The busy evening will serve as a precursor to the following day’s Centennial Indianapolis 500 a few miles down the road at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and also will include races for Star Mazda, the next step on the Mazda Road to Indy after USF2000, and USAC Midgets.

After the first four rounds of the season were held on a permanent road course at Sebring International Raceway, Fla., and a temporary street circuit in St. Petersburg, Fla., this weekend’s 75-lap race will give the USF2000 competitors an opportunity to compete on an oval – some of them for the very first time.

“I’m really looking forward to the ‘Night Before the 500,’” said championship points leader Petri Suvanto. “My team, Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing, won this race last year with Patrick McKenna so I know they will give me a good car.”

The 18-year-old former karting star from Nurmo, Finland, has finished on the podium in every race so far this season and unofficially posted the fastest time in his very first visit to an oval for a series test at Lucas Oil Raceway on May 7 – an impressive outing where competitors turned over 2500+ laps with only one incident.

“The conditions were quite tricky because it was raining on and off and it was windy but I was happy,” said Suvanto. “Obviously, ovals are a big part of racing in America, so it was a relief that I was able to feel comfortable and get used to the whole thing quite quickly. It took me only one or two sessions to get up to speed. We had lots of cars on the track during the test so I had some good experience of overtaking and getting around the traffic. I’m not too worried; I’m actually quite confident about it.”

Among his rivals next weekend will be teammate Shannon McIntosh. The 21-year-old who hails originally from Miamisburg, Ohio, has competed on ovals for more than 15 years before setting her sights on the Mazda Road to Indy ladder system and enrolling in the multi-discipline USF2000 series this year.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on an oval,” said McIntosh. “I know that an oval in the USF2000 car is going to be a new experience, with the downforce and ability to carry more speed through the corner, and I’m excited to continue to learn and progress. Knowing that Cape Motorsports took the win at ‘The Night Before the 500′ last year gives me confidence that we’ll have a great program for Lucas Oil Raceway.”

While Suvanto leads the point standings, he does so by a scant two-point margin over 17-year-old Spencer Pigot, who also has finished on the podium at each of the first four races in the No. 8 MAZDASPEED/Skip Barber entry. Pigot’s Andretti Autosport teammate Zach Veach, 16, from Stockdale, Ohio, who drives the No. 7 Team Zakosi Data Backup Van Diemen, also has high hopes after winning the opening race of the season at Sebring and finishing an impressive fourth in last year’s “Night Before the 500″ feature.

“I’ve really been more of an oval guy than a road course guy,” says Veach, who added a fifth-place finish on the Iowa Speedway oval during his rookie campaign in 2010. “It’s going to be a fun race; we’ve got a lot of good drivers and really close times.”

Other front-runners will include Sebring race winner Luke Ellery (No. 85 Melbourne IT/Luke-Ellery.com/Red Line Oil Van Diemen); JDC MotorSports teammate Juan Piedrahita, from Mexico City, in the No. 19 Petrosur/GFK Motors/Montopharma/Colombia es pasion/Red Line Oil entry; former British Formula Ford Champion Wayne Boyd (No. 4 DHL/Belardi Auto Racing Van Diemen); and young Chicagoan Timmy Megenbier (No. 17 Sick Tea/Rahal Foods/Caputo/Wiscin Corp Van Diemen).

The USF2000 cars will take to the 0.686-mile oval for official practice on Friday evening, May 27, then return for a full day of activity on Saturday. The gates will open to the public at 1:30 pm, with F2000 qualifying set for 3:30 pm. The 75-lap race will start at 7:15 pm and will be followed by the Star Mazda and USAC Midget features.

About Mazda: On any given weekend, there are more Mazdas on the road-race tracks of America than any other brand of vehicle.
Wilson, who currently competes in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series (NWAAS) at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway, will be one of several speakers on-hand to discuss his climb up the ladder and how driver development on and off the track has proven to be beneficial to him.

In the fall of 2010, Wilson was one of twelve drivers from across the country who participated in Richard Petty’s Driver Search – a unique four day training camp and competition which included stops at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, Concord (N.C.) Speedway and a road-course at Carolina (S.C.) Motorsports Park. Wilson and his fellow drivers took the track in High Performance Karts, USAC Midgets, a NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) stock cars, completing 10-modules which, using high-tech digital scoring systems, ultimately determines the “Top Driver”.

Wilson also worked with an instruction staff that included racing icon Ken Schrader, Sprint Cup driver Marcos Ambrose, nine-time ARCA champion Frank Kimmel, legendary crew chief Dale Inman, NASCAR media personality and former driver Kyle Petty, ESPN track reporter Jamie Little and Miss Sprint Cup Monica Palumbo on a variety of topics that surround the territories of being a professional race-car driver.

Through the trial and tribulations, Wilson outdueled his other competitors awarding him a shot to qualify in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at the historic Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway. Having never sat in an ARCA car before tackling the track nicknamed “The Rock”, it was easy to see why Wilson beat out his competitors.

After starting 19th, Wilson in the No. 15 Richard Petty’s Driver Search Dodge Charger kept his nose clean, earned the respect of his competitors and took the checkered flag in a respectable and noteworthy 14th position.

Richard Petty and Richard Petty’s Driver Search II Winner Ryan Wilson

“I’m very honored and humbled about being asked to speak about my career and what I’ve learned through the Richard Petty’s Driver Search,” said Wilson. “It was an incredible opportunity and it introduced me to a lot of different areas of the racing scene that I had never had the chance to experience before. I’m thankful to everyone at Petty Holdings and Performance PR Plus for the opportunity to attend.”

The driver of the No. 12 Randolph Bank Toyota Camry in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series is preparing for what he is expecting to be a busy but also a winning 2011 racing season.

“We’re going to continue to run at Caraway, but we’re also going to run a couple races in ARCA,” sounded Wilson. “It’s our goal to go and try to win a championship at Caraway but also begin my advancement to the heavier stock cars through the ARCA Racing Series. It’s a great series and I enjoyed myself immensely at Rockingham. I’m looking forward to this year and I cannot continue to thank everyone from my team, my family, my friends and our marketing partners for their support in Ryan Wilson Motorsports.”

In addition to racing at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway and a limited ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule, Wilson will also compete in Late Model stock car events at Ace (N.C.) Speedway and other selected Late Model contests.

Stay tuned for a newly-designed Ryan Wilson Motorsports website. However, in the meantime for more input on Ryan Wilson and his organization, please visit RyanWilsonMotorsports.com.

“I’m really happy to be working with Zach again in the USF2000 series. Since coming on board with the team earlier this year, he has shown a lot of maturity and growth in his driving skills. We look forward to working with him for another successful season.”

ZACH VEACH, DRIVER

“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with this great team and be a part of the ‘Road To Indy’ program again next year. I can’t describe what an honor it is to be calling Andretti Autosport home again in 2011. The team did a outstanding job in USF2000 this past year and it was a great learning platform for me. I plan to maximize what I’ve gained from 2010 during the Winter Fest, and hopefully carry that momentum into the 2011 season. I want to thank Michael Andretti for giving me an opportunity of a lifetime again.”

For the next two years Fisher [Dave] coached and developed Veach’s talent, as he progressed through karting and then to Formula BMW.

In addition to his racing, Veach is an advocate for safer driving in conjunction with Oprah Winfrey’s “No Phone Zone” and is the national spokesperson for FocusDriven, an advocacy group for victims of motor vehicle crashes involving drivers using their cell phones. September 17, 2010 – Twelve racers from eight states, Canada, and Barbados descended upon the Charlotte area this week to display their racing talents, but Richard Petty only needed to look a few miles away to find his guy.

Ryan Wilson, an eighteen year-old late model racer from Randleman, NC, was named “Top Driver” of Richard Petty’s Driver Search II, following four days of intense competition at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord Speedway, and Carolina Motorsports Park.

Wilson’s performance earned him the opportunity to race the No. 41 Richard Petty’s Driver Search Dodge in the upcoming “American 200” ARCA Racing Series event at historic Rockingham Speedway on October 9th, 2010. His car, crew, and equipment will be provided by Petty Holdings LLC. “I can’t believe this,” said Wilson. “For a kid who grew up just down the road from Level Cross, it’s a dream come true to have the opportunity to race one of Richard Petty’s cars.”

I’m really glad for him and his family.”

Richard Petty’s Driver Search, a unique training camp and competition for aspiring race car drivers looking for an opportunity to advance their careers, was designed to focus on the core skill sets necessary for success at the highest levels in motorsports. (November 5, 2009) – Kevin Conway and ExtenZe Racing announced today that they will attempt to run all three NASCAR national series races – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series (# 26 ExtenZe Chevrolet) and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (# 71 ExtenZe Chevrolet) – at Phoenix International Raceway next weekend. The NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup cars will be available for photos on Saturday, November 7th at 7:45 a.m. CST on the frontstretch at Texas Motor Speedway.

Conway has never raced at Phoenix International Raceway, much less competed in NASCAR’s top three divisions in one weekend, but he is set to attempt to qualify for his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck Series debut at the one-mile oval. No driver in NASCAR history has ever attempted this feat.

“I’ve never been accused of doing things normally,” said Conway. “To make my Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck Series debut at a track that I have never even seen is pretty ambitious but I am excited to have this opportunity with ExtenZe. For ExtenZe Racing to pull this together in such a short amount of time is nothing short of a miracle. Everyone on this ExtenZe team is pumped to give it our best shot in Phoenix.”

ExtenZe will appear as Conway’s primary sponsor in all three races. Together they will attempt to compete in 850 miles of racing at Phoenix International Raceway.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Lucas Oil 150 will be televised live on Friday, Nov. 13 beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST on SPEED. The NASCAR Nationwide Series Able Body Labor 200 will follow on Saturday, Nov. 14 on ESPN2 at 4:00 EST with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rounding up the weekend with Sunday’s Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 presented by Pennzoil on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. EST on ABC.

August 28, 2009

· This weekend’s race at Chicagoland Speedway will mark Brad Sweet’s second career ARCA RE/MAX Series start. He made his debut at Kentucky Speedway in the No. 90 Great Clips Toyota Camry for Stringer Motorsports, starting eighth and finishing 16th.

· Sweet is a development driver for Kasey Kahne Racing and has made a name for himself racing USAC Midgets and Sprint cars over the last couple of years. He has logged wins at some of the most prestigious USAC events including the Belleville Midget Nationals, the Knoxville Midget Nationals and the Sprint Car “Four Crown Nationals” at Eldora Speedway. Most recently, Sweet most recently captured a win at Salem Speedway, breaking Ryan Newman’s 30-lap USAC Midget track record.

Sweet Looking Forward to Racing at Chicagoland Speedway

I’m looking forward to climbing back in the Great Clips Toyota this weekend and seeing what we can do. I have one race already under my belt with this team and I feel good about what we accomplished on that first weekend. I expect an even better showing here at Chicagoland Speedway and am looking for a strong top-10 finish. If we can run a competitive race, stay out of trouble and finish on the lead lap we should have no problems doing that.”

Crew Chief, Randy Nelson, on Expectations for This Weekend

“We look forward to having Brad back in the Great Clips Toyota this weekend. I think we got off to a good start in Kentucky a few weeks ago and I feel like we will be able to build upon that momentum. We will work hard during practice to help Brad find the comfort level in the car that he needs to run a good, solid race on Friday.”

What’s Up Next for Brad?

- Sweet will next compete in the ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Rockingham Speedway on October 11th.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to drive for RAB Racing,” stated Hessert. “The reputation and dedication to excellence that this team has is something that I look forward to becoming a part of. Just spending some time at the shop over the last two weeks and watching the team prepare the cars that I’m going to drive makes me very confident before I even hit the track.”

Hessert, a veteran of the USAR Racing Series, USAC Sprints and USAC Midgets completed his first full season of ARCA RE/MAX Series racing in 2008; finishing eighth in the overall driver point standings.
“Currently I sit 9th in the series standings, 495 points outside the lead but it is not impossible,” continued Hessert. “We are going to fight hard to make up as much ground as we can. It is a realistic goal to get back into the top five before the end of the season, and my main focus will be on winning a race or two before the end of the 09’ season.”

Before heading to the Hawkeye State for the Prairie Meadows 200, Hessert and his No. 09 team are taking part in the open ARCA test at Kentucky Speedway today in preparation for the July 18th Click It Or Ticket Buckle-Up Kentucky 150.

“I feel like this Kentucky test is a great opportunity for the program to show how competitive we can be,” said Tom. As a team we are looking for competitive finishes right out of the box.”

On track activity at Kentucky Speedway is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time today.

The Prairie Meadows 200 from Iowa Speedway is the 10th of 21 events on the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. Hessert finished 11th at the .875-mile oval in 2008.
