Post-Race Notes & Quotes

Texas Motor Speedway – November 4, 2011

- Miguel Paludo (ninth) was the highest finishing Toyota driver in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Texas Motor Speedway.

- Tundra drivers Timothy Peters (11th), Todd Bodine (13th), Max Papis (14th) and Johanna Long (18th) were also earned top-20 finishes in the 148-lap event.

- Other Toyota drivers in the field included David Starr (23rd), Johnny Chapman (29th), Brendan Gaughan (31st) and Kyle Busch (33rd).

Peters is fifth in the unofficial NCWTS point standings — 58 points behind leader Austin Dillon. Bodine (sixth), – Gaughan (12th), Starr (13th), Paludo (17th) and Papis (18th) are also in the top-20 in the point standings.

MIGUEL PALUDO, No. 7 Duroline Brakes and Components Toyota Tundra, Red Horse Racing

Finishing Position: 9th

How was your race?

“It was good, you know, top-10. Good for these guys and good for me as well for the points. I want to try to get top-15 (in points). We fought a loose truck during the race. Made adjustments, got free, got good in the middle, so next time we need to be a little bit tighter, but overall it was good.”

What happened on the final restart?

“I was saving fuel, so I tried to clean my tires before the restart, but the front ones I couldn’t. I went straight up in turn one and that hurt us a little bit, but once I got clean I went and gained two or three spots. It was a good day for us and I’m glad for a ninth-place finish here.”

TIMOTHY PETERS, No. 17 NTB / Service Central, Red Horse Racing

Finishing Position: 11th

How was your race?

“Oh, it was good right until the last lap. I hated that caution that came out there and gave us a green-white-checkered. I knew something about a little over halfway something was going on. It felt like a valve spring might have came loose on us. All in all, Triad Racing Technologies does a great job. Everybody in the pits did a great job. This Service Central National Tire and Batteries Tundra was great all night long. We have a weekend off and we’re going to work on this baby right here and take it to Homestead and the good Lord willing, maybe we can get on that stage.”

What happened on the final lap?

“She just blew up. It’s a good effort by everybody. That’s why they call it racing. We take the good with the bad.”

TODD BODINE, No. 5, Big Red Tundra, Randy Moss Motorsports

Finishing Position: 13th

MAX PAPIS, No. 9 GEICO Tundra, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 14th

How was your race?

“We fought like hell and I almost got by Todd (Bodine) going through (turn) three on last the restart, but it was a great battle and we learned a lot today and I’m really proud.”

Was the bottom lane the preferred line?

“It was good. It was kind of like the bottom lane was the fast lane, but to pass you had to go on the outside. Passing was very difficult, but I learned a ton tonight.”

JOHANNA LONG, No. 20 Panhandle Grading & Paving Tundra, Panhandle Motorsports

Finishing Position: 18th

DAVID STARR, No. 81 Zachry / NCCER / ASI Limited Tundra, SS Green Light Racing

Finishing Position: 23rd

What happened to your Tundra?

“We struggled with handling all day, but we started to get it right there at the end. I thought I was going to get a top-10, but
we just had an engine problem. It’s disappointing.”

JOHNNY CHAPMAN, No. 07 BOBBER.info / ASI Limited Tundra, SS Green Light Racing

Finishing Position: 29th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN, No. 62 International Trucks / Monaco RVs Tundra, Germain Racing

Finishing Position: 31st

What happened out there?

“There’s a big hole where there shouldn’t be a hole. I don’t know. On the restart, we were great, man. We went from 21st to like 11th in the first 25 laps or something. Our Tundra was fast just like we said it would be with race cars around us. We were smoking. Made a couple of adjustments right off the bat. On the restart, everything is good. Put it in first, put it in second, put it in third and all of the sudden she vibrated and ‘ka-bang.’ I don’t know what it was. Triad (Racing Technologies) does a great job for us. You never know what these things are. Could be a metal part. Could be many different things. They do a great job all year. That’s the first one I’ve had in two years now with Triad, so I’ll take that record any day.”

KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Traxxas Tundra, Kyle Busch Motorsports

Finishing Position: 33rd

What happened between you and Ron Hornaday Jr.?

“Well, if you consider Ron (Hornaday Jr.) was in the championship, maybe Ron could have played it a little smarter on lap 15 and checked up a little and given room to everybody around. Obviously, if you make it a three-wide situation — I can’t go up in the dirt, you know? I’m already on the outside lane. There’s not three lanes out here right now. It’s a truck race. It’s the first race of the night here this weekend. So if I just lay over and give up everything for Ron Hornaday, that’s not Kyle Busch’s fashion. I’m out here to win a race just as much as anybody else is and when he races up on my inside, gets loose and takes me up to the fence, I ended up losing my cool. And, I’ve been wrecked four weeks in a row and finally I just had
enough of it. I’m sorry it was Ron Hornaday and he’s going after a championship, but the fact of the matter is it’s just — you can’t place all the blame on one person. There was two people who got into it to begin with and there was two people that ended it.”

What happened on the race track with the incident under green and then under caution?

“Obviously it’s two guys racing for tight real estate. There’s only two lanes of race track out there right now. I’m racing for a win just as much as Ron Hornaday is and it’s lap 15. If he wants to make it three-wide with a lap car knowing that you always get loose when you’re on the inside, he got loose and got into me and knocked me up into the wall. I lost my cool, yeah, no doubt about it. I’ve been wrecked four weeks in a row and I’ve had enough of it and I retaliated. It’s certainly my fault for doing that. But, if everybody wants to say Hornaday is racing for a championship and roll over, that’s not my fashion. That’s not anybody else’s fashion out here. All these race car drivers are racers to go out here and win a race and that’s what I was here to do and I got taken out of it on lap 15.”

Did you do anything wrong or do you feel like you defended yourself?

“My truck was hurt. I brushed the wall, but my truck was hurt where I don’t think we could have won after that. If you’re a guy racing for a championship, you need to be smart enough to understand that you can’t go three-wide on lap 15. Knowing how bad the trucks are when you’re on the inside of somebody, not expect to get loose. Yeah it was my fault after the fact, but who’s going to fix my truck after it wrecked in turn two the first time?”

MOTOR: Triad Racing Technologies

BROADCAST: Saturday, October 29, 2 p.m. ET, SPEED/MRN/Sirius NASCAR 90

NOTES AND QUOTES:

SPECIAL MILITARY-THEMED PAINT SCHEME AT MARTINSVILLE:

Josh Richards will run a special paint scheme at Martinsville Speedway this weekend to highlight artwork created by Alexandra and Hunter Vogel of Mooresville, N.C. The children’s artwork was created to honor the U.S. Navy SEALs and warriors who lost their lives fighting terrorism in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011.

The NSW Community tragically lost 22 members on August 6. The fallen included Navy SEALs, Explosive Ordinance Disposal warriors, information systems professionals and cryptologic specialists. Along with these naval personnel, members of the Army aircrew, Air Force personnel and Afghan partners that fight with our soldiers every day were also lost in their efforts to serve our country.

Growing up as part of a Navy family, nine-year-old Hunter and seven-year-old Alexandra crafted artwork to show support for the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) families who lost loved ones on August 6. Hunter and Alexandra have since had their artwork made into stickers and have given them away to remind people of the sacrifices these and other warriors make every day. As a result, many of those who met Alexandra and Hunter and heard their story have made donations to the Navy SEAL Foundation, in turn making donations to the widows and children of the warriors who lost loved ones in that August 6 battle.

Richards met Hunter and Alexandra in August and has since had their special sticker on his Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra in Bristol, Atlanta and Kentucky. Richards’ partner Joy Mining Machinery was impressed by the story, and the company decided they would help Richards to extend Alexandra and Hunter’s message. The company created a special paint scheme and generously donated the hood branding on Richards’ entry for Saturday’s NCWTS race at Martinsville Speedway to further showcase Alexandra and Hunter’s effort and artwork.

Alexandra and Hunter Vogel, their family and guests from the Navy SEAL Foundation and the NSW community will attend the NCWTS race at Martinsville on Saturday as special guests of Richards and Joy Mining Machinery.

A website was created to help get the word out about the stickers and their fundraising effort. For more information, please visit www.NSWKids.com. To make a donation to the Navy SEAL Foundation, go to www.NavySEALFoundation.org.

KYLE BUSCH MOTORSPORTS AT MARTINSVILLE:

In four combined starts at Martinsville Speedway, Kyle Busch Motorsports Tundras have earned one pole and three top-five finishes while leading 92 laps of competition. KBM Toyotas have completed 100 percent (956 of 956) of laps contested at Martinsville Speedway. Team owner Kyle Busch has tallied two runner-up finishes in his last two attempts at the .526 mile Virginia track.

Josh Richards

JOSH RICHARDS ON THE SPECIAL SEALs PAINT SCHEME FOR MARTINSVILLE:

“It was an honor to meet Hunter and Alexandra Vogel and to be a part of their effort to honor the Navy SEALs and warriors who gave their lives fighting terrorism. Their effort to honor the fallen has become a fundraiser for the Navy SEAL Foundation, and the widows and children of those who lost their lives on August 6. It’s such a privilege to have their artwork on the hood of the Joy Mining Machinery Toyota for the race this weekend at Martinsville and to have Hunter, Alexandra, their family and guests from the Naval Special Warfare community at the race with the our team. Joy Mining Machinery generously donated branding for this race, and I really appreciate what they’ve done to help with this fundraising effort that Hunter and Alexandra started with the NSW Kids sticker campaign.”

CREW CHIEF RICK REN ON TRANSITIONING FROM TALLADEGA TO MARTINSVILLE:

“Going from the high speeds at Talladega to short track racing at Martinsville is going to be a big change for Josh. The pace lap speed at Talladega was 70 mph, and at Martinsville they aren’t racing too much faster than that on green flag runs. One big change is pit road. It’s totally different at Martinsville. You have to learn to drive to a certain point and braking, throttle position and timing are key. The most important thing at Martinsville is to not hit the curb. It’s really easy at Martinsville to hit the curb and then jump in front of traffic and get spun out. Martinsville is a track where if a driver is a hard charger, he usually doesn’t run well there. At Martinsville, you’ve got to attack the track, but you can’t attack it aggressively. One of the cool things about NASCAR is that there are no two tracks that are exactly alike. They all have their own character.”

CHASSIS SELECTION:

Chassis KBM-134 will be making its first start of the 2011 season this weekend at Martinsville. It is the same Tundra that Brian Ickler drove to a third-place finish at Martinsville in 2010 after starting 32nd due to qualifying rain out. KBM-134 was also Busch’s primary chassis for his second-place finish at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis in July of 2010.

- Richards’ Returns to Truck Racing in ‘Dega: Saturday’s 250-mile NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Talladega Superspeedway will be 23-year-old Josh Richards’ seventh career start in the Truck Series. Richards made his NCWTS debut at Kentucky Speedway on July 7 with Kyle Busch Motorsports and sponsor Joy Mining Machinery.

- KBM at Talladega: The Mooresville, N.C-based Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) team has one career NCWTS start on Talladega Superspeedway’s 2.66-mile tri-oval. Owner Kyle Busch piloted the No. 18 entry to one of eight total wins in 2010 at the October NCWTS event at Talladega en route to claiming the 2010 Truck Series Owners’ Championship. In 56 total NCWTS starts since their inception in 2010, Kyle Busch Motorsports has earned 15 victories, 30 top-five finishes, 36 top-10 finishes and eight pole awards while leading 1,919 laps of competition.

- Joy Mining Machinery at Talladega: Richards’ sponsor, Joy Mining Machinery, will have a group of over 100 employees and customers present at the Talladega Paddock Club on Saturday to support Richards and the No. 51 Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra it their seventh series start this season.

Josh Richards

- Josh Richards on this weekend’s race: “I’m excited to get on track at Talladega. Having a good leader like Rick Ren and an experienced team behind me, makes me feel more confident heading into Talladega. I look forward to racing on such a historic track.”

Crew Chief Rick Ren on working with a rookie driver at Talladega Superspeedway:

“I’ll have to give Josh some of the dos and don’ts about how you blend in, because the biggest thing is actually how you blend into the race track. You have to learn that when a group goes by you in excess of 190 mph it can pick you up and turn you right around on the race track with that big spoiler. I’ve had that happen with more than one rookie. The second thing we’re going to work on is trying to get him comfortable riding around there. I’ll start him on the bottom to get around there to not lift and get him comfortable. And then we’re going to have to get him into some drafting practice somewhere. I don’t want to put him in a three-wide situation during drafting practice. I think we need to keep him two-wide for practice. It’s important, so I need to teach him to learn to shift at the same point every time. It’s shifting, it’s pit road and if you get a little wiggle during draft, you can’t let off the draft, so there will be quite a bit to talk about.”

SPECIAL PAINT SCHEME AT MARTINSVILLE:

Richards will run a special paint scheme at Martinsville Speedway on October 29 highlighting artwork done by Alexandra and Hunter Vogel of Mooresville, N.C. The children’s artwork was created to honor the U.S. Navy SEALs and warriors who lost their lives fighting terrorism in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011.

Having been a part of a Navy family all of their lives, Hunter (9) and Alexandra (6) created artwork to show support for the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) families who lost loved ones on August 6. Hunter and Alexandra have since had their artwork made into stickers and have given them away to remind people of the sacrifices these and other warriors make everyday. As a result many who met Alexandra and Hunter and heard their story have made donations to the Navy SEAL Foundation.

The NSW Community lost 22 members on August 6. The fallen included Navy SEALs, Explosive Ordinance Disposal warriors, information systems professionals and cryptologic specialists. Along with these personnel, we also lost the Army aircrew, Air Force personnel and our Afghan partners that fight with our soldiers every day.

Richards met Hunter and Alexandra in August and has had their special sticker on his Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra in Bristol, Atlanta and Kentucky. Richards’ partner Joy Mining Machinery was impressed by the story and the company decided they would help Josh help Alexandra and Hunter get the word out. The company created a special paint scheme and generously donated the hood branding on Richards’ entry into the NCWTS race at Martinsville Speedway on October 29 to showcase Alexandra and Hunter’s effort and artwork on the truck.

Alexandra and Hunter Vogel, their family, guests from the Navy SEAL Foundation and the NSW community will attend the NCWTS race at Martinsville as special guests of Richards and Joy Mining Machinery.

A website was created to help get the word out about the stickers and the fundraising effort. For more information go to www.NSWKids.com. To make a donation to the Navy SEAL Foundation, go to www.NavySEALFoundation.org.

CHASSIS SELECTION:

Driver Tayler Malsam qualified sixth and finished 17th with this chassis in the 2010 NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona International Speedway in February 2010 in its lone start for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

- Josh Richards will make his debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) on Friday piloting the No. 15 Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra fielded by Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) This will be his fifth race in the series and first time to race at the 1.54 mile quad oval.

KBM at Atlanta Motor Speedway

- In 2010 owner-driver Kyle Busch started second and finished second in the NCWTS race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Driver Josh Richards on racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway:

- “I’m excited about going to Atlanta Motor Speedway on Friday. I’ve heard a lot about it from (crew chief) Rick Ren and I know it’s going to be a challenge. I’ve heard it’s a fast track and I look forward to getting out there, but I know I’ll have a lot to learn once we start practice on Friday.”

Crew Chief Rick Ren

“Atlanta’s going to be a little bit of a challenge. It will be a bit bigger test than Indy or Bristol, it can be forgiving but you have to be aggressive at Atlanta, it has very high-speed corners. It will probably be the most challenging place we’ve gone to with Josh, Kentucky was a handful for his first race, but Atlanta is tough, fighting your way around there will be a little bit difficult. We’ve had a lot of experiences there and won some races, we’ll be able to discuss that with him and get everything lined up there. This will be the test to see how much he’s improved over the last couple of races.”

CHASSIS SELECTION

Primary Chassis: KBM-3: Chassis 3 was the Toyota Tundra Josh raced at Kentucky Speedway in July. Prior to that, Kimi Raikkonen drove it in his NCWTS debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May. Raikkonen qualified 31st, but made his way as high as fifth before coming home with a 15th place finish in his first ever start in the series.

NOTES AND QUOTES

- Two-time World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion Josh Richards will make his debut at Bristol Motor Speedway and his fourth career start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) this week. In Wednesday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 200, Richards will pilot the No. 51 Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra fielded by Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM).

- This will be Richards’ first time to race at the World’s Fastest Half Mile, but the twenty three year-old did visit the track in 2000 and 2001 when his family’s race team entered the dirt late model races when the 0.533 mile track was temporarily a dirt oval. The historic track’s 0.533-mile oval was converted to dirt for a short time in both years requiring 14,000 truckloads (8,000 cubic feet) of red clay to cover the paved surface. The lap record of 13.86 seconds stood from 2000 until 2011 when Sammy Swindell made the fastest lap recorded at Bristol in a World of Outlaws Sprint car.

- Joy Mining Machinery will have over 350 employees and customers as guests to the speedway for hospitality and the NCWTS race on Wednesday. The guests are employees and customers coming from five Joy facilities within 160 miles of the speedway including engineering, manufacturing, warehouse and service centers.

- On Thursday, Richards will visit with one of Joy Mining Machinery’s biggest customers for a company picnic in Abingdon, Virginia with over 300 employees.

KBM at Bristol Motor Speedway:

- Team owner Kyle Busch won the NCWTS race at Bristol in 2010 from the pole and led 116 laps.

Driver Josh Richards on racing at Bristol Motor Speedway:

“Believe it or not, I’ve been to Bristol (Motor Speedway) for two dirt races, but never for a pavement race. I went in 2000 and 2001 when they converted the track to dirt for some races. That was really cool to have the opportunity to see that and to be at those races. This place was fast when it was dirt, and I know it’s going to be fast on Wednesday.”

“I spent some time this week talking with Rick and Kyle about Bristol. They talked with me about how the truck is set up, what line I need to run, when to brake and when not to brake. They gave me a lot of information that I can take on track with me.”

“I really can’t wait to get out there to see what it’s like. I know that KBM has brought a great truck for us, and I’m ready to get on track. I’m looking forward to having Kyle at the track again this week. He’s won here 11 times, with wins in all three series. To have that kind of mentor is an incredible benefit.”

Crew Chief Rick Ren:

“Josh showed a lot of improvement in his last race at Indianapolis. Now we’re going back to a short track, so it should give him some more confidence. Bristol is a little intimidating though if you’ve never been there. This week we worked with him to understand the line, and just about how to maneuver around Bristol. It’s tough to tell a driver when you go to a place like Bristol to stay away from the brake pedal, but that’s what you have to do at Bristol in a truck. You have to attack the track, get in the gas and stay away from the brake pedal. When we started practice at Indy, he really started to attack the racetrack differently than he had before. I expect to see more progression this week and he’ll have to attack the racetrack a lot harder, because Bristol’s not forgiving and you have to be very aggressive, attack the wheel and mash the gas.”

“Another important thing for Josh this week is to really pay attention to the spotter, more so than ever. Things happen even more quickly at Bristol than they do at other places. Josh is used to dirt racing without a radio, so he picks his own holes and sees where he’s going and makes his own maneuvers, at Bristol when the spotter says clear, you might only have two inches to go, so you have to take the opportunity. We’ll work on him on that during practice, he’s new at this having a spotter so the trust factor might not be there, but you really get in trouble quick if you don’t listen to your spotter.”

KYLE BUSCH AND TRAXXAS “STRIVE FOR FIVE” AT MIS

Traxxas, the leading manufacturer of hobby-class radio-controlled (R/C) vehicles, returns as the primary sponsor of Kyle Busch’s No. 18 Tundra for the VFW 200 Saturday at Michigan International Speedway, the second of three races the Plano, Texas-based company will sponsor in 2011. Busch, an R/C enthusiast, will be looking to make it a perfect five-for-five in races which Traxxas’ logo adorns the hood of his Tundra. In 2010, the Las Vegas native collected wins behind the wheel of the No. 18 Traxxas Tundra at Chicagoland Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway and this May he kept perfection intact by winning the Lucas Oil 200 at Dover International Speedway. Fans can purchase an officially licensed and ready-to-race 1/16th scale brushless R/C replica of Busch’s No. 18 Traxxas Tundra online at www.traxxas.com.

“We’ve been to Victory Lane all four times that Traxxas has been onboard our Tundra — not many sponsors in this sport can say that they’re undefeated. Hopefully, we can make it a perfect five-for-five this weekend at Michigan. I grew up an R/C vehicle enthusiast and even worked in a hobby store as a teenager, so Traxxas is a sponsor I can really relate to. When I’m not involved in something related to my NASCAR racing, you can usually find me working on or racing my R/C vehicles. It has been a great partnership on and off the track. To have the leading manufacturer of hobby-class R/C cars produce a Kyle Busch edition of their award-winning slash model last year was quite an honor. And when they came out with an officially licensed replica of our No. 18 Tundra this year, I thought that was pretty cool.”

KYLE BUSCH ON MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

“It’s a fun place to race. It’s a wide racetrack and you can run from top to bottom, which makes it exciting for both the drivers and the fans. I’ve had good runs throughout my career in the truck series at Michigan, but haven’t been able to get a win. I think I’ve finished twice two or three times and we’ve led a bunch of laps, but for whatever reason didn’t get to Victory Lane. We’re looking to change that this weekend and keep our perfect record with Traxxas as the primary sponsor on our Tundra intact.”

ERIC PHILLIPS ON PRIMARY CHASSIS SELECTION

“We are bringing our newest Tundra, KBM-8, to Michigan. It was a brand new truck when Kyle won with it at Charlotte in May and it’s raced twice since then — Kyle ran it at Kansas and Josh Richards ran it at Nashville. Since the Nashville race, we’ve put a lot of time and effort into finding ways to improve this piece. We’ve been to the seven-post rig and the wind tunnel and feel like we’ve found a few things that have allowed us to be bringing a better Tundra to the track this weekend.”

ERIC PHILLIPS ON MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

“One of the biggest wins of my career was at Michigan when Travis Kvapil gave Toyota their first National Series win, so it’s a place that brings back good memories. It has long straightaways and which makes most crew chiefs worry about horsepower but to me, the corners are the key. The corners are also long, so the better your truck turns and the longer your driver can stay in the gas, the faster you’ll be. We’ve put a lot of effort in preparing for this race and we’re excited to get to the track and see our hard work pay off.”

RACE: Lucas Deep Clean 200

TRACK: Nashville Superspeedway

TRUCK: No. 18 Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra

TEAM: Kyle Busch Motorsports

PRIMARY CHASSIS: KBM-8

BACKUP CHASSIS: KBM-2

MOTORS: Triad Racing Technologies

BROADCAST: Friday, July 22, 7:30 p.m. ET SPEED/MRN/Sirius NASCAR 90

NOTES AND QUOTES

Richards Makes Music City Debut

- Two-time World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion Josh Richards will make his Nashville Superspeedway debut and his second career start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) in Friday’s Lucas Deep Clean 200 in the No. 18 Joy Mining Machinery Toyota Tundra. Richards is also making his debut in the No. 18 Toyota Tundra, fielded by Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), having driven the No. 15 in his series debut at Kentucky Speedway. Joining forces with the reigning NCWTS owners’ champion, the 23-year-old West Virginia native is scheduled to compete in several races under the KBM and Joy Mining Machinery banners throughout the remainder of the 2011 NCWTS season.

- While at Nashville Superspeedway, Richards will be part of the NCWTS and NNS autograph session hosted by the speedway. The autograph session is scheduled for Friday, July 22 at 1 p.m. CT in the Expo area located outside Gate 3 at Nashville Superspeedway.

KBM and Eric Phillips in Music City

- KBM and crew chief Eric Phillips have won two of the last three NCWTS races at Nashville Superspeedway. Phillips called the shots in April 2010 and 2011 when owner-driver Kyle Busch took the No. 18 Toyota Tundra to Victory Lane. KBM General Manager and Director of Competition, Rick Ren, called the shots for Ron Hornaday, Jr. when he went to Victory Lane in 2009.

Driver Josh Richards on his Nashville Superspeedway Debut

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the truck and for my first race at Nashville. I learn so much each time I get in the truck and I am very fortunate to have such a great team behind me. While we were at Kentucky, Kyle and Rick talked to me about the truck, about the track and what to expect.

“I am really looking forward to working with (crew chief) Eric (Phillips) this weekend, he’s won at Nashville two of the last three times he’s been there, and I know the experience he and Rick bring to the race track will really be beneficial.

“I went to Iowa last week and watched the race with the team and from the spotter’s stand with (spotter) Mike (Swaim). It gave me an opportunity to see the race from another perspective and to see the race from a new angle. I’m ready to take what I learned at Kentucky and what I learned last week at Iowa to Nashville.”

Crew Chief Eric Phillips on Josh Richards First Start at Nashville Superspeedway

“Now that Josh has been in the truck once, I think he’ll be a little calmer at Nashville. I think obviously you get first race jitters and some of the rules and stuff he wasn’t aware of the first week, he knows now. It will be a tough day; we practice, qualify and race all in one day. It’s supposed to be really hot, and it’s a tricky racetrack. He’ll still have some challenges ahead, but so far he’s done a good job.

“Nashville is very line sensitive, you have to hit your marks every lap. I think that’s why you see Kyle and some of the Cup guys run so well there. Drivers have to be very disciplined and hit their marks every lap. With rookies, sometimes they spend a lot of time searching for where they need to be and don’t find a consistent line.

“Last week in Iowa Josh went up to the spotter stand with his spotter Mike Swaim. That experience should give him a new perspective, a completely different view of the racetrack. It’s always a good opportunity when a driver gets to see what the spotter sees, or when we get to go up there, it gives the driver a chance to see a lot more, understand sometimes when we’re trying to tell him something. It should help him to see just how the restarts are done and those kinds of things that he hasn’t been a part of since he’s new to the series.”

CHASSIS SELECTION

Primary Chassis: KBM-8: Chassis 8, KBM’s newest Toyota Tundra, has been raced only twice including a victory from the sixth starting position at Charlotte in May and a sixth place finish from the 11th starting position at Kansas in June, both driven by owner, Kyle Busch in 2011.

“Iowa Speedway is a very unique track; they did a great job designing it. It definitely has a short track feel, but it is round and big and you have to stay on the throttle to keep your momentum going — like you do on the mile-and-a-half tracks. The track has changed since the first time I raced there in 2007; the bump in turns 1 and 2 is getting worse and you have to be really good to get through there.”

BRIAN ICKLER ON EXPECTATIONS FOR COCA-COLA 200

“I’ve raced at Iowa several times and have a win there in the East Series. I have a good feel for what I need to go fast and have been very competitive no matter what series I’ve raced there. A little over a month ago, I was able to practice Carl Edward’s Nationwide car. I’ve been on the track already this year and that track time should help this weekend. We had a fast truck last year but got caught up in an accident and didn’t end up with the result we were capable of. I’m confident that Eric (Phillips) and the guys will provide me with a fast Toyota Tundra again this year. If we can avoid trouble, I think you’ll see us running up front and be in the mix at the end of the race.”

ERIC PHILLIPS ON PRIMARY TRUCK SELECTION

“This will be our third race with KBM-7. It was a brand new truck in February when we won at Phoenix and we also finished second with it at Martinsville. Iowa has a lot more banking then those two tracks, so our setup for this weekend is quite a bit different. We ran well last year with Brian at Iowa and two years ago I ran well there with Mike Skinner. I think we’ll have a good truck and we’re looking forward to having a strong finish with Brian.”

ERIC PHILLIPS ON BRIAN’S COMFORT LEVEL AT IOWA

“You definitely can tell that Brian is very comfortable at Iowa. Last year at the beginning of practice, we were a little bit off the pace and he knew exactly what he needed to make the truck go faster. We made a few changes and quickly got to where we needed to be. In comparison, at Texas a few weeks ago it took us a lot longer to get the truck where he wanted it because he didn’t have a lot of track time and wasn’t able to provide us with the same type of quality feedback.”

KYLE BUSCH HOPING TO INTRODUCE KENTUCKY FANS TO HIS VERSION OF THE TRIFECTA

With legendary Churchill Downs located just over an hour away, many fans attending NASCAR races at Kentucky Speedway are probably familiar with the term trifecta. Kyle Busch is hoping to introduce those fans to his version of the trifecta — the version which doesn’t include any second or third-place finishes. The 26-year old, who last August at Bristol Motor Speedway became the first driver to win races in NASCAR’s top three divisions in the same weekend, will begin his try at the Kentucky Speedway trifecta driving the No. 18 Dollar General Toyota in Thursday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series UNOH 225. The Las Vegas native, who figures to be one of the favorites in all three races this weekend, has visited victory lane at the 1.5-mile paved oval twice in his career, winning the ARCA Racing Series Channel 5 205 in 2004 and the NASCAR Nationwide Series Meijer 250 in 2005.

6-YEAR-OLD BRADLEY BUMPAS “RIDING SHOTGUN WITH KYLE BUSCH MOTORSPORTS”

Bumpas’ essay was chosen among submissions from children age 5-12 that live in areas surrounding Kentucky Speedway. The youngster’s name and picture will adorn the area above the passenger side window of Kyle Busch’s No. 18 Dollar General Toyota for Thursday’s UNOH 225.

“Any time that NASCAR has a tripleheader at the same truck, you know that I have my eyes on winning all three races. With the Sprint Cup Series racing at Kentucky for the first time, it gives me another shot at a trifecta. I’ve had some success at Kentucky in the past — I’ve won in both the ARCA and Nationwide Series. Last year the Dollar General Tundra was the dominant truck for most of the night until the race was decided by fuel strategy. I think we’ll have a good shot at getting the weekend started with a win in the truck and been one of the contenders in both the Nationwide race on Friday and the Cup race Saturday. It should be a great atmosphere, they have had great crowds for the truck and Nationwide Series races in the past and the Cup race is already a sellout. Hopefully, we can make it a memorable weekend!”

KYLE BUSCH ON RACING AT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY

“I couldn’t expect anything but some good, hard racing. Kentucky is a fast race track. There’s a lot of sweeping corners there so you’ve really got to keep your momentum going and it’s a big momentum-type race track. There’s a lot of throttle on time there. You carry a lot of good speed, but yet the place is really wide so you’ve got room for maneuverability. You can run the bottom. It seemed like you can run the middle. I don’t know how great the top will be, but we’ll have to see once we get there and what kind of tire we’re on.”

ERIC PHILLIPS ON WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON AT KBM SINCE LAST RACE

“Despite not racing in three weeks, it’s been pretty busy at KBM. We were able to get to the wind tunnel a couple times and worked on a few things to try and make our trucks better. We also went to The Milwaukee Mile for a two-day test with Josh Richards. Josh got to make some laps in a truck and I think it went very well. It should definitely help prepare him for his debut in the No. 15 Tundra at Kentucky and we’re looking forward to his debut in our No. 18 Tundra at Nashville.

ERIC PHILLIPS ON PRIMARY TRUCK SELECTION

“Our primary truck for this weekend will be KBM-4. It’s raced nine times and has won six races including Darlington and Nashville this year. Brian Ickler finished fourth with it at Texas. The truck came home from Texas with a little cosmetic damage, so we fixed it up and took it in the wind tunnel last week.”

Fuel Doctor and their revolutionary FD-47 fuel efficiency booster will be the primary sponsor on all of Gaunt Brothers Racing’s events through the summer, including races north of the border in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

“The relationship with Gaunt Brothers Racing, Triad Racing Technologies and Co-Pilott Motorsports Marketing is one we are really excited about,” said Mark Soffa, President and CEO, Fuel Doctor USA. “We like the varied racing schedule GBR has on tap for 2011 in the states and in Canada; it’s a great opportunity for us to showcase our brand and work strategically to increase Fuel Doctor’s FD-47 footprint at retail.”

Gaunt Brothers Racing is owned by NASCAR veteran Marty Gaunt, principal and CEO of Triad Racing Technologies and former General Manager of Red Bull Racing, Penske Racing and Bill Davis Racing in the Sprint Cup Series.

The goal for his team is to give young, talented drivers like Jason Bowles experience and exposure within the sport, while at the same time compete and win.

“Bringing in a high-profile sponsor like Fuel Doctor is a big boost for our team,” Gaunt said. “We’re going to run a handful of races this year with Jason and it’ll be great to have them on board as a partner. The Fuel Doctor FD-47 product is all about saving fuel and giving its consumers better gas mileage. We are about the same thing in racing, just at a much faster pace, so it’s a natural fit.”

Fuel Doctor Sr. VP of Motorsports, Tanya Hall sees GBR and Bowles as a perfect fit with the brand. “Partnering with a winning team like GBR and a NASCAR Champion like Jason in the Fuel Doctor Motorsports program only strengthens our position within the sport. We will also be announcing a limited schedule of Nationwide races with Bowles this season to add to our multi-series exposure. Our hope is to join both GBR and Bowles in future victories and championships and really promote the effectiveness of the Fuel Doctor FD-47 product.”

Jason Bowles

Bowles will be making his fifth career start at Iowa Speedway in the K&N Pro Series. In his last two starts he has produced top-5 results, so it’s a track he knows how to get around and be successful.

“The car looks awesome with the Fuel Doctor scheme,” said Bowles, a 10-time K&N Pro Series race-winner. “It’s always cool to have a new sponsor on the car and a new driving suit; rolling off the truck with this – I’m already convinced it’s worth two-tenths just in how good it looks! Plus, the Fuel Doctor FD-47 is a really innovative product, I’m looking forward to working with them and seeing their brand grow.

“Iowa is cool, it’s one of the most raceable tracks in the country. Last time I raced in there I finished second, so I’m going there to take the one step up.”

Practice for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series event in Iowa begins Saturday; check NASCAR.com/hometracks for all the updates on track.

About Fuel Doctor USA:

The Platinum’s FD-47 increases a vehicle’s miles per gallon (MPG) through power conditioning of the vehicle’s electrical systems. Conditioned and clean power allows the vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU), fuel injection and engine timing equipment to operate more efficiently. When the vehicles engine runs more efficiently it will require less fuel, produce more power and have reduced exhaust emissions (reduced CO2).

As a vehicle matures, the power systems tend to generate and experience more electrical noise or electrical interference. This noise can have many detrimental effects on the vehicle’s systems and decrease their efficiency. The FD-47 simply plugs into the outlet closest to the engine and the power conditioning qualities of the FD-47 help to reduce and remove this noise and to restore your vehicle’s efficiency.

Fuel Doctor USA products are available for purchase at Advance Auto Parts stores; Best Buys stores Nation wide and several other retailers or online at www.fueldoctorusa.com.

KYLE BUSCH EXCITED ABOUT RACING AT HIS FAVORITE TRACK

“Before I got started in NASCAR, I grew up watching what use to be The Winston and is now the All-Star race on television. That was always the most exciting race to watch and Charlotte quickly became my favorite track. Running under the lights is always a lot of fun. It’s a unique track. Turns one and two are far different from turns three and four and that seems to be a challenge for a lot of drivers. They don’t understand what it takes to be fast. I’ve been pretty successful in all three series. I’m looking forward to trying to get my first win in the All-Star race and trying to continue the tradition of winning in the truck and Nationwide Series car.”

KYLE BUSCH ON UNLOADING WITH A FAST TRUCK

“I think behind Rick and Eric’s leadership our guys do a really good job of preparing the trucks at the shop. They really pay attention to detail and put their best effort into building and maintaining quality Toyota Tundras. We unload with a fast truck and don’t have to spend practice searching for speed. When you can do that, it seems to make everything go a lot smoother.”

CREW CHIEF ERIC PHILLIPS ON PREPARING A NEW TOYOTA TUNDRA

“We’ll be racing a brand new Toyota Tundra Friday night, KBM-8. It was a tough decision not to bring KBM-4 which has six wins in eight races on the intermediate tracks, but if you keep racing the same stuff every weekend and you’re not trying to get better eventually that will catch up with you. This truck is similar to KBM-7 which was the new truck we won with at Phoenix in February. In building these new trucks, we really worked hard on making the trucks lighter and lowering the center of gravity height. We’re looking forward to getting Kyle’s feedback after practice on Friday and seeing how we did.”

KYLE BUSCH ON HAVING TRAXXAS BACK ON BOARD FOR THRRE RACES IN 2011

“To have Traxxas launch a 1/16 scale replica of the Kyle Busch No. 18 Traxxas Toyota is quite an honor. I grew up an R/C vehicle enthusiast and even worked in a hobby store as a teenager. When I’m not involved in something related to my NASCAR racing, you can usually find me doing something with my R/C vehicles. Whether it’s racing them competitively, racing fans at a Traxxas appearance or just driving my Kyle Busch Slash Model to relieve some stress at the track, it continues to be my favorite hobby. Our partnership got off to a great start in 2010 and we’re excited to have them back this season. Not many sponsors can say that they’ve won every race. I look forward to trying to keep the winning streak alive in our first Traxxas-sponsored race Friday at Dover.”

KYLE BUSCH TARGETS A TRIPLE-WIN WEEKEND

“The first trip to Dover is one that I have targeted as a possible triple-win weekend. The concrete surface is very slick. Some drivers don’t like the concrete feel one bit; other drivers like it. For me, I enjoy going to Dover, Nashville and Bristol. They are all fun places to race because they are challenging and other drivers don’t necessarily get it. The race tracks are slick and having the right mindset going into those races can give you an advantage over the guys that aren’t looking forward to racing there. I’ve been very successful in all three series at Dover. Eric and the guys know how to setup the truck for this race. We had a dominant truck there last year but had an issue with the fuel pump and didn’t seal the deal. We really want to redeem ourselves and win it is this year.”

CREW CHIEF ERIC PHILLIPS ON PRIMARY TRUCK SELECTION

“We’re taking X-128, which is the same Tundra that Kyle ran at Dover last year and the setup on the truck is almost identical as well. We had a truck that was pretty dominant all weekend. Kyle had a pretty good lead at the end of the race until a problem with the fuel pump came about with a few laps to go. We learned a few things in last year’s race that we implemented on our package this year that we feel will help out. The truck went to the seven-post rig last Friday and we found a few more little things that may help. I think that we should be really strong again and hopefully redeem ourselves. I really want one of those “Marvin the Monster” trophies.”

KYLE BUSCH MOTORSPORTS CARRYING STRONG NASHVILLE PRESENCE

Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) will be carrying a strong Nashville presence on Friday night at Nashville Superspeedway. KBM returns to the sight of its first-ever NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win once again sponsored by Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based Dollar General. Their famous yellow and black paint scheme adorns the No. 18 for the third time this season as part of an eight-race sponsorship. In addition, 9-year old Dalton Griffin of Spring Hill, Tenn. will have his name and picture on a decal above the passenger side door of Kyle Busch’s. Toyota Tundra. Griffin was the winner of the “Riding Shotgun With Kyle Busch Motorsports” essay contest for children in the Greater Nashville Area.

KBM HEADS TO THE MUSIC CITY LOOKING FOR ANOTHER NO. 1 HIT FROM ITS LEAD TOYOTA

Just 29 races into its history in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Kyle Busch Motorsports’ resume already features an owners’ championship and 10 victories. Of the 10 wins, chassis KBM-4 has been the Toyota Tundra parked in Victory Lane five times. Built for intermediate tracks, the truck was an immediate hit winning its debut at last year’s May race at Charlotte Motor Speedway with owner/driver Kyle Busch behind the wheel. Busch drove the truck four more times in 2010, registering victories at Chicagoland, Texas and Homestead-Miami. Busch also had the dominant truck at Kentucky before being relegated to a seventh-place finish when the race was decided by fuel strategy. Kasey Kahne drove KBM-4 at Darlington earlier this season, dominating the field en route to his third victory in four career Truck Series starts. Kahne also drove the truck to a second-place finish last July at Pocono.

KYLE BUSCH NCWTS @ NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY

· In his first NCWTS start at Nashville Superspeedway scored a perfect driver rating of 150.0, capturing the pole and leading 131 of the 150 laps en route to victory in the 2010 Nashville 200 (4/2/10)

KYLE BUSCH 2011 NCWTS

“Dollar General is headquartered in nearby Goodlettsville, Tennessee; so I’ll be headed over to Nashville the middle of the week for some events that are taking place before we get on the track on Friday. They have a big event for employees at their headquarters on Thursday and I look forward to being able to put faces with the names of a few people that I’ve dealt with but haven’t met in person yet. Our first truck series win at KBM came last year at the April Nashville race, so going back brings back great memories. It also happened to be the first time we had Dollar General on the truck, so winning at their home track made it extra special. A repeat performance would be a great way to end an exciting week for KBM and Dollar General.”

KYLE BUSCH ON NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY

“KBM registered two top-10 finishes in Nashville last year. I won the April race and Brian Ickler finished eighth in the August race. We are going back this year with a setup that we know works. The concrete at Nashville is a little tricky and your truck has to be set up a little bit different than it is for a typical asphalt track. Although it is a mile- and- a- third, it has a short track feel to it. You reach some high speeds off the corners and down the straightaways. Then as you approach the corner, you have to use the brakes to get the truck back underneath you and keep it underneath you.”

CREW CHIEF ERIC PHILLIPS ON CHALLENGE OF ONE-DAY SHOW

“Probably the biggest challenge on Friday is that we practice in the morning, qualify in the late afternoon and then race at night. It’s that time of the year when the weather is starting to get warmer, so the temperature will fluctuate throughout the day. During morning practice, you have to keep in the back of your mind what the truck is going to do at night during the race when the track is cooler.”

PHILLIPS ON KBM’S STRONG START TO THE 2011 SEASON

“We had some changes in personnel this off season, so I’m very pleased with how well we’ve ran to start the season. After you win a championship, especially in your first year, you don’t want to get content. We really emphasized to all of our guys over the winter that we needed to keep working hard. I think how well we’ve performed early this season just proves that everyone at KBM is still working hard to make our trucks better every week.”

In 2010, Kyle Busch Motorsports became the first team since the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series originated in 1995 to win the owners’ championship in its inaugural season. KBM begins defense of their title Friday night in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona International Speedway.
12-YEAR OLD KYLE SAVOIE “RIDING SHOTGUN”

ON NO. 18 DOLLAR GENERAL TOYOTA TUNDRA

A motivational letter that Kyle Busch received during the off season from Kyle Savoie (sa-VOY), a 12-year old fan from Groveland, Fla., has inspired Busch to develop a program that will recognize children for experiences and achievements that had a positive effect on their lives. In addition to recognizing Savoie, the “Riding Shotgun with Kyle Busch Motorsports” essay contest will recognize one child in 10 predetermined race markets on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series circuit during the 2011 season. To honor Savoie, a special decal with his name and a 2.5″ x 3.5″ photo of him adorns the area above the passenger side door of Busch’s No. 18 Dollar General Toyota Tundra this week. The ten winners of the essay contest will receive the same honor.

KYLE BUSCH NCWTS @ DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

· 0.002 margin of victory in the Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega Superspeedway on October 30, 2010 was the closest in NCWTS history

KYLE BUSCH MOTORSPORTS NO. 18 TOYOTA TUNDRA 2010

“With eight wins and an owners’ championship in our first season, we set the bar for success pretty high. The competition in the truck series is going to be much tougher this season, but we definitely feel like we have room for improvement. When you combine Toyota’s unparalleled manufacturer support to its teams with evolving partnerships with Dollar General, Flexco, M&M’s, and several other great companies, the sky is the limit for this team!”

KYLE BUSCH ON DAYTONA’S NEW SURFACE

“The new pavement has made the track really smooth. It has a lot of grip which makes it very similar to Talladega. The Truck Series races at Talladega are always great races, so I think Friday night’s race at Daytona will be very exciting.”

KYLE BUSCH TALKS DAYTONA STRATEGY

“Racing at Daytona reminds me of a chess match. In practice we’ll try to learn how the trucks move around. We’ll be experimenting with other trucks to see who can push us to the front and who we can push to the front. In the beginning of the race we’ll do the same thing. Winning at Daytona is about being in the right place at the right time. It’s about what line you’re in at a certain time and being able to work your way to the front. In the closing laps, hopefully the No. 18 Dollar General Toyota will be in one piece and we can race for the win.”

CREW CHIEF ERIC PHILLIPS ON KYLE ALREADY RACING ON NEW SURFACE

“Some people don’t think the additional track time is important, but I do. Kyle’s already been on the new surface at Daytona and already knows what he needs to run strong on Friday night. He’ll be able to help us make educated decisions and that will be very helpful.”

CREW CHIEF ERIC PHILLIPS ON PRIMARY TRUCK SELECTION

“Our primary truck is F30. It’s the truck that we won with at Talladega in October and we also took it to Daytona last year. The truck was really strong in practice last year at Daytona; unfortunately we were involved in a wreck on the first lap of the race. We worked on it over the winter and we’re confident that it’ll be even better this time around. We’re hopeful that the truck will produce the same result that it did at Talladega!”

Bowles will drive the No. 75 Rusty Wallace Racing Experience Toyota Camry in a win or bust showdown effort with teammate Steve Wallace.

“Like everyone, we’re here to win, that’s it, ” said Bowles, a three-time K&N winner at Irwindale Speedway. “The Showdown brings all the best out of the woodworks and we just go at it. Our plan is to be in that mix with Steve (Wallace) and open 2011 with a big win.”

Gaunt Brothers Racing (GBR) competed last season in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, finishing with 3 top-5 and 6 top-10 finishes, including 2nd and 3rd-place finishes with Bowles behind the wheel at Mosport and Toronto. Entering the Toyota All-Star Showdown brings GBR south of the Canadian border for the first time and will be the first of a handful of events the team plans to run in the states as a supplement to its Canadian schedule in 2011.

“Rusty and I started talking about grass roots racing and I told him we wanted to do some K&N races with GBR in 2011, next thing I know we’re forming a joint effort to run the Showdown with Steve and Jason,” said team owner Marty Gaunt. “RWI and GBR are working together, sharing information and resources – we’re excited, it’s a big stage for us at the Showdown in Toyota’s back yard. Nothing’s easy in this sport and this race isn’t any different. The winner take-all no points format makes for a great race – our plan is to have Jason and Steve there at the end hanging it out for a win.”

GBR’s No.75 Toyota Camry will sport a Rusty Wallace Racing Experience (RWRE) livery which operates a few miles from Irwindale Speedway at the AAA Speedway in Fontana. RWRE features 100% authentic NASCAR COT stock cars with 800hp Triad Racing Technologies Toyota engines.
