seuss does not have a clue what lies ahead. A return to the Riggs Racing #47 Modified that he has driven to seven NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour victories over the last three seasons is in question as the team’s patriarch, David Riggs, is retiring after a long and successful run as one of the South’s most storied car owners.

Right now, the young New Hampshire driver is a bit of a free agent, but instead of being stressed about what the next step in his racing career might be, Seuss is looking forward to what opportunities might lie ahead.

“I’m very excited to see what happens next,” said Seuss. “We had a great run with Riggs Racing over the past few years and came close to winning two [NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour] championships. We could work something out to continue something with those guys or another Modified team or we could go in a different direction all together. Right now, I just want to see what is out there, so I’m putting my name into the mix for any rides and opportunities that are available.”

Although he is best known for being a successful Modified driver, with victories and championships to his credit from Maine to Florida, Seuss would be interested in full fendered opportunities in Super Late Models, Late Models, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East or the USARacing Pro Cup as well. Prior to running a touring Modified, Seuss competed in the Late Model division at Lee USA Speedway (NH).

“I love racing a Modified, but I love racing anything,” said Seuss. “I haven’t run a stock car in a few years, but I do miss those cars. Really, any top ride in any division is something I would jump at. I’d be willing to consider anything part-time or full-time and I’d even like to try some dirt racing.”

Although David Riggs is retiring, there is still some hope that Seuss could return to the Riggs Racing team. If sponsorship can be found to continue the team, the rest of Riggs Racing is willing to continue on with Seuss as their driver. The team is also available to merge into another Southern Modified operation if that opportunity can be found.

“I love working with those guys and it would be sad to see what we have end,” said Seuss. “But this is an expensive sport and even though those guys are the best at stretching a dollar, we would need some help to continue on. We’re working on finding some sponsorship though. The Riggs Racing team is great when it comes to working with sponsors. Some of the most important things that I learned driving for the team were off the track. I learned how to represent a Fortune 500 company.”

Riggs Racing has been involved with several major companies through the years including Advance Auto Parts, Valvoline and Quaker State / Shell. Working with a fraction of the budget that some of the top teams on the Tour have, Riggs Racing has won 17 events in the six-year history of the Tour, which is by far the highest of any team out there, including two-car operations. Riggs Racing drivers have been voted as the NASCAR WSMT Most Popular Driver more times than any other team on the Tour.

More important to a potential marketing partner though is the fact that Riggs Racing prides themselves as not just winning on the racetrack, but helping a sponsor to win in the marketplace as well. Riggs Racing has worked with sponsors to develop turn-key programs that have provided brand exposure, built customer loyalty and provided hospitality opportunities for customers and employees at race events.

Seuss is also involved in Modified racing with the New Hampshire-based #70 SS Motorsports team, which could continue with a schedule of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and Modified Racing Series events if sponsorship can be found.

Tim Russell

LONGWOOD, FL (September 20, 2010) – Tim Russell seems almost unbeatable this season in the Florida Super Late Model world. The multi-time champion in the Sunshine State has put together a very impressive run that has equaled a total of eight wins, including his most recent at Auburndale Speedway (FL). Russell won the pole and rocketed from this sixth-place redraw to win the 100 Super Late Model event on Saturday.

“We worked really hard to keep our success going at Auburndale,” said Russell. “We hadn’t seen the place before this year and now we have three wins in four starts. It speaks a lot about our crew and team that we can be this successful all year long. It’s a tough little track, as is the case with any quarter-mile, but we took a liking to it real quick.”

Russell took the lead on lap 66 after starting sixth in the 22-car field. He then led the final 34 circuits to score his eighth win of the 2010 season. To have eight wins this season after the way things started in February has been simply amazing for the 27-year-old Floridian.

“The year started out with us having lots of trouble at New Smyrna Speedweeks,” said Russell. “We wrecked one car and we had some issues in the other races that really left us down. My crew and all the guys who volunteer time to work on this team have been the reason why we have turned things around. Winning is not about me as a driver, but the whole team’s effort.”

The number-36 Insurance Offices of America Chevy will make another stop at Auburndale Speedway on October 16th for a special 100-lapper that will pay $5,000 to the winner. The Russell Motorsports group hopes they can be as strong in that event like they have been all season.

“There is still one more big show at Auburndale and we want to win that one too,” added Russell. “There is a lot of money on the line for that one. We are planning on trying a few new things to see if we can be just a little quicker next time out. We were really close to the track record and hope with the cooler temps next month we can break it.”

Russell will return to the driver seat this Saturday, September 25th as the Super Late Models of the BRIGHTHOUSE Challenge Series take on New Smyrna Speedway. Russell will look to avenge a photo-finish loss in his last trip to New Smyrna in order to score his ninth win of the season.

The CRA feature – the US Auto Sales World Series of Speed 100 – would be just that, 100 laps of green-flag racing cautions not counting. Additionally, restarts for the CRA Super century battle will be double file, not single file this time around.

The CRA cars and stars opened the 2010 Gresham Motorsports Park racing season when a total of 26 competitors took the green flag on Saturday, March 13. Augie Grill took the win over Chase Elliott, Bubba Pollard, Jason Hogan and Mike Garvey that evening.

Another full field – along with competition in the Outlaw Late Model, Renegade Street Stock, Mini Stock, Truck and Mini-Cup divisions – will be featured in the Saturday, July 17 program.

“We’re very excited to have the CRA Super Series come back to Gresham Motorsports Park,” said GMP General Manager Dan Elliott. “They put on a very competitive event with lots of action and drama the last time they were here in March and we anticipate they will do that again. We should have great racing in all of our divisions on July17. It’s going to be a great show.”

An open test for all divisions competing in the US Auto World Series of Speed at GMP will be held on Friday, July 16. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. Eastern Time. There is no inspection fee for this test and pit passes are just $20. A two-day, weekend pit pass will also be available for $55 on Friday.

Sunoco 110 race fuel will be available to purchase at this test.

Additionally, the GMP Infield Concession Stand will be open that evening.

The public is welcome to view the open test free of charge from the GMP Trackside Parking Area beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. Gresham Motorsports Park is located next to the Jackson County Airport at 500 Lyle Field Road in Jefferson, GA.

The test will feature rotating division of on-track testing from 6-9 p.m. GMP will close at 9:30 p.m. Friday and reopen the pit area on Saturday – raceday – at 11:30 a.m. Spectator and Trackside Parking opens at 2 p.m.

Blizzard Series at Five Flags Speedway

PENSACOLA, FL (June 23, 2010) – As summer hits the Sunshine State this week, the focus of the upcoming Blizzard Series race is not the weather, but a change in the pit stop procedure. For years, the Blizzard races would feature an optional pit stop for two tires at any point during the event. However, with tough economic times track officials at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida have decided to institute a halfway break instead of allowing live pit stop, in an effort to aid the teams who can’t produce a full pit crew.

“It’s definitely going to change the races in a lot of different ways,” said point leader Bubba Pollard. “It’s still going to be the same old Five Flags, but we were big fans of the pit stops and that type of racing. I know the fans enjoy it, but now we’re going to have to make up for it on the track and not in the pits.”

Not all drivers see it the same way, Mike Garvey who’s returned to the Late Model scene as a driver this season, understands the efforts of the track.

“It’s fine with me. As long as they police it right it’ll work,” said Garvey. “It’s cheaper for the racers because they don’t have to bring a full pit crew which can get pretty costly. It’s really tough to field a full team with these tough economic times, I think it will work.”

Over the years, the live pit stop has made the Blizzard Series very exciting and very unpredictable. In recent years guys like Ryan Sieg, Casey Smith, Eddie Mercer and several others have lost races in the pits after having been in the lead.

“We won a race earlier this because of some good pit strategy and we have lost a few races thanks to the pit stops,” added Pollard. “We like the element of the live stop because to win you have to be at your best.”

Garvey also offered a reminder to those who are missing the live pit stops.

“It’s so hard to do the live pit stops for the extra races,” added Garvey. “It’s already expensive to race these cars and fans will still get to see live stops at the Snowball Derby.”

Lost in the shuffle of the pit stop story, is the point battle we have shaping up on in the Blizzard Series and in the Gulf Coast Championship Series. Chase Elliott, winner of the last race at Five Flags Speedway, trail Bubba Pollard by only two points heading into the USA Digital 100 on Friday night. Defending Blizzard Series Champion Johanna Long is lurking in third spot and heads into Pensacola riding momentum.

Action gets underway with practice at 4pm for the Super Late Models and Features starting at 8pm. In addition to the Super Late Models the Super Stocks, Sportsman and Bombers will be on the racing cars this Friday night.

“This is a great place to test,” said Busch of the half-mile Gresham Motorsports Park oval. “The track is really repeatable. We’re using a Martinsville tire today, so it’s not exactly the right tire for this place, but we’re still getting a lot of good data. The track is new and it’s nice and smooth. It has a lot of grip. If you can run the bottom, it’s pretty fast. It’s going to be really fast in a year or two when it wears out a little.”

Busch, along with his Penske Racing NASCAR Nationwide Series teammate Justin Algaier, spent the day taking turns lapping the GMP track. During a break, Busch took time out to film a segment for Inside NASCAR for Showtime TV. That program is scheduled to air Wednesday, March 10 at 10 p.m. Eastern Time.

Gresham Motorsports Park will open its 2010 racing season this Saturday with a multi-division spectacular headlined by a Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series 125-lap Super Late Model event. Saturday’s GMP season-opening program will also feature Outlaw Late Models, Trucks, Renegade Street Stocks and multiple divisions of US Legends International Legend and Bandolero racers.

Tickets for Saturday’s 2010 season-opening event at Gresham Motorsports Park are available on line at www.GreshamMotorsportsPark.ticketforce.com and at the Gresham Motorsports Park at-track Administrative Offices all this week from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Advance Ticket Phone Orders are also available by calling 706-367-9461 during regular business hours.

BRASELTON, GA (January 31, 2010) – You’d have never guessed Russell Fleeman hadn’t been in a CRA Super Series Late Model Stock Car in more than a year based on his performance in Sunday’s Speedfest 250 at Lanier National Speedway.
“I think the last time I drove a Super was at Nashville in 2008,” said Fleeman, (right) who was making his first-ever appearance in a Gresham Motorsports ride. “I really enjoyed having a big horsepower engine under the hood again. The whole weekend was really fun. That is, until we got wrecked and knocked out of the race.”

Fleeman had little time to get used to the seat normally occupied by Max Gresham as cold, wet weather washed out all but a few laps of practice over two days at the Braselton, GA paved oval. Still, the veteran driver was able to qualify his No. 11 Gresham Motorsports racer 13th in the stellar field of 32 cars with a lap of 13.894 seconds.

“We knew we had a really good car, but we had so little practice that we had to make the decision to pretty much qualify with our race set-up,” said Fleeman. “I always like to make a run at the pole and I especially would have liked to do that for the Gresham’s but Gene (GMS crew chief Gene Roberts), the crew, and I talked and we decided the best thing to do was to have a good set-up for the race.”

The team strategy decision quickly paid off as Fleeman rocketed his way into the top-10 just three laps into the event and ran as high as seventh before the race was flagged to a half for a halftime break on the 125th circuit.

Back on the track and ready to make his move to the front, Fleeman’s day was short-circuited when he was swept up into a multi-car accident on Lap 129.

“I’m not exactly sure what happened, but it looked like the car in front of me got tangled up with a lapped car,” Fleeman stated. “I got slowed down and would have missed it, but then David Stremme hit me from behind and shoved me into the wreck. It was really a shame – we were sixth or seventh at the time – and we were just cruising, waiting for the race to shake out and pass the cars in front of us one at a time. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to do that.”

His Gresham & Associates sponsored racer too badly damaged to continue, Fleeman called it a day and was officially credited with 22nd in the final running order. NASCAR Sprint Cup star Kyle Busch took the win followed by Steven Wallace, Jeff Fultz, Bubba Pollard and Drew Bannon.

“They have a great group of guys over here at Gresham Motorsports,” said Fleeman. “I’ve know most of them for a long time and they run a first-class operation. The goal was to win. There were a lot of great cars and drivers here and to run as well as we did says a lot about how good this team is. They usually have a good outcome. Even though we ran well, that unfortunately wasn’t the case for us today.”

Gresham Motorsports will field cars in several different divisions this season including an entry for Max Gresham in select 2010 ARCA events. The team is actively pursuing qualified candidates with sponsorship funding interested in campaigning its Super and Pro Late Model entries in 2010.

“Two-Time Snowball Derby Winner Out for Revenge as BDI Team Sets Sights On Derby Success”

BDI Racing Logo

CONCORD, NC (November 24, 2009) – BDI Racing has a successful record in the short track ranks, quickly becoming one of the top development programs in Super Late Model racing. Likewise, Bobby Gill is one of the most successful short track racers in the sport’s history, earning two Snowball Derby victories, four Pro Cup Series Championships and race wins throughout the Southeast and beyond in several different Super Late Model series.

But both driver and crew feel that there is something left unfinished as the calendar moves into December 2009. Gill may have two Derby victories, but a third was snatched away in post-race technical inspection in 2006 and the veteran racer had a strong, but not quite Championship-worthy season in Pro Cup in 2009. BDI Racing has been accustomed to challenging for victories in the Super Late Model ranks in years past, but bad luck hovered over the team and kept them out of victory lane so far in 2009.

That’s why when BDI Racing team owner and SPEED NASCAR television broadcaster Bob Dillner tabbed Bobby Gill to pilot the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s #51 Chevy in the 42nd Annual Snowball Derby on December 6th, both sides saw it as a chance for redemption in the race that the driver and team consider the most important one on their schedule.

“I’m excited for the Snowball Derby,” said Gill, who hopes to make his 20th career Snowball Derby start. “Last year I didn’t get to race, but Bob and I got together about a month ago and we got to work re-building this Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Chevy. It’s pretty much a brand-new car now so I’m really looking forward to it. I heard there’s a lot of good competition going down there, so hopefully we’ll go out there and be on top.”

BDI Racing has had several young and talented drivers behind the wheel of the #51 in recent seasons, including Michael Pope during much of 2009 and NASCAR Modified driver Ryan Preece in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Chevy in the 2008 Snowball Derby, where the team finished 14th after contending in the top-10 during the 300-lap event. But for the 42nd Annual Snowball Derby, Dillner looked towards a cagy veteran to help steer the #51 towards Derby success.

“I’m extremely excited to have someone with the talent and credentials of Bobby Gill behind the wheel of our Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Chevy in this year’s Snowball Derby,” said Dillner, who will be attending the Snowball Derby after covering the NASCAR Sprint Cup banquet in Las Vegas that weekend on SPEED. “We’re proud to have a two-time Snowball winner drive our car and his knowledge and stories have been great for the guys in the shop. We’ll go out there and give it the best we can give it to put ourselves in position to win and we’ll do it stuffed on some great Beef ‘O’ Brady’s food throughout Snowball week.”

For many drivers in the Snowball Derby field, success in the Snowball Derby could go a long way towards making a name for themselves in the racing industry. But for Gill, who is on the Derby record books with Rich Bickle, Wayne Niedecken, Dickie Davis, Freddy Fryar, Gary St. Amant, Gary Balough and Augie Grill as the only multiple-time winners of the race, this year’s edition of the event is another chance to claim the one thing that drives him – the Snowball Derby winner’s trophy.

“I love to win,” added Gill. “That’s all that matters is getting trophies. I just like racing. That’s all I’ve done all my life, so it’s hard to change that now. Everybody’s excited to go down there. You’re down there for about five days, so you’re able to sit back, relax, have fun and race.”

Fans of Bobby Gill, BDI Racing and short track racing in general have responded to the team’s efforts for putting fans’ names on the hood of the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s #51 during Snowball Derby Weekend. Fans and businesses from across the country have added their names to the #51 Chevy, including many industry insiders and NASCAR personalities.

Fans, racers and locals attending the Snowball Derby events are welcome to join the BDI Racing team each night during Snowball Derby week at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s restaurant for some great wings, burgers, steaks, drinks and more. Beef ‘O’ Brady’s is located on 2101 West Nine Mile Road in Pensacola, just a few minutes down the road from Five Flags Speedway.

Based in Concord, North Carolina, BDI Racing is a full-service short track development team that offers a “total package” approach to building strong racers both on the track and off. BDI Racing has a full fleet of cars from Quarter Midgets, Bandoleros, Legends Cars, Pro Challenge Series cars and Pro and Super Late Models. Several house drivers including make up the core of the BDI Racing development program, but opportunities are available in all facets of BDI Racing’s organization for the 2010 season.

(November 5, 2009) – Kevin Conway and ExtenZe Racing announced today that they will attempt to run all three NASCAR national series races – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series (# 26 ExtenZe Chevrolet) and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (# 71 ExtenZe Chevrolet) – at Phoenix International Raceway next weekend. The NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup cars will be available for photos on Saturday, November 7th at 7:45 a.m. CST on the frontstretch at Texas Motor Speedway.

Conway has never raced at Phoenix International Raceway, much less competed in NASCAR’s top three divisions in one weekend, but he is set to attempt to qualify for his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck Series debut at the one-mile oval. No driver in NASCAR history has ever attempted this feat.

“I’ve never been accused of doing things normally,” said Conway. “To make my Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck Series debut at a track that I have never even seen is pretty ambitious but I am excited to have this opportunity with ExtenZe. For ExtenZe Racing to pull this together in such a short amount of time is nothing short of a miracle. Everyone on this ExtenZe team is pumped to give it our best shot in Phoenix.”

ExtenZe will appear as Conway’s primary sponsor in all three races. Together they will attempt to compete in 850 miles of racing at Phoenix International Raceway.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Lucas Oil 150 will be televised live on Friday, Nov. 13 beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST on SPEED. The NASCAR Nationwide Series Able Body Labor 200 will follow on Saturday, Nov. 14 on ESPN2 at 4:00 EST with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rounding up the weekend with Sunday’s Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 presented by Pennzoil on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. EST on ABC.

About Kevin Conway

Conway, a Lynchburg, Va. native, has steadily moved up within the ranks of motorsports from a diverse and successful racing background. He first competed in AMA Motocross at only six years old. His racing career continued on to WKA go-karts, INEX Legend Cars, Super Late Models, ASA, USAC Midgets and Silver Crown, ARCA RE/MAX Series, and the NASCAR Grand National (Camping World) West Series. Conway is currently a NASCAR Nationwide Series regular and, now, is set to make his Camping World Truck and Sprint Cup Series debut.

Now those who can’t make the trek to the Mid-Atlantic can still enjoy some of the flavor of the prestigious event. Officials from the North-South Shootout, in addition to 51 Radio and RaceTalkRadio.com, announced today that the Modified Portion of the event (the John Blewett III Memorial), as well as the inaugural CRA sanctioned Super Late Model race, will be broadcast over internet radio.

Fans at the track will be able to catch spectacular racing action at Concord Speedway, including Tour-Type Modifieds, SK Modifieds, TBARA Sprints and Super Late Models, but for those that cannot make it to the track, Speed51.com, the internet leader in short track racing news coverage, will be on hand to provide blanket coverage of the event, including live play-by-play radio coverage, a 51 Radio production to be aired on RaceTalkRadio.com. The broadcast is scheduled to begin on Saturday at approximately 2pm.

“The Speed 51 and RaceTalkRadio partnership has brought fans many of the biggest races of the season and we are proud to add the North-South Shootout to our lineup,” said Dennis Michelsen, owner of RaceTalkRadio.com. “We encourage fans to get to the track to see this event in person, but if you can’t make it, enjoy it on RaceTalkRadio.com.”

The event will not only be broadcast online, but also at NASCAR’s event at Texas Motor Speedway via the Racing Electronics airwaves. Using your scanner, you can tune into frequency 454.5000 to hear all the action.

“I will be out in Texas with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, but I know a lot of us in the garage will be getting together to listen to the North-South Shootout,” said Bob Dillner, SPEED reporter and Speed51.com Executive Editor. “It’s become one of the most prestigious Modified races in the country and now that they’ve added the Super Late Models as well, it’s really one of the ‘Mac-Daddy’ events. I know there’s going to be a great crowd there, but for all of us who can’t make it, listening to RaceTalkRadio.com is the next best thing.”

Speed51.com will also be on hand throughout the weekend to provide Trackside Now coverage of the event through the website.

“It’s one of my favorite races of the year,” said Matt Dillner, co-owner of Speed51.com. “I am excited to be able to call the races with Duke Kentfield and Elgin ‘Stat-Boy’ Traylor this weekend. Jason “Stix” Buckley will be conducting the Trackside Now coverage on Speed51.com so fans will be able to get an unbelievable interactive experience. There will be pictures, quotes from the drivers and even some videos on Speed51Video.com. Combine that with the fact that FOX Sports South is going to televise the events on November 28th and it shows how big this event has gotten.”

Speed51.com is one of the most popular short track racing websites in the country, which led parent company 51 Sports to create 51 Radio, an online show featuring in-depth analysis of all the hottest racing news and interviews from the sport’s biggest personalities every Tuesday night on RaceTalkRadio.com.
RaceTalkRadio.com ownership combines NASCAR writers Dennis Michelsen and Mike Harper with the creative talents of digital media artist Lori Munro. This unique blend has produced some of the most cutting-edge programming in the racing industry. RaceTalkRadio has grown from a single show years ago to four nights a week of race talk entertainment, becoming the Internet’s leading original-content broadcast outlet for racing news and information.

51 Sports is the parent company of two of the largest short track racing news websites, Speed51.com and LegendsNation.com. Since 2001, Speed51.com has been the home for short track news and behind-the-scenes stories from series all around the country, from ARCA and NASCAR’s Touring Divisions, to the Super Late Model and Modified series from all across the country and much more. Racing Logo

CONCORD, NC (June 18, 2009) – Seventeen-year-old Kenzie Ruston has turned many heads in the Legends Car world during the past few months. With dozens of victories, including a five-race sweep of the Battle in the Bayou Semi-Pro class races at Monroe International Speedway in Louisiana in late May and early June, Ruston has emerged as one of the top talents in the country, male or female.

That recent hot streak has caught the eye of many racing insiders, including NASCAR on SPEED broadcaster Bob Dillner and his BDI Racing development team, which has signed Ruston for the young racer’s bid for the Legends Car Semi-Pro Championship in the 10-race 2009 Summer Shootout Series at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.

“I’m looking forward to working with Bob and BDI Racing with the Summer Shootout and hopefully more down the road,” said Ruston. “I think it will provide me with a plenty of exposure and a great learning experience. They work with a lot of great companies, like Chevrolet, so I am hoping I can make them all proud. I want some more big-car experience and I hope to get the chance to test a Late Model with BDI Racing – they have a great program.”

“Kenzie is a racer,” said Dillner. “When you approach her at the track you can see the dedication and determination in her eyes and that’s something a lot of young racers don’t have. Kenzie is serious about her racing; she has the looks and the drive to advance up the racing ladder and hopefully BDI Racing can be a part of that.”

Ruston’s skills have been showcased beyond her recent success in Louisiana. The young Oklahoman has notched several victories at Texas Motor Speedway already in 2009 and currently leads the Lone Star Legends Semi-Pro standings by a wide margin. In addition to her Legends Car prowess, Ruston has been gaining even more experience, on dirt, in a high-powered Mini Sprint at tracks throughout the Midwest and South.

All that experience Ruston is gaining in 2009 has paid off with early success, but also has allowed her to set lofty goals for her Summer Shootout and overall racing seasons.

“My goal for the Summer Shootout is to at least win one race, but I hope to win even more than that,” she said. “I know my car, which is set up by Dan Snyder, is fast and that we can go out there and beat them with a little luck. The Summer Shootout is the toughest Legends field in all of the country. For all 10 weeks, I hope to at least finish in the top-five. All season so far we’ve been competitive everywhere we’ve gone, so hopefully we can keep that up.

“In addition to the Shootout, we’ll be running Texas every other week when they run,” added Ruston. “We’re going to try to catch a couple big shows this year, too. We’re going to Lanier because Nationals are there this year and I really want to win the National Championship in Semi-Pro. No other girl has ever won a National Championship in Legends Cars and I’d love to be the first.”

Ruston got her 2009 Summer Shootout plans off to a solid start by meeting her main goals with a fourth-place finish in the first round of the 10-week series on Tuesday, June 9th. Ruston finished second in her heat, setting up a third-place starting spot in the main event, but an early spin forced her to make a rally in the late stages of the race to score a fourth-place finish.

“In the heat race, we got spun out on the second lap and had to go to the back. But, I was able to come back and finish second in the heat, so I started third in the feature. I was running well. Bolen (Jeff) and I left everybody. We raced right after the school bus race, so the track had oil all over it and I got into the corner a little too hot one time and spun out while running second. I dropped back to about 18th after that.

“We had a caution after that and I took the outside on a choose restart and worked back up to fourth at the end. I was surprised to get back up that far. All I was shooting for here in the first week was a top-five and I was really happy to get it. Once you have to go to the back, you just want to get the car back into the trailer in one piece, so a top-five run to start off is really good.”

Ruston followed up her top-five run in the opening round of the Summer Shootout with another solid seventh-place run in round two on Tuesday, June 16th.

Ruston will run under the BDI Racing development banner throughout the 2009 Summer Shootout and will be a BDI Racing teammate to 13-year-old Kyle Plott, who competes in the Young Lions class.

Based in Concord, North Carolina, BDI Racing is a full-service short track development team that offers a “total package” approach to building strong racers both on the track and off. BDI Racing has a full fleet of cars from Quarter Midgets, Bandoleros, Legends Cars, Pro Challenge Series cars and Super Late Models. Several house drivers including Michael Pope and Meghan Dillner make up the core of the BDI Racing development program, but opportunities are available in all facets of BDI Racing’s organization for the entire 2009 season.
