HAMLIN QUOTES: TALK ABOUT YOUR RUN THIS AFTERNOON. “Well I mean it was a fight. You can kind of maybe contribute it to a bad qualifying but our car was really fast at the beginning. I mean just unbelievably fast at the beginning and I knew we had a car that could contend for a win and obviously when we got in that incident on the back straightaway it tore up the front and knocked the toe out and obviously the car didn’t drive as well for the rest of the day. We just tried to patch it and work on it the best we could but just wasn’t the car that it was the beginning. It’s just part of racing. There’s a lot of circumstances in which where we had an opportunity to win the championship. By the numbers fuel mileage was one contributor factor but it’s part of racing. Strategy is part of racing. It’s not just about the fastest car and best dr iver. There’s a whole lot that goes into the sport and that’s what makes it as good as it is. We’ll just keep fighting and get ‘em next year.” DOES THE FACT THAT JIMMIE FINISHED SECOND TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF THE WOULDA COULDA SHOULDA OUT OF WHAT HAPPENED TODAY? “Not really. I felt like as soon as we dropped the green I thought we could win the race but obviously them not having to back into it is good. We all had to race the entire race. Everyone was racing extremely hard. It doesn’t satisfy you.” YOU’VE SHOWN ALL YEA R THAT EVERY TIME YOU GET BACKED INTO A CORNER IT’S FUEL FOR YOU. ARE YOU ALREADY USING THIS AS MOTOVATION FOR NEXT YEAR? “Anybody would. There’s 42 other race teams that have got work to do so for me it is. Coming this close it tough, especially of all the little things that could have changed the outcome of this Chase in one lap. That part of it hurts but you’ve got to get better at all aspects and I feel like that’s where that team, the 48 team, has been strong over the last few years. They really have no weak spots. We know there are several parts of our car, there several parts of our team that we can improve on and that’s a good thing. As competitive as what we are right now I know I need to get better in qualifying. I said that last year at this time and there’s lots of things that I could do to be better and there’s lot of things we can do as a team to be better. My focus when Monday comes around is what I need to do to execute all those things.”

BURTON QUOTES: YOU HAD A VERY GOOD CAR ALL DAY BUT FADED A BIT AT THE END. “The right rear tire is just killed on it. It didn’t accept the speed of that last run and for whatever reason it just killed the right rear tire. We didn’t have that problem all year and happened on the last run. Really disappointing. We obviously had a fast race car. We just weren’t as good as we needed to be at the end. We put a great effort out there. Hard to be believe that you can finish ninth with a car that good [smiles].”COMMENT ON WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH KEVIN HARVICK. IS THAT JUST SOME AGGRESSIVE MARTINSVILLE RACING? “I don’t know. I don’t understand what he was upset about. I have no clue what he could possibly be upset about. I cleared him and turned to the bottom the same way he cleared me when he passed me on the restart and turned to the bottom. It’s Martinsville. That’s what you do. I’m sure its heat of the moment. I’m sure he’s racing for a championship and he’s up on the edge and I’m sure it’s all that ‘cause I didn’t do anything wrong.”

COMMENT ON THE YOUR WARNING FROM NASCAR ON BRAKE-CHECKING ON THE RESTARTS. “Well it’s their job to police the sport and make sure we’re all following the rules. I wasn’t brake-checking. I never once touched the brakes leaving Turn 4 but, you know, they felt like I was so it was their job to police the sport. Everybody was doing their job.”

THIS LOOKED LIKE THE HARDEST RACE THAT YOU’VE EVER DRIVEN. “I drive hard every week. I have this reputation of being a passive driver. I drive hard every week and I drove hard this week but I didn’t drive any harder this week than I normally do.”

WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE KROGER 200 NASCAR CAMPING WORLD SERIES RACE AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 23, 2010, PAGE 1.

Johnny Sauter led once for 49 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in today’s Kroger 200. Sauter captured the honor for the second time this season. In 18 short track races Sauter has now led three times for 192 laps. He has led four times in four races this season for a total of 175 laps.

Sauter posted 21st-place finish on the lead lap.

UNOFFICIALLY Sauter is third in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings, 88 points behind second-place Aric Almirola and 78 ahead of fourth-place Austin Dillon. He trails leader Todd Bodine by 370 points.

UNOFFICIALLY Ron Hornaday Jr. leads Elliott Sadler by one race (5-4) in the WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.

JOE SHEAR JR., CREW CHIEF, No. 13 SEALMASTER CHEVROLET: “This place is our Achilles heal. We always run really good here and something always happens. I don’t know if it’s me and the way I call races or we just have bad luck here. I just don’t know what it is. It’s hard to even pinpoint it because we run really good and we always come out of here out of the top-10. We’re disappointed. We had a good truck this week and we’re just disappointed that we’re tore up again and lost points.” WHAT HAPPENED WITH JUSTIN LOFTON? “Our bed top blew off and NASCAR was posting us [black flagged] and our spotter was trying to get to their spotter to let us know we had to pit and obviously he didn’t get the message. He just wasn’t using his head.” ARE THERE ANY POSITIVES YOU CAN TAKE FROM RUNNING WELL TODAY? “For our set up notebook, yes. For getting points out of here for next year, no. We’ve got to get better as a team.”

DID YOU KNOW? The driver leading the most laps in the 10 most recent fall races at Charlotte has now scored SEVEN top-10 finishes.

BUSCH QUOTES: “It was a really great race for us. The car was phenomenal all night, one of our best cars that we’ve ever had, being able to drive through people, get back towards the front and stuff at a difficult racetrack to pass at and everything. This was a great run, a surprising run. The runs that we’re supposed to have, the runs that we’re supposed to make happen and it was a great feeling there all up until about 20 to go when we got a caution and then got beat on the caution and then the ensuing laps until the end. Just very, very frustrating. I can’t say enough about all my guys and everybody that works and as hard as they work and do such a great job that they do it’s just very, very frustrating. I apologize to everybody at Joe Gibbs Racing for just not being able to bring it home tonight. Apparently just didn’t have the right adjustment in the car there at the end. Perfect example two nights in a row and didn’t quite find what it took here from last night into tonight.”ARE YOU MORE FRUSTRATED WITH THE CAUTION OR THE RESTART? “Both. I mean, I don’t know what the caution was for. Apparently there was a mouse that ran across the racetrack or something and then the restart, just trying to get going there. Jamie got a good restart and I don’t know if he got pushed from Jimmie or not but he had a good run, a good head of momentum getting into Turn 1 and then I got there and my car pushed up the racetrack and I back to the gas and it was too late. He was already gone so nothing I could do. Couldn’t
stay to his outside even.”

WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH YOUR THROTTLE EARLY IN THE RACE? “It was sticking for some reason. I’m not sure why. We have a cable drive system that I haven’t liked since I came to Joe Gibbs Racing. I don’t know what happened in the mechanism but something apparently got wedged in there for a while and I was able to work it free. It came back to normal so. Took it about 50 laps or so but got it back normal.”

(August 22, 2010) – Brad Coleman and Kyle Busch are teammates. Busch is arguably the hottest driver in NASCAR while Coleman continues to work for the opportunity to prove he can produce the same kind of results for Joe Gibbs Racing. The last time Coleman got in the driver’s seat he was setting up the car for Kyle to win at Iowa. Now he will take the 73 point lead and momentum Kyle and the No. 18 team have created to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the NAPA Auto Parts 200.

Coleman’s last road course outing was at Road America in June where he won the WIX Filter laps leader award and posted a sixth place finish. Busch took the same car to Watkins Glen two weeks ago and finished fifth. The 22 year-old believes the No. 18 car will also do well at Montreal.

“We’ve consistently run up front at Montreal and had some great races go bad when we were bit by others’ tough luck,” said Coleman. “I finished Top 10 there in my rookie season after being knocked out of the Top 5. I was running in the Top 5 last year as well until another driver knocked us out of the race. With a little luck, I know we can contend for a win and keep the No. 18 up front in owners’ points. Besides, any time you race with Jason Ratcliff as your crew chief you have a chance to win.”

In addition to his strong runs at Montreal, Coleman has repeatedly proven his prowess on the road courses with a Top 5 at Watkins Glen his rookie year in a JGR machine and another Top 10 at Watkins Glen in a Baker Curb race car. He was running Top 10 at Mexico City twice, only to be taken out by a broken transmission on one run and spun out from behind by another driver late in the 2008 race. In all, Coleman has been a known factor in every single road course race he has run under the NASCAR banner.

“I am not a “Road course specialist” insists Coleman, but I am highly capable of running up front every time I set four wheels on one. Road courses take a technical know-how of driving that in my opinion only the best drivers have. Being a great driver in NASCAR requires you to run well at the road courses as well as the ovals. You can’t be a top level NASCAR driver and be afraid of either type of track. You need to be good at all of them!”

While this will only be Coleman’s fifth race of the season, he has made the most of his limited opportunity by consistently qualifying and racing up front. He has two finishes of sixth, one of 13th when he was running Top 5 late in the race and was collected on someone’s missed shift on a restart, and ran into more tough luck in his last race at St. Louis when he was collected in his own teammate’s misfortune.

Coleman and Jason Ratcliff have history at Montreal

In 2007, the rookie was at Montreal for his first look at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. He was running in the Top 5 towards the end of the race when the field exploded in turn one, taking a number of cars out. Coleman’s Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 FedEx car was caught up in the melee and sat crumpled up in the pits with one lap to go. The team told him it was a great run but time to shut it down and call it a day.

“I’ll never forget that day,” noted Coleman. “We had a Top 5 run going, got caught up in someone else’s mess, and then came back to the pits with the hood folded up in half so I could not see. Jason (Ratcliff/Crew Chief) said it was a great run but we were done. I asked them to hammer on it and get me back out before the field came around. They did a great job and we went back out 13th as they dropped the green-white-checkered. It was a single file restart but I was able to pass five cars on the last lap to bring home a Top 10 finish.”

Coleman will be driving the No. 18 SafeWay Driving Centers Toyota. SafeWay is a Houston, TX based driving school where Texas teenagers go to train for their driver license.

About SafeWay Driving Centers
