(November 22, 2011) — Miguel Paludo hoped to end the 2011 season with his first career Truck Series win. Rain delayed the first and only practice session for the Truck Series and cancelled qualifying leaving NASCAR to set the starting line-up based on the rule book and practice times. Paludo started the 134-lap race from the 19th position. The first caution flag waved on lap three and Paludo reported the truck was good. The team chose to leave Paludo on the track as it was too early to come down pit road. On lap 15, Paludo reported that the truck was getting too tight from the middle of the corner off.

Miguel Paludo

NASCAR threw a competition caution on lap 20, due to the fact that teams had only had limited practice time and were racing on a green race track due to the large amount of rain the track had experienced throughout the course of the afternoon. Under the caution period, Paludo brought the No. 7 Duroline Brakes and Components Toyota Tundra down pit road for four tires, fuel and an air-pressure adjustment. Paludo restarted from the 19th position on lap 23. The field only completed six green flag laps before the third caution of the day flew on lap 29 for a spin on the front stretch.

Under the caution Paludo reported to the team that he had a problem. Paludo’s spotter and Red Horse Racing Director of Competition, Terry Cook, saw the truck was leaving a trail of something. Smoke from the tailpipes indicated that the No. 7 Toyota Tundra had an internal issue. Paludo took the truck to the garage area where an internal mechanical issue was discovered. The damage was determined to be terminal and Paludo retired from the race early, relegating him to a 32nd-place finish in the final race of 2011.

(November 21, 2011) — The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams headed for sunny Florida for the final race of the 2011 season. Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Tire Kingdom/Service Central Toyota Tundra experienced rain off and on during the duration of the day leading up to the last race of the year. The first and only practice session for the Truck Series was delayed by rain-fall earlier in the day, but was completed. Qualifying for the Truck Series was cancelled and the starting line-up was set based upon the NASCAR rule book and the trucks lined up based off their quickest practice speed.

Peters was unable to make a mock qualifying run in practice, which would have given him a faster speed, so he started deep in the field from the 22nd position. The first caution of the evening waved on lap three. Peters reported to the team the truck was a little too free, but they chose to leave the No. 17 Tire Kingdom/Service Central Toyota Tundra on track as it was too early to give up track position. Peters continued to fight a loose-handling race track until the competition caution waved on lap 20.

Under the caution period, Peters brought the No. 17 Tundra to pit road for four tires, fuel and an air-pressure adjustment. A quick stop by the No. 17 team returned Peters to the track in the 17th position for the restart on lap 23. Six laps later the caution was displayed again for a spin on the front stretch. As the caution was displayed, Peters’ Red Horse Racing teammate, Miguel Paludo, experienced a mechanical issue and retired from the race early due to an internal issue.

Timothy Peters

Peters radioed to the team to inquire about Paludo’s issue and to tell the team he was still a little too loose. The team did not pit under the caution and took the green flag on lap 34 from the 19th position. Peters began to make forward progress scored in the 16th position on lap 68. On lap 72, Peters hit pit road for his second scheduled pit stop of the day. Peters took on four tires, fuel and an air-pressure adjustment. As the stops cycled through, Peters was running lap times faster than the leaders. Peters was running in the 15th position when the caution waved again on lap 96. For the first time in the 134-lap event, Peters reported to the team that the truck was a little too snug. The team brought the No. 17 truck down pit road for four tires, fuel and a final air pressure adjustment.

A quick stop by the Tire Kingdom/Service Central team placed Peters back on track in the 11th position for the restart on lap 101. The adjustments the team made under the final pit stop were just what Peters needed. Within 10 laps the No. 17 Toyota Tundra took over the eighth position. The caution waved on lap 117 for rain, as a storm blew over Homestead-Miami Speedway. The down-pour resulted in NASCAR calling the event official with 17 laps remaining.

Peters finished eighth and recorded his 12th top-10 finish of 2011, clinching his career best Truck Series point standings finish of fifth, only 56 points out of the lead position. In 2011, Peters recorded one win at Lucas Oil Raceway in July, seven top-five and 12 top-10 finishes in route to his fifth-place point’s finish.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 25 of 25

Homestead-Miami Speedway

ACHIEVING GOALS: In 2010, Miguel Paludo made his second start for Red Horse Racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Competing full-time in 2011, Paludo has earned three top-five finishes, seven top-10 finishes and has paced the field for 19 laps. The driver still has one more goal to accomplish in 2011, finishing in the top-15 in the driver point standings. After some bad luck late in the season Paludo finds himself 17th in points, but only nine points away from a top-15 finish.

SECOND TIME AROUND: Last season Paludo earned his first top-10 finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway finishing ninth in the season finale. Paludo completed each of the 134 laps in the event, while preparing for his first full season in the Truck Series in 2011.

RUNNING: This past weekend, while the Truck Series enjoyed a rare off weekend, Paludo competed in his first half-marathon. Paludo competed in the Thunder Road Marathon in Charlotte, North Carolina with pit crew coach Adam Merrell and with Amy Cook, wife of spotter and Red Horse Racing Director of Competition Terry Cook. When he is not on the track, Paludo spends his time staying in shape, mainly running. This is the first half-marathon Paludo plans to compete in as he trains to compete in the New York City Marathon in 2012.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 7 team will unload chassis No. 132. This truck last saw on-track action at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where Paludo earned a 10th-place finish. This chassis has competed only one other time in 2011, where Paludo piloted the truck to a fourth-place finish at Lucas Oil Raceway in July.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Texas Motor Speedway, Paludo made a late-race surge to finish ninth earning his seventh top-10 finish of 2011. Paludo was the highest Toyota finisher in the 147-lap event. With the run Paludo swept top-10 finishes at Texas Motor Speedway in 2011 earning an eighth-place finish at the 1.5-mile track in the Lone Star state in June.

Homestead-Miami Speedway has been a great track for you in the past. What do you like about the track?

“What I like most about Homestead-Miami Speedway, is that you can run and be fast either from the bottom or the top. Last year I learned a lot and I’m looking forward the last race with the rookie stripes.”

What are your plans for the off-season? Will you be traveling home to Brazil?

“My plans are to go to Brazil, and right now it is summer there. So I want to enjoy family and friends there and get ready for 2012 season.”

WORTH, TX. (November 5, 2011) — Miguel Paludo loves Texas Motor Speedway. The rookie of the year contender already recorded a top-10 finish in the spring event and desired nothing less than a repeat performance after a recent rash of bad luck. Paludo started in the 17th position and worked his way into the top-10. A late race restart allowed Paludo to gain one additional position ending the race as the top Toyota, finishing ninth.

“It was a good race,” Paludo said after the event. “It was good to get a top-10 finish; it was good for the guys and good for me as well. I’m still trying to finish in the top-15 in the point standings so we need runs like this. We fought a loose truck during the race. We made adjustments, got free, got good in the middle, so next time we need to be a little bit tighter, but overall it was a good run for us.”

Paludo began the WinStar World Casino 350K from the 17th starting position. The No. 7 truck had begun to make forward progress when the first caution of the night waved on lap 13. Paludo gave up the 16th position to come to pit road for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. The No. 7 truck was scored in the 19th position for the restart on lap 20. Before the trucks were able to come up to full speed the caution was displayed again for a competitor who experienced a blown engine. The team had been on pit road only moments earlier and decided to remain on the track.

As the field took the green-flag, Paludo fought to gain positions. He settled into the 16th position reporting to the team that the truck was too free on entry and he had to lift going into the corners. The caution was displayed once again on lap 31. The team chose to bring Paludo down pit road for fuel only and a wedge adjustment. The strategy gained Paludo several positions on the track, moving him into the seventh spot for the restart on lap 37. Paludo remained too free, slipping back to the 15th position. The fourth caution of the event flew on lap 55. The No. 7 team came down pit lane for four tires, fuel and another chassis adjustment.

Many of the leaders chose to take on fuel only or two tires under the caution period, relegating Paludo to restart in the 14th position. The changes made on pit road helped the handling of the No. 7 truck significantly. Paludo was scored in the seventh position on lap 66. Paludo did his best to maintain his top-10 running position but continued to fight a loose-handling truck, settling back into the 13th spot on the long green-flag run. As the race neared green-flag pit stops, the caution flew once more on lap 97.

Miguel Paludo

Paludo brought the No. 7 machine down pit road for the final time of the 147-lap event. The team took on four fresh tires, added fuel and made a final chassis adjustment. A quick stop by the team returned Paludo to the track in the ninth position for the restart on lap 103. As the laps wound down, Paludo was able to hold on racing hard to remain in the top-10. With only six laps remaining in the event, the caution was displayed for the final time as another competitor became victim to a failed engine.

The No. 7 team was scored in the 12th position when the caution waved. Under the caution period, a few of the leaders began to run out of fuel, moving Paludo into the eighth position for the green-white-checkered restart. Paludo fought hard and was able to come home with his second top-10 finish at Texas Motor Speedway in 2011, coming home ninth and recording top honors at the highest finishing Toyota Tundra driver.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action in two weeks on Friday, November 18, 2011, at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Ford 200, which can be viewed live on SPEED at 8:00 p.m., ET.

WORTH, TX. (November 5, 2011) — Cold winds blew on a clear Texas night as the next to last Truck Series race of 2011 went green. Timothy Peters and the No. 17 NTB/Service Central Toyota Tundra team started in the 15th position. Peters quickly made his way into the top 10, running as high as second, before late in the race the driver of the No. 17 felt the truck was beginning to experience mechanical issues. Trying to nurse the truck home to collect his 12th top-10 finish of 2011, a late-race caution forced a green-white-checkered finish where Peters’ mechanical issues caused him to fall from fifth on the final restart to take the checkered flag in the 11th position.

“We had a great race going until the final lap,” said Peters after climbing from the No. 17 NTB/Service Central Toyota Tundra. “I hate that caution that came out there at the end to set up the green-white-checkered finish. I knew something was a little off late in the race. It seems like we had some sort of mechanical issue, but we will have to take the truck back to the shop to figure out exactly what happened. Everybody did a great job today especially on pit road. The National Tire and Battery Service Central Toyota Tundra was great all night long – we just were not able to bring it home where it belonged there at the end. We have a week off and we will take this baby (the truck) back to the shop and get it ready to go to Homestead and Lord willing, get on the stage.”

Peters started the WinStar World Casino 350K from the 15th position, and by the first caution on lap 13, Peters had moved into the top 10 scored in the ninth position. The team decided to come to pit road for right-side tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Peters returned to the track in the 10th position for the restart on lap 20. The caution flew immediately when a truck experienced an engine failure on the restart. The team chose to stay out as they were just on pit road moments earlier. Peters continued to make forward progress moving past trucks one by one. The caution was displayed once again on lap 32. The team chose to come down pit road for fuel only and another chassis adjustment.

Peters restarted in the fifth position on lap 37. Getting a great restart, the driver of the No. 17 NTB/Service Central Toyota Tundra quickly moved past each of the leaders, settling into the second position. Peters maintained second until the caution was displayed for an accident in turn four on lap 55. Peters reported to the team that he was too loose in the corners on both ends. Crew chief Butch Hylton called for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment.

Timothy Peters

Many of the leaders were on a different pit strategy; some staying out, some taking two tires, some fuel only. After the round of pit stops, Peters returned to the track scored in the 10th position. As the green flag run ticked off laps, Peters continued to work his way back toward the front of the field taking over the sixth position on lap 76. Peters continued to run in the top 10 as the laps wound down, but his truck slowly began to lose the handle as the No. 17 machine had become too tight. The caution waved again on lap 97. The No. 17 team readied on pit wall for the final pit stop of the night. The team changed four tires, added fuel and made another chassis adjustment. Peters was scored in the eighth position for the restart on lap 103.

Maintaining his top-10 running position, Peters communicated to the team on lap 115 that the truck was really good and he felt that the longer the green-flag period lasted, the trucks in front of him would begin to fade. He felt confident his truck was better than many of his competitors and a few laps later, he began to prove it passing trucks one by one.

On lap 124, Peters radioed to the team that he felt like something was going wrong mechanically with the No. 17 truck. The team was powerless in the moment but knew that the driver of the No. 17 could hold on to a top-10 finish if the race went green until the end as he continued to maintain fast lap times. Scored in the eighth position, Peters did not want to see the caution when it waved on lap 141, sending the WinStar World Casino 350K into overtime. The race restarted on lap 146 with Peters scored in the fifth position, as some of the leaders had run out of fuel under caution. Peters took the restart and tried to hold on, but something broke mechanically as smoke billowed from underneath the No. 17 machine and he took the checkered flag in the 11th position. Peters maintains fifth spot in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standings, 58 markers behind the leader heading into the final race of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The Truck Series returns to action in two weeks on Friday, November 18, 2011, at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Ford 200 which can be viewed live on SPEED at 8:00 p.m., ET.

No. 17 NTB / Service Central Toyota Tundra

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 24 of 25

Texas Motor Speedway

BEST YET: As the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rolls to a halt, Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Toyota Tundra team are proud of what they have accomplished thus far. With one win, seven top-five and 11 top-10 finishes, the No. 17 team can be proud that statistically this has been the best year yet. Peters has earned more top-five finishes this season than in his two previous years at Red Horse Racing. He is also able to continue his streak of winning, earning wins in each of his three seasons at Red Horse Racing. Peters who currently sits fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings has the ability to record his highest championship points finish to date if he remains fifth or moves up in the standings. Despite some challenges, the team has persevered and is on track to earn their career best finish to date in 2011.

DID YOU KNOW? Peters has completed over 1,000 green flag passes this season? As of last weekend at Martinsville Speedway, the driver of the No. 17 Toyota Tundra has made 1,004 passes under green-flag conditions.

CONSISTENT TO THE END: Since joining Red Horse Racing in 2009, Peters has completed every lap he has entered at Texas Motor Speedway. Peters earned his first and only top-10 finish in 2010, completing the event in the seventh position.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 17 team will unload chassis No. 093 this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. Peters most recently piloted this truck to a third-place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in October.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Martinsville Speedway, Peters drove the No. 17 Toyota Tundra to an eighth-place finish. The run marked his sixth Truck Series top-10 finish at the paper-clipped shape track.

What are your thoughts heading into this weekend in Texas?

“I’m really optimistic about our run this weekend in Texas. We really struggled here in the spring, but I was very encouraged by our run a few weeks ago in Las Vegas. Butch and the team have really worked hard on our 1.5-mile track set-up package. We are planning to run a similar set-up to what we had in Vegas. I am excited about the race and would really like to end the 2011 season with a trip to victory lane.”

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 24 of 25

Texas Motor Speedway

WINDING DOWN: With only two races left in the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) is a welcome site for Miguel Paludo and the No. 7 Duroline Brakes and Components Toyota Tundra team. Despite a rough few weeks, Paludo and the team are ready to come back and taste the sweet success they found at TMS in the spring. Only five month ago, Paludo earned his first top-10 finish at the 1.5-mile track racing his way from a 22nd-place starting position to an eighth-place finishing position.

LAP LEADER: Paludo has led laps at four different track thus far in 2011. Paludo paced the field for the first time in his NASCAR Truck Series career at Martinsville Speedway in the spring, then followed that by leading a lap at Kansas Speedway in June. Then the Red Horse Racing driver led 10 laps at Texas Motor Speedway on his way to earning an eighth-place finish and followed up that performance by leading three laps to a Red Horse Racing two-three finish, where Paludo currenlty owns his career-best Truck Series finish of third at Michigan International Speedway.

LUCKY NUMBER 13: Thus far in 2011, Paludo has recored 13 of the fastest laps ran at various tracks, these were 13 laps where Paludo was faster than any other truck on the race track.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 7 team will unload chassis No. 002. This truck last saw on-track action at Bristol Motor Speedway, where Paludo experienced mechanical issues and was forced to retire from the event early.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Martinsville Speedway, Paludo earned a 16th-place finish. Passing was very difficult at the 0.526-mile short track. Paludo made his way up to the ninth position before a late-race pit stop for fuel mired him back in the field. Paludo was unable to make his way back into the top-10 before the checkered flag flew.

You had a really strong run at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this year. What is it you like about Texas?

It’s a fast track, with a lot of banking and you really feel the speed. I always run well there and I hope this time is no different.

When you were in high school you came to the United States from Brazil to study abroad and live in Texas. What was your first impression of the state? Do you keep in touch with the family you stayed with during that time?

The accent is amazing! It was really hard to understand everybody at first, but once I got use to it, it helped me a lot. I lived in a small city about two hours away from Dallas and had a lot of fun. I still talk to my “American family”; actually my youngest “brother” at that time is already a father!

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (October 31, 2011) — Rain plagued on-track activities throughout the weekend at Martinsville Speedway. To a rookie of the year contender such as Miguel Paludo this might have been a hindrance not to get track time, but Paludo already scored a 12th-place finish at the famous paper-clip shaped speedway in the spring and competed in a K&N East Race at Martinsville in 2010.

Paludo used his experience to get by with only 30 minutes of practice time and qualified in the 11th starting position (one of only 14 drivers to break the 19 second bracket during the qualifying session) for the 200-lap contest at Martinsville Speedway the 23rd race of the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.

As Paludo took the green, he immediately reported to the team that he was too loose on throttle. Paludo rode in the 11th position for the first 10 circuits but was unable to protect the bottom lane as his truck drifted to the high side. Trying to find a hole, Paludo and another competitor made contact. Paludo was able to save the No. 7 Stemco / Duroline Toyota Tundra from touching the outside wall but lost several positions trying to get back to the low lane. The loss of time left Paludo in jeopardy of losing a lap to the leaders, which he indeed did. Paludo battled to earn the “lucky dog” position but fell one position shy when the first caution of the day waved on lap 38.

Paludo and the team did come to pit road under the first caution period to take on four tires, fuel and make a chassis adjustment. Paludo restarted from the 28th position on lap 43. Another quick caution on lap 49 allowed Paludo to return to the lead lap. The No. 7 team once again brought their driver to pit road for some additional chassis adjustments on lap 51. As the recipient of the “lucky dog” award Paludo had to start at the tail-end of the longest line for the restart on lap 58. The changes made on pit road significantly improved the handling of the No. 7 Tundra. Paludo quickly made forward progress. In less than 10 laps, Paludo had entered back into the top-20. Under the third caution period of the day on lap 87, the team brought Paludo down pit road for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Paludo restarted in the 16th position. The outside lane was not the place to be, but Paludo quickly found a hole and settled back in passing trucks one by one. By the half-way point on lap 100, Paludo was scored in the 17th position.

With the leaders on different pit strategies, Paludo continued to increase his position with every caution period. By lap 110, Paludo was scored in the ninth position. He radioed to the team that several trucks in front of him were holding him up but he wanted to save his equipment to make his move toward the end of the event.

Under the caution period on lap 133, the No. 7 team came down pit road for their final pit stop of the day. The team took on four tires and fuel. Many of the leaders came to pit road under the caution period, but some chose to remain on the track. Paludo restarted from the 15th position. Paludo maintained the 15th position until the eighth caution flew on lap 172. Paludo relayed to the team how hard it was to pass and continued to try and move forward as the laps dwindled down in the 200-lap contest. Paludo continued to fight to the end of the event, but was unable to gain track position and took the checkered flag in the 16th position.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action next week on Friday, November 4, 2011, at Texas Motor Speedway for the WinStar World Casino 350K, which can be viewed, live on SPEED at 8:00 p.m., ET.

(October 31, 2011) — There is no place like home and Danville, Virginia resident Timothy Peters felt relaxed and comfortable as he climbed behind the wheel of the No. 17 GearWrench / Strutmasters Toyota Tundra for the start of the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. The weekend was plagued by torrential rain-fall which cancelled the final practice session for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The trucks were able to hit the track on Friday for a brief practice session and returned Saturday morning for qualifying which was slightly delayed. Peters started from the ninth position and battled a loose-handling truck throughout the 200-lap contest to finish in the eighth position. The run marked Peters’ sixth top-10 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series finish at Martinsville.

“Our GearWrench/Strutmasters Toyota Tundra is pretty used up,” said Peters after surveying his Tundra following the race. “But that is what I love about Martinsville. The racing is tough and this is the type of racing these trucks were designed for. We fought hard all day and were able to get the eighth position on the final lap. It was a good day for the No. 17 team; racing at Martinsville is so much fun.”

Timothy Peters and the No. 17 GearWrench / Strutmasters Toyota Tundra started from the ninth position. As soon as the green flag dropped, the beating and banging began. Peters was able to gain a few positions early – settling into the seventh position in the bottom line where most of the trucks were able to turn their fastest laps. The first caution of the day waved on lap 38. The No. 17 team chose to come to pit road for four tires, fuel and a track-bar adjustment.

Timothy Peters

Peters returned to the track in the 11th position for the restart. Peters had an advantage on the competition by restarting in the low lane and was able to move up to the sixth position when the second caution of the day flew on lap 49. The No. 17 team chose to remain on the track as they had a plan to make the 200-lap event a two pit stop race. Peters had to start in the outside lane but was able to get to the low side early and gain several positions settling into the third spot on lap 60. However, the handling of the No. 17 truck began to fade. Peters struggled to keep the truck on the bottom of the track and lost several positions fighting a loose-handling truck. The caution flew for the third time on lap 86. Peters brought the No. 17 truck to the attention of the team for four tires, fuel and a spring rubber adjustment. Peters returned to the track in the 10th position for the restart on lap 93.

By the half-way point, Peters was running in the ninth position. Peters continued to muscle his way back up through the field. The truck was not perfect, but Peters was happy with the changes made on pit road. Many of the leaders had different pit strategies but the No. 17 team had completed their scheduled work on pit road for the day. The fourth caution flew on lap 104. Peters remained on the track. During the restart, a truck in front of the No. 17 stopped in the middle of the corner; Peters, unable to get on the brakes in time, bumped the troubled truck. The contact resulted in the left-front fender being bent into the tire, causing a tire rub. The team decided that the damage was not too bad but several laps later the tire began to smoke heavily.

Under the next caution period Peters was forced to pit road to fix the damaged fender. Fortunately for the No. 17 team, many of the leaders had to come to pit road under the same caution period. Peters was able to salvage some track position – taking the restart on lap 138 from the 12th position. Passing at any track is difficult, but at Martinsville Speedway it is nearly impossible. Peters struggled to get the No. 17 Tundra to the inside lane on the restart and dropped to the 14th position before finally getting in line. As the laps wound down in the 200-lap event, Peters muscled his way back toward the front of the field.

A rash of cautions late in the event allowed Peters to make his way back into the top-10. Peters took the final restart on lap 188 from the 10th position. The driver of the No. 17 Toyota Tundra rooted and gouged his way to an eighth-place finish. Peters maintains fifth spot in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standings, 48 markers behind the leader.

The Truck Series returns to action next week on Friday, November 4, 2011, at Texas Motor Speedway for the WinStar World Casino 350K which can be viewed live on SPEED at 8:00 p.m., ET.

No. 7 Stemco / Duroline Toyota Tundra

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 23 of 25

Martinsville Speedway

LEADER OF THE PACK: Six short months ago, Miguel Paludo and the No. 7 team were starting their fourth race together as a team at Martinsville Speedway. During that event Paludo led his first lap of his Truck Series career. Paludo actually led five laps that day and went on to earn a 12th-place finish at the paperclip-shaped track. Fast forward six months and Paludo has now led a total of 19 laps thus far this season and earned his career best finish of third in June at Michigan International Speedway. After a few tough weeks, Paludo and the team hope that Martinsville Speedway will be the place to turn their luck around and lead even more laps.

SHORT-TRACK SUCCESS: Despite a 31st-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway for a mechanical failure, Paludo has been quite successful on tracks less than one-mile in length in 2011. Paludo scored a 12th-place finish followed by a 15th-place and a solid fourth-place run at Lucas Oil Raceway in July.

LOOP DATA STATISTICS: According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics Paludo has spent 49.2 percent of his laps completed thus far this season running in the top-15. Despite some bad luck throughout 2011, the 28-year old Rookie of the Year contender has consistently been running in the top-15.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 7 team will unload chassis No. 141. This truck most recently competed at Iowa Speedway where Paludo earned a 15th-place finish. This is also the same chassis that Paludo piloted earlier this season at Martinsville Speedway when he led five laps and earned a 12th-place finish.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Talladega Superspeedway, Paludo was running solidly in the top-10 when he got caught in the middle line and was shuffled toward the back of the pack. The team chose to come down pit road for fuel returning Paludo to the track in the 16th-position for the restart with 30 laps remaining in the event. On the restart, NASCAR penalized the No. 7 truck for changing lanes prior to the start finish line. Paludo was forced to come to pit road to serve a pass through penalty, ultimately falling one lap down to the leaders. With only a few laps remaining Paludo was able to get back on the lead lap but did not have time to make a surge back up front, finishing in the 18th position.

Miguel Paludo

Miguel Paludo Talks about Martinsville Speedway:

Do you enjoy short-track racing over the bigger tracks?

Actually, I love all short racing and bigger tracks. I not only made my first Truck Series start at Martinsville earlier this year, but also raced in the K&N East series here and I love the track. We had a good run early this year and I’m excited to return to the track.

Since this is one of the tracks you have already been to once this season, what do you expect the racing to be like the second time around?

It’s hard to predict something, because, anything can happen. I hope to have a good run and a great finish.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 23 of 25

Martinsville Speedway

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN: Timothy Peters, a Danville, Virginia native will be traveling home this weekend. Peters lives approximately 15 minutes away from the entrance of Martinsville Speedway. The 31-year old Red Horse Racing driver has been watching races at the historic “paperclip” since he was a child. In 2005, Peters won the Bailey’s 300 Late Model race at Martinsville. That day he took home a grandfather clock and $25,000 prize. In 2009, only months after joining Red Horse Racing, Peters earned his first career Truck Series victory at his home track, Martinsville Speedway. Since then, Peters has compiled two more wins at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in 2010 and earlier this season at Lucas (Ind.) Oil Raceway.

LAP LEADERS: Peters ranks fourth among active drivers at Martinsville Speedway in laps led. Peters has led 169 laps at the track.

TESTING 1, 2, 3… It has been a full week of racing for Peters. After returning from Talladega Superspeedway, he traveled to Rockingham Speedway on Monday for a day long test session, followed by a trip to the Motor Mile on Wednesday for additional testing.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 17 team will unload chassis No. 137 this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Peters most recently piloted this truck to a ninth-place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in September. This is also the same truck that Peters drove to a win at Lucas Oil Raceway earlier this season and a fifth-place finish at Martinsville Speedway in the spring. Chassis No. 137 has a 5.0 average finishing position in 2011.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Talladega Superspeedway, Peters was able to avoid several on-track incidents to set up the No. 17 team for a solid top-10 finish. However, on the final restart with only two laps remaining the No. 17 truck acted as though it had run out of fuel going into turn one. Peters immediately dropped out of the draft onto the apron. A few hundred feet later, the fuel picked back up and allowed Peters to finish the event. The issue relegated the team to a 23rd-place finish.

Timothy Peters

Timothy Peters Talks about Martinsville Speedway:

How good does it feel to be racing at home this weekend?

“It is always good to be home. I love racing at Martinsville. The track has so many good memories for me getting my first Truck Series victory there. It is nice when you can sleep in your own bed and then head to the track. I can’t wait to race at Martinsville this weekend, we had a good truck in the spring, but got caught up in a few on-track incidents, but managed to survive and finish fifth. I hope this race is a little less eventful for us but I am really excited to be coming back to a short-track this weekend and competing at Martinsville.”

After last week’s run at Talladega, how critical do you think this weekend is to deciding the championship?

I think a strong run in Martinsville is going to play a role in the championship hunt. This race may even be the deciding factor. We definitely need to run strong from here on out to get ourselves back in contention. Last weekend’s finish at Talladega was not what we needed, but throughout the season it has been shown that no matter how big of a lead you have it can dwindle with just one race. I would love for Martinsville to play a factor in closing the gap in the championship battle and help to get the No. 17 team back in the hunt for the title, but we will just have to see how everything plays out.

No. 7 Stop Diabetes Toyota Tundra

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 22 of 25

Talladega Superspeedway

‘BAMA BOUND: Miguel Paludo will make his way to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway this weekend. Paludo will make his first laps around the 2.66-mile Superspeedway this weekend, as he tries to improve on his last restrictor-plate finish of fourth in the season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Paludo has two fourth-place finishes at Daytona and Lucas Oil Raceway, but his career-best Truck Series finish came in August at Michigan International Speedway where he finished third.

SOMBRERO DOMINANCE: The Toyota emblem is often referred to as a “sombrero”, this logo has crossed the finish line first, most often at Talladega. Toyota drivers have been dominating at the track since the series made the decision to race at the historic 2.66-mile track in 2006. Toyota has been in victory lane four times in the last five races giving them a winning percentage of 80.

EYE IN THE SKY: One of the most important aspects for a rookie driver at Talladega Superspeedway is to have an experienced spotter. Paludo will listen to veteran Truck Series driver Terry Cook as he makes his first laps around Talladega Superspeedway. The six-time Truck Series winner will help Paludo to navigate through traffic and hopefully to victory lane at day’s end. Cook will be perched high atop the 2.66-mile track some 40 feet plus in the air so he will have the best view of the track.

FIRST TIMER: The newest addition to the Paludo family, Oliver, Miguel and Patricia’s son will make his first appearance at a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.

NEW COLORS: This weekend Paludo will carry new colors as the 28-year old driver of the No. 7 Toyota Tundra promotes health, wellness and the fight to find a cure for diabetes. Paludo, who suffers from Type I diabetes, continues to be an advocate for research and education for children and adults who struggle with the disease.

“My diabetes does not stop me from living my dream as a racecar driver. I want to be someone that children and adults can look up to and realize that even though you have diabetes your life does not have to stop. You just have to be more careful what you eat and drink, be sure to get plenty of rest and exercise daily. Eventually diabetes will become part of your daily routine. I hope by having the Stop Diabetes colors on the truck this weekend, that we can continue to raise awareness for diabetes and hopefully one day find a cure.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 7 team will unload chassis No. 140. The last time this truck was on the track was last season at Daytona International Speedway with Timothy Peters behind the wheel. The No. 7 team will unload last year’s Daytona race winning vehicle for Paludo to weave through the air at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Paludo earned a 27th-place finish after being caught up in an on-track incident on lap 31 of the 146-lap event. The No. 7 Toyota Tundra sustained heavy front-end damage and was unable to complete the event.

What are your thoughts going back to a superspeedway?

“I’m really excited to go back to a superspeedway. Daytona was the first race of the season, first superspeedway and I loved it. We had a shot to win there and I’m sure that Talladega will be the same way.”

No. 17 NTB / Service Central Toyota Tundra

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 22 of 25

Talladega Superspeedway

100 PERCENT: Timothy Peters has competed in two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Peters has been able to complete 100 percent of the 193 laps he has entered at the 2.66-mile Superspeedway.

SUPERB AVERAGE: Peters has competed in six restrictor plate races in his young Truck Series career. Over the six races at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway Peters has an average finish of eighth. He has completed every lap he has run at both Speedways.

THE CLOSER: In the last 10 percent of the past two races at Talladega Superspeedway Peters has gained an average of five running positions before the checkered flag falls.

TOP FOUR: Peters has an average finish better than 10th at four tracks that are currently on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule. Two are each of the restrictor plate tracks that the Truck Series currently visits, Daytona International Speedway where he holds an average finish of 7.5 and this weekend’s venue at Talladega Superspeedway with an average finishing position of 9.0. The other two tracks are Pocono (Pa.) Raceway where Peters over two races has an average finish of 9.0 and Darlington (S.C.) Raceway where the 31-year-old Danville, Virginia resident holds an average finish of 4.0 at the track that has been dubbed “Too Tough to Tame.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 17 team will utilize chassis No.108 this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Peters piloted this same truck to an 11th-place finish earlier this season at Daytona International Speedway.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Peters earned his career-best finish of third. The driver of the No. 17 led four laps and ran in the top-10 throughout the majority of the 146-lap event.

What do you enjoy most about restrictor-plate racing? Why do you think you have been so successful at Daytona and Talladega?

“I like the intensity of racing at Talladega and Daytona. We have always had really good trucks at both of those locations. I can’t pinpoint exactly why we run so well, I just try to bide my time and make the right move at the right time. Sometimes it works out for you sometimes it doesn’t. These races are always fun and exciting; you just hope that you are there at the end to battle for the win.”

After last weekend’s race the point’s battle has become a five man race. Do you still think you have good odds?

“Anything is possible at this point. I don’t think anyone thought that the race last weekend would be such a turning point, but the race this weekend at Talladega is anyone’s game as is the race in Martinsville. I feel confident in this No. 17 team and I know we will have good equipment. What is meant to be will be and we hope that when this thing is all said and done we are holding the hardware in Miami.”
