The 18-year-old rookie returns to the seat of the No. 59 St. Jude Children’s Hospital Toyota for X-Team Racing. Jerry Babb will serve as the crew chief.
Quote from Alex Bowman … “Columbus is a track I’ve raced at twice in a Midget car. For us, it will be a lot like Langley (Speedway in Virginia) – a flat, big circle without much straightaway. We’ll actually take a similar package to what we had at Langley. We have to qualify well and just survive.”
Most Recent Race … The Tucson, Arizona native qualified 19th and finished sixth in the New England 125 last Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. It was Bowman’s first visit to the “Magic Mile” in Loudon, New Hampshire, a stop that he insisted was beneficial.
“It was a solid day for us,” said Bowman. “We learned a bunch coming up through the field. The track was a lot of fun – lots of different grooves – and it was definitely good to get some big track experience. It was cool to see aero play such a big factor. I’m sure I’ll like getting onto some bigger race tracks in the near future.”
Standings Update … Bowman moved up to sixth-place in the K&N Pro Series East standings following New Hampshire. The highest-positioned rookie, Bowman has earned top-five finishes at Greenville-Pickens Speedway (S.C.) and Richmond International Raceway (Va.). He is three points out of fifth-place and 85 points out of fourth.
Alex, the Crew Chief … A former USAC National Midget racer, Bowman will share some of his open-wheel expertise this coming Monday, acting as crew chief to Jared Irvan, the 12-year-old son of former NASCAR great Ernie Irvan in the USAC Ford Focus Series race at East Lincoln Speedway (N.C.).
