Promising Start at Charlotte Ends Early For Scott

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 1, 2010) – Brian Scott finished 33rd in the Tech-Net Auto Service 300 on Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 22-year-old Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender was running seventh when trouble struck.

Starting 8th in the field after a solid qualifying effort early Saturday morning, Scott quickly settled into the seventh spot at the drop of the green flag. Racing for the Levine Children’s Hospital, Scott admitted quickly that the children he visited with at Levine Children’s Hospital gave him some extra will power to add to his No. 11 GiveLCH.org Toyota Camry.

A yellow flag was thrown only three laps in for a crash in turn two. Scott quickly thanked the Braun Racing crew for an excellent car. On the lap nine restart, Scott started coming up through gears when the No. 11 Levine Children’s Hospital slowed suddenly. Scott quickly came on the radio stating his shifter was stuck. Bringing it to pit road, the No. 11 Braun Racing team quickly diagnosed the problem and brought Scott into the garage for repairs.

After changing an entire transmission, Scott returned to the track in 33rd place, 40 laps down. Treating the remaining laps  as a practice session, crew chief Billy Wilburn made many changes in an attempt to gain valuable race information. Scott finished in the 33rd position, 44 laps down.

“Unfortunately we had transmission trouble in practice and it seemed to strike again in the race,” Scott said after the race. “When we found the issue in practice, we bolted everything up tight and hoped for the best. You have to prove to NASCAR without a reasonable doubt that you have a legitimate problem in order to change something before the race. I just hate it for the kids that we were representing today. Although we gained some exposure for the Levine Children’s Hospital today, we just hoped it would end up in victory lane.”

This 33rd place finish puts Scott 11th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship standings, 4 points out of 10th and 701 points from the lead.

Next Stop: The NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to Nashville this weekend for the Federated Auto Parts 300.  The Saturday afternoon race will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN starting at 7:30 p.m. EST.  The green flag is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST.
