Rightfully so, as the young standout stayed near the top of the boards all week at the famed high-speed oval, turning heads every time he hit the track.

“Daytona Speedweeks this year was truly a thrilling experience,” commented Coulter. “We arrived 110% prepared and unloaded extremely fast and competitive, which made my job that much easier. Going into Saturday evening’s race, I couldn’t have been more pumped up and ready to race.”

Coulter would use the five-hour practice session on Thursday to hone in his No. 16 Rip It Energy Fuel, Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Tempest Cycles Chevrolet around the 2.5-mile superspeedway. ARCA rules mandated the session would be for single car runs only, saving drafting practice for Friday evening’s “happy hour.” This allowed veteran crew chief Harold Holly plenty of time to finesse their rocket ship and prepare it for qualifying the next morning.

As Thursday’s practice session came to a close, Coulter would find himself fourth fastest of the 52 times posted, at 49.488 seconds and 181.862 MPH. This would set the team up for a great qualifying run Friday morning. But before qualifying, Coulter found himself as a guest commentator on arcaracing.com, which allowed him to call out the first 10 qualifiers. After his broadcast stint, Coulter would pilot his No. 16 Rip It hotrod to a third starting spot for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200. He would turn a quick lap of 49.770 seconds at 180.832 MPH.

“Our car was super fast all week and it handled phenomenal,” said Coulter. “Harold (Holly) and the guys did a great job setting this thing up and getting it through practice and qualifying.”

Due to an intense thunderstorm, Friday evening’s “happy hour” was cancelled, allowing no drafting practice before Saturday’s big show. But Coulter was not worried and prepared for the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards season opener.

The green flag would wave over Coulter and his No. 16 Rip It Energy Fuel Chevrolet, and he immediately set his sights on the front. He would quickly move his way into second place before the completion of the first lap. The caution would soon wave for a lap six wreck, where Coulter would call in that his car was fast throughout the center and pulled on exit. Racing resumed on lap 16, however a slew of cautions would limit any green flag on-track activity, and a subsequent 21 minute, lap 27 red flag put a halt to all on track activity.

When the red was finally lifted and the yellow was shown, crew chief Harold Holly would bring Coulter to the pits for two fresh right-side Hoosier tires and a tank full of Sunoco race fuel. Coulter would restart the race in the eighth position with 31 laps showing on the board.

He would not, however let his restart position deter him as he quickly worked his way through traffic. Within four laps, Coulter passed several cars to find himself in a single car draft in the fourth position. He would remain in fourth, drafting in a single car freight train. A lap 53 caution gave Coulter and Holly and a chance to discuss the cars handling, where Coulter would report a snug feeling behind the car in front of him. Holly had Coulter turn a half-round of front brake in the car, which would almost immediately rectify the situation on the lap 56 restart.

Coulter and his No. 16 Rip It Energy Fuel Chevrolet stayed in the fourth position until a jolt, from a car behind on lap 65, sent him up the track and into the second groove. Coulter, finding himself alone in the outer line did his best to race against the car running below him. He stayed in the fifth spot, side by side with fourth, until a competitor came up from behind and shoved Coulter sideways and into the grass. Speeding through the wet grass, Coulter managed to keep his car in a straight line and regained control as he got back on the track entering turn one.

The green flag continued to wave, and Coulter found himself trying to regain the now faded draft. On lap 69 he would radio in that he had a left front flat and quickly made his way to the pits for a four-tire stop. After fixing the damage, the crew got the No. 16 back out, now two laps down. Coulter would remain composed and under control as he wrestled his Rip It Energy Fuel, Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Tempest Cycles Chevrolet to the checkered flag in 26th place.

“We got taken out and sent into the grass by a competitor of ours and it is really frustrating,” commented an infuriated Coulter. “We had the best car out there all night and I was just waiting for the right time to make my move. I want to thank Rip It Energy Fuel and my mom and dad for supporting me. I also want to thank Harold (Holly) and all of my guys for working so hard this week. We will be back even stronger at Palm Beach, and I can’t wait to get back racing.”

His first stop will be at Kansas Speedway for ARCA RE/MAX Series competition before continuing on to Martinsville Speedway for NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition.

“This is going to be an action-packed week for Coulter Motorsports, and I’m looking forward to competing in both events,” stated Coulter on his double-duty week. The Kansas Lottery 150 is race 20 of 21 on the ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. Following that will be the Bailey’s 300 at Martinsville Speedway.

The rookie of the year contender participated in an open test session at Kansas nearly a month ago, rounding the 1.5-mile track in 32.437 for an average speed of 166.477 miles per hour.

Coulter is looking to improve his time trials with the second trip to Kansas. “Since the test we’ve fixed some things on the racecar and, hopefully, we’ll come back Thursday and get a good qualifying lap, have a good clean consistent run, and be there in the top-five when the checkered flag waves.”

In the last two 1.5-mile appearances at Kentucky and Chicagoland Speedway, Coulter finished seventh and sixth, respectively.

The Kansas Lottery 150 will be a one day show for the ARCA RE/MAX Series with practice scheduled for Thursday, October 1 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., followed by Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 1 p.m. The Kansas Lottery 150 is scheduled to roll off at 4 p.m. All times listed are Central. The Kansas Lottery 150 will be aired LIVE on SPEED at 5 p.m. Eastern.

The Bailey’s 300 is a three day show for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series with most of Friday scheduled for technical inspection. On Saturday, October 3 teams will have two hours of practice beginning at 9 a.m. Time trials are set for 1 p.m. with the fastest 22 cars earning berths in Sunday’s 200-lap feature.

On Sunday, the first of four 25-lap heat races will begin at 12:30 p.m. The top five from each heat race advance to the feature, filling out the 42-car field. The 200-lap feature race will begin at 3 p.m.

However, late race contac t with the turn four wall hindered the Miami Springs, Florida driver from capturing what would have been his first career win in the ARCA RE/MAX Series competition.

In the only practice session Saturday, Coulter rounded the half-mile in a time of 17.603 or 113.503 miles per hour. That speed carried over into Menards Pole Qualifying as Coulter maneuvered his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS around the quirky short track for a time of 17.169 or 116.373 miles per hour to put him fourth on the starting grid.

As the green flag flew starting the 200 lap Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic, Coulter quickly advanced two positions and settled into second, behind the No. 6 of Justin Lofton. Coulter remained in second until scheduled pit stops came on lap 62. As Coulter took on four tires and fuel, the No. 44, 77, 25 and 4 took on only two tires. This shuffled Coulter back to sixth when the field restarted on lap 67.

By a mere 50 laps, Coulter had maneuvered his No. 16 machine back to second and began closing in on leader Justin Lofton. As Coulter and Lofton approached lap traffic on lap 136, Coulter took the lead and continually pulled away to extend his lead.

Coulter, at a blistering pace, lapped the entire field up to third place runner and championship point contender Parker Kligerman. Coulter came to pit road under caution on lap 169 for right side tires and a splash of fuel and remained in the lead as the field restarted on lap 173.

On lap 176 Coulter entered turn one and slid high, which allowed Lofton to get underneath for the lead on lap 177. As Coulter slipped to second, he looked to g ain ground on Lofton in hopes to regain the lead and continue on to his first career win of 2009. However, on lap 179 Coulter entered turns three and four high, and again, slid up the track and slammed the turn four wall. The damage was significant enough that Coulter was not able to return to racing action and was forced to settle for 15th position, with 180 laps completed.

“Our No. 16 Darrell Darrell Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS was great tonight. I hate it for this team because we work so hard, and the guys want a win just as bad as I do,” stated Coulter. “On lap 176 I locked the brakes up in turn one which allowed Justin Lofton to get by for the lead, but I honestly don’t know what happened in three and four. It was just very disappointing to have our evening cut short.”

Coulter, who led a total of 39 laps in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic, was the biggest challenger and only driver in the 29-car field to pass eventual race winner Justin Lofton.

The ARCA RE/MAX Series has a break from series competition before traveling to Kansas Speedway on October 1. The Kansas Lottery 150 will air LIVE on SPEED at 5 p.m. Eastern.

The Miami Springs, Florida native started 17th for the 67-lap event. As the green flag waved starting the 150-mile journey around the 12-turn road course, Coulter found himself in 12th position when a full course caution came out on lap three.

As the field restarted, Coulter settled into the 15th position and found a rhythm around the quirky road course. He remained in the 15th position until pit stops came on lap 30, when he brought his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevy to pit road for tires and fuel.

At the halfway mark, the 19-year-old rookie had made his way back up to the 12th position, where he consistently stayed until a full course caution came on lap 59. As several other teams opted to pit, Coulter stayed out.

With a five lap chase to the checkered flag in sight, Coulter was in 11th position. As the field went back to green-flag racing, Coulter remained in that position for the remainder of the race. As the checkered flag waved, Coulter brought home a solid 11th place finish in his first career road course start.

“I’m not going to lie, I struggled early on. I’ve never been on a road course before, so I got a little frustrated at times. We had a good point’s day, and I learned a lot. We’ll take an 11th place finish for my first road course race,” said Coulter after the race. “I’ll take this road course experience, along with our notes, and work on it for next year.”

Next up on the ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule is a trip back to Salem, Indiana for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic at Salem Speedway on September 19.

Coming off a well respected seventh place finish at Kentucky, where the 19-year-old had to resort to a back-up car after making contact with the turn two wall in qualifying Coulter stated, “I like the intermediate tracks a lot, but not as much as the short tracks. Our team has an excellent short track program going on right now and I want to be able to take advantage of it this Saturday night when we go to Berlin.”

Coulter continued, “I’ve heard that it’s an interesting place to race, I’ve looked it up and the fact that it doesn’t have a backstretch wall is a little awkward. However, our goal is just like any other weekend, go out and perform our best and be in contention to bring home that trophy when the checkered flag waves.”

Coulter’s most recent short track appearance came at Mansfield Motorsports Park, were he brought home a career-best second in the Tim Richmond Memorial 200.

To date, Coulter has competed in all eleven ARCA RE/MAX Series events and is currently fourth in the championship point standings. The Miami Springs, Florida native has one Menards Pole Award (Iowa), four consecutive top-five finishes, along with seven top-ten finishes in 2009.

The one-day show at Berlin Raceway gets underway Saturday, July 25 with practice scheduled from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. EST, followed by Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 5:00 p.m. The start of the Wolverine Power Systems 200 presented by Generac is scheduled to go off at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night.

The 19-year-old rookie had to start the Click It or Ticket Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 using a provisional, just one week after earning his career first Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell at Iowa Speedway. However, Coulter was able to maintain his top-ten streak by bringing home a seventh place finish.

“I was definitely going for it, I think we had a really good chance of getting our second Menards Pole Award but as I came off turn two the car came around and that’s when I made contact with the turn two wall,” stated Coulter. “I really have to thank my entire crew, they did a great job with bringing out the backup car and getting it race ready in such a short amount of time. The car is demolished, and I have to give thanks to the safety precautions, the SAFER barrier, as well as the use of the Safety Solutions Hybrid Pro device.”

Coulter rolled off the starting grid 33rd for the Click It or Ticket Buckle-Up Kentucky 150, and shortly after taking the green flag the Miami Springs, Florida native charged into 25th position before the caution flag flew on lap two for an incident involving the No. 90. Coulter would move into the top-20 as the caution flag flew once again on lap six for the No. 60 spinning on the front stretch.

Coulter continued to charge to the front and had moved into the 14th position when the caution flag flew approaching lap 25, which sent leaders to pit road. Crew Chief Harold Holly chose to make a track bar adjustment, along with four tires and fuel, which shuffled Coulter from inside the top-15 to 25th on the restart.

Ten green flag laps passed, and Coulter continued his charge to the front, gaining six positions which moved him into 19th. As several lead cars pitted, Holly told his driver to stay out for track position. Once the field restarted on lap 45, Coulter was 11th on the scoring pylon.

Nearing the halfway mark, Coulter brought his No. 16 Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevrolet down pit road one final time for fuel and a wedge adjustment. The adjustments would shuffle him back to the 25th position.

The final round of pit stops came just inside of the final 35 laps, but Coulter was good to go until the end, so he kept his No. 16 machine on the track as the leaders dashed down pit road. This strategy shifted Coulter from outside the top-15 to fifth as the field restarted on lap 69.

As the final green flag laps neared, the No. 77, 6 and 51 would get by Coulter, shifting him into the eighth position. But as the field approached the white flag, the No. 11 ran out of fuel, which moved Coulter into seventh position as the checkered flag waved.

“Overall it was still a good night for Coulter Motorsports, we brought out our back-up, started in the rear, charged from the back to the front on a couple of different occasions, and still brought home top-ten finish. Having to come from the back of the field definitely made for some excitement,” stated Coulter on his top-ten run.

Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is a one-day show at Berlin Raceway for the Wolverine Power Systems 200 presented by Generac Saturday, July 25. Practice is scheduled from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. EST Saturday, July 25 with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell following at 5:00 p.m. The start of the Wolverine Power Systems 200 presented by Generac is scheduled to go off at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night.

The 19-year-old has four consecutive top-five finishes, most recently a third place finish at Iowa Speedway. Bringing back the same No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevrolet the team participated with during the series’ open test, Coulter looks to continue the top-five streak as he heads into Kentucky Speedway this weekend for The Click It or Ticket Buckle-Up Kentucky 150.

“I’m looking forward to returning to Kentucky Speedway. We were fastest in open testing a week and a half ago and with the string of top-five finishes we have going on, it’s the exact momentum our team is looking for. We’ll continue that forward drive throughout the weekend as we head back to the mile and a half track,” stated Coulter.

Coulter topped the speed charts again in ARCA RE/MAX Series open testing July 6 at Kentucky Speedway, in both the morning and afternoon sessions. The Miami Springs, Florida native circled the 1.5-mile superspeedway in 30.531 seconds for an average speed of 176.869 mph.

An outstanding performance is exactly what he delivered as he earned his career first Menards Pole Award Presented by Ansell, and captured his second consecutive podium finish in Saturday’s tenth ARCA RE/MAX race this season, finishing third.

Bringing back the same No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevrolet the team practiced with during the series’ open test, Coulter and his Coulter Motorsports team, led by veteran NASCAR crew chief Harold Holly, had high hopes for the Prairie Meadows 200.

Coulter, who was second quickest during the hour and a half practice session Friday afternoon, was 15th in line out of 37 cars that were there to qualify Saturday. Following his qualifying lap, he waited patiently with his team while the remaining ARCA RE/MAX Series competitors took their turns around the Rusty Wallace-designed short track. Coulter earned his career first Menards Pole Award Presented by Ansell on Saturday evening, circling the .875-mile short track in 23.45 seconds for a speed of 134.328 mph. The pole came just one week after Coulter posted his career best ARCA RE/MAX Series race finish of second at Mansfield Motorsports.

“I was pretty nervous throughout that entire qualifying session,” said Coulter. “Brian Ickler was fast in practice and he was the last car to go out. I knew that if anyone was going to beat our time it was going to be either him or Justin Lofton. I’m happy I got my first pole here because this is a great racetrack. This is my third time here, but my first time racing at this track with the ARCA RE/MAX Series,” Coulter added.

At the start of the 200 lap event, Coulter outran the No. 77 of Parker Kligerman to lead the first 35 laps before scheduled pit stops. As the field went back to green flag racing on lap 38, Coulter found himself in the seventh position. Nonetheless, the 19-year-old wasted no time as he broke back into the top-five the very next lap.

Three additional cautions would take place before crew chief Harold Holly would have to make a beneficial decision to pit once more while under caution on lap 84 for fuel. Coulter returned to racing action on lap 87 in 11th position.

Coulter broke back into top-five racing action by passing the No. 31 of Austin Dillon on lap 116. Final pit stops came on lap 136 under caution; Coulter entered the pits in third and the hard-working crew members were able to put the No. 16 Chevrolet back on top of the leader board, beating the No. 32 of Matt Merrell and No. 77 of Kligerman off pit road.

On the restart, Coulter was able to pull away from Kligerman before his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation-Tempest Cycles Chevrolet started getting tight from the center off. Kligerman then passed Coulter the following lap, with 50 laps remaining.

As Coulter fought with the handling of his No. 16 Chevy Monte Carlo, the No. 31 of Dillon slipped by on lap 172. The caution flag would wave one final time on lap 187, Coulter had an excellent restart, but couldn’t quite get to Dillon or Kligerman in the closing laps. He took the checkered flag in third position.

“On the last pit stop we used our last set of tires and the car just tightened up a little bit,” said Coulter. “We tested here and we were fastest at the test. We were really fast in practice and we qualified on the pole, so needless to say this is one of my favorite racetracks that I’ve run on so far this year.”

Coulter led a total of 47 laps in the Prairie Meadows 200. His third place finish added to his top-five finishing streak, adding up to four consecutive top-fives and six top-ten finishes in ten ARCA RE/MAX Series events.

The next event for the ARCA RE/MAX Series will be the Click It or Ticket Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 Saturday night, July 18 in conjunction with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

The 19-year-old has previously competed at the .875-mile D-shaped oval, most recently in 2008, recording a fourth place finish.

Coulter, who was fastest in the recent Iowa Speedway test, is on a roll lately coming off three consecutive top-five finishes at Pocono Raceway, Michigan and Mansfield Motorsports Park, where he finished a career-best second.

The 19-year-old driver circled the .875-mile short track in 23.138 seconds, an average speed of 136.140 mph.

“It’s the same situation as Mansfield. This will be my third time here at Iowa, so I could spend more time on how the car works on the track rather than having to spend all my time learning the track, or both,” Coulter said.

“I’m really looking forward to going back to Iowa. I’m returning to familiar tracks, and my past experience at the track should definitely pay off,” Coulter added.

“Iowa Speedway is a fun racetrack to compete on. The layout is awesome and, with the level of competition in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, it will definitely make for a great race for sure,” Coulter stated on returning to the .875-mile D-shaped oval.

The first on-track activity for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is a practice session on Friday, July 10 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Following the hour and a half practice session is an autograph session at Prairie Meadows Racetrack/Casino from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, July 10 in support of the Prairie Meadows 200 at Iowa Speedway. Prairie Meadows Racetrack/Casino is located in Altoona, Iowa, right off of I-80 at exit 142.

The Prairie Meadows 200 at Iowa Speedway is scheduled to go off Saturday, July 11 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell precedes the race at 4:00 PM. The ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will join the ARCA RE/MAX Series for an ARCA double-header with the IMTA 50 scheduled to go at 6:00 p.m.

All on-track activity for the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will feature live streaming audio and video on the ARCA Racing Network at ARCAracing.com.

That is exactly what the 19-year-old delivered with a career-best second place finish in Saturday’s eighth ARCA RE/MAX Series race of the season.

“Harold [Holly, crew chief] and the guys are awesome,” said Coulter. “The pit strategy we used played a major role in track position. It was like Harold knew what was going to happen in front of us before it happened.”

In practice Coulter was able to steer his No. 16 Monte Carlo SS to the seventh fastest time of 16.666 seconds for a speed of 108.004 miles per hour. As Coulter took to the half-mile oval for Menards Qualifying presented by Ansell, he posted a time of 16.661 seconds or 108.037 miles per hour, which put the Miami Springs, Florida native eighth on the starting grid.

At the start of the Tim Richmond Memorial 200, Coulter wasted no time advancing his position on the racetrack. When the caution flag flew on lap 10, he had already locked himself into the sixth position.

On the restart, Coulter began powering towards the front before the caution flag flew once again on laps 27 and 45. Coulter and Holly would see eye to eye on an early pit strategy, and on lap 47 he brought his No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation/Tempest Cycles machine down pit road for tires, fuel, and removed tape from the nose to avert an overheating issue.

As the field resumed to racing action on lap 54, Coulter found himself charging to the front from 19th position. As leaders came down pit road for scheduled pit stops, Coulter stayed out and advanced to fifth position as the restart came on lap 72. From that moment on, Coulter would stay in the top-five for the remainder of the 200 lap event.

In the closing laps, Coulter battled the No. 77 of Parker Kligerman for the lead as the two broke away from the remainder of the field. The caution flag would wave one final time, three laps from the finish. This caution would extend the race to 202 laps, and a green, white, checker dash to the finish. Coulter had an excellent restart, but couldn’t quite get to Kligerman in the closing laps as he brought home a career-best second.

“We had a real good car tonight and I had so much fun,” stated Coulter. “I had a pretty good idea of where the line moved around the track from racing here in the previous years. I would definitely say the past racing experience paid off.”

“I started getting tight there in the closing laps, and Kligerman started getting good runs off the corner. No matter what we had an awesome car and the level of competition in this series is incredible. I look forward to the upcoming tests and returning to Iowa in a couple of weeks,” Coulter added.

Coulter’s performance came after posting a pair of top-five finishes at Pocono (fourth) and Michigan (fifth).
Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is a stop in Newton, Iowa for the running of the Prairie Meadows 200 at the Rusty Wallace-designed Iowa Speedway on Saturday, July 11. Coulter has previously competed at Iowa in the USAR Pro Cup Series in 2007 and 2008. The Huntersville, North Carolina based team will participate in the open ARCA RE/MAX Series test at the .875 paved oval on Tuesday, June 30 in preparation for Coulter’s third start at the track, his first in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
