(November 13, 2011) – Ryan Blaney started fourth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West (NKNPSW) race Saturday night at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR). He fell back to 11th in the first half of the 125-mile event and struggled with a tight-handling No. 11 Accell Construction / Heavy Duty / Ruston Transport Chevrolet. The crew made significant changes to the DB Racing car during the five-minute break, and Blaney quickly drove to the lead for 44 of the final 45 laps. He took the checkered flag for his first NASCAR victory in his third start.

Blaney, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Dave Blaney, started fourth in the Casino Arizona 125 and fell back to fifth by lap four. He radioed that the No. 11 Accell Construction/Heavy Duty/Ruston Transport Chevrolet was extremely tight through the center of the corner. By the third yellow flag on lap 38, Blaney held onto the fifth position, but continued to have issues with a tight racecar. Crew Chief Trent Owens reassured the 17-year-old driver that they would make big changes to the car during the team’s pit stop.

Blaney continued to struggle and fell back to 11th when a multi-car incident brought out the yellow flag on lap 65. At lap 67, NASCAR Officials called the five-minute break for teams to work on their cars. Blaney reiterated that the car was tight and chattering in the corner. Owens called for trackbar, wedge, stagger and air pressure adjustments.

The field went back to green flag racing on lap 67 with Blaney in the 11th position. Just one lap later, the NASCAR rookie drove into the ninth position, and by the next caution on lap 71, he sat in the seventh position. The young driver confirmed that the car was much better and really fast in the first few laps of a run. A four-car incident in turn one brought out the red flag on lap 78, and Blaney moved up to fourth.

The green flag was displayed on lap 80 with Blaney in the fourth position. He drove into third by turn one with the leaders racing side-by-side in front of him. The High Point, N.C., native drove deep into turn three and passed both cars on the inside to take the lead when the field logged the next lap. Blaney held the lead for the next 21 laps. Alex Bowman drove past the No. 11 Accell Construction/Heavy Duty/Ruston Transport Chevrolet during the lap-103 restart, but Blaney regained the lead the next lap.

Blaney extended his lead by 2.4 seconds and crossed the finish line for his first NASCAR win in just his third start. In his previous NASCAR starts, Blaney tallied an eighth- and 10th-place finish in NASCAR K&N Pro Series East races at Richmond International Raceway and Iowa Speedway, respectively.

“The first half of the race wasn’t very good for us,” explained Blaney. We were really tight, and we were lucky to stay in 11th. We came in and Trent made some amazing changes to the car. We darted right up to the lead there in 15 laps. After we got the lead, I knew we had them. We were riding around there and maintaining quick speed.

“It was a really exciting night,” the Casino Arizona 125 winner continued. “This is definitely the biggest win of my career so far. It is fun to coming to the West races. I always like to come to the K&N races because they teach me a lot, especially racing with Greg Pursley and Bowman. They are a lot of fun to race with. It is nice to run on NASCAR tracks and get a little experience. It was special to have most of my family was here, especially my dad, and we had a lot of people from Accell Construction and Heavy Duty, so that was really cool to be able to celebrate my first NASCAR win with them in victory lane.”

Blaney will compete for the point championship in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) November 26th at Concord Speedway in North Carolina. He is six points behind the point leader Jay Fogleman going into the final race of the season.

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

Welcome Ron Hornaday -Turner Motorsports and the No. 32 team welcome Ron Hornaday, Jr. as he pilots the Dollar General Chevy this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. A consistent force to be reckoned with and title contender in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), Hornaday is making his first NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start for Turner Motorsports. In his 183 race NNS career, which spans 13 seasons, Hornaday boasts four wins, 32 top-five and 70 top-10 finishes along with one pole award.

Hornaday at Phoenix International Raceway - While he has made yearly trips to the one-mile Phoenix track for NCWTS action, Hornaday hasn’t turned competitive NNS laps at the track since 2007. Ironically, that last start came in a Dollar General sponsored car for Kevin Harvick, Inc. Hornaday will make his 11th NNS start at the track and has notched three top-five and six top-10 finishes in 10 previous starts along with 103 laps led. He owns an average starting position of 16.5 with an average finish of 14.6.

It’s New to Me - Hornaday will make good use of the extra testing session NASCAR is giving NNS competitors this weekend due to the newly paved track, as this is his first stint in the ‘new’ Nationwide Series car. Hornaday’s last NNS start came in 2010 at Lucas Oil Raceway Park.

Dollar General Team Continues To Build Solid Stats - It has been a solid year for the No. 32 Dollar General team, it’s first year under the Turner Motorsports banner. Through 32 races this season, the Trent Owens-led team has amassed two wins, eight top-five and 24 top-10 finishes, split between three drivers. Turner Motorsports notched its first team win with the No. 32 team at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March with Mark Martin behind the wheel.

Fans Can Win Big with Dollar General – Dollar General, an Official Partner of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup™, is offering customers the chance to win more than 9,000 prizes including free gas for a year, a trip for two to Las Vegas for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week™ and $250,000. The “Race in to Win” sweepstakes officially launched August 28 and runs through November 12, 2011. When customers purchase qualifying items from DG, they are given a code on their receipt to enter online at dollargeneral.com. It is the first-ever national retail program around the Chase, NASCAR’s version of the playoffs.

This Week’s Impala - This weekend, Hornaday will pilot TMS-122 in the Wypall 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. This is the first time this car will see action since an eighth-place finish at Darlington Raceway earlier in the season.

Hornaday on making an NNS start at Phoenix for Turner Motorsports:

“I’m really excited to get behind the wheel of the Dollar General Chevy this weekend for Turner Motorsports in Phoenix. I want to thank DG and Mr. Turner for the opportunity, as well as Kevin and DeLana [Harvick] for allowing me to compete in the Nationwide race with Turner Motorsports. This will be the first time for me in one of these new cars and it should be fun to give it a go with Trent [Owens] and the No. 32 team. I know they’ll have their stuff ready to race at a track I enjoy going to.”

(October 4, 2011) - Turner Motorsports announced today that Brian Vickers will assume driving duties of the No. 32 Dollar General Chevy, beginning this weekend at Kansas Speedway. Vickers, the 2003 NASCAR Nationwide Series Champion, who has a long-standing relationship with the team, will also get behind the wheel for the Dollar General 300 Miles of Courage at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The driver for the remaining 2011 races will be announced at a later date.

“We are continuing to evaluate our racing program as we look to the 2012 season,” said team owner Steve Turner. “Brian Vickers is a proven winner at NASCAR’s highest level in addition to being a driver at Turner Motorsports over the last four seasons. He has worked with Trent Owens in the past which will allow us to immediately focus on the task at hand. We are confident Brian can help assess where we are, as a company currently, and the direction we are going as we build our programs for 2012 and beyond.”

Vickers previously competed in the Nationwide Series for Turner Motorsports on a part-time basis from 2007-2010. In 41 starts, Vickers compiled 15 top-five and 28 top-10 finishes along with three pole awards. Vickers has made four Nationwide Series starts at Kansas Speedway, notching one top-10 finish back in 2007 while driving the No. 10 entry for Turner Motorsports.

“I can’t thank everyone at Dollar General and Turner Motorsports enough for this opportunity,” said Vickers. “They have been so supportive of me both personally and professionally over the past few years, and it’s great to continue this relationship for a few more races. I am looking forward to driving this new Nationwide Series car with Trent and the guys behind me!”

The No. 32 team remains under the leadership of Trent Owens, the same crew chief Vickers worked with during the majority of his time at Turner Motorsports.

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

With Eight To Go, There’s Ground to Make Up - After a disappointing 32nd-place finish in Atlanta last weekend, Reed Sorenson and his Dollar General team know they have work to do in order to get back in contention in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) championship hunt. While he still occupies the third spot in the standings, Sorenson is 40 points out of the lead. While the total seems potentially insurmountable, teammate James Buescher overcame a 42-point deficit in five races to overtake the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points lead after the race at Atlanta.

The Dollar General Double - This weekend Turner Motorsports will field two Dollar General Chevys at Richmond International Raceway. Sorenson will pilot the flagship No. 32 and teammate Justin Allgaier will be in a second, No. 31 Dollar General Chevy. The two cars will differ only in number and roof number color.

Sorenson at Richmond – Sorenson will make his ninth start at the .75-mile Richmond International Raceway this weekend. In his eight previous starts, Sorenson owns two top-fives, five top-10s and four laps led. He has an average starting spot of 10.9 and an average finish of 14.0. In the spring race, Sorenson started 15th and finished 12th.

Looking to go Three-for-Three for $100K – This weekend’s race at Richmond International Raceway is the third of four in the Nationwide Series Dash 4 Cash program, where four NNS drivers compete for $100,000. In the first two races, Sorenson came away with the money and as a result, is the only driver eligible for the one million dollar award possible at the program’s conclusion at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Teeing Off for Literacy - When he gets home from Richmond, Sorenson will join crew chief Trent Owens in attending the 19th Annual Dollar General Literacy Foundation Golf Classic in Nashville, Tenn. Both avid golfers, Sorenson and Owens are looking forward to the opportunity. Dollar General believes learning to read, receiving a GED or learning the English language is an investment that opens doorways for personal, professional and economic growth which is why their commitment to literacy remains strong.

Fans Can Win Big with Dollar General – Dollar General, an Official Partner of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup™ is offering customers the chance to win more than 9,000 prizes including free gas for a year, a trip for two to Las Vegas for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion’s Week™ and $250,000. The “Race in to Win” sweepstakes officially launched Aug. 28 and runs through November 12, 2011. When customers purchase qualifying items from DG, they are given a code on their receipt to enter online at dollargeneral.com. It is the first-ever national retail program around the Chase, NASCAR’s version of the playoffs.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-126 in the Virginia 429 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway. This car was previously run by Sorenson at Iowa Speedway (sixth), New Hampshire Motor Speedway (15th) and was brand new at Dover International Speedway where he finished third.

“I really like going to Richmond as it’s a track I have done pretty well at and I just enjoy racing there. This Dollar General team understands the task we have at hand here and what we need to do to get back in contention for this championship. We just want to focus on playing up our strengths and minimizing the weaknesses. It’s also fun for us to be racing for the Nationwide Dash 4 Cash money again, although I understand the competition is going to be tight for it. It’s a really great program and we will definitely know where all the other guys are on the track all night. I think the Dollar General team is up to the challenge we know lies ahead and there are good things in store for us as we get closer and closer to the end of the season.”

September 2, 2011

No. 08 BRANDT / Realtree Chevrolet News and Notes

Turner Motorsports to run four trucks in Atlanta… Turner Motorsports will run a fourth entry in this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) event at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS). Ryan Newman will pilot the No. 08 BRANDT / Realtree Chevrolet Silverado honoring the life of former Turner Motorsports family member and Newman’s close friend, Beau Slocumb.

Remembering and honoring Beau… A native of Macon, Ga., about an hour south of AMS, Slocumb grew up racing. He began his career racing Legends cars and climbed the professional ladder through the late model ranks, eventually making his mark in the ARCA Racing Series, driving the No. 08, before hanging up his driving gloves to work at Turner Motorsports. This past spring, the 26-year-old lost his heroic battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Jessica, parents Burke “Buster” and Jeanne, brothers Seth and Daniel and sister Maggie.

Turner Motorsports, along with Newman, BRANDT and Realtree have pledged all profits and winnings from the event to be donated to Slocum’s widow.

Calling the shots… Trent Owens, who serves as crew chief on Turner Motorsports’ No. 32 Dollar General Impala in the Nationwide Series, will call the shots for Newman’s No. 08 at AMS. In 25 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) events this season (21 with Reed Sorenson/4 with Mark Martin), Owens has collected two wins (1 Martin/1 Sorenson), eight top-five and 18 top-10 finishes.

Proven ground… Newman knows his way around AMS. In his lone NCWTS start at the 1.54-mile track he went to victory lane. In three NNS starts he has collected one pole award and one top-10 finish. In his 18 Sprint Cup Series starts at the track he has amassed one top-five and six top-10 finishes along with capturing seven pole awards.

By the numbers: NCWTS… In three career NCWTS starts Newman has never finished outside the top-five. He has collected one win, three top-five finishes and one pole award.

This week’s Silverado… The No. 08 team will hit the track with chassis TMS-204. This is the same chassis Mark Martin raced at Michigan International Speedway and Pocono Raceway.

Great Clips 300… Turner Motorsports partner and the longest-running primary sponsor in the Nationwide Series, Great Clips Inc., will serve as title sponsor for this weekend’s NNS event at AMS. The second running of the Great Clips 300 is slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 3rd on ESPN2.

Ryan Newman Quote

RYAN WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE GOING TO RUN A SPECIAL PAINT SCHEME AND THE NO. 08 AT ATLANTA NEXT WEEK IN THE CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES TO HONOR A FRIEND OF YOURS THAT IS AN UP AND COMING DRIVER. WHAT DID HE DO TO MAKE SUCH A FAVORABLE IMPRESSION ON YOU?

“He was a good man and it’s just as simple as that. He became a friend of mine and we actually met the Slocumb family at Atlanta Motor Speedway and I had asked Ed for a good place to go fishing in the area and he said ‘why don’t you come down to the Slocumb house?’ So I drove about 50 minutes down to the Slocumb house and fished for a little while and got a chance to meet Beau and the rest of the family and turns out he became a very good friend and we had a lot of things similar, lifestyle-wise and long story short he lost a battle with cancer.

He was employed at Turner Motorsports and working on the trucks and it was his dream to race a truck and he had raced an ARCA car for Steve Turner there a couple times and think his best finish was 4th at Kansas if I remember right but it’s just a way to remember him and give his family an opportunity to see something that he always wanted to do and his name is going to be on the passenger side on top of the roof and just real thankful for having Realtree and Brandt to step up and sponsor the race for us and for a way to just give back to the memory of someone else. Steve Turner may have been a bigger Beau Slocumb fan than I was and never got a chance to watch Beau race much but he was a very genuine man and was raised right and that is what struck me first and foremost.”

Montreal Media Availability – Reed Sorenson will be available to the media on Friday, August 19 at 1:15 p.m. in the media center at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Clawing Back In Points Battle - Sorenson and the Dollar General team worked very hard for their top-15 finish at Watkins Glen last weekend. After enduring a wild two laps to the checkered flag, the team finished 13th and gained two spots in the point standings. Sorenson is now only 10 points out of the top spot. In 23 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts this season, Sorenson has earned one win, seven top-fives and 15 top-10 finishes.

Looking for Deja Vu in First Time Start - Sorenson will be making his first ever career start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve this weekend. Just like his trip to Road America earlier this season, Sorenson has never even seen the 2.709-mile road course in Montreal, Canada. In that race at Road America, Sorenson survived three green-white-checkered finish attempts to score his first win of the season in dramatic fashion.

Welcoming Home a Native Son – The trip to Montreal is a homecoming of sorts for one member of the Dollar General crew. Shaun Peet, jackman for the No. 32 team, is from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, located on the west coast of Canada and northwest of Bellingham, Washington. Peet is a former AHL hockey player and graduate of Dartmouth University.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-300 in the NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. This is the same Dollar General machine that Sorenson piloted to victory at Road America in June.

Reed Sorenson - Photo Credit: John Harrelson / Getty Images for NASCAR

Sorenson on making his first start at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve:

“After last weekend at Watkins Glen, I’m pretty excited to get to our final road course race of the season. Trent [Owens, crew chief] really made the right call in having us come back down pit road [at Watkins Glen] to make sure everything was in order under the hood there, but we had a really good car. I will approach the race in Montreal the same way I did at Road America and hopefully we can have another good result. I just want to try and stay on track, keep the car clean and not be too hard on the equipment. We’ve had really good practice sessions and races at both of the road courses so far, getting better each run, and I think we can do the same thing this weekend as well. If it comes down to another fuel strategy race, I have all the faith in the world in Trent [Owens] and my crew that we can get it done.”

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

Sorenson’s Season to Date - Reed Sorenson and the Dollar General team posted their third consecutive top-10 finish last weekend at Iowa Speedway. After taking the checkered flag in the sixth spot, Sorenson now owns one win, seven top-fives and 15 top-10 finishes in 22 starts this season. He is ranked second in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) championship point standings, just 12 points out of the lead.

Show Me the Money – Along with his sixth-place finish at Iowa, Sorenson took home the Nationwide Series Dash 4 Cash (D4C) award for the second time this season. He secured the $100,000 prize after scoring the highest finish of the eligible D4C drivers including teammates Justin Allgaier and Jason Leffler, along with Michael Annett. By winning the second D4C race, Sorenson becomes eligible for the third paying race at Richmond International Raceway in September. Sorenson is also the only driver eligible for the $1 million payout at the end of the season.

Sorenson at The Glen - Even though Sorenson has made two starts at the 2.45-mile road course, he hasn’t been to the track for a NNS race since 2006. He has an average start of 30.5 and an average finishing position of 34.5. Sorenson’s highest finish of 28th came in the 2006 start.

Reigning Road Course Winner – Sorenson heads into the second road course race of the season with a great deal of confidence after winning the series’ first road course stop at Road America in June. In dramatic fashion, Sorenson took the checkered flag after three green-white-checkered finish attempts and nearly running out of fuel. It was Sorenson’s first win and the team’s second of the 2011 season.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-306 in the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International. This is a brand new chassis for the Dollar General team and will see its first competitive laps this weekend.

“I’m pretty excited to get to Watkins Glen and try my hand at another road course. We obviously had a really good race at Road America and I’m just going to apply the same principles this weekend as I did there. I think the best way to approach a road course is to stay on the track and take it easy on the transmission and brakes. I feel like if you can master those things successfully, you have the chance at having a pretty good day. It doesn’t hurt when you have someone like Trent [Owens, crew chief] calling the shots from the pit box. He and our engineer have done a great job at calculating the fuel mileage. It went a long way to getting us that win at Road America.”

July 8, 2011

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

· Last Start of 2011 with Turner Motorsports - Mark Martin will make his final NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start this weekend with Turner Motorsports at Kentucky Speedway. In his first three starts, Martin posted one win, one top-five and three top-10 finishes. The win came at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and was the first victory for Turner Motorsports in 2011.

· Wearing His Rookie Stripes – Even though Martin is a 22-year veteran of the NNS, he will be making his first start at Kentucky Speedway this weekend and therefore will be deemed a “rookie”. While Martin will be on track in his No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy during the NNS rookie meeting, the No. 32 Dollar General Chevy will still have the bright yellow “rookie stripe” across the rear bumper.

· Still Searching for No. 50 – Just as it is his final 2011 start with Turner Motorsports, this weekend also signifies Martin’s final opportunity this season to get to victory lane for his 50th career NNS win. Even though there is fierce competition for the title from Kyle Busch, who has 48 series victories, Martin still is the all-time win leader in the series and looking to get No. 50 at Kentucky Speedway.

· A Model of Consistency - The No. 32 Dollar General team continues to impress with extremely consistent stats throughout the first half of the season. In 17 starts, the Trent Owens-led Dollar General team has scored two wins, eight top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. For the second consecutive weekend, the No. 32 team leads the NNS point standings.

· Heading Home - This weekend is a homecoming for a member of the No. 32 Dollar General team. Mechanic Rob “Porkchop” Tracy hails from the capitol city of Frankfort, KY, located just under 60 miles from Kentucky Speedway.

· This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Martin will pilot TMS-130 in the Feed the Children 300 on Friday evening. This is the same chassis he drove three weeks ago at Michigan International Speedway where he started 11th and finished seventh.

Mark Martin

Martin on his final start of 2011 with Turner Motorsports:

“I’ve had a lot of fun racing for Turner Motorsports this season. We were fortunate enough to get the win at Las Vegas and have had a few really solid runs in the meantime. I’m real hopeful we can get that Dollar General car to victory lane again this weekend at Kentucky. It would be a great way to finish off my time with the team. I can’t thank everyone at Turner (Motorsports) and Dollar General enough for giving me the opportunity to get in their cars a few times this year. They are a great group of guys and I’ve had a blast working with them.”

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

· One-For-One at Road America - In only his first start at Road America, Reed Sorenson and the Dollar General team emerged as winners from the 4.048-mile road course. After the race was extended over 28 miles from its original length, Sorenson had enough fuel to withstand the extra seven laps. With the win, Sorenson returns to the top of the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) driver point standings. In 16 NNS starts, Sorenson has one win, six top-fives and 11 top-10s with an average start of 11.1 and an average finish of 8.9.

· Dollar General Team Leading the Way – Saturday’s win at Road America also put the No. 32 Dollar General team and Turner Motorsports atop the owner point standings. This is the second time this season for the No. 32 Dollar General group to lead the owner’s points, the first being after the team’s win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. So far in 2011, the Dollar General team has amassed two wins, seven top-five and 14 top-10s.

· Sorenson at Daytona - In eight career NNS starts at the famed Daytona International Speedway (DIS), Sorenson has tallied one top-five and four top-10 finishes, with an average starting spot of 14.4 and an average finish of 18.8. His NNS career-best finish of fifth came in the 2011 season opener.

· Turner Motorsports Showing Strength - The win at Road America gave Turner Motorsports their third NNS victory this season. Mark Martin notched the team’s first at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Justin Allgaier took the checkered flag on June 4 at Chicagoland Speedway. The win adds to the team’s solid stats in 2011 which include three wins, 14 top-five and 35 top-10 finishes.

· Show Me the Money - This weekend’s race at DIS marks the first of four in Nationwide Insurance’s Dash 4 Cash program. As one of the drivers ranked in the top-four in points, Sorenson is eligible for the $100,000 bonus to be awarded for the top-finishing NNS-only driver in Friday night’s race. Like his teammate Justin Allgaier, who is also participating, Sorenson will be carrying a blue Nationwide logo on his windshield to signify his eligibility.

· This Week’s Impala - This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-109 in the Subway Jalapeno 250 on Friday evening. This is the same car Sorenson raced in the season-opener at DIS as well as at Talladega Superspeedway, earning fifth and ninth-place finishes respectively.

Reed Sorenson - Photo Credit: John Harrelson / Getty Images for NASCAR

Sorenson on heading to Daytona after his first win of 2011:

“The win up at Road America was such an awesome thing for this whole team. I can’t thank Trent (Owens) and my guys enough for all they did and continue to do every weekend. We’ve had all the pieces week-in and week-out and were finally able to be in a position to go to victory lane. This really gives us a lot of momentum going into Daytona, which is another wild-card race where anything can happen- especially in the closing laps. I enjoy the racing there and am excited to look for my Turner Motorsports teammates again as I’m sure the two-car hook-ups are going to be a factor in the outcome. You need to find a good partner early because the race is shorter in the summer and I’m sure it will go by quickly. I’d love nothing more than to get another win for Dollar General this weekend and that Dash 4 Cash money that Nationwide is putting up for us regulars wouldn’t be bad either!”

No. 32 Dollar General Chevy

Road America

Bucyrus 200

June 25, 2011

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

· Sorenson Season in Review - As the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) marches toward the halfway point in the season, Reed Sorenson continues to make a name for himself in the championship point standings. After 15 races in 2011, Sorenson has earned five top-five and 10 top-10 finishes along with 83 laps led. He has an average starting position of 11.1 and average finish of 9.5. Sorenson is currently ranked third in a very close points battle, just four markers out of the lead.

· There’s a First Time for Everything - Sorenson will be making his track debut this weekend at Road America in an NNS car. Formula One champion Jacques Villenueve was behind the wheel of the No. 32 Dollar General machine in last season’s event at the 4.0-mile road course where he started second and finished 25th after suffering electrical issues. Sorenson will rely heavily on the experience his Trent Owens-led team gained from that race as well as Villenueve’s input.

· Getting the Lay of the Land - Last week, Sorenson joined teammates Ricky Carmichael and Justin Allgaier at Road America to drive Mazda sports cars around the track with Chris Cook. While Mazda cars are very different than the NNS cars drivers will pilot this weekend, the experience allowed the Turner Motorsports drivers to get a feel for the course, as two of the three drivers had yet to see it.

· Sorenson on Road Courses – Sorenson has made four NNS starts at road courses; two each at Mexico City and Watkins Glen, respectively. In those starts, he has a combined average start of 26.2 and average finish of 29.8.

· Dollar General Team Holding Steady in Top-Three - After their seventh-place finish last weekend at Michigan International Speedway with Mark Martin at the wheel, the Dollar General team continues to hold on to third-place in the owner point standings. The team notched another top-10 finish, bringing their 2011 team total to 13 which leads all NNS teams.

· This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-300 in the Bucyrus 200 at Road America. This is a brand new road course chassis for the No. 32 Dollar General team.

Sorenson on racing at Road America for the first time:

“Going up to Road America this weekend is going to be a new challenge for me. It’s one I’m looking forward to though. I think the first thing I need to do is make sure I have a handle on mapping out the track and which way the turns come at me. Finding out where the passing zones are will be huge as well. Fortunately, one of the factors that will even out the playing field is the new Nationwide Series cars. The guys that were here last year used the old style cars. I’m definitely going to lean on Trent (Owens, crew chief) and the experience he and the guys gained having Jacques (Villenueve) in the Dollar General car in last year’s race. I’m really excited to get up to Road America and see what we can do. I think we’ll definitely have some fun!”

· Sorenson’s Season in Review – In his nine NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts in 2011, Reed Sorenson has amassed two top-fives and five top-10s with six laps led. He has an average start of 13.1 and an average finish of 11.7. After leading the point standings for two consecutive weeks early in the season, Sorenson is currently ranked fourth and has yet to fall from the top-five.

· Sorenson at Darlington Raceway – Sorenson will be making his first NNS start since 2006 at the “Lady in Black” this weekend. Sorenson has scored one top-10 finish in three starts, which came in his track debut back in 2004. He has an average start of 25.7 and average finish of 14.7. Sorenson has finished on the lead lap in all three of his starts completing all of the attempted 441 laps.

· Coming Home – This weekend’s race is a homecoming for two members of the No. 32 Dollar General team. Crew chief Trent Owens and team engineer Tristan Smith hail from Darlington, South Carolina. Owens graduated from St. Johns High School in 1993 while Smith earned his degree from Mayo High School for Math, Science and Technology in 2000.

· Dollar General Exceeds Million Dollar Goal In Autism Awareness Campaign - Throughout the month of April, Dollar General offered customers the opportunity to make donations to Autism Speaks during check-out to honor Autism Awareness month which was observed in April. Through the generous support and donations from their customers, Dollar General raised over one million dollars for Autism Speaks. The Autism Speaks logo was featured on Dollar General’s NASCAR Nationwide Series No. 32 car, driven by Reed Sorenson, throughout April to raise awareness for the campaign.

· Thanking the Father of Mother’s Day – This weekend is a big one for Turner Motorsports marketing partner the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE). The international nonprofit organization is credited with leading the charge to found Mother’s Day. Past Grand Worthy President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Frank E. Hering, made the first known public plea for “a national day to honor our mothers” in 1904. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed Mother’s Day the second Sunday in May and in 1925 Hering was introduced as the “Father of Mother’s Day”.

· This Week’s Impala - This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-122 in the Royal Purple 200 at Darlington Raceway. This car has been run twice this season, at Texas Motor Speedway and Nashville Superspeedway, both resulting in top-10 finishes for the Dollar General team.

Reed Sorenson

Sorenson on Darlington Raceway:

“Darlington is a track that doesn’t necessarily reward aggressiveness, especially early in a run. You want to try and save your tires as much as you can. It’s a difficult task for us as drivers because, by nature, we want to get after it right off the bat. While the “Darlington Stripe” is almost a badge of honor, it’s not something we go in search of for obvious reasons. We are bringing a proven Dollar General Chevy this weekend, one we’ve gotten a couple of top-10s with at Texas and Nashville. I’m definitely looking for more of the same this weekend. The points race is just so close and I’d love to get up there and challenge my teammates for the lead.”

Blaney will pilot a Toyota owned by Dave Blaney and Ohio businessman Jim Weller. Trent Owens, regularly the crew chief for Reed Sorenson in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, will serve in the same role for the 17-year-old.

“I could not be happier to be making my first NASCAR start,” said Blaney. “To go to a place like Richmond is really cool and to do it in this series, where a lot of young drivers have come in and done well on their way to Cup, Nationwide, and Trucks, is pretty exciting.

“I’m confident in the team’s ability to do well. Between Trent Owens and my dad, there’s a pool of knowledge to pull from to do well at this place.”

Blaney has enjoyed success at the Super Late Model level, having captured five victories across three different states since 2010.

Blaney’s father Dave is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor and was the 1995 World of Outlaws champion.

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

Back in the Saddle Again - Reed Sorenson will rejoin the No. 32 Dollar General team this week at Texas Motor Speedway after a stint in the No. 30 Rexall car in California. Sorenson’s last race in the Dollar General Chevy was at Bristol Motor Speedway where he started 17th and finished 34th after suffering from an engine issue.

Sorenson At Texas – In seven Nationwide Series starts at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway, Sorenson has found some success with three top-fives, four top-10s and 31 laps led. He notched his highest finish of third on two separate occasions, his track debut in 2005 and again last season.

Home-track Advantage – The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) is heading to Turner Motorsports’ home track this weekend. With the team’s original headquarters in Hallettsville, Texas this is a special track for the organization. Turner’s youngest daughter, Kris, and current Turner Motorsports driver, James Buescher, have both won championships for the organization racing Bandolero cars at the 1.5-mile tri-oval. Buescher captured the organization’s first NASCAR pole award there in the NNS event last November.

During the Off Week… – During the Nationwide Series off-week last week, Sorenson along with fellow drivers Travis Kvapil and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. traveled to Nashville Superspeedway to help get fans ready for the Camping World Truck Series and Nationwide Series events there in two weeks. The trio of drivers gave ride-alongs at the 1.25-mile speedway to a few lucky fans who had purchased season ticket packages and spent time with local media.

Testing 1, 2, 3 – Sorenson and his No. 32 Dollar General team traveled to Iowa Speedway this week for a Goodyear Tire test. The team was on track collecting data for the tire provider on Monday and Tuesday before heading to Texas on Wednesday.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-122 in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. This is the first time this chassis has been run this season.

Reed Sorenson - Photo Credit: John Harrelson / Getty Images for NASCAR

Sorenson on heading to Texas for night racing:

“We’ve a busy week this week with the tire test in Iowa and I’m excited to end the week under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night. I think having a night race there is going to add a new dimension of excitement for us as drivers as well as the fans. I really enjoy racing at Texas and I’m thrilled to be back with Trent (Owens, crew chief) and the guys on this No. 32 Dollar General team. I’m hopeful for a good, solid finish to start climbing our way back to the top of the driver’s standings.”

No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

· Making His Return - Mark Martin makes his return to the No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet this weekend for the Royal Purple 300 at Auto Club Speedway (ACS). In his last outing with the team at Las Vegas, Martin won the event on the last lap, capitalizing on a solid fuel strategy call by crew chief Trent Owens. Martin will make two additional starts after this weekend with the Dollar General team at Michigan International Speedway and Kentucky Speedway.

· First Visit to Victory Lane for Turner Motorsports - With his victory in the Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Martin scored the first team victory for the newly expanded Turner Motorsports. The team grew in 2011 from a two-truck operation in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) to become the largest stand-alone multi-series team in NASCAR’s top-tier touring series, fielding three entries in the NCWTS and four entries in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS).

· Martin at Auto Club Speedway - In his two starts at the two-mile speedway, Martin owns one win, two top-fives and two top-10s. He has an average start of 7.0 and average finish of 2.0. Of the 300 laps he’s run in Nationwide Series competition at ACS, Martin has led 190 of them.

· In The Loop… – According to NASCAR Loop Statistics, Martin is at the top of the list in five of 16 categories which rate drivers going into the race weekend from the past 12 races at ACS. The veteran tops the chart in average mid race position (1.0), average finishing position (2.0), average running position (2.4), percentage of laps led (63.3%) and driver rating (146.3).

· One of Two - With Martin’s Nationwide win at Las Vegas earlier this month, he became one of just two drivers to earn a NASCAR national touring series win in each of the last four decades. Martin joins Michael Waltrip, who won the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race earlier this year at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway

· This Week’s Impala - Martin will pilot TMS-118 in this weekend’s Royal Purple 300 at Auto Club Speedway. This was the same chassis that Martin drove to victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway two weeks ago in the Nationwide Series race.

Mark Martin

Martin on working with the Dollar General team again at ACS:

“I’m really looking forward to getting back in that Dollar General Chevy for Turner Motorsports. After winning at Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago I’ve been itching to get back in it. I’ve had some good luck out in California. I’ve only raced in the Nationwide car twice out there – led a lot of laps in both of them and got a win in 2005. I’m hoping that success can continue and we can keep our winning streak alive and make it two in a row for Turner this weekend.”

Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event / Date: Too Tough To Tame 200 – March 12, 2011

Venue: Darlington Raceway – Darlington, S.C.

This Week’s Monster Energy Chevrolet Silverado … Ricky Carmichael will pilot chassis TMS-009 from the Turner Motorsports NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) stable in Saturday’s Too Tough To Tame 200 at Darlington Raceway. This is the same Monster Energy Chevrolet Silverado he raced last August at Darlington where a late-race accident left him with a 24th-place finish. Built new last season, the same truck also saw action at Pocono Raceway where Carmichael started 17th and finished 19th.

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner … Turner Motorsports notched its first win in NASCAR Nationwide Series competition last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when Mark Martin’s Trent Owens-led Dollar General team came out on the winning end of a calculated fuel mileage gamble. It was the first NASCAR win for Texas businessman Steve Turner. Meanwhile, all three of Turner Motorsports full-time Nationwide Series drivers reside in the top five in points. Reed Sorenson leads the points while teammates Jason Leffler and Justin Allgaier are third and fifth, respectively.

Darlington Details … Carmichael’s lone NCWTS start at Darlington came last August where he started 16th and was headed for a prospective top-10 finish when he was collected in a late-race incident and left with a 24th-place result.

Phoenix Facts … Two weeks ago, at Phoenix International Raceway, Carmichael started 28th and finished 31st. The Monster Energy team lost a lap early, clawed their way back onto the lead lap and positioned themselves for a potential top-10 finish, only to be collected in a late-race incident of another driver’s doing. As a result, Carmichael slipped from being tied for third points to 13th in the standings. Still, the 31-year-old driver is just 21 markers behind point-leader Matt Crafton and a slim seven points outside the top 10.

In a Nutshell … The 2011 season marks Carmichael’s second year competing on a full-time basis in the NCWTS. Since making his series debut 45 races ago, the father of two has gone on to earn three top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. Over those same 45 races, Carmichael has logged a 14th-place average start, a 16.8 average finish, completed 91.97 percent of the laps run and earned just over $600,000 in purse money.

Welcome Aboard … Turner Motorsports and Monster Energy are pleased to welcome BI-LO and Markette to the lower-rear quarter panels of the No. 4 Monster Energy Silverado. BI-LO and Super BI-LO grocery stores serve customers throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia with fresh, high-quality products and excellent service at the very best value. There are currently 23 Markette Convenience Stores located throughout the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina. Markette has proudly served its customers for over 40 years, providing state-of-the-art facilities, outstanding customer service and a variety of fuel types to meet every need.

Meet the Driver … Carmichael, along with Turner Motorsports teammate James Buescher and several other NCWTS drivers will participate in an autograph session on Sat., March 12 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. The event will take place on Darlington’s pit road and will be open to fans with pre-race pit passes. The following day, the No. 4 machine will be back in Hartsville at the Markette Convenience Store at 104 West Bobo Newsom Hwy from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Hartsville is approximately 14 miles northwest of Darlington Raceway.
Last year was the first time you’d raced at Darlington. What were your first impressions of the race track not only when you first saw it but when you actually got out on the track?

“Obviously, the track has been there a long time and there’s a lot of history there. Once I got out on the track, I was surprised about how much grip there was. You feel like you’re going so fast because you’re right next to the wall so, from that perspective, it’s a lot of fun. It’s kind of tough to try and make passes but it’s really fun when you’re by yourself logging laps. I really enjoyed it. It’s crazy because we’re pretty much wide open through Turns 1 and 2. It’s wild because Darlington feels and races like a short track but we’re wide open through the corners like we do at the bigger mile-and-half tracks. That’s a testament to how well these trucks are prepared and how much grip they make.”

Are there any motocross tracks that you could compare Darlington to? Not just from a historical standpoint but from a challenge perspective?

“I’d have to compare Darlington to a really rough, sand track like Southwick National in Massachusetts. In the motocross world, that’s the type of track that’s really hard to get it right and master. You have to be mentally tough and hit your marks to be on top of your game. It’s also very challenging like racing on a hard-packed, dry, slick track like the Las Vegas Supercross where you have to be very precise with your line.”

The common theme to approaching Darlington has always been ‘race the racetrack.’ But with 147 laps clicking off at 30 seconds a piece, there isn’t a whole lot of time to get it done. With that short of a race, do you need to worry about racing guys and passing guys or if you ‘race the race track’ and don’t have any problems, does everything else take care of itself?

“Hopefully, we’ll have a great Monster Energy Chevy Silverado and we’ll qualify well and have good track position from the outset of race. That being said, there’s obviously going to be times where you have to pass a guy and that’s tough at Darlington. What I have to focus on is racing the track if I’m not racing side-by-side or nose-to-tail with someone else. You have to make your moves fast at Darlington because there’s not a lot of real estate to deal with. You have to make your passes very quickly and make it stick.”

At Darlington, you’re on the edge the whole time and the fast guys are right up against the wall on the top of the race track. Do you enjoy that style of racing?

“The guys who have been doing this a long time and can be aggressive really quickly are going to have an advantage. It’s a big challenge for me because I don’t have a lot of experience getting after it right now. It’s tougher but I enjoy that challenge.”

Turner Motorsports won its first Nationwide Series race last weekend in Las Vegas. How excited were you, not for only Mr. Turner but for the entire organization to get that first win?

“I was ecstatic for the entire organization. It shows a lot about what we’ve got going on. I was really excited for Steve and his whole family. He deserves to win races. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people deserve wins be he’s definitely committed to being a top player and having one of the best organizations in this business. We’ve got great personnel and great equipment. Mark (Martin) really helped me a lot when I started racing late models down in Florida so as much as I wanted to be the guy to get the Turners that first win, I’m really glad that Mark was the guy who made it happen. It’s a big confidence builder for the whole company and proves that we have a winning organization.”
