WIX® Filters, a member of the Affinia Group family of brands, announced today plans to be the primary sponsor for Ryan Newman of Stewart-Haas Racing for four races during the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™ season.

WIX Filters will debut its primary sponsorship of Newman and his No. 39 Chevrolet at the season kick-off Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 18. WIX will be Newman’s primary sponsor for three additional NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events this year – at Phoenix International Raceway on March 4, Darlington Raceway on May 12 and Michigan International Speedway on Aug. 19.

“Ryan Newman, Stewart-Haas Racing and their fans bring tremendous enthusiasm and excitement to the racing season,” said Mike Harvey, brand manager for WIX Filters. “We can’t wait to be onboard with them again in 2012. Our partnerships with Stewart-Haas Racing and Ryan have been some of our most successful in racing thanks to the support offered by the team and the way Ryan’s fans have embraced our brand.”

WIX has been the Official Filter for Stewart-Haas Racing since the team’s creation in 2009. In three starts with WIX Filters on the hood of the No. 39, Newman has three top-10 finishes – a sixth-place effort at Bristol Motor Speedway in August 2010, a third-place finish in last season’s Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway and a fifth-place effort at Michigan International Speedway in August 2011.

“I’m excited to have WIX Filters back as a partner in 2012,” said Newman. “They have a great support program, find cool ways to get fans involved and most importantly provide us with superior filters to protect our engines.”

WIX will chronicle race week events with photos, videos, interviews, giveaways and more through social media, including Facebook (www.facebook.com/wixfilters, Twitter (@wixfilters) and YouTube (www.youtube.com/thewixfilters).

(March 21, 2011) – Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is excited to announce that WIX Filters will join the team as the primary sponsor on the DRR machine piloted by Paul Tracy during the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. WIX, whose highly-engineered filtration products have become a staple in auto racing around the country, will unite with the team for the first time as the primary sponsor for the Indianapolis 500 as well as serve as an associate partner on the No. 22 car of Justin Wilson for the 2011 season.

“Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is extremely happy to welcome WIX Filters to the team for the Indianapolis 500 and for the 2011 season. We have worked hard to maintain a strong relationship with our sponsors and to build new ones. We couldn’t be happier to have WIX Filters on board with us and we look forward to growing with them in the future. We are also very excited to have Paul drive the WIX Filters car. He’s a great personality and driver and we believe he will be very competitive during the Indy 500,” commented Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Co-Owner, Robbie Buhl.

Since 1939, WIX has been an innovator in filtration products. WIX designs, manufactures and distributes products for automotive, diesel, agricultural, industrial and specialty filter markets. Its product line includes oil, air, cabin interior, fuel, coolant, transmission and hydraulic filters for automobiles, trucks and off-road equipment.

“WIX has a strong history of racing excellence, from dirt tracks and drag strips to super speedways, and it is with great anticipation that we join forces with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing for our first expedition into IndyCar racing,” said Jeff Blocher, vice president of sales for WIX Filters. “With this year marking the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, there could be no better time for WIX to make its debut into this exciting competition. We look forward to sharing the WIX brand with the millions of IndyCar Series fans around the globe.”

Piloting the DRR WIX Filters entry for the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 will be Paul Tracy. The Canadian was the sensible choice for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing as not only does he have experience on ovals and at the Indianapolis 500, over his entire career, he has competed in 273 IndyCar-type events. Tracy, the 2003 Champ Car World Series champion, will be competing with DRR for the 4th time.

Tracy, now in his 21st season, has had a storied career that has made him one of the top drivers in open-wheel racing and the ‘winning-est active driver’ in the Series to date. He is among the top-10 in almost every Champ Car career statistical category including wins, 31 (tied for seventh all-time), poles, 25 (ninth all-time), and laps led, 4,238 (sixth all-time).

Over the last 20 years, Tracy has earned 75 career podium performances, 102 top-five finishes and 144 top-10 showings in 273 starts (262 in Champ Car and 11 in IZOD IndyCar, tied for seventh all-time). In the 15 seasons in which Tracy has competed in over 80 percent of the races, he has finished in the top-10 in the championship standings 10 times including eight times in the top-five, four in the top-three and captured the championship in 2003.

“Obviously it feels great to be back with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing. It’s been a chaotic winter, but it’s good to have the deal stowed away with a competitive program lined up with WIX Filters and DRR for the Indianapolis 500. I’m really happy to have signed a deal with Dennis and Robbie. It’s great to be with a team like DRR, they have quality equipment and a solid engineering group with Larry Curry. It’s a relief to have this deal done from that standpoint. I’m super excited, and want to thank WIX Filters for placing confidence in me as their brand ambassador at the Indy 500,” commented Tracy.

Please stay tuned for more announcements to come in the following days. For more updates on the team, please visit www.dreyerreinboldracing.com.

About Dreyer & Reinbold Racing:

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is entering its 12th season of full-time competition in 2011, making it one of the longest-tenured teams in IZOD IndyCar Series competition. Current Co-Owners, Dennis Reinbold and Robbie Buhl, first teamed in full-time competition at the Walt Disney World Speedway in January of 2000. With Buhl behind the wheel, the two owners tasted victory in their debut race. The 2009 IZOD IndyCar Series season-opener, on the streets of St. Petersburg, marked Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s 200th series start. DRR now has over 270 starts to tuck under its belt and has qualified a total of 27 cars for the Indianapolis 500. In its history, the team has boasted a championship list of alumni drivers. Besides Buhl, the team has run Indianapolis 500 winners, Al Unser, Jr., Buddy Lazier, and Buddy Rice, along with IZOD IndyCar Series race winner, Ryan Briscoe. The team has one of the longest lines of heritage in American open-wheel racing and the Indianapolis 500 as Dennis Reinbold’s grandfather, “Pop” Dreyer, built leading roadsters that raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the 30s, 40s, and 50s.

Stewart-Haas Racing

KANNAPOLIS, N.C., (Jan. 18, 2011) – WIX Filters, a member of the Affinia Group family of brands, has joined Stewart-Haas Racing as the team’s official filter. The two-car NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team will use WIX Filters in Tony Stewart’s No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet Impala and Ryan Newman’s No. 39 U.S. Army/Tornados/Haas Automation Chevrolet Impala.

To kick off the partnership, WIX Filters will be the primary sponsor of Newman and the No. 39 team in the Feb. 12 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. The invitation-only event marks the start of the 2011 NASCAR season, and Newman earned his way into the non-points race by virtue of his 2008 Daytona 500 victory.

“Winning the 50th running of the Daytona 500 is my greatest achievement so far in NASCAR,” said Newman, the only college graduate driving full-time in the Sprint Cup Series, as he holds a vehicle structure engineering degree from Purdue University. “The opportunity to run the Shootout gives us more knowledge to make another run at a Daytona 500 victory. Having WIX Filters join us as a technical partner at Stewart-Haas Racing provides an immediate advantage, so it makes sense to start the season with them on board our No. 39 Chevy.”

WIX Filters will rejoin Newman and the No. 39 team as primary sponsor for the Aug. 21 Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, where Newman is a two-time Sprint Cup race victor and a one-time pole winner.

When not serving as a primary sponsor, WIX Filters will have brand identification beneath the hoods of both Stewart-Haas Racing entries and on the sleeve of Newman’s uniform.

HAMLIN QUOTES: TALK ABOUT YOUR RUN THIS AFTERNOON. “Well I mean it was a fight. You can kind of maybe contribute it to a bad qualifying but our car was really fast at the beginning. I mean just unbelievably fast at the beginning and I knew we had a car that could contend for a win and obviously when we got in that incident on the back straightaway it tore up the front and knocked the toe out and obviously the car didn’t drive as well for the rest of the day. We just tried to patch it and work on it the best we could but just wasn’t the car that it was the beginning. It’s just part of racing. There’s a lot of circumstances in which where we had an opportunity to win the championship. By the numbers fuel mileage was one contributor factor but it’s part of racing. Strategy is part of racing. It’s not just about the fastest car and best dr iver. There’s a whole lot that goes into the sport and that’s what makes it as good as it is. We’ll just keep fighting and get ‘em next year.” DOES THE FACT THAT JIMMIE FINISHED SECOND TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF THE WOULDA COULDA SHOULDA OUT OF WHAT HAPPENED TODAY? “Not really. I felt like as soon as we dropped the green I thought we could win the race but obviously them not having to back into it is good. We all had to race the entire race. Everyone was racing extremely hard. It doesn’t satisfy you.” YOU’VE SHOWN ALL YEA R THAT EVERY TIME YOU GET BACKED INTO A CORNER IT’S FUEL FOR YOU. ARE YOU ALREADY USING THIS AS MOTOVATION FOR NEXT YEAR? “Anybody would. There’s 42 other race teams that have got work to do so for me it is. Coming this close it tough, especially of all the little things that could have changed the outcome of this Chase in one lap. That part of it hurts but you’ve got to get better at all aspects and I feel like that’s where that team, the 48 team, has been strong over the last few years. They really have no weak spots. We know there are several parts of our car, there several parts of our team that we can improve on and that’s a good thing. As competitive as what we are right now I know I need to get better in qualifying. I said that last year at this time and there’s lots of things that I could do to be better and there’s lot of things we can do as a team to be better. My focus when Monday comes around is what I need to do to execute all those things.”

WIX Filters

Gastonia, N.C. (November 8, 2010) – One sweeping pass gave Denny Hamlin a win and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point lead at Texas Motor Speedway.

The nifty move by Hamlin happened on the final restart of the AAA Texas 500. With just two laps to go in the 334-lap race, Matt Kenseth slipped under Hamlin at the entrance to Turn 1 and briefly grabbed the lead. But Kenseth’s momentum carried him high off Turn 2, opening the door for Hamlin, who swept by Kenseth down the backstretch and into the lead. He beat Kenseth to the finish line by approximately five car lengths (officially measured at .488 seconds).

Cars equipped with WIX Filters, a member of the Affinia Group family of brands, claimed their FIFTH CONSECUTIVE victory and have won 24 times in 34 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (including the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400).

“I was able to side draft the 17 [Kenseth) enough on the front straightaway to keep beside him so where he couldn’t clear me off of two, and that was going to be very important,” Hamlin said. “But, when he cleared me in the middle of one and two, he did it by gassing up really aggressive and early and I knew it was going to be a hard time for him to exit the corner that way, and he obviously ran out of race track and it opened up the door for us to cross over.

“For me, it was great to win a race that way. I love racing for a win like that. Any driver will tell you if there’s one guy you’re going to trust underneath you, it’s going to be Matt. Obviously it’s great for him to have a good finish and obviously go for a win, but for me it was very gratifying to win a race that way.”

Hamlin owns a 33-point lead over Jimmie Johnson in the series championship standings and is 59 ahead of third-place Kevin Harvick. He added that he won’t be conservative in the final two races of the season at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway and Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.

“You know, for me, I’m going to race Phoenix as if I’m 33 [points] behind to be honest with you,” Hamlin said. “There’s no comfortable margin going into Homestead because anything can happen. So for me, Phoenix being an up‑and‑down race track for me, I’ve got to really be focused on practice day to get what I need to give Mike [Ford, crew chief] the information that I need and just 100 percent stay focused is all I can do. But like I say, I’m not going to be conservative having the lead. I’m going to want to stretch that out before we get to Homestead. That’s pretty much my mindset.”

During the race Johnson’s crew chief, Chad Knaus, swapped his over the wall pit crew Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon. Hamlin was pitted next to Johnson and after the race Mike Ford, Hamlin’s crew chief, was asked about being an eyewitness to the crew substitution.

“We did see all that go on, saw them making mistakes, saw them studying us real hard, and when you put your focus on watching other people, you make mistakes, so I was glad to see that they are watching us and paying attention,” Ford said. “That means they are chasing. And they made mistakes in doing so.

“We played our game. I stayed focused on what we needed to do, and I feel like the ‑‑ you know, that’s possible going in, and you watch it, so I think it was kind of a desperation move. But it’s something that ‑‑ I won’t say that race team ‑‑ that Jimmie, Chad and Rick [Hendrick, car owner] needed to do if they wanted to win a championship because they just took their team out of it. They removed their team. Their team got them to this point and they pulled them out, so this is more about trying to win a championship for the company and not the team.”

Hamlin scored his eighth victory of the 2010 season, including a sweep of both races at Texas. He won for the 16th time in 185 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races and won for the second time in 11 starts at Texas.

“It’s unbelievable to me to have eight wins in one season,” Hamlin said. “This is absolutely unbelievable. To do it in a timely fashion that we have and beat those guys. I had to drive my heart out to do it. That was the first win I’ve gotten other than maybe Martinsville where I had to just drive the crap out of the car in the last few laps.”

There were 33 lead changes among 13 drivers in a race that took 3 hours, 34 minutes and one second to complete. There were nine cautions for 40 laps, pushing the event’s average speed to 140.456 mph.

Superspeedway.

Bowyer was leading teammate Kevin Harvick on the final lap of the race when AJ Allmendinger and four other cars crashed on the frontstretch, bringing out the sixth caution of the race and giving the win to Bowyer.

Cars equipped with WIX Filters, a member of the Affinia Group family of brands, have won 23 times in 33 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (including the Daytona 500, and Brickyard 400) and swept the top six positions at the 2.66-mile speedway. Finishing third through sixth were Juan Pablo Montoya, David Reutimann, Joey Logano and Martin Truex Jr.

Bowyer and Harvick were wheel-to-wheel on the final lap of the race, with Montoya giving Bowyer a much needed push. The finish was so close that NASCAR officials spent several minutes reviewing data to confirm the race winner.

Meanwhile, Bowyer started celebrating on the frontstretch – before being declared the winner.

“Claim that baby before somebody else does,” Bowyer said with a laugh.

Bowyer called his first restrictor plate victory “unbelievable” and had high praise for Earnhardt Childress Racing engines.

“I want to thank ECR—all you guys back at the engine shop, you’re back on top,” Bowyer said. “I’m so proud of you guys. That was an ECR win right there. I want to thank Juan because I couldn’t have done it without him. I’m just so happy with everybody.”

Scott Miller, Bowyer’s interim crew chief, was pleased with his driver’s performance.

“Clint did a fantastic job of putting himself in a position to win,” Miler said. “We tested the waters a lot all day long to see what would work and what wouldn’t work. Fortunately some of the things he found during the race worked out for us there at the end.

“The key to everything today was having a fast racecar and him putting himself in the right position to be able to win the race. So it was just one of those days where everything lined up. Fortunately we’re sitting here talking to all of you.”

The race for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title tightened up at Talladega. Jimmie Johnson is the leader, 14 points ahead of second-place Denny Hamlin and 38 ahead of third-place Harvick. Richard Childress, car owner for both Harvick and Bowyer, said he likes Harvick’s chances in the final races at Texas Motor Speedway, Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway and Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway. The veteran car owner realizes what has to be done to win the championship.

“All three races Kevin Harvick is really good at,” Childress said. “In the same sense, so is Denny and Jimmie. Those are really good racetracks for all three teams. I think whoever can sit there and pull off some wins is going to be the team to win the championship. We have to give everything we got. Proud of our whole organization for putting us in this position.”

Bowyer won for the second time in 2010 and the first time in 10 races at Talladega. He claimed his fourth victory in 178 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races and claimed and led the race nine times for 19 laps. Richard Childress, Bowyer’s car owner, collected his 11th victory as an owner, the most among car owners.

There were 87 lead changes among 26 drivers, only one lead change short of tying the all-time record. Six cautions slowed the race for 19 laps, pushing Bowyer’s average speed to 163.618 mph. The official time of the race was 3 hours, 3 minutes and 23 seconds.

Denny Hamlin held off Mark Martin to win the TUMS Fast Relief 500 Sunday afternoon at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and closed to within six points of leader Jimmie Johnson in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship standings.

Cars equipped with WIX Filters, a member of the Affinia Group family of brands, have won 22 times in 32 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (including the Daytona 500, and Brickyard 400) plus claimed three of the top-five positions (third-place Kevin Harvick and fourth-place Kyle Busch) at Martinsville.

Hamlin started from the pole but fell to 15th-place just 50 laps into the 500-lap event due to excessive temperature buildup on the left rear tire. Mike Ford, Hamlin’s crew chief, decided against making drastic changes to the car.

“We saw a lot of buildup to the left rear, probably four times more than we normally see,” Ford said. “If it was the racecar making it do that we would see it again but we never saw it again all day, just very fortunate to not panic and lose the race right at the beginning.”

From there Hamlin fought his way back into contention. He worked his way into second-place by lap 200 and was never out of contention the rest of the way. He took the lead for the final time when he passed Kevin Harvick on lap 471 and didn’t look back, crossing the finish line 2.318 seconds ahead of runner-up Mark Martin.

“We just fought and fought and fought and kept working on it,” Hamlin said. “I kept trying to be patient. Our car was really good on long runs. We just never got them. We had so many cautions.”

Over the final 30 laps of the race Hamlin was praying the race would stay green. A few cars slowed late in the race, the victim of cut tires, but the yellow flag Hamlin fretted about didn’t wave, much to his amazement.

“I don’t know how we didn’t [have a caution],” Hamlin said. “I think the circumstances worked out. The guys who had cut tires late in the race, they were able to get down in time to get on pit road to not affect the race. I saw one of the cars look like he was starting to blow up. I was yelling at him to try to get him off the racetrack as soon as possible. Everyone was able to cut down and get onto pit road in a timely fashion.”

The margin between Hamlin and Johnson is the closest between first and second with four races to go in the Chase (2004-present). That fact doesn’t bother Hamlin, especially since the series moves to unpredictable Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway next weekend.

“I like being behind and chasing a guy,” Hamlin said. I do not like playing defense at all. To come here and play offense all day, going through adversity to get this win, it’s a huge boost going forward. I know we’ve been extremely strong at Talladega for the last two to three years so I’m pretty confident.”

Hamlin scored his third consecutive Martinsville victory and his fourth in 11 races at the .525-mile speedway. He collected his series-high seventh win of the season and posted his 13th top-five.

The race featured 24 lead changes among 12 drivers and took 3 hours, 40 minutes and 20 seconds to complete. Fifteen cautions slowed the pace for 90 laps dropping Hamlin’s average speed to 71.619 mph.

BURTON QUOTES: YOU HAD A VERY GOOD CAR ALL DAY BUT FADED A BIT AT THE END. “The right rear tire is just killed on it. It didn’t accept the speed of that last run and for whatever reason it just killed the right rear tire. We didn’t have that problem all year and happened on the last run. Really disappointing. We obviously had a fast race car. We just weren’t as good as we needed to be at the end. We put a great effort out there. Hard to be believe that you can finish ninth with a car that good [smiles].”COMMENT ON WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH KEVIN HARVICK. IS THAT JUST SOME AGGRESSIVE MARTINSVILLE RACING? “I don’t know. I don’t understand what he was upset about. I have no clue what he could possibly be upset about. I cleared him and turned to the bottom the same way he cleared me when he passed me on the restart and turned to the bottom. It’s Martinsville. That’s what you do. I’m sure its heat of the moment. I’m sure he’s racing for a championship and he’s up on the edge and I’m sure it’s all that ‘cause I didn’t do anything wrong.”

COMMENT ON THE YOUR WARNING FROM NASCAR ON BRAKE-CHECKING ON THE RESTARTS. “Well it’s their job to police the sport and make sure we’re all following the rules. I wasn’t brake-checking. I never once touched the brakes leaving Turn 4 but, you know, they felt like I was so it was their job to police the sport. Everybody was doing their job.”

THIS LOOKED LIKE THE HARDEST RACE THAT YOU’VE EVER DRIVEN. “I drive hard every week. I have this reputation of being a passive driver. I drive hard every week and I drove hard this week but I didn’t drive any harder this week than I normally do.”

Johnny Sauter led once for 49 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in today’s Kroger 200. Sauter captured the honor for the second time this season. In 18 short track races Sauter has now led three times for 192 laps. He has led four times in four races this season for a total of 175 laps.

Sauter posted 21st-place finish on the lead lap.

UNOFFICIALLY Sauter is third in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings, 88 points behind second-place Aric Almirola and 78 ahead of fourth-place Austin Dillon. He trails leader Todd Bodine by 370 points.

UNOFFICIALLY Ron Hornaday Jr. leads Elliott Sadler by one race (5-4) in the WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.

JOE SHEAR JR., CREW CHIEF, No. 13 SEALMASTER CHEVROLET: “This place is our Achilles heal. We always run really good here and something always happens. I don’t know if it’s me and the way I call races or we just have bad luck here. I just don’t know what it is. It’s hard to even pinpoint it because we run really good and we always come out of here out of the top-10. We’re disappointed. We had a good truck this week and we’re just disappointed that we’re tore up again and lost points.” WHAT HAPPENED WITH JUSTIN LOFTON? “Our bed top blew off and NASCAR was posting us [black flagged] and our spotter was trying to get to their spotter to let us know we had to pit and obviously he didn’t get the message. He just wasn’t using his head.” ARE THERE ANY POSITIVES YOU CAN TAKE FROM RUNNING WELL TODAY? “For our set up notebook, yes. For getting points out of here for next year, no. We’ve got to get better as a team.”
